Kylie Jenner's Genius New Ink Shows How to Deal With a Tattoo For Your Ex

Breakups suck. You have to give each other back your respective stuff, try not to snoop on their new boo thang's social media (NEVER a good idea), figure out what to do with your tattoo of their name . . . OK, maybe that last one only applies to Kylie Jenner. You see, back in December 2016, Kylie got a cute lil "t" tattooed on her left ankle. It stood for Tyga, of course, but they broke up in April.

Later, Jenner started dating Travis Scott. And then they got matching butterfly ankle ink in June. Ah, to be young and in love!

While out in London, Kylie showed off her newest piece of ink, which should look somewhat familiar. That's because Kylie went and changed the "t" for Tyga to a cursive "L.A." It's hard not to compare this to Johnny Depp's iconic "Wino Forever" tattoo (which he got back in 1994 - three years before Kylie was born!). But this is a much more delicate, modern update. It's also a genius way to recycle ink. Props to Kylie for being so resourceful. Relationships come and go, but the 310 love lasts a lifetime.

We Can't Find 1 Flaw With Hilary Duff's Effortless Boho Bikini

While vacationing with her son, Luca, in Maui, Hilary Duff didn't just flaunt a number of stylish swimsuits. The glowing mom also sent out a message to body shamers on Instagram, acknowledging her "celeb flaws." Shortly after, she headed to the beach in a brand new two-piece: a white knotted top and a leaf print bottom that she complemented with a couple of gold necklaces, a patterned cover-up, aviator sunglasses, and a trucker hat, making for an effortless look. There were no flaws here, as far as we're concerned - Hilary's set is classic for a girl with boho taste who likes to mix and match her separates every once in awhile. Read on for another glimpse, then shop similar designs if you're inspired.

Martin Shkreli's lack of remorse could bite 'Pharma Bro,' experts say

USA-CRIME/SHKRELI

Less than an hour after a jury convicted Martin Shkreli of securities fraud, the so-called "Pharma Bro" was back at his New York City apartment doing what comes naturally: trash talking in a live-stream on YouTube.

This Is How All Your Favorite Chefs Cook Steak

Steak is one of those things that intimidates a lot of people but really shouldn't. If you've ever struggled with cooking the perfect steak, this list of tips should help. We've turned to some of our favorite Food Network personalities and more celebrity chefs for their steakhouse-worthy cooking methods.

Alton Brown: Pan-Seared and Oven-Baked

For pan-seared rib eyes, Alton Brown recommends two key things: bring the steak to room temperature (it cooks quicker this way), and heat a cast-iron skillet in the oven while the oven heats to 500 degrees. He doesn't use the oven until the steaks have been seared first, but heating up the skillet before putting it on the stove helps get the process started and ensure a completely heated-through pan.

Giada De Laurentiis: Add Italian Flavors

Giada's Tuscan rib-eye steak recipe proves everything is better with Italian flair. If you're into rosemary, thyme, garlic, and lemon (who isn't?), this is the best way to cook your steak.

Ree Drummond: Butter-Rubbed Grill Pan

The Pioneer Woman's first blog post to go viral was titled "How to Cook a Steak," and it's easy to see why. Her "never-fail arsenal" is just three ingredients: "Lawry's Seasoned Salt, McCormick Lemon Pepper, and a nice stick of regular (salted) butter." Ree advises coating a hot grill pan in butter before searing the steaks. In the post, she promises, "If you cook it for your friends, they'll never invite you over to their house for dinner again. You will have permanently raised the bar."

Gordon Ramsay: Baste With Butter

It's no surprise that Gordon Ramsay's tip for steak is the same as his tip for burgers: baste with butter. Besides the fact that fat makes everything taste better, Gordon explains that coating steak with melted butter "gives it a nice nutty brown finish."

Ina Garten: Steakhouse-Style Filet Mignon

Leave it to The Barefoot Contessa to school us in making a restaurant-worthy dish at home. If you're feeling fancy and opt for filet mignon, you'll want to use a generous coating of fleur de sel and coarsely cracked black peppercorns to achieve a perfect crust. If you follow her recipe to a T, you'll be the one saying, "How easy is that?"

Chrissy Teigen: Soak in a Garlicky Marinade

Chrissy Teigen admits in her cookbook, Cravings, that she's normally a traditionalist when it comes to steak (page 206), but her husband John Legend's "best marinade in existence" changed her mind. A lot goes into it - soy sauce and garlic, for starters - and after marinating for eight hours, you're on your way to juicy, flavor-packed steak. "I would probably still go simple if I was staring at the most beautiful piece of beef I've ever seen, but use this tangy marinade on a nice, solid rib eye, and I promise you, it will be hard for you to have it any other way," she wrote.

Tom Colicchio: Grill on Each Side

Top Chef's Tom Colicchio recommends turning the steak a total of six times while it's on the grill (grill it for three to four minutes on each side, including the edges). He also recognizes that quality is more important than quantity when it comes to steak. In an interview with POPSUGAR, he said, "start with buying the perfect steak - you can't buy a lousy piece of meat and make it great."

Bobby Flay: Perfectly Grilled

Bobby Flay, master of the grill, doesn't bother with anything complicated for his perfectly grilled steak recipe. All you need is steak, oil, and salt and pepper - and Bobby always recommends oiling the meat itself, not the grill or pan.

Michelle Obama's Dress Will Tell You Exactly Where She's Going

When Michelle Obama's on business, she chooses designs that are tailored. You'll find her accessorizing with a structured leather bag and perhaps a strand of pearls. But when she's headed on vacation, Michelle lets loose. Forget the tidy hairstyle - she's rocking a wide headband and oversize shades. And when it comes to her dresses, they've all got a bit more movement, a bit more color, and a casual touch.

Whether they're made of linen or lace, or extend to the ground like some of her boho-style maxis, Michelle's vacation looks are bold enough to put a smile on your face. What might make you even more ecstatic, however, is shopping similar silhouettes ahead of your next getaway. Though you might not be jetting off to Honolulu on Air Force One with the Obamas, choosing a breezy outfit that's been FLOTUS-approved will always be on point. Scroll to get started.

6- and 7-Year-Olds Couldn't Solve This Math Test Question, and We're Not Surprised

The internet is having a field day figuring out what the real answer is to a simple math problem. A Twitter user named Louise Bloxham shared a math problem from a Year 2 (equivalent to the first grade in the US) workbook. The tweet and account are now gone but the problem asked, "There were some people on a train. 19 people get off the train at the first stop. 17 people get on the train. Now there are 63 people on the train. How many people were on the train to begin with?"

If you try solving it yourself, you'll probably get this setup: X - 19 + 17 = 63. All you have to do is solve for x, which gives you 65 as the answer:

But if you look further into the comments, users start arguing that the answer is 46, not 65.

Other commentators became philosophical and said that the math problem fails to factor in the train driver and inspector:

The situation apparently became too much for one person, who said that everyone was "looking at it algebraically for proof purposes," when it was really just a simple equation.

Although the math question has stumped some parents and young children, the main concern here is not whether or not it can be solved, but if 6- and 7-year-olds should've been asked it. That answer to that question is simple: if there's this much debate about it with adults, then it's not suitable for children.

4 Reasons Women Should NEVER Breastfeed in Public

Enough is enough, ladies! It's time to end the is-it-OK-to-breastfeed-in-public debate once and for all. Mother of two Kristina Kuzmic took to YouTube to outline the four main reasons women should never, ever breastfeed in public, and it's utter genius . . . likely because it's nearly three minutes of hysterical, all-out satire.

From the fear that a breast could be exposed for like a second (or, "like two . . . two seconds!") to the fact that moms shouldn't even need to go out in public, she's making a solid case for those who've long been victimized by nursing moms.

And if her reasoning doesn't convince you, she brings up a valid question: "do these breastfeeding moms even want to have children, or did they just have them so they could ruin everybody's day with their exhibitionism?" Think about that.

Iskra Lawrence's Instagram Should Really Come With a Heat Warning

There really isn't anything not to love about Iskra Lawrence. The 26-year-old English beauty is the global role model for Aerie, a lingerie and intimate apparel brand that is known for its "no retouching" ads. And Iskra is all about that body positivity. Not only can the model rock the hell out of a swimsuit (seriously, we can only hope to one day have those abs), but she frequently encourages her Instagram followers to do away with all that self-hate. Whether she's posting a selfie, hitting a beach, or lounging in her sweats, Iskra always manages to look hot, hot, hot. She also almost always captions her photos with #NOretouching and #everyBODYisbeautiful, which should make you look down at yours and say, "You know what? Damn!"

These 12 Women Changed the World and You May Not Even Know Their Names

The past year was an extremely significant one for women in America, as the nation saw the first woman ever nominated as presidential candidate for a major political party and women gathered in unprecedented numbers at marches across the United States to protest on behalf of women's rights. In keeping with that momentum, we've decided to take a look back at some women who forever changed history but who have often been overlooked in our textbooks and shared cultural memory. Here are 12 revolutionary women who faced great odds but nevertheless persisted.

The 10 Best Bottles For Breastfed Babies

Breastfed babies don't only take their milk from the breast. While lactation consultants suggest waiting at least three weeks before introducing a bottle, breastfeeding mamas often abide by their own schedules. Finding a bottle that truly mimics the motion, flow, and feeling of the breast is often the hardest part of making the switch. We've put countless bottles to the test, and narrowed our list down to nine.

Check out our picks for the most breast-like bottles on the market, and let us know which one you (or your children) prefer.

10 Memes That Will Make You Laugh If You Speak Spanish

Here's one thing I love that a lot of people around me don't appreciate: memes and puns that play to the bilingual in me. I love a Ryan Gosling "Hey Girl" meme just as much as the next girl, but when there's "soy sauce" in a picture and there's a play on the Spanish word, well, it makes me do a bit of a happy jump. Here are just 10 memes that will have you laughing out loud (perhaps a little too hard) like nobody's watching.

Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady's Apartment Might Be Even More Beautiful Than They Are

Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady seem to be over their $13.4 million condo in New York's Flatiron district. A year after they purchased it in 2013, they started renting it for a cool $40,000 a month. Page Six reported that the supermodel and quarterback upgraded to a $20 million apartment on a desirable high floor in 70 Vestry, a new luxury building in Tribeca. The A-listers' new French-limestone-covered building is understatedly elegant and boasts breathtaking views of the Hudson River. Building amenities are fitting of a five-star hotel and include an ultraprivate entrance to keep the prying eyes of the paparazzi at bay, extensive athletic facilities so Tom can stay in NFL shape (think an 82-foot-long indoor lap pool, squash court, and yoga studio, just to name a few), a posh lounge, a cafe, and a children's playroom. Take a look at the family's Tribeca digs in the pictures ahead.

16 Summer Panties So Comfortable You Might Not Want to Take Them Off

When it comes to sweltering Summer days, the undergarments we choose to wear are pretty important. Whether you're a fan of delicate lace bralettes or freeing the nipple (to each their own), the main goal is comfort.

The same can be said for your panties. You want a pair that provides breathability and perhaps looks seamless so they don't show up under your sheer dresses. Shopping for the "Summer panty," as we're calling it, isn't too hard. Look for mesh or lace options made of lightweight cotton or silk. We even provided some shopping options ahead. When you slip these babies on, you won't feel a thing.

What Is the Net Worth of the Game of Thrones Cast?

The following post was originally featured on GOBankingRates.

Game of Thrones fans, rejoice: The seventh season of the sword-wielding, dragon-riding, politically charged fantasy drama hits HBO on July 16. There will only be seven episodes in this installment of George R.R. Martin's book-to-television adaptation, as opposed to the normal 10-episode sprint of seasons past. Season seven will be the penultimate chapter of the series, with the final season only airing six episodes in 2018 or 2019.

No matter the length, though, Game of Thrones fans will be tuning in. The season six finale drew a record high of 8.9 million viewers, according to Variety, up from 8.1 million viewers the season prior. As the season seven premiere approaches, find out more about the net worths of the characters from your favorite Game of Thrones houses - the ones who have survived, that is.

The Best Way to Scramble Eggs, According to Anthony Bourdain

When it comes to the best way to scramble eggs, chefs tend to disagree. And one chef who embraces an entirely back-to-basics, no-frills approach is Anthony Bourdain. Bourdain describes his perfect scrambled egg in a video and makes it clear there's one thing you should never add to to the equation: dairy. "I just don't feel that milk or cream adds anything. I believe that a scrambled egg is principally about the egg," the chef says in the video. "You're not making a quiche here," he says. In his Appetites cookbook, which is filled with recipes that Bourdain thinks everyone should know how to cook, he describes his go-to method of scrambling eggs. Ready for it?

Start with fresh eggs, and get a hot - but not too hot - pan going. Crack the eggs on a flat surface before dropping them into a bowl to prevent any shells from sneaking in. Beat them with a fork, but don't overbeat them; you want to have a ripple of white and yellow instead of an entirely yellow mixture. Drop plenty of whole butter into the hot pan until it's foaming, followed by the beaten eggs. Allow the eggs to form a little bit before beginning to gently move them around in a "figure-eight pattern," as Anthony describes. The final product should be fluffy, airy, and rippled.

So there you have it. Unlike Alton Brown, who scrambles his eggs with whole milk, or Chrissy Teigen, who makes "cheesy" cheeseless scrambled eggs with heavy cream, or Paula Deen, who claims adding water lightens them up, Anthony Bourdain omits any of these additions for a basic, buttery egg.

You Can Just Call This Dress Melania Trump's Summer Uniform

For many women in the public eye, it helps to develop a trustworthy, flattering uniform, or at the very least, a power color. Ladies like the Duchess of Cambridge and British Prime Minister Theresa May keep it simple, Kate sticking to coat dresses more often than not and Theresa May opting for fitted skirt suits. But it took a minute for us to discover Melania Trump's go-to outfit - perhaps she had been distracting us with over-the-top designer statement pieces and a few custom numbers by stylist Hervé Pierre.

But after she posted a photo of herself alongside the White House interns in this ivory dress, we've finally arrived at Melania's chosen silhouette: a Michael Kors Collection sheath. The FLOTUS wore the exact same piece during the primary election at Trump Towers, and when she greeted Panama's president and first lady, she wore a powder blue variation with three rows of buttons at the sides. If we didn't know any better, we'd say Melania has found her dress match in a formfitting Michael Kors Collection look. Read on for the proof.

6 Strategies to Teach Your Angry Kid to Calm Down

Like most humans, kids get angry, except for when young children get angry, they don't always know the right way to let off steam leaving you the mom with a heated child who's having a wicked temper tantrum. How do you get your kid to express his or her anger in a positive way? When my ex-husband and I separated, my daughter struggled with letting out her anger simply because she was 3 and so young when we began the divorce process and didn't (and still doesn't quite) understand divorce. It's complicated enough for adults to grieve the end of a marriage, much less a toddler or preschooler. So we sought out a way to help her express and handle her emotions through play therapy. Try teaching your kid these six strategies to blow a gasket without raising an actual ruckus.

When to Teach These Techniques

Before we get into some great tips for getting kids to control those little horns they have hidden in their head, here are three things you need to know if you want them to roll these techniques out the right way:

Tell them when they're calm: Don't teach your children these tricks when they're already mad. Tell them after they've blown a gasket or when you're simply talking to your little one about feelings, which you should do often. Emotional intelligence is important!

Demonstrate the tricks yourself: Ready to lose your cool? Your kid is watching. Bust out a technique or two to show your kid you can control your temper too. Remember, kids learn by what we do more than what we say . . .

Remind, remind, remind: If your child gets mad, forgets to use her tools, and then calms down, grab her while she's mellow to remind her of these tricks she could have used instead of losing control. Eventually they will become second nature to her.

Now for the tricks!

1. Countdown to Calm Down

It's really tough to not let that impulse to scream, yell, or what have you when you're angry but if you teach your little one to count down when in the heat of a meltdown it might give your kiddo some time to calm a little before making a bad choice.

Countdown so you can calm down . . . it's easy to remember and kind of catchy!

2. Ask For a Hug

If your junior is ready to blow his top off, tell him that when he's really mad it's OK to ask for a hug. This may seem strange to you, but we started this with our daughter and now I see that most of the times when she is angry, there is some sadness underneath. A hug makes her feel better even if she's not going to get her way or is upset with me or her dad. The more she started asking for this, the quicker her meltdowns ended and the faster the tears and squeezes came on. And while no mom wants her child to cry, usually the tears are a sign of getting out all those yucky feelings your kiddo is struggling to deal with and soon enough, there's peace in the "homeland" again.

3. Quiet Activity

Was it right for your child to hit you, throw something, or say fresh words? Nope, but trying to discipline your child in the moment the fire is raging is an exercise in futility. Instead when your child is getting angry or already starting to throw the punches so to speak, direct him or her to a quiet activity like reading a book or doing a puzzle.

The other day my daughter had a fit. She hadn't had a nap and it was an extremely hot and long day. I put her on the couch but she jumped off and went for a puzzle. Instead of barking for her to sit in timeout instead, I let her do her puzzle quietly while we both cooled off and approached her a few minutes later to discuss what had happened.

Encouraging your child to do a quiet activity before a tantrum happens can help nip a developing problem in its bud.

4. Sing a Little Song

When your child is fuming, encourage him to sing a little song or whistle a tune. It's hard to be pissed if you're singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" or "Sexy Back" from Justin Timberlake. Well, let's hope they're not singing the latter song.

5. Squeeze the Crap Out of Something

When you're mad, sometimes you feel like wringing someone's neck. Instead of encouraging choking someone, give your kid a doll or stress ball to squeeze or offer a pillow to punch. Hey, every now and then we all have a little pent-up fuel that needs to be released. At least this way no one is harmed . . . besides some pink rubbery squeezy ball!

6. Talk to Me

Encourage your child to verbalize his anger with "I statements" like "I feel angry when you won't let me do X," or "I feel angry when X won't play with me," etc. Verbalizing the emotion is healthy!

For Parents

Here are a few things I keep in mind when dealing with my kiddo when she's fuming:

  1. I offer empathy to how she is feeling. She may be mad I am not buying her a doll, but I empathize with how she feels. This doesn't mean I will then give in but that I acknowledge how she feels.
  2. Consequences must be realistic and carried through. There have been times in which I hear myself rattle off words and after think, there's no way I will stick with that consequence. I strive to always give a realistic consequence that I can carry out!
  3. Stepping away is sometimes a necessity . . . for parents! When a kid is lashing out it's not fun. Stepping away for your own timeout is acceptable for your sanity. Just don't leave your kid alone in a shopping mall. OK?

We all get pissed or "stewed" from time to time. Teaching our kids how to handle their ugly angry side is part of our job. Emotions don't come with a handbook!

The Best Recipes That Feature Yuca in All Its Delicious Glory

Growing up in a Latin household, you're probably already familiar with yuca, also known as cassava or manioca. But there's a reason your mom let you eat yuca fry after yuca fry without any objection: the root vegetable is a longtime staple of Latin American cuisine not only because of its delicious starchy flavor but also for its healthy powers fighting inflammation and even high blood pressure. Now that Mom is not always around to cook the veggie for you, it's time to try your hand at making the comfort food. Yuca can be mashed or steamed, or even cooked in soups or desserts - seriously! This Bride's Wedding Dress Landed Her in Vogue, but Wait Till You See What the Bridesmaids Wore

It's not every day we peel our eyes away from a stunning wedding dress to "ooh" and "ahh" over what the bridesmaids wore, but looking at photos from Annabelle Caufman Soudavar and Maximilian Moehlmann's big day, that's exactly what happened. While the bride's classic Carolina Herrera was no doubt breathtaking - especially when the lacy, fitted number was paired with a long, dramatic veil - the ladies who stood by her side wore different floral dresses, a fun, trendy choice that simply made us swoon.

Annabelle wanted it this way, though. "I had asked that they all select their own dresses with the direction that they should be pale, romantic, and floral," she told Vogue, which covered the chic East Hampton wedding. "I wanted everyone's individual style to come through, and for my friends to feel beautiful and like themselves."

The choice definitely paid off in the end: everyone looked so stylish, we're starting to wish we were in that wedding party! Scroll through for more views of Annabelle's gown, then check out what the bridesmaids - including fashion influencer Hannah Bronfman - wore.

1 Makeup Artist's Re-creations of Disney Villains Are So Accurate They're Scary

A makeup whiz is already giving us the inspiration we need for this coming Halloween. (Yes, we're fully aware it's several months away - and?) Audrey Logeais is a Paris-based makeup artist who frequently transforms her kind and willing friend, Ahmed Guerrouache, into famous villains from the expanded Disney universe.

Audrey began sharing her work on Instagram in 2015, her very first villain being Jafar from Aladdin. Since then, she's managed to re-create villains from Hercules and Star Wars: The Force Awakens with startling accuracy. As a result, Audrey is gradually amassing a larger social following, with each makeup transformation racking up more likes. It's her re-creation of Yzma from The Emperor's New Groove, however, that has received the most attention. Ahead, see Audrey's incredible work.

Baby Tiger Cubs Are Coming to Disney World, and We Can't Think of Anything Better

Magic. Mickey Mouse. Disney Princesses. And now, tiger cubs! Walt Disney World just announced that Sohni and Malosi, Sumatran tigers that live at Disney World's Animal Kingdom, are expecting a litter of cubs this Fall. So if you were sitting around asking yourself "can Disney World get any better?" - the answer is yes, yes, it can.

This is amazing news not just for park-goers who will get to bask in the cuteness of tiger cubs, but for the Sumatran tiger species as a whole, since they are very endangered. "There are reported to be only around 500 of these gorgeous Sumatran tigers left in the wild," says Disney.

The Disney Conservation Fund issued a statement along with the announcement, saying that Disney is "very involved" in the efforts to save endangered Sumatran tigers. "To date the Conservation Fund has provided nearly $2.5 million to protect tigers and their habitats," they said.

You can visit the parents and (soon!) the babies when you tour the Maharajah Jungle Trek in the Asia area of Disney's Animal Kingdom.

If Anti-Vaxxers Win Over Even a Few Parents, the Effects Could Be Devastating

Even a small decrease in children who receive vaccinations could result in a big impact. Our friends at Fatherly explain how a dip in vaccinated children can severely endanger your kids' and others' health and safety.

Just a five percent drop among kids who receive the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccination could cause measles cases to spike threefold annually, according to new research. The study, published in JAMA Pediatrics, projects that these additional incidences will increase public health costs by at least $2.1 million, or $20,000 per case. Given that unvaccinated children tend to cluster geographically, this may mean that future outbreaks are possible, and that means a lot of sick kids with a host of related health problems, including shortened lives.

"From my standpoint, measles seems destined to return in states such as Texas, as it has this spring and summer in Minnesota," Dr. Peter Hotez, Dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine, told Fatherly. Hotez is also a vaccine scientist, pediatrician, and the father to a daughter with Autism.

Using data obtained from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Hotez and his colleagues created a mathematical model to simulate county-level MMR vaccine coverage for children ages 2 to 11 years old in present day America. Then they simulated what a measles outbreak would look like following two chance events, accounting for more than 10,000 scenarios. First, they looked at what would happen when a person visiting an endemic area returned to their country and interacted with multiple people. Then they looked at what would happen if an unvaccinated child exposed to measles did the same.

"We asked if such declines precipitate measles outbreaks such as they have in Europe recently, especially in Romania and elsewhere," Hotez explains.

Results revealed a 93 percent MMR coverage rate, with non-medical exemptions making up 2 percent, with 48 cases annually. However, they found that just a 5 percent decline would increase this by three times that, up to 150 cases. When the simulations estimated the price of declining vaccination rates in children 2 and younger, public health costs went up another $400,000 on top of the $2.1 million projection. "The findings show that our nation's immunization coverage is fragile, and that drops in the 18 U.S. states that allow non-medical exemptions could precipitate measles outbreaks," Hotez says.

While all 50 states currently require the MMR vaccine and other childhood vaccinations prior to enrollment in elementary school or day care, children can be exempted for medical and non-medical reasons. Mississippi, West Virginia, and California (which notably eliminated all non-medical exemptions following the 2015 measles outbreak at Disneyland) are the only states that don't allow parents to decline vaccines for religious reasons, and 18 states allow exemptions for non-medical and non-religious personal beliefs. And that means a lot more children are at risk of becoming victims of anti-science rhetoric and otherwise eradicated diseases.

Having experienced it firsthand, Hotez understands that is a complicated and emotional decision for parents and is skeptical that these findings will change all of their minds. "But it might prompt pediatricians and pediatric nurse practitioners to work harder to convince parents to vaccinate their kids."

What This Officer Did After Pulling Over a 9-Months-Pregnant Woman Is Going Viral

UPDATE >> We talked to Officer Jim Allen about the traffic stop. He had an important message to share >>...

Posted by KIRO 7 News on Friday, July 31, 2015

When Amby M. Johnson saw the flashing lights in her rearview mirror in Seattle, she knew she was going to get a ticket. At 38 weeks pregnant, she was having a "really bad contraction," so she decided to drive around a speed bump in the road to avoid further pain.

A female military police officer pulled her over and explained the reason - her license plates were expired.

"I reached to my back seat and showed her that I had the new ones, my husband just had not had the time to put them on," Johnson wrote on Facebook. "He's in the Navy and sometimes he works long days, and I don't want to bother him to put them on . . . Bending over to put them on myself was definitely out of the question."

A few moments later, another car pulled up and a male police officer, Jim Allen, approached Johnson's vehicle. But instead of issuing a citation, the two officers returned her paperwork and instructed her to affix the license plates soon. Johnson politely asked if Allen could help right then and there. He politely obliged.

Johnson took a photo of the officer and posted it on Facebook. Her caption, which was updated after the image went viral in August 2015, read:

"Today you don't hear about the officers who actually do good, but I wanted to be one of the people to give credit when it's due. . . I just wish people who comment and share the story would stop seeing race or the fact that I said he was sweating his balls off. It bothers me so bad that majority of the shares have the heading WHITE OFFICER helps BLACK WOMAN. . . Just see the story for what it is. A good officer helping out a woman. No race."

As for Allen? The female officer joked at the time that he should be awarded officer of the year. His thoughts on the situation, which he told to KIRO 7 News, were simple: "We're human, too and we need to have compassion."

The Surprising Story Behind How Starbucks Got Its Name

You've probably spent more money at Starbucks than you'd like to admit, but have you ever wondered where the name came from? It turns out there's a pretty interesting story behind it. In a 2008 interview in The Seattle Times, Starbucks cofounder Gordon Bowker answered more than a dozen questions, including one about how Starbucks got its name. He gave a detailed response that discloses the surprising inspiration and coincidental connection to Moby-Dick. Bowker said, "We were thinking of all kinds of names and came desperately close to calling it Cargo House, which would have been a terrible, terrible mistake." He mentioned that someone he'd worked with claimed that he thought words beginning with "st" were powerful, so Bowker created a list of words starting with those two letters.

Then things took an interesting turn toward Moby-Dick, and a character's name ultimately inspired what Bowker thought would make a good coffee-house name. "Somebody somehow came up with an old mining map of the Cascades and Mount Rainier, and there was an old mining town called Starbo," Bowker continued. "As soon as I saw Starbo, I, of course, jumped to Melville's first mate [named Starbuck] in Moby-Dick. But Moby-Dick didn't have anything to do with Starbucks directly; it was only coincidental that the sound seemed to make sense." And there you have it. After you're done making a mental note that words starting with "st" have a powerful effect, you can read the full response about the origin of Starbucks's name here.

When it comes to footwear, Google can provide lots of intel, and it turns out people are searching specifics (though of course, there's the occasional "shoes with the red sole" query that always makes us giggle). But if that doesn't surprise you, maybe this will: sneaker companies like Common Projects are gaining tons of traction, so you can finally replace your Adidas Stan Smiths, if you're so inclined. Babies Born With Down Syndrome 3 Days in a Row Share an Epic Birthday Cake Smash

Back in June, photographer Nicole Starr had the pleasure of working with a nonprofit, Julia's Way, to capture 10 babies with Down syndrome in a photo shoot that celebrates breastfeeding, which is where three little ladies, Catherine, Mae, and Harper had the chance to meet. The girls, who all happen to be born three days in a row and each had major heart surgery at Boston Children's Hospital within a few months of being born, just celebrated their first birthdays - and sat for an adorable cake smash photo shoot with Nicole to celebrate.

"Meet our 'Three of Hearts,'" Nicole wrote in a post to her business's Facebook. "When we discovered that these heart warriors were all turning one the same week, we knew we had to do something special to celebrate!" The girls were photographed with individual birthday cakes in different colored tutus with - fittingly - heart garlands hanging all around.

"This was my first time doing a cake smash with three babies at once," Nicole told POPSUGAR. "You never know how a baby will react to their cake smash or to being in a photography studio, so I was prepared for three meltdowns! We lucked out, and the birthday girls were calm and happy almost the entire time. It was so incredible to watch them together, and each baby approached the cake in her own unique way. Harper (green tutu) really got into it and covered herself in frosting! Catherine (purple tutu) was much more hesitant and delicate, and Mae (pink tutu) was all smiles and kept leaning toward her cake, rocking her body back and forth like she was going to face plant because she was so eager to get a taste of that frosting!"

Although we can't get over how cute these photos turned out, Nicole explained what it was like to be behind the lens during the shoot that produced such sweet snaps.

I loved just stepping back and taking in the whole celebratory scene with their mothers looking on because it really was a miracle that all three babies were in that room together. It's truly been such an honor to work with so many families in the Down syndrome community, and I am excited to see what's ahead for Julia's Way! This organization just formed a few short months ago, and it's surreal to see how much they've accomplished already in terms of advocacy, education, and inspiration for parents of children with Down syndrome.

Ahead, see Cate, Mae, and Harper tear into their birthday cakes!

2017: The Year Everyone Else Figured Out What Harry Styles Fans Knew All Along

Harry Styles has long been one of my favorite people. Though he made some waves during his days in One Direction, since breaking out on his own, his star is quickly rising, and he's showing the world what we Harry fans have known since day one. He dropped an album that promptly soared to number one, sold out two worldwide tours, took over late-night TV, and even starred in a blockbuster movie. Everyone is catching on to his quick wit and endearing charm, and of course, taking notice of his unbelievable musical talent.

This year is shaping up to be the year of Harry Styles, and as a longtime fan, I can't even tell you how proud I am of this lovely, cherubic man who will always be the boy from The X Factor who used to be a baker. I'm excited for everyone else to finally catch on to what makes this Brit so special. Keep reading for a month-by-month recap of exactly what Harry has been up to and get ready, because this is just the beginning for him.

Glossier Debuts a Skin-Blurring Finishing Powder

A few weeks ago, several POPSUGAR employees were asked about their favorite beauty brands. Not surprisingly, almost everyone polled placed Glossier at the top of their list. Why? For starters, the packaging is great. Glossier has done a great job of establishing itself as the no-fuss, low-maintenance, "cool girl" beauty brand.

Plus, their products deliver. Stretch Concealer ($18) seemingly glides - or stretches, rather - across the skin for an invisible finish. Boy Brow ($16) gives you the full, thick brow your younger brother was blessed with. Their new launch, Wowder ($22, $35 with a finishing brush), is the brand's first finishing powder. It eliminates shine, diminishes the look of pores, and sets your makeup. It comes in three shades: light/medium, dark/deep, and rich. The last two cater to deeper skin tones, which notoriously struggle with finding a powder that doesn't appear chalky.

The brand kept the launch fairly low-key, offering a select few vloggers the opportunity to test out the product on their channels. The packaging was nondescript and disguised to keep its identity a secret. Vlogger Jackie Aina, known for her no-holds-barred opinions, expressed her surprise with how dark the powders look on the skin compared to their packaging. "When I first saw dark/deep, I automatically was like, 'This is going to be too light. Doesn't she [the product] give you a sand? Isn't she giving us a copper tan? Like a sandpaper?' Nope, I was wrong," said Jackie. "These powders are quite darker than they look."

Made with diamond powder, kaolin clay, and vitamin E, Wowder is meant to be lightweight, reflect light, and adapt to your skin tone. The clay helps with oil, the vitamin E makes it silky, and the diamond powder is what causes the light reflection. Plus, it's talc-free, which means you don't have to worry about a white cast or odd flashback in photos.

Will you pick up Wowder? Let us know in the comments.
