What Happened to This Baby's Head During Birth Will Make Your Jaw Hit the Floor
Nikki went into labor with her second child on Valentine's Day morning, four days after her due date. She waited a few hours before going to the hospital, but then progressed much faster than anyone expected. Within an hour of being admitted, she was already nine centimeters dilated.
By the time her birth photographer, Kayla Reeder, arrived, Nikki was getting ready to welcome her baby into the world. "Her daughter came in for a kiss before it was time to push and you could tell how much it encouraged mama," Kayla told POPSUGAR. "Little man was a bit sideways so mama had to work a little harder but no additional interventions were necessary."
Nikki pushed for about an hour before finally meeting baby Graham and had immediate skin-to-skin contact with her newborn. "The love, adoration, relief that he was finally here radiated through the family and Graham was perfect in every way. Right down to his little cone head," Kayla said.
The bones throughout a newborn's head are not only soft but also flexible with spaces between them and Penn State Hershey Medical Center explains that are many reasons why babies born vaginally don't come out with a round head like babies born via C-section or breech positioning. "When a baby is born in a head-first position, pressure on the head in the birth canal may mold the head into an oblong shape," their website states. "Fluid and blood collection in and around the scalp is common during delivery. It will most often go away in a few days."
According to Kayla, the molding of Graham's head was "extra dramatic" during delivery because of his position. "His head was tilted a bit to the side so the molding isn't centered and it caused his mama to push for a bit longer than if he would have been in a better position," she said. "Soon after birth the molding went down and by the time he was a few days old, he had a perfectly shaped head. It's no cause for alarm or concern in this case and his birth was in no way traumatic because of it."

Rome
- Don't ask for milk in your coffee past breakfast time: That's right! Locals drink cappuccinos with breakfast but they stop ordering them after 11 a.m. Go for an espresso or an Americano if you need a caffeine fix later in the day, but having milk in your coffee in the afternoon is like having a neon sign above you that says "tourist." Also, don't take your coffee to go because Italians like to take their time and enjoy their cups.
- Familiarize yourself with basic lingo: Though Italians are known to be incredibly friendly and willing to help you with directions or advice, don't assume that all Italians speak English. Study up on a few key phrases and if you really want to blend in, pronunciation is key (scusa will sound more like "scuzie"). Talking with your hands is also the native way.
- Don't tip: Your bill will usually come with a servizio, which implies that service is included. Most tourists - especially Americans - still tip but it's OK to skip it here.
- Don't hail a taxi: Don't try to get a taxi in the middle of the street like you would in New York. Head over to a taxi stand instead to request a ride.
Berlin
- When in doubt, go with a handshake: As a huge international city, Berlin doesn't have one standard greeting with so many nationalities and cultures in every corner. But you can't go wrong with a handshake when meeting someone new. Na (a typical German greeting) and wie geht's? ("how are you?") are also safe options.
- Don't jaywalk: Always remember that Berlin is a bicycle-friendly city with dedicated bike lanes. Don't stand waiting in one of these and always wait for the green light when crossing to avoid looks from locals - Berliners don't jaywalk!
- Don't order a currywurst: The local street food is delicious but don't be fooled into ordering a currywurst. You won't find locals eating them and it's kind of a culinary joke that tourists fall for.
Paris
- Know your coffee: Similar to the "rules" in Rome, there are common customs when it comes to coffee. The go to for most Parisians is un café (an espresso) without any additions. If you can't go all black, ask for a noisette, which is an espresso with a dash of milk.
- Hide the map: Parisians are very relaxed and will never stand around gawking. They simply say something is sympa, not amazing, not wonderful, just nice. Leave the map in your room and allow yourself to get lost like a true flâneur, translated to "wanderer."
- Save croissants for the weekend: While your instinct may be to grab a croissant first thing, the pastry is more of a weekend breakfast food. Instead, grab yourself a fresh baguette from the boulangerie in the morning. You'll also most likely hear "bonjour!" from somewhere inside the bakery and you should always reply even if you don't see who said it.
Barcelona
- Avoid having tapas for dinner: Tapas are typically a pre-meal snack for Spaniards, so don't order them for dinner. Try Catalan dishes like esqueixada (a delicious light salad) for a lunchtime bite to dine more like a local.
- Prepare for late dinners: Take naps in the afternoon to gear up for a late night because the locals stay up. Dinnertime is usually around 10 p.m. and some of the clubs won't even open until midnight.
- Don't eat in La Ramblas: Many locals don't even walk through La Ramblas, let alone eat there. Head into the Gothic Quarter instead for delicious restaurants and great shops. But keep in mind that the streets are too narrow to bike, so park it before entering and walk.

Due to the Royal Marriages Act 1772, the monarch has the right to veto the marriage of a member of his or her family and is required to give formal consent to any family marriages in order to guard against those that could "diminish the status of the royal house." The fact that Meghan is a divorcée - she was married to Trevor Engelson from 2011 to 2013 - has been widely speculated to hurt her chances, but it actually won't. Not only have modern royal marriage rules become more lax than in previous years, but the queen has technically dealt with that kind of drama before.

There have been a handful of royal family members who have past marriages and those who have carried on relationships with divorcées. Perhaps most famous was Elizabeth's uncle, Edward VIII, who abdicated the throne in 1936 to marry his divorced American socialite mistress Wallis Simpson, which resulted in Elizabeth's father George VI becoming king. In the '50s, the queen's sister, Princess Margaret, ended her relationship with divorced Group Captain Peter Townsend in favor of her royal status (and went on to get divorced some 30 years later). And as we all know, the queen's eldest son Prince Charles split from Princess Diana and went on to marry his mistress, Camilla Parker Bowles. It was Elizabeth who, likely fed up with doing damage control for Charles and Diana's extramarital affairs, urged the couple to divorce. In December 1995, Buckingham Palace announced that the queen had written separate letters to the couple advising them that "an early divorce is desirable" - an unprecedented move at the time. Their divorce was finalized in August 1996, but as the mother of heirs to the throne, Diana remained an official member of the royal family until her death the following year.
Prince Charles sought the approval of his mother before proposing to Camilla, and their engagement was announced in February 2005. The following month, the queen released her official letter of consent to their union, and the two were married at Windsor Guildhall in England on April 9, followed by a Church of England Service of Prayer and Dedication at St. George's Chapel. Charles is the first member of the royal family to have a civil ceremony rather than a religious wedding, and his parents were not in attendance for their town hall event. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are still quite a new couple by most relationship standards, but should they start talking marriage, she'll likely have a pretty easy time becoming a princess - because while marrying into the royal family isn't exactly a piece of cake, there are fewer hoops to jump through than most would think.

But to truly understand where narcissistic personality disorder comes from, we have to look at childhood development.
Children are most susceptible to influences on their personality because they are just developing a personality. And who are we surrounded by the most when we are kids? Our parents! Good or bad, the way our parents treat their children affects that child's personality in adulthood.
So how do people become narcissists?
Elinor Greenberg, Psychologist, Author, Lecturer, and Consultant on Narcissistic Disorders explains that certain parent-child relationships in early childhood can cause narcissistic personality disorder in adulthood. She shared three scenarios that dive deep into why someone could have the disorder and explain how they translate into adulthood.

There are three common childhood scenarios that I hear about frequently from my narcissistic clients:

Love was conditional: when you came in first in the race, won the science fair, or starred in the school show, you were showered with praise and attention. When you didn't, you were a disappointment.
Children in these families do not feel stably loved. It is hard for them to enjoy anything for its own sake, if it does not confer status. They only feel secure and worthwhile when they are successful and recognized as the "best." This sets in motion a lifelong pattern of chasing success and confusing it with happiness.
Scenario 2: Devaluing Narcissistic Parent
In this scenario there is a very domineering and devaluing parent who is always putting down the child. The parent is generally irritable, easily angered, and has unrealistically high expectations.
If there are two or more children, the parent will praise one and devalue the others. The "good one" can quickly become the "bad one" and suddenly a different sibling is elevated. Nobody in the family feels secure and everyone spends their time trying to pacify the explosive narcissistic parent.
The other parent is often treated exactly like the children and belittled as well. When he or she disagrees with the narcissistic parent, they too are devalued.
Children who grow up in these households feel humiliated and inadequate. In later life, they often try to prove to themselves, the world, and the devaluing parent that they are special and their parent was wrong.Scenario 3: "The Golden Child"

I Had Traditional Tea in London, and I Still Don't Understand If It's a Snack or a Meal
I've always been aware of traditional afternoon tea in England and other places, but until my last trip to the UK, I didn't know a whole lot about it. I took part in teatime at the Conrad St. James and not only got to try a variety of teas and treats, but I learned more about the history of British tea from the head concierge John White.
When we were given the menu for our afternoon tea, it included a selection of savouries, a selection of sandwiches, cakes and pastries, and scones. I had assumed that we would pick and choose what we'd want to go with our tea, but no, we got literally everything on the menu. All of the selections were very small, however, and all together, it provided for quite a hearty meal, which is what confused me. Our tea was at 3 p.m., which led me to believe it was going to be a snack. I had always assumed that afternoon tea in England is what we Americans consider an after-school snack to tide us over until dinnertime.
If you look back at the history of afternoon tea, like John and I did, you'll find that that is exactly how it started. John told me of a duchess in the 1800s named Anna who wanted a snack between lunch and dinner, so she asked for tea with some bread and butter and cakes. When she realized what a good idea it was, she started inviting her friends over to join her and the tradition grew from there.
But I still don't understand if it's supposed to be a snack or a meal. According to John, everyone does it differently. Depending on what region you're in and what your family likes, your tea could be just an afternoon snack or it could be what we'd consider dinner. While I love tea all day every day and need no excuse to have it, I don't know that a heavy dose of snacks with my tea at 3 p.m. is something I'll be adopting into my routine any time soon. I was actually so full from my afternoon tea that I didn't need to eat for the rest of the evening. So in that case, I guess it was really dinner tea. Maybe?
John said many families still stick with tradition and just have tea with a snack, but what we had, and what some families do, is just call their dinner "tea." He also pointed out that tea at home is definitely different from tea in a tearoom. Tea at home with the family could be more of a snack, but if you're coming to a tearoom for an experience, you're likely to get a longer, meal-like ordeal.
At the end of teatime, I was still unsure about all of it, but the tea, food, and experience were all superb. I highly recommend anyone who isn't familiar with British customs to try traditional teatime, but just keep in mind that you might end up totally stuffed in the end!

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor Just Obliterated the Bootstrap Myth
If you've been paying attention to politics lately, you've definitely heard the phrase "pull oneself up by one's bootstraps." The term is most often used to refer to the belief that any citizen in the United States, regardless of social or economic status, can get ahead in life on their own merit, without seeking help from others or the federal government. Supreme Court Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who also happens to be the first Latina justice to serve on the highest court in the land, recently shared her own thoughts about the contentious talking point for many fiscal conservatives during a chat with the Aspen Institute Latinos and Society Program.
"There's a continuing tension in America between the image of the person who pulls themselves up by the bootstraps and the person who believes that you need a lift to get up sometimes," Sotomayor said while speaking with Abigail Golden-Vazquez, the executive director of the program. "Those people who believe that everyone must pull themselves up - they don't believe that people are entitled to help."
Sotomayor expressed her belief that sometimes we all need a lift up the ladder, "no matter how tall the heel on your boot is," especially when the barriers many minorities face are just too high to get over. "Unless you do something to knock it down or help that person up, they will never have a chance," she said.
Sotomayor also opened up about being a "product of affirmative action," sharing, "I am Puerto Rican, born and raised in the South Bronx. My test scores were not comparable to my colleagues at Princeton and Yale [but] not so far off so that I wasn't able to succeed at those institutions."
"So for me, that's a constant conversation. It's not an issue about whether someone is willing to lift themselves up. There are so many barriers that we have to bring down before we can change the outcomes."

While she was undeniably "self-conscious" because of her disease, the 22-year-old woman has credited makeup for helping bring back her confidence, and she's got some serious makeup skills!
As a self-proclaimed "aspiring makeup artist," one may wonder if a feeding tube taped to the side of her face gets in the way of her glittery looks, but Emily told Allure she works around it. "I create looks around my tube by leaving a little bit of a gap around the edges so the tape doesn't come off or come loose," she said. "I try to put lots of drama on my eyes, the other side of my face or on my lips to detract from the tube. But the tube is a part of me, and I'm grateful for it as it and the nourishment it gives me when I can't keep anything down myself."
Just three years ago, she developed a love for makeup after watching tons of YouTube tutorials. Emily credits Carli Bybel and Nikkie Tutorials for not only teaching her how to get a bomb winged eye, but also for helping her believe in her own skills. And she plans to start her own YouTube channel one day!
"Makeup means everything to me it gives me the confidence to be myself without the judgment of others," she said. "Makeup takes away the self-consciousness I feel because of my NG tube and makes me feel gorgeous! [Highlighter] makes me glow and brings out confidence and happiness in me."
By sharing her love for makeup on Instagram, Emily is inspiring others to embrace their own differences and do whatever makes them happy.

How to Stay Positive When Your Job Search Stalls
Isn't it unreal how many messages that aren't the one you're waiting for can hit your inbox in one day? When you're eager for follow-up about the bevy of résumés you've circulated, it's tortuous to hear that ping that promises news . . . only to find another meaningless message.
Waiting is hard. It's humbling. Whether you're in a job that no longer suits you or you're currently unemployed, the project of job searching can make you feel lost. Your livelihood is one of your life's anchors, and while job searching is rich with exciting prospects that can yield wonderful results, it's also a difficult process over which you have limited control.
And job searches stall. No matter how diligent you are in your efforts, there are times when you have to fight the feelings that you're invisible or unwanted. You're neither. You're a hot prospect doing the tough work of a seeker. So how does one power through those difficult days? Try these tactics next time you're feeling stalled and panicky.
Double check your approach
Check and see if it's within your control to get this stalled operation moving again. Review your materials to ensure that all your I's and T's are dotted and crossed.
Job searching is process. Commit yourself to being a student of the search, and refine your approach as you learn tips and tricks along the way. Then tag in a mentor or a friend whose professional opinion your trust. A second set of eyes and a bit of support can go a long way when you feel stuck.
Recognize that this is a mind game
This project probably feels urgent, high stakes, and time sensitive. Those are heavy feelings to lug around, so unpack that baggage by calling on your support system. Recognize that you're in a transitional time and take good care of yourself, inside and out.
Recognize, too, that job searching is hard is because it's a nonlinear project. It's not like cleaning a house or mowing a lawn; not all efforts yield gleaming results. Sometimes your work just bolsters the probability of a favorable outcome: the more résumés you send out, the greater the likelihood you will hear back about a couple. Another way it doesn't follow a standard sequence is that you can be so close to nabbing a great new gig, and then go back to square one all within a phone call. Your challenge is to emotionally weather that without losing your confidence.
So don't put your heart in the fire. Recognize that all of this - the scores of résumés that you never hear back about, the stalls, the rejections - says more about the nature of job searching than it says about you. This is just how it is. It can be tough. It can feel personal. Most pros have their job-search scars, and now you do, too.
Surrender to the search's pattern
While there's a lot that you can do to take charge of your job search, like combing job listings and hitting up your network for leads, you can't make your phone ring or your inbox pop. Interestingly, though, there seems to be a feast or famine rhythm that governs it. For some reason, it seems like you can go for weeks with no nibbles and then get two juicy leads in the same week. So try and stay poised and positive while you wait. Job searches have a funny way of coming around.
In the meantime, hold your head up high and be a proud seeker. The resilience and wherewithal you amass during this transitional period is a brilliant bedrock upon which to build your next professional adventure.
