19 Safe Sunscreens For Kids (Including Some You Can Find at Your Drugstore)
Slather on the lotion! If you thought the breast vs. bottle debate was polarizing, wait until you talk to fellow playground moms about sunscreen. Though lotions and sticks protect little ones' skin from cancer-causing UVA and UVB rays, doctors advise new mamas to use physical barriers - SPF clothing, umbrellas, and shades - rather than lotions on babies younger than 6 months old.
Once tots reach the 6-month mark, though, we need to keep them protected from the sun without harming them in other ways. The Environmental Working Group's recommendations for the best sunscreens for tots - products that do not contain potential hormone disruptors - is considered the definitive list of safe options. According to EWG Senior Scientist David Andrews, it's inactive ingredients like retinyl palmitate (vitamin A) and oxybenzone that parents need to look out for. "By and large, the ones that do well in our database are the ones that are mineral-based products with a higher percent of zinc oxide, as well as some of the products with titanium dioxide," he said.
While parents have been getting the message about switching from chemical sunscreens to mineral versions, one of the group's biggest concerns is how parents are using them. "[Consumers] are looking to buy higher and higher SPF values," Andrews said. "When people use higher SPF values, we're concerned that it leads to a change in behavior and an increased time in the sun and that you apply less of it. Those products may not be as effective in blocking both UVA and UVB radiation. So we steer consumers toward SPF 30 to SPF 50 products and lower and we really think those are the sweet spot of the products that are available in the marketplace."
He went on to explain, "The active ingredients in SPF 30 and SPF 100 products may be quite similar. So we're going to be doing more over the course of the next year, investigating the inactive ingredients like the antioxidants and anti-inflammatories that may be reducing redness in the skin, but may not be reducing how much hits your skin. The way the SPF test is done is in changes in skin redness."
So what's a parent to do when trying to choose a safe sunscreen? First, check the EWG's site and app for a list of the safest and least safe options for your family. If you don't have that at your fingertips, Andrews recommends:
- Steering away from SPF products over 50. SPF 30-50 products depending on the situation are OK.
- Seek out products that use three percent avobenzone if they are chemical sunscreens or the ones that use zinc oxide as the active ingredient in natural versions. "[They] do the best job of filtering out UVA radiation across the spectrum of UVA radiation. Seek out products that use a higher percentage of zinc oxide - typically you'll find 15 to 20 percent, or three percent avobenzone."
- Look at inactive ingredients on the label. If possible, avoid products that use retinyl palmitate (vitamin A) and avoid products using oxybenzone.
- Avoid spray products - they're convenient but not the best choice. Why skip the convenience of spray lotions? "You don't get a uniform coating on the skin," Andrews says. Plus, "Given the concern about the ingredients in these products, we really don't want to coat the inside of our lungs with sunscreen."
Read through to see 19 of the EWG's top picks (many of which can be found at your local drugstore - not just at specialty stores).
Laguna Beach and The Hills: Where Are They Now?
It's been nearly 13 years years since MTV's Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County debuted on Sept. 28, 2004, introducing us to the world of Lauren Conrad, Kristin Cavallari, Stephen Colletti, and the rest of their impossibly good-looking crew of high school pals. However, not everything was perfect on the show. Kristin revealed in an interview that she felt "manipulated" during filming and accused producers of making Stephen take LC out on dates for the sake of drama.
Sure, most people know what LC is up to, but what ever happened to Trey Phillips? Or Jen Bunney?! Keep reading to find out where the Laguna Beach and Hills stars, including Justin Bobby, are today, and be sure to check out pictures of the stars at their high school reunion!

Is It Hot in Here or Is Demi Lovato's Lingerie Photo Heating Things Up?
Demi Lovato was in a very sexy mood when she posted these photos on her Instagram story. The "Sorry Not Sorry" singer looked like an angel sent from heaven in two all-white outfits that were completely different from each other.
In one photo, Demi is wearing a delicate silk robe dress that ties in the front and has a low-cut v-neck, but in the other, she's rocking a white camisole and underwear and posing in bed. We know that Demi, who has been sharing more than a few hot snaps lately, knew that second post will send us into overdrive and make us drop our phones.
We love seeing this side of Demi because it shows she's getting more and more confident with showing off the body that she says she works hard for. "... About what people think of my body. I am more than just a number and a jean size. F**k yeah," she wrote on Twitter on April 11. "I rarely post pics with my belly button showing because I'm normally insecure about showing my full stomach but I've been working really hard," she said on another Instagram post on Aug. 1. While we recuperate from seeing these photos, take a look yourself, but make sure you're sitting down . . . trust us.

Game of Thrones: What Is the Vale and Why Is Littlefinger in Charge of It?
Let's be real: if you're the sort of Game of Thrones fan who feels confused about the show all the damn time, then you might have some questions about a phrase that's tossed around a lot. Especially in seasons six and seven, Sansa and Littlefinger often mention "the Vale" in conversation, which obviously might prove confusing if you have no idea WTF that even is. Is it a hair accessory? A location? A group of people? Don't worry - we have all the answers you need about the Vale, except what its leader's fate might be.
The Vale of Arryn is a northeastern kingdom in Westeros historically ruled by house Arryn . . . or, as you might remember them, Catelyn Stark's crazy sister, Lysa Arryn, and her creepy mama's-boy son, Robin. The capital of the Vale is the Eyrie, the skyscraper of a castle where Tyrion is held prisoner in a wall-less cell back in season one and where Littlefinger eventually pushes Lysa to her death through the "moon door." As you might recall, the region is surrounded by mountains and "hill tribes" of savages, who Catelyn Stark and Tyrion scuffle with when Tyrion is still Stark's hostage. Also contained within the Vale is Littlefinger's home territory of the barely habitable rocky islands, The Fingers.
Why Does the Vale Matter?
The Vale has maintained strong forces through remaining neutral, staying out of conflicts thanks to Lysa Arryn's isolationist tactics.
Who Are the Knights of the Vale?
The most important facet of Littlefinger's newfound control is his access to the Knights of the Vale, a legendary force of soldiers from the region. The Knights of the Vale are a particularly formidable force because of their experience in nontraditional battle scenarios - they often fight the mountain clans surrounding the Eyrie - and their sheer numbers. You see, while other noble houses in Westeros have suffered massive losses in the War of the Five Kings, the Vale has maintained strong forces through remaining neutral and staying out of battles thanks to Lysa Arryn's isolationist tactics.
These Knights of the Vale are known for their loyalty and are legendary as fearsome fighters, so when Littlefinger finally decides it's time for the Vale to declare for House Stark, his armies swoop in at the last minute to easily help Jon Snow and win the Battle of the Bastards.
So, What's Next For the Vale?
This is particularly important to note when watching Littlefinger's dealings with Sansa. If he were to marry her - as he so clearly wishes to do - she would become Lady of the Vale, gaining access to this fearsome army. If she were to scorn Littlefinger instead, he could revoke the Vale's support for Jon Snow, returning to the Eyrie with his knights and leaving the North woefully ill-prepared for the Great War.
Littlefinger is clearly plotting something, but we'll have to wait and see how the Knights of the Vale play into it. In the meantime, read up on the best Game of Thrones theories to predict what's next!
15 Times Game of Thrones's Daniel Portman Was Just Over-the-Top Adorable
Game of Thrones is full of gorgeous eye candy, but there is one unsung hero who deserves a little more attention: Daniel Portman. While his character, Podrick Payne, may not be the rightful heir to the Iron Throne like Jon Snow, the Scottish actor certainly makes our stomach do flips whenever he has a scene. When he's not serving Brienne of Tarth on screen, he's flooding our Instagram feed with his adorable snaps with animals. And don't get us started on those big puppy-dog eyes. See some of his hottest moments here.
Costco Has a New Burger That Might Make You Forget All About Its Hot Dogs
It would be an understatement to say that Costco shoppers are excited about the addition of cheeseburgers in the food court. The wholesale retailer is known for its food court's affordable hot dogs and pizza, and now Costco is testing out a cheeseburger that seems to have been met with much success so far.
The third-pound burger is topped with lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar cheese, and thousand island dressing. As many have noted, the so-called Chicago-style burger does bear a resemblance to Shake Shack's famous burger due to the soft bun. As is expected, the burger is also seriously affordable at $5.
Costco is currently offering the burger on a trial basis throughout Seattle and in a few California locations, such as Corona, Pacoima, and Lakewood. If it's popular enough, however, it may become a nationwide menu item. Look ahead to check out more pictures of the brand-new burger.
If You're Missing the Pop-Up, Don't Worry - the Cheetos Cookbook Is Here
The Spotted Cheetah, a New York City pop-up restaurant featuring an entire menu of Cheetos dishes, exists thanks to Chester the Cheetah - just kidding! The chef behind the dangerously cheesy recipes is Anne Burrell, a beloved Food Network star who has given us even more reason to be a fan. She spoke to me on the phone about the recipes she developed, which dishes she anticipates will be big hits, and where you can get all of the recipes so you can re-create them at home.
Anne jumped at the opportunity to work on the project because she loved having the opportunity to work on something as "iconic and fun as Cheetos" and hoped she could "add a dose of seriousness to the menu, but also just really embrace the sense of whimsy that goes along with it." She added the job had one obvious perk: "All the free Cheetos that we got to play around with and create with. Super fun." Though she had a blast creating the menu, she had no idea the pop-up would go viral. She explained, "I started getting texts and emails and stuff from friends of mine from across the country saying, 'Oh, my God. I saw you on Facebook. How do I get into the Cheetos restaurant? Can you help me get a reservation?' I have to say, truly, I had no idea that it was going to be this big."
Of all the menu items, both savory and sweet, Anne thinks the mac and Cheetos and Cheetos nachos are "going to be big hit[s]." While you may have crumbled Cheetos on top of mac and cheese before, Anne's version is heavy on the bacon and comes topped with Cheetos Puffs and Flamin' Hot Chipotle Ranch Cheetos. As for the Cheetos nachos, Anne replaces tortilla chips with good, old-fashioned original Cheetos. She drizzles Fontina cheese sauce and sausage ragu over the top, along "with regular nachos toppings like lettuce, tomatoes, pickled jalapeños, and sour cream." Anne says she wanted a "dose of [her] Italian kitchen" inserted into an iconic "American snack food."
If, like me, you are experiencing a particularly painful case of FOMO, don't worry. Anne informed me that the The Spotted Cheetah Digital Cookbook is now available for download on the restaurant website. Translation: you can make all of Anne's creations out of the comfort of your kitchen. "I wrote [the recipes]. They proudly represent Cheetos, so there's no reason to keep those secret," Anne said. Thank Chester for THAT.

These Cadbury Coated Oreos Are an Extravagant Chocolate Clusterf*ck
Cadbury and Oreo have teamed up yet again to create an over-the-top and indulgent dessert. In Australia, the two beloved brands have released Cadbury Coated Oreos. Though the name is pretty self-explanatory, the new product is composed of regular Oreo cookies that have been dipped in smooth chocolate.
Through the years, Cadbury and Oreo have released several hybrid products, including candy bars, creme eggs, and more. The latest creation, however, is particularly exciting because it uses an Oreo cookie as its foundation, as opposed to a Cadbury chocolate bar.
It seems like stores throughout Australia have already begun stocking boxes of Cadbury Coated Oreos, with each box containing six packs of two. Though this extravagant treat is only available internationally right now, we'll keep our fingers crossed for a stateside launch. In the meantime, treat yourself to some pictures of the delectable dessert.

5 Things No One Ever Told You About Raising a Toddler (but You Need to Know)
Sometimes parenting books feel like they're a dime a dozen - a handful cross my desk each week promising to provide the definitive method for raising sweet, well-adjusted tots - spoiler alert: few actually do. But when I learned that Dr. Tovah Klein, a mother of three and the director of the Barnard College Center For Toddler Development in NYC who has been observing toddlers for over 20 years, would be speaking at my son's preschool PTA meeting, I made sure I was seated in the front row to hear her philosophy and learnings firsthand. Dr. Klein's How Toddlers Thrive: What Parents Can Do Today For Children Ages 2-5 to Plant the Seeds of Lifelong Success ($19, originally $25) was already generating buzz, and after hearing her in person, I understand why.
Based on the philosophy that toddlers are not miniadults, that they're individuals fueled by a desire to know was just the beginning. In just 45 minutes Dr. Klein took us deep into the magical world of the toddler years and got to the root of many of our biggest frustrations with our tots. I learned a few fascinating philosophies about young kids that have already helped me better understand my child. I highly suggest you pick up a copy, but in the interim, here are a handful of teasers you'll find in the book.

This Calendar For Kids of Divorce Is What Coparenting Is Truly All About
Divorce is hard enough on kids, but when you factor in complicated custody schedules, it can also feel confusing and unpredictable. What often ends up happening to children in these situations - who normally thrive on routine and consistency to feel safe - is that they'll start to act out. They'll show signs of anxiety, which will result in behavioral issues, temper tantrums, outbursts. Soon enough, parents -no matter how committed to coparenting they are - will lose control.
It's a frightening proposition that many parents fear is an inevitability.
Enter: the Mighty + Bright Co-Parenting Calendar.
Created by mom Sara Olsher following her own divorce, her new calendar serves as a research-based visual aid to help kids - particularly those too young to understand the concept of time - make sense of their new lives.
"Kids of all ages have a hard time keeping track of custody schedules and often need reminding," Olsher explained on the company's website. "Unfortunately for them, our custody schedules are usually kept on our digital devices, where we can reference them but our kids cannot."
The shared-custody calendars include personalized magnets to represent each parent (yes, they can be custom-made to look like each person) and different colored houses or apartments as well as magnets for different activities and appointments.
The weekly calendar is on sale now for $30, but you can also purchase biweekly and monthly options as well as a basic routine chart to help "helps kids feel a sense of security in knowing that every day begins and ends in the same way," no matter which parent they're with.
For those parents struggling with the complexities of custody arrangments, Olsher recommends purchasing two calendars - one for each household. As one parent, Joy, wrote in a testimonial:
"The routine chart was exactly what we needed to establish a good routine for our son after our separation. It gave him a sense of normalcy he was missing."

Chocolate-Covered Strawberries in No Time at All
If there's one thing I could eat every day, it's chocolate and fruit. Chocolate-covered strawberries are one of those decadent desserts that people save for special, romantic occasions, but I don't really understand that. This technique for dipping your strawberries in melted chocolate is so simple, it can and should be enjoyed regularly. While many recipes tell you to melt chocolate and butter together, I find that the chocolate chips melt perfectly on their own, and I like to keep things as simple as possible. I use semisweet chocolate chips, but feel free to use whatever your taste buds prefer. Click through to follow along.
If Friends Was Still on, Rachel Green Would Ditch Bloomingdale's For This 1 Store
Rachel Green was nothing if not the most stylish working woman in New York, at least in the 1990s. The Friends character gave rise to what's still one of the most iconic haircuts in history, and she mastered every trend in the book. When she was off-duty, Rachel made romantic maxi skirts look cool with simple tees, and she paired tights with smart boots for the office.
Though Rachel maintained a job at Bloomingdale's for many seasons, nowadays she would get her fashion fix at Zara. We shopped for 26 of her most memorable looks at the retailer, only to find ourselves brimming with Halloween costume ideas. Read on for a look at them all . . .
These 12 Homework Assignments (and Their Clever Answers!) Prove Why Kids Hate Math
Since math class is competing with fun subjects like art or science, it's not surprising how many kids aren't overly enthused to pull out their homework and start crunching numbers. But with some of the nontraditional numerical assignments kiddos are expected to do (we're looking at you, Common Core!), it's more understandable than ever why some children detest math before they even make it to algebra or geometry class. From intentional trick questions to being marked wrong for stating the obvious, these 12 homework assignments aren't helping to win over any math-lovers among kids - or their parents!
Chick-fil-A Has Guacamole and 6 Other Things You Never Knew You Could Get

We got the scoop from a Chick-fil-A representative who let us in on the fact that Chick-fil-A offers a variety of unexpected menu items across the country that a handful of locations are lucky enough to offer, like guacamole. I know - who knew?! Suddenly our side of kale salad is sounding a little less exciting. Ahead, see a list of all the things you may or may not have known that Chick-fil-A offers, plus where you can find them.
- Mac and cheese and baked beans: Chick-fil-A recently rolled out family-style meals in select cities, and two side options include macaroni and cheese and baked beans. The items are being tested in Greensboro, NC; Phoenix, AZ; and San Antonio, TX through November 18, and based on customer feedback, Chick-fil-A might consider adding them to menus nationwide.

- Jalapeños: There are 129 restaurants in Texas and New Mexico that serve jalapeño peppers.

Game of Thrones: Ser Jorah's Connection to Thoros Is Way More Obscure Than We Thought
We'll never stop being stunned by just how small a world Westeros is. At the end of "Eastwatch," the fifth episode of Game of Thrones season seven, Jon Snow is led to the dungeon at the base of Eastwatch by the Sea, where he links up with an unexpected group.
A few members of the Brotherhood Without Banners - the Hound, Beric Dondarrion, and Thoros of Myr - are all kicking it behind Eastwatch's bars after being captured by Tormund's Wildling scouts beyond the Wall. Although Beric explains that they "don't want to go beyond the Wall," they have to, the recently returned Gendry warns his new BFF not to trust a word they say (remember when the Brotherhood sold Gendry to Melisandre? Yeah, so does Gendry). Fortunately, they're given a chance to prove themselves due to Jon's past with the Hound and Ser Jorah's history with Thoros. While we're well aware of how Jon and the Hound first met, how do Jorah and Thoros know each other? It turns out they briefly met way, way back.
Thoros is not your average topknot-wearing traveler. He possesses a power we've rarely seen exhibited in the show save for a few key moments with Melisandre: the ability to bring the dead back to life. In the Song of Ice and Fire books, Thoros has a bigger part to play, where he's repeatedly seen bringing Beric back to life while on the road with the Brotherhood Without Banners, a group that he helped found. Before all of that, however, he served a stint in the army and was celebrated for his legendary bravery after a battle he fought alongside Jorah, as pointed out by Reddit user Ser_Duncan_The_Ample.
Nine years before the start of the main story, Balon Greyjoy's first rebellion was in full swing. King Robert Baratheon sent an army to lay siege on Pyke, where both Thoros and Jorah displayed extreme courage when the pair of them charged into the Ironborn stronghold, swords blazing (quite literally, in Thoros's case). Thoros was first through the door and Jorah second, a story which the latter recalls during a conversation with Ser Barristan in season three.
Upon seeing his former comrade in "Eastwatch," Jorah says, "Thoros? I hardly recognized you." Thoros, sitting on the floor of the cell, responds with a sardonic smile. "Jorah Mormont, they won't give me anything to drink down here," he quips, alluding to his reputation as a drunk. "I haven't been feeling like myself." This comment, though seemingly innocuous, leads to a tense conversation between Jorah and Tormund, due to Thoros using Jorah's last name. (His father, Jeor Mormont, was Lord Commander of the Night's Watch for years before Jon took over and hunted thousands of Wildlings "like animals.")
Despite the ups and downs of the entire groups' shared pasts, they'll have to learn how to push it aside if they have any hope at all of coming out of their skirmish with the White Walkers alive.

We Would "Scream" If This Actress Ends Up Playing Jughead's Mom on Riverdale
Riverdale is full of mystery and darkness, and it's only going to get more intense next season. While there are bound to be plenty of surprises in store as several fresh faces come to town, there are two characters in particular who we are all dying to meet: Jughead's mom (whose name is Gladys in the comic books) and his sister, Jellybean. During Comic-Con, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa teased that we could meet the mother-daughter duo during the second half of the season. Of course, they're taking their sweet time with casting to make sure they find the perfect fit.
While we're not sure how many young actresses could pull off a 10-year-old who listens to Pink Floyd on vinyl, fans already have the perfect choice for Jughead's mom: Neve Campbell. Not only does she have the Jones family's jet-black hair, but it would also make for one epic Scream reunion with Skeet Ulrich (FP Jones). During the first movie in the horror franchise, the two played star-crossed love interests, which the series has paralleled multiple times with Jughead and Betty's relationship. Like father like son, I guess. And seeing that most of the Riverdale parents are iconic '90s stars - Luke Perry (Fred Andrews) was on Beverly Hills, 90210 and Mädchen Amick (Alice Cooper) was on Twin Peaks - it only seems fitting that Jughead's mom would follow suit.

Seriously, can you imagine how much chemistry these two would have playing Mr. and Mrs. Jones?
Jennifer Aniston Is Bringing Back Your Favorite Jeans of Yesteryear
As far as jeans go, Jennifer Aniston has admitted to preferring a slouch over a skinny. "[Husband Justin Theroux] really enjoys me in a skinny jean, which I loathe. But I think I have more skinny jeans these days than normal," she told People. But while stepping out in Paris, Jen stuck to what she's comfortable in, opting for rolled, ripped boyfriend jeans by RE/DONE | Levi's and simple white sneakers. While her denim choice isn't exactly on trend - these days we're seeing a lot more high-waisted silhouettes that are slashed or frayed at the hem - Jen made it work.
She finished her outfit with a camel coat, lightweight scarf, textured crossbody bag, and aviator sunglasses, proving that you can never go wrong when relying on wardrobe basics (however old they might be). Since Jen makes such a good case for the classic boyfriend jean, we're shopping for an updated version on the cut below. Scroll for a look.
Game of Thrones: Why Jon Snow Just Became Dany's Worst Nightmare
It may seem as though there are only two people left vying for control of Westeros on Game of Thrones - Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister - but there's another claimant to the Iron Throne who doesn't know it yet: Jon Snow. His claim is actually stronger than either of the two women currently waging war. Let's examine what we know.
Cersei's Claim
Cersei's claim is by far the most tenuous of the three. She basically only holds the Iron Throne because of her military grip on King's Landing and willingness to do things like use wildfire to burn down the Great Sept of Baelor with hundreds of people inside, including Queen Margaery.
Yes, Cersei's two sons were both kings, but they never really had any right to the throne because they weren't King Robert Baratheon's true sons.
Rather hilariously, the Lannister who has a greater claim to the throne than Cersei is Jaime. Redditor webby131 did a rather thorough examination of the Baratheon family tree and discovered that King Robert's ancestor Elyanna married Mathin Lannister. Their living heir is actually the High Lord of House Lannister, who right now happens to be Jaime Lannister. He's no longer in the Kingsguard, so there's nothing saying he can't be king, except . . .
Daenerys's Claim
Robert's rule came about through a rebellion, so one could argue that his house doesn't actually have a right to the throne. If you take that claim, House Targaryen actually still holds the right to the Iron Throne. With Mad King Aerys's two sons dead with no living heirs (that anyone knows about), that leaves Daenerys as next in line to the throne because, as in medieval England, women only inherit if there are no males in their family ahead of them in the line of succession, therefore women are able to rule if they have no surviving brothers and their brothers left no surviving heirs.
But here is why Jon Snow has a greater claim to the Iron Throne than Daenerys.
Jon Snow's Claim
Jon Snow is actually a surviving male heir of Mad King Aerys. His father is Prince Rhaegar, but since Rhaegar and Rhaegar's other son Aegon are both deceased, Jon Snow is the rightful ruler of the Seven Kingdoms in the Targaryen line of succession.
There is, however, one sticking point the show has not explored yet: whether Aegon is still alive. In the most recent Song of Ice and Fire book, A Dance With Dragons, Tyrion meets a young man claiming to be Aegon Targaryen. He claims Varys had switched the babies so many years ago, and the infant killed in the Sack of King's Landing was a baby whose mother died in childbirth.
The real baby Aegon would have then been smuggled out of Westeros and raised by an adopted father. In the book, Aegon now wants to return to Westeros and claim the Iron Throne. His claim would most certainly trump both Daenerys's and Jon's claims if he could prove he is really Aegon.
However, the TV series has chosen to omit this plot thread thus far, so perhaps it is another of George R.R. Martin's red herrings and not important enough to the overall storyline to be worth including on the show. Or maybe after the White Walker army is defeated, the show will actually introduce this man claiming to be Aegon and we'll have another person vying for the Iron Throne!

Chip Gaines's Ex-Girlfriend and 3 Other Things You'll Find in the Fall Magnolia Journal
Magnolia Journal, the quarterly magazine put out by Fixer Upper stars Chip and Joanna Gaines, has been highly anticipated since it launched last year. For the Fall 2017 issue, which marks its first anniversary, the couple have pulled out all the stops, from appearing in an adorable pottery wheel cover that evokes the movie Ghost to very personal anecdotes we've never heard before. And, of course, living tips, seasonal recipes, and design advice abound.
Here are four things you can expect to find inside this issue.
- Joanna reflecting on the first anniversary of the magazine, which she describes as one of her favorite parts of her work. "I treasure this magazine and the opportunity that it affords me to share my heart, dive into topics that have piqued my interest for years, and, best of all, connect with you, the reader."
- A theme of gratitude, fitting for the season. Joanna summarizes her personal philosophy, stating, "The trick is practicing a kind of thankfulness that isn't based on time or place or circumstance. Even in the trials or the mundane aspects of life, if we have eyes to see them, we can find good things everywhere we look."
- Personal stories to help you expand your perspective. This will include inspiring essays on everything from being a lifelong learner to inviting friends to share a meal.
- A very personal story from Chip about his ex-girlfriend is included in the "Chip's Corner" feature. In it, Chip gets candid as he discusses where he went wrong and why he's ultimately glad he did.

Anthony Scaramucci's "Expiration Date" and More Batsh*t-Crazy Things He Revealed to Colbert
Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci has become a household name in the wake of his incredibly short time on Donald Trump's staff, and when he sat down with Stephen Colbert on Aug. 14, the host of the late-night TV show was not about to let him off easy. Colbert introduced Scaramucci as "the shortest-tenured communications director in White House history," and they went on to discuss Trump's reaction to the white supremacy violence in Charlottesville, Scaramucci's thoughts on President Trump generally, Steve Bannon, and The Mooch's "expiration" date in the White House.
Stephen Colbert's "Bohemian Rhapsody" Parody Is the Best Way to Bid Farewell to Anthony Scaramucci
While Colbert promised Scaramucci he wouldn't ask him any rapid-fire "gotcha" questions, he had to ask one. "Nazis: good or bad?" Colbert asked.
"Super bad," Scaramucci responded.
Well, he definitely got that one right. Check out some of the most batsh*t comments from the episode below, or watch the interview in full above (and prepare to be completely mind-blown at the conversation between the two either way).
- On how Trump is compassionate: "It's a super tough job. He made a step to give up what was a luxurious lifestyle."
- On Trump's lack of condemnation of the Charlottesville violence: "It was late, I'm not going to say that it wasn't, but he did go to the White House today and he did make a statement. It was very declarative . . . . Let's be fair to him, he did condemn the Nazis today."
- On what it was like working in the White House for 10 days: "It's a tough place, there was a lot of infighting."
- On Steve Bannon's role: "I've said that [I think he's a leaker] . . . . Well, if it was up to me, he would be gone, but it's not up to me."
- On Steve Bannon and whether he's a white supremacist: "I don't think he's a white supremacist, though I've never asked him. What I don't like is the toleration of it. It's something that should be completely and totally intolerated."
- On his very short time working for Trump and whether he felt "burned": "Not at all. When you take a job like that, you know your expiration is coming. I didn't think I'd last too long, but I thought I'd last longer than a carton of milk."

11 Leather Jackets So Stylish, You'll Be Shocked They're Vegan
Even though I'm not a vegan myself, I'm a big fan of vegan leather when it comes to fashion. There are so many new vegan-friendly brands and retailers popping up, and it's becoming so easy to shop animal-friendly products while staying on trend.
Here's exactly how to make sure you're picking up a vegan-friendly leather. Instead of being made from animal leather, it can be made from several different kinds of material like cork, barkcloth, glazed cotton, waxed cotton, paper, and, most commonly used, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyurethane. All these materials create the illusion of soft and luxe leather - usually at a fraction of the price. Check out our top picks.
This 1 Question Will Determine If You Follow Trends or Not
My love of trends knows no bounds - not even my allegiance to denim is safe from the ebbs and flows of fickle fashion. I experimented with skinny jeans when they hit the market my senior year of college, squeezing my way into the binding like a sausage and wearing them religiously through their heyday. Then, I did exactly the opposite when flares were back on shelves in just a few seasons, finding the widest bells that pooled out over my shoes, making footwear irrelevant for much of 2011 and 2012. Most recently, I've adopted cropped denim as my uniform of 2016 and 2017 in wider cuts or slim-cropped flares. So, when I say I follow trends, you can look at the jeans I'm wearing to tell I'm serious.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, there are women (god love 'em) who are loyal to one cut and one single silhouette for seasons. They know what looks good on their bodies and they stick to it. Or, the women who lightly dip their toes into the trends, never tossing their beloved styles completely, but experimenting just enough to keep things interesting. So, here's my theory: jeans may just be the single greatest indicator of how trendy you are. They signal to the world in your most basic outfits (jeans and a t-shirt) if you're obsessed with what's new or simply know and love what works. If you want to get to the bottom of your style status, just answer this one question.

You Have to See What Kim Kardashian Looks Like After a Barbie-Style Makeover
Kim Kardashian seems to love keeping her fans on their toes by switching up her strands. The reality star stunned us all when she showed up at Paris Fashion Week with a platinum mane, but that wasn't her first stint as a blonde.
In a recent post on her app, KimKardashianWest.com, she revealed behind-the-scenes photos from a shoot for Kurv Magazine from 2009. In one snap, Kim sports an ice-blond wig with bangs like Barbie (or Nicki Minaj). And in another image, she amped up the volume with sky-high golden blond curls and a J Lo-esque spray tan.
"This was the first time I had ever dyed my hair and I was working with [photographer] Clyde Haygood," Kim explained. "He was determined to get this hair color photographed because he knew I was only keeping it for a month - I had to shoot my first perfume campaign and they wanted me back to dark hair."
While we will always be fans of her signature brunette locks, we love when Kim tries new styles. Maybe Kylie's mane-changing mania was first inspired by this shoot! Read on to see the doll-like photos.
Does More Sweat Translate to More Calories Burned?
Why is it that after a workout, some of us sweat so much we look like we did our run in a pool, while the rest of us look as dry as we did before the workout even started? It seems like the more you sweat, the harder you're working, which would also mean more calories burned, but is that the case?
Your body creates sweat to cool you off when your body temperature gets too high. You're born with between two and four million sweat glands, and how much you sweat depends on the number of sweat glands you have (more glands equal more sweat). Women tend to have more sweat glands than men, but men's glands are more active, so they sweat more. Perspiration is also affected by how hot it is, how intensely you're exercising, and whether or not you smoke or drink coffee or cocktails - smoking, caffeine, and alcohol can increase perspiration. What you're wearing also affects your sweat as synthetic fabrics trap in heat. Fat also acts as an insulator, so overweight people sweat more than those of normal weight.
Don't use the amount you sweat as a good indicator as to the number of calories you've burned. What matters is how long and how intensely you're working out. Any weight loss that you experience immediately after a workout is only water weight, and you'll gain it right back as soon as you rehydrate yourself. So don't worry about how sweaty you get. If you go for a 30-minute run and you haven't sweat a drop, you still burned almost 300 calories.
Michelle Obama Addresses the Melania Trump Gift Meme
One of the most talked about moments on Inauguration Day was a seemingly awkward moment between Michelle Obama and Melania Trump. But, according to Obama, the moment was more about trying to hold back her emotions than anything else.
In case you forgot, on Inauguration Day, when the new first lady and president of the United States arrived at the White House, Trump greeted Obama and handed her a gift. The moment was captured by ABC News and showed Obama's puzzled face as she wondered where to put the gift. The internet was quick to say Obama's face was a reaction to the incoming Trump presidency. But at the American Institute of Architects conference on April 27, Obama revealed what her actual emotions were. The former first lady said she was beginning to realize these were her last moments in the White House - a not-so-easy moment, especially for her daughters, who grew up there.
"So that moment of transition, right before the doors opened and we welcomed in the new family, our kids were leaving out the back door in tears, saying goodbye to people," she said at the event. Obama said she didn't want to have tears in her eyes to avoid any backlash. "I didn't want to have tears in my eyes because people would swear I was crying because of the new president," she said, according to Today.
At the conference, Obama told the audience that Sasha and Malia's last night at the White House involved a slumber party with friends. "They had a sleepover, because of course on Inauguration Day, because my girls are so normal, they're like, 'Well, eight girls are gonna be sleeping here because it's our last time, and we want pizza and we want nuggets.' And it's like, really?"
This was Obama's first public speaking appearance since Inauguration Day, and we're glad to see her back in the spotlight.

I Found the Perfect $10 Statement Earrings - You'll Never Guess Where They're From
As soon as I learned that tassel earrings were going to be a huge trend this year, I knew that I had to try them out. I love bold, colorful accessories, so I was obviously all about the look. Designers started doling out expensive versions, but I wanted to test the waters with a more affordable pair first. After lots of digging around the internet, I finally found the perfect earrings, and they were only $10. They're from an Etsy shop called SiamHillTribes.
To say I was pleased with my order would be an understatement - I was obsessed. They are handmade, so the quality is great. They are also lightweight, so I don't feel like my ears get weighed down in them. I have never had even a bit of discomfort while wearing the earrings all day long. What's even better is that these vibrant tassel earrings come in a variety of colors and styles. Seriously - name the shade and it's probably available.
I now own four different pairs of these earrings, and they get me so many compliments. Friends are always shocked to know how inexpensive they are. What was going to be my cheap treat is now a go-to staple. If you shy away from bright hues, they also come in neutral tones that would be beautiful for Fall. Keep reading to check out where you can buy these pretty accessories and see some of my favorite pairs. Your outfit game is going to be next level.
This Is What I Did at the Gym to Grow My Butt From Flat to Full
I come from a long line of flat butts. On my mother's side of the family, she and her brother, as well as her father, had less-than-full fannies. We often joke about how our backs look more like our fronts. It didn't bother me at all, although it made for baggy jeans and bikini bottoms.
When I started doing more yoga and running, I thought my bum would get bigger, but as you can see from the "before" photo below, my behind was anything but round. It wasn't until I started doing CrossFit a year ago that my booty started to blossom.
Before:
While washing dishes recently, my husband lovingly slapped my butt. I looked at him, thinking I had a bug on my pants or something, but he just smiled. "What? Why are you smiling weirdly?" I asked. "You have a butt now," he said. "I do?!" I said excitedly, and I ran to the mirror to look. I couldn't believe it. I said to myself, "I have a butt now!" I wasn't actually one of those girls who was trying to grow her tush, but I do love how strong my legs look and feel.
After:
While we do tons of burpees and air squats (bodyweight squats) in my CrossFit classes, lifting heavy weights is the big change I made. We regularly work on front squats, back squats, overhead squats, snatches, lunges, and thrusters holding a barbell and plates. And even though I don't lift nearly as much as some of the strong-ass women in my class, doing those exercises with 45 to 100 pounds has rounded and firmed up my tush more than Warrior 1 and running hills ever did.
I realize that my butt transformation isn't an incredible difference, but for me, this is huge (no pun intended!). So if growing your glutes is one of your goals, pick up some weights!

Start Planning Your Trip to Disney For Día de los Muertos, Like, Yesterday
Disney knows how to do Halloween. Every year, Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and the various international incarnations celebrate the holiday in a way that is festive and fun while also still being kid-appropriate. So it's about time that the park took all that fanfare and put it behind another important holiday - Día de los Muertos, celebrated by its Mexican visitors around the same date.
In the past, Disney has honored the traditional Mexican holiday (which, to be clear, is not the same as Halloween in any way) with a few seasonal desserts. Available only at Disneyland, the various sweet treats resembled the Mexican holiday's signature sugar skulls.
This year, Disney is expanding its celebration to include live entertainment, interactive activities, and even more limited-edition menu items.
At Disneyland, there will be new themed treats - like pumpkin flan, available at the Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante in Frontierland. The park will also be offering Calaveras-style face painting. At California Adventure, there will be musical performances, Coco-inspired decorations, and activities centered around traditional Mexican folk art. The festivities will begin on Sept. 15 and run through Nov. 2. Ahead, we've rounded up last year's offerings.
