Meet the 19-Year-Old Activist Fighting Against Child Marriage

Before she was even 15 years old, Memory Banda was already a seasoned activist. When she witnessed firsthand how women in her Malawi community were subjected to sexual initiation (which typically led to impregnation and marriage), Banda felt compelled to change the traditions. It was personal for Banda: her 11-year-old sister was forced to marry the man who impregnated her during such a ritual. Around the same time, Banda encountered the Girls Empowerment Network (GEN). She says the organization empowered her further to take on the challenges that would come with fighting long-established community traditions. Banda worked with GEN on a campaign to stop child marriages, organizing storytelling gatherings for women to share their experiences as child brides.

Banda, now 19, went on to lead a successful campaign to make 21 the legal age for marriage in Malawi. Harsh penalties have also been established for people who break these new laws: men who marry underage girls must pay a significant fine in goats, chickens, and land; parents who marry off their underage daughters are now required to perform public service in their local community.

On March 28, Banda spoke at the Professional BusinessWomen of California Conference, taking the stage right before Hillary Clinton. We spoke with Banda before her talk about her experience as an activist, educator, and woman - and her wisdom is astounding.

POPSUGAR: Were you in touch with the Girls Empowerment Network before or after you realized how unjustly marriage was approached in your community?
MB: It was right before. That was the time my little sister got pregnant and was forced to go marry the person who impregnated her. That was when I had all these crazy questions in my mind, like, "What is our culture? Why are girls being affected more?" I looked at the situation with my sister and thought, "No girl has to go through this."

POPSUGAR: You started literacy classes for young women in your community. Was there a particular moment that inspired you to start those classes? Was there ever any pushback from other people in the community about these classes?
MB: I'll take you back a little bit. I imagined what my sister would become, because she wouldn't go to school [after she got married]. People thought that once you get married, that's the end of you as a young person. But I looked at it in a very different way: if a young girl goes into marriage, that doesn't have to be the end of her. And [I initiated] these literacy classes.

I also learned a lot from them. In the literacy classes, these young women who were my age - young mothers - were able to tell me what they were going through . . . the problems they were facing every day. They were going through a series of abuses from their husbands. Financially they were unstable and dependent on the man. That's when I saw how big the problem of child marriage is. I moved on to talking to my traditional leaders about some of the effects and some of the negative traditions.

All these child marriage issues, by the end of the day, you would find the biggest linkages are the cultural norms and cultural traditions in the community. You see that the girl child is not really valued in the community. What she is valued most for is "Oh, you're going to get married, your husband will support your family, your parents will get support." That's the only value seen in girls. When I saw that, I felt like I could change that focal point.

POPSUGAR: What was the conversation with traditional leaders in your community like?
MB: It was hard. It was a bunch of young girls and an organization in the community. You know how an organization can implement a project and after one or two years, it's gone? So the leaders were just like, "We'll wait it out." They were so surprised that we were still talking about this. Personally, the empowerment that I got was very huge. I did not stop because I wanted to see the changes I could make in the community.

The first time I spoke, it was very hard because I was very small. I was very scared. Later on, when people were talking about us as young girls who don't respect the tradition, it was very sad to be told that you're not respecting the tradition of the community. I looked at it in a very different way. I felt like if these people are looking at us in this way, that means we're doing something that is changing us and them as traditional leaders. That's when I felt like, "Yeah, let me go on and do this."

POPSUGAR: You saw some very successful changes directly because of your activism; there's now a legal precedent for when a woman can get married in Malawi. How would you encourage women to keep fighting through the bureaucratic red tape? Do you have any advice?
MB: Absolutely. As women and girls globally, we always have to have that mind of trying. I think that's what has been pushing me all the time. Sometimes, when I sit down and feel like I might not see any positive results from what I am doing, I think about [how] some years back I didn't even know that this was where these things would take me to.

I've always been that kind of person pushing for what I believe in. It's very important that women and the girls all over the world also have to believe in ourselves and push for what we believe in. Even if it doesn't work out, at least you can say that you tried.

"As women, we have the power of influencing. We may not realize we're influencing someone at that moment or influencing something, [but] we have that power."

POPSUGAR: Is there a specific moment or memory when you realized your own strength and power?
MB: It takes me back to the first time I stood up and spoke in front of my traditional leaders - and then when I saw the changes that were coming behind me. When we were advocating for the raise of the legal marriage age, when I saw the support that I got, I was like, "Oh! I can do this!" I think that was the point of self realization. That's when I felt like it is possible for a person to do anything to try to change something.

POPSUGAR: Can you think of an anecdote which speaks to how you have transformed how men in your community view women?
MB At first it was very hard. In my country, there are a lot of patriarchal communities. It's all over, but in Africa, it's even worse. In particular, in Malawi, it's way worse. We have been used to seeing men stand up and speak in front of people. It has always been the norm. But then to see girls standing up - it was challenging that patriarchal tradition in my community.

Men looked at us and said, "Oh, look at them, they won't go far." They were surprised to see that we were still pushing for this, and little by little, we gained their respect and their understanding. Men having been supporting us in this activism in every possible way. It's just amazing to see my fellow young people, the boys just being there and supporting us. When we were doing the amendment of the constitution, our group was actually comprised of so many young men.

POPSUGAR: What are you working on right now? What are your future plans?
MB: First and foremost, I'll continue my advocacy work for girls' rights. Apart from that, I'm looking for future personal development - because I feel like, personally, I have to develop as well. I'm looking forward to finishing school, college.

I was telling my sister that apart from me pursuing my education, I've always wanted to do law, and I feel like I still have to pursue that. When I sit back and see what I've done, it leads to policies and law. For me to go through all these social campaigns, first I had to understand what the laws said, what the acts said, what other policies linked up to all these issues around me. If I go into the field of law, it will be so much easier for me to advocate and work.

POPSUGAR: What do you think the most beautiful thing about being a woman is?
MB: That's a tricky question. I love being a woman, but I don't even know how I can respond to that. There's so many things. I love being a woman because I feel like I've always been an influencer. Most of the time, when I am around men and I pose my ideas, critics come in. By the end of the day you see that you have spoken something that has influenced them. The men think that they're the ones who posed that idea, but I'm the one who did that.

As women, we have the power of influencing. We may not realize we're influencing someone at that moment or influencing something, [but] we have that power. We have that influencing power, and with that power, we can do a lot of things. It feels like trickery, but it's not really a trick. With that power, we can influence a lot of things around us. It's the skill of being a woman.

The Life and Times of My Drag Queen Grandmother, Flawless Sabrina

Zackary Drucker is an independent artist and activist, as well as a producer on Amazon's groundbreaking TV series Transparent.

I met my grandmother, Flawless Sabrina, when I was 18. It was 2001, and I had just moved to New York City from Syracuse. I went to the West Side Piers for Wigstock, a drag festival they had back then. I couldn't afford the $20 to get in and see the performance, so I hung out near the entrance and took pictures of some of the queens who were coming in and out. As Flawless Sabrina left, I took a picture of her, and she said to me, "You're on the wrong side of the camera, kid."

I hung that picture on my wall. Later, I continued to see her around in the club scene. She was always the oldest person in the club. She's now 77 and has lived in the same apartment in New York for 50 years.

In the pre-Stonewall days, Flawless Sabrina was incarcerated around 100 times for the crime of cross-dressing, while she toured her drag contests across America from 1959 to 1969. She and her friends took that act from town to city to town, all across America from Appalachia to the Pacific Northwest. They would organize local talent to perform. In a grassroots effort coordinated by phone tree, advance people would go to the next city or town to hang out in the coffee shops, find out who the gossip queens were, and who could spread the word that the drag contest was coming to town. It was an underground network.

Those are the people that I look to in times like this: our elders who survived intolerably hostile environments and times. Many of the people I revere and look up to have been able to see around the corner. It seems trans folks have a long history of being seers in their communities.

Throughout history, we have been persecuted. Globally, we are persecuted. Nationally, we're persecuted. The stakes are always changing. And the stakes I have, as an American-born white trans woman, are very different from the stakes of my trans sisters who are undocumented and from Central America. The stakes are different for all of us, so it's essential that we look out for the more vulnerable members of our community. Pride this year is more important than it has ever been in my lifetime.

We need to tap into the spirit of resilience.
Flawless Sabrina would tell me stories about the way the queens used to treat each other or trans women. Sex workers in Central Park were throwing acid in each other's faces, or super-gluing bits of razor blades under their fingernails, so they could claw each other. We're a group of people who have not always had a good sense of community or sisterhood, a people who've been devoured by internalized shame.

We can't afford to attack each other any longer. It's divisive and cruel to single people out because their politics are different from ours. We're all fighting for the same things, respect and equality.

We need to tap into the spirit of resilience that Flawless has shown. We need to nourish the sense of pride that catapulted the first brick at the Stonewall riots. We need to listen to our inner voices saying: "I'm worth more than this, and I'm willing to speak out and fight for it!"

The 1 Thing This Fashion Editor Does to Every Pair of Jeans After She Buys Them

I have no background in fashion design and I certainly wouldn't consider myself crafty. But every time I buy a new pair of jeans I pull out my scissors and get to work. They're not even fabric shears, they just have blades sharp enough to get the job done. The job in question? Cutting three to five inches off the bottoms of my pants - all of them.

At 5'1", I'm definitely lacking in the height department. And even "cropped" denim hits me at an awkward length, like right below the ankle, instead of above. Since I like to show off my shoes from time to time and the distressed look is in, I've come up with a method for simply snipping away at all of my jeans.

But you don't have to be petite to get in on my hobby. In fact, with all the ragged cuts and rips featured on some of the trendiest styles these days, slicing even half an inch off your hem might just up the cool factor. This is also a great solution for updating old denim stowed away at the back of your closet. And the best news is, you don't have to be artistically talented to do it. Once you cut one pair, I promise you can cut them all. Just read on for my DIY instructions. Oh, and don't run with scissors.

Step One

Try on your jeans in front of the mirror and mark the point you want to crop them to. Pay attention to the fit of the leg. If it's flared, you might want to go lower, so the triangle shape of the pant is still visible. If it's straight, you pretty much have free rein to cut where you like.

Step Two

Lay the jeans on a flat surface (preferably a hard floor) and make sure to flatten out the wrinkles and the pockets. Once everything is straight, cut across the line you marked for yourself.

Step Three

Rather than eye-balling the second pant leg, take the excess material you just cut off and line it along the bottom of the other pant. This ensures that your two legs will match up exactly, but once you distress your hem, perfection won't matter much.

Step Four

Now that your jeans have been slashed, loosen up the strings of the material by rubbing them against the jeans, shredding with your fingers, or treating with a razor. If you want to wear them right away, that's cool, but trust me that they'll look much better once . . .

Step Five

You wash them. Throw them in the laundry once and your jeans will come out looking like you just bought them off the rack. The hem will be noticeably stressed, but in the best possible way - and that's because you treated them yourself.

Huda Kattan Freaks Out While Charlotte Tilbury Does Her Makeup, and It's Adorable

From the way beauty blogger Huda Kattan and makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury uncontrollably giggle in this video, you'd think they've been having sleepovers their entire lives. In reality, this is the first time Charlotte's done Huda's makeup, and the two women's incredible passion for makeup inspires us throughout the must-watch video.

Charlotte starts out by treating Huda's skin to the Magic Cream ($100) and Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask ($22) explaining that it's hydrating and reusable. The makeup artist explains that she's huge proponent of prepping the skin, "if your skin looks amazing . . . the makeup will sit much more beautiful[ly]."

After highlighting and bronzing Huda's skin, Charlotte applies a smoky rust shade to Huda's eyelids. By using a windshield wiper motion in Huda's crease, Charlotte creates a beautiful warm smoky eye. When applying mascara, Charlotte recommends holding the brush vertically to define every lash.

Huda's Middle Eastern fans will be excited to learn that Charlotte Tilbury's makeup line is arriving soon. Starting in September, Kuwaiti beauty-lovers will be able to shop Charlotte's line, and it will be sold in Dubai starting in January 2018.

Wait! There Will Be "at Least" TWO Weddings on the Pretty Little Liars Series Finale

The series finale of Pretty Little Liars is hurtling toward us, and as we wait for answers and worry about who might die and who A.D. is, one thing we do know is that someone is getting married - but now we know that more than one (and maybe more than that!) couple will be getting married. Back in September, series creator I. Marlene King gave away the wedding tidbit herself on Twitter, so we knew one wedding was happening, but this week at ATX, she revealed that there will actually be multiple weddings.

In the show's panel at ATX, King was asked what she could reveal about the finale that she hadn't yet, and she confirmed that "I can promise you there will be two more weddings on the show" over the course of the final three episodes. But there could be even more than that! I chatted with King in an interview with several other reporters on the same day, where she also talked about multiple weddings, and she phrased it this way: "There are two weddings at least, at least, this season."

Hear that? At least two. And the title is, fittingly, "Til Death Do Us Part." So who will tie the knot? Of course, Aria and Ezra have been planning their wedding, so they're one, while Hanna and Caleb just got engaged, so they're probably two, but who else? It could be Emily and Alison, and maybe Spencer is also getting her happy ending, because it seems like we're being set up to get an actually tidy ending.

We'll find out when the series finale airs on June 27.

7 Signs You Need Couples Counseling

Sometimes it's as clear as day - the two of you need couples counseling. And other times? Well, it's a little foggy. The reality is if the two of you are not committed to being completely open to listening to the counselor's suggestions and your partner's words and complaints . . . it's not going to help your partnership, at all.

If you've been wondering if the two of you need couples counseling or, perhaps, you think maybe you're just overreacting, read this and see if these signs are familiar in your current relationship or not.

1. You Keep Considering Counseling

If you personally - or your partner - keep mentioning couples counseling, listen to each other. If either of you is truly compelled or constantly bringing up the topic, there's a reason. Happy couples don't talk about counseling ad nauseam. In fact, they never bring it up.

Listen to your gut, because one or both of you is already verbalizing the need. Just go for it!

2. There's a Shutdown on Intimacy

If you notice a dramatic decrease in sex, conversation, and cuddling, and there's no real legitimate reason like perhaps illness, a job loss, or a major family situation, you need to ask why.

This is a reason to go to counseling together, because if the intimacy continues to deteriorate, the relationship will fail or one or both of you may engage in an affair.

3. One or Both of You Insults the Other

This is just not acceptable. I used to think it was sort of normal. I learned it is not, thank god, but still . . .

This is if either one of you or both of you resorts to insulting each other during arguing, and by insulting, I mean incredibly harsh words that can't be taken back. If the two of you are constantly finding reasons to pick at each other, you both need to be in counseling ASAP. It's just not healthy. Plain and simple.

4. You Discover or Admit an Affair

If either you admit to an affair or are discovered cheating, you guys need to run, not walk, to counseling.

The discovery of an affair does not always mean the end to a relationship, but without uncovering the issues within the cheater and within the relationship and other partner, the relationship will not repair. If you're OK with that, fine, but if you're not, make the move.

5. You Can't Understand the Other

Is this the two of you? When you speak, argue, or disagree, neither of you can really grasp what the other is saying.

If you answered yes, go to counseling. It may be that resentment, communication styles, or other issues are keeping you two from being able to process what the other person needs or is feeling. Counseling can help you two get back on the same page again.

6. One of You Is Struggling With Mental Health or Substance Issues

Obviously, whoever is struggling with the issue should be in a program or therapy, but then in that case, your partner should probably attend counseling both alone and with you.

In order to heal after substance use or help a relationship when one party struggles with depression, anxiety, bipolarity, or what have you, counseling can really help you two support each other. Even if you are the healthy party in the relationship, your partner's issues can have an effect on you.

7. One or Both of You Feels Far From the Other

Life happens. Work. Illness. Hobbies. Kids. Sometimes even if we have a great partner, we can drift from each other. Couples counseling can help the two of you reconnect and make a plan to keep from "letting the boat drift" again.

Good relationships are worth the work, and a good relationship doesn't require heavy labor, usually - just constant fine-tuning. Sometimes, though, the best of people and partnerships hit big road blocks and we need help. This is OK. Be humble. Be mindful of how important your relationship is and seek counseling.

Every Parent Needs to See What a Tick Bite Did to This Toddler ASAP

Kenley Ratliff would've turned 3 years old this month, but instead, her family is reeling from her unexpected death. As they cope with their loss, they are warning other parents about the disease that doctors believe killed their little girl because the symptoms weren't caught soon enough: Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

Kenley died eight days after she first spiked a fever, and as her family waits for confirmation that this tick-borne disease is the cause of her death, they are speaking out. "If we could save one child's life then we will have done our job," Jordan Clapp, Kenley's aunt, told Today. "Kayla [Kenley's mom] is so devastated. Spreading awareness is therapeutic."

The nightmare began when Kenley developed a 103.8 fever. Her mom rushed her to the emergency room, and doctors concluded that she had a virus or bacterial infection. They sent her home with a prescription for antibiotics and told Kayla to make sure that she rested and stayed hydrated.

Kenley's fever continued to rise the next day, so they returned to the hospital. This time, Kenley tested positive for strep throat, so they sent her back home with the same treatment. But three days later, she still had a 104-degree fever. "Now we were on the panicky side," Jordan said. "Some time had passed because doctors told Kayla to wait and let the antibiotics work."

The child's parents decided to take her to a different hospital, and her body "went completely limp" on the way there. "Her eyes closed and my sister had to hold her head up," Jordan said.

Doctors at the University of Indiana's Riley Children's Hospital switched her antibiotics, but she still didn't show signs of improvement. Then a rash began to spread across her arms and legs. The red spotting, which is a trademark symptom of Rocky Mountain spotted fever, made doctors realize that they had been treating the wrong diagnosis.

The toddler developed other signs of this deadly tick-borne disease by the time doctors changed her medicine. Unfortunately, it wasn't soon enough to save Kenley's life. Her organs started to fail and her brain swelled, leaving her family reeling from what they wish they had known about this disease.

"After the first two hospital visits we thought it was strep," Jordan said. However, it now makes sense that a tick could be the culprit. "She was always outside. Just recently she had gone camping."

When children are infected with Rocky Mountain spotted fever, the symptoms can be ambiguous, like in Kenley's case, making it even more important for parents to be aware of this tick-borne illness. "It is a disease that can present with very non-specific signs and symptoms," Paige Armstrong, a medical epidemiologist, told Today. "In the early stages there can be high fever, headache and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea. The rash tends not to develop until days two or four in children and rashes can be quite common with viruses."

Andrew Nowalk, an infectious-disease specialist, explained that the symptoms "may not ring a bell in the early stages" because they are so similar to other illnesses. "Delayed diagnosis is one of the big challenges with this disease," he said.

Children younger than 10 years old are at a greater risk, and Paige warned that late diagnoses "significantly increase the risk of fatality." According to the CDC, these are the symptoms of Rocky Mountain spotted fever that parents should know:

  • Fever
  • Rash (occurs two to five days after fever, may be absent in some cases)
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain (may mimic appendicitis or other causes of acute abdominal pain)
  • Muscle pain
  • Lack of appetite
  • Conjunctival injection (red eyes)

Hold Up, Who Is Frieda Berlin on Orange Is the New Black?

Few things sum up the Orange Is the New Black character Frieda Berlin better than one of her quotes from season four: "Why dig one six-foot hole when you can dig six one-foot holes? That's just murder math!" Frieda, played by actress Dale Soules, is a callous, no-nonsense old gal who boasts neck tattoos and a brittle sense of humor. The last two seasons really highlight how bloodthirsty she actually is, while allowing the occasional glimpse of a vulnerability she might possess deep down. So, who is Frieda Berlin? Here are some things we've learned.

She's doing time for having cut off her husband's penis.

With pride, Frieda explains to Gonzales how she ended up in prison: She removed her husband's penis, using a butcher knife . . . that wasn't even sharp. "I still dream about it," she says. "All the blood. The way it flopped around in my fist. Best thing I ever did."

She's a member of the Golden Girls.

Frieda hangs out with the other older ladies at Litchfield in a clique referred to as the Golden Girls. Yet Frieda views old age as an asset in prison; if everyone thinks they're feeble, they're constantly underestimated and ignored, so they can get away with anything. Of course, the word "Golden" refers only to their time of life. There is nothing sunny about Frieda Berlin.

She knows a lot about murder . . . a LOT, a lot.

To Alex's dismay, Frieda discovers the body of the murdered guard, but it turns out that Frieda is the best possible person to have on hand in exactly this situation. Although she won't answer Alex's inquiry about whether she'd ever killed a person ("That's personal"), she sure knows a lot about dismembering a body and strategically planting the remains.

Really, she is most likely an actual murderer.

Frieda claims to have killed a cop with his own gun, and her answer to most conflicts with other inmates is to kill them or at least threaten them a little. On a few occasions, Frieda suggests murdering Lolly to silence her incriminating rants, and Red clearly believes Frieda would do it.

She is no-nonsense but loyal.

Frieda doesn't suffer fools but when she identifies an ally; she sticks with them. In season two, she lands firmly on the side of Team Red and never looks back, loyally fighting Red's battles and proving to be a helpful comrade.

There's a tiny bit of soft tenderness somewhere deep down within Frieda.

When Lolly panics and tries to dig up the body parts buried in the garden, Frieda calmly diffuses the situation by claiming she already moved the body parts to another location. Despite her blustery detachment, Frieda has a sensitive intuition about people, and perhaps it's because - as she roars at Baxter Bayley when he hits her with an egg - she is a human being.

***Warning: if you haven't watched season five yet, stop reading now!***

She's a literal survivalist.

In the second episode of season five, Frieda gets her own backstory. She grows up with a single dad after her mother dies, and he raises her to be a survivalist (he's a crazy Communism conspiracy theorist). They go camping one night, and when she wakes up in the woods the next morning, she realizes her dad has left her all alone in the middle of the woods with only a needle, a metal pot, and a small knife. We get an idea of the depth of her survival skills when she fills the pot with water, places a leaf on top of the surface, and rests the needle on it, which works as an impromptu compass. She manages to find her way home a few hours later (after an incredibly gross run-in with some leeches, that is).

She builds a secret compound under the prison.

It turns out Frieda has been hoarding food, water, furniture, and other essentials throughout her stay at Litchfield. Using her survival skills, she secretly takes over some connected, abandoned rooms in the basement of the prison and turns them into her private hideaway. Talk about being resourceful.

Recall Alert! Frozen Tuna Tested Positive For Hepatitis A

On June 1, the Food and Drug Administration released a statement about its ongoing investigation into potentially contaminated frozen tuna distributed by Hilo Fish. According to the report, the Hawaii Department of Health first discovered the contagious hepatitis A virus in samples of frozen tuna on May 1. Shortly after, on May 18, Hilo Fish Company launched an official recall of tuna from Sustainable Seafood Company and Santa Cruz Seafood, Inc.

So far, there haven't been any illnesses reported in conjunction with the potential frozen tuna contamination, but the Center for Disease Control (CDC) is advising anyone from Texas, Oklahoma, and California who hasn't been vaccinated for the hepatitis A virus and ate raw or under-cooked tuna products in the past two weeks to get treated with post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).

Keep reading to see a list of all of the frozen tuna products that have been recalled so far, and make sure to toss out anything that may be affected!

  • Frozen Yellowfin tuna steaks from Sustainable Seafood Company
  • Yellowfin tuna cubes from Santa Cruz Seafood
  • 8 ounce Tuna Steaks from Hilo Fish Company with an expiration date of Oct. 1, 2018
  • 15 pound Frozen Yellowfin tuna cubes with an expiration date of April 4, 2019

For extra precaution, the FDA has also provided a list of restaurants and other retail establishments that received the recalled frozen tuna. Better safe than sorry!

I Tried the Viral Farsáli Unicorn Essence, and I'm Never Looking Back

Scroll through your Insta feed and you're bound to come across a beauty guru wielding the dropper tool of Farsáli's cult-status, much-hyped-about Unicorn Essence ($54), formerly known as Unicorn Tears. The moisturizer-meets-makeup primer is typically applied under the eyes in a sweeping motion to create the effect of shimmering pink tears, and beauty queens swear that it creates a flawless, unparalleled finish.

Intrigued, I had to try it out myself. First, though, a quick bit of history on the brand. Farsáli was launched in 2014 by a man named Sal Ali. His mission was to create products for his wife, Farah, who felt like something was missing in her beauty and skincare regimen.

If you noticed that the name Farsáli is a fusion of the couple's names, you get a gold star. And also, can we take a second to double high-five this proactive, take-charge man?

Anyway, after working with a group of cosmetic scientists, Farsáli's Volcanic Elixir ($37), a luxe nighttime moisturizer, was bestowed upon the world, followed by its Rose Gold Elixir ($54) - which contains 24-karat gold, by the way. With that, the brand was catapulted to fame.

Next came the product we're talking about today, Unicorn Tears, which launched at Farsali.com as a special-edition product and sold out immediately. In February 2017, Sephora.com picked up it as Unicorn Essence and it sold out within 24 hours. The brand smartly decided to keep it around for good, and the beauty community hasn't quieted its rejoicing yet!

30 Tiny, Chic Wrist Tattoos That Are Better Than a Bracelet

If you truly want to wear your heart on your sleeve, then the wrist should be the canvas for your next tattoo. A flat plane fairly easy to tattoo, the wrist is popular for first-timers and small designs or sayings. While the wrist is generally a more visible tattoo spot than, say, the ribs or back, this placement allows for easy coverage with foundations or bracelets - making it an ideal choice for those who might be slightly tentative to get inked in a more prominent location. Conversely, we're also partial to the wrist because of its visibility: the conspicuousness of this spot is perfect for tattoos meant to serve as a source of inspiration, support, or reminder.

But don't just take our word for it - check out these gorgeous pieces of wrist ink to get some serious tattoo inspiration.

The Internet Is Freaking Out Over These $15,000 Vintage Apple Sneakers

People these days are already pretty obsessed with sneakers as it is. But when those comfy shoes just so happen to be a super-duper rare pair that pays homage to our favorite tech company, a full-on internet frenzy ensues. That's exactly what happened when people caught wind of a singular pair of Apple (yes, Apple) kicks that are currently being auctioned off. The opening bid is sure to make your jaw hit the floor: a whopping $15,000. Who needs groceries or college tuition when you've got some one-of-a-kind sneakers on your feet, am I right? (Hah, totally kidding.)

According to the official listing for the shoes, they're a size 9.5 and were "produced by Apple exclusively for their employees in the early 1990s." To be honest, they kind of look like something the Fresh Prince of Bel Air would've worn back in the day, but we're oddly into them. With the rainbow company logo on the side panel and tongue, they have an undeniable throwback vibe to them, somewhat reminding us of those old-school Nike Air Force 1s that are starting to come back on the scene.

Once news of these cool kicks reached social media, people were quick to offer up their candid reactions to them.

Some wanted to know if there was a reason for the excessively high price tag.

Others were beyond into them.

And one person made a pretty clever guess as to who will make the first bid.

We Need Lauren Jauregui and Halsey to Form a Badass Girl Group ASAP

For the first time ever, Lauren Jauregui and Halsey performed their impassioned collaboration live on the Today show. Halsey had been scheduled to appear on the daytime show to perform new singles from her album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom. What fans might not have been expecting, however, was a surprise appearance from the beloved Fifth Harmony member.

Wearing contrasting monochromatic outfits, the talented singers performed "Strangers." While the performance was full of notable moments - including the shrieks emerging from the crowd as Lauren took the stage - our favorite might be the breakdown that happens around the 2:30 mark.

Coincidentally, former Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello recently revealed that she was almost featured as the guest vocalist on The Chainsmokers' "Closer" - which Halsey ended up singing instead! Meanwhile, Fifth Harmony just released their first single and music video, titled "Down," since Camila's departure.

Orange Is the New Black: Here's What You Should Know About Season 6

"Orange Is the New Black's fifth season just premiered, and you're already talking about season six?!" you might be wondering to yourself. And yes, we realize it's a little early to already be speculating about a sixth season, but then again, Netflix has already renewed the prison dramedy for two more seasons. That means it's not really about if we'll be seeing our favorite inmates in the future, but when. Let's take a minute to break down what we know so far, shall we?

The Premiere Date

The exact date is still TBD, but Orange Is the New Black has kept a pretty rigorous premiere schedule since season one hit the streaming network back in July 2013. A new season arrives like clockwork each Summer, always within the first two weeks of June. For instance, season five just premiered on June 9, while season four's premiere was on June 17. That means we'll likely get season six in June 2018 and season seven the year afterward.

The Cast

Season six will likely introduce us to a few new faces, because even if no new inmates are brought in, there are always unfamiliar actors in the flashback scenes. It's also safe to bet that the new episodes will offer some lesser-known characters their chance to shine, the way season five does with Freida and Brandy (Asia Kate Dillon). Another suspicion we have is that season six will be the last we see of Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling). She's supposed to be getting out of prison pretty soon (her sentence was for 15 months for her pretty minor role in Alex Vause's drug cartel), which is probably one of the reasons season five takes place over the course of only three days - to pad the timeline. Unless she does something to lengthen her sentence, it'll be hard to justify keeping her in prison until season seven rolls around.

The Story

In Netflix's statement about the renewal news back in 2016, series creator and executive producer Jenji Kohan hinted that the show's tried-and-true storytelling structure - a present-day timeline in (and sometimes out of) Litchfield Penitentiary mixed with revealing, preprison flashbacks for each character over the course of a few months - was going to be switched up. "Three more years! Not quite a political term, but still plenty of time to do some interesting things. In some cultures, 'May you lead an interesting life,' is a curse, but I don't live in those cultures," she said. "Here's to keeping it interesting."

Season five is already proof of that vision. The season covers only three days, detailing every aspect of the prison riot that began in the season four finale. We have a feeling Kohan will keep experimenting with that freedom in season six, especially since the show is already renewed and she doesn't have to worry about getting canceled over creative differences.

The Obvious Reason 1 Dad Requests You "F*cking Read" Everything Your Partner Posts on Facebook

Whenever I'm scrolling my Facebook feed and I see an article, a post, or even a silly meme that gives me one of those "that's exactly what I've been saying!" feelings, I do one of two things: I'll either save it (at which point it goes to a place where I never look at it ever again) or I tag someone in it. And usually that person is my coparent, my husband.

Call it passive-aggressive, but most of the posts I share are surely eye-roll-inducing. They're often links to some study that says "dads who help with grocery lists have a greater chance of having genius babies" or a funny (to me, at least) cartoon about the differences between male and female sleep patterns when there's a crying baby in the room. (Hint: the punchline is how men never hear a thing. Hilarious, right?)

I've always been pretty certain my husband hated this habit of mine, and it was all but confirmed when Brad Kearns, the dad blogger behind DaDMuM, wrote about that very thing in a Facebook post of his own that's gone viral.

"Every day she tags me in stuff on Facebook," the father of two wrote. "Every day. Like several times a day. As if she bounces around the internet just looking for random sh*t to let me know is out there. I used to find it annoying. I didn't really know why half of it was relevant."

At first, much like my husband, these tags would go ignored - sometimes read but rarely addressed or discussed. He wrote:

But over time I've learned that she tags me in sh*t because it's either funny, insightful, or relevant to us and our relationship. Sometimes it helps her tell me something because it's so relevant and she couldn't have said it better herself. I try to make a point of acknowledging it. It doesn't take any effort at all.

To be honest, it helps me gauge where she's at and what she's looking at online. Sometimes it forms the basis of our conversations when I get home. So often I come home to a "Did you see that thing I tagged you in?" As silly as it sounds it helps us communicate.

Meanwhile, Brad noticed that when his male counterparts were tagged, they'd respond with an "ain't reading that" or "too long" and nothing more.

"The conversation goes no further," he wrote. "Whatever message she was trying to send him was rejected because of sheer arrogance and inability to take a few f*cking seconds to read something that was probably important to how she was feeling."

Sure, it might be a bit much to expect a meaningful conversation in which both partners share their unique perspectives, but in the busy lives of parents, these tags are often quick forms of communicating important topics to one another. My husband quickly learned that, even though he wasn't much for Facebook, he'd make a point to check.

For those who haven't gotten the message, Brad has some advice:

Read the post. Just f*cking read it. If she tagged you in it, she wants you to look at it. If you were at the park and she said, "Hey look at that," would you ignore it? Would you make a snide remark about how much effort it will take you to see it? I think not.

Now, feel free to tag your coparent.

Skull Succulent Planters Are the Gothy Home Decoration of Your Darkest Dreams

News flash: it doesn't have to be October to decorate your home with skulls. Though typically associated with kitschy, cobweb-covered Halloween decor, skulls are way more versatile and chic than you may think, one of our favorite options being planters that take the shape of the skeletal remain. They add a mysterious, slightly dark vibe to any room without being too dreary or creepy. Plus, they totally speak to our cold, cold souls. If you're itching to add a gothic-chic touch to your shelves, bedside table, or desk, read on for the coolest skeleton planters on the market.

Miranda Kerr on Her Heartbreak-Healing Essential Oil: It's Like "a Big Warm Hug"

Before you call "bullsh*t," hear Miranda Kerr out. According the the mega model and beauty brand owner of Kora Organics, an essential oil may help to heal a broken heart. Kerr recently launched Kora Organics Heart Chakra Aromatherpy Oil ($48), which allows you to use the power of scent to uplift your mood. The website claims it will, "invoke, nurture, and empower the energies of your Heart Chakra."

Kerr explained the inspiration behind this launch to Elle.com. "A few years ago, I was in a really rough place," she said. "My heart was really wounded. This strong wave depression really hit me all of a sudden, and I didn't know what to do. I finally asked my aromatherapist if she could help. And that's how this all started."

Then, she went on to clarify what a "heart chakra" is and how a scented oil can help it.

"It's the closest thing I can describe to feeling a big warm hug."

"Your heart chakra is the fourth chakra," Kerr noted. "It's literally right over your heart. And our chakras can open and close, and when your heart chakra is closed, you're feeling less energy, more stress, like everything is overwhelming and your whole body just wants to shut down. . . . So we created this super-charged wellness essence that really helps nurture your heart and empower your energies. We put in sandalwood, ylang ylang, cedar wood, and we combine them together and filter them through a rose quartz crystal to charge them."

It may sound a bit hokey, but many swear by this method. I once got a massage in Prague based around relaxing chakras, and I was shocked at how well it worked.

Here's how Kerr advises to apply it. "The first thing you do is smell the heart chakra oil. When you smell it, you'll feel it. It's such a sensory experience that's really uplifting and energizing . . . to be honest, I use it as an alternative to perfume because it smells so yummy. It's the closest thing I can describe to feeling a big warm hug."

Finally, it's a give-and-take method. Stay with us: by using this magical oil, you may help others around you, too. "If your heart chakra is open and activated, you're more willing to give and receive love," Kerr explained. "So then you can activate other people's hearts and make them give and receive love, too!"

This Ballerina's Romantic Farm Engagement Shoot Is on Pointe

Tiffany and Shane honored their engagement with a romantic photo session at Wild Oak Iris Farm in Redlands, CA. Their photographer was able to capture some stunning shots of the couple during a golden afternoon. Tiffany, a dancer, put on her pointe shoes for a few photos, making the scene look even more magical.

You can easily tell how smitten these two are with each other. "Their love can be seen by all!" said their photographer. "It's the way he looks at her and the way she smiles at him. It's the pure friendship and genuine tenderness that can be witnessed by strangers."

See their beautiful photos!
