I Found the Perfect Face Cleanser For When I'm Just Too Lazy to Deal

I've been reporting on beauty for a long time. Longer than I want to admit. So I know that properly cleansing your face, patting it dry, toning it, and applying serums and moisturizers (in the correct order) are critical steps in maintaining a healthy and balanced complexion. That said, I've never looked forward to these obligatory steps, let alone those that require me to add grainy exfoliators and globby masks to the already-long routine. I suppose you could write me off as lazy, but I just don't like beauty upkeep. I'm all about good hygiene - I'm not a monster - but I struggle to find the joy in spending my time at the sink. That said, I still do it. I still wash my face and switch out my cleansers depending on the season, and I still dab the creams and dot my eyes.

But I also skip it sometimes and head to bed with immense guilt, like I've neglected to feed my dog or lock the front door. To fix this, I've spent a lot of time searching for makeup wipes that I could store near my bed, but they've all failed me, leaving me ultradry with burning eyes and blotchy skin.

But two years ago, I received a bottle of Bioderma Micelle Solution Sensitive Skin, and everything changed. Micellar water has been touted as a miracle cleanser that doesn't need to be rinsed off, and while I typically use it as part of the aforementioned cleansing routine, I keep a second bottle on my bedside table for the nights when I'm just too darn lazy to do anything more than brush my teeth. On those nights, I grab the cotton rounds that I also store in my bedside table, lie down like the lethargic human I am, and wipe it all off. The makeup, the mascara, the gunk - it all comes off. And the best part is that because the solution is made for sensitive skin, it never burns my face or makes me red. It leaves me squeaky-clean.

Whether you're a proud lazy girl or an occasional loaf, I urge you to give this hack a try.

Early Signs of Anxiety and Depression Could Be Detected in Children Straight From Birth

Although symptoms of anxiety and depression have the potential to materialize in kids as young as 2, a new study reveals that these early signs could be detected in newborns. Factors such as genetics, environment, and experiences all have an influence on a person's likelihood of exhibiting signs of mental illness, but the study, conducted by the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, claims that patterns in a newborn's brain connectivity could predict whether they may experience symptoms years before they happen.

"Brain connectivity patterns may indicate that for some children, their brains are developing along a trajectory that increases their risk for mental health symptoms as they develop," Dr. Cynthia Rogers, a child psychiatrist at Washington University in St. Louis and lead author of this study, told The Huffington Post. "It's important to note, however, that the experiences and environment that they are exposed to as they grow may alter these connectivity patterns making it more or less likely for these symptoms to develop."

The study looked at MRI brain scans of 65 full-term babies and 57 premature babies to see the patterns between their amygdalas - where the brain interprets fear - and other brain regions. They were then assessed at 2 years old for any early signs of anxiety or depression. Researchers found that whether the child was full term or preterm, certain connections between the amygdala and other parts of the brain - the insula and medial prefrontal cortex, which involve emotions, consciousness, planning, and decision making - were associated with a higher risk of early signs of anxiety and depression at 2 years.

"If we can understand what patterns of connectivity are related to early social and emotional impairments, we can then study what predicts those connectivity patterns," Rogers said. "We can evaluate whether there are experiences these children have while in the hospital or early in infancy that change these patterns for better or worse that we can aim to modify."

If you think your child may be exhibiting signs or symptoms of anxiety or depression, consult their pediatrician to discuss a potential course of action.

What You Need to Know About Those Viral "Tree of Life" Breastfeeding Photos

In a new take on the breastfeeding selfie, moms can now transform a beautiful moment of nourishing their child into an equally stunning photo illustration. These unique "Tree of Life" images are going viral as moms across social media are uploading their favorite brelfies to the PicsArt photo editing app and creating these powerful photos in an array of artistic styles.

Many proud moms are using these #TreeofLife masterpieces as a fresh campaign to normalize breastfeeding while others are creating them as a way to show that bottle-feeding moments are just as precious. No matter the intention, these works highlight the beautiful bond between parent and child.

"What we love even more is how these women are editing photos not just for themselves, but as gifts for each other," PicsArt wrote online. "The spirit of collaboration and the celebration of life is definitely something PicsArt supports 100 percent."

This trend is quickly moving beyond breastfeeding into other aspects of a mom's life. "We've also started seeing women create other kinds of beautiful pregnancy art using the same method, overlaying images of babies in the womb over their bumps, as well as bottle-feeding mothers," Nanette Wong, senior social media community manager at PicsArt, told POPSUGAR. "We encourage and support all mothers whether they nurse or not to get creative and express themselves and their experiences."

Each finished image is just as unique as the family and can be created in minutes. Here's how to make your own PicsArt Tree of Life breastfeeding photo:

  • Download the free PicsArt app and as well as the Tree of Life sticker pack.
  • Upload your favorite breastfeeding photo.
  • Insert your favorite tree with roots image and position it.
  • Use the "magic" button to select the effects and filter you like best.

Husband Says "Time Is Drawing Near" For His Terminally Ill and Pregnant Wife on Life Support

After Carrie DeKlyen was diagnosed with terminal cancer in April 2017, she enrolled in a clinical trial at the University of Michigan to fight the incurable disease. However, the mom of five was informed she wouldn't be able to receive treatment unless she terminated a pregnancy she wasn't even aware of up until that very appointment. As soon as she found out about the pregnancy, she decided to forgo treatment to give her baby a shot at life. Since this decision was made, Carrie's condition has deteriorated rapidly, and at 21 weeks pregnant she is running out of time as she lies in a vegetative state on life support.

Carrie's husband, Nick, said that his wife's diagnosis was "his worst nightmare." After tons of severe headaches, Nick knew something was wrong when Carrie woke up vomiting one morning. His suspicions were unfortunately correct, and doctors diagnosed Carrie with glioblastoma, an aggressive malignant tumor that can affect the brain and spinal cord, and gave the mom about five years to live. Since then, Carrie has undergone four major brain surgeries and her health has quickly declined.

Doctors told Carrie she would die if she decided to move forward with her pregnancy, but the mom didn't care. "It was Carrie's decision and I said 'What do you want to do?' She said, 'We're keeping it,'" Nick told People. "She's going to miss us, but she knows this life is so quick and we'll see each other again in Heaven. Knowing that gives her hope and, I know it's crazy, but I support her decision."

Carrie and Nick are parents to five other children - Elijah, 18, Isaiah, 16, Nevaeh, 11, Leila, 4, and Jez, 1 - in addition to their unborn daughter, who they've named Life. Doctors hope that Carrie can make it at least seven more weeks to give Life the best chance at a safe delivery and survival. However, Carrie suffered a stroke two weeks ago and hasn't yet gained consciousness back. "I don't know if she hears me, but I tell her I love her every day. . . ." Nick said. "I look at her face and know this is what she wants and it gives me comfort. But right now, it's a race against time."

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help eliminate some of the financial burden the family has faced since Nick quit his job to be with Carrie full time. The devoted husband said he "couldn't be more proud" of his wife, adding, "She made the decision to give Life a chance at life."

With Just 2 Photos, This Mom Shows What It's Really Like to Have Postpartum Depression

You'd never know it by looking at her Facebook feed, but Kathy DiVincenzo has postpartum depression. Like many of us who hide our true selves behind highly curated photos and filters, this mom of two has suppressed a side of her that's just as real as the one she lets the rest of the world see.

"I work twice as hard to hide this reality from you because I'm afraid to make you uncomfortable," Kathy, who also suffers from anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder, wrote in a moving Facebook post. "I'm afraid you'll think I'm weak, crazy, a terrible mother, or the other million things my mind convinces me of and I know I'm not alone in those thoughts."

To better describe her dual realities, Kathy posted two photos of herself - one, the vision of motherly perfection, and the other, an honest look at what those first months of new motherhood often look like . . . exhausted, erratic, unhappy.

"I feel like it's time to show you what that can really look like, not just the side of me that's 'Facebook worthy," she continued. "The truth is, both of these pictures represent my life depending on the day. I would only ever comfortably share one of these realities though and that's the problem. The only thing more exhausting than having these conditions is pretending daily that I don't."

Her goal in sharing her true self - or selves, rather - with the world?

"We need to stop assuming that the postpartum period is always euphoric, because for one in seven it's not," she said. "We need to start asking new parents how they're doing in a deeper way than the normal, 'so how are you doing?' that triggers the knee jerk, 'everything's great!' response."

13-Year-Old Sobs Tears of Sheer Joy Over Her Mom's Pregnancy Announcement

Surprising The Kiddos!

"I was 17 and still in High School when our daughter was born. I wasn't sure how I would do it but I was determined to be the best mom I could be. My now husband stepped in when she was very young and has been a wonderful Daddy to her ever since. She is 13 now and is a beautiful dancer with a kind heart. When she was 9, her spunky, sweet, and hilarious little brother was born. It felt like the first time all over again but our family felt complete. He's 5 now and being a working mom with both kids involved in sports and a very busy life, I have always maintained that I was done having babies. 6 weeks ago we found out that I am pregnant. Once the initial shock wore off all we could think about was telling the kids. Last week, my husband picked up our daughter from a 2 week-long trip to visit family. When they came home, we gave each of the kids a little gift bag to open and their reactions were priceless! Our daughter sobbed in excitement and our son was in disbelief until he finally proclaimed YAY! I couldn't have asked for a better reaction.

Parenting is HARD. It is long nights, fevers and skinned knees. It is sewing dance costumes at 11 PM, math problems you don't understand and tears…so many tears. It is by far the hardest yet most rewarding thing I have ever done and I can't wait to do it all over again. We are so blessed."

A Love What Matters Original Story

Posted by Love What Matters on Wednesday, August 9, 2017

Once the initial shock of finding out she was pregnant with her third child wore off, Alicia Tebbetts Capello and her husband couldn't wait to announce the news to her 13-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son. At nine weeks pregnant, Alicia wrapped up t-shirts for her two kids, one that read "Biggest" for Lexi and a matching one for Nicky that said "Middlest." As soon as she read her little brother's shirt, Lexi didn't even need to see the matching "Littlest" onesie her mom was holding out to realize what the gifts meant.

In a video posted to Facebook, the teen immediately breaks down into tears while her brother stands off to the side, convinced the news is a total joke. "We gave each of the kids a little gift bag to open and their reactions were priceless!" Alicia shared with the Love What Matters. "Our daughter sobbed in excitement and our son was in disbelief until he finally proclaimed 'YAY!' I couldn't have asked for a better reaction."

Although Alicia was convinced that after having Nicky she was done with babies, the mom could not be happier about baby number three being on the way. "Parenting is HARD," she wrote. "It is long nights, fevers, and skinned knees. It is sewing dance costumes at 11 p.m., math problems you don't understand, and tears . . . so many tears. It is by far the hardest yet most rewarding thing I have ever done and I can't wait to do it all over again. We are so blessed."

How a Mom of 3 Created the Most Efficient Kitchen Ever

Despite having two young daughters and a newborn baby girl, Lay Baby Lay blogger Joni Lay's kitchen is serenity personified. That wasn't always the case, though. Like many people who loathe their kitchens, Joni's biggest gripe with her pre-renovation kitchen was the lack of storage and inefficient use of space.

The chaos of her cramped kitchen only felt heightened by the dated design features she and husband Chip inherited when they bought the house - think black-and-white checkerboard floors and particleboard countertops. When an opportunity to work with Home Depot on a kitchen renovation arose, Joni and Chip jumped at the chance to wipe the kitchen slate clean, and the result is pretty breathtaking.

4 Things to Know Before Getting Your Child a Cell Phone

Backpack – check. Lunch box – check. Cell phone – what? You may not believe it, but a cell phone has become just as much of a school necessity as a backpack and number two pencils for many kids. And while the idea of getting your elementary school student or tween a phone may sound like ludicrous, consider this – phones aren't just for fun; parents are getting them for their kids in order to keep in touch with them after school and during "open lunch" periods.

"Schools are issuing technology a lot, and technology is in our kids' lives much younger and much quicker," shares Janell Burley Hofmann, author of iRules: What Every Tech-Healthy Family Needs to Know About Selfies, Sexting, Gaming and Growing Up. "We have seen that shift just in three years . . . that it is just ever present and it is not really an option to avoid it all together."

But before running out and buying your child a top of the line (or even basic) phone, families must consider what's right for them. Before giving her 13-year-old son a phone, Janell created an 18-point iPhone contract outlining how the phone could be used. The contract went viral almost immediately after she posted it. "I just wanted to have these points in place," Janell says. "Then over the years, as I saw my son really integrate the technology into his life in a healthy way, those points could loosen up while still having the core philosophies behind them."

"I think it is part of the health and wellness conversation right now and we want to have healthy habits with technology right now."

So just what are the key points families should consider before giving their kids phones? Read on to see Janell's advice.

10 Tips For How to Book a Cruise That Isn't Crazy Expensive

Cruising is a favorite mode of travel for many people, but it's not without its drawbacks. There's often a bunch of unexpected hidden charges, and you may find the big vacation splurge you saved for ended up a lot more expensive than planned. That said, there are lots of ways to score a better deal than you may have imagined possible.

To find the best deals on cruises, try waiting until Wave Season, which takes place from January through March. "It's basically a period of time where all of the cruise lines come up with their best promotions of the year to incentivize travelers to book nice and early," said Allison Kobasky, co-owner of Over the Moon Vacations, a luxury travel-planning company.

During this promo period, you'll find everything from discounted cruise fares to added perks such as unlimited beverage packages, shore excursion credits, prepaid gratuities, and onboard spending money. Here are all of the ways you can save when booking a cruise.

1. It pays to be local

If there's a cruise port in your state, you're in luck. Many cruise lines offer resident discounts that shave up to 40 percent off regular cruise fares. "If you can travel last-minute, the savings are even better," said Kobasky. "We find that cruise lines offer their unsold cabins at majorly discounted resident rates about a week before sailing, assuming those are the people that can hop on the ship with only a few days' notice." If the price goes down or a better promotion comes out before you've made final payment, you can always have your price adjusted. Trick of the trade!

2. Book early

"As supply and demand would indicate, cruise lines generally have the best offers further from the sailing date," said Lori Sheller, the vice president of cruise development for Tourico Holidays. If you wait until the last minute, you risk higher prices and limited cabin inventory.

3. Take a peek at the last minute

That considered, if you're the spontaneous type or you just didn't have the foresight to book early, you may not be completely out of luck. "Check sites like LastMinuteTravel.com. Oftentimes if cruises have a few extra rooms they need to sell before launch date, they'll offer them at killer rates," said Sheller.

4. Look for deals

Sign up to receive emails from all your favorite travel deal websites for promotions and last-minute deals. For example, sign up for CruCon Cruise Outlet's weekly email and receive deal alerts from all of the major cruise lines that can save you up to 80 percent off the cruise line direct prices. Also, research coupons, deals, and cash-back options. You can also sign up for cash-back sites such as TopCashback.com and receive cash back on your cruise purchases through third-party sites. Stacking sales is a great way to get the most bang for your buck. Expedia offers 12 percent cash back, Princess Cruises offers three percent cash back, and Orbitz offers $40 cash back.

There are also apps that offer serious deals. "Free on iOS and Android, Cruise Deals App allows the user to set her own price. As an example, choose 'New York City' as a departure port and $60 as a max price per night. You'll get a push notification when a cruise is offered out of NYC at that price," said Jeremy Camosse, owner of TheMusterStation.com. Once you've booked, download Ship Mate iOS or Android. You can set a price alert for your sailing. "If the price of your cruise moves by more than one percent, you'll get a notification. If your price drops, you can often recover the difference in onboard credit," said Carmosse.

5. Get the drinks package

Snagging a cruise offer that includes unlimited drinks is key - you don't realize how often you'll order a cocktail at the pool or a bottle of wine at dinner - and it really adds up. "Travelzoo often runs cruise deals with unlimited drink packages, and the value is immense. You won't have to worry about footing a hefty bill at the end of your trip," said travel and lifestyle expert Tara Kraft from Travelzoo.

6. Pay more upfront to save more later

The upfront cost of a luxury cruise line like Regent might seem a bit daunting, but when you factor in that everything is included (airfare, premium drinks, shore excursions, etc.) and the high-quality cuisine and service you're getting, it's completely worth it, said Kraft.

7. Try a travel agent

Consider leaving the deal search to the expert. Cruise agents will save you time and money. "They get you the best discounts and amenities (gifts, shipboard credit, etc.)," said Sheller. After all, they're professionals.

8. Prebook shore excursions

Make the most of your destination cruise experience. "Whether through the cruise line or third-party shore-excursion companies, book your activities in advance and save big," said Sheller.

9. Tour share with other cruisers

"If you're looking for shore excursions that won't break the bank, consider sharing a tour with fellow cruisers - you can explore independent excursions options, then split the cost across the group. To meet others you'll be cruising with, Cruise Critic offers Roll Calls, where you can meet and interact with other cruisers who will be sailing with you. One caveat: if your tour runs late, the cruise ship isn't obligated to wait for cruisers who booked their own excursions (they will for those who booked through the cruise line), so be sure your tours give plenty of time to return to the ship prior to its departure," said Colleen McDaniel, senior executive editor of Cruise Critic.

10. Disconnect

WiFi packages on ships are very expensive and the service leaves a lot to be desired, cautioned Sheller. Turn off your data roaming and disconnect - you're on vacation!

How Parisians Do Small-Space Living

It seems there's nothing the French can't do stylishly - even decorate a micro living space. She describes the space as "a little nest - warm and happy - where I make the rules." Éléonore has redone the entire layout since moving in three years ago, and she continues to experiment with new ways to make the space better, most recently by teaming up with Ikea.

Gendry's Giant Hammer Is Much More Significant Than You Realize

On Sunday's Game of Thrones, Ser Davos Seaworth takes Tyrion to King's Landing for a parlay with his brother, Jaime, but Davos has another errand in mind while they're there: running to Flea Bottom real quick and picking up Gendry, the last surviving bastard of Robert Baratheon, to come fight for Jon Snow in the war against the Night King.

When Ser Davos tells Gendry he might want to bring a sword for the coming war, Gendry responds, "I don't know much about swinging swords, but this? This I know," as he picks up a badass piece of weaponry.

So what's up with the giant hammer?

Well, Gendry's father, Robert Baratheon, was known for his war hammer. In fact, he used it to kill Prince Rhaegar Targaryen during his rebellion against Mad King Aerys II, which happened years before the events of the books/show.

But Gendry has his own war hammer - complete with a Baratheon stag on one end - which he wields sufficiently to kill two Gold Cloaks who are threatening Davos, Tyrion, and Gendry's escape from King's Landing after Tyrion meets with Jaime to discuss an armistice. Gendry doesn't exactly know what he's getting himself into at this point, but he doesn't really care.

"You came to get me; you want me to come with you," he says to Davos in Flea Bottom. "I'm ready; let's go . . . what do you think I've been thinking about with every swing of the hammer? How happy I am making weapons for the family that killed my father? The family that tried to kill me? I've been getting ready. I never knew what for, but I've always known I'd know it when it comes."

So Gendry and his war hammer are united with Jon Snow and his wildlings to raid beyond the wall in an effort to convince the Southerners that White Walkers actually exist. They've also made a pact with the Brotherhood Without Banners, who Gendry is naturally suspicious of, since they sold him as a blood sacrifice to Melisandre for two bags of gold because the Red Priestess thought killing a king's offspring would put Stannis on the throne.

But it hardly matters now. As Jon Snow says, since they're all breathing, they have a common enemy in the Army of the Dead, and if they don't come together to fight the Night King, they're not going to be breathing for much longer.

If You're Running and Aren't Losing Weight, Try This

You've been eating right and exercising for a while, but that stubborn belly fat just won't budge! Along with incorporating foods that fight fat into your diet, here are some ways to burn that pooch away while you are out on a run.

Switch Up Your Pace

Intervals are proven to reduce belly fat and rev up metabolism; instead of running at the same pace for the entire workout, try alternating between periods of pushing your body to the max and periods of recovery. Here's a list of interval workouts for you to try:

Go a Little Longer

Unfortunately you can't spot treat when it comes to weight loss, which is one reason solely doing crunches won't whittle your waistline. The key is to decrease overall body fat, and the one way to do that is to burn calories. Lengthening your workout will do just that. Every five minutes of running at a 10-minute-per-mile pace burns about 45 calories. Think about that on your next run, and it'll motivate you to keep going!

High Knees

You're working hard to diminish your overall body weight, which will slim down your belly so you can reveal toned abs underneath. Here's one way to strengthen your core. Do one-minute intervals in which you run with high knees (like in this cardio workout you can do in your living room). Concentrate on using your abs rather than your leg muscles to kick your knees up as high as you can.

Try This Killer Treadmill Move

Here's another core killer if you're using a treadmill. Set the pace to 1.0 mph. Place your feet on a Plyo Box that's set up about two feet behind the back of the treadmill. Come into plank position with your hands straddling the treadmill belt. Step your hands on the belt and start walking, keeping your torso in one straight line. Do this for one minute, pulling your belly in toward your spine. Watch the above shredmill move in action here!

Here's How to Feel Energized - Not Destroyed - When You Work Out

You're not going to have perfect energy levels during every workout, but there are some things you can do to give yourself an advantage. If you've ever left a workout feeling absolutely destroyed, wondering where those endorphins were hiding, then this one's for you.

Stay Hydrated

Crunch Fitness Group Fitness Director Michelle Opperman told POPSUGAR the "absolute number one rule" for having energy is "being hydrated." Make sure you're drinking enough water before you start your workout, during your workout, and after your workout. Dehydration can cause feelings of fatigue, faintness, and dizziness.

Don't Overexercise

You don't have to work out for hours to get results - you can keep it short and sweet! "I think most believe the longer their workout, the better," said Opperman. "But it's really about working out smart and having a plan going in." She recommended HIIT - high intensity interval training - "which is a mix of higher and lower intensities," she said. "I go all out for short bursts, keeping my heart rate up, which means I can work out for less time." This, in turn, leads to feeling energized, not exhausted.

Rise and Shine

Try working out in the morning, if your schedule permits. You may not feel as tired from the workday, and you may feel more of a boost by using exercise to wake yourself up.

Drink Some Coffee

Not only does caffeine help you burn more calories during exercise, but it'll give you a supercharged energy boost, too. Try adding some coffee to your pre-workout smoothie, and you'll have an uplifting breakfast that'll help you power through your sweat session.

Have Fun

Our favorite tip! Having fun is essential to fitness success, and Opperman agrees. "I think it is important to enjoy your workouts," she said. "The beauty of fitness now is there is so much to choose from," and it's true: there are a million different types of classes and workouts! "I believe if you love the class or type of workout you are doing, you will feel more energized during and after . . . and more likely to continue."

Rest and Recover

Recovery and proper body care are paramount to maintaining energy not just during your workout, but also throughout the week. Opperman emphasized how a rest day each week is imperative to prevent burnout. Cut yourself some slack! Trainer and wellness coach Caroline Jordan told POPSUGAR, "Listen to your body; respect it and rest. Go with the flow of what your body needs each day so that you can progress." She mentioned that you don't always have to "stick to a rigid plan because you feel you have to."

In addition to rest days, foam rolling - before the workout! - can also help. "When I take the time to foam roll before a workout, it promotes circulation and relieves tension in the muscles," said Opperman. "This allows me to move more efficiently and not waste energy."

5 Moves to Work Your Core That Aren't Crunches

20 Reasons Halle Berry Is the Hottest 51-Year-Old We Know

Are you thinking what we're thinking? Halle Berry has discovered the Fountain of Youth, right? Today, the bombshell actress celebrates her 51st birthday, and honestly, she doesn't look like she's a day over 25. She knows how to highlight her enviable frame, opting for formfitting Dolce & Gabbana sheaths and Roberto Cavalli pantsuits on the red carpet, but she also knows that the key to styling success is to never overdo a good thing. Thus, Halle consistently sticks to a "less is more" mantra, always choosing understated accessories and au naturel makeup and hair over more-opulent accents. To top it all off, she's one serious actress - with an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and a SAG Award to prove it. She's making it all too easy for us to be totally jealous of her, but the truth is, she's pretty awesome. In honor of her birthday, here are our 20 reasons Halle Berry is the hottest 51-year-old we know.

In Defense of "Wasting Time" - and Why It Actually Makes You a Better Employee

Call it whatever you'd like - zoning out, lollygagging, daydreaming - the fact remains that spending time focusing on anything but work is typically seen as an embarrassing lack of productivity. There's a grueling prevailing belief in the American workplace that the more hours you log working, the better you are at your job, when the reality is that all work and no play really does make you a dull (or anxious/exhausted/resentful/depressed/sick) person.

What will make you a better worker? Zoning out and giving your brain some much-needed downtime. As Olivia Goldhill writes in a piece for Quartz, we live in "a culture of relentless productivity" to the point where we actually feel guilty for taking necessary work breaks or working fewer hours per day. If we do allow ourselves a break, we furtively spend it doing something joyless and unfulfilling: "Sitting at our desk, in front of our computer, browsing websites and contributing to neither our happiness nor our productivity."

Instead, we should truly "waste time" by going for a walk, lounging in a park, or just staring out the window and thinking about nothing in particular. Even binge-watching TV shows (as long as you really enjoy it and don't berate yourself for being "lazy") can have a psychologically relieving effect. Goldhill quotes psychologist Michael Guttridge, who says, "Wasting time is about recharging your battery and de-cluttering," which frees up precious space in your brain, allowing you to perform more efficiently at work.

The bottom line is that worshiping productivity and downplaying relaxation is not only unhealthy, it's totally unnecessary. As Goldhill points out, "work expands to fill the time it's given and for most of us, we could spend considerably fewer hours at the office and still get the same amount done." So it's worth experimenting with this idea - adjusting the balance of time spent working and time spent "lounging around." Most likely your productivity level won't change, but your sense of calm and fulfillment just might.

These Victoria Justice Looks Show She's Not Afraid to Take a Fashion Risk

It was 2005 when Victoria Justice first came into our lives as part of Nickelodeon's Zoey 101, but we feel like it wasn't until 10 years later that we really got to know the Puerto-Rican-American actress. We discovered that she's a lip-syncing master, a big fan of Amy Winehouse, the holder of a supersexy bikini body, all of us on Snapchat, and a boss-like fashion adventurer.

There's not a print or funky-shaped outfit that Victoria would say no to; there's not a cutout that could be misplaced or a jumpsuit too eclectic or risky. If it's fun and loud and never been worn on the red carpet before, Victoria is game! Keep scrolling to see all the times she shocked us with her look in the past couple of years, and then check out her Hollywood evolution.

How Chick-fil-A Makes It Fully Acceptable to Eat Nuggets For Breakfast

Thanks to the explosive popularity of breakfast bowls, Chick-fil-A is adding one to its menu nationwide. The new Hash Brown Scramble ($5) comes in your choice of bowl or burrito and layers tot-style hash browns, scrambled eggs, a Monterey Jack and cheddar cheese blend, and either Chick-fil-A chicken nuggets or sausage. Each is served with a side of jalapeño salsa to spice things up. It's now fully acceptable to eat chicken nuggets for breakfast. This adulting thing is turning out to be easier than we thought.

Selena Gomez's Fall Outfit Trick Will Impress Even Her Most Loyal Followers

As far as fashion is concerned, celebrities don't typically switch up their style from season to season. When we browsed through her most notable Fall outfits, we quickly identified the star's most trustworthy trick.

From late August to early December, Selena doesn't leave the building without either toting a coat, wearing one on her shoulders, or slipping into a long-sleeved sweater. Breast Cancer

"Tiger Eye" Hair Color Is the It Dye Trend For 2017

When it comes to subtle ombré fades and highlights on the hair, we've seen everything from balayage to tortoiseshell and ecaille take off. Recently, we learned about the a technique called "tiger eye," which is inspired by the tiger eye stone. The pretty pebble is thought to have healing powers, so choosing it as a Winter hair color means you'll start the new year off with good vibes.

Honey Artists hairstylist Corey Tuttle told Byrdie, "A tiger eye is an ancient stone worn for protection and confidence - it's known for its rich browns and golds." These colors are seen blended through strands using a technique that is similar to balayage. Tuttle advises to ask your colorist for "hand-painted caramel highlights paired with a warm or dark chocolate base." And like balayage, it grows out seamlessly, since the roots are not necessarily dyed.

Celebrities like Jessica Alba (pictured) and Jennifer Lopez have rocked tiger eye hair, and as the fad grows, we predict it will be a hot salon staple for the start of Fall.

This Muslim Bride Wore Zero Makeup at Her Wedding - and Why She Did It Is Eye-Opening

Image Source: Courtesy of Tasnim Jara

For many women, a wedding is the time to go full-on, head-to-toe glam. It's the reason they do countless trials with multiple makeup artists before picking a final beauty look. It's why they spend thousands on (often multiple!) dresses and diamonds. New bride Tasnim Jara, however, decided to do the opposite. She wore zero makeup, didn't buy a new gown, and wore no jewelry to prove a powerful point about the way women get pressured by societal beauty standards.

Jara, president of Aroggo, a healthtech startup in Bangladesh, wrote about her experience in a public post on Facebook. "I was troubled by the singular image of a bride that our society has - with tons of makeup, a weighty dress and mounds of jewelry weighing her down," she wrote, further explaining that people have come to measure a woman's financial success, family status, and more based on how she physically looks at her wedding. On top of that, within the Muslim community, traditional weddings often have brides wearing piles of gold bracelets, necklaces, and head ornaments on top of elaborate, heavy makeup.

"I have hardly attended any wedding where I didn't overhear people gossiping: 'Is the bride pretty enough?' 'How much gold does she have on?'" Jara continued, "Growing up listening to these questions, a bride feels pressured to look for the best makeup artist in town, pays a hefty amount in time, money, and energy, and ends up looking nothing like herself."

A bride feels pressured to look for the best makeup artist in town, pays a hefty amount in time, money, and energy, and ends up looking nothing like herself.

Jara revealed that she faced resistance from her family for her decision to go all-natural on her big day - she claims some didn't even want to take a photo with her because she didn't look like their image of a bride. Using her personal story, she pleaded with people to think critically about emphasizing too much importance on makeup and adornments.

"I feel that we need to change this mindset. A girl should not need a whitening lotion, a gold necklace, or an expensive sari to be accepted as a bride or to make her feel confident," she wrote, sharing that on top of wearing no makeup or accessories, she wore a hand-me-down sari from her grandmother. "People may call it simple, but it was very special to me, for what I believe in and what it means to me."

She made sure to emphasize that she isn't judgmental of or against women who want to wear makeup or expensive clothes ("I am all in for that," she said). She did explain, however, "It is a problem when she loses her agency in deciding what she would like to wear on her wedding day. When society forces her to doll up and look like a different person, it gives a message that the authentic look of a girl isn't good enough for her own wedding."

At the end of her note, she thanked her new husband: "Special shoutout to this person beside me, Khaled, who has not only supported me unconditionally but also beamed at me with so much pride for taking a stance against the stereotypes."

Props to Jara for staying true to herself. It's so real: brides-to-be face absurd expectations to look perfect on their wedding day. Let her story be a reminder that, at the end of the day, it's your face and your body and you should do whatever makes you feel like the best version of yourself no matter what people say.

This Baby Bachelor in Paradise Spoof Will Make You Laugh For All the Wrong Reasons

Jimmy Kimmel is known for his intense love of The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and Bachelor in Paradise. The late-night host is so into the dating "reality" show that he usually has the couples come on his show during their whirlwind press tour following the final rose. But this week he decided to take things even further by creating his own show spinoff, Baby Bachelor in Paradise, ahead of the real reality show's season four premiere, and it's hilarious. Not only does the adorable cast feature signature Bachelor Nation personalities, including "the crazy one," but their professions are also enough to make you choke with laughter. For example, Alex, a 50-month-old vape shop owner, recently got out of prison for setting fire to a meth lab. We promise you won't regret pressing play.

Once Upon a Time: Regina Reunites With Henry in New Photos, but There's a Catch

Once Upon a Time is undergoing a major reboot next season, but that doesn't mean it will be completely unrecognizable to fans. Even though some of our favorite characters won't be returning as regulars (don't worry, some are already slated for cameos), the show is still staying true to its main theme: hope. And that's not the only similarity it will have with past seasons.

As a new book is opened and new stories are told, Regina, Rumple, and Hook will face yet another curse as they are transported to Hyperion Heights in Seattle, WA. While the Comic-Con trailer dropped a few breadcrumbs about what's to come, we finally have a handful of season-seven photos to piece everything together.

We got the first look at Hook's new identity, Officer Rogers, in the season-seven trailer, and now we finally have the first look at Regina, or should we say, Roni? That's right, the former mayor of Storybrooke is now a jeans-wearing bar owner. "She's no longer in charge," actress Lana Parrilla revealed. "We've always seen Regina in charge, and then she redeemed herself, but this Regina is something else." Not only is Roni a little rough around the edges, but she also won't recognize Henry as her son, similar to when Emma unknowingly befriended her mom in season one. Can you hear our Regal Believer hearts breaking?

Don't worry though, Regina (and Hook) will have a reunion with adult Henry via flashbacks. As for Rumple, the creators are keeping a tight-lip on his cursed persona, but fans are theorizing he's playing a a bad detective named Crocker. We'll have to wait until Oct. 6 to know for sure, but until then, enjoy these season-seven photos.

20 Photos That Prove Above-the-Elbow Tattoos Are Secretly Sexy

When it comes to deciding to get a tattoo, where you place it is just as important as what you're getting inked. There's something a little secretive and sexy about the area - you can't directly see it yourself, nor can others see it when they're facing you. It's the ideal canvas for first-timers (especially if you're thinking of getting a tiny tattoo) and a pleasantly unexpected new spot for those who've tattooed everywhere else.

Marble Lips Are the Mesmerizing Makeup Trend We Can't Get Enough Of

If you fell head over heels for the marble nail art trend last year, you'll become full-on obsessed with the latest way these streaky stones are infiltrating our beauty routines: marbled lips.

These luxe pouts have started flooding Instagram, with makeup artists puckering up to show off their glam variations of the trend. Some simply combine shades of white, gray, and black, while others opt for vibrant hues like blue and purple and even incorporate strokes of gold. Meanwhile, I can barely even apply regular ol' red lipstick without messing something up, but I digress . . .

Mastering this picture-worthy makeup look may seem complex, but it's actually pretty uncomplicated, as there's really no science behind the "perfect" marble lips. To DIY this viral pout in the tried-and-true muted color scheme, simply cover your lips with a white base, use a fine brush to apply random strokes of gray and black, and top them off with a swipe of clear gloss for a shiny finish. It's as easy as that!

Ahead, watch a step-by-step video tutorial to learn how to craft these lips IRL, followed by a captivating array of marble lip art looks from all over Instagram.

The Inspiring Reason These Moms Got Matching Tattoos

When I was training for my first marathon, for which I was entirely out of my league, I reached a point where the fear I wouldn't be able to actually finish the race started to consume me. I had announced I was running the marathon all over social media and had raised several thousand dollars for Every Mother Counts, the nonprofit whose charity running team I had joined. As the training mileage got longer and more demanding, my runs got slower and more painful. I was overcome with the certainty I'd embarrass myself and let my donors down.

Intellectually, I knew my fear was misplaced. The people who had donated to my charity fundraiser were happy to support the cause whether I could run all 26.2 miles or not. Nobody on social media likely cared much about whether or not I finished, either. The race would be hard no matter how much natural talent I had or how perfect of a training plan I followed - that's just part of the deal with running your first marathon. So what was I so afraid of, really?

I called my best friend, whose name also happens to be Anna. I had noticed that when I talked about the marathon, I kept saying, "I have fear about the race," rather than, "I am afraid." I sounded like a bad English translator, but the words just kept coming out that way. Anna has a Master's Degree in Writing and is my go-to source any time I have a grammar conundrum. I thought perhaps she'd have some insight about why we say "I am afraid" in English, which is so all-encompassing, defining one's entire self, and why so many other languages say instead, "I have fear," which felt like a more accurate way to describe how I was feeling - fear was there, but so many other emotions were present as well.

We talked about how fear can be a gatekeeper for change, even when that change might be something really good. We talked about how instead of running away when we feel fear, there is so much to be gained from getting close to it, curious to see what change might exist on the other side.

Ultimately, Anna didn't have the answer to my question. But she did have a story about bison.

Some people think this is because they instinctively understand that the best way out is through and that attempting to run away from the storm will simply prolong their exposure to the elements.

She explained that bison are one of the only animals that, when a storm is coming, choose to head directly into the storm. Some people think this is because they instinctively understand that the best way out is through and that attempting to run away from the storm will simply prolong their exposure to the elements. Some people think bison have learned that where the storm has been, the vegetation has been watered and is therefore more abundant. Either way, time and time again, when a storm rolls in, bison sidle up into their herds, put their heads down, and walk directly into it, through it.

Anna came upon this anecdote years earlier when she was in the process of adopting her oldest son through the foster system. It was a grueling process, one in which she spent months unsure if she'd get to be this child's forever mother. When the storm of fear and doubt and worst-case scenarios threatened to blow down the door of her life, she'd think of the bison. She'd think of what might be on the other side of this storm, not just for her, but for her son, too. And then she'd put her head down and move forward, as mothers do.

Anna and I have sidled up next to each other through all kinds of storms. We went to the same college and became friends shortly after I graduated, while she was still in school. I married my college sweetheart when I was just 21 years old, the summer between my junior and senior years. When Anna got engaged to her college sweetheart, with plans for a pre-senior-year Summer wedding, a mutual friend set us up on a coffee date. It's a wild thing to do, to get married at 21, and perhaps there are inherent commonalities present in anyone crazy enough to do it. Or maybe we just liked each other. Either way, we connected immediately and navigated those early years of marriage together, learning how to grow up without growing apart.

We sidled up to each other as we figured out our careers, too. I went into advertising sales and then pharmaceutical sales, learning how to be a professional and hit a sales quota and negotiate a raise. She went into marketing at a start-up and learned how to draw clear boundaries, even as the lowest man on the totem pole.

We traveled to London and Spain with our husbands and danced on tables in Las Vegas with our girlfriends. We started blogs and proofread for each other.

We became mothers. In one of the most serendipitous coincidences of our friendship, we had both been drawn to the idea of adoption since we were teenagers. Maybe that's one of the reasons we held each other so close during the marriage-building and career-building and character-building years of our early 20s - perhaps we knew how much we'd need each other later.

She threw me a baby shower when I was pregnant with my my first son, who was 7 months old when she called to tell me that she was on her way to meet a baby boy in foster care who needed a family. Just one year later, I called to tell her the same thing. Eventually she and her husband officially adopted their son, and my husband and I officially adopted ours. In the following years she gave birth to two daughters, and now our five children giggle and wonder at how silly it is that their moms have the same name. They don't know about the storms we walked through to get here, to get them, to give them each other. But they know their moms have walked together, side by side.

For a season we were stay-at-home moms, now living in different cities but supporting each other all the same. I went back to work, and Anna went back to school. She got a job teaching writing as a college professor, and I quit my corporate job to pursue freelance writing full time. These were big, scary decisions. But we suspected there was something good on the other side, and we knew we didn't have to walk there alone.

The bison has been a touchpoint for us in understanding these storms, getting through them, and finding abundance on the other side. "Like the bison," we've said to each other, quietly and knowingly, nudging each other along.

The bison has been a touch point for us in understanding these storms, getting through them, and finding abundance on the other side.

We joked that we should get matching bison tattoos, which seemed slightly ridiculous considering neither of us had any tattoos and we were in our mid-30s. But then it didn't seem like a joke, and it didn't seem that ridiculous. But the right design and the right time never really presented themselves, and maybe that was a sign or something.

Earlier this year, along with eight other writers from the Coffee + Crumbs blog, we coauthored a book titled The Magic of Motherhood, filled with some of our most honest and raw stories about all the ways motherhood has broken our hearts - usually for better and sometimes for worse. The day I got my first copy of that book in the mail - a real book with a beautiful hardbound cover containing the credentials of a fancy New York publisher - the first thing I saw was my name, right next to her name. I broke down and wept.

We were on the other side. Sure, there will be plenty more storms to roll in and threaten to blow the doors down again. But we've weathered so many storms together, and that book felt like tangible proof of the abundance we've found on the other side . . . on the other side of being young brides, on the other side of finding our vocation, on the other side of adoption, on the other side of childbirth, on the other side of 30th birthdays and 10-year wedding anniversaries and becoming published authors. On the other side, like the bison.

A week before the release party for the book, I texted her: We should get the matching bison tattoo when we're together for the party. She replied immediately: I was already thinking about that so obviously the answer is yes.

We took to the internet and finally found a design we loved, courtesy of artist Tim Cheneval. I solicited a tattoo artist recommendation from a friend with a full sleeve of tattoos and made an appointment for 10 p.m. two days before our book release party. We awkwardly explained our story to the big, bearded tattoo artist (who looks exactly the way you think he would). He told us he liked the design, and he dipped his tattoo needle into black ink to permanently etch into our forearms the outline of a bison with its head down, charging forward, come what may, toward our hearts.

Why It Took Queen Elizabeth II 5 Days to Publicly Address Princess Diana's Death

Image Source: Getty / Graeme Robertson

It's been nearly 20 years since Princess Diana's fatal car accident in Paris, and the upcoming anniversary of her death has sparked renewed interest in the tragic event. When news broke that Diana had died in August 1997, Queen Elizabeth II was highly criticized for the way she handled the situation. Many accused her of failing to capture the mood of the nation and faulted her for being aloof in the days following her former daughter-in-law's passing. The queen conveyed a "business-as-usual" message by taking Diana's sons, Prince William and Prince Harry (who were 15 and 12, respectively, at the time), to church at Balmoral in Scotland hours after Prince Charles had broken the news to them. She was also criticized for remaining at her Scotland residence for too long, failing to appear at tributes near Buckingham Palace, and not returning quickly enough to London.

However, according to the queen's first cousin and close friend Margaret Rhodes, the queen's choice to temporarily abandon the people was due to her overwhelming concern for the welfare of her grandchildren, William and Harry. In an interview with CNN back in 2012, Margaret came to the queen's defense, saying, "She was castigated . . . for staying up at Balmoral with the two little boys. She was being a proper granny. What was the point of bringing the boys down to sit in London with nothing to do but sit there feeling sad about mum. Personally, I think I would have behaved in exactly the same way."

It was only when then-Prime Minister Tony Blair intervened that Elizabeth came back to London and acknowledged the public's outpouring of grief. "She made it all right in the end by coming down and looking at all the flowers," Margaret stated. Five days after Diana's death, Elizabeth delivered a live address to the people of England from the Chinese Dining Room at Buckingham Palace. She paid tribute to Diana, calling her "an exceptional and gifted human being," and explained her reason for being at Balmoral, saying, "This week at Balmoral, we have all been trying to help William and Harry come to terms with the devastating loss that they and the rest of us have suffered." She ended her speech with a touching statement: "May those who died rest in peace and may we, each and every one of us, thank God for someone who made many, many people happy."
