There's a Star Wars Bar in LA, and Yes, You Definitely Want to Go There
If you ever wanted to escape to a galaxy far, far away and sip drinks at Mos Eisley Cantina, now's your chance. Scum and Villainy Cantina is a Los Angeles pop-up bar inspired by the classic Star Wars joint, and while some themed bars don't always live up to the hype, it looks like this one truly goes above and beyond. Fans have been flocking to the bar dressed in their best paraphernalia, from full-on Greedos and Han Solos (shooting first, of course) to Princess Leias donning her infamous bikini look.
According to the site, the Scum and Villainy Cantina is "nestled in the black hole of Hollywood, CA." It's a temporary pop-up experience that promises to transport you into an "immersive environment where you drink, eat, and hang out as if you were in another galaxy." Costumes are encouraged, and based on the photos of the bar, fans have truly risen to the occasion.
The bar requires reservations and is only open until the end of June, but they do offer walk-ins - you just need to check their Facebook daily to see if you can get squeezed in. Here's hoping more bars like this one pop up nearby soon, perhaps in celebration of The Last Jedi's release in December? Check out the photos ahead.
19 Breezy Outfits For When the Weather Is Just Too Hot to Handle
When the temperature outside has reached the high 90s, all you want to do is change into a swimsuit and head to the beach. Unfortunately, we can't always get our way which means we end up spending hours rifling through our closets trying to find an outfit that will help make the heat feel a teensy bit more bearable.
Rather than changing into the usual combination of cut-offs and a cotton tee, why not try something a little different this season? Ahead, we've turned to your favorite bloggers to gather some much-needed outfit inspiration to combat the Summer's sweltering heat. Scroll on to see their looks and shop similar pieces too.

5 Reasons Trader Joe's Chips Are Superior to All Other Chips
I try hundreds of new snacks every year, but have failed to mention the exalted of all potato chips: good ol' TJ's. While I don't want to call out other chip brands directly . . . let's just say, there's no reason to buy greasy, flat chip crumbs other than to get a hefty dose of addictive MSG and sugar. After trying just about every potato chip that Trader Joe's offers, I'm convinced it's the best chip brand on the market. Here's why:
- The MASSIVE chip size. You'll wonder why you ever settled for small shards when you bust open a bag of TJ's chips and discover that each one is about the size of a potato. Whether ridged, as pictured or traditionally cut, Trader Joe's chips come in one size: russet potato length.
- The sturdiest on the market. The chips are thicker than anything we've seen - like 1/8-inch. This makes for quite possibly the most satisfying crunchy snack, plus TJ's chips do not crack under pressure when dipped.
- The cost per bag. The chips are cheap. $3 for a giant bag stuffed to the gills. You aren't paying for air, folks, like you do with some competitor brands.
- The honest ingredients. There's no weird, unpronounceable list of "ingredients." Potatoes, sunflower oil, and sea salt are the only items listed in these preservative-free chips. You're paying for "handcrafted" potatoes fried and seasoned in "small batches." Thank you TJ's for making me feel a little less bad about eating the whole bag. At least, it wasn't a whole bag of chemicals.
- Every damn flavor is good. I have yet to meet a TJ's potato chip I didn't like, I mean LOVE, even the weird flavors like honey butter and spicy dill pickle.
What's your all-time favorite Trader Joe's potato chip? Let me know so I can proceed to follow up this story with the definitive ranking of the best potato chips at TJ's.

Arby's New Ghirardelli Chocolate Shake Isn't a Unicorn - It's a Liger
It's no secret that 2017 is the year of naming fancy drinks after mythical creatures like unicorns and mermaids, but Arby's has a different idea in mind. The fast food chain has released a striped milkshake called the Liger Shake, named for its orange base and chocolate stripes. The new, limited-edition menu item is a cross between Arby's Ultimate Chocolate Shake (made with Ghirardelli chocolate) and the Orange Cream Shake, and the colorful dessert is topped with whipped cream. Commenting on the ever-present unicorn trend in a press release, Arby's stated, "Well, Arby's loves unusual creatures too - but not the imaginary or docile kind. No, Arby's loves real, powerful creatures, which is why the restaurant is proud to announce the introduction of its latest shake: The Liger."
Throwing shade at Starbucks, perhaps? While we're not sure about that, we are sure that the shake sounds incredibly refreshing and satisfying; orange and chocolate is a winning flavor combination. If you're mesmerized by ligers in general and this unique shake is calling your name, you have until the end of June to try it out.

Gisele Bündchen Wore the Power Outfit Angelina Jolie's Been Rocking For Ages
We doubt Gisele Bündchen combs through archives of street style inspiration before she gets dressed. But if she had, she'd find that the white suit she wore to the David Lynch Foundation's Women of Vision Awards (where she gave a speech) can be traced back to 2001.
It was then that Angelina Jolie popularized the power woman outfit, attending the Oscars in crisp white Dolce & Gabbana separates. Years later, this ensemble still remains a go-to for Angelina, whether she's on a red carpet or walking down the street.
Seeing as that Gisele is a world-renowned supermodel armed with a résumé comparable to Angelina's list of film accomplishments, we were delighted to see Gisele's spin on the look, which involved a long tie-neck blouse, hoop earrings, and a gold box clutch. Scroll to see the iconic suit on two very iconic women, then shop some pieces that are up to par.
These Dazzling Glitter Lips Are Basically Instagram Sorcery!
ICYMI: Glitter is a thing right now - and we're still totally into it. While scrolling on my Instagram explore page I came across a gorgeous girl rocking blingy lips. My first thought was "Instagram sorcery!" but after a little digging, I found Stay Golden Cosmetics, the indie brand responsible for the dazzling pouts popping up on my feed.
According to the website, these lippies are kiss-proof, transfer-proof, and even swim-proof - which means they're perfect for a night out or casually slaying at the grocery store. Each kit contains a glitter shade, an applicator and gloss bond. For best results, apply the gloss bond to dry lips and then pat on the glitter shade.
There are eight sparkly shades to choose from so you can be whatever color rainbow princess you want. These include: Regal (purple with purple and red reflects), Burlesque (red with silver reflects), Plum Yum (deep pink with silver reflects), Peachy (coral with silver reflects), Stay Golden (gold with red and green reflects), Glitz (pink with silver reflects), Galactica (deep blue-black with rainbow reflects) and It's Cocoa (brown with green and red reflects).
Grab them at staygoldencosmetics.com for $20 each (currently on sale for $18!). And keep reading to see them in dazzling action.
3 Teens Invented a Smart Straw That Detects Date Rape Drugs
Date rape drugs are about to become a thing of the past if these three Florida teens have things their way. "Being young women, I feel like this is a problem that we hear about a lot," Carolina Baigorri told Inside Edition. Baigorri is one of the three students who helped invent a smart straw that detects two commonly used date rape drugs. "Statistics say it's one in every five women [who experience rape], which is so many people," she added.
Baigorri, along with her classmates Susana Cappello and Victoria Roca, came up with a straw that turns blue when dipped inside of a drink that contains GHB or ketamine, two date rape drugs that are difficult to notice because of their undetectable smell and taste. Their potentially lifesaving invention, which would be the first of its kind to go into production, earned them a first place prize in a business plan competition held by the Miami Herald.
"My friends and I knew we needed to come up with a simple solution to test for drugs. I remember my dad always says 'the best ideas are the ideas that help people,' so we just thought of a simple, easy, inexpensive solution: Smart Straws," Cappello reportedly told A Plus news site.
As for their future plans, the teens have already requested a patent for their design, with the hopes of producing an even smarter straw that could detect more commonly used date rape drugs. Crowdfunding for the launch of their product is expected to begin in the near future and will be targeted at "bars, college organizations, and students." Kudos to these three badass teens!

12 Things You Never Knew About Orange Is the New Black
We're just weeks away from June 9, when the much-anticipated fifth season of Orange Is the New Black magically appears on Netflix, and we couldn't be more excited for the new episodes to drop. You still have tons of time to catch up on where your favorite characters leave off (or, if you'd rather, read exactly how things go down in the finale), but while we can only speculate at this point on what's to come, there are a few things we know for sure about one of the most loved Netflix series of all time. So, to hold you over until the new season: here are 12 things you never knew about OITNB.
- Jodie Foster has directed two episodes of the series. The legendary actress directed the third episode of season one (where Crazy Eyes falls for Piper) and the first episode of season two (when Piper is moved from Litchfield.)
- Katie Holmes almost played the role of Piper Chapman. But she was too busy. Creator Jenji Kohan said at the time that Holmes "had other things to do." But to be fair, she also added that "in the beginning, no one knew what this was." Oh, and Laura Prepon was almost Piper too.
- The actress who plays Yoga Jones is the voice of Patti Mayonnaise. If you close your eyes, you can almost pretend that she's the legendary love interest in the classic cartoon Doug.
- In the episode where Piper first meets Larry, he's watching Weeds - another show created by Jenji Kohan - and you can see it on the TV in the background. Seriously, go back and look for it. It's there.
- The real-life Larry actually did write a Modern Love column in the New York Times. And you can read it here.
- Nicky's scar from her post-overdose surgery is the real deal. Actress Natasha Lyonne suffered from the same issues with addiction as her character in the show.
- Laverne Cox's twin brother played Sophia in her pre-transition flashbacks in season one. Cox wanted to play the role herself, but "Jodie Foster, who directed the episode in which Sophia's backstory is explored, didn't think it would work." Cox's brother, M. Lamar, is a musician who described himself to The New York Times as being of the "gothic-devil-worshiping-free-black-man-blues tradition."
- The real-life Piper made a blog in 2003 about her time in prison. It's called The Pipe Bomb. Kerman ended up writing a memoir (also titled Orange Is the New Black) that inspired the show.
- All of the women in the opening credits were formerly incarcerated. There isn't a single actress in the entire sequence - and if you look really closely, you can see Piper Kerman in there too.
- Flaca has kissed Kourtney Kardashian. Yes, Jackie Cruz was on Keeping Up with the Kardashians in 2009.
- The same inmate is always crying behind Piper when she's on the phone. You didn't imagine it - Gerrman is always there, and most of the time she's weeping over her wrestler son.
- We still have no idea what the meaning of the eggplant joke really is . . . And we're still holding out hope that we'll find out in the future. But in the meantime, here's a pretty solid theory.
Orange Is the New Black's Blanca Is a Babe IRL and It's Time We Praise Her
Orange Is the New Black is full of quietly fascinating characters, but Blanca might take the cake. While she first appears as crazy, we learn in season one that she's just pretending to talk to herself because it means people don't realize she's talking to her boyfriend on her hidden cell phone. Blanca is a smart cookie, and we see even more of that in season five. Since Blanca has such an extreme look, I recently started wondering what actress Laura Gómez looks like in real life. The answer? Very different than her onscreen persona.

A Tragic Review of What Happens to Poussey in OITNB Season 4
The next chapter of Orange Is the New Black is finally here! Before we plunge headfirst into the show's fifth season, it's appropriate to take stock of where season four left off. Of course, there's the big cliffhanger in the final scene, but there are a lot of things leading up to this moment that bear remembering. After all, the building tension throughout the season is what ultimately leads to the gripping conclusion. One crucial and heartbreaking part of last year's episodes was the fate of Poussey Washington. As we prep to check back in to Litchfield, let's remember what happens.
In the second-to-last episode of season four, the inmates decide to hold a peaceful protest in the cafeteria. They're tired of the unfair treatment they're being forced to endure at the hands of the criminal justice system. More specifically, they're tired of the corrupt and monstrous new guards whose disciplinary actions fall more in the category of abuse than retribution. Suffice it to say, this "peaceful protest" quickly descends into violence and chaos. Almost immediately, Crazy Eyes experiences a psychotic break and starts yelling, "I did a bad thing! I did a bad thing!" Piscatella tells Bayley, the pushover CO, to get her to the psych ward.
As soon as Bayley tries to restrain Crazy Eyes, Poussey is on the scene. Bayley immediately pushes her to the ground and holds her there with his knee. He turns his focus back to Crazy Eyes, who is jumping on him and hitting him and trying to get him to go away. Poussey struggles underneath Bayley's knee. He has his hand against the back of her neck. She starts gasping for air and saying she can't breathe but loses strength pretty quickly. Before Bayley gets off of her, she's gone.
Poussey's death is essentially the catalyst for the final episode. It's a striking nod to the Black Lives Matter movement, and since Poussey is one of the most good-hearted characters on the show, it's devastating. The internet exploded almost immediately with shocked and exasperated reactions of grief, proving none of us will ever quite recover from the loss. All we can hope for now is justice.

Tom Hardy's Beloved Dog Died, and His Tribute Will Just Wreck You
Tom Hardy is mourning the death of his beloved dog, Woody, in the most beautiful way. Earlier this week, the Revenant star shared the sad news in a heartfelt blog post, telling fans that after "a very hard and short 6 month battle with an aggressive [muscle disease] polymyostisis," Woody passed away at just 6 years old. He went on about his four-legged friend, explaining how he first found Woody while shooting Lawless in Georgia "running across a turnpike we were turning onto late one dark night." He recalled the story of bringing Woody back to the UK with him and that his wife, Charlotte Riley, "worked tirelessly with him to get him through a rough case of separation anxiety." "He loved her like his Mum," he added, "And when she was pregnant he guarded her fiercely."
"Above all I am completely gutted. The world for me was a better place with him in it and by my side. Woody was the bestest of journey companions we ever could dream of having. Our souls intertwined forever," Tom continued. Read Tom's letter in full here, and watch his tearjerking tribute video below.

"Social Jet Lag" Happens Every Week - and It Could Cost You Your Health
Did you know that you can get jet lag not just from a trip to Belgium, but even from simply staying up till 3 a.m. eating fries? "Social jet lag," the result of disrupting your normal weekday sleep routine by staying up late and sleeping in on weekends, shows up as the same fatigue and moodiness that you experience when traveling to a different time zone. In addition to being physically and mentally tiring, new research suggests it could have dangerous lasting effects, leading to a host of major health problems.
How does social jet lag happen?
Social jet lag occurs when you have a certain sleep pattern on workdays, only to throw it all out of whack by sleeping late on your days off, all of which messes with your circadian rhythm like crazy. Your body gets used to one kind of sleep-wake pattern, only to have that pattern drastically disrupted. Hence, that hit-by-a-truck feeling that strikes on Monday morning when the alarm goes off at 7 a.m. and your body has to recalibrate all over again.
The term social jet lag was initially coined in 2006 by researchers studying the ways in which social schedules (including work and school schedules that require us to rise at certain times) mess with our individual natural rhythms. This study argued that it's actually not our weekend proclivities that need adjusting, rather that late sleepers should try to arrange their work schedules to accommodate their late-rising biological needs. People who are naturally late sleepers go into a "sleep debt" when they awaken early for work, and then they try to compensate (or repay the debt) on days off by sleeping in way later than usual.
Obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, oh my . . .
This yo-yo-ing of sleep schedules may seem harmless because it's "only on the weekends," but the long-term effects can be grim. Some studies have drawn connections between social jet lag and obesity, while others have suggested that people with a "misalignment of sleep timing" are at greater risk for diabetes.
The most recent research, published as an abstract supplement in the academic journal Sleep, concluded that "social jet lag is associated with poorer health, heart disease, worse mood, and increased sleepiness and fatigue." So, those who are already at risk for heart disease, diabetes, and even depression are not doing themselves any favors with irregular sleep schedules.
Consistency is key
In an ideal world, you'd fall asleep and awaken with your body's natural rhythms. But for now, the best bet is to maintain a consistent sleep cycle - one that isn't dramatically altered every five days and includes at least seven hours of sleep per night.

Meryl Streep Dressed as Diane Keaton to Honor Diane Keaton, and It Was Perfect
Diane Keaton was (finally) honored with a Life Achievement Award by the American Film Institute in LA on Thursday night. The big event brought out lots of her famous friends and costars, including Father of the Bride's Steve Martin and Martin Short, Emma Stone, Reese Witherspoon, and Meryl Streep, who took the stage to give a toast to her fellow legend. Meryl went the extra mile to celebrate her longtime friend by wearing a look inspired by one of Diane's most iconic characters, Annie Hall; from the blazer and tie to the oversize hat, Meryl really nailed her homage to the 1977 film, as well as Diane's own unique personal style. The 71-year-old star looked overjoyed to see Meryl's ensemble, and the two stuck together throughout the gala. 6 Secrets Real Estate Agents Know About Kitchen Remodels
So you're finally ready to renovate your dated kitchen, but unsure what upgrades will see a return when it comes time to sell. Katharine Tuckerman, a seasoned real estate agent in Manhattan's Upper East Side with Brown Harris Stevens, says that this room can make or break a deal, because buyers know they will "spend all their time in the kitchen!"
First and foremost, "people really lean towards light and bright kitchens," she says. And although there are so many fun opportunities for customization and colors in a remodel, Katharine confirms the adage that "a neutral palate is always a safe call." Of course, it's not quite that simple! While buyers often anticipate "making minor adjustments," some specific design choices have major selling power, or will just make the space "show much better," as Katharine puts it. From countertops and cabinetry to lighting and appliances, she gives us her winning formula for a kitchen renovation that will rock the MLS!

37 Orange Is the New Black Quotes You Can Use Even If You're Not in Prison
Our favorite jailbirds on Orange Is the New Black haven't just worked their way into our hearts; they also make us crack up. Some of the lines on the Netflix show are so funny that we want to repeat them - even if, you know, they were originally used in the prison context. They're just too good, so we've figured out how you can use them in your non-Litchfield life, while you're sitting around waiting for more details about Orange Is the New Black season five and peeping on the cast in real life.
An Open Letter to the Lifeguard From Moms of 8-Year-Olds Everywhere
Dear Lifeguard,
As you have probably noticed, this is the first Summer that all three of my children are able to swim independently. It may have been obvious by the fact that we're all lined up like teenagers at a Rolling Stones concert waiting for the front pool gates to open, or by the stack of gossip magazines and discarded single serve plastic bottles of Rum Chata littered around my lounge chair at closing time.
Either way, let's have a little talk.
I'm going to put it to you straight. I've put in eight long years of hard time to get to this point, and now I'm done. I'm passing the baton. It's all you buddy.
It's been eight years of swimming lessons. And not the cushy, fancy swimming lessons with heated pools and the ability to change clothes without an audience, either. It's been wet naked me chasing wet naked toddlers through a maze of wet naked wrinkled flesh in the arctic YMCA locker room questioning my life choices and reminding myself that some things are better "in theory."
It's been years of lugging around that big floaty thing that doubles as a coffee table, then years of packing life jackets, then years of packing arm floaties, then years of packing all three. Do you have any idea what it's like to drag all of that crap around? I was like a real life, walking, cursing coat rack.
And then when it came time to actually get into that godforsaken ice tray you call a pool, all four of us were attached together like a freaking chain gang, me shivering my butt off as I was more often than not caught in the cross fires of a teenage game of splash. Watching, slack jaw and teary-eyed, the other moms on the lounge chairs who had crossed the finish line to aquatic freedom. Moms able to sit back and hold a conversation, whose kids could busy themselves searching for dive sticks and jumping off the board and going to the bathroom by themselves.
"Someday that'll be me," I whispered to my red faced baby as I watched her grunt and fill her swim diaper to maximum capacity.
Now here's the part where you come in. I'm out. You're in. Suit up and hop off the bench because the coach is calling you up. You are now responsible for keeping my children alive so that they can one day repay my eight years of favors by wiping my ass in the nursing home.
You, yes you – the barely teenager making minimum wage wearing a hemp necklace and staring into space at nothing at all, most likely mentally running through your favorite pizza toppings in order of most to least protein.
Listen - it took a lot of blood, sweat and nipples capable of cutting glass for me to get them out of floaties and onto the diving board. I've earned my spot in this lounge chair with my book three times over. One of us is going to have to be responsible for my kids in that pool it's not going to be me. Imma be super busy over here reading my rags and sunning my mams.
So please, pretty please with sugar on top – look alive. Like, literally. The majority of the time you're up there I wonder if I need to hold a mirror under that nose. We would all appreciate it if you could just, for a few hours, pretend to be interested in something other than the hotties your own age sunbathing in the corner.
Sincerely,
Moms of 8-Year-Olds Everywhere
P.S. It was my kid who pooped in the pool six years ago. In my defense she had been potty trained for over 36 hours and I had no idea that the effects of canned ravioli would be so intense. Sorry about that – please don't hold it against me.

Okay, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner's Twilight Reunion Is Pretty Freakin' Adorable
Miss seeing Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner play a vampire and werewolf in the Twilight series? Well, the actors probably aren't reprising their supernatural roles anytime soon, but they did have an adorable reunion in LA on Thursday. The former costars and real-life friends shared a sweet embrace at a Moschino afterparty. While Kristen sported her infamous buzzed haircut, Taylor showed off some sexy scruff as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder. This isn't the first time the two have reunited since wrapping Breaking Dawn – Part 2. In 2015, Kristen brought along Taylor as her date to her big premiere for American Ultra. Bella and Jacob may not have been true love, but we're happy to see Kristen and Taylor's friendship is still going strong.

Book-Lovers Will Immediately Recognize the Inspiration Behind This Romantic Shoot
Shot on Prince Edward Island, this couples shoot between two islanders in love was inspired by the tales of author Lucy Maud Montgomery. The Anne of Green Gables author set her classic stories in the Cavendish national park, which has become a literary landmark ever since. Photographer Rachel Peters - who made the shoot's dress herself - along with a team of vendors chose a beautiful red-headed model as the female lead. "The fact that she has beautiful red hair as well as that they match our beautiful capes/rocks only seemed suitable," she said.

Pretty Little Liars: We Have Every Reason to Believe Someone's Gonna Die on the Series Finale
When Pretty Little Liars wraps up forever on June 27, it will be with multiple weddings and probably multiple deaths. I mean, there's a psychopath out there (as usual), and it's called "Till Death Do Us Part," which can't just be about weddings, considering it's this show.
I had the chance to chat with series creator I. Marlene King and a group of reporters at ATX this week, and obviously, I asked her if there will be any deaths on the series finale. She gave it some thought, admitting, "My God, I have to think back because my PLL brain has died," which makes sense, since the series actually wrapped several months ago, and since then, she's been hard at work on her new series, Famous in Love.
After reiterating that "It's the deadliest season ever," she paused, and said, "I'm keepin' it real mum about that, because I don't want to mess anything up in this final moment. It's exciting and it's very big, I'll say." So yeah, she essentially revealed nothing . . . or did she? If the answer was no, it's very easy to say no, especially considering the finale promises plenty of other reasons to watch. And of course, there was that time she tweeted the line of dialogue where someone says, "Are you here to kill me?" from the final season's script. It's safe to say that no one is safe.

You Are Better Than a Smoky Eye - So Don't Ask For It Again
After being a makeup artist for over a decade, I can pretty much size you up the minute I see you coming. I can quickly assess you by your outfit, your bag, your hairstyle, and your jewelry and know immediately that you want only a tinted moisturizer. I know that, even when you say you want something more than that, you won't like it.
I know that you use retinol everyday without you telling me. I know that you have botox and fillers. I know that you only wear chapstick on your very chapped lips. When you say "Um yeah, I have an eye cream," with hesitation, I know that you are referring to the free Clinique sample that has been in your drawer for at least a year. I also know that you are compulsively plucking your brows that "just never grow!"
I don't judge. I really don't care what you do at home. Please, I am asking you to just be honest.
I can also tell as soon as you sit in my chair, if you can handle a lot of makeup or not. But without fail at least once a day, a preppy, non-makeup wearing woman will sit down and look me straight in the face and say "I think I would like a smoky eye."
I don't know who came up with this clever term, but if I ever meet him I will punch him in the face.
You don't want a smoky eye. You like the idea of it. You see Kim Kardashian on Pinterest and you fantasize about having this sultry look the next time you are attending a wedding or bar mitzvah. You imagine yourself as a much younger, sexier version of yourself, and you think that at the ripe age of 37 you are now ready to look like that sexy woman on Instagram with fake eyelashes and "contour" and black eyeliner rimming every inch of your eyeball.
Sometimes you have a Naked Palette from Urban Decay so you think you are edgy, but if you were to be honest you would admit you only use the lightest shades in the palette and the darker colors are untouched. You may have watched the tutorials on YouTube on "how to create a smoky eye," so you think you are ready for it.
You're not.
I know it.
You will have to learn the hard way.
"So do you normally wear a lot of eye makeup?" I ask innocently, while I prep your skin. I start with a soft fleshy tone on your lid and then I add a little bit of a darker tone. Never a true smoke color, because I don't want you to cry or run away. You will clutch the hand mirror and ask if you can look. I will let you.
I know. Please stop saying this. I don't even know how to make someone look like a clown. If you hired me to do clown makeup I would have to decline the job. I am not in the clown business. I am simply attempting to do what you requested me to do.
PS. We haven't created any "smoke" yet.
You will clutch your mirror and try to watch what I am doing, as you give me permission to proceed. I will add some dark brown or smoky color in your crease. I add some smudgy black liner and some mascara. You don't even have two layers of fake lashes on yet like a Kardashian. I see that you are clutching your hand mirror and your knuckles are white so I let you take a peek.
You don't. But you also don't look like yourself.
I ask if you would like me to take off some of the makeup and gently remind you that you are nowhere near the amount of makeup featured in the Instagram photo that you showed me when you first sat down. You sheepishly say that you would like to take off some of the liner . . . and maybe some of the dark shadow.
I take off the makeup.
You say "Maybe just do what you think looks best?"
Now we can get along.
I suggest a more realistic "eye look" that will allow you to feel comfortable while still making you look good. I say "Let's create a look that shows off your eye color and makes you look like a better version of yourself." The tension in your shoulders lessens and the grip on the hand mirror relaxes a bit."Yes, let's do that." you say with relief.
Because you are not Kim Kardashian, nor do you want to be. You will not be followed by the flashbulbs of the paparazzi and you will not spend your days taking selfies. You simply want to look like a better version of yourself and a "smoky eye" does not do that for most women.
You will leave with hydrated glowing skin and makeup that makes your blue eyes pop and your cheekbones glow. You are simply a better version of yourself, and you will walk out the door with your head held high and a little bit of a skip in your step.
You are better than a smoky eye. So don't ask for it again.
