Another Doctor Is Leaving Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in Season 14 of Grey's Anatomy
Even though it feels like we just witnessed the season 13 finale of Grey's Anatomy, it's never too soon to look ahead. In the wake of everything that has happened, it's clear there are plenty of planted seeds that will surely bloom once the show returns in the Fall. Granted, Stephanie will no longer be with us, but with a few new faces, a couple of new flames, and that trademark drama we've always loved, there's plenty to look forward to. There isn't too much available information about the 14th season of Grey's, but we do have a few things figured out.
1. Owen's Sister Is Going to Cause All Kinds of Disruption
Owen's sister is alive! At the very end of the finale, Owen reconnects with his long-lost sibling, Megan. This could cause all kind of upheaval. It will certainly change Owen's entire life. Then there's Riggs, who was in love with Megan before she vanished. The timing is terrible: Meredith has just opened herself up romantically to Riggs, and now she risks losing him. Will Megan and Riggs be able to pick up where they left off?
There's also a chance Megan will join the ranks at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Once she recovers from the years of trauma, obviously. But if she does end up on the hospital staff, it'll be interesting to see what kind of ripple effect it has on everyone else.
2. Jackson and Maggie Might Get Together
And by "might" we mean "almost definitely." By the time the finale rolled around, the show had been dropping hints that Maggie and Jackson would pair up. Even in the last episode, April tells Maggie that she's pretty sure Jackson has feelings for her. The question is, will either of them act on it? Call us crazy, but we're still holding out hope for Japril.
3. Arizona Might Be Broken-Hearted All Over Again
Now that Minnick has been fired, there's a strong chance she's leaving Seattle. It seems like Arizona is about to have another wound to tend to - unless, for some strange reason, Minnick sticks around. We'll admit, we didn't exactly love Minnick, but it was nice to see Arizona happy!
4. We Probably Haven't Heard the Last of Jo's Husband
The storyline with Jo's husband, Paul Stadler (played by Glee's Matthew Morrison), has only heated more and more since we first found out. At the end of the season, Alex meets him in person but fails to follow through with any actual action. The thing is, the show wouldn't have put a face to the name unless we're going meet him again, and now we know for sure that he's returning. Morrison confirmed the news during an interview with The Argonaut in August, noting that he has "a big role" in the upcoming season.
5. Is There Hope For Owen and Amelia?
We caught a glimmer of love remaining between Owen and Amelia near the end of season 13 when they embrace and cry it out together in the elevator. Is there a chance Amelia is coming around? Could Owen's sister have softened his hard shell? It's absolutely possible.
6. A Character Is Leaving the Show
Say goodbye to Eliza Minnick. The doctor, who came on board as Arizona's love interest, is leaving Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital for good. Eliza (played by actress Marika Dominczyk) ruffled more than a few feathers during her time on the drama and ended up getting fired by Bailey in the season 13 finale, so her exit shouldn't come as too much of a shock.
7. The Schedule Is Just the Same as Always
ABC has already released the Fall TV lineup for 2017, and Grey's will continue to dominate the Thursday night spot.
8. The Premiere Date
The show has almost always kicked off the season near the end of September, so it should come as no surprise that the premiere date has been set for Sept. 28.
This Baby Bachelor in Paradise Spoof Will Make You Laugh For All the Wrong Reasons
Jimmy Kimmel is known for his intense love of The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and Bachelor in Paradise. The late-night host is so into the dating "reality" show that he usually has the couples come on his show during their whirlwind press tour following the final rose. But this week he decided to take things even further by creating his own show spinoff, Baby Bachelor in Paradise, ahead of the real reality show's season four premiere, and it's hilarious. Not only does the adorable cast feature signature Bachelor Nation personalities, including "the crazy one," but their professions are also enough to make you choke with laughter. For example, Alex, a 50-month-old vape shop owner, recently got out of prison for setting fire to a meth lab. We promise you won't regret pressing play.

Kate Middleton Had Very Specific Taste When It Came to Decorating the Family's Country Home
Anmer Hall is the 10-bedroom red brick Georgian property that was Kate Middleton's personal project for two years. It stands on the queen's Sandringham estate in Norfolk, and her majesty gifted it to William and Kate when they got married. After extensive refurbishments, the couple moved in along with Prince George and Princess Charlotte in 2015, and even after the family moves to Kensington Palace full-time later in the year, it will remain their country residence. So what did Kate do with her blank canvas? Architect Charles Morris worked on the remodeling and added a garden room, while interior designer Ben Pentreath oversaw the decor. He had previously worked with Kate's father-in-law Prince Charles and apparently coaxed Kate into being more experimental with color, encouraging her to go for an emerald green dining room. However, much of the rest of the home has a softer, more traditional vibe. See for yourself ahead.

7 Ways to Make Your Small Bathroom Feel Spacious
Designing a small bathroom can be challenging, especially if you are on a budget. The best way to make it more functional is to increase the floor space while allowing all the essentials to fit in the right way. Although renovating the entire bathroom according to your needs is a good option, it can be really expensive, mainly if you want to entirely change the plumbing. But if you are on a limited budget, you can still add a lot of space to make it more functional. Here are seven ways to do it!
Back to Basics - How to Reach Out to New Contacts and How to Politely Follow Up
Last May, I left my job and started my own production and digital strategy company. Ever since then, I get a lot of questions about how to initially reach out to new people or companies and how to follow up. Here are a few of my tips to expand your network!
On Initial Reach-Out
If there's a company you want to contact because you think you could work together or you think it's your dream company, go to LinkedIn first (if you're not on LinkedIn Premium, sign up for that first so you can send InMail, then keep reading).
First, find out if you know anyone who works there in any department and reach out (they'll eventually lead you to the right place; people love passing things off their inbox), or find a friend to introduce you to someone who works there. It is very important that you don't ask for or mention a job when reaching out unless you are vying for a specific position. This is just a research call, and nobody wants to feel like they're being hassled for a job. Also, nobody likes being pitched to over email unless they explicitly asked you to send a pitch. You want to establish some sort of friendly relationship first because people like to work with nice, capable people they can relate to, and after one initial informational meeting, that usually becomes YOU!
If you know no one, start at the top! Worker bees are probably going to be less interested in helping a fellow worker bee (just a fact of life), and it takes a lot of chutzpah to reach out to the top of the ladder, so people don't really do it. So try! And then work your way down.
Which reminds me - the most important tip in finding out what you want to do with the rest of your life, or even just your next project, is: do your research. So many people say to me "But (sigh) I don't know what I want to doooo." Guess what? You're not alone; most people don't, especially in this new landscape where positions and titles aren't as clear-cut as they used to be. So reach out to companies or people with specific job titles that interest you, have a meeting, find out what they do on a daily basis, and then decide if it's a job you might want to do. Informational meetings are not only great for figuring out your next step but also for building your network. You never know when what you're going to do in the future might cross with the random person you had coffee with on the roof of Petit Ermitage.
But back to reaching out! I recommend something like this:
In the subject line, mention your job title (Producer/Showrunner), and if you can, establish where you worked (for example, I worked at Condé Nast and POPSUGAR, so I write that).
In the body, write something like this: "Hi there, I wanted to see if I could chat with you and get a sense of the landscape at [where contact works]. I'm a [insert job title], formerly of [insert impressive workplace here], so I thought there might be some natural synergies there. Looking forward to hearing from you!" Then hit "send" and wait!
Which brings me to . . .
On Following Up
If you've done a LinkedIn InMail, I say you can wait two weeks to say, "Hi, just checking that you got this! Can't wait to chat." After that, you get no more immediate chances. If you really want to circle back a few months later, go for it (by that time their business plan might have changed and they might have a different outlook), but otherwise, find someone else at the company and go back to reaching out!
If you've gotten ahold of their email and sent one, you can wait one to two weeks to say, "Hi, just checking you've got this." After that, you must wait until you have information to add. Like, "Hi! I just wanted to circle back with you! I've just finished [enter fantastic project]. I look forward to meeting with you!" Then you A) don't seem desperate and B) are able to show off what you've been up to. Having work generates work, so showing off you're a hot commodity makes others want you. It's the same as dating - just apply it to clients!
Sometimes it can get frustrating feeling like people aren't getting back to you, but I promise you someone somewhere will circle back if you use these tips. And if they don't? Guess what: those are the clients/companies/people you don't want to date anyway. Someone else will surface in their place and snatch you up.
And just a tip from the other end . . . Sometimes I don't get back to someone right away because I don't need their services, but the second I need them, I get them on speed dial. I don't think this is necessarily the best behavior ever, but I think it's how a lot of people operate. My point is this: networking is less about someone having work for you right now and more about planting the seed so that when they do need your service, you come to top of mind. Which you will if you continue to follow up correctly!

Before Chris Pratt, Anna Faris Was Actually Married to Another Actor

Over the weekend, the couple announced their decision to legally separate after eight years of marriage, and needless to say, we are devastated. But the news also got us wondering about Anna's past loves. As it turns out, the Mom actress has only opened her heart up to one other man (that we know of). Keep reading to find out more about Anna's former flames.

This Intense Workout Will Get You the Body You Want
Not every workout has to be a no-holds-barred sweat fest, but we're not going to lie: those days when you crush it at the gym are the ones that are going to help you see results fast. So pound that pre-workout shake, and take this hour-long workout with you the next time you want an effective workout.
The intense workout is one of The Biggest Loser: Australia trainer Michelle Bridges's secrets for burning calories fast, and it's not for beginners. This particular workout from Michelle's book Total Body Transformation ($17) comes at weeks nine and 10 of her 12-week plan, so if you're new to the gym, then start off slow, modify, or try one of our beginner-friendly workouts instead. If you're up for a challenge, however, check out the workout below, learn the moves, print the workout, and get ready to burn calories and boost your metabolism.
To start, do a warmup: three minutes on the rowing machine, ending with a 500-meter (1/3-mile) sprint. Follow it up with 20 minutes on the treadmill (Michelle recommends 5 to 6 mph at 2 percent incline for 20 minutes or 10 minutes at 5 to 6 mph and 2 percent incline followed by 10 minutes at 3.5 mph at 12 percent incline.) Aim to get your heart rate up to 150 bpm by the end of your warmup. Then follow with these two circuits below, repeating each circuit three times. End with a cooldown stretch.
This workout is made for the gym, but you can modify any of these moves to suit the equipment you have at home (jog in place or use dumbbells in place of the barbell, for example).
Gendry Is 100% Returning to Game of Thrones This Season!
It's been one of our burning questions for the last couple seasons of Game of Thrones: where the hell is Gendry? And, of course, the follow-up: is he ever coming back? Now we know the answer is yes! During the big Game of Thrones premiere red carpet in July, the actor who plays Gendry, Joe Dempsie, showed up and walked the red carpet (looking very handsome, I might add). It could have been a somewhat subtle confirmation of his return, but he gave solid confirmation when he told The LA Times he's definitely back this season. His reaction to fans figuring out that he'd be back was positive: "Very fortunately, from what I've seen it's been nothing but interest and excitement and some quite witty memes."
Image Source: Getty / Jason LaVeris
Now, not only do we know the answer to if he's coming back, but also when his reappearance will go down. Although the huge leak at HBO that went down after someone hacked their data resulted in a number of released scripts and upcoming episode footage (which included some major spoilers for season seven's action-packed fourth episode, "The Spoils of War"), the information about Gendry's big return actually comes from IMDB. The page for next week's episode, "Eastwatch," initially included Dempsie's name, signaling that Gendry will be in episode five.
HBO must have picked up on the slip-up, because the page now has no mention of Dempsie or Gendry. If he does come back, though, it will be a welcome return, since we haven't seen the character since he was rowing away in season three's "Mhysa."

Parents Can Thank Vaccines For a Decrease in Ear Infections, Thank You Very Much
Ready for some incredible news? Ear infection rates in little kids have been at their lowest over the past 10 years, and the pneumococcal vaccine, which protects babies against the bacteria that causes them, may be responsible for the drop.
According to a study published in Pediatrics, the likeliness that your kid will come down with an ear infection has taken a serious nose dive over the past decade - and that's the biggest decease they've ever seen.
The study looked at 615 children between the ages of 6 months and 36 months over a 10-year span and documented how frequently they came down with a case of Acute Otitis Media, which is an ear infection. Researchers found that since the development of the pneumococcal vaccine in 2000, ear infection rates have been at their lowest. They also concluded that the most common time for your baby to suffer an ear infection is between 6 months and a year old.
And while that's definitely great to hear, similar to the influenza virus, the bacteria that causes an ear infection has been shifting to become more resistant to common antibiotics, like amoxicillin.
The pneumococcal vaccine is typically given to babies in four parts at 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, and between 12 to 15 months old.
Instagram Stories Might Become Even More Popular With This 1 Feature
The war for your content between Instagram and Snapchat stories just got a little more heated. Instagram announced a new way to reply to your friend's stories: with a photo or video, a feature that Snapchat currently doesn't have.
The new reply feature, available on both iOS and Android with the latest version of the app, is easy enough to use. Now, when you look at a friend's story, you'll see the familiar text box at the bottom, but with a camera icon to the left of it. Tap it to send a photo, video, or Boomerang reply to their Direct inbox.
In your reply, you can add stickers, face filters, and use the rewind feature. And if you're someone who forgets what they post to their story, your friend's reply will include a sticker of it. All replies in your Direct inbox will be highlighted in blue, so you'll know the difference between a regular message and someone replying to your story.
Just like regular direct messages, any reply sent to your friend will disappear after you see it. Screenshot their reply? Your friend will get a message that a screenshot was taken. Ahead, see how the new reply feature works.
I Was a MAC Pro For 11 Years, and This Is What It's Really Like to Work There
I worked for MAC Cosmetics for 11 years, and it was wonderful! I worked for them as a retail manager in both California and New York City. I was lucky enough to get the job even though I was a telephone operator with no prior experience! I just happened to love MAC and was at the counter at least twice a week. I often would do my friends' makeup at the counter, and a small group of customers would gather, the manager noticed and encouraged me to interview for a job, and boom! I got it and was hired as part of the management team. Makeup always came naturally, and I definitely had a huge passion for makeup and product. Here is what I learned being part of the MAC Pro team.
The Best Yoga Gear For All of Your Needs - and We Want It
If you've been showing up to your evening Vinyasa class in the same pair of workout tights you've been hanging onto for years, it might be time for an upgrade. Working out in ill-fitting gear is not only a distraction (pulling at the waistline, much?), but it might also actually be a mobility barrier if you're trying to work on flexibility - certain fabric works better than others for yoga. So whether you're a seasoned pro or total newbie, here are our favorite yoga pieces to wear right now.
I Made Dirt-Cheap Meals For a Week, and Here’s How I Survived
One day, while feeling particularly dismal about spending yet another $100 on groceries for the week in San Francisco, I read a post that forever changed my outlook on food expenditures: "This Story of How 1 Woman Saved $30,000 in 8 Months Will Motivate You (and Crack You Up!)." I laughed! I cried! It motivated me to get to work. While dumpster diving won't be my method of saving money on food, I had a profound realization: my fridge, pantry, and freezer probably contained enough food to feed me for "free" for at least several weeks, so I set out to only eat from items I already owned. The reserves lasted me well over a week, and in all honesty, I'm still working on clearing it out. Check yours and you'll likely discover an astonishing amount of food that's gathering dust and ice chips. Like me, you may have avoided this food for months. But, when I challenged myself to be creative, I came up with some tasty ways to straight-up survive off of it. You will too, once you read my tips.
12 Things You Should Know Before Traveling Across the Country on Amtrak
I have always fantasized about traveling across the country by train, so when my boyfriend suggested that we take Amtrak from San Francisco to New York City, I was all in. There have been many conversations around the web about what it's really like to take Amtrak for long trips, so I want to give you the most accurate and true depiction.
We decided to get a roomette for the first and longest leg of our travel on the California Zephyr. We had the small room from Emeryville (the Amtrak station right outside of San Francisco) to Chicago for two days and two nights. After a seven-hour stop in Chicago, we rode the remaining 17 hours of our journey to NYC in coach seats. In total, our tickets for two people came out to $772. Not bad considering we were traveling for three and a half days and our meals were included with the roomette.
To get all the details on what it's like to sleep, eat, and basically live in an Amtrak train while chugging across America, keep reading. There are lots of interesting details that will take you by surprise.
We Can't Stop Staring at Rachel Lindsay's 100K Neil Lane Engagement Ring
It finally happened on Bachelor Nation - Rachel Lindsay is officially engaged! Rachel, who was the show's first black Bachelorette, finally revealed that she found the man of her dreams in Bryan Abasolo. The romantic proposal took place at a castle in Spain and looked like a scene right out of a fairy tale.
While the picturesque background (and Rachel's beaded gown) was a sight for sore eyes, our heart basically stopped when we caught a glimpse of her engagement ring. For the happy occasion, Bryan chose a pear-shaped diamond ring by Neil Lane. The sparkly 3-carat ring cost over $100K and was accented with 80 diamonds. Have a look at the blinding ring ahead.
Charli XCX and Halsey's "Wannabe" Cover Is Basically Body Glitter in Song Form
What do you get when you mix Charli XCX, Halsey, and Lollapalooza? An incredible cover of Spice Girls' "Wannabe," that's what. The duo took the stage at Chicago's annual music festival on Sunday, where they surprised fans with a (fire) interpretation of the classic 1996 anthem. We realize Halsey and Charli XCX are both busy with their solo careers, but this song is proof that we need the two of them to form a girl group, ASAP (maybe CupcakKe can be the final member?). Grab some body glitter and the nearest tube of Lip Smackers, and then check out their cover above.
Matthew McConaughey's Dazed and Confused Audition Is Everything You Want It to Be
Let us not forget: before Matthew McConaughey creeped us out in True Detective, charmed us in a slew of romantic comedies, and took home an Academy Award, he starred in a little coming-of-age film called Dazed and Confused. In celebration of The Criterion Collection's release of the 1993 Richard Linklater film, the company released Matthew's epic audition tape. It's everything you want it to be, as he completely embodies Texan slacker Dave Wooderson and delivers two of his infamous lines: "It'd be a lot cooler if you did" and "That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older - they stay the same age." Watch the video above now, and be prepared to crack a huge smile.

This Leaf-Clearing Hack Will Make You Throw Out Your Rakes - For Good
You might think raking leaves is a relatively simple - albeit tedious and annoying - Autumn task, but it turns out there's a way to make raking leaves even simpler and far more efficient.
And it doesn't even include a rake at all - just a piece of cardboard.
Using a large, flat, sturdy section of cardboard, simply push the leaves, snowplow-style, in lines across the yard until they form one big heap. It almost seems like there must be a catch, but check out the video below and you'll see that as long as the leaves are dry, it really is this straightforward (even Bob Vila recommends this tactic!). "Cardboarding" leaves may not become your favorite autumnal pastime ever, but at least this dreaded chore just got a little less, well, dreadful.
The Jump Rope and Strength-Training HIIT Workout You've Been Waiting For
Don't be fooled into thinking you need a gym full of equipment to get a tough workout under your belt. All you really need is a jump rope and your own body to get a sweat on, as proved to us by celebrity trainer and fitness expert Amanda Kloots. She created an HIIT workout for POPSUGAR that incorporates both jump rope cardio and bodyweight strength training. No dumbbells required. And the best part is it takes less than half an hour!
The Workout
- Start with a jump rope warmup.
- Go through circuit one, which focuses on your abs.
- Repeat the jump rope warmup, only this time it will serve as your cardio segment.
- Go through circuit two, which is all about the legs.
- Repeat the jump rope cardio segment one more time.

If You're Eating Protein to Lose Weight, This Is How Much You Need Per Meal
Experts are pushing the protein when it comes to weight loss, and for good reason, because it regulates your appetite and satiates hunger. But if loading up on tons of protein is your main focus at mealtimes, you might be getting more than you need.
Certified dietitian Leslie Langevin, MS, RD, CD, of Whole Health Nutrition says to aim for "no more than 20 to 30 grams of protein at each meal." This is in line with the CDC's recommendation for women ages 19 to 70 to get an average of 46 grams of protein per day. But since everyone's weight and activity level matter, this handy chart should help you determine exactly how much protein you need in a day.
So why only 20 to 30 grams at each meal? If you've heard that eating more protein is better for weight loss, it's true, but Leslie says, "The body can only absorb 20 to 30 grams at one time. Eating this amount of protein is a good target per meal because that will help with satiety and be the max your body can absorb at the meal for muscle repair." This leaves room for the other nutrients your body needs. For the perfect weight-loss meal, you always want to combine your protein with carbs for sustained energy and both fiber and healthy fats to keep you feeling fuller longer.
So there's no need to eat scrambled eggs with your morning protein smoothie. And Leslie says you definitely don't want to focus on just animal protein. Plant-based protein like legumes, leafy greens, whole grains, nuts, and soy products offer fiber and are necessary for everyone to "help reduce heart disease, cancer, and can help with weight control."

I Have Worn the Same $3 Liquid Eyeliner For 10 Years, and It Gets Me So Many Compliments
I'm a girl who likes to wear a sharp, inky-black cat eye on the regular. There's something about it that makes me feel both powerful and glamorous, so I have made it my go-to look since my teenage years. Time after time, friends, coworkers, and strangers have asked me the same question: "What eyeliner do you use?" There's nothing that brings me more joy than smugly telling them it's a $3 pick from the drugstore. Yes, I have been religiously swiping Wet n Wild MegaLiner Liquid Eyeliner on my lids for 10 years now, and I don't plan on stopping any time soon.
Before you become skeptical, know that I have tried my fair share of liquid liners. I am always curious to see if any high-end or drugstore brands can match the quality of my Wet n Wild pick, but they never do. MegaLiner Liquid Eyeliner comes in a small tube with a screw-top handle. The applicator, a flexible spongy brush, is easy to maneuver as I glide it across my skin. The harder you press, the thicker the line becomes, so you have a lot of control over the intensity of your look. The formula itself is smooth and matte. Its raven-black shade makes my blue eyes pop. All it takes is one coat to get a pleasing obsidian-dark effect.
For me, pen-tip applicators and pots with angle brushes don't give me the razor-sharp line I'm looking for. Only MegaLiner provides me with that smooth edge - I won't accept anything less. What can I say, a good cat eye has become a passion. It's time to set down your pricey choice and give my favorite a try. I can confidently promise you that it won't disappoint.
Let's be real, a $3 purchase is not a big risk to take. Even better - it's currently on sale for $2. I keep one in every purse I own. Read on to see close-ups of the liner itself and how it looks once it's applied.
Game of Thrones: Here's Your Referesher on Ser Rodrik
It's a pretty great time for those of us rooting for House Stark. Arya is back in Winterfell! Nearly all the surviving Starks have reunited! Of course, in true Game of Thrones fashion, the road to that point hasn't been an easy one. Even at the castle gates, Arya can't seem to catch a break. Since she's been gone for so long that she's presumed dead, the guards up front won't let her pass. One of the ways she attempts to bypass them is by telling them to fetch some important Winterfell folk who can confirm her identity, such as Ser Rodrik. But who is Ser Rodrik, anyway?
Ser Rodrik Cassel is a knight, Winterfell's Master-at-Arms and primary military adviser. He trains the likes of Robb, Theon, and Jon in combat. In season one, he plays a pretty vital role, as he identifies the dagger that nearly kills Bran as Valyrian steel. He then escorts Catelyn to King's Landing to get down to the bottom of the assassination, helps her kidnap Tyrion, and joins in when people start hailing Robb as King in the North.
When Arya mentions Ser Rodrik to the guards in the present, they tell her that nobody by that name is in Winterfell. That's because he meets a grim fate in "The Old Gods and the New," when Theon claims the castle for himself and his family name. Present in Winterfell to keep Bran and Rickon safe while every other Stark is away, Rodrik tries his hardest to do just that during the Greyjoy siege. Unfortunately, Theon captures him as part of a trap that leaves the castle defenseless. Initially, he simply wants to throw Rodrik in the dungeon, but his men urge him to make his former trainer "pay the iron price." Ser Rodrik tells an upset Bran that he's "off to see [his] father" and delivers a sick burn as his final words to Theon before his execution.
While that's the last time we see the Ser Rodrik that we were introduced to, we technically see him again in Bran's Greensight visions. We see a younger version of him training Ned and Benjen as boys in "Home," and when a young Hodor suffers from a seizure in "The Door." Those flashbacks illustrate that he's very important to the Starks and has been training them for quite sometime. But now that he's sadly gone, perhaps Winterfell could use a new, capable Master-at-Arms. Maybe Arya and Brienne, resident badasses, are up to the task?
This Is Exactly What You Need to Eat For Breakfast to Lose Weight
Did you know you can use the first meal of the day as a tool to lose weight? Want to know how? We've enlisted the expertise of two nutritionists - Stephanie Clarke, RD, and Willow Jarosh, RD, of C&J Nutrition - to share the perfect equation for how to make a scrumptious and satisfying breakfast that will help you lose weight. Follow their advice below to start seeing results.
Calories
Aim for a range between 300 and 400 calories. If you're trying to lose weight, stick with the 300 to 350 range, and if you're trying to maintain weight, especially if you're working out, shoot closer to 350 to 400 calories.
Carbs
About 45 to 55 percent of your breakfast calories should be devoted to carbs, which is about 40 to 55 grams of carbs. Skip sugary and overly processed foods or those made with enriched white flour, and choose whole grains, fruits, and veggies.
Protein
About 15 to 20 percent of your breakfast calorie amount should be protein, which works out to about 13 to 20 grams. Getting enough protein at breakfast is important for keeping you satisfied throughout the morning. And studies have shown that getting at least 20 grams of protein at breakfast may help you lose weight as well. Eggs, dairy products, soy milk, protein powder in smoothies, nuts and seeds, and whole grains are great sources of protein.
29 Hacks For Weight-Loss Success
Fats
Shoot for about 10 to 15 grams, which is about 30 to 35 percent of your total breakfast calories. Instead of saturated fats like bacon and cheese, go for monounsaturated fats (MUFAs) like olive oil, nuts and seeds and the butters made from them, and avocado.
Fiber
Aim for about 25 percent of your recommended daily total of 25 grams per day. That works out to about six grams, but it's OK to go above that, as long as it doesn't bother your digestive system. Berries, pears, apples, greens and other veggies, nuts, seeds, and whole grains can help you reach that goal.
Sugars
If you follow the equation for carbs above, then you won't have to worry about going overboard on sugars, especially if you're eating a combination of foods like fruits, whole grains, and dairy products. But for a ballpark number to keep in mind, stick to 36 grams or fewer. And when it comes to added sugar, try not to exceed six grams - that's about 1.5 teaspoons' worth of any sweetener (white sugar, brown sugar, maple syrup, honey, or agave).
Timing
Ideally you should eat breakfast within 30 to 60 minutes of waking up. If you're not keen on eating anything big first thing, split this meal up into two parts, having something light close to waking up and the other half about an hour and a half later. This also works well if you're a morning exerciser and prefer not to have a full stomach while you work out. If you're exercising, you can aim to have the more carbohydrate-based portion of your breakfast (fruit, toast, etc.) prior to working out and the more protein-centric portion afterward.
A Few Examples of Perfect Breakfasts
- Steel Cut Oats With Fruit and Nuts: Steel cut oats not only have more fiber than an equal amount of rolled oats, but they also have more protein since you're eating more of the original grain. Cook one-half cup steel cut oats in a mixture of one-half cup water and one-half cup unsweetened soy milk. Top with one-half cup blueberries, one tablespoon chopped walnuts, and one teaspoon drizzle of maple syrup.

This is easy to split - have half of the smoothie before your workout, then have the rest plus the egg after the workout.

Breakfast Mistakes to Avoid
- Skipping out: When you sleep, your body slows down while you're not eating. So when you wake up, if you don't break the fast (yup, that's where the name comes from), your body will burn calories slowly. To jump-start your metabolism and get your body burning calories, you need to eat. Not fueling up also deprives your brain of glucose, which is why you feel foggy-headed and cranky. Think of breakfast as an opportunity to get your fill of valuable nutrients such as calcium, iron, and vitamin C.
- Skimping: You know skipping breakfast entirely is a no-no, but not eating enough will also backfire. It'll leave you feeling hungry soon after eating, which will cause you to need more food and can translate to more calories consumed over the course of the entire day. Stick to the formula above, and you'll not only feel satisfied longer, but you'll also have more energy for the workouts that can make you drop pounds even faster.
- Imbalanced meal: Leaving out a key component of the breakfast formula such as avoiding all carbs or going too heavy, such as having an all-protein meal, means you're not going to get enough satisfaction or nutrition from this first meal. Following the formula above will allow you to eat a balanced meal while also helping you see weight-loss results.

Jennifer Lawrence's Mother! Will Disturb You on So Many Levels
If you thought the poster for Jennifer's Lawrence psychological thriller Mother! was creepy, just wait until you see the full trailer. Lawrence's character attempts to "breathe new life" into her home before strange things start happening when she and her husband (Javier Bardem) let unexpected guests stay over. We're talking actual blood dripping from the walls, people. Are the hallucinations all in her head, or is it something else entirely? Since the film's writer and director, Darren Aronofsky - who is dating Lawrence in real life - is the same person responsible for Black Swan, we can only imagine what's in store. Catch the trailer above before it hits theaters on Sept. 15.
20 People Who Are Mad as Hell About Rachel Lindsay's Pick on The Bachelorette
Fans of The Bachelorette waited weeks on end for the highly anticipated finale of Rachel Lindsay's dramatic season, but the 32-year-old attorney's final rose went to someone some audience members weren't expecting: Bryan. To a good chunk of Bachelor Nation, it seemed obvious that Rachel had fallen in love with the other final contestant and fan favorite, Peter, but since he wouldn't propose (he felt they still needed time to get to know each other after only two months), Bryan was the one to get down on one knee. Although Rachel seems truly happy with her choice, it didn't stop Bachelorette fans from airing their (hilarious) grievances with the finale on Twitter.

9 Things That Probably Happen at Dinner With Your Latinx Family
Growing up, I couldn't understand how families sat around the dinner table together for a meal, because every time I looked at my family I couldn't fathom all of us fitting in one table. I mean that literally - there are a lot of us.
Instead, we had paper plates piled with a combination of everyone's favorites and we rotated between the aunts, who had stories to share and were camped on the couch, and the cousins, who only wanted to talk about games and were in someone's bedroom. The food was buffet style and it was on a first-come, first-served basis, which means everyone was up at the table as soon as abuela set the plates down to try and get the best food while it was still warm.
While the scene is at times chaotic, the experience is one nothing else could match. Keep reading for the nine things that most likely happen every time your family gets together for a meal.
Emily Ratajkowski Just Wore the Pair of Shoes You'd Never Expect to See With Track Pants
Emily Ratajkowski marched right into the Jimmy Kimmel Live studio in a very bold look. Once she arrived, she might have changed into a printed silk dress, but before that, it was all casual separates - capped off with a pair of white patent booties. An unexpected shoe choice, we know, but Emily made it work, baring her midriff in a slashed crop top that she met with Adidas joggers.
Perhaps all the gold jewelry helped to complement and play up Emily's fancy feet, which definitely stood out against sweats. Nevertheless, we're now thinking of trying the combination out for ourselves. Just tuck a pair of sporty tapered pants into your '80s style boots, and you're ready to go. It's a pretty good Summer-to-Fall transitional outfit for when you're running errands, no?
If You Try to Figure Out the Mistake in This Math Problem, It'll Make You Go Crazy
Not all math problems are meant to be solved - some are here just to watch the world burn and make people question everything they ever learned in school. And while some problems have different solutions, others have answers that don't deal with numbers at all, like a Facebook post asking people to find a math mistake.
The photo, shared by Facebook user Antley Lamont Staten, shows a photo of a man holding up two sheets of paper. One paper has the numbers 1-9 written on it. The other paper asks people to share when you find the mistake. Try to solve it for yourself below:
Did you groan? Or are you trying to figure out what the issue is with the numbers? The answer is on the paper to the left - the man spelled "mistake" wrong. The post has clearly struck a nerve, considering it has more than 100,000 reactions, 800,000 shares, and plenty more comments.
Sometimes the answer really is simple and requires no math at all.

Gigi Hadid's New Styling Trick Makes Outfit Planning a Whole Lot Easier
This Summer, Gigi Hadid has been spending plenty of time in New York, showing off a slew of new outfits. We've noticed that those outfits include some essentials, like her Stalvey top-handle bag (she owns the design in multiple colorways and textures), ultrabright sunglasses, and statement pants. But Gigi plays a trick with these items. In order to come up with the foundation of her look, she matches at least two of her pieces every time.
Perhaps we can credit the move to her new stylist, Mimi Cuttrell, or maybe this game of mixing and matching was all Gigi's idea. Either way, we're on board with trying it out for ourselves: just coordinate your sunglasses with your shades, bag, or that flash of color on your boots, finish with neutral separates, and - voilà! - you've got Gigi's signature down to a science. Read on to see how it's done.
Giada De Laurentiis Reveals the 1 Surprising Ingredient She Adds to Pasta
Celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis is known for celebrating her Italian heritage through her cooking. So naturally, she was the perfect woman to host the New York Wine and Food Festival's Italian Table event in New York City.

I caught up with her inside the Giada Vegas booth to chat about pasta, the importance of learning how to cook "lemon spaghetti" (which somehow sounds so much more enticing when she says it with her Italian accent), and the basic supplies to keep stocked for quality Italian fare. Giada's booth was swarmed with crowds all night long, where she was busy personally handing out her delicious muffuletta sandwich to throngs of devoted fans. Seriously, I'll be thinking about that sandwich for at least the rest of the week.

On the 5 Staples She Thinks Everybody Should Keep Stocked in Their Pantry

On Her Favorite Go-To Breakfast on Busy Days
"I do brown rice, with olive oil and salt. I like a carb for breakfast, and I like a savory breakfast. If you start your day with sugar, you're jacked for the rest of the day. I get up really early in the morning, so I need a carbohydrate. So I'll do 1/4 cup of brown rice, with warm olive oil and salt. At my restaurant I do oatmeal, olive oil, salt, and marcona almonds for protein."

Why Littlefinger Giving Bran That Dagger Is Actually Really F*cked Up
Another cherished and seemingly important weapon is (re)introduced on tonight's episode of Game of Thrones during Littlefinger's short exchange with Bran. As the two sit down to talk, Littlefinger gifts Bran with a dagger that holds a great amount of significance to him. But Lord Baelish isn't the only person to whom the gift is important; the somewhat questionable gift is actually used during an attempt to murder Bran back in season one.
To jog your memory a little, Joffrey basically puts a hit out on Bran after discovering that he survives the fall from the window that Jaime pushes him out of. But when one of his men arrives in Winterfell to kill Bran while he's in a coma, Catelyn intercepts him, and the assassin is later taken out by Bran's direwolf, Summer.
The dagger that we see Littlefinger give to Bran this week is the same weapon that the hitman wields during his attempt to kill the mother and son. Of course, receiving a weapon that has previously been used during an attempt on your own life as a gift doesn't exactly seem ideal, but Littlefinger justifies it by telling Bran that the dagger is sort of a catalyst for all of the events that have transpired on the show to date - and he isn't exactly wrong. Had it not been the two attempts on Bran's life, Game of Thrones would probably be a completely different show right about now.
Another thing that should be noted in terms of the dagger is that it's made of Valyrian steel, which is one of two materials we know of that is able to kill White Walkers. Jon Snow and the Northerners are gearing up for a fight with the White Walkers that's set to occur any day now. So when that day comes, it's likely that the dagger will prove itself useful. But, for now, we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
The 1 Kitchen Cabinet Style That Gives You the Most Bang For Your Buck
Source: Studio McGee
During POPSUGAR's many interviews with HGTV design stars, house-flipping experts, and interior designers, one type of kitchen cabinet keeps coming up again and again: shaker. The message from our home pros is clear: resale-conscious homeowners should eschew expensive, stylized, and ornate cabinets in favor of simple yet sturdy shaker cabinets at a lower price point. The reason? With their versatile style, mass buyer appeal, and reasonable price point, these cabinets give the biggest bang for the buck. Once we realized how great shaker cabinets are, we were curious to know more. Check out what we learned below.
What exactly are shaker cabinets?
They are unadorned flat-panel wood cabinets with a signature recessed rail frame, originally made from pine but today often of maple, cherry, or hickory. The term "shaker" references the Christian denomination that became known for making extremely high-quality, functional, minimalist furniture. The term "shaker" also references the no-frills design and wood build of this cabinet style.
Why are they so popular?
Beyond a good price point and solid construction (two major pluses), shaker cabinets can be easily painted, stained, and gussied up with hardware to look on-trend in many different styles of homes. With a warm, natural wood finish, they look great in a traditional home, while grey or white-washed shaker cabinets are a page out of contemporary-farmhouse-originator Joanna Gaines's design book. And with a dark or glossy finish, they look sleek in a modern home. With so many style options, it's hard to find a home they don't look great in.

A Llama, Bagel, and New Poop Emoji Might Be Coming in 2018
While the world still waits for this year's new emoji to arrive on our phones, the Unicode Consortium has released a list of new emoji candidates for 2018. The list includes fun animals like a llama and kangaroo and much needed food emoji like a bagel and cupcake. Best of all, it looks like the poop emoji could get an upgrade.
The full list, announced on Aug. 3, includes 67 possible new emoji. As you can see above, new emoji faces like party face, cold face, and feeling loved are under consideration.
Previously announced emoji, like the redhead emoji, are still on the list. Other hair emoji, such as the ones ahead, "will be confirmed at a later date," according to Emojipedia.
As mentioned, the biggest change involves the beloved poop emoji. It's not going away; it just may gain a counterpart - the frowning pile of poo emoji.
Check out the full list of proposed emoji over on Emojipedia. And keep in mind that it isn't all set in stone; the Unicode Consortium might add or remove some emoji before the final candidate list is revealed in October.
