10 Williams Sonoma Shopping Secrets, Straight From an Employee
If you're like me, you could spend hours perusing the meticulously styled shelves of Williams Sonoma. I recently had the pleasure of visiting the original store in the picturesque wine country region of Sonoma, CA, and it's just as chic as you'd imagine. The founder, Chuck Williams, established the location in 1956, and the store is still full of all the copper pots, Le Creuset Dutch ovens, and artisanal food products you could imagine. Through this trip, I was able to speak with Shane Brogan, senior vice president of stores for Williams Sonoma, to discover 10 little-known tips about the culinary destination that you'll want to know if you're a frequent shopper.
1. In-store culinary experts will show you how to use anything you purchase.
"Whether it's a pasta maker or a pressure cooker, expert culinary staff will show you how to make the most of your new gadget."
2. In-home design services are free of charge.
"Whether it's an entire home, your kitchen or just styling a coffee table, design consultants will help you every step of the way. They'll come right to your house or apartment and help you decorate or put your whole kitchen together."
3. The store offers amazing cooking classes for kids.
"As part of a company-wide effort to teach kids the fundamentals of cooking and eating healthy, Williams Sonoma started the Junior Chef Program. Classes are for children 8-13, range from preparing the main course, to desserts and snacks, with plenty of tastings along the way. It's so fun to watch the kids learn and laugh."
4. Williams Sonoma can deliver door to door.
"From our award-winning croissants (listed as one of Oprah's favorite Williams Sonoma items!) to your entire Thanksgiving meal, Williams Sonoma ships fresh food to customers' homes around the country. Of course I love the croissants too - but our cheese assortment is out of this world."
5. Williams Sonoma's blog, Taste, is a serious foodie destination.
"The blog features food news, interviews with top chefs, seasonal cooking and entertaining tips, plus some info on the best restaurants around the world. Taste publishes articles daily including interviews with chefs like Thomas Keller, as well as recipes featuring what's in season now. I've used them for tips on where to eat when I travel as well as inspiration when I'm throwing a dinner party at home!"
6. You can throw your next dinner party at your local Williams Sonoma store.
"Williams Sonoma stores can be used to host events and store staff can connect you with local chefs and caterers to make your dream party a reality." Spoiler alert: your tablescape will probably look something like this gorgeous setup.
7. There's a monthly Cookbook Club to help you stay on top of the latest recipes and food trends.
"Our stores host a monthly class focusing on the newest and most popular cookbooks from authors like Ina Garten and Trisha Yearwood. Customers get to learn a few recipes out of the cookbook, sample and taste it all - and leave with a cookbook usually autographed by the author."
8. Williams Sonoma food is created in-house by culinary experts and goes through rigorous taste tests.
"Our expert culinary team creates Williams Sonoma food from concept to final product in house at our Williams Sonoma Test Kitchen that overlooks the San Francisco Bay. We only use premium ingredients and we taste every iteration of the recipe until the flavors are just right. Every day at 4 p.m. the Test Kitchen team sends out a company-wide email inviting all employees to sample leftovers from the tastings - it's one of my favorite perks!"
9. Williams Sonoma created the original Peppermint Bark.
"The nostalgic chocolate peppermint confection made its debut 19 years ago, and ever since then it's become a cult phenomenon. It's been copied but never matches the original recipe which is handcrafted using the finest ingredients, including custom-blended Guittard chocolate and triple-distilled oil of peppermint. Customers start asking about it right after Labor Day, but it makes its once-a-year appearance right around November. It's all made right here in San Francisco!"
10. Gift wrap is free!
"It's free and promises to impress the gift recipient. Who wants to wrap a KitchenAid Mixer anyway?"
Travel and expenses for the author were provided by Cercone Brown Company for the purpose of writing this story.

The Most Dangerous Sunscreens For Kids (and They're Probably Hiding in Your Beach Bag)
Along with wearing sunglasses and hats, sunscreen should always be a part of your family's Summer routine - but is the sunscreen in your beach bag right now actually safe? The EWG released its annual list of the sunscreens with the worst ratings for 2017 to alert parents.
The sunscreens that made the list have potentially harmful chemicals - oxybenzone (which can disrupt the hormone system) and retinyl palmitate (which may actually trigger skin damage on sun-exposed skin) - and high SPFs that don't actually do any more to protect your child than an SPF 30-50. Additionally, some formulas come in a spray that won't completely cover your little one's skin and could be inhaled into their lungs.
If any of these are in your arsenal, toss them and opt for one of these safe sunscreens instead.

In 10 years, the woman who was christened Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano went from news anchor to queen of Spain, and just one of the ways in which her life has changed can be charted by the contents of her jewelry box.
As she inched into royal life on the arm of her boyfriend and then fiancé, Prince Felipe VI, she gradually flashed some of her new baubles, along with some subtle pieces borrowed from her mother-in-law, Queen Sofía. Aly & AJ Release Their First Single in 10 Years, and It's a Pure Pop Smash
Summer just got a little sweeter thanks to Aly & AJ. After teasing fans about their return to music, the sister duo - Aly and AJ Michalka - released their single "Take Me" on Friday, and it's crazy good. Not only is the beat highly addictive (not to mention their incredible voices), but it also marks their first single in 10 years! They previously released "Hothouse" under the name 78Violet in 2013. While this song certainly has a pop feel, you can definitely expect a much larger range from their record as a whole.
When POPSUGAR spoke to AJ last year, she said that they were really "focused on not labeling their music as one sound" this time around. "On our last album [Insomniatic], we were trying to please so many people . . . now, that pressure is totally gone," she said. "We're kind of doing this on our own and writing in such a genuine space that there is no time to judge." But don't worry, it will definitely still sound like the Aly & AJ we all know and love. "We obviously have a very sisterly bond that I think never really goes away no matter how much you grow."
Ellie Transformed Her Body in Her 40s With the Help of Gold's Gym
Forty-two-year-old Ellie Carter from St. Paul, MO, went through the devastating loss of her father at the same time she was diagnosed with her own serious medical issues - it was the perfect storm for gaining weight.
Ellie: Before
She fought through her medical setbacks with the help of Gold's Gym's challenges, and now she's biceps curling her kids and no longer on the three prescription medications she once needed. Here's the story of how she got her life back, plus tips you can apply to your own healthy journey.
POPSUGAR: What made you decide to start your weight-loss journey?
Ellie Carter: I was tired and in constant pain and had put on a lot of weight. One day, my 3-year old said, "Mommy, come play with us." And before I could respond, my 5-year old said, "Mommy can't play with us. Mommy is tired and doesn't feel good."
At that point I realized that was not what I wanted my kids to remember from their childhood. My dad had just lost his battle with leukemia, and I had so many fond memories of the fun things he did with us growing up. I wanted my kids to have the same fond memories when they looked back on their childhood. At that point I knew I needed to make a change - for me, for my health, for my husband, and especially for my kids.
PS: What drew you to Gold's Gym specifically?
EC: I had done the 12-week Gold's Gym challenge in 2016; it worked in kick-starting my health and fitness journey. After completing the challenge last year, my dad was diagnosed with incurable leukemia, and I was shortly thereafter also diagnosed with serious medical issues. All I had gained during the challenge was quickly lost. Most of my free time was spent running around to doctor's appointments, and my nutrition consisted of whichever fast-food drive through was close and convenient.
I kept my membership throughout my medical issues. I had made great strides last year through the energy and enthusiasm I felt every time I walked in the door. So, of course, I needed to feel that energy and enthusiasm again to get my life back on track. The group exercise classes were always so engaging!
"I needed to feel that energy and enthusiasm again to get my life back on track."
PS: What's your favorite way to work out?
EC: Group exercise classes keep me going! When I work out outside of those classes, I always feel like I can't do one more set. But in the group classes, the energy and constant encouragement keeps me going the entire hour!
PS: What's your weekly exercise schedule?
EC: I target certain muscle groups on specific days, rotating each week. And I mix in cardio-only days in between the weightlifting/muscle group days.
Ellie: After
PS: How do you keep workouts exciting?
EC: I have a fun music playlist that get me going and in the mood. I switch up my routines to keep it from getting monotonous. And I've started involving my kids! They love sitting on my back while I plank, and they think it's a fun game when I biceps curl them.
PS: How much weight have you lost?
EC: Eighteen pounds and counting! My journey is still ongoing!
PS: What was the first big difference, other than the number on the scale, that really made you feel proud and excited?
EC: The energy I now have, the way the stress levels have decreased dramatically, but most importantly the fact that my doctor has removed me from THREE prescription medications. Additionally, all my numbers are now in good healthy ranges (i.e., cholesterol).
PS: How do you track your weight loss?
EC: Just the use of a traditional scale.
PS: What's a typical day of meals and snacks?
EC: Breakfast: protein shake blended with fruit and spinach. Snack: boiled egg, fruit. Lunch: spinach or kale salad, and some sort of a lean protein (fish, chicken, turkey) with a carb. Snack: fresh veggies and usually hummus. Dinner: lean meat, veggies, and small portion of carbs.
PS: Do you count calories?
EC: I use a meal tracker that helps me count calories. I find that if I count and watch what I eat, I'm more conscious and deliberate about sticking to a healthy routine. I eat 1,200-1,500 calories depending on my workouts planned for the day.
Ellie: Before and After
PS: What are the healthy staples that are always in your fridge?
EC: Fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, spinach and kale for salads, fat-free Greek yogurt (for dips and dressings), and hummus.
"If I watch what I eat, I'm more conscious and deliberate about sticking to a healthy routine."
PS: How do you strategize for meals out?
EC: I research the menu and plan for something healthy. If there are salads, I get low-fat/low-cal dressings, usually without cheese. If there are marinades or preps, I ask for no butter and sauces on the side. Additionally, I'll ask for a to-go box and plan to cut the portion size down since most restaurants serve you enough food for two to three meals.
PS: Do you use a fitness tracker?
EC: Yes, the Fitbit Charge HR. It has helped me track and keep an eye on my fitness level for the day, and it helps me keep track of my sleep too - that's been very important as well. I need an adequate amount of rest to feel refreshed and ready to tackle the day ahead.
PS: What role did Gold's Gym play in your journey?
EC: Gold's Gym is where my fitness journey began. The employees and instructors are all so friendly and greet you with big smiles when you arrive. My kids go to Kids Klub when I work out and they LOVE it. They often beg me and bug me about when they can go again! The other people working out at Gold's Gym become familiar faces and often greet you and help keep the energy going throughout. I would definitely recommend Gold's Gym!
PS: What advice do you have for anyone starting out on a weight-loss journey?
EC: Take the time to sit down and set your goals. What is your big, deep-down "why" you're doing this? Break that big goal into smaller, attainable goals. Don't expect the scale to move right away. You'll see and feel differences (energy, tightness of clothing, etc.) long before you'll see the needle on the scale move. And most importantly, don't get discouraged! It takes time!
ICYMI, Whole Foods Has the Most Amazing Self-Serve Mochi Bars
Plenty of Whole Foods stores have self-serve salad bars and hot bars, but does yours have a mochi ice cream bar? If you're lucky, it does. Some Whole Foods stores, including Fremont, CA, and Wheaton, IL, have a space in their bakery section devoted to a freezer full of the Japanese dessert of pounded sticky rice filled with ice cream. If you haven't bitten into a squishy, sweet, cold mochi, you're seriously missing out.
Whole Foods' eye-catching bins of mochi have a variety of brightly colored flavors, including chocolate, passion fruit, and a favorite of ours, lychee. While there's something so satisfying about seeing all the flavors laid out and hand picking your favorites to enjoy immediately, Whole Foods also sells packaged boxes of mochi in the freezer aisle if your location doesn't have the self-serve option. Trader Joe's Strawberry Mochi is a favorite of ours, too. If you want to visually satisfy your mochi craving, read ahead to get all the details on Whole Foods' coveted self-serve mochi bars, and then try mochi for yourself ASAP if you haven't already.

If You Have Private Student Loans, This Error May Wipe Away Your Debt
A large-scale paperwork error may permanently clear the student loan debt for thousands upon thousands of college graduates. After taking students to court over late payments, the National Collegiate Student Loan Trusts is unable to prove its ownership over the loans in question. Judges are consequently having to dismiss these lawsuits, wiping away the defendants' debt.
The National Collegiate Student Loan Trusts is an umbrella group consisting of 15 trusts amounting to 800,000 private student loans valued at over $12 billion. According to The New York Times, the group does not have the necessary paperwork to prove ownership over the loans, since the loans actually originated in banks and were later sold to investors. It has been reported that the loans affected by this oversight amount to $5 billion.
The ongoing crisis - well, for the trust group, that is - proves a larger problem about private loans. While federal loans are funded and regulated by the government, private loans are subject to arbitrary and rapidly rising interest rates. Graduates with federal loans may select payment plans suited to their incomes. Private borrowers, on the other hand, face many issues.
In an interview with The New York Times, Samantha Watson spoke about her experience. The 33-year-old mother of three said she had a difficult time understanding the fine print when she applied for a private loan to attend Lehman College. After falling behind on her payments, National Collegiate took her to court.
There, they filed documents falsely claiming she attended a school she never did. "I tried to be honest," Watson said. Adding, "I said, 'Some of these loans I took out, and I'll be responsible for them, but some I didn't take.'" Her debt - amounting to $31,000 - has since been wiped entirely.
30 Ways You Can Work Like Rihanna on Halloween This Year
Rihanna is always one of our automatic go-to picks for Halloween costume ideas. From her totally sheer dress at 2014's CFDA Awards to her mustard-yellow, fur-trimmed cape at 2015's Met Gala, the singer has sported so many memorable looks throughout the years that there's basically something there for everyone. So why not channel her for Halloween this year?
Miley Cyrus's "Younger Now" Video Is Basically a Big Tribute to Elvis Presley
Miley Cyrus is going back to her roots. On Friday, the singer dropped the music video for her new single, "Younger Now," and it's full of nostalgia. Not only does she sing along with a puppet version of her younger self (yes, really), but she also impersonates one of her idols, Elvis Presley, who passed away 40 years ago this month. Aside from jamming out on the guitar and kissing an older woman, she also seems to poke fun at her Hannah Montana days by doing a hoedown-inspired dance in a 1950s sock-hop setting. Needless to say, we can't wait to see what the rest of her album will sound like!
Arya and Bran's Innocent Hug on Game of Thrones Might Have Devastating Implications
Over the course of a just a handful of season seven episodes, Bran Stark has officially become Westeros's biggest weirdo. OK, OK - being omniscient (or something close to it) probably takes a toll on the psyche, but what's the deal, man? Well, if the theory Redditor riffy61 recently posited ends up coming true, then Bran has way more than the Night's King and Westeros's impending doom on his mind; he's dealing with the potential death of one of his sisters.
Let's back up: in the season's fourth episode, "The Spoils of War," Arya makes her grand return to Winterfell and has a happy reunion with both of her siblings, Bran and Sansa. When she hugs Bran out by the Weirwood tree, their embrace is still a little cold thanks to Bran's new, stilted demeanor, but it's markedly more human than the hug he and Sansa share in the previous episode. When Sansa hugs him, Bran sits completely still, staring into space; when Arya hugs him, he puts a protective hand on her back while staring over her shoulder directly at Sansa. It's after this staredown that Bran gifts Arya with the Valyrian steel dagger that Littlefinger hands over earlier that day.
While many people believe Bran's choice to give Arya the dagger means that she's going to have to fight a White Walker at some point soon - since Bran can probably see the future and Valyrian steel is one of the few things that can kill the sentient popsicles, it stands to reason he'd want to appropriately arm his sibling for what's to come - riffy61's Reddit theory suggests the threat to Arya is actually much closer than we all think ("The call is coming from inside the castle," if you will):
"When Bran reunites with Sansa at Winterfell (S7 EP3) he very clearly does not embrace her back when she is hugging him (we see a view that shows his hands remain by his side). In fact, while Sansa hugs him he stares blankly beyond her (which yes, I recognize is kind of his thing to do now). However, when he reunites (S7 EP4) with Arya he does hug her back (a view is shown with his arm around her), and while his face is still blank-ish, there definitely appears to be a hint of concern as he stares over Arya's shoulder at Sansa (who looks down). Bran knows that something is not right with Sansa and that she will likely do something that hurts her family. He made a point of arming Arya with that dagger, which he can see she will have to use for some reason not yet known to us. Will she have to kill Sansa?? Only Bran knows for now."
Sansa has only just reunited with her long-lost siblings - will she really double-cross one of them to the point where Arya thinks she has to kill her? As crazy as the thought might seem, the season's fifth episode definitely has a few key scenes that would support this theory.
First of all, there's the moment in Ned and Catelyn's former bedroom at Winterfell where Arya confronts what she believes to be Sansa's shady politics (some Northern lords talk sh*t about Jon Snow behind his back to Sansa earlier in the episode, and she doesn't defend him). Sansa coolly brushes her little sister's complaints to the side, telling her that they need to "work together" rather than "cutting off heads" (which . . . fair). Second of all, there are the seeds of discontent Littlefinger plants in Arya's head by leading her to a letter Sansa wrote to Robb under duress in a previous season. Will that turn the tides on how Arya feels about her big sister and lead to drastic action?
Sadly, it looks like Bran isn't going to just come out and say which scenario he's seen (damn you, Three-Eyed Raven), so, as always, we'll just have to wait and see. Unless, of course, you're on board with that whole Game of Thrones leak . . .
2017 Is Extra Exciting For These Pregnant Stars
We're all hoping for good things to happen in the last few months of 2017, but some stars are expecting more than just success and happiness - they're also expecting babies. Beyoncé announced her pregnancy in February and recently gave birth to twins, as did George and Amal Clooney, who named their new bundles of joy Alexander and Ella. A crop of other stars still have buns in the oven, like first-time moms Serena Williams and Julia Stiles, so we can't wait to see the rest of Hollywood's newest additions when they arrive!
This Is Why I'm Keeping My American Last Name When I Get Married
"So what's your new name going to be when you get married?" My answer: "It's going to be 'Emilia' . . . wait for it . . . 'Benton.'"
Most people express surprise and shock when I tell them I don't plan to change my name when I get married later this year, but in 2017, I'm equally shocked that most people would just assume I would, because it's what you're "supposed" to do (here in the US, anyway). But a name is such a huge part of one's identity, and my decision is one that I actually have given a lot of thought to - and the reason is probably one you'd never guess.
My mother was born and raised in Lima, Peru, where she lived for most of her life before she finished medical school, married my American dad, and eventually moved to my hometown of Houston, TX, a few years before my twin sister and I were born.
In Peru, children are given four total names at birth: first name, middle name, father's last name, mother's last name. When women get married, they traditionally keep their legal birth names instead of taking on their partner's. This is exactly what all my seven Peruvian tías have done, and the traditions are actually the same in Mexico, where my fiancé is from.
Despite the fact that my mom's Peruvian culture was always a huge part of her life, she chose to follow the American custom and took my dad's last name, swapping her original middle name for just her father's last name's initial. Her legal name became Claudia S. Benton - the S stood for Subiria.
Since my mom passed away when I was 11, when I got engaged, I turned to my dad and her sisters to try to learn about how she came to this decision. My aunts suggested she was just beginning her career as a doctor, and it's likely she thought that having an American name would give her an advantage in the medical field when it came to being taken seriously by her future colleagues. My dad has told me she was convinced she would end up at a program either in Detroit or Miami, because "that's where they sent all the foreign-born Latinos." I can certainly sympathize with that, as I've been stereotyped and even had my intelligence insulted in professional and educational settings simply because I'm visibly Latina. But I'd be lying if I said that revelation, and the fact that my mom might have gone to lengths to conceal her Latino last name, didn't also make me sad.
I've known for years, long before I met my now-fiancé, that I wanted to keep my name if and when I got married. Even though it's been almost 19 years since my mom passed away unexpectedly, she's still widely remembered within the Texas medical field and in the large hospital she worked at. It never fails to make me proud any time I am recognized as Claudia Benton's daughter, so why would I want people not to know I'm related to this amazing woman? My mom's decision might have been an effort to fight stereotypes, but my decision to keep my American last name, her last name, has everything to do with her legacy.
Some Petty Drama About Peter Kraus Becoming the Next Bachelor Is Brewing at ABC
While we still don't know who the next Bachelor will be, we might know who it isn't going to be: fan favorite Peter Kraus. Judging from a seemingly pointed tweet from The Bachelor creator Mike Fleiss, Peter's behavior in the finale of the most recent season of The Bachelorette is not what the franchise is looking for.
One of the biggest problems with The Bachelor is a question that has been plaguing the reality series since its inception in 2002: can two people really find true love over the course of just one month? If you look at all the couples who have ridden off into the sunset after the credits rolled and gone on to find their own happily ever afters (be it with each other, or Fit Tea sponsorships), there's definitely room to argue that, yes, going on The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, or Bachelor in Paradise can result in a contestant making a genuine connection with someone. Just look at BIP's Jade Roper and Tanner Tolbert, who recently welcomed their first child, or Bachelorette couple Trista and Ryan Sutter, who have been married since 2003.
Then again, getting engaged after only knowing each other for one month is a pretty rare thing to find outside of the couples who meet within Bachelor Nation. Peter Kraus, one of the final two contestants on Rachel Lindsay's season of The Bachelorette this year, cited this as his reason for not wanting to propose to Rachel, despite his passionate feelings for her (he said he wanted them to spend more time together as boyfriend and girlfriend first, but she refused anything other than a proposal and chose Bryan Abasolo instead). Their subsequent breakup was one of the most emotional moments in all of Bachelorette history, especially because, to many fans, it was clear that the love between Rachel and Peter was genuine. Was Peter so wrong for wanting to get to know Rachel before entering into a serious commitment? There are plenty of people who would say no, but Fleiss certainly isn't one of them.
While rumors swirl about who the next lucky leading man on the show will be when it returns in 2018, Fleiss posted a subtweet that really seems to be aimed at Peter.
Do we really want a Bachelor who isn't ready to settle down with a woman he loves? Hmmm. Not what #thebachelor is all about...
- Mike Fleiss (@fleissmeister) August 17, 2017
Adding to speculation that the tweet is about Peter is People's recent interview with an anonymous source close to the show, who revealed that Bachelor producers see the former contestant as their "worst nightmare" because he couldn't be coerced into proposing to Rachel in the end. "The fact that no one could talk Peter into buckling under and just giving her the ring - and that he wouldn't play along - absolutely enraged the higher-ups at the show," the source said. "Including Fleiss, definitely. He is totally on their sh*t list forever, and there is no way they will reward him with a shot at The Bachelor. No way."
Reality Steve, who was one of the first to break the news about the Bachelor in Paradise controversy in June (among many other Bachelor Nation bombshells), also got in on the drama about Peter with a few tweets of his own.
(1/2) This is what I'm hearing: They absolutely want Peter as the "Bachelor." Hearing he told them no. Now they're leaking stuff to People
- RealitySteve (@RealitySteve) August 17, 2017
(2/2)...pretending they never wanted him in first place. BS. They want him, he said no apparently, & now they turn the narrative around
- RealitySteve (@RealitySteve) August 17, 2017
Let's just pray that they don't bring Juan Pablo back for another try.
The 12 Most Underrated Horror Movies of All Time
As a kid, I always gravitated toward horror comic books and movies - the darker, the better. I'm sure my parents never thought it would be something I would one day base a career on, curating for film festivals and now Shudder! I love finding films and sharing them with others; it's kind of like a spooky "show and tell." There are lots of different flavors and nuances of horror, but here is a wide range of underrated or overlooked films, from comedic ones like Murder Party and Mr. Vampire, to downright terrifying ones like Evil Dead Trap, to sinister and cerebral ones like Pulse (the original, not the lame remake).

It's Time to Settle This Once and For All: Are These Frosted Cookies Trash or Amazing?
You know those soft frosted sugar cookies from the bakery section in the grocery store? They're delicious, right? Or maybe you think they're a sad excuse for cookies and wouldn't dare eat one voluntarily. It turns out the sugary cookies are very polarizing, and a viral tweet has thrown the internet into a serious debate.
its that time of year again when stores sell these bottom of the barrel, flavorless piece of shit things they have the nerve to call cookies http://pic.twitter.com/tTA8Jx1kBl
- t (@taysux) February 13, 2017
Twitter user taysux tweeted a photo of the cookies, saying, "It's that time of year again when stores sell these bottom of the barrel, flavorless piece of sh*t things they have the nerve to call cookies." With 14,000 "likes" and counting, it seems plenty of people agree with her extreme opinion of the dessert. Others, however, couldn't disagree more. "Delete this blasphemous tweet. They're the god of all cookies," one person tweeted in response. "These are a delicacy and should be treated as such," another tweeted.
The POPSUGAR office is just as torn as the internet on this highly controversial subject. "It's not even a good cookie, but you still eat it because it has a lot of nostalgic feelings. It's disgustingly delicious," POPSUGAR editor Victor Verdugo said. It's time to settle this debate once and for all: are these frosted sugar cookies from the grocery store disgusting or delicious?
The Obama Girls Have Grown Up Before Our Eyes
Barack and Michelle Obama's little girls, Malia and Sasha, aren't so little anymore! As the nation's most public mom when she was first lady, Michelle always tried to connect with other Americans raising their kids. Malia was just 10 when Barack was elected, and Sasha was 7. "My life is no different from any other working mother. Mine is just more public," former First Lady Michelle Obama told us back in 2012, adding, "Some of us have more resources than others, but the pain, the challenges, the fears of motherhood, the frustrations of being a woman, the hopes and dreams that you have for your daughters, and all our daughters are the same." As the former first family adjusts to private life, let's take a look at the Obama girls' family photo album.
20 Songs You Didn't Know Came From Sia
As Sia becomes more and more of a household name, we've been thinking about how else she's impacted the music world. There's "Chandelier," of course, which was memorably covered on The Voice. And let's not forget "Elastic Heart," which caused a stir with its music video. What you might not have known, though, is Sia wrote Beyoncé's "Pretty Hurts", plus songs for Maroon 5, Britney Spears, and more. Wondering what else has come from Sia? We've collected 20 songs that have been written, cowritten, and sometimes even performed by the Australian artist. Keep reading, and prepare for a few surprises.
The Royal Rule That Keeps Prince Philip From Being a King
Prince Philip became a member of the British royal family when he married then-Princess Elizabeth in November 1947. Born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, he gave up his titles on their wedding day and was instead named Duke of Edinburgh. When Elizabeth became queen after the death of her father in 1952, Philip did not become a king - and there's a longstanding rule that explains why.
In the UK, the husband of a reigning queen is called a prince consort, no matter what. Queen Victoria, who reigned from 1837 to 1901, wanted to make her husband, Albert, king consort, but the British government wouldn't allow it because he was technically a foreigner. Instead, he was given the title of prince consort. Technically, there is no automatic right to any title when marrying a monarch; it wasn't until five years after her succession to the throne that Elizabeth II made Philip a prince of the United Kingdom, and he has never formally been designated a prince or king consort title, which is purely symbolic anyway.
On the flip side, the wife of a king normally gets the title of queen, but it too is only ceremonial; Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon, the Queen Mother, became queen consort when George VI became king, and the same rule goes for Kate Middleton, who will also earn the title when Prince William becomes king. An exception to this will be made when Prince Charles takes the throne, as Clarence House announced after their wedding that his wife, Camilla, will be known as princess consort, saying, "It is intended that Mrs. Parker Bowles should use the title HRH The Princess Consort when The Prince of Wales accedes to The Throne." However, when the time comes, Charles will have the power to upgrade her title to queen consort if he so chooses. And here's another plot twist: should Prince Philip outlive his wife and see his son Charles become king, he would be able to retain the style "his majesty" and could also be given the title king father, like that of the Queen Mother when Elizabeth II took the throne.

I'm Puerto Rican and I Don't Speak Spanish
If you're like most people, I know exactly the look on your face right now. It's one filled with confusion and a little judgment - what kind of Latina doesn't speak Spanish? Are you even really Latina if you don't?
You might have noticed that I said I don't speak Spanish, instead of I can't speak Spanish. I can speak the language, although it's a bit broken. A little backstory: I'm biracial. My mother is Puerto Rican, and my father is black. Growing up in white suburban Maryland, my mother didn't have much of a need to speak Spanish around my siblings and me. But over time, I picked it up from her and my Nuyorican family when we visited. (Plus, eavesdropping on my mom's phone conversations with my grandmother and aunt ensured that I understood it better than any of them thought.) I eventually minored in Spanish in college; now, it slips out fluently from time to time - while ordering at the bodega, while visiting Mexico, while having a few cocktails and feeling my reservations melt away.
The real reason I don't speak Spanish? I'm nervous. Any time I tried to speak Spanish to my family when I was younger, I got teased about my accent. When I opened my mouth to Latino friends, they'd giggle or call me names they thought I didn't understand. So after awhile, I stopped trying. The sad truth is that I'd rather speak Spanish around perfect strangers who don't know my backstory than the people I actually know, all because I'm afraid of "that look."
Coming from two cultures, one of my biggest anxieties has always been being seen as "not enough." I was teased by the black kids in high school for being so light-skinned and talking like a white girl and teased by my Latino friends in college for not speaking Spanish and talking like a white girl. For a long time, my "otherness" left me in a permanent middle ground of uncertainty - of feeling like I didn't belong because my hair, my looks, and my language skills weren't "enough" for either of my backgrounds.
But then, I grew up. And now I've realized that speaking Spanish does not have to define my Latino heritage and pride. Maybe I fumble over my r's and mix up tenses, but I can still fly my Puerto Rican flag high. I eat my Spanish-speaking grandmother's pasteles on Sundays, sing "Vivir Mi Vida" in the shower with all my might, and support Latinos every chance I get, whether it's at work or in my personal life. (I own every Jennifer Lopez album, for goodness sake - even Como Ama Una Mujer!)
But because I do feel like speaking better Spanish is a missing puzzle piece of my identity, I'm working on it. When I find the time, I take Skype classes through Let's Go Spanish (practicing conjugations in your pj's can be awkward but very convenient), and listening to Spanish podcasts helps keep me sharp. The cleaning woman at my day job is from Puerto Rico, the same town as my grandmother; late at night, when the overhead lights have dimmed and everyone else is gone but the two of us, she helps me practice by chatting about our days in Spanish. And as I speak, she smiles encouragingly; there's no giggling at my accent or judgment that I'm not Latino enough. We're just two women, generations apart, with a shared heritage and respect.
This Clip From the 1979 Solar Eclipse Will Make You Realize Why It's So Special
It's undoubtedly clear by now just how special the solar eclipse will be on Aug. 21. People are traveling to see this incredible phenomenon - just to be in its path of totality. If you want a peek at how moving this experience will be, look no further than ABC News coverage of the last big solar eclipse that occurred in North America - 38 years ago.
The clip follows the solar eclipse that took place on Feb. 26, 1979. Anchor Frank Reynolds leads you through the moment - right up to the solar eclipse happening around the six minute and 30 second mark. Reynolds wraps up the eclipse coverage, by stating, "And as I said, not until August 21, 2017, will another eclipse be visible from North America. That's 38 years from now. May the shadow of the moon fall on a world at peace." Watch the clip above and prepare to witness something incredible on Aug. 21.
Jordaan Lost 160 Pounds and She Doesn't Even Exercise Anymore
Weighing 310 pounds at her heaviest, it wasn't until Jordaan Spark was looking through holiday photos in January 2015 (the 6th to be exact), that it hit her. "I just was in shock of what I saw, I knew I was bigger but I didn't know I was THAT big," she told POPSUGAR. That was the day her weight-loss journey began. Jordaan has dropped an impressive 160 pounds, and went from a tightly-fitting size 26 in jeans to a size six.
To lose the weight, Jordaan focused on changing her eating habits, exercising here and there. By playing around with a lot of different dieting concepts, Jordaan was able to figure out what worked best for her - low-carb. She also cut out junk food like chips, sweets, soda, and fast food.
Jordaan also had lap band surgery, six months after starting her journey, but says that it didn't affect anything. She could still eat as much as she used to and was still hungry constantly. "The nurse said there was two percent of people that the lap band doesn't work for," Jordaan said. "She thinks I am one of those two percent."
As far as working out went, Jordaan says, "I started by doing little exercises around the house that I found on Pinterest that had minimal impact on my joints," such as wall sits, planks, and crunches. "From there I started doing at-home workout DVDs, and then felt comfortable enough to go outside and walk/run." Surprisingly, she says, "I don't work out anymore. I have two jobs and two kids that keep me plenty busy."
Aside from the number on the scale, one of Jordaan's favorite non-scale victories is people being able to pick her up. "I love it, it's an absolute confidence boost," she said. Jordaan also loves the freedom of being able to "go into any store and find my size, being able to do things such as jump on a trampoline without fear of breaking it." But more than anything, Jordaan credits her children for her success and motivation, citing them as the reason she decided to lose weight in the first place.
Jordaan says, "I love the Crockpot so I find recipes that fit my low-carb diet and make them, and sometimes I'll have the leftovers for lunch the next day. I try not to snack, but when I do it's usually on some nuts."
Jordaan shares that she got discouraged for a month worried about her loose skin, but says, "do NOT let that fear stand in the way of your journey. I kept telling myself, I can hide my loose skin really well, I couldn't hide being fat."
Since Jordaan has definitely been through the ups and downs of a weight-loss journey, we appreciate any advice she can share. She says, "when you get discouraged, don't quit, then you'll be back to where you were, wishing you were at where you're at now."
The Most Precious Photos of Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel's Baby Boy
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel welcomed Silas Randall Timberlake into the world in April 2015, but we've only seen a few glimpses of him since. That wasn't the first time we've seen Silas, of course - Justin also posted a cute photo during the NBA playoffs and shared an adorable snap on Father's Day last year. One thing's for sure, though: we still need more, because Justin's already proving to be one of the cutest dads in Hollywood. Keep scrolling to see all the photos we've seen so far.

Exercising Too Much Will Stall Your Weight Loss and Even Make You Gain Weight - Here's How
Have you heard of adrenal fatigue? It happens when you work out too much - and it can seriously hinder your physical goals, as well as your health itself. "Exercising at a high intensity for an extended period of time, especially in addition to the stress of work, life, relationships, and body image, can throw you into adrenal fatigue," warned personal trainer and injury-prevention specialist Liz Letchford, MS, ATC.
Part of it comes down to cortisol, the stress hormone that makes you retain belly fat; when you keep going past your physical limits, you're messing with cortisol levels. "Your body essentially has exhausted its capacity to fight, but you continue to put it in 'fight or flight"' mode by exercising - especially high-intensity, long-duration exercise. This throws your hormones out of balance, causing fatigue, poor performance, fogginess, and weight gain - especially around your middle."
The end result? Weight gain. Exercise "is not just about strong muscles and losing fat," she said. "Your entire central nervous system is regulated by a complicated system of hormones. Throw them out of whack, and you've got some serious issues."
Unfortunately, overtraining is a trend on the rise. "We're seeing it more and more often in fitness enthusiasts. When it comes to exercise, more is just more . . . more is not better. I am a huge advocate for optimizing your workout routine instead of throwing your body through every intense bootcamp as often as possible."
How do you fight this - and see results instead of letting your fitness plan backfire? "Choose a workout routine that supports your goals," said Liz. "Stick to long-duration/low-intensity, or short-duration/high-intensity."
She also warned against the ever popular two-a-day workout routine. "Stay away from two-a-days as part of your normal workout regimen, and take those rest days - your body needs it to recover from all of the breaking down that has been happening during workouts."
Heed her warning - she's seen what can happen firsthand. But she's also been able to help those who have gained weight from overtraining lose it. "I've worked with several clients who - through reduction of long-duration high-intensity exercise, stress reduction techniques, and proper nutrition - were able to finally feel like themselves again, and the inflammation and weight eventually returned to normal."

Shawn Mendes Fans Go Ballistic During His Surprise Duet of "Mercy" With Ed Sheeran

The Top 4 Workouts to Avoid If You're Trying to Lose Weight
We encourage all types of fitness, for more reasons than just weight loss. While weight loss is an awesome side effect of working out and living a healthier lifestyle, exercise can benefit your brain, your mood, your sleep, and your overall health, too!
However, if you're focusing on dropping pounds, are there types of exercises you should flat-out avoid? We asked certified personal trainer John Rowley - International Sports Science Association (ISSA) director of wellness and founder of UX3 Nutrition - for his opinion on the matter. While we still encourage anyone to give these workouts a shot (in fact, we love all of them!), these four may not give you the results you're looking for if weight loss is your top priority.
- CrossFit: "CrossFit is number one on the hit list," Rowley said in an email. "The risk-to-results ratio just isn't there." If you're just beginning your weight-loss journey, you likely won't have the strength to get an effective workout without injuring yourself. "It's very popular, and I can see how fun and challenging it is," he noted. "But the way the exercises are done is very dangerous, especially for someone not in tiptop shape."
- Yoga: Rowley explained that yoga "has a lot of benefits, but losing weight is not one of them." Although you'll gain strength and tone up, if you're aiming to shed pounds, "you want to work as much of your body as possible to lose weight and to stimulate your metabolism," and Rowley said yoga is not the most effective way to do so.
- Indoor Cycling: While indoor cycling classes are great for exercise veterans, Rowley said, "they can get out of control as well," and the format of the classes can put you at risk for injury. "The rooms can get too hot, the movements can be too aggressive for some, and any vigorous exercise will make you hungry." More on that hunger in the next point . . .
- Cardio-Only Routines: Rowley said these should be avoided if your only goal is weight loss. Why? The munchies. "Cardio will help burn calories but can often make you hungry, leading to excessive calorie-consuming after workouts," putting you at a higher risk for undoing your progress. Additionally, if you're only doing cardio and not balancing with strength training, it can lead to muscle loss. "The loss of muscle destroys your metabolism; if you are going to do cardio, do it in conjunction with a well thought-out weight training workout."
Again, we love (and do) each of these workouts - and you absolutely can lose weight doing any of them. But if your number one goal is weight loss, Rowley warned, you might want to reprioritize your workout schedule.
So what should you do? "The only way for lasting, healthy weight loss that will change your body composition is through resistance training," Rowley said. "Lifting weights stimulates your muscles; your muscles burn calories even when you are eating and resting." We encourage you to be open to all types of workouts - get comfortable with movement of all types! But start with a good, healthy balance of strength training (as recommended by this trainer) and a bit of cardio to help build up your endurance so you can keep shedding pounds and crush your goals.

Mitt Romney Wants Trump to "Apologize" and Stop Peddling Both Sides of the Argument
Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney wrote the message that all Republicans should learn from and replicate. In a Facebook post on Aug. 18, Romney condemned President Donald Trump's comments on the "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, VA, in which neo-Nazis and white supremacists violently clashed with counterprotesters. Romney called on Trump to apologize and to forgo his defense that there are two sides to the story.
Romney, who told CNN last year that a Trump presidency would mean "trickle-down racism, trickle-down bigotry, trickle-down misogyny," did not mince his words. The Facebook post, which has more than 67,000 reactions, 30,000 comments, and 21,000 shares, states that Trump's statement ". . . caused racists to rejoice, minorities to weep, and the vast heart of America to mourn." Romney also wanted Trump to think about what his message said to marginalized groups of people. "In homes across the nation, children are asking their parents what this means. Jews, blacks, Hispanics, Muslims are as much a part of America as whites and Protestants. But today they wonder. Where might this lead? To bitterness and tears, or perhaps to anger and violence?" He then unequivocally wrote that Trump should do the following:
He should address the American people, acknowledge that he was wrong, apologize. State forcefully and unequivocally that racists are 100 percent to blame for the murder and violence in Charlottesville. Testify that there is no conceivable comparison or moral equivalency between the Nazis – who brutally murdered millions of Jews and who hundreds of thousands of Americans gave their lives to defeat – and the counter-protestors who were outraged to see fools parading the Nazi flag, Nazi armband and Nazi salute. And once and for all, he must definitively repudiate the support of David Duke and his ilk and call for every American to banish racists and haters from any and every association.
You can read the full post ahead.
I will dispense for now from discussion of the moral character of the president's Charlottesville statements. Whether he...
Posted by Mitt Romney on Friday, August 18, 2017
As plenty of people already know, Romney's post is the most basic message any Republican should be sending to Trump. Not excusing neo-Nazis and white supremacists for their behavior is the easiest thing to do. However, it appears that to Trump it was, and it requires more Republicans to come out against the president and remind him what America stands for.
After This Tweet, We'd Bet Ben Carson Regrets His Statements About Poverty
Once Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson made several tone-deaf statements about poverty on a May 24 Sirius XM radio broadcast, the folks at Dictionary.com decided to use something inarguable - the basics of the English language - to refute his claims.
"I think poverty to a large extent is also a state of mind," Dr. Carson told friend and radio host Armstrong Williams. "You take somebody that has the right mindset, you can take everything from them and put them on the street, and I guarantee in a little while they'll be right back up there." Carson, whose job - among other things - is meant to focus on providing affordable housing and resources for impoverished Americans, quickly caught attention on social media for this sweeping generalization.
That's where the dictionary comes in. In response to Carson's interpretation of poverty, Dictionary.com tweeted the actual definition of the word.
Huh. We say poverty is the condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support.https://t.co/HBXsKo83sQ https://t.co/IRdMSW93eC
- Dictionary.com (@Dictionarycom) May 24, 2017
One of these things is not like the other! Perhaps with a bit of linguistic research, Dr. Carson may come away with a more empathetic attitude toward marginalized communities. As somebody who grew up in poverty, one would expect that the secretary would entertain the idea that not every problem can be solved with a can-do attitude, even if his own story turned out successfully. At any rate, he's surely regretting his poor choice of words - there's no arguing with the dictionary.
The Smartest Whole Foods Shoppers Take Advantage of This Hack
We reached out to a Whole Foods employee to learn insider tips, and the best secret she shared is that you can taste anything before you buy it. Seriously - there's a company-wide Try Before You Buy policy. This includes but is not limited to anything fresh from the produce section or any packaged foods within the center aisles of the store. She told POPSUGAR, "This is super handy when you head into the produce section. I've used it for things like a new apple variety - I'm very particular about apples. If there's a new apple that comes out, you can just ask someone in the produce section to cut you a slice, and then it actually turns into this fun communal thing because if you do that then other people will see it, and then you're hanging out with other customers."
You might want to brace yourself for what she told me next. "The same thing works for the cheese department, which is extra fun. If you have a specific question, you can end up tasting a bunch of cheeses to get the right one for whatever you're up to. Also, team members are completely empowered to open things on the interior shelves, too. If there's some weird cracker and you're like, 'Can this possibly be good if it's a gluten-free, seed-based cracker?' You can try it before you decide to buy it."
Cheese! Lacinato kale! Vegan white-cheddar popcorn! Not that I'm encouraging taking advantage of this tip so much that you get a free lunch made of samples from all over the store, but I'm just saying it's possible. Even frequent Whole Foods shoppers (like me) had no idea this budget-friendly policy existed. So the next time you step into your neighborhood Whole Foods Market, avoid the "Whole Foods, whole paycheck" stereotype by simply asking someone to try what you're eyeing.

6 Ways to Make the Absolute Most of Your Summer Internship
If you've heard it once, you've heard it a thousand times: experience is the best teacher! And what better way to learn than when there are people willing to teach you? That's why Summer internships are a win-win. Not only can you get some valuable experience while the company gets an extra hand and someone to add to their potential talent pipeline, but you also may even get paid. More importantly, if you play your cards right, an internship can turn into a full-time job. So take some initiative and make the most of your Summer internship!
1. Dress to Impress
How you present yourself is important. Unlike being a permanent employee, as an intern you have limited time to show who you really are, so how you are perceived during your internship carries weight. As you get ready for your workday every day, remember that you are not going to the beach or a pool party. You are in a professional environment, so be sure to dress appropriately. Even if you see others dressed unprofessionally, make sure you maintain your level of professionalism. If you are not certain about the dress code, ask your immediate supervisor or someone in HR.
2. Always Stay Positive
No one wants to be around a negative Nancy or Danny downer all day. If you are normally the person who complains about everything, make sure you readjust that attitude and put on a smiling face. If you want to make the most of your Summer internship, it is important that you have a can-do attitude, stay positive, and bring good energy with you to the workplace. When you make people feel good with your presence, it makes them want to be around you more and look at you favorably. A lasting positive impression can do wonders for your career, especially early on. It is often said that people do business with those they like, and while this isn't a popularity contest, remaining positive will help shine a light on what matters, which is how awesome you really are.
3. Keep Company Business Off of Social Media
I know it's customary to tweet about everything you are doing or use Snapchat or Instagram to highlight the fun parts of your day, but it is imperative to realize that while you are an intern you should keep your company's business off of your social media accounts. Talking about your supervisor's fashion sense or how bored you are in the office will not help you make the most of your Summer internship. Even if your page is private, reserve your opinion for you and you only. Remember: anything you post on social media can and will be use against you in the court of public opinion.
4. Work Hard and Take Initiative
As an intern, there are basic things you have to do in order to guarantee your success. Those things include being on time, dressing and being professional, and taking on assignments without complaining. But who wants to be basic? If the goal is to stand out and make the most of your internship, then working hard and taking initiative is a must. That means not just doing what is asked, but going above and beyond to do the things you haven't been asked to do but that you know need to be done. Taking on an additional task that wasn't assigned to you shows that you are willing to do what it takes to help your team reach the next level and puts you on top of the "I like this intern" list. This also allows you to gain more experience than you would normally attain as an intern.
5. Make Key Connections
It is often said that "your net worth equals your network," which means that who you know can be equally important as what you know. With that said, while you are at your internship, it is important that you informally network with different departments to connect with those in senior positions who may have the power to employ you at a later date. Most people love to speak about themselves, so use this as an opportunity to learn more about them and what they do. Ultimately, these connections will be beneficial as your internship comes to a close.
6. Show Your Gratitude
Lastly, a verbal "thank you" can go a long way, but a "thank you" that someone remembers goes even further. When you are wrapping up your Summer internship, make sure to show your gratitude for the opportunity. A handwritten card, flowers, and/or small gift to your boss, mentors, and other coworkers who helped you will go a long way in them remembering you. It is usually the small things that people remember best.
Wellness on the Fly: 7 Tips For Feeling Awesome When You Travel
Nowadays, jet-setting is as simple as pulling out a smartphone and typing a few words, and next thing you know, you're across the pond sipping Rosé and eating oil-drizzled bocconcini (yummm).
While the perks of travel bring fresh opportunities for connection, cultural inspiration, and much needed R&R, travel also requires we have a seriously strong set of tools in our self-care kit to stay balanced, vital, and energized on those heavy travel days. When we travel, we're thrown out of our normal routines. Our sleeping and eating patterns get disrupted. On flight days, we often scramble and hustle, becoming overwhelmed at best and hangry at worst.
During days of travel, our muscles naturally want to contract, cramp, and constrict, and the sympathetic nervous system, the one in charge of keeping us alert to wake up in time for the 3 a.m. alarm, begins running the show.
If allowed, traveling can start to feel overwhelming, but with a few simple techniques and the right attitude, the shift out of our comfort zone provides a clear opportunity to practice radical self-care. We can choose to either meet the change to our normal routine with resistance and frustration or to move into it with acceptance, flexibility, and a willingness to improvise with the help of a little proactive planning.
As an American yoga teacher based in Bali, engaged to an Aussie, I've grown quite accustomed to the shifting winds of travel. I've learned to view regular flight trips as an opportunity to approach the movement and change of routine as a part of - rather than a distraction from - my practice.
Here are seven simple tips for keeping your body, mind, and spirit feeling their best surrounding the days of travel.
1. Hydrate
Begin drinking lots of water a couple of days before a big flight and be sure to carry a refillable water bottle with you on the travel day. Avoid alcohol - yes, even those complimentary mini wine bottles on the plane. Alcohol, even a few days before the flight, can lead to dehydration, swelling, headaches, muscle cramping, and fatigue. Simply put: it's not worth it.
Drink water with lemon, coconut water, and regular purified water to ensure your cells are as hydrated as possible before getting on the plane.
2. Stretch
Many airports now have yoga or wellness rooms for weary travelers, including Dallas Fort Worth, Chicago O'Hare, and San Francisco. Leave the gate and give yourself a chance to breathe, stretch, and tap into the parasympathetic nervous system on a long flight. If there is no yoga room at the airport, find a quiet corner at a less busy terminal and spread out your mat or a sarong. Deep rhythmic breathing, forward folds, hip and shoulder openers, gentle inversions, and heart openers are all excellent for a mini practice and can make a tremendous difference in dissolving held tension from the journey.
3. Pack Healthy Snacks
Hit up the grocery store a day before you leave to pick up some healthy snack staples to bring with you on the plane. Though before a big trip there are always a thousand things to do, having a fresh bag of celery to crunch on instead of a bag of airport pretzels is worth the extra preparation. My favorites are celery, baby carrots, and sliced cucumbers. I also bring a couple of green apples, a bag full of sprouted almonds, and raw crackers.
4. Use Essential Oils
I keep a couple of my favorite essential oils in my bag - usually peppermint and lavender - to dab onto my wrist or onto my eye mask when we take off or land. Having a cleansing, calming smell at the tips of my fingers makes me feel centered and grounded even at 40,000 feet.
5. Moisturize
Travel dries us out, but treating our skin right doesn't need to be an at-home-only kind of practice. Pack a small bag of lip balm, face moisturizer, and hand cream to nourish your skin on the go. Not only will your skin thank you, but you'll feel better for taking good care of yourself.
6. Get Enough Rest
Give yourself plenty of time before you fly to get a lot of rest. If you can, take it easy when you land in your final destination. By resting, you're allowing your body the chance to work for you, resyncing its natural rhythms in a new time zone and place.
7. Keep Your Eyes Peeled For the Magic
One of the greatest gifts of travel is the refreshing influx of new energy. Whether you're walking through the airport to catch a connection or down a foreign city street, pay attention to the particular buzz and magic around you. Traveling bestows the blessing of being able to observe and participate in experience in a new, vibrant way, particularly because it is unfamiliar and out of the ordinary. Oftentimes in our familiar space of our daily routine, we're not as open to see the magic lurking in the mundane moments. Use the tremendous opportunity to really pay attention to what surrounds you and allow yourself to be moved by what you see. Many a-ha! moments and new creative inspiration happen when we step out of our normal day-to-day rhythm to be moved by what is new.
