Why a Flight Attendant Asked a Mom With a Screaming Baby to Move
One mom was pretty much living the fear of every parent who has ever traveled alone with kids on a recent Southwest flight. She was with her two young girls when, according to a neighbor sitting nearby, her baby burst into a major meltdown. No matter what the mom did, she just couldn't console her baby or put an end to the "very loud" crying fit.
Carrie Jaboor was seated behind the mom and watched as an airline employee walked up to the mom and calmly asked her to come to the back of the plane. However, when she turned around, the exchange was the complete opposite of what she expected. "I looked back and saw him blowing bubbles for the little girl until she stopped crying as he was also giving tissues to the mother and consoling her as she was crying too," Carrie shared with the Love What Matters Facebook page. "There are some seriously kind people in this world."
Although some could have been more than a bit annoyed by the child's crying, this kind flight attendant didn't blame the mom and instead showed compassion to both the parent and her child.
Why 1 of Dany's Dragons Is Even More Significant Because of Jon
"Eastwatch" is a pretty solid episode for dragon-loving Game of Thrones fans. (Wait, are there people who don't love dragons?) First, Drogon breathes even more fire on Daenerys's foes. Then, he and Jon have a very significant up-close-and-personal moment. While Drogon might be hogging the camera this season (and most seasons - CGI budget, anyone?), let's not forget that Dany has a total of three majestic dragons on her side. Earlier in the season, she tells Jon about the origins of two of their names. Did you know that all three are named after significant people in her life?

Filipinos are the second largest Asian American demographic in the country, yet Filipino food has only just begun receiving mainstream recognition. Maybe it's because the first time you saw Filipino food, it was on an episode of Fear Factor or Bizarre Foods. I was certain that by now, everyone in America must have been invited to a Filipino pot luck, complete with a roasted suckling pig, mountains of lumpia, and plastic take-home containers for all guests to make sure they have baon (leftovers) for the next week. Alas, if you haven't experienced the delights of Filipino food yet, I'm glad to be here to share some dishes from my motherland, hopefully disrupting any exotifying stereotypes mainstream media might have painted otherwise.

Let These Before-and-After Playroom Photos Inspire You to Transform Your Space
Whether you've carved out space in your house for a kids' playroom or not, let's face it: it's probably not seeing a ton of play. Most playrooms these days serve as storage for all the toys and games your little ones have accrued over the years. If they do hang out in there, it's not long before they get bored. With ample space and plenty of supplies, how can this be?
We turned to Megan Schiller, founder of The Art Pantry, for answers. She specializes in revitalizing kids' playrooms by turning them into creative spaces to maximize their ingenuity and stimulate their artistic ability.
"Every design choice is rooted in my experience as a preschool teacher and art educator," she tells us. "I think about the ages of the kids, their interests, and how they play. Then I think about how to set up a space that would inspire them to explore, tinker, create, and get lost in their imagination."
Megan answered our nine most frustrating questions about how to create a playroom that keeps kids entertained for hours on end, revealing that it's not all about organization - though a little certainly doesn't hurt - and outlining how parents can let their kids get messy without ruining the furniture. For added inspiration, she also shared before-and-after photos of four different rooms she's revamped so that you can see her advice in action.

Peter Dinklage Leaves Westeros Behind in the Twisty Sci-Fi Mystery Rememory
What if you could hook your brain up to a machine and watch your memories played back as easy as a TV show? It's the invention of such a machine that sets off the thrilling mystery at the heart of sci-fi flick Rememory, which premiered at Sundance earlier this year. Game of Thrones alum Peter Dinklage stars as a mysterious man trying to solve the murder of visionary scientist Gordon Dunn (Martin Donovan) and the twisted, dangerous web of lies that he gets dragged into as he attempts to piece together the puzzle. Anton Yelchin, who tragically died last Summer, also appears in the film, as does Mad Men's Julia Ormond and The 100's Henry Ian Cusick. It hits Google Play on Aug. 24 and arrives in theaters on Sept. 8.
This Blogger Wore 1 Completely Sheer Wedding Dress and Another With a Thigh-High Slit
Leave it to California-based blogger and Are You Am I Creative Director Rumi Neely to start a brand-new bridal trend. Not only did the influencer walk down the aisle at San Ysidro Ranch in a gown with a thigh-high slit, but she also organized a photo shoot of sorts, where she posed in a handful of white looks leading up to her special day.
That included one entirely sheer ruffled mini, and Rumi's barely there bridal bikini fit the bill too. Meanwhile, the slash in her off-the-shoulder, floor-sweeping number makes us wonder if future brides will take a note from Rumi and nix the naked dress for something more leg-baring - even at their own ceremonies.
All the Creepy Posters We've Seen For American Horror Story: Cult
Every day brings us closer to American Horror Story: Cult, and, frankly, we're terrified. Ever since the title surfaced at Comic-Con a few weeks ago, the flow of unsettling details and teasers and more has been pretty constant. But some of the most disturbing imagery from Cult, at least so far, has come in the form of the season's official posters. Straight from the AHS Twitter account (and creator Ryan Murphy), here's everything we've seen and what it could possibly mean.
This Story Behind a Teen Sitting in Class With Her Toddler Brother Is What You Need Today
When Candice Curry called her teenage daughter, Stiles, to pick up her 3-year-old brother at his day care, she was dealing with a family emergency and hoped her 17-year-old would bring her brother home as a favor. However, upon looking at Stiles's Snapchat, Candice was surprised to see a photo of James sitting on his sister's lap in the middle of a high school classroom.
"Instead of missing class she actually took her 3-year-old brother back to high school with her and let him sleep on her while she finished her last class of the day," Candice wrote in a post to Facebook featuring a screen grab of the Snapchat photo. "I'm not sure on the legalities here or what kind of rules were broken but I also just don't care. My sweet teenager helped her family out and returned to her other responsibility while snuggling her baby brother."
Candice says she can't believe how much love the photo has gotten in a few short days. "My daughter, Stiles, is a great teenager and I'm lucky to be her mama," she told POPSUGAR.
The mom noted in her caption that she's either the "worst mom in the world or totally nailing it," but we'd argue strongly for nothing but the latter. We also couldn't agree more with the sentiment she ended her heartfelt post with: "Life is short. These are the moments that make it so incredibly sweet."

Read through to see how 13 kids totally sold their parents out like it was nothing.
I Tried Gordon Ramsay's Famous Chicken Cacciatore, and It's Wildly Easy
Next on your list of basic dishes to master should be Gordon Ramsay's chicken cacciatore, a visually stunning entree of chicken breast in a light tomato sauce with onions, olives, and capers, finished with lemon and basil. A light coating of flour totally transforms the chicken. Notorious for being dry and bland, the chicken breast in this dish is instead moist and perfectly browned, its seared exterior giving way to impeccably tender meat.
The chicken is sauteed in olive oil and a touch of butter for two minutes on each side so it's caramelized and rich in flavor, then set aside. The key to Ramsay's chicken cacciatore, though, is its base of caramelized onions splashed with white wine to create a rich syrup that lends sweetness to the otherwise savory entree. It's so robust that it brings out the natural brightness in the flavors of the tomatoes, olives, and capers, and it's why the chicken needs no seasoning other than salt and pepper.
Once the sauce reduces, the chicken returns to the pan and finishes cooking in the wildly aromatic, simmering sauce. A vibrant medley of olives, capers, diced lemon (yes, diced!), and basil chiffonade (basically, twirled ribbons of basil) is sprinkled over the dish, which looks incredible when served straight from the pan. The best part? It's ready in less than 30 minutes. (And all without Ramsay's infamous yelling.) I was amazed at how each bite was bursting with summery flavor without any additional ingredients. Give this dish a try once, and you'll soon want to make it for every occasion - as both an easy weeknight meal for yourself and as a beautiful, healthy dish for guests.

47 Photos That Show Sofia Vergara's Street Style Has Always Been Fabulous
When Sofia Vergara isn't rocking her usual supersexy red carpet dresses, she is running around the streets of Los Angeles, through New York City, and across the world in something that is not only comfortable but which has a little sensual edge as well. Most of the time, the 45-year-old Colombian actress is wearing jeans and tight top or a body-hugging dress with a pair of heels and some serious arm candy - yes, we are talking about her smoking-hot and supportive husband, Joe Manganiello, but also her stunning bags (she prefers those made by Chloé).
Honestly, what Sofia is wearing or who she is with doesn't make a difference, because she is always the center of attention, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
Last Night's Game of Thrones Lends Some Serious Evidence to This Dragon Theory
Season seven update: Now that Game of Thrones season seven is well underway and Jon Snow has finally met up with dragon queen Daenerys Targaryen and her hand, Tyrion Lannister, this theory about the show's three dragons seems more plausible than ever. In episode five, Jon comes face-to-face with the most savage of Dany's dragons, Drogon, and shocks even Daenerys by essentially cuddling with it.
Drogon, who also burns Sam Tarly's family alive in the episode and is known for occasionally roasting and eating countryside children as snacks back in Meereen, is not exactly a fan of strangers. Upon sniffing Jon Snow's hand, however, Drogon calmly allows himself to be petted, even showing dilated pupils to indicate the dragon's ease. This is likely because he recognizes Jon as a Targaryen, even if nobody else does; and if the fiercest dragon of the three is willing to bow to Jon Snow, then Rhaegal and Viserion would certainly allow Snow to mount and ride them.
We already know that Tyrion is on the dragons' good side after freeing two from the dungeons beneath Meereen, and while he might not have the Targaryen scent, it's likely that one of Daenerys's children would allow him to ride into battle.
So, what would three dragon-riders mean for the realm? Read the original theory below to find out!
Original: Is it possible that Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister, and Jon Snow could all end up winning the Iron Throne by the end of Game of Thrones? The night is dark and full of theories . . . and this is definitely one of the most compelling. Based on evidence from both the book series and the HBO show, GOT fans have compiled a pretty convincing argument that Jon, Tyrion, and Dany are the prophesied "Three Heads of the Dragon." And based on the teaser for season seven, this theory is even more likely to come true.
If this sounds like a foreign language, don't fret - we've laid the theory out for you below, and it might very well make a believer out of you.
The Theory
During Daenerys's time in the House of the Undying, she has a vision of her brother, Rhaegar, stating that "the dragon has three heads." This three-headed dragon theme is reflected in the series in multiple ways: Daenerys has three dragons (Rhaegal, Drogon, and Viserion), the Targaryen house sigil features a three-headed dragon, and Dany's ancestor Aegon Targaryen conquered Westeros alongside his two sisters (all mounted atop dragons). Fans of the series have interpreted the prophecy in the House of Undying to mean that there must be three riders for Daenerys's three dragons before she can win back the Iron Throne.
Presumably, Daenerys herself is one of these dragon riders - after all, she's already ridden Drogon. The obvious choices for the other two riders are Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister. It's been confirmed that Jon is actually of Targaryen lineage, and even if Tyrion isn't related to Jon and Dany, he has a proven connection with dragons.
The Proof
The similarities between Jon, Daenerys, and Tyrion are striking. Orphans who are cast off by society for one reason or another, each of them has an ill-fated love story that is highlighted in the series. One Tumblr user highlighted these parallels in a beautiful chart.
The Parallels Between Tyrion, Jon, and Dany:
- They each descend from an ancient branch of human lineage.
- All three are outcasts in some form or another: one a dwarf, one (raised as) a bastard, and one literally exiled from her homeland.
- They are each the third child in their respective family.
- Each of their mothers tragically died during childbirth.
- All are fatherless.
- Each one has made an unlikely alliance during their rise to power: Tyrion with the mountain clans of the Eyrie, Jon with the Wildlings, and Daenerys with the slaves she's freed.
- They've all had a tragic love story.
Another solid piece of proof comes from the Game of Thrones season seven teaser, which pointedly focuses on a three-headed dragon while Daenerys discusses her father's failings as a ruler. The teaser opens with Dany speaking and concludes with a quote from Jon, hinting that the unraveling of Westeros in the seventh season starts and ends with the two remaining Targaryens. Perhaps it's because they'll each be riding on their own dragon, battling White Walkers beyond the Wall.
Convincing, right? Now the show merely needs to bring the three dragon-riders together so that they can fly, as a united force, to Westeros and take the Iron Throne. Three heads of the dragon are definitely better than one!

What a 25-Year Veteran Teacher Wants Parents to Realize About Kindergarten
For the baby boomers and early Gen Xers, kindergarten was less about academically challenging children and more of a way for kids to socialize. The theory for a long time was that kindergarten was a way to get kids prepared to learn the "real stuff" later.
Now, kindergarten is more like first grade. "With a lot of children going to preschool, the pressure is on for schools to provide advanced standards while at the same time acknowledging that a lot of students are not getting the same," Suzanne Hess, a 25-year veteran teacher who taught predominantly in kindergarten classrooms, tells POPSUGAR.
Certainly this is a special time in a child's life where a lot of fundamental developments are happening. Since parents put a lot of pressure on what children can accomplish during kindergarten, there are some things Hess wants parents to consider.
1. Think about ways to get your child ready.
Regardless of whether or not a child has gone to some form of preschool or was homeschooled, Hess insists that there are some basic skills that will help when starting school. "It would be nice if a child can write their name, can recognize colors, enjoys story time, recognizes some letters, and has some experience with scissors," she began.
However, it's not all about academics when talking about whether or not a child is ready for kindergarten. "Along with academic readiness, parents should also look to see behavior readiness. Things like being able wait for turns, sharing, tolerating disappointment, and being comfortable in a new setting are also important when determining school readiness," Hess maintains.
2. Despite readiness goals, teachers expect a range of skills.
"Parents should understand that the class will have students from all socioeconomic and language-speaking families," she started. "Some children may have none of the experiences to display readiness, to no fault of their own." Socioeconomic disparities aren't the only reason children will have marked differences in their abilities; age also plays a factor.
"Children will be as much as 364 days apart in age, so they will fall into their age and size grouping anywhere from oldest and biggest in the class to youngest and smallest. Little boys tend to have less developed fine motor skills than girls and less control of their bodies at the same age," Hess states.
3. Make it easy on the teacher when considering clothing.
While those adorable Mary Jane buckle shoes really complement her pretty pinafore, Hess urges parents to reconsider. "Please select clothing that your child can put on by himself," she urges. "If your child cannot tie his own shoes, then get shoes that fasten with Velcro. Winter clothing should be easy to put on, and please put names in jackets for easy finding when left on the playground."
4. As hard as it can be, try to not compare one child to another.
Making comparisons to other children, while useful for understanding averages and basic skills, can be troublesome when thinking about kindergarten. Hess explains, "Children develop skills at different rates, and there are a lot of factors that can shift abilities." However, if parents are really concerned about a child's learning progress, she urges them to seek help. "If you have questions or worries, schedule a time to talk to your teacher about them. Your teacher is an expert and will quickly recognize children who are 'out of the norm,' and can refer specialists."
5. Depending on the school, necessary information might take a while to get to the teacher.
Considering that a lot of public schools are strapped for counselors and clerks, it's not unreasonable to think that your child's papers of accommodations and important information might not get to the teacher right away.
"It would be nice if parents informed teachers of allergies or peculiar habits and fears a child may have before school start," she says. "I've had a few who needed their stuffed animal or still sucked a thumb. I had a super shy kid who would wet his pants because he was too shy to ask to use the bathroom. If I had known these things from the beginning, it may have made for an easier transition."
6. Please remember that your child's teacher has other students.
It would be wonderful if all students received all the attention and individually designed curriculum. However, considering that class size can be as many as 30 children, some of the teacher's time is going to be split among other students.
"Your teacher has to provide a curriculum that meets standards while at the same time takes each child from where she is on day one," Hess persists. This means that some things may come easy to your child, but be careful to not assume that they're too easy for the grade level, because "some other child is benefiting and it's an opportunity for the more advanced child to help and get practice."

Game of Thrones Fans Can Travel to This Castle For the Ultimate Winterfell Festival
Now that Winter is here, it's the perfect time to pack your warmest attire and head for your dream vacation waiting in Ireland.
Castle Ward, better known to fans as Winterfell, is an 18-century manor in Northern Ireland and serves as the backdrop for the Stark family home on the HBO show. Now, the castle is hosting a Winterfell Festival worthy of the King in the North, and fans can get in on some serious Game of Thrones action.
Not only can Thrones enthusiasts check out the setting for Winterfell during this immersive one-day festival, but they'll also be able to enjoy the King's Tournament Games, appearances from the dogs that play the Stark family's beloved direwolves, and see Boyd Rankin, who stared as Mikken and crafted Needle, as he showcases weapons that he made for the show. After working up an appetite from the jousting and archery, check out some medieval food, but we recommend staying away from any Frey family pie.
Tickets for the event cost $26, but that's a steal for your chance to be transported to Westeros - without the Army of the Dead marching dangerously close.
The 10 Worst States to Have a Baby
Pregnant women have plenty to be concerned about these days, and although many factors are within our control – eating nutrient-rich foods, drinking plenty of water, and forgoing that third cup of coffee – there are some issues, like genetics or the global Zika epidemic, that are a bit harder to do much about. So, where does the state in which you plan to give birth fall on your priority list?
Following an in-depth study by leading personal finance site WalletHub, you'll want to read on to see if where you plan to give birth is problematic enough to consider crossing state lines.
This year, Vermont leads the US, while Mississippi bottomed out the list, but what to do if you're in one of the 48 other states?
The study's findings aim to give expectant parents an idea of the delivery budget, health care accessibility, and "baby-friendliness" – think maternity leave policies, support group prevalence, and daycare options – of each state by compiling data across 17 key metrics, including hospital C-section instances, the number of midwives and pediatricians per capita, and infant mortality rates.
The 10 Best States to Have a Baby
- Vermont
- Minnesota
- New Hampshire
- Connecticut
- North Dakota
- Massachusetts
- Maine
- Utah
- Iowa
- Nebraska
The 10 Worst States to Have a Baby
- Arkansas
- New Mexico
- Georgia
- Florida
- South Carolina
- Alabama
- West Virginia
- Nevada
- Louisiana
- Mississippi
Regardless of where your state ranks overall (the complete list can be found at WalletHub), you'll want to see how it fares on the individual categories that matter most to you. Some highlights:
- Birth Weight: If you want a healthy-size baby, take note that Alaska has the lowest number of babies born with a low birth weight, with only a 5.9 percent instance. In Mississippi, that rate is the highest.
- Baby Costs: Although it is definitively the worst overall state for giving birth, Mississippi does have the lowest annual infant care costs – which covers ongoing needs, including diapers, and one-time expenses like cribs and strollers – of any state. Its average, $3,824 per year, is nearly four times lower than in the District of Columbia, where the costs are highest at $14,837.
- Infant Mortality Rate: California has the lowest number of infant deaths per 1,000 births, at 4.3, which is two times lower than in Alabama, where the infant mortality rate is highest, with 8.68 deaths for every thousand.
- Childcare Facilities: For those most dependent on childcare, Vermont has the highest number of day-care centers, with 84 per 100,000 residents. Meanwhile, West Virginia only offers nine establishments within the same population. That's a difference of 900 percent!
- Delivery Costs: North Dakota and Maryland have the lowest hospital bills for conventional and cesarean deliveries, respectively. New Jersey and New Mexico, however, are tied for having the highest costs in both types of deliveries.
- Maternity Leave: Working moms might consider a move to California, which has the best parental leave score at 140. A whopping 17 states – including Arizona, Michigan, and South Carolina – tied for the worst.
- Doctor Prevalence: Although Washington DC is prohibitively expensive, it has plenty of positives: the district has the highest number of obstetricians, gynecologists, and pediatricians out of all the states.
The prospect of moving to a different state just to have a baby might seem implausible, but experts maintain that it'll pay off long-term.
"Location matters a great deal," said Diane M. Harnek Hall, a professor of family studies at Towson University and a member of WalletHub's panel of experts. "There are opportunities everywhere. However, the pathway to those opportunities are more direct in some areas than others."
Her recommendation to those states that aren't deemed baby-friendly?
"Hospitals should offer free infant care classes and groups for parents with newborns," she said. "Local organizations should pitch in to help families with meals. Legislation should be passed for paid maternity leave. The community should be as supportive as possible for families to begin as healthy as possible."

Jaw-Dropping Then-and-Now Photos of the Twin Sisters Who Gave Birth 15 Minutes Apart
Twin sisters Corey Struve Talbott and Katie Struve Morgan knew they were expecting their babies 10 days apart, but when they unexpectedly gave birth on the same day and within just 15 minutes of each other, they couldn't have been more shocked. Before giving birth to Indie Mae and Ryatt Rae, Corey and Katie took stunning maternity photos in blue gowns to commemorate going through pregnancy at the same time. A year later, the sisters slipped on the same dresses and grabbed their 1-year-old girls to re-create their maternity shoot.
"I photographed Corey and Katie's maternity photos last year. I thought it was so sweet that two sisters got to experience such a special time together," Brenden Boggs of So Cute Photo told POPSUGAR. "Even though their due dates were a few weeks apart, they ended up giving birth on the same day only 15 minutes apart! We all joke that they are twin-cousins!"
With Indie and Ryatt celebrating their first birthdays, Brenden thought it would be fun to re-create Corey and Katie's maternity shoot with the girls, and the twins loved the idea. "We were cracking up at how loose the dresses were," Corey told POPSUGAR of the now-iconic blue dresses.
"It was so much fun to see how much life can change in a year," Brenden said. "Now Corey and Katie have two beautiful baby girls full of personality, and they all can't wait to see what adventures the next year of toddlerhood brings!"
Ahead, see the gorgeous photos Brenden took of the moms and their little ones plus a YouTube video of the twins' birth stories, and follow Indie and Ryatt on Instagram for daily doses of cuteness.
Dad of Interracial Family Honestly Reveals His Own Biases
"I have a confession to make. It's embarrassing. Especially because I have an interracial family. And because it shows that I still have bias," writes Frank Somerville, an evening anchor at KTVU who often sparks honest and important discussions about parenting and race on his Facebook page. Although the father of two daughters - one of which is adopted and black - typically shares other people's stories, he took to Facebook on Monday night to share one of his own.
Somerville was walking past a bus stop around 8 p.m. when he saw a white woman sitting alone and a black man walking toward her on the sidewalk. He decided to keep an eye on the woman to make sure nothing happened to her, when out of nowhere a young boy ran to catch up to the man and grabbed his dad's hand. Somerville admits that when he realized the man was a father, his whole perspective changed instantly.
The man did absolutely nothing wrong and yet I initially saw him as a possible threat. And let's be honest. The main reason was because of his skin color. The whole way home I was thinking to myself: "I grew up in Berkeley. I have a black daughter. And yet I still have that %$#%$@ bias. What the %$#%$ is wrong with me?"
And on top of that I just had a talk with my daughter about how people might treat her differently from her "white" sister based solely on her skin color. And now here I am doing the EXACT same thing.
Somerville is vulnerably sharing his story to show how strong biases can be and says the only way to eliminate them "is to realize that they are there in the first place."

Sick of the Same Song Autoplaying When You Get in the Car? Here's an Easy Solution
If you have an iPhone, you've probably been in this (extremely annoying) situation before: you hop in the car for your early-morning work commute, plug in your phone to get some energizing jams pumpin', and are immediately met with the same freakin' song that plays first every single day. For whatever unknown reason, iPhones tend to automatically play the first song in your alphabetical iTunes playlist when you're using a USB port or Bluetooth in a vehicle, which means your day may always start with a random tune like "A-Punk" by Vampire Weekend or "ABC" by the Jackson 5.
Yes, we're totally aware that this is such a typical "first-world problem," but there's no denying that after a few months of this happening over and over again - especially in those early a.m. hours - it can really start to get on your nerves.
Sick of this strange glitch? Luckily, there are a few known workarounds to help you until Apple (hopefully) comes up with an official remedy. First, you can try switching up your car's settings to turn off autoplaying for Bluetooth, The Verge suggests. If you're not seeing an autoplay switch, you may be able to tweak the default volume settings so you aren't bombarded with Michael Jackson's high-pitched "A buh-buh buh buh-buh" every single morning.
If you're unable to alter your vehicle's Bluetooth settings to alleviate the issue, there's a second trick for circumventing the bug, and it comes from Twitter user Samir Mezrahi. He came up with a genius hack: simply create a song of pure silence and rename it so the tune pops up at the top of your iTunes list. Samir created his own silent tune, titled "A a a a a Very Good Song," which consists of nearly 10 minutes with no beats and no lyrics - just straight silence. If you're so over hearing that same song play every time you get in the car, Samir's silent tune is available for 99 cents on iTunes. Problem solved!
hey I released a blank song that will play 1st so that *one* song won't play every time u plug ur phone into ur car https://t.co/FL83YUOOcz

Game of Thrones: What Gilly's Discovery About Jon Snow Actually Means
Jon Snow is a bastard no more. At least that seems to be the takeaway from Gilly's exploration of High Septon Maynard's diary. In between counting the number of steps in the Citadel and keeping a record of all of his bowel movements, the High Septon also slips in a tiny but important detail about Prince Rhaegar. According to the diary, Daenerys's brother had his first marriage annulled in Dorne so that he would be free to marry another woman. Unfortunately, Sam has an outburst before Gilly can officially read off the name of Rhaegar's second wife, but it's safe to say that he legally weds Lyanna Stark before she gives birth to their son, who grows up to be Jon Snow. This is a major moment for Game of Thrones, and it positions Jon to be a true threat to Daenerys's claim to the Iron Throne before the series ends.
Neither Gilly nor Sam grasps the importance of this passage. The information is offered up for the audience alone, although there is a small chance one of them will remember Rhaegar's story once the truth of Jon's parentage comes out. And, hey, Sam takes quite a few books from the Citadel before he packs up with Gilly and Little Sam to head back to Jon's side . . . High Septon Maynard's diary of exposition might be among them.
Gilly's innocent question - "What does 'annulment' mean?" - changes everything for the show's key players. Let's take a closer look at what Jon's legitimacy means for Game of Thrones moving forward.
Jon Snow Is the Rightful King of Westeros
His entire life, Jon has been known as Ned Stark's bastard. That title made him the man he is today, but it turns out everything he bases his identity on is wrong. His parents are Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, and he's their true-born son. That makes Jon the rightful King of Westeros. As Rhaegar's only living son, the rules of succession dictate that the Iron Throne is Jon's by right. Daenerys is Rhaegar's sister and has a lesser claim than her brother's legitimate son, according to the laws of the Seven Kingdoms.
Whether or not Jon wants to wear the crown is an entirely different question, and it's one he may have to ponder at some point. There's no way to know how Jon will react when the truth of his parentage is revealed to him. To learn that he's neither Ned's son nor a bastard is sure to leave him wondering exactly what kind of life he could have had. It may also make him contemplate the good he could do for Westeros if he accepts his fate as the true ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.
Daenerys Is Not Next in Line For the Throne
Daenerys's actions since the death of her brother, Viserys, have all been based on the presumption that she is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. She believes she is the last Targaryen in the world and the throne is her birthright. The truth is now much more complicated. She is a Targaryen, but she has no more right to rule the Seven Kingdoms than Cersei, at least not in the eyes of the law. As Rhaegar's legitimate son, Jon comes before her in the line of succession.
Just because the law isn't on her side doesn't mean Daenerys will simply give up on her goal of leading Westeros. She's still the Mother of Dragons, the Breaker of Chains, and the Unburnt - and she's unlikely to step aside for her nephew or any other person who challenges her claim.
Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen's Story Is Way Less Bleak
Robert's Rebellion is based on the belief that Rhaegar stole Lyanna, raped her, and then held her captive in the Tower of Joy. Season six of Game of Thrones takes fans into the tower to witness the birth of Jon and the death of Lyanna, but the scenes reveal little about her relationship with Rhaegar, aside from her desire for Ned to protect their son. Thanks to Gilly, it now seems the circumstances surrounding Lyanna and Rhaegar's story are much happier, even though the ending remains heartbreaking.
The two likely fell in love during the Tourney at Harrenhal. From that, fans can infer that Lyanna ran away with Rhaegar willingly and was not taken against her will, as Robert believed. Everything that is known about the prince suggests he was a good and kind man who was nothing like his father. As for Lyanna, she is always described as headstrong and as a woman who knew her own mind. She surely wanted to marry Rhaegar as much as he wanted to marry her.
A New Targaryen Alliance
Ultimately, Gilly's revelation points toward a new beginning for House Targaryen. For centuries, the Targaryens wed one another. Daenerys and Jon are already showing a growing fondness for each other; they may fall in love before they find out they are related. If they do, it would make the road to their becoming allies bonded by marriage much smoother in the long run, and it would eliminate any need for in-fighting over who should rule the Seven Kingdoms. Shouldn't the last two Targaryens rule side by side? Remember: there's nothing sadder than a Targaryen alone in the world, because history proves they have always been stronger together.

11 Ways Parents Can Teach Kids the Importance of Kindness
Oftentimes, it feels like adults have something to learn from kids when it comes to kindness and loving each other. However, parents still have a serious role in teaching their kiddos the importance of being genuinely caring little people.
According to research conducted by Harvard psychologist Richard Weissbourd and published in the Washington Post, 80 percent of kids studied thought their parents were more focused on their achievements or personal happiness than whether they cared for others. "Children are not born simply good or bad and we should never give up on them. They need adults who will help them become caring, respectful, and responsible for their communities at every stage of their childhood," the researchers wrote.
No matter your child's age, it's never too early or late to start emphasizing the importance of caring for one another. Read on for 11 impactful ways parents can help children understand the value of this attribute.

3 Ways the British Royal Family Stays So Damn Rich
It might seem like we know the British royal family based on how public their lives are, but when you really think about it, how much do you really know about the lifestyles of the most famous family in England? While we do know what Prince William and Kate Middleton do when it comes to their jobs - like being a part of the Royal Air Force, in William's case - not many people know where the family's money and wealth actually comes from.
Spoiler alert: the bulk of the money that Queen Elizabeth II and her family have is inherited. What you might not know is how the family first received, and continue to receive, the bulk of that money. Essentially, there are three different ways in which the queen and her heirs make money every year and retain their wealthy status.
Queen Elizabeth II's Royal Job Description and the Duties Being Passed On to Her Family Members
1. Private Income
For all intents and purposes, we're going to focus on how Queen Elizabeth II makes money, because technically it's the same formula for her descendants and her heirs. The queen has an undisclosed amount of earnings that come annually from "inherited private estates" including Balmoral Castle and other properties from her personal investment portfolio.
According to the royal family's website, this inheritance initially came from Her Majesty's father, King George VI, and also consists of a valuable artwork and stamp collection. Last year, her private income was estimated to be about £340 million ($490 million), according to a Sunday Times report in 2016.
When it comes to this area of her wealth, the queen does pay taxes on any income she privately makes from her different investments, but what she pays has always remained secret. These properties - unless she chooses to sell them - will most likely go to her descendants someday.
2. The Privy Purse
The Privy Purse isn't just a fancy British term for a handbag or money holder, although if you really think about it, that's sort of what it is - a holder of the set money that the queen receives during her time as monarch. The second form of royal income is all about The Duchy of Lancaster, which provides the Queen with a set income - so no work-related expenses like touring the country and making public appearances have to be paid with this, although some are - called the Privy Purse.
Simply put, The Duchy of Lancaster is a "portfolio of land and other assets that have been in the royal family for hundreds of years." As of early 2017, that compilation of land and property came to about 18,433 hectares. The Privy Purse is all of the income generated from those properties (about £17.8 million or $21.7 million for 2015-2016) and it has been around since 1399.
"Its main purpose is to provide an independent source of income, and is used mainly to pay for official expenditure not met by the Sovereign Grant (primarily to meet expenses incurred by other members of the Royal Family)," the official Royal Family website explains.
Side note: Prince Charles, who is currently next in line for the throne, runs his own estate (that again has properties that have been passed down and cannot be sold from back in 1337) called The Duchy of Cornwall. Charles currently resides over this money (like the queen does for The Duchy of Lancaster), and it is responsible for covering all of the personal, and most of the official expenses, for his family line, which would include Prince William and Harry. When Charles ascends the throne, Prince William will become the heir to The Duchy of Cornwall and it will continue to go down the line to the male heirs.
3. Sovereign Grant
Last but not least is the Sovereign Grant, which is handed out by the Treasury and is funded by taxpayer dollars (or pounds in the UK). This is where the majority of the British Royal Family's income hails from, and it's used to carry out the royal duties, cover royal travel, pay for the staff, and help maintain Buckingham Palace's upkeep.
In 1760, the Sovereign Grant was set up thanks to King George III, and it's basically an agreement that was made between Parliament and the Royal Family saying they would hand over all of the profits from the Crown Estate to the government in return for a percentage of the profits each year.
What is the Crown Estate, you ask? Well, according to BBC News, it's "an independent commercial property business and one of the largest property portfolios in the UK." It is made up of residential properties, businesses, shops, and more. Basically, it is everything that the Monarchy owns - for the duration of their reign - and the residents of the United Kingdom pay taxes on it, thanks to the government. How the Sovereign Grant works is this: The Crown (in this case the queen) owns the Crown Estate. That estate makes money, which in turn gets paid to the HM Treasury, who calculates what 15 percent of the surplus income is. That amount is then paid to the queen in the form of a Sovereign Grant and used for royal expenses. It's a mouthful, but it actually makes sense.
While living like a royal does sound great, knowing where the family's money comes from is much more complicated than we expected. But, at the end of the day, money is money, and the British royal family has a lot of it. Cheers!
