This 21-Year-Old Artist Turns Body "Flaws" Into Beautiful Rainbow Art

Cinta Tort Catró, who also goes by the name Zinteta, is a 21-year-old artist from Barcelona who is not only is taking the art world by storm, but is also using her talents to protest sexism. She highlights her inspiring artwork on her Instagram account, where she's leading a conversation about body "flaws." By filling in her subjects' stretch marks and painting rainbow period stains, Cinta is beautifying the things women are frequently told to change or feel embarrassed about.

"I have not always felt comfortable with my period and stretch marks. Overall, I have not always felt secure with my body," Cinta told POPSUGAR, sharing that her own past of feeling ashamed over her own figure heavily inspired her work. "Over the years, and after internal reflection, I saw that if I did not accept anything [about] my body - hair, stretch marks - I could never love or accept me."

Cinta's projects, which she calls "artivism" (art + activism), all explore topics like feminism and anti-racism. "I try to break these injustices," she said, "When I make my art it's for me, to show what's affecting me on the inside. I like that I can reach other people and they are reflecting, it's a precious process."

As for her most recent works focused on rainbow stretch marks and menstruation, she aims to show that "all bodies are equally valuable." She continued, "It's very important to me that people are conscious that we are all different, that our bodies are different, but everyone has beauty and their own essence. We need to fight against the aesthetic pressure and accept once and for all that we are different and in diversity, there is richness."

Read on to see some of Cinta's beautiful artwork, and let her beautiful work encourage you to love what makes you unique.

As Sports Illustrated's Curviest Model, Hunter McGrady Knows Sexy Suits All Sizes

You've seen Hunter McGrady everywhere - the 23-year-old model has been named the "curviest" model to grace Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Issue. (Those body paint photos aren't easy to forget. Hubba hubba!) Hunter started modeling at 16, coming from a long lineage of models in her family - her mother, grandmother, and aunt were models; her father is an actor. But after being told she was too big at a size two, she took a hiatus from the industry for a few years. She's now a part of Wilhelmina International's Curve division and has appeared in campaigns for Lane Bryant.

Being a plus-size model has its challenges, first being the term "plus-size," according to Hunter.

"A size six, in New York, on a modeling board, would be considered plus-size. Fourteen is what really works in the plus-size industry, but it starts at six; I mean, that's insane," Hunter said. It's problematic that "regular sizes" are limited to zero, two, and four, especially when research shows that 67 percent of women in America are size 16-18. "That's 17 percent more than half the population," Hunter reiterated. "So why is it just now becoming such a big thing?"

The term "plus-size" also has a connotation that Hunter feels separates her from other models, when the reality is the only difference is her size. "I would love to just be called a model. I think that labeling plus-size, curve, full-figure, whatever it is . . . I understand that some people need that clarification," Hunter said. "For me, I'm just a model. I show up, I do the same job as everyone else, I get paid the same, everything is the same. You wouldn't say, 'size zero model so-and-so.'"

Further, people tend to think being a curve model means having fewer restrictions or, according to some of the comments on a version of this video that appeared on Facebook, that curve models are "unhealthy."

"I think people think that we can get away with looking however we want. They're like, 'Whatever, she's a curve model. She doesn't have to work out, she doesn't have to eat well.' Which isn't true. I have a personal trainer, I eat clean. But on the other spectrum, there is a pressure to have the Coke bottle body, to be really tight. Someone's always going to want you to be thicker," Hunter said.

This German Bride's Sheer Wedding Gown Is Royal Approved Thanks to 1 Small Detail

When you're marrying a prince, the pressure is on to find a wedding gown that's royally appropriate but still fashionable. Think modest with a twist. Franziska Balzer most likely kept this in mind when she married Prince Maximilian zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg of Germany. The bride chose a cream-colored gown with a sheer lace bodice that might have been revealing by a royal's standard, but Franziska made one smart decision: she decided to pair a matching three-quarter-sleeved blazer with her floor-grazing ensemble, keeping her shoulders and arms covered.

This understated addition is the element of elegance we've come to expect from princesses like Kate Middleton, who wore a lace-sleeved gown to her own ceremony. Franziska found the perfect marriage between sexy and tasteful with her ladylike cover-up, and it's a trick all brides can borrow for their big day. Read on to see how she pulled off the look, then shop similar bridal accessories in our ultimate wedding guide.

4 Reasons the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland Paris Is the Creepiest of Them All

Some argue that the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland is hands down the best ride in the park. While it definitely is a top contender, there's another Haunted Mansion in one of the sister locations that out-creeps the attraction in the Anaheim park by far.

The one at Disneyland Paris is actually called Phantom Manor, the only version that has a completely different name and appearance compared to the original and its global copycats. There is the exception of Hong Kong Disneyland's Mystic Manor, but it has a totally separate theme (exotic museum) from the rest, so it doesn't count.

Phantom Manor is definitely darker and spookier on every level, making it another great reason to visit Disneyland Paris. See four reasons ahead.

33 Sure Signs That You're an Empath

Do you pick up on the vibe of a room the moment you walk in? Can you almost always tell when someone is lying? Do you just generally have A LOT of feelings? You're probably an empath. You may be familiar with the spectrum of personality types between introverts and extroverts, but empaths are a whole other type of personality you may not know about. Empaths are often (but not always) more introverted, but the key aspect of the personality type is an empath's ability to relate to and absorb the feelings of other people. Empaths are extremely sensitive to their surroundings, and they are very affected by the energies of those around them.

There are positives to being an empath; for instance, they are sympathetic, caring, and understanding. They are intuitive and have the ability to influence the mood and energy around them. Empaths are good listeners and caretakers, and they are known for their compassion for others. However, being an empath definitely has its challenges. Because they are so sensitive, they can sometimes have difficulty differentiating other people's energy from their own. Commercials, movies, books, TV, the news, seeing the struggles of others - anything with an emotional element can affect empaths on a deeper level. Outside circumstances and situations can have a huge impact on the mental - and even physical - state of an empath. Empaths can unconsciously mirror other people's habits and moods, and for better or worse, they can soak up the energy around them. Empaths need to make sure to care for themselves in addition to caring for the rest of the world. Here are some signs you're an empath.

  13. Being around certain people can make you feel drained.
  14. You feel physically or emotionally sick when seeing upsetting things in the news, on TV, or in movies.
  15. Your mood changes depending on who you're in a room with.
  16. You feel the same feeling around a specific person each time you see them.
  17. You have a big heart.

5 Out-of-This-World Places to See the Northern Lights

Long before all the high-tech lighting effects and lasers, Mother Nature has been putting on a light show of her own - and it's spectacular. The aurora borealis - often referred to as the northern lights - is a celestial display of brightly colored lights shimmering and rippling across the night sky. Since they typically can only be seen above the Earth's magnetic poles, northern lights chasers will usually have to brave some pretty extreme terrains to catch a glimpse of the show.

Lucky for us, there are some sensational accommodations that, while a bit of a trek to get to, provide luxury amenities that will keep you cozy and comfortable while you enjoy the view. Be sure to pack for the occasion, because you will likely find yourself in subzero temperatures and, if you're feeling exceptionally brave, even sleeping in a house made of ice and snow.

13 Undeniable Traits of an INFJ Personality Type

When I first read about my personality type, I felt like someone had written the description as a personal letter to me. Every word hit the nail on the head and actually helped me understand myself better than ever before. I'm an INFJ, the most rare Myers Briggs type, making up less than one percent of the population. INFJs are "the advocates," with unique strengths and weaknesses that only others who share our type can truly understand. We're contradictory and compassionate, intuitive but also private and sometimes oversensitive. If you're an INFJ, you will be able to relate to these 13 traits the personality type has.

  1. You're a helper. INFJs are helpers who fight for what they believe in and who work to ensure the well-being and equality of others. They have strong convictions and an instinct for understanding people. However, INFJs need to remember to take of themselves, too. Their dedication to the causes they feel most passionate about is one of their greatest strengths, but it can also leave them exhausted and stressed if they forget to practice self-care.
  2. You are a private person. Trust doesn't always come that easily to INFJs, and they are generally very private about their personal lives. "A well-developed INFJ knows how to stay well emotionally, physically, and spiritually," says Rachel Green, director of The Emotional Intelligence Institute. "This means they know when they need to take private time to recharge their batteries but they don't stay there. They also know they have to have stimulation from the outer world and to socialize. So they develop a healthy balance between the two."
  3. You're extremely good at reading people. Don't try to get anything past an INFJ - they are like human lie detectors. "INFJs are known for their abilities to read people with uncanny accuracy," says Green.
  4. You're a perfectionist. INFJs tend to be overachievers, sometimes to a fault. They don't do anything halfway, but this perfectionism has its downsides. "INFJs too often drop or ignore healthy and productive situations and relationships, always believing there might be a better option down the road," says 16 Personalities. This perfectionism can also lead to burnouts if INFJs aren't careful.
  5. You're very creative. If someone has a problem, INFJs will find the solution. They are creative thinkers, which is one of their greatest strengths. "Combining a vivid imagination with a strong sense of compassion, INFJs use their creativity to resolve not technical challenges, but human ones," says 16 Personalities.
  6. You're compassionate. You tend to "catch" the feelings of others. INFJs are often empaths, meaning they have the ability to relate to and absorb the feelings of other people. They are extremely compassionate and are often caregivers. Not only do INFJs care deeply about the people they have allowed into their lives, but they care about the state of the world at large.
  7. You can be oversensitive. "When someone challenges or criticizes INFJs' principles or values, they are likely to receive an alarmingly strong response," says 16 Personalities. INFJs are vulnerable to criticism and do not like to be involved in conflict - though they will engage, if they feel strongly about the subject of the conflict.
  8. You're an idealist. INFJs see the world they think it should be, and they believe it's possible to improve it. They're idealists, but not "idle dreamers." INFJs don't just dream about a better world; their characteristic determination leads them to go out and make it so.
  9. You're both emotional and logical. INFJs are an interesting combination of traits. They are capable of being level-headed and logical, but allow their emotions to play a factor in their decision-making as well. This means that INFJs' actions reflect a unique combination of wisdom and gut feelings.
  10. It's all or nothing for you. INFJs don't waste their time on people or situations if they are not genuine. If they don't see a relationship going anywhere, or if something doesn't enrich their lives, they have no problems cutting it out completely. INFJs want authenticity in everything, and if it they aren't able to find it, they don't want any part of it.
  11. You hate small talk. Not only do INFJs have an aversion to inauthentic relationships, they also hate surface-level conversation. This personality type wants to get down to important stuff, and quickly, without wasting time on pointless details. That being said, INFJs are actually gifted with language. They are often creative writers and are able to put onto paper what they can't (or won't) put into words.
  12. You're determined. Strong-willed, opinionated, and determined - INFJs don't back down if they care about something, and the combination of passion and persistence is a strength that makes the personality type stand out and get things done.
  13. You're all about the big picture. INFJs are deep thinkers who often reflect both on themselves and the world around them. They are able to see an end goal and seek out the "meaning" behind everything.

These Bath Bomb Tattoos Prove That Lush Is a Lifelong Obsession

Anyone who has tried one of Lush's effervescent, aromatic bath bombs knows how incredibly addictive they can be. Similarly, many people with tattoos report that after getting their first ink, they become preoccupied with acquiring more and more designs on their bodies. Now a group of Lush employees (known as Lushies!) in the Lancaster, PA, area are combining the two obsessions with magical results.

Lushie Brittney Minor and eight members of her "Lush family" all decided to permanently declare their love for their employer. "One shift, we were talking about how much the brand has had an impact on us," she explained. "I mentioned I wanted to get a tattoo to celebrate, and they all jumped at the idea." A tattoo artist friend of Brittney's, Shelby Golob of Blackthorn Gallery in Camp Hill, PA, agreed to ink them all.

The crew opted to get a wide range of Lush-themed masterpieces, including the brand's "fighting animal testing" symbol, sprigs of lavender, and, of course, bath bombs. Brittney shared the finished works in one of Lush's private Facebook groups and received major support from other employees. "I was overwhelmed by the 'likes' and comments from Lushies across North America saying how they now want to get Lush tattoos, too," she said.

Not only are we dying to get an inside look at that private Lush group, but we're pretty positive that this group of nine Lushies aren't the first to get tattoos inspired by the brand - and we want to see them all! Read on to see all the awesome ink, but don't be surprised if it inspires a Lush shopping spree, inking sesh, or both.

Game of Thrones: Everything You Should Know About Valyrian Steel Weapons and Who Owns Them

During Sunday night's insane episode of Game of Thrones, Arya Stark acquires a very important new weapon from her brother Bran. The dagger, which has a distinctly curved hilt made from dragonbone, is significant for a number of reasons: it's the same weapon an assassin used when trying to kill Bran back in season one (which ended up basically starting the War of the Five Kings), it was recently spotted by Samwell Tarly in an ancient Citadel textbook, and it's also made from extremely rare Valyrian steel.

Quick recap: what is Valyrian steel? Valyrian steel is a very special material from which the best weapons in Westeros are forged (the material is rumored to have been created from dragon fire and magic). The weapons made from this material are sharper, lighter, and stronger in comparison to even the best castle-forged steel, and they can also withstand extreme heat (obviously). Not to mention, Valyrian steel is one of the few things besides dragonglass that can kill White Walkers. Valyrian blades are treated as treasured heirlooms, and each weapon has its own name and story.

Sadly, these weapons are near impossible to forge in present-day Westeros; however, in post-Red Wedding season three, we see Tywin Lannister melt down Ice (the greatsword of House Stark) into two smaller swords. So, where in the world of Westeros are these Valyrian steel weapons now? Luckily they're (mostly) in good hands.

Who Is Jennifer Lawrence Dating? Get All the Details on Her Under-the-Radar Relationship

Jennifer Lawrence is currently dating director Darren Aronofsky. After working together on their upcoming film, Mother!, in the Summer of 2016, the pair struck up a romance. Reports of a relationship between the two began swirling in August 2016, but it wasn't until their PDA-filled outing in NYC in November 2016 that they seemingly confirmed the news.

Despite their 22-year age difference (Darren is 48 and Jennifer will be 27 on Aug. 15), sources say "Jennifer is comfortable with an older guy because she is mature and focused" and she is "mesmerized by his talent and brains since she started working with him." She also opened up about how their relationship came to be in Vogue's September issue, saying, "We had energy. I had energy for him. I don't know how he felt about me. When I saw the movie [Mother!], I was reminded all over again how brilliant he is." As far as why their relationship works, Jennifer explained, "I've been in relationships before where I am just confused. And I'm never confused with him. I normally don't like Harvard people, because they can't go two minutes without mentioning that they went to Harvard. He's not like that."

Darren is best known for his work on films like Black Swan, Requiem For a Dream, and Pi. In 2010, he ended his five-year engagement with actress Rachel Weisz, with whom he shares an 11-year-old son, while Jennifer was linked to Coldplay's Chris Martin in 2014.

Jennifer Lawrence's Mother! Will Disturb You on So Many Levels

If you thought the poster for Jennifer's Lawrence psychological thriller Mother! was creepy, just wait until you see the full trailer. Lawrence's character attempts to "breathe new life" into her home before strange things start happening when she and her husband (Javier Bardem) let unexpected guests stay over. We're talking actual blood dripping from the walls, people. Are the hallucinations all in her head, or is it something else entirely? Since the film's writer and director, Darren Aronofsky - who is dating Lawrence in real life - is the same person responsible for Black Swan, we can only imagine what's in store. Catch the trailer above before it hits theaters on Sept. 15.

Nikki Reed Reveals the Beautiful Way She Found Out She Was Pregnant

Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder are currently expecting their first child together, and the actress's sweet journey to motherhood had the perfect start. Nikki stuns on the September cover of Fit Pregnancy, and in her accompanying interview, she opens up about the moment she found out she was pregnant. "I'm an early bird and took the pregnancy test before dawn," she said. "I didn't have my glasses or contacts and I can't see without them. I was squinting, thinking, 'Are there any more lines?' I yelled to Ian, 'Get up!' He ran into the bathroom, read the test, and we were so excited. We watched the sun come up together, just thinking, 'Wow, we're going to have a baby.'"

The couple, who wed in a stunning ceremony in April 2015, are also vowing to have "a month of silence" following their little one's arrival. "We'll take the baby's first month for ourselves," she continued. "Just the three of us, no visitors, and we're turning off our phones too, so there's no expectation for us to communicate. Otherwise, every five minutes it would be, 'How are you feeling? Can we have a picture?' You don't get those first 30 days back, and we want to be fully present."

This Optical Illusion Is Blowing the Internet's Collective Mind

From a brick wall to the dress, we may be the most technologically advanced generation, but there's nothing we enjoy more than a good mental magic trick. It should come as no surprise, then, that any time someone spots one of these gems in the wild, it immediately makes its way to social media - and immediately goes viral. The latest example of our enduring love for optical mind-trickery, which made its way to the internet this week, comes in the form of a magician's brand new take on a classic optical illusion.

Fifty-eight-year-old Roswell, GA, resident Victoria Skye bills herself as a magical entertainer and illusion artist, and her personal website is chock-full of reasons why that's the perfect way to describe her work. But it took Martin S. Taylor posting one of her artworks to Twitter on Aug. 7 to make her truly go viral - and to spark a fierce debate over whether or not the many lines in the image are bent or, as many claim, are parallel and straight.

The "café wall" illusion is traditionally "an optical illusion produced by a black and white rectangular tessellation when the tiles are shifted in a zigzag pattern," according to Wolfram Alpha, which also confirms that "While the pattern seems to diverge towards the upper and lower right corners in the upper figure, the gray lines are actually parallel." In other words, it's all about the combination of math and colors, which Skye excellently illustrated in her image.

Don't worry, though, if you don't really see what you think you're supposed to - you're not alone. The internet is awash with individuals speculating on whether they had just fallen victim to a hoax, or if there was something wrong with a large percentage of the population's brains. Fortunately, thanks to mathematicians over the past couple of centuries, we can unequivocally say that the lines are in fact straight. You just have to convince your mind to see what it's supposed to.

Real talk: When you do actually see it correctly after staring at it for hours, boy is it a satisfying feeling. Spend some time with a full-size version of Skye's photo, below.

21 Reasons Louis Tomlinson Is the Hot Brit Who Should Be on Your Radar

It's hard to sum up my love for Louis Tomlinson, who I more affectionately call King Louis most of the time, because he's a talented man who deserves to be celebrated as such. Louis, formerly of One Direction fame, has gradually been breaking into the solo music scene since the group went on hiatus at the end of 2015. Last year, he and Steve Aoki collaborated on the dance hit "Just Hold On," and now Louis is back with another hit, this time with Bebe Rexha, called "Back to You."

Most likely, you haven't heard of Louis, because it seems like everyone only knows about Harry Styles, but I'm here to tell you that Louis is the one to watch. Back in the 1D days, Louis wrote a lot of the band's music, and now that he's a solo star, he's not only writing his own, but he's writing for other artists. He's out there doin' the damn thing and charming the world in the process. If you're not already familiar with him and his beautiful face, I'm here to help you out and bring you on board with us. I've got 21 reasons to love him here, though if you let me, I'd probably provide you with approximately 7,454,987,371,280 of them. But alas . . . here are 21.

After You've Calmed Down About This Week's Game of Thrones, Watch the Gnarly Preview For Next Week

OK, so this week's Game of Thrones can't possibly be topped, but we need to know: what's next?! The preview for next week's episode shows us what happens after the Daenerys and Dothraki vs. Lannister battle, and also, the next big war coming, against the White Walkers. As Ser Davos says, "Bad things are coming."

13 Reasons Why: Dylan Minnette Reveals Clay Might Get a New Love Interest in Season 2

13 Reasons Why isn't coming back for season two until some point next year, but luckily some choice details about the new episodes have slowly but surely been trickling in. Although we still don't know exactly how Hannah (Katherine Langford) will appear in the second season or what the future holds for characters like Jessica and Bryce, star Dylan Minnette recently shed some light on how his character, Clay, will try to move on from what happened to his friend and longtime crush.

"I think that that last shot of season one was a glimpse at him maybe beginning to find some closure, whatever way that is," Minnette said about Clay and Hannah while speaking with Us Weekly. "I don't think it's completely closure, because I don't think he'll really ever be able to find complete closure in that chapter of his life because it's the biggest thing that's ever happened to him, the most impactful thing that's ever happened to him."

Minnette added it's going to be "a long, long, long journey for him to find complete closure," and that fans "will also be surprised by where he ends up, because I'm also trying to figure it out myself right now." Clay's relationship with Hannah is one of the more heartbreaking aspects of the show, but the 20-year-old actor hinted that Clay striking up a romance with someone new isn't totally out of the question. "I don't know if there's a new love [interest]," he teased. "We'll just have to see."

A bunch of new characters have been added to the cast for season two, so maybe one of them ends up connecting with Clay? Then again, Sosie Bacon's character, tattooed barista Skye, definitely gets closer to Clay by the end of season one, when the two of them drive off with Tony (Christian Navarro). No one will ever take Hannah's place in Clay's heart, obviously, but it will be interesting to see how the show's writers plan to address Clay's growth in season two.

This Kettlebell Workout Will Burn a Ridiculous Amount of Calories

Get ready, because this five-move kettlebell workout will torch tons of calories. The workout, created by KettleWorx director of programming Laura Wilson, features basic kettlebell moves that should be in anyone's strength-training repertoire.

When learning these exercises, it's important to start with a light weight first - Laura recommends a five- or 10-pound kettlebell. You can increase the amount of repetitions as you become stronger, but first focus on your form and only increase the weight after you can do 20 reps of these moves correctly with a lighter weight. Once you've hit 20 reps, increase the weight but bring your repetitions back down to 10 until you've acclimated to the heavier weight. "It's about pacing yourself and listening to your body; it will tell you what's right," Laura says.

Repeat the following five-move circuit three times in order to work your entire body and keep your heart rate up. Click through to see Laura in action and learn how to do the workout!

Brunettes Can Now Get Rainbow Hair Without Using a Drop of Bleach

While the allure of rainbow hair might be tempting, many brunettes have decided that it simply isn't worth it. Unlike our blond brethren, we darker-haired damsels typically have to lift our natural color to a lighter shade so rainbow shades pop on our strands. That means that we have to accept the harmful effects of the bleach needed to achieve the look. But it seems that we now have options: a promising new color product is taking bleach out of the equation.

Splat's new Midnight Collection makes it so that brunettes can adopt vibrant shades like indigo, ruby, and amethyst while still maintaining the overall health of their hair. The semipermanent formula works by using tiny micropigments that can transfer the desired color into the follicle but don't require as harsh of a dyeing process in order to look noticeable. The Midnight Collection is also loaded with conditioner to counteract the usual dryness that results from dyeing your hair. According to Splat, the color will then remain for about eight weeks.

The collection's three shades are exclusively available at Target. Look ahead for the three different products, and start plotting your foray into rainbow hair.

20 Chicken Recipes That Aren't Boring, Thanks to Bold Italian Flavors

If chicken is your go-to dinner on a regular basis, you probably need some new recipes in your rotation. These 20 chicken recipes are all made better by one common thing - Italian ingredients. From classic chicken piccata to cheesy caprese chicken pasta, all of these recipes will help you get out of your dinner rut and introduce you to new favorites.

You Might Stop Buying Skinless Chicken Breasts After This

Boneless, skinless chicken breasts are a staple for healthy eaters everywhere - they're lean and they're an excellent source of protein, but all too often they're also bone-dry and flavorless. This could lead anyone astray from healthy eating!

Fortunately, Disneyland Resort Executive Chef Chris Faulkner has a solution for dried up, unappetizing chicken. As a star chef and Ironman triathlete, he knows how to fuel a body in a way that also tastes delicious (read: gourmet sports nutrition!).

As Chef Chris told us during our Lunch 'N Learn cooking class at Disneyland, "Cook the breast with the skin on, then take it off to keep the chicken juicier. You'll save calories by removing the skin, but you'll have more flavor and better texture."

Don't forget to brine your chicken, too. His recipe: lemon juice, orange juice, salt, peppercorns, thyme, garlic, bay leaf, and sliced lemons, limes, and oranges. Simmer for 20 minutes, then add ice to cool it down.

Do you prefer the skin on? Unless you're really trying to cut calories, having a little fat won't hurt you. In fact, fat can be a nourishing fuel source for your body that can keep you full. That said, fats are tougher to digest, so before a race or endurance event, we might suggest cutting it down to ensure you don't experience any GI nightmares during your run. Trust us on this one.

How Betsy DeVos Literally Bought Her Position as Education Secretary

Betsy DeVos, billionaire Republican donor, pretty much just bought a position in the highest tiers of American government. Following a shockingly poor Senate education committee hearing performance, DeVos's confirmation was vehemently opposed by Democrats and two Republicans. An effort to sway another Republican during an all-night session in which the Democrats commandeered the floor was unsuccessful, and DeVos was confirmed in February by Vice President Mike Pence, who had to break a tie vote.

While Republicans rarely break rank and vote against their party, Democrats had an especially difficult time convincing their Republican counterparts to vote against her, likely for one simple reason: the DeVos family has donated thousands of dollars to sitting Republican senators.

The Federal Election Commission requires the full disclosure of campaign donations, and, as is apparent from this list, DeVos donated to at least 23 senators' reelection campaigns - including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. It prompts the question: had DeVos not consistently distributed her wealth to Republican officials, would she have been confirmed?

DeVos has never worked in a public school, never sent a child to public school, and never attended public school herself - and now she'll impact the system on a national level. DeVos has also long championed charter schools as an alternative to public schools, suggesting the entire system might change dramatically under her direction. After her disastrous committee hearing, she allegedly copied written answers from an Obama administration website that she submitted to defend her qualifications. If that's not unqualified, what would it take for Republican senators to consider her an "incompetent" cabinet appointment?

Sorry, Peanut Butter Fans, but Your Favorite Nut Isn't as Healthy as You Think

We've been told since we were little kids that peanuts are a good source of protein and healthy fat and that they make a very smart afternoon snack. Whether it's a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or sliced apple dipped in peanut butter, we're convinced that we're doing our bodies good by consuming the trusty peanut.

You might want to leave behind everything you know about peanuts, though. Dr. Frank Lipman, physician and renowned expert in the field of integrative medicine, told POPSUGAR, "Peanuts, despite the name, are actually not a nut but a legume!" That distinction matters when it comes to our health, and here's how.

"Legumes naturally contain phytic acid and lectins, both of which can weak havoc on gut health," Dr. Lipman said. "Digestive upset could show up symptomatically as issues with bowel movements, gas, and bloating, or in more severe cases, things like brain fog, anxiety, or depression, given the gut's impact on neurotransmitters in the brain."

It's simply harder for the gut to break down phytic acid and lectins, so your body has to work much harder to process peanuts. Dr. Lipman explained that this kind of stress on your digestion could negatively impact your body's immune system. He also pointed out that "90 percent of serotonin is produced in the gut," and serotonin is the feel-good chemical in your brain that promotes good moods, sleep, and a healthy appetite. So if your gut is out of whack, your serotonin production will become imbalanced.

Dr. Lipman actually leaves peanuts out of the diets he creates with his clients. At the very least this will allow them to figure out whether there is a beneficial shift in their overall health. Additionally, anyone who suffers from "major gut-related issues, such as autoimmune conditions" is highly encouraged to steer clear of peanuts entirely.

If you have any digestive issues whatsoever and you're a big peanut eater, it might be a good idea to eliminate peanuts from your diet for a while. If you suffer from strange mood swings or cravings or you have trouble sleeping, you could benefit from cleaning up your diet by nixing peanuts.

If your heart sinks when you simply think about life without peanut butter, know that there are great alternatives. "There are so many other actual nuts and seeds that are good sources of healthy fat and fiber in the diet," Dr. Lipman said. "There are many different versions of nut butters now, so you can easily make a healthy and delicious swap instead of peanut butter."

Whatever nuts and seeds you do choose to eat, Dr. Lipman recommends you consume them in raw or dry-roasted form, free of salt, sugar, and processed oils. If you still have trouble digesting them, "they can be soaked to help the body digest them more efficiently."

This Is Exactly What Happens to Your Body When You Don't Take a Rest Day

If you're someone who has a hard time giving yourself a break, and you've been skipping rest days, then listen up: while we admire your dedication, skipping your recovery is doing you more harm than you think.

We wanted to find out exactly what happens to your body when you train too hard, so we talked to Michelle Opperman, director of group fitness for Crunch, and Jan Milano, CSCS and sports performance coach at DIAKADI. Did you know the effects can be so severe physiologically and psychologically that there's a name for it? It's called "Overtraining Syndrome."

Want to know what Overtraining Syndrome looks like? Here's what happens to your body when you don't take time to recover from intense exercise (or endurance events!):

  • Glycogen stores are depleted. Opperman and Milano both noted that your glycogen decreases. Glycogen is your body's energy source, and not something you want to eliminate. Milano says "decreased glycogen may contribute to the lowered lactate responses," meaning your muscles fatigue more quickly.
  • Corticosteroids increase. We know that cortisone and cortisol (stress hormones) are not good for weight loss, and even add to belly-fat retention. Milano told us that these elevated levels also depress the immune system by inhibiting the reaction of lymphocytes to antigens (basically, the fighter cells can't fight the bad invader cells). So overtraining equals a higher likelihood of getting sick.
  • Your heart goes into overdrive. "Both resting heart rate and submaximal exercise heart rate are increased," said Milano. Be nice to your heart. Take a breather.
  • Your performance suffers. Opperman told us that when sufficient rest is not included in a training program, your ability to perform (i.e., continue training, growing muscle, getting stronger) plateaus or declines, because your muscles literally cannot recover and regenerate. So things just get worse and worse.
  • You'll lose muscle mass. Consistent breakdown + no recovery = bye, muscles. That's the opposite of what you're trying to do, right?
  • You'll feel AWFUL. The tiny tears in your muscles cannot heal, which results in inflammation, swelling, and tenderness. Opperman says the feeling will "become extreme, lasting for days." She also noted that you'll feel physically exhausted for an extended period as well, which could make it hard for you to perform your day to day functions.
  • It messes with your mind. Muscular fatigue is not the only thing Opperman and Milano warned about. The fatigue and distress extend psychologically, and Milano noted that you'll notice mental changes before physical ones. "Decreased vigor, motivation, and confidence; raised tension, depression, and anger accompany an individual's recovery," said Milano.

Do yourself a favor. Go to yoga, don't skip savasana, do your cooldowns, and take a day off to recover. Need some pointers? Make sure you keep our recovery checklist handy, or try any of these recovery essentials.

7 Fun Facts About Cardi B, the Feminist Rapper Taking Over the Music Industry

Cardi B is making a name for herself in the music industry thanks to her vivacious personality and her hit song, "Bodak Yellow." Born Belcalis Almanzar, the entertainer has amassed a legion of fans, 8.1 million to be exact, on social media, and she's only just getting started. With cosigns from Kevin Hart, Drake, and Idris Elba, it's safe to say Cardi is one to watch. Keep reading to get to know the breakout star before she blows up.

  1. She's a native New Yorker. The 24-year-old rapper was born in the Bronx borough of NYC on Oct. 11, 1992, to a Trinidadian mother and Dominican father.
  2. Her nickname is short for Bacardi. During an appearance on The Wendy Williams Show, Cardi stated that she got her name from the popular rum brand. "Everybody used to [call me] Bacardi. Then I shortened it to Cardi B, [and] the 'B' stands for beautiful or bully, depending on the day."
  3. She rose to fame thanks to her hilarious Instagram videos. You've probably seen at least one of Cardi's viral videos on your feed before. Her most notable Instagram video is arguably the one where she jokes about how she never gets cold during the Winter.
  4. She had a rough upbringing. Cardi joined the Bloods gang at the age of 16 and eventually turned to stripping in order to escape her abusive boyfriend at the time. Cardi used the money she earned to help pay for her college courses at Borough of Manhattan Community College, but she dropped out before earning her degree.
  5. She considers herself a feminist. "If you don't support all women, then you're not a real feminist," Cardi told Latina in 2016. "If in order to consider someone a feminist, they have to had gone to college, got degrees, own companies, then that's not real. Why can't someone who came from the bottom, who has a dark past, not achieve? I used to be a dancer and did what I did. I don't have a perfect vocabulary. But I do influence people."
  6. You might have seen her on TV before. Cardi had a brief stint on season six of the popular VH1 reality show Love and Hip-Hop before moving on to primetime. In 2017, Cardi landed a role on the BET scripted series Being Mary Jane alongside Gabrielle Union.
  7. She's a big fan of Lady Gaga. Cardi paid tribute to the pop star in high school with her own rendition of "Bad Romance." She also credits Lady Gaga as one of her fashion icons.

The Beautiful Reason John Cena Kept His Proposal to Nikki Bella a Secret From the World

John Cena is many things: a WWE superstar, an actor, a Tapout ambassador, and a husband-to-be. I recently got the chance to chat with him over the phone while he promoted Tapout's recent launch of body sprays and we talked about everything from what inspired him to get involved with Tapout to his relationship with longtime love Nikki Bella. Being that I'm a big fan of him and Nikki's, I tried not to melt over the way he spoke about her and their romance, but I have to admit, it was pretty damn hard. It's easy to see why people are so obsessed with him and his relationship with Nikki.

  • On what inspired him to get involved with Tapout: "There's a crew of [WWE] superstars known for their dedication and work ethic to fitness and performance and it was a natural progression to go into all facets of performance and well-being."
  • On what sets Tapout body sprays apart from other sprays: "First off, it's some kickass body spray. Second, sometimes in marketing with body sprays they showcase the weaknesses in the human facade, and with Tapout, we really want to empower [people] and [we] really want we offer a variety of scents for every portion of the day."

  • On the moment he knew he wanted to propose to Nikki: "It was long before the last time we spoke [January 2017]. I just wanted it to remain a secret. So much of our lives has been an open book and so much is talked about by everyone, including ourselves. I knew quite a while ago. I just wanted to add some element of romance and a lot of the process of an engagement is the spontaneity and the romance. I just wanted to keep that. I'm glad it worked out the way it did. It was a tremendous surprise. It's a moment I'll have forever."
  • On why he decided to propose at WrestleMania 33: "I messed around with the idea months before and I guess it was just me having the guts enough to do it on that stage. So many of our viewers know myself and Nicole from the WWE ring, and I've been in WWE for 15 years now, [so] they're my family. WrestleMania is the one day of the year that the entire family gathers together. So, I figured it was a great way for me to tell the woman I love that she's the one I want to spend the rest of my life in front of all the people that have followed us for all of these years."
  • On getting to propose to Nikki in front of his mom: "My mom doesn't travel well and she was there by surprise. It was a pleasant surprise. I had no idea she was going to be there and she had no idea what was going down."
  • On how the wedding planning is coming along: "It's going [well]. We're at the initial stages, picking invitations and save the dates and stuff, but I found myself more involved in that stuff than I thought I would be."
  • On what he's looking forward to the most about his wedding: "I want it to be a special day for us so I don't want to rush into it."
  • On whether he and Nikki are planning to televise their wedding: "I'm not sure. I'm going have to divert to her on that one. She's the boss. [Her] show is called Total Bellas, so it's kind of about [her] life and if she decides to open up that moment to the rest of the world, I certainly support her. At the same time, if she were to decide that wants that moment just for us, I'd certainly support her with that as well."

These Male Lawmakers Joked That Women Should Go to the Zoo to Get an Abortion

Posted by Dr. Bob Onder on Friday, January 9, 2015

Apparently, some male lawmakers find the fact that women's reproductive rights in the US are increasingly under fire absolutely hilarious! Two Missouri state senators joked about where women should get abortions in the state during a recent session, with one even saying that they should go to the zoo.

The exchange occurred between state Senators Bob Onder and Wayne Wallingford on April 5. It started because Onder doesn't agree with a tax hike for the St. Louis Zoo because of an ordinance that prohibits "employers and landlords from discriminating against women who have had an abortion, use contraceptives, or are pregnant," reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. As Onder took to the floor, he said: "The St. Louis Zoo gets inspected once a year." To that, Wallingford joked: "Maybe we should send the people that want an abortion to the St. Louis Zoo, because we know it'll be safer."

Onder didn't stop there. Instead, he mentioned how zoos require a five-day waiting period before euthanizing animals, whereas women in Missouri "only" need to wait three days after seeing a doctor to get an abortion. "Let's think about this. Babies, it's three days, so although there are members of this body who don't agree with that three days, babies are three days," Onder said. He continued with, "So, zoo animals, it couldn't be more than 24 hours, right?" After pausing, Onder said, "Five days, Senator."

Even though only a single Missouri facility remains where women can have abortions, Onder wants to make the process even more difficult. The senator has previously drafted an amendment to rename the St. Louis Zoo as "The Midwest Abortion Sanctuary City Zoological Park."

Senator Onder posted a statement to Twitter on April 6 about his comments on the zoo. In it, he says, "My discussion on the Senate floor was completely intended to shine a light on the disservice that St. Louis City did to the people of our region by banning their freedom of speech and religion in making St. Louis an abortion sanctuary city." You can read the full statement ahead.

The internet wasn't into Onder's attempt to clarify what he meant.

It's worth noting that Onder's words are just another tone-deaf comment from a state lawmaker on women's reproductive rights of late.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Have Reportedly Put Their Divorce on Hold

Nearly a year after filing for divorce from Brad Pitt, it seems like Angelina Jolie may be having second thoughts. According to Us Weekly, their divorce is being put on hold. "They haven't done anything to move it forward in several months and no one thinks they are ever going to," a source told the magazine.

While it is still unclear what led to their initial split - there was reportedly a violent altercation between Brad and their 15-year-old son Maddox during a plane ride - the two have been focused on raising their six children in a positive and healthy environment. Brad has even started going to therapy for drinking and smoking, a move Us Weekly adds has made Angelina consider taking him back. "He knew he had a problem that he had to take care of and that's all she ever wanted," the source continued. "Everyone thinks they are going to get back together. It wouldn't be surprising if they announced that they're calling it off and trying to work things out."
