What Happened on Game of Thrones This Week? 30 Seriously Insane Things, For Starters
Major Game of Thrones spoilers below!
Warning: you might having trouble breathing after watching the fifth episode of Game of Thrones season seven, because it's one INSANE ride. Although "Eastwatch" doesn't have quite as much firepower as "The Spoils of War," it manages to squeeze in, oh, about a million bombshells. From the truth about Jon Snow's parentage and a jaw-dropping pregnancy announcement, to the fact a certain character is incredibly hot now, the episode is action-packed, to say the least. Re-live each and every shocking moment below to help you prepare for what's coming next week.
Game of Thrones: What Gilly's Discovery About Jon Snow Actually Means
Jon Snow is a bastard no more. At least that seems to be the takeaway of Gilly's exploration of High Septon Maynard's diary. In between counting the number of steps in the Citadel and keeping a record of all of his bowel movements, the High Septon also slips in a tiny but important detail about Prince Rhaegar. According to the diary, Daenerys's brother has his first marriage annulled in Dorne so that he can be free to marry another woman. Unfortunately, Sam has an outburst before Gilly can officially read off the name of Rhaegar's second wife, but it's safe to say that he legally weds Lyanna Stark before she gives birth to their son, who grows up to be Jon Snow. This is a major moment for Game of Thrones, and it positions Jon to be a true threat to Daenerys's claim to the Iron Throne before the series ends.
Neither Gilly nor Sam grasps the importance of this passage. The information is offered up for the audience alone, although there is a small chance one of them will remember Rhaegar's story once the truth of Jon's parentage comes out. And, hey, Sam takes quite a few books from the Citadel before he packs up with Gilly and baby Sam to head back to Jon's side . . . High Septon Maynard's diary of exposition might be among them.
Gilly's innocent question - "What does 'annulment' mean?" - changes everything for the show's key players. Let's take a closer look at what Jon's legitimacy means for Game of Thrones moving forward.
Jon Snow Is the Rightful King of Westeros
His entire life, Jon has been known as Ned Stark's bastard. That title made him the man he is today, but it turns out everything he bases his identity on is wrong. His parents are Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, and he's their true-born son. That makes Jon the rightful King of Westeros. As Rhaegar's only living son, the rules of secession dictate that the Iron Throne is Jon's by right. Daenerys is Rhaegar's sister and has a lesser claim than her brother's legitimate son, according to the laws of the Seven Kingdoms.
Whether or not Jon wants to wear the crown is an entirely different question, and it's one he may have to ponder at some point. There's no way to know how Jon will react when the truth of his parentage is revealed to him. To learn that he's neither Ned's son nor a bastard is sure to leave him wondering exactly what kind of life he could have had. It may also make him contemplate the good he could do for Westeros if he accepts his fate as the true ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.
Daenerys Is Not Next in Line For the Throne
Daenerys's actions since the death of her brother, Viserys, have all been based on the presumption that she is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. She believes she is the last Targaryen in the world and the throne is her birthright. The truth is now much more complicated. She is a Targaryen, but she has no more right to rule the Seven Kingdoms than Cersei, at least not in the eyes of the law. As Rhaegar's legitimate son, Jon comes before her in the line of succession.
Just because the law isn't on her side doesn't mean Daenerys will simply give up on her goal of leading Westeros. She's still the Mother of Dragons, the Breaker of Chains, and the Unburnt - and she's unlikely to step aside for her nephew or any other person who challenges her claim.
Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen's Story Is Way Less Bleak
Robert's Rebellion is based on the belief that Rhaegar stole Lyanna, raped her, and then held her captive in the Tower of Joy. Season six of Game of Thrones takes fans into the tower to witness the birth of Jon and the death of Lyanna, but the scenes reveal little about her relationship with Rhaegar, aside from her desire for Ned to protect their son. Thanks to Gilly, it now seems the circumstances surrounding Lyanna and Rhaegar's story are much happier, even though the ending remains heartbreaking.
The two likely fell in love during the Tourney at Harrenhal. From that, fans can infer that Lyanna ran away with Rhaegar willingly and was not taken against her will, as Robert believed. Everything that is known about the prince suggests he was a good and kind man who was nothing like his father. As for Lyanna, she is always described as headstrong and as a woman who knows her own mind. She surely wanted to marry Rhaegar as much as he wanted to marry her.
A New Targaryen Alliance
Ultimately, Gilly's revelation points toward a new beginning for House Targaryen. For centuries, the Targaryens wed one another. Daenerys and Jon are already showing a growing fondness for each other; they may fall in love before they find out they are related. If they do, it would make the road to their becoming allies bonded by marriage much smoother in the long run, and it would eliminate any need for in-fighting over who should rule the Seven Kingdoms. Shouldn't the last two Targaryens rule side by side? Remember: there's nothing sadder than a Targaryen alone in the world, because history proves they have always been stronger together.

How to Smartly Grocery Shop at Costco For 1
Costco's low prices for bulk groceries seem like an obvious choice for families, but what about parties of one? If you live alone or are shopping for just yourself, here are some smart choices you can make in the food section to take advantage of the deals without accidentally wasting your pretty pennies.
Never Go to Costco Hungry
You'll be swayed to purchase all the samples, but once you're home, you'll wonder why in the world did you think it was a good call to buy a triple pack of spicy tofu noodes?! Therefore, always make a list prior to going to Costco and eat before you enter the aisles. If you forget, do thyself a favor and eat a slice of pizza from the food court.
Buy Your Staples ONLY
You know what you eat day in and day out and what you constantly buy at the grocery and seem to always run out of. If you can't say with confidence that you can finish a large container of something and quickly, too, don't purchase it. Also, use Costco's coupons for your favorite items rather than for something random that sounds enticing.
Become BFFs With Canned and Frozen Foods
What do canned soups, canned tuna, beer, and frozen burritos have in common? These groceries have an extended shelf life and are packaged up for one. Perfect! Consider this when purchasing groceries. Frozen fruit and veggies are also usually safe for the solo grocery buyer, but be sure you are choosing items that you'll really and truly want to eat on the regular.
Be Careful When It Comes to Perishables
Milk, eggs, cheese, and fresh meat and produce can spell trouble for the solo shopper since they come in such large packages. Yogurt and butter may be the few exceptions, as they usually come in smaller, more manageable packages.
Hold On, When Did Jon and The Hound Meet?
Game of Thrones has been working with a massive cast for the entirety of the show's run, and the past few episodes have brought together a ton of characters who have had yet to share camera time with each other. So as season 7 comes to an end, it was only a matter of time before the show re-introduced a few familiar faces to build up the most important storyline of them all. When Jon leaves Dragonstone in Sunday's episode, he comes face to face with the Hound (and the Brotherhood Without Banners) back in Winterfell. It's quick, but he mentions upon his arrival that he has met the Hound before.
It's not exactly clear when Jon and the Hound manage to cross paths with one another, especially considering that Clegane spends a large chunk of time wandering about the country with Arya after fleeing King's Landing during the War of the Five Kings. But it's likely that Jon remembers The Hound from Robert Baratheon's visit to Winterfell at the very beginning of the series. If you can recall, Clegane is at one point a part of the king's entourage, and when Robert takes the initial trip to the Stark family stronghold, Clegane is more than likely right by his side.
Though the two likely wouldn't have been on the best of terms in seasons past, they're both fighting on the same side as the current season comes to an end - though it isn't all the way clear what the Brotherhood's intentions actually are. Alongside Ser Davos, Jorah Mormont, Gendry, and the rest of the Brotherhood, they'll be taking on the White Walkers next week during a battle that's been teased all season. There's no telling how it'll go, but it's definitely a showdown that we wouldn't want to miss.
Here's Why Gendry Looks So Familiar on Game of Thrones
A familiar face came back into play on Sunday's Game of Thrones in the form of Gendry, who hasn't been seen on the show since the finale of season three. But we always suspected he'd return eventually, because he sort of has a claim to the Iron Throne. Also because he's kind of awesome.
In the first season of Game of Thrones, Ned Stark realizes that his late friend Jon Arryn was tracking down King Robert Baratheon's bastards because he realized the true parentage of Robert's three "legitimate" children (read: Jaime Lannister was actually their father) and that the Lannisters were killing off any Baratheon bastards who might usurp Joffrey's claim to the throne.
When smithy Tobho Mott, whom Gendry works for, sees the writing on the wall that Gendry's days are surely numbered after Ned's beheading, Mott sends the boy away. Gendry decides to join the Night's Watch and is part of Yoren's party of recruits that includes Arya Stark. Gendry befriends Arya, helping defend her and Hot Pie against the bullies in the group.
The Gold Cloaks pursue Gendry and attack their group, but Arya manages to protect him, claiming another dead boy was actually Gendry and that since he was dead, the Gold Cloaks's business is finished. Arya, Gendry, and Hot Pie escape death and are put to work at Harrenhal at the command of Tywin Lannister.
When Arya, Hot Pie, and Gendry eventually escape Harrenhal, they are captured by the Brotherhood Without Banners. Hot Pie takes up work at the Inn at the Crossroads, while Gendry works as a smithy for the Brotherhood. He considers them to be the only family he's ever known . . . until they turn him over to Melisandre for some gold; hence, his reticence to trust them in this latest episode. Seriously, would you trust a bunch of guys who sold you out to be sacrificed to the Lord of Light?
And that's exactly what Melisandre is planning. She believes Stannis Baratheon needs a blood sacrifice of someone with king's blood in order to win the War of the Five Kings, so she takes Gendry back to Dragonstone and seduces him in order to prove his blood magic to Stannis, because leeches (containing Gendry's blood) that represent Joffrey, Balon Greyjoy, and Robb Stark are thrown into the fire and Robb Stark dies at the Red Wedding shortly thereafter.
Ser Davos, however, thinks Melisandre's magic is nonsense and doesn't believe in sacrificing an innocent boy, so he smuggles Gendry out of Dragonstone and sends him off into the sea, rowing for King's Landing - which is why Davos's greeting to Gendry of "Thought you might still be rowing!" is a delightful wink and nod to the fans, since the last time anyone saw Gendry on the show was when he was rowing out into the sea.
So Gendry is back, and while we don't think he's going to end up as a ruler of the Seven Kingdoms, it's wonderful to see him and Jon Snow bond over being the bastard sons of two noblemen who were best friends. (Yes, we all know Jon Snow isn't really a bastard, but they don't know that yet.)
Now Robert's and Ned's sons plus Jorah Mormont, Tormund Giantsbane, and several other Free Men are headed north of the Wall to bring back a White Walker in order to prove to Cersei (and Daenerys, honestly) that there is a credible (and terrifying) threat marching on them from the North. It's a fun payoff for all of us, especially because back in season three Gendry and Arya had a bit of a spark and by now might be a perfect match . . . when all these mortal enemies are properly removed, of course.
Game of Thrones: 3 Possible Places Sam Could Be Heading
We see Sam go through a lot working at the Citadel on Game of Thrones. He empties bedpans, scrapes greyscale off people's bodies, and realizes he is working for a bunch of men who don't know what they're talking about. So in "Eastwatch," it's not totally surprising that he decides to pack up his family and leave. But where is he going? The answer isn't given . . . but there are a few options.
1. Back to The Wall
Sam says before leaving the Citadel, "I'm tired of reading about the achievements of better men." (It's a callback to something his father, Randyll Tarly, said to him.) He obviously aspires to be a "better man," even though he already has an impressive record with killing a White Walker and discovering how to kill more. It would make sense for Sam to return, in hopes of going back to fight with the knowledge he has now.
2. Dragonstone
In "Dragonstone," we see Sam discover in a book that there is dragonglass in Dragonstone that could kill White Walkers. He tells Jon Snow this and now his men are mining it. But it's possible Sam will go there to help Jon further.
3. Horn Hill
This last theory is a stretch, but Sam could be returning home to Horn Hill. We see in this episode that his father and brother, Dickon, are killed by Daenerys for not bending the knee. Sam is now the last man of his house, although he isn't well liked. Someone could tell him the news about his father and brother along the way, and he could change his destination to Horn Hill.
Tonight's Game of Thrones Didn't Go How Jorah Planned, and Fans LOVED It
The following contains spoilers for Game of Thrones season seven.
Well, nobody can ever accuse Game of Thrones's most lovable right-hand man, Ser Jorah Mormont, of disloyalty again. The banished knight literally sheds his own (greyscale-infected) skin to return to serve Daenerys Targaryen in season seven, and when they finally reunite, it's not quite what fans were expecting.
After Jorah declares, "I return to your service, my queen. If you'll have me," many expected the knight and his dragon queen to kiss, since he's harbored a not-so-secret love for her since the beginning of the series. However, now that Daenerys and Jon Snow appear to be connecting on more than just an aunt-and-secret-nephew level, it seems that Jorah and Dany (still) won't work out romantically. The two do share a long hug, however, with Jon glowering jealously in the background.
Now that Jon and Jorah are off to work together Beyond the Wall, only time will tell if their shared romantic interest will result in a rivalry. In the meantime, lose yourself in the oh-so-extra reactions from series fans who can't stop laughing about Jorah's long-awaited return to the friend zone!

Could the Letter Arya Found Be the End of Sansa on Game of Thrones?
It seems like Arya Stark has been at Winterfell for only a day on Game of Thrones, but she is already on to Sansa and Littlefinger. In "Eastwatch," Arya observes that Sansa doesn't really defend Jon Snow to his critics in Winterfell, and she also takes note of Sansa's suspicious relationship with Littlefinger. This leads to Arya coming across something that makes Sansa look even more untrustworthy.
After trailing Littlefinger, Arya breaks into his room and reads a scroll that was hidden in the mattress. But because everything is moving so fast, you might have missed what, exactly, was in it. Sadly, things aren't looking good for Arya and Sansa's relationship.
The letter is actually from season one, when Cersei forced Sansa to write Robb and Catelyn Stark to break some big news and urge them to come to King's Landing. It reads:
Robb, I write to you with a heavy heart. Our good king Robert is dead, killed from wounds he took in a boar hunt. Father has been charged with treason. He conspired with Robert's brothers against my beloved Joffrey and tried to steal his throne. The Lannisters are treating me very well and provide me with every comfort. I beg you: come to King's Landing, swear fealty to King Joffrey and prevent any strife between the great houses of Lannister and Stark. Your faithfull sister, Sansa.
It's obviously a trap. This didn't work originally, and Robb and Catelyn knew it was a sign that Sansa was being held hostage by Cersei. However, Arya is already suspicious of her sister, and this could drive a greater wedge between them.

"OH SH*T" and Other Reactions We Had to Jon Snow Meeting Drogon on Game of Thrones
This post contains spoilers for Game of Thrones season seven.
It happened: Jon Snow came face to face with one of Daenerys Targaryen's dragons on Game of Thrones, and the internet couldn't handle it. After consistent buildup throughout the series that Jon Snow is, in fact, a Targaryen, the true sign of it all came as the King of the North went face-to-face with Drogon, Daenerys's largest dragon, after they returned from a bloody, smoky attack on the Lannisters. Although Jon immediately dropped to the ground after Drogon flew over him in "The Queen's Justice," this was the first time the two interacted with one another, and it immediately gave us chills.
With Drogon just inches away from Jon, we knew this could go in two totally opposite directions: the dragon could've opened his mouth and erased Jon with a breath of fire, or it would be an emotional exchange that would give everyone goosebumps. Well, it was the latter, and the connection between Jon and Drogon is fierce. Jon comes insanely close to Drogon and rubs the dragon in an awestruck, holy f*ck kind of way. Our goosebumps pretty much turned into dragon scales. Will Jon be one of the "three heads" to ride a dragon? Only time will tell, but for now, check out some of the most spot-on reactions to Jon meeting the dragon, then prepare to freak out over next week's episode - we can't wait!
You Will Never Look at Oreos the Same Way Again After Reading These Facts
You may love Oreos, whether dunked in milk, crumbled over ice cream, or crumbled into pie crust. Despite the vast ways you've learned to enjoy the cream-filled sandwich cookie, have you ever stopped to think about its rich history? These fun facts will allow you to see the cookies in a whole new light.
- The origin of the name "Oreo" is unknown. Although, one Oreo exec says the name mimics the two O-shaped cookies that make the sandwich. Others claim the "re" comes from the "cream."
- Oreos are a total ripoff of Hydrox, the original cream-filled chocolate cookie, which came out in 1908. Oreos weren't released until 1912.
- Double-Stuf are actually 1.86 times more stuffed than regular Oreos. Do you feel slightly cheated?
- To date, Oreo has over 42 million Facebooks followers. In comparison, The New York Times has 13 million.
- Oreo's first crazy flavor was Birthday Cake, released in 2012 for its centennial celebration. Since then, the company releases new flavors quarterly, but our favorites will always be cotton candy and marshmallow crispy.
For Better Sleep, Do These Things 20 Minutes Before Bed
We spend about a third of our lives in slumberland, but many people complain of not sleeping well. If you have a tough time falling asleep or you toss and turn in the middle of the night, try exercising during the day and limiting alcohol and caffeine a few hours before bedtime. But if you are doing this already and still have troubles, here are three things to do immediately before hitting the hay to calm your body and mind and help you get the restful night of sleep you crave.
- The power of water: Twenty minutes before bedtime, dim the lights in the bathroom, turn on some relaxing tunes on your iPhone, and take a warm shower or bath. The heat soothes achy muscles, and the steam clears your sinuses, which is essential if allergy symptoms prevent you from sleeping well at night. It's also a great way to wash away germs and prevent you from getting sick, which can also make it difficult to sleep.
- Bye-bye pains: After your 10-minute warm bath or shower, slip into your PJs and do five minutes of stretching to ease any pains that prevent you from sleeping. Lower back pain is common for many, so if yours bothers you, here's a yoga sequence to offer back pain relief. If a sore neck and shoulders are your woe, do these soothing stretches. A little self-massage can also ease muscle tension, or apply a heating pad or one of those rice pillows you warm up in the microwave to sore areas.
- Get bored: Now slip into bed, not with a riveting, can't-put-it-down book, but one that has a dull, monotonous, stale topic that's bound to have your eyelids drooping in minutes. Be sure to read from an actual book, not a laptop or iPad, as the lights cue your brain to wake up.

Katherine Langford Looks Like a Renaissance Princess at the Teen Choice Awards
Image Source: Getty / Kevin Mazur
While watching Katherine Langford star as Hannah Baker in 13 Reasons Why, we all saw that girl has range! And now, based on her beauty look at the Teen Choice Awards on Aug. 13, we think we know what character she should play next. Take a look at her soft, romantic, and dense-as-hell curls, plus her classic rose lip. She could totally star in a film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, no?
We're getting major Renaissance vibes from Katherine's ethereal look, and we love how it's a total departure from her now-iconic, ultracurly Hannah Baker hair. Since we're used to seeing Katherine wear her hair pushed back, with no definitive part, this new look (in all its middle-parted glory!) is a subtle surprise.
Kathrine's coral lipstick look hits that perfect bare-lips-but-better sweet spot and would totally work for a Romeo and Juliet balcony scene. We have never been sure of a more perfect casting decision. Hollywood directors, make this happen!
I Didn't Eat Breakfast For 3 Months and This Is What Happened
My weight-loss journey has been a long one, with many mistakes along the way, including spooning peanut butter from the jar and eating too much during half-marathon training. Even after years of religiously exercising and eating right and not reaching my weight-loss goals, I thought signing up for CrossFit would be the answer. But after six months of burpees and barbells, my body hadn't transformed the way I thought it would. "Give it nine months," my fellow CrossFitters kept saying, but by the end of my eighth month, I still had the baby fat on my belly I was trying so hard to get rid of (and my baby was almost five years old!). I was beyond frustrated.
Before
So after a ton of research, I decided to try intermittent fasting (IF), specifically the 16/8 plan, where I'd fast for 16 hours and eat for eight. I'd stop eating around 7 or 8 at night, then wouldn't eat again until 11 a.m. or noon the next day, so essentially I'd skip breakfast. The photo above was taken March 1, 2017, six days after I started intermittent fasting and eight months after starting CrossFit.
After
This photo was taken May 20, 2017, just over 12 weeks after starting intermittent fasting. I was actually really surprised, getting dressed to go to my Saturday morning CrossFit class, I caught a glimpse of my belly in the mirror. I took a pic so I could compare it to three months ago and couldn't believe that the change was so visible. And I was also in disbelief because I've been weighing myself every few days since I started and because I was keeping up with CrossFit classes four to five times a week, I actually gained a few pounds, which I can see now is muscle weight!
During my first month of IF, I didn't talk to anyone about it, because skipping meals, especially breakfast, is so taboo. Experts constantly talk about how not eating in the morning will slow down your metabolism, but after reading so extensively about intermittent fasting and the success other people had and the success I had experienced in the first month, I felt compelled to keep going and to talk to more people about it.
I discovered a few people I knew who also did intermittent fasting, and I even inspired a couple friends to try it themselves. It still feels a little weird that I finally found success in transforming my body in a way that's looked down upon by so many experts. But speaking from personal experience, it's the only thing that's worked for me.
There are two main reasons I found so much success. One, IF allowed me to enjoy larger, more satisfying meals and gave me the freedom to eat what I wanted and not be as calorie-restrictive as I was with my previous daily eating schedule of three meals and two snacks.
But most importantly, reason number two, it helped me get a handle on my obsession over food and weight loss and my sugar cravings. Before IF, I never felt hunger because I was eating every two to three hours, like I was taught to. But eating that often just made me want to eat all frickin' day. I was always reaching for food, even if I wasn't hungry. Intermittent fasting taught me that it's OK to feel hungry before meals, but what's interesting is that I feel less hungry eating less often and surprisingly don't crave sweets as much. I'm more conscious about when I'm actually feeling hunger, and realized that most of the time, I was just thirsty, and drinking water is what I needed. And when I do eat, I'm more in tune with my body, recognizing when I'm full, and stopping before I overeat, instead of just finishing the food because it's piled on my plate.
I also feel freedom from thinking about food. I'm not meticulously counting calories or spending hours planning out meals, food shopping, prepping meals, and cooking. I eat two big, satisfying meals a day and I'm done. It's been liberating and so good for me mentally to not be so tied to food.
Many people ask if I'm going to stick with this "not eating breakfast thing." I'm not gonna lie - some days are so tough and I get home from CrossFit and want to eat everything in my kitchen breakfast with my family at 7 a.m. But then I look at these before-and-after photos and I see that it's working. It totally inspires me to keep going, since my body isn't quite where I want it to be yet. Aside from changing my body composition, I've become a huge fan of intermittent fasting for the other benefits, such as less bloating and a clearer, more focused mind - I can't wait to see what the next three months bring.
18 (Mostly Thirsty) Reactions to You Know Who's Sexy Game of Thrones Return
Warning: Spoilers for Game of Thrones below!
The fifth episode of Game of Thrones season seven, "Eastwatch," is notable for many reasons, but chief among them is how f*cking hot Gendry is. The long-awaited return of Robert Baratheon's bastard had fans drooling from the moment Ser Davos first spots him working as a blacksmith in Flea Bottom to the scene when he bashes some heads in with a massive hammer. Enjoy each and every one of Twitter's hilarious(ly thirsty) reactions to Gendry's reappearance below.
This 1 Goes Out to Game of Thrones Fans Losing It Over That Jon Snow Reveal
This post contains spoilers for season seven of Game of Thrones.
Game of Thrones fans have been awaiting the official unveiling of supposed bastard Jon Snow's parentage for years; for some book readers, it's even been decades. And in the most recent episode of the series, a major tease for the anticipated reveal of Jon's claim to the Iron Throne was dropped in a serious way.
Naturally, everybody freaked out when Gilly told Sam about a certain maester's record of an annulment between Rhaegar Targaryen and his wife, and the subsequent new marriage that the maester officiated for the dragon prince. After all, if Rhaegar annulled his vows to Elia Martell and married Lyanna Stark before Jon's birth, it means that he's not a bastard at all - Jon Snow is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, with a claim even stronger than Daenerys Targaryen's. Damn Sam for ruining the official reveal!
Guess we'll have to wait until the next episode to find out if Jon's claim is true, and if anyone will ever learn the truth. In the meantime, bask in the over-the-top reactions from Game of Thrones fans who would bend the knee for Jon freakin' TARGARYEN in a heartbeat.
Prince Charles Made a "Joke" After Harry's Birth That Actually Broke Diana's Heart
Princess Diana was many things to many people, but above all else, she was an adoring and doting mother of two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. While much is known about Diana's special connection with her boys, there's one thing people may not know about Harry's birth in particular: Prince Charles "desperately" wanted a little girl, and Diana, knowing that she was carrying a baby boy, kept the secret from her husband throughout her entire pregnancy.
About a year after Prince William was born in June 1982, Diana was under pressure to produce a spare to the heir. In September 1983, Buckingham Palace announced that Diana was pregnant for a second time, but sadly, she suffered a miscarriage later that week while at the Balmoral estate in Scotland. Cut to early 1984, when Charles and Diana found out that they were expecting again. During her difficult pregnancy, Diana told friends, "I don't think I'm made for the production line, but it's all worth it in the end."
In September 1984, Diana gave birth to a baby boy, Henry Charles Albert David Mountbatten-Windsor, after nine hours of labor and zero drugs. In Andrew Morton's Diana: Her True Story, the princess revealed her husband's "dismay" after welcoming their second child: "Charles always wanted a girl," she said. "Harry was a boy. His first comment was, 'Oh God, it's a boy.' His second: 'And he's even got red hair.'" Charles discounted the comment as a joke, but Diana was extremely hurt and offended: not only had she just endured nine f*cking hours of natural birth, but her older sisters and younger brother, Earl Spencer, all happen to have red hair, a trait that runs in the Spencer family. What's worse, at Harry's christening in December, Charles reportedly told Diana's mother, "We were so disappointed - we thought it would be a girl."
Diana went on to explain that she and Charles were "the closest we've ever, ever been and ever will be" in the weeks before Harry was born, adding, "Then, suddenly, as Harry was born, it just went bang, our marriage. The whole thing went down the drain." She went on to admit that "something inside me closed off," after Harry's birth - especially because Charles had picked up his longtime affair with Camilla Parker Bowles. "By then, I knew Charles had gone back to his lady," she said of the rekindled romance.
Harry's red hair led many to believe that his biological father was actually James Hewitt, an English Army captain who was hired to teach Diana, William, and Harry horseback riding. While Diana and James did carry on an affair in the late '80s, they didn't meet until two years after Harry's birth. And Charles's desire for a baby girl has held strong after all these years, as evidenced by his excitement over the birth of Princess Charlotte in 2015. "I was hoping for a granddaughter - someone to look after me when I am very old," he told reporters during a public engagement that year. "I am really rather thrilled."

Beaded gowns, rhinestone-encrusted minaudières, baubles and bling - in our eyes, they all pale in comparison to the glittering beauty of a freshly lacquered nail. Due to all the incredible manicures, the red carpets of 2017 award season have us mesmerized. Read on to see some of the most fabulously famous fingers.
Leave It to Bella Thorne to Rock Face (and Cleavage!) Glitter on the Red Carpet
Bella Thorne is never one to shy away from a statement-making beauty moment, but her Teen Choice Awards getup may truly take the cake in terms of how darn extra she's willing to be. When she made her entrance on the blue carpet, we immediately noticed her striking hair color - or shall we say colors. Her locks were curled and dyed a mix of shades, from deep red to light pink and every hue in between on the color spectrum.
But let's be real: the focus of Bella's entire ensemble was her over-the-top makeup. To start, she was wearing not one but two eye makeup colors: a light pink shadow on her upper lids and a light blue smudged under her lower lashes. The actress was also notably wearing a smattering of glitter on the right side of her face (oh, and a sprinkling in her cleavage, too). All in all, it was giving us all the unicorn-inspired Lisa Frank vibes. If you have plans to attend a rave in the near future, use Bella to inspire your hair and makeup choices, and you'll certainly fit right in among the rest of the glitter-adorned rave princesses out there.
Ahead, see every aspect of Bella's beauty look, and then scope out all of the other beauty moments at this year's Teen Choice Awards.
Zendaya Did Her Own Teen Choice Awards Makeup - These Are the 6 Drugstore Products She Used
Zendaya may just be the coolest, most down-to-earth beauty goddess of our day. Last year, she told us she does her own makeup for award shows (and uses YouTube videos for inspiration!). We then got press alerts for major shows, like the Grammys, confirming that she really is a DIY girl.
And it happened again! When Zendaya arrived at 2017 Teen Choice Awards looking flawless, we admired her gorgeous curls and bronzy look. While Dove celebrity hairstylist Tym Wallace took care of those disco '70s-inspired curls, a rep from CoverGirl confirmed that Zendaya did her own makeup using the drugstore brand. (Zendaya is an ambassador for CoverGirl).
Nothing Zendaya used is over $11, which is wonderful for all of us on a budget. Keep reading to shop the exact products she picked for her face, including the brand's newest mascara.
Can We Talk About How Amazing Millie Bobby Brown's Skin Looks?
After seeing Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown on the Teen Choice Awards red carpet, you might want to talk about her outfit and sunglasses. You might want to talk about her braided hair (which, fair, considering we're used to seeing her head totally shaven as Eleven). We're here, however, to talk about her skin because, damn, does it look luminescent.
Of course, at 13, you are blessed with the plump, porcelain skin of youth. But it's not like Millie doesn't keep skin care top of mind. As she shared in a viral Instagram makeup tutorial back in May, "Keeping my skin as healthy as possible is the ultimate case." She also gave some tips, like spritzing rose water before applying primer, eating avocado for healthier skin, and taking a "less is more" approach to makeup.
Millie stayed true to her word, wearing a minimalist beauty look for the red carpet. The star wore a rosy lip color and glittery (but subtle!) blue and purple eyeliner with just a little mascara. Highlighter on her nose, cupid's bow, and inner corners of her eyes topped it all off and gave her skin an enviably radiant finish. Bask in the glory of Millie's perfection, ahead.
The Obama Girls Have Grown Up Before Our Eyes
Barack and Michelle Obama's little girls, Malia and Sasha, aren't so little anymore! As the nation's most public mom when she was first lady, Michelle always tried to connect with other Americans raising their kids. Malia was just 10 when Barack was elected, and Sasha was 7. "My life is no different from any other working mother. Mine is just more public," former First Lady Michelle Obama told us back in 2012, adding, "Some of us have more resources than others, but the pain, the challenges, the fears of motherhood, the frustrations of being a woman, the hopes and dreams that you have for your daughters, and all our daughters are the same." As the former first family adjusts to private life, let's take a look at the Obama girls' family photo album.
Stop! In the Name of Savings - Consider This Before You Buy Those Clothes
Dressing to impress at work doesn't have to come with a hefty price tag. It's all about clean and simple - which is a look every budget can afford. After all, you should focus most of your time, money, and energy on becoming a brand, not wearing one. But if you do want to invest in something expensive to step up your corporate closet, crunch the numbers to see if it makes financial sense. Here's an equation I came up with to plug and chug whatever you're eyeing and determine if you should buy it or skip it:
ORIGINAL COST / USES PER YEAR = COST PER WEAR
COST PER WEAR + MAINTENANCE PER YEAR = X
ORIGINAL COST – X = VALUE PER YEAR
- If the value per year is greater than 65 percent of the original cost then buy it!
- If the value per year is less than 65 percent of the original cost then skip it!
Here's an example: you want to buy a $200 blazer. Let's say you want to wear it in different ways twice a week in and out of the office, or 104 times per year. Divide $200 by 104 wears and you get a price of about $2 per wear. Then factor in maintenance, aka dry cleaning, at around 50 bucks a year and subtract that from the original $200 price tag. Since that number ($148.08) is greater than 65 percent of the original cost, factoring in maintenance costs and the amount you will use it, it's worth it. So buy it!
However, if you are looking at a $500 dress that you might only wear two times per year for nicer work events with maintenance costs of hemming and dry cleaning of around $50 per year, then the value you are getting is 60 percent of the original cost. Not worth that hefty price tag. So skip it!
You know the old saying, "Dress for the job you want"? I don't totally agree with that. Instead, I suggest that you dress for the job you have and strut in those work-appropriate shoes to where you want to go.

We're Calling It Now: Lucy Hale's "Berry Eyes" Will Be Fall's Hottest Makeup Trend
When Lucy Hale walked the red - er, blue - carpet at the 2017 Teen Choice Awards, we automatically fell in love with her dress: a colorblock number with the prettiest silver embellishments. But naturally, we couldn't help but take a closer look at her stunning hair and makeup, and now we have enough beauty inspo to last us all week. Her hairstyle was simple and unfussy: a slicked-back 'do crafted using Kristin Ess products. We can't wait to copy this one on those rushed workday mornings when we hit the snooze button one too many times!
The focal point of her entire look was definitely her sultry eye makeup, which makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan has dubbed "berry eyes" (aka the new Fall-approved alternative to the "pink eye" trend that took over the red carpet earlier this year). A lovely reddish-purple hue that matched the lower half of her dress was smudged all around Lucy's eyes, making for one heck of a sexy look.

The Incredible Story of How 1 Man Secretly Paid Rosa Parks's Rent For Years
We now have yet another reason to revere Michael Ilitch following the news of his death on Feb. 10. Ilitch was the founder of pizza joint Little Caesars and owner of the Detroit Tigers, but he also had an impact on one of the most notable icons of the Civil Rights Movement.
Ilitch quietly paid for Rosa Parks's housing in downtown Detroit for more than a decade until she passed away in 2005, according to WXYZ Detroit. Parks was living in Detroit when, in 1994, someone robbed and assaulted her in her home. She then moved to a safer apartment complex; when Ilitch heard about the story, he offered to pay for her housing.
News of his kind actions originally came of light back in 2014, when Detroit judge Damon Keith came forth with the story for Sports Business Daily. "It's important that people know what Mr. Mike Ilitch did for Ms. Rosa Parks because it's symbolic of what he has always done for the people of our city," he told the journal.
The story has resurfaced after his death. Not only did Ilitch fill Americans with his delicious pizza, but now he will live on to fill the hearts of people everywhere with his inspiring act of generosity.

The Very Obvious Reason Papa John's Pizza Tastes Sweet, According to a Former Employee
A former Papa John's manager recently shared his many insights in a Reddit IAmA session. The unnamed employee also worked as a Domino's manager; however, his Papa John's company secrets were particularly enlightening and refreshingly honest. In addition to naming the two pizzas you should stay away from, the employee also shared his special recipe that is a re-creation of the chain's buttery garlic sauce. Read ahead to learn all of the interesting tidbits.
There's a very obvious reason the pizza tastes slightly sweet.
Have you ever wondered why that addictive red sauce has a sweet aftertaste? After making this observation, a Reddit user asked the employee why the pizza tastes as though "the red sauce is candied." According to the employee, there's a simple reason for that. "It's full of sugar," he said.
The official tagline does deliver on its promise.
The chain's decades-old tagline states, "Better Ingredients. Better Pizza. Papa John's." The employee complimented the company when he said the Papa John's tagline actually holds up. "They do actually have better ingredients," he said, adding, "The sauce is surprisingly high quality and the vegetables are all fresh."
The worst signature pizza might surprise you.
When asked to name the worst pizza-topping combination available at Papa John's, he said, "John's Favorite is awful." The signature pizza consists of sausage, pepperoni, Italian seasoning, and a six-cheese blend. If that combination doesn't sound too bad to you, the employee insisted, "It's just grease on top of grease."
Stay away from the Spinach Alfredo Pizza.
Though it sounds tasty, the creamy Spinach Alfredo Pizza is a risky order. The employee admitted that it goes to waste pretty quickly. He said, "Papa John's has a spinach alfredo sauce that's delicious but only gets ordered maybe once a week, and it hits its sell by date 3 days after you open the bag." Oh, but it gets worse. According to him, employees don't actually throw out the sauce after it goes bad. He said, "No one actually throws it out until it's either gone or nasty looking."
There's a better way to reheat your leftover pizza.
Next time you have leftover pizza, don't even think about using the microwave. In order to get the most out of your pizza, the employee recommended his method involving a frying pan with a lid and olive oil. According to him, letting the pizza simmer over a small amount of olive oil "makes the crust crispy without drying out the toppings."
Yes, you can make your own garlic sauce.
After receiving so many questions about that famous Papa John's garlic sauce, the employee finally shared his recipe at the top of the page. For starters, you'll need to sauté a few cloves of minced garlic. When the garlic gets soft, reduce your heat to a low simmer. Then add basil, parsley, salt, and two entire sticks of butter - yes, really. He added, "The heat should be just enough to melt the butter and not much more." Interestingly enough, Papa John's uses margarine for its garlic sauce; however, the employee argues that butter tastes better.
Rita Ora's Neon Hair Is the Highlight(er) of the Teen Choice Awards Carpet
From pink to blue to her signature platinum blond, Rita Ora can pull off any hair color. Tonight, she proved it even more with a brand-new, head-turning look: highlighter-yellow highlights. It gives a whole new meaning to "glowing" on the red carpet.
She wore the unconventional shade in a classic french twist, leaving out long bangs in a deep side part. To offset the bright hair, she kept her usually full-on makeup look a bit more low-key. Bronzed skin, layers of mascara, and a fuchsia lip looked simple and sophisticated.
But back to the hair. She seemingly dyed it right before the event, as just a couple of days ago, she was rocking some sandy blond locks. We love the change, so much that we need to appreciate it at all angles.
Peyton List's Gorgeous Striped Manicure Will Make You Completely Rethink Neutral Nails
Image Source: Getty / Frazer Harrison
In case you're not one of the 11 freakin' million who follow Peyton List on Instagram, you should know: she's kind of a big deal. While the actress is beloved for her starring roles on Disney Channel's Bunk'd and Jessie, we are even bigger fans of all the beauty inspiration she serves on the regular. Case in point: at the Teen Choice Awards, she killed it in slicked-back beach waves styled by Whitney Wilson and a bold red metallic smoky eye with nude lips. What really stole the show, however, were her nails.
From afar, the nails look like your average neutral mani, but zoom in and you'll see some subtle but spectacular striped nail art, the perfect complement to her bright Bec and Bridge jumpsuit. Peyton described the look as "super elegant and chic." "We incorporated the wrap component of my jumpsuit and used tonal elements with nail art," she told POPSUGAR while getting ready (a process she claims takes two hours, during which - fun fact - she listens to music by her new "go-to," Billie Eilish, "because her music is so calming").
"I chose nude tones for my nails because there's so much color going on with my outfit," Peyton elaborated. "The nail design complements the cut of the jumpsuit more so than the colors. I love how clean and elegant it turned out! Usually, the first thing I look at is nails, so if my nails look good, I feel confident. Plus, this [is] a nail look that really can go with any outfit."
Celebrity manicurist Julie K. used two classic Essie shades: Topless & Barefoot and Blanc. She started out with two coats of Blanc on a diagonal, covering about two-thirds of the nail, and cleaned up the edges with an eyeliner brush dipped in acetone. Then, she used a thin liner brush dipped in Topless & Barefoot to draw the other lines. For those copying the look at home, she had a smart tip: apply topcoat on a diagonal in the same direction as the design so you don't smear it.
Aside from bottles of Essie, Peyton revealed to us that she also keeps something unexpected in her beauty kit: "The fortune from a fortune cookie! If I like it, I'll keep it in random places, like my makeup bag." Cute!

It's no secret that the last few years have been a bleak time for romantic comedies, though 2017 is bringing some new hopefuls to the genre. To help matters, I've picked out a handful of great romantic comedies that you can stream on Netflix - movies that are either old favorites, gems you may have never seen, or semirecent movies you missed for whatever reason. JAY-Z just released the music video for his song "MaNyfaCedGod" off his 4:44 album, and it's emotional. In the black and white clip, Academy Award-winner Lupita Nyong'o delivers a powerful performance as a heartbroken woman who is scorned by her lover, and yes, it will leave you in tears. The somber video is a stark contrast to the colorful and playful "Moonlight" music video the 47-year-old rapper released earlier this month. 5 Out-of-This-World Places to See the Northern Lights
Long before all the high-tech lighting effects and lasers, Mother Nature has been putting on a light show of her own - and it's spectacular. The aurora borealis - often referred to as the northern lights - is a celestial display of brightly colored lights shimmering and rippling across the night sky. Since they typically can only be seen above the Earth's magnetic poles, northern lights chasers will usually have to brave some pretty extreme terrains to catch a glimpse of the show.
Lucky for us, there are some sensational accommodations that, while a bit of a trek to get to, provide luxury amenities that will keep you cozy and comfortable while you enjoy the view. Be sure to pack for the occasion, because you will likely find yourself in subzero temperatures and, if you're feeling exceptionally brave, even sleeping in a house made of ice and snow.

Adventurers Have to Climb Ladders and More to Reach This Beautiful Waterfall in Arizona
If the Grand Canyon's Havasupai Falls is on your list, you may want to add Beaver Falls to it while you're there. Though the internet freaked out over the secret magical waterfall, we argue that Beaver is an even cooler site than Havasupai with its natural cascading pools.
This one also requires an eight-mile trek, but getting there is an adventure in its own. Adventure-seekers will especially love this path, which requires descending almost-vertical walls via chains and ladders and walking across narrow bridges across the water. Your heart is guaranteed to race at each crossing, but the destination is totally worth the adrenaline rush.
See the amazing photos!
