This Rooftop Airport Pool Will Have You Crossing Your Fingers For a Flight Delay

How much does it suck when you have a huge flight delay or even a cancellation? If that ever happens to you while you're at Changi Airport in Singapore, just know that there is an amazing way to pass the time: a rooftop pool.

The international airport offers a beautiful pool and jacuzzi in the hotel in Terminal 1 that's available to everyone in the airport, regardless of which terminal you're using. There's a fee for nonhotel guests to use the pool, but really, when you're stuck in an airport and your options are crappy fast food and staring out the window or sunning yourself at the pool, the price is irrelevant.

For a glimpse of this amazing amenity, keep reading, and maybe consider checking out this airport next time you travel.

What You Need to Know About Verrit, the Startup Hillary Clinton Just Endorsed

Hillary Clinton took to Twitter on Sept. 3 to put forth an unexpected endorsement of a new startup called Verrit, dubbing it "a media platform for the 65.8 million!" While the figure is a clear reference to the votes which Clinton received during the election, the company itself drew rampant confusion from the internet - from questions as to why she'd involve herself with a startup to what exactly that startup purported to do, the website was primed to receive an influx of millions of curious followers in the wake of the announcement. But as with most politically-charged internet things in 2017, the Verrit website was subsequently hacked, went down, and has yet to get back up and running.

But what is Verrit, and why would it be a potential target for a cyberattack? Here, we've run through exactly what we do know about the platform.

What is Verrit?

According to Verrit's DonorBox profile - a popular web destination for investors - the company "collects and contextualizes noteworthy facts, stats, and quotes for politically engaged citizens. We center the shared interests, values, and aspirations of 65.8 million Clinton voters." The Verrit website itself, while down, reiterates that same mission statement but goes on to say that the actual content of the site itself runs on a merit system, where "each "verrit" is a verified item of information marked with a 7-digit identification code." It also instructs visitors on how to participate themselves, saying, "to authenticate a verrit, enter the code in the search bar and match it to our database." In other words, it's a source for those who are seeking information tailored to a massive audience of Clinton voters - and is aiming to make sure that those voters are armed to the teeth with verified information when they enter social media battles over the facts.

What does it look like?

While the site remains down, the Twitter account is still up and running and provides solid insight into what these messages look like. In short, they're statements and facts are confirmed via the crowdsourcing platform to ensure that they're truthful statements that can be used in public discourse - essentially working to fight against misinformation. They can be used as cards on social media, and look like this:

Who is behind Verrit?

Verrit was created by Peter and Leela Dauo, who are both in Clinton's innermost circles. Peter Dauo has been a digital strategist for various Clinton campaigns, worked on the John Kerry 2004 presidential effort, and was the voice behind the popular male-based movement #HillaryMen.

What actually took Verrit down?

Conservative publications have taken the stance that the platform went down as a result of the site being wholly unprepared for the massive Clinton following to traffic the site simultaneously, though it seems highly improbable that increased traffic would keep a website down for a full day, if not longer. It's far more likely that it was the result of a cyber or DDoS attack from those who saw a clear opportunity to take down a pro-Clinton site. Dauo, for his part, has taken to Twitter repeatedly with messages such as "Hillary endorsed @verrit and it was hit with a DDOS attack. Even though the site is down, WE HAVE 11,000 NEW TWITTER FOLLOWERS in 2 hours."

Why would Hillary back Verrit?

The most obvious reason is that the platform is aimed at her voting base. But beyond that, it's a way to fight against the fake facts that are put forth by the Trump White House - think the Bowling Green massacre, or some of the statements we've heard at rallies - and prove that there's a large contingency of regular people who are looking to have a base where they can get real information that they can trust. It's also not uncommon for presidential candidates to try and leverage their base towards a greater mission after the election; for example, Bernie Sanders's massive following and staff was segued into a nonprofit organization called Our Revolution.

5 Natural Tips For the Wellness-Loving Jet-Setter

The mind, body, and soul can always appreciate when we decide to pack up and explore new places. Sometimes the journey to get there has health-burdening effects - like being stuck on an airplane for hours, off-balance digestion, jet lag, and dry skin, to name a few. That shouldn't stop you from seeing more of the world. If you're a lover of travel and all things wellness, it's important to be mindful about supporting your body and sticking to a balanced routine while away from home. Have a long flight ahead of you and still want to keep up with your everyday wellness practices? Keep reading.

  1. Take echinacea before and after traveling: When this all-natural supplement is taken during travel time in the form of tablets or tea, it can help to reduce upper respiratory symptoms that appear as a result of flying, mid-travel headaches, and jet lag duration. It's a major immune booster filled with antioxidants. Start up to two weeks before your travels and follow up for another 14 days when you get back home.
  2. Use elixirs for a postflight glow: The way we look on the outside starts with what we put on the inside. For those with dietary restrictions, traveling can be a bit difficult. Flights usually serve highly processed meals and clean eating isn't always easily accessible when you're arriving in a foreign country. Beauty elixirs - nutritional powders that are packed with vitamins and minerals - can make up for it. Just add them to your water and drink up.
  3. Hydrate with more than just water: Flying can be extremely dehydrating and the effects can last for days, sometimes weeks. While drinking lots of water is always a good idea, there are other ways to hydrate. All-natural facial oils and thermal water sprays are the ideal carry-on companion. Apply before, during, and after traveling to kick up moisture and nourish dry skin.
  4. Fight inflammation with milk thistle: Flights and long car rides tend to end in some sort of discomfort and a bit of swelling. One way to combat this is with the help of natural supplements. Milk thistle is a highly anti-inflammatory, detoxifying option that can be found at your local Trader Joe's! If you want to get creative, you can open up the tablets and pour their contents right into a smoothie or drink to take on the go.
  5. Get some help staying stress-free: Some people get anxious while flying, some have trouble sleeping, and others just get stressed out on their way from point A to point B. Valerian root and lavender essential oil are calming herbal remedies. Take the root by mouth and add the oil to your temples, wrists, or favorite travel pillow to put yourself at ease.

Disneyland Just Released Its 2017 Halloween Merchandise, and It's SO Good

It feels like Disney's goal in life is to make us jump for joy. And, well, it's succeeding. As if we weren't already anticipating Halloweentime at Disneyland enough, it's gone and launched its 2017 Halloween-themed merchandise - and it's all SO good. Park-goers have taken to social media to share sneak peeks at what's now available at the parks for purchase. From a pumpkin Mickey mug to special ears, pins, t-shirts, and more, take a look at what's out, and make sure you don't miss it when you visit this Fall!

Why FP and Alice Are the OG Jughead and Betty on Riverdale

When it comes to relationships on Riverdale, none can hold a candle to Betty and Jughead's. They're insanely adorable, they support each other through difficult times, and they're the perfect mix of dark and light. As my OTP, I would never want anything to jeopardize their relationship, but even I can't deny the insane chemistry between their parents.

I know it's crazy to ship FP and Alice (Falice?), but isn't crazy what this show is all about? Trust me, I tried my best not to when watching them partake in playful batter after Jughead's birthday party and when they give each other death stares from across the table before the homecoming dance, but the final straw was when actress Mädchen Amick posted a selfie of her and Skeet Ulrich filming season two, writing, "#Riverdale fans, be careful what you wish for 😘." Seriously, who can resist that?

FP and Alice's sexual tension aside, it's clear their characters have a past that will only be explored more in coming episodes. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the father of Alice's mysterious son is actually FP, but that's a completely different story. Sure, it would be awkward for Bughead to have their parents date, but if Dan and Serena can make it work, why can't they? Look back at these FP and Alice moments from last season and get ready to set sail with this ship.

Why Drinking This Kind of Tea Could Help Shed Those Last Few Pounds

The health benefits of tea are vast, including soothing an upset stomach or helping to ease congestion. And while we've heard that matcha or peppermint tea are good teas to try if you're looking to lose weight, there's another tea out there that can help as well: white tea. While chatting with Bernadine Tay, global tea curator for Wedgwood, she shared this lesser-known benefit of sipping white tea.

"White tea actually stops new fat cells from forming," Tay told me while showing off Wedgwood's new Wonderlust Tea collection. The weight-loss benefits of white tea have been studied many times, including this study published in the journal Nutrition & Metabolism, and Tay pointed out that while it's been heavily studied, not many people realize that just drinking a few cups of white tea a day can help with losing weight.

White tea shares a lot of health benefits with black tea and green tea, but it goes through the least amount of processing, which makes it the most beneficial overall. It comes from the camellia sinensis plant and appears pale yellow when brewed. Besides stopping new fat cells from forming, white tea is also rich in antioxidants.

Tay noted, however, that while white tea boosts the breakdown of fat and slows down the growth of new fat, it is not a miracle worker. "It can help with weight loss, but it works best if you're healthy otherwise," she said. In other words, you can't eat whatever you want and think the white tea cancels it out. Livestrong recommends pairing the white tea with each meal and keeping up a regular fitness regimen.

These 2 Guys Met on Facebook and Helped Rescue More Than a Dozen Hurricane Harvey Victims

It's people like Alan Little that are the definition of humanity. Even when all was lost he headed out solo to help out...

Posted by Jevauhnte Barnaba on Tuesday, August 29, 2017

People everywhere are finding different ways to help Hurricane Harvey victims - like beer company Anheuser-Busch, which announced it's using its breweries to can water. And, of course, there are the real Texan heroes who are saving people from their flooded homes or cars. Two of those heroes include Jevauhnte Barnaba and Alan Little, who spent Aug. 28 rescuing people around the Baytown, Channelview, Highlands, and Crosby areas in Texas. In a Facebook post, Barnaba called out Little for being "the definition of humanity" for doing everything he could to help.

In Barnaba's Aug. 29 post, he explains how he saw a Facebook post from Little, who was offering his services to help out. Barnaba asked to join him in his efforts, and together they helped rescue more than a dozen people. According to Barnaba, Little is part of the US Marine Corps, so "serving his people is nothing new for him." Barnaba ends his post by writing, "I am very proud to say I have had the pleaser [sic] of making not a friend but a brother." You can read the whole Facebook post above.

Barnaba and Little are just two examples of people across Texas (and the country) who are doing everything they can to help one anotheer out. As Texas continues to reel from the flooding and damage left in Hurricane Harvey's aftermath, Barnaba and Little are two people who everyone can learn from.

11 Personality Traits Every ESTJ Knows to Be True

The first time I took the Myers Briggs personality test to really explore what makes a Hedy, it told me I was an extrovert. As someone who considers myself to be shy and generally quiet, I thought there was no way it was possibly right and I had somehow messed up the test because I didn't read the questions thoroughly enough. I walked away from the test for a couple weeks to get it out of my head before trying again, and again I got an extrovert personality type. ESTJ, to be specific. I read more information on this type to see how far off base it was for me and was blown away by how scarily accurate it actually was. While yes, I can be shy in certain situations, I tried to answer the questions as how I view things in my most common situations, and that's when I realized I actually am quite extroverted these days. My mom claims it's my old age and that I take after her.

The letters of ESTJ stand for extrovert, sensing, thinking, and judging, but my results were borderline ENTJ as well, which is intuition rather than sensing. ESTJs are one of the more popular personality types, with about eight to 12 percent of the global population falling into that category. They are an outgoing bunch of people with strong opinions and little desire to deal with emotions. They value tradition and order, among other things. If you've answered all the Myers Briggs questions and found yourself to be an ESTJ, the following traits, from my personal experience and 16Personalities' expertise, should ring true for you.

  1. You always stand behind your opinions: ESTJs will defend their thoughts in any situation because they have a firm belief in them. They're dedicated to getting their point across, and even if someone disagrees, they'll stick to their guns.
  2. You speak your mind: An ESTJ doesn't really like to beat around the bush about things, so you're highly likely to tell someone the straight-up truth, though not necessarily in a harsh or blunt manner. You just value people being straightforward.
  3. Your friends and family consider you very reliable: You are probably loyal to a fault and can be counted on in all situations. Being held accountable is important to you, and you take your responsibility very seriously.
  4. You're very organized: For me, I'm organized though far from a minimalist. While ESTJs don't enjoy chaos, they also don't lean toward minimalism, but everything in their lives is in good order. This doesn't only apply to things, though. You like your life in general to have order and are excellent at keeping it that way.
  5. You might be a wee bit stubborn: When I read this to my mom, she laughed because she knows how stubborn I can be. Just like how we stand behind our opinions, we can be pretty stubborn about them because we're so unwilling to change our minds.
  6. You care a lot about what others think of you: I like to say that people's opinions of me don't matter, but it's wholly untrue. I place way too much value on what my Twitter followers think of me and spend a lot of time trying to get more of them to fall in love with me. I also claim I don't care what people around me think of what I do, say, or wear, but I most definitely do.
  7. You struggle with emotions: I have said numerous times that I'm allergic to emotions. ESTJs find it difficult to express emotions in most situations and often focus so much on facts that they can't see how facts actually affect people.
  8. You might be high-strung: ESTJs have a hard time relaxing. Some of that comes from valuing organization and respect, which means you sometimes struggle with being anything less than completely on your game.
  9. You take relationships very seriously: When it comes to romantic relationships, ESTJs are willing to put in the effort to ensure a strong, committed relationship. And while we aren't very spontaneous people, we do enjoy a good time, and that extends to our romantic relationships.
  10. You're a great leader: ESTJs are also known as "the executives" because all of your personality traits add up to someone who excels at being a leader. You're organized, reliable, and honest, which are common things needed in someone who is in charge.
  11. You have a busy social calendar: You probably like to be pretty active and have the busy life to show for it. Most likely, you have a solid core group of friends, but an ESTJ should be careful to mix it up a little when it comes to the people they're around. You may have a lot of social events, but it's probably mostly with the same people because you gravitate toward those who share your opinions. Natural, right? It is, but because ESTJs can be so strong-willed about what they believe, they tend to not welcome anyone they consider an "outsider," which is something to be aware of.

Wedding Bells: All the Celebrity Couples Who've Said "I Do" This Year

We're still not done obsessing over all of the beautiful celebrity weddings from 2016, but so many other couples have tied the knot this year. Tyrese surprised us all when he announced that he and Samantha Lee secretly wed on Valentine's Day in a now-deleted Instagram video, as did Thomas Sadoski, who revealed he and Amanda Seyfried said their "I dos" in a private ceremony on March 12. And can we just talk about how gorgeous Pippa Middleton's nuptials were? Keep reading to see all the stars who made the trek down the aisle this year.

Evan Peters Is Playing 3 Notorious Cult Leaders on AHS, and We Are Terrified

Since the season seven premiere of American Horror Story is just days away, your nightmares have probably been consumed with images from the new theme: Cult. The official trailer confirms the season deals with the aftermath of the 2016 presidential election, with Sarah Paulson's character, Ally Mayfair, spiraling out of control and Evan Peters's character, Kai Anderson, rising in triumph (the Trump similarity to that word isn't lost on me). In addition to Kai being a cult leader on his own, Peters will also reportedly take on the roles of three other notorious cult leaders in history - Charles Manson, David Koresh, and Jim Jones - as well as one iconic figure who had a large following, Andy Warhol.

The show's creator and executive producer, Ryan Murphy, confirmed that Peters will play these other characters in flashbacks, but we won't see them until at least the fourth episode. Keep reading to dive a little deeper into their terrifying true stories before AHS returns on Tuesday.

Omar Epps Was Unfairly Sexy in the '90s, and You Better Believe He's Still Got It

Where does one even begin when talking about Omar Epps? The actor, most notable for his roles in movies like Love & Basketball and TV shows like House, was a major heartthrob back in the day, and his sexiness is still very much a thing. The 44-year-old was everywhere in the '90s (think Juice, Scream 2, Higher Learning, and so on), and our childhood crush has thankfully carried over into adulthood. While nothing will ever quite compare to his role as Quincy McCall in Love & Basketball (seriously, that movie . . . don't get me started because I will never stop), Omar has continued to act (and steal our hearts) over the years. Keep reading for some of his sexiest moments, but be warned: your love will probably plunge into new, unknown dEPPS (OK, bye).

George Clooney Gushes Over Twins and Reveals Why He Gave Them "Normal" Names

George and Amal Clooney welcomed twins Alexander and Ella back in June, and now we're learning a lot more about them. The proud dad recently opened up about their personalities during a sit-down interview with Entertainment Tonight for his latest project, Suburbicon. "[Alexander] is a thug already," George declared. "He's a moose! Literally, he just sits and he eats." As for Ella? George admits she's the total opposite of her twin brother. "She's very elegant, and all eyes," he gushed. "She looks like Amal, thank god."

George also revealed why he and Amal chose "normal" names for their kids - although there was that one time he joked about naming the twins after his tequila brand. "[We] didn't want to have really dumb names," he said. "We figured these kids are going to be looked at a lot and watched and [have their] every move sort of judged, and we wanted them to at least have a break with the names."

This isn't the first time the 56-year-old doting dad has opened up about fatherhood. George admitted to being on diaper duty and getting puked on frequently during an interview with the Associated Press. Sounds like George and Amal have their hands full with their two new bundles of joy!

How to Navigate the Awkward "New Person" Phase at a New Job

After having an awesome first day at your new job, you might experience a bit of belonging uncertainty in the new office for a while. Making small talk in the break room, figuring out where the supplies are stored, accidentally locking eyes all day with the person whose desk faces yours - there's a lot of awkwardness involved in that initial "new person" phase. According to SoFi career strategist Rachel Kim, the following are some key ways you can take the awkwardness by the horns during this weird transitional period.

Master the art of small talk.

The first few months of a new job can feel like one long trip back to the high school cafeteria. But remember, the company hired you because it wants you there! So keep that in mind and make an effort to be friendly; it will not only make your transition a lot easier but can also help build a foundation for future teamwork and opportunities. One approach is to casually chat up people in company common areas, even if it feels awkward at first. Getting to know people by asking probing but not personal questions like what teams they are on or what first brought them to the company can help you to connect with colleagues and more senior executives and can be a good way to forge friendships and alliances all around the company, which will serve you as you grow in your role there.

Be an active listener.

Take the first few days - and even weeks - to listen and ask questions. Be patient and observant vs. brash and loud. It takes time to fully understand the lay of the land, and forming an opinion before you've grasped all you need to can backfire. You'll know when the time is right to meet with team members to discuss your ideas. Once that happens, be open to their feedback, even if it's not all positive, because the ability to take constructive criticism is invaluable to career growth.

Start building relationships.

Relationships matter - a lot. A huge factor in people's general well-being and happiness is in having authentic connections with others. Meaning, you're able to be yourself, as well as provide support for others to be themselves. This definitely applies in the workplace. In those first few weeks in a new job, set yourself up for long-term satisfaction in your new role by developing at least one friendship as well as creating an internal network for yourself. Build time in your calendar to meet colleagues over coffee or lunch. Career success is directly correlated to having both a close intimate network (from a mentor, or close confidante at work, etc.) as well as a large broader network (for access to information and opportunities, etc.).

Aim for small wins.

Once you learn how and when to contribute, start adding value in bite-size pieces. Volunteer for projects to show that you're a team player. If you're a whiz at problem-solving and organization, offer your expertise the next time a teammate hits a bump in those areas. But be mindful of coming on too strong or taking on too much too soon. Being successful in the first 90 days is not just about doing great work and building relationships but also about developing the soft skills that will fuel your career growth in the long term.

Get Your Midday Sweat On: Reasons You Should Work Out During Your Lunch Break

It can feel hard enough to squeeze in a morning or evening workout on a normal day. You have a million things on your plate and there's usually some kind of excuse that hinders you from getting your sweat on. That's why you might benefit from fitting in a workout during your lunch break. It sounds impossible at first, especially when you think about the logistics of showering off and getting some food before you head back to the office, but it can definitely be done - and it's totally worth it.

We already know the many benefits of working out - better sleep cycle, more energy, and sharper brain function - so why can't we tap into these positive effects in the middle of the day? Here are a few reasons you should consider heading to the gym on your lunch break.

You'll Perform Better at Work

When you have endorphins coursing through your body, you think quicker and smarter, and you're better at problem solving. Sneak away for a quick workout during lunch and you'll probably come back to the office even more prepared than you were in the morning. Meetings will go by quicker and you might see a boost of creativity for that project you were working on.

You'll Have More Energy

If you choose the right kind of workout that won't leave you in a pile of exhaustion on the floor, exercising in the middle of the day can give you a boost of energy that will swiftly carry you through the rest of your day. You might be more inclined to cook a healthy dinner, go out with your friends, or run all those errands that you've been procrastinating on.

You'll Experience Less Chronic Pain

It's common to experience back or neck pain if you work in an office for eight hours a day. It's a great idea to take off for a workout during lunch because that movement will lubricate your joints and comfort your spine. Even better if you can make it to a yoga or Pilates class. Sitting back down at your desk won't be a problem at all.

You'll Probably Make Better Choices in Your Diet For the Rest of the Day

Studies show that working out can positively affect the hormones that regulate your hunger, which means you're more likely to only want food when your body really needs it. This sets you up to make good choices in your diet for the rest of the day, whether it's a healthy afternoon snack or a home-cooked dinner.

You Won't Have to Go in the Evening

Last but not least, if you go to the gym midday, you won't have to go later on, which frees up time to do whatever it is you love most. You could take a photography class, invite your friends over for dinner, or just catch up on your latest Netflix shows. It's all about striking a healthy balance between work, fitness, and our personal life.

Michelle Obama Addresses the Melania Trump Gift Meme

One of the most talked about moments on Inauguration Day was a seemingly awkward moment between Michelle Obama and Melania Trump. But, according to Obama, the moment was more about trying to hold back her emotions than anything else.

In case you forgot, on Inauguration Day, when the new first lady and president of the United States arrived at the White House, Trump greeted Obama and handed her a gift. The moment was captured by ABC News and showed Obama's puzzled face as she wondered where to put the gift. The internet was quick to say Obama's face was a reaction to the incoming Trump presidency. But at the American Institute of Architects conference on April 27, Obama revealed what her actual emotions were. The former first lady said she was beginning to realize these were her last moments in the White House - a not-so-easy moment, especially for her daughters, who grew up there.

"So that moment of transition, right before the doors opened and we welcomed in the new family, our kids were leaving out the back door in tears, saying goodbye to people," she said at the event. Obama said she didn't want to have tears in her eyes to avoid any backlash. "I didn't want to have tears in my eyes because people would swear I was crying because of the new president," she said, according to Today.

At the conference, Obama told the audience that Sasha and Malia's last night at the White House involved a slumber party with friends. "They had a sleepover, because of course on Inauguration Day, because my girls are so normal, they're like, 'Well, eight girls are gonna be sleeping here because it's our last time, and we want pizza and we want nuggets.' And it's like, really?"

This was Obama's first public speaking appearance since Inauguration Day, and we're glad to see her back in the spotlight.

Can You Be Too Fit to Be Fertile? One Fitness Instructor’s Story of Discovery and Healing

Ashley Pitt is a Bay-Area based group fitness instructor, personal trainer, and the writer of A Lady Goes West healthy lifestyle blog and her first ebook, "Fit and Fertile."

I'd always been told I was superfit and healthy. And that's because I was lean, I exercised a ton, taught group fitness classes, and loved to eat clean. However, a couple of years ago, I found out that even though I appeared to be very healthy on the outside, something wasn't quite right on the inside. It was my hormones. And ultimately, my fertility.

I was, in fact, too fit to be fertile, and as I started to uncover what was going on with my body, I discovered that my condition, called hypothalamic amenorrhea, is a problem that's a lot more common among woman in the fitness industry than we'd like to think. But nobody is talking about it, and it's not very easy to find answers. Here's my story.

Just about two years ago, my hubby and I decided we were ready to start a family. At that time, I was working as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer living in San Francisco and doing multiple workouts a day and walking miles upon miles to get from gym to gym. I was also eating really clean, focusing on salads, smoothies, sushi, and small portioned-out meal-prepped tupperwares - the epitome of prepared.

I had good muscle tone, I felt fine and from the outside, was the model of good health. However, when I decided to stop taking my hormonal birth control pills, which I had been on for years and which had kept my cycle regular, I was shocked and confused to find that my period never reappeared on its own.

Over the course of a year, I went to multiple doctors and specialists and finally got the diagnosis of hypothalamic amenorrhea - a condition in which the brain tells the body to stop having a period because the environment is too dangerous to reproduce. This can be caused by too much exercise, too much stress, or too little food. Mine was most definitely based on the overexercising element, with low body fat from being really lean, too. Basically, my insides had shut down, because I was expending so much energy on tough workouts day in and day out.

I took to the internet to find help, and I came up short. My own doctor didn't know what to do and told me I had no chance of getting pregnant naturally. And every blogger's tale or website I read said to eat a bunch of junk to gain weight and quit exercising altogether, which would mean I would have to leave the fitness industry entirely. But I knew that wasn't the path for me, so I paved my own way, and I was able to get my period back and ultimately get pregnant by making a few lifestyle changes. Here's what I did.

Reduced my high-intensity workouts by half.

I knew I wasn't going to stop working out entirely, especially because fitness was my job and passion, so I slowly reduced my high-intensity workouts by half. I did all the barre, yoga, walking, and light weightlifting that I wanted (no more than one workout a day), but I never did HIIT or tougher one-hour classes (like Orangetheory Fitness, where I was a coach at the time, or Les Mills BODYPUMP) more than twice a week. I also took one to two full rest days each week.

Increased my body fat and my dietary fat intake.

I had been eating very healthy, however, I discovered that much of the time, my meals were missing dietary fat. I added at least one full avocado a day to my diet, whole eggs (all the yolks), veggies coated in coconut oil, lots of nut butter, salmon, and even weekly dinners of grass-fed organic steak. I also upped my overall intake of food each day by eating a few more healthy snacks and supporting an overall weight gain. In the process, I gained a few percentage points of body fat, but I did it with healthy food.

Became a believer in Eastern Medicine.

At first, I was totally skeptical of acupuncture, but I finally made an appointment a few months into my struggles, and I've never looked back. My acupuncturist was able to address my body's physical and even mental stress by using special points to heal my liver system and reproductive hormones. She also created special herbal supplements for me and advised me on other supplements to take to improve my fertility.

Over the course of a year of keeping up with these lifestyle changes, my natural period came back to me. And even though sometimes I got down about missing tough workouts and growing out of my size 0 workout capris, I knew that it was worth the effort. In fact, during the next year after beating hypothalamic amenorrhea, I was able to naturally conceive, having taken so much care to prepare and heal my body the right way.

All the while, I continued to teach a few group fitness classes a week and write about fitness on my healthy lifestyle blog, "A Lady Goes West," ultimately keeping my place in the industry.

My story is unique, because I didn't have to give up fitness to get better. I just had to make enough lifestyle changes to put my body on the road to recovery - and in the process, I learned an entirely new, hormonally healthy way to live, which I'll maintain moving forward, especially after welcoming my first baby boy later this year.

To all the superfit ladies out there, no matter what you do, make sure you monitor your cycle to know that it's coming regularly of its own accord and not just induced by hormonal birth control. And be careful not to overdo it on your workouts, because you just may be messing with your insides. Because, yes, you can be too fit to be fertile.

Why Is Everyone Sleeping on Demi Lovato's Incredible New Single?

On Aug. 24, Demi Lovato released her newest single, "Tell Me You Love Me." The anthemic song is a follow-up to her previous party song, "Sorry Not Sorry." I'm explaining all of this because it's come to my attention that the 25-year-old singer's banger has gone severely unnoticed and I'd like to correct this injustice.

Let's start by making it clear that pity is not warranted here. Demi's music releases are continually successful. Her last album, Confident, was nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album. What's more, her ubiquitous single "Cool For the Summer" peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and received double platinum certification. (Yeah, there's a reason you just got that damn song out of your head.) It's likely that her sixth studio album - also titled Tell Me You Love Me - will follow suit when it becomes available in late September.

Though I wasn't crazy about "Sorry Not Sorry," the impending album's opening track, "Tell Me You Love Me," is an excellent single. Demi's vocals are full, powerful, and just unequivocally her. The lyrics are vulnerable and plead for help. The chorus begs, "Oh, tell me you love me / I need someone on days like this, I do," adding, "You ain't nobody till you got somebody." The music is catchy, too, described as "a swelling ballad full of horns and handclaps" by Rolling Stone.

Despite its merits, the song has not received the same industry and consumer attention. It has not yet charted on the Billboard Hot 100, although "Sorry Not Sorry" currently stands at No. 18. It also hasn't made it on Spotify's United States Top 50 playlist. It's also worth noting that Demi seems to be promoting "Sorry Not Sorry" more aggressively at the moment anyway. She even performed it at the recent MTV Video Music Awards.

But why is everyone sleeping on "Tell Me You Love Me"? Bad timing might have had an effect. See, Demi's single was released the very same day as Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do." The comeback song is Taylor's first since 1989 was released three years ago. What's more, it's petty as hell and steeped in an eight-year-long feud that began at the 2009 Video Music Awards when - well, you know the story by now.

Unfortunately, it seems as though Demi's single may have been eclipsed by one with a louder and more dramatic headline - which, fair. I'd be lying if I said I didn't wholeheartedly engage in the chatter surrounding "Look What You Made Me Do." What I'm also not saying is that we must pit these two artists against each other simply for releasing music on the same day. There's no place for that argument anywhere. It ultimately comes down to the fact that both artists released completely different songs and one is garnering more attention for obvious reasons.

It'll be really funny if "Tell Me You Love Me" suddenly becomes a massive hit and this theorizing would have all been for nothing. Honestly, I hope that happens! If it doesn't, though, I'll continue listening and thinking about what could have been.

9 Wise Homemaking Lessons I Learned From Grandma

My grandmother had many rules when it came to her home. When I was younger, I didn't always understand why things had to be just so. But now that I have my own apartment, I see the wisdom of her ways. Keeping a home in the era after World War II, my grandmother had a time-appropriate sense of taking good care of her possessions, not investing in junk, and buying only what she could afford.

There was so much wisdom in her approach. And now I know that the lessons I learned from her will stand the test of time.

Jim Mattis's "Freeze" on the Transgender Military Ban Isn't as Dramatic as You Think

On Tuesday, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis officially responded to President Donald Trump's memo about the transgender military ban. The current policy, which allows transgender individuals to openly serve, will remain intact pending the results of an important study that Mattis ordered in June, just hours before the Pentagon was set to allow transgender recruits to join the military.

The study would determine the effect of recruiting new transgender individuals and whether it would have a negative impact on the Pentagon's ability to fight and win wars. In an official statement, Mattis explained how the study would impact his decisions going forward. "Once the panel reports its recommendations and following my consultation with the secretary of Homeland Security," he said, "I will provide my advice to the president concerning implementation of his policy direction. In the interim, current policy with respect to currently serving members will remain in place."

This study is not new to the military. In fact, a similar study was conducted before the Pentagon lifted the original ban on transgender service members under the Obama administration. Before doing so, Secretary of Defense Ash Carter conducted a study very much like Mattis's. The difference was, instead of determining the impact recruited troops would have on military readiness, Carter wanted to study the impact current active transgender soldiers would have on the battlefield.

In his official speech announcing the lift of the ban, Carter shared his results. According to RAND, the official research organization for the United States Armed Forced, there would be "minimal readiness impacts from allowing transgender service members to serve openly." In addition to a low impact on duty and deployability, RAND also determined that the medical costs to treat transgender individuals would be "an exceedingly small proportion" of overall expenditures.

As Carter noted in his speech, it's a very large monetary investment to train new soldiers. That's one reason it benefits the military to keep transgender individuals who have gone through full military training and are already serving in the US Armed Forces. And that's why Mattis ordered his study: to determine if new transgender recruits are worth that investment.

In the end, the decision made by Mattis will bide the Pentagon's time, but it's not a direct attack or figurative middle finger to President Trump. Mattis simply will not adopt a policy that detracts from military readiness, and in terms of hard facts and research, the jury is still out. As it currently stands, the lawsuits filed by transgender service members and the ACLU's separate decision to sue are still active. Mattis may just be stalling the inevitable.

10 Healthy Breakfasts With (at Least!) 15 Grams of Protein

Eating breakfast - and definitely not skipping it - is essential for revving up your metabolism if you've got weight loss on the mind. What you eat is also important, and no, a breakfast full of carbs like a bowl of cereal or a bagel isn't the best choice. Getting enough protein is key, and nutritionists Stephanie Clarke, RD, and Willow Jarosh, RD, of C&J Nutrition recommend getting 13 to 20 grams. While Greek yogurt is an easy and popular option, if you're avoiding dairy, try these recipes.

When It Comes to Weight Loss, These 9 Chickpea Recipes Are Here to Help

If You're Eating Protein to Lose Weight, This Is How Much You Need Per Meal

Experts are pushing the protein when it comes to weight loss, and for good reason, because it regulates your appetite and satiates hunger. But if loading up on tons of protein is your main focus at mealtimes, you might be getting more than you need.

Certified dietitian Leslie Langevin, MS, RD, CD, of Whole Health Nutrition says to aim for "no more than 20 to 30 grams of protein at each meal." This is in line with the CDC's recommendation for women ages 19 to 70 to get an average of 46 grams of protein per day. But since everyone's weight and activity level matter, this handy chart should help you determine exactly how much protein you need in a day.

So why only 20 to 30 grams at each meal? If you've heard that eating more protein is better for weight loss, it's true, but Leslie says, "The body can only absorb 20 to 30 grams at one time. Eating this amount of protein is a good target per meal because that will help with satiety and be the max your body can absorb at the meal for muscle repair." This leaves room for the other nutrients your body needs. For the perfect weight-loss meal, you always want to combine your protein with carbs for sustained energy and both fiber and healthy fats to keep you feeling fuller longer.

So there's no need to eat scrambled eggs with your morning protein smoothie. And Leslie says you definitely don't want to focus on just animal protein. Plant-based protein like legumes, leafy greens, whole grains, nuts, and soy products offer fiber and are necessary for everyone to "help reduce heart disease, cancer, and can help with weight control."

Here's How to Feel Energized - Not Destroyed - When You Work Out

You're not going to have perfect energy levels during every workout, but there are some things you can do to give yourself an advantage. If you've ever left a workout feeling absolutely destroyed, wondering where those endorphins were hiding, then this one's for you.

Stay Hydrated

Crunch Fitness Group Fitness Director Michelle Opperman told POPSUGAR the "absolute number one rule" for having energy is "being hydrated." Make sure you're drinking enough water before you start your workout, during your workout, and after your workout. Dehydration can cause feelings of fatigue, faintness, and dizziness.

Don't Overexercise

You don't have to work out for hours to get results - you can keep it short and sweet! "I think most believe the longer their workout, the better," said Opperman. "But it's really about working out smart and having a plan going in." She recommended HIIT - high intensity interval training - "which is a mix of higher and lower intensities," she said. "I go all out for short bursts, keeping my heart rate up, which means I can work out for less time." This, in turn, leads to feeling energized, not exhausted.

Rise and Shine

Try working out in the morning, if your schedule permits. You may not feel as tired from the workday, and you may feel more of a boost by using exercise to wake yourself up.

Drink Some Coffee

Not only does caffeine help you burn more calories during exercise, but it'll give you a supercharged energy boost, too. Try adding some coffee to your pre-workout smoothie, and you'll have an uplifting breakfast that'll help you power through your sweat session.

Have Fun

Our favorite tip! Having fun is essential to fitness success, and Opperman agrees. "I think it is important to enjoy your workouts," she said. "The beauty of fitness now is there is so much to choose from," and it's true: there are a million different types of classes and workouts! "I believe if you love the class or type of workout you are doing, you will feel more energized during and after . . . and more likely to continue."

Rest and Recover

Recovery and proper body care are paramount to maintaining energy not just during your workout, but also throughout the week. Opperman emphasized how a rest day each week is imperative to prevent burnout. Cut yourself some slack! Trainer and wellness coach Caroline Jordan told POPSUGAR, "Listen to your body; respect it and rest. Go with the flow of what your body needs each day so that you can progress." She mentioned that you don't always have to "stick to a rigid plan because you feel you have to."

In addition to rest days, foam rolling - before the workout! - can also help. "When I take the time to foam roll before a workout, it promotes circulation and relieves tension in the muscles," said Opperman. "This allows me to move more efficiently and not waste energy."

We Didn't Need This "LWYMMD" and "Toxic" Mashup, but We're Loving It Anyway

Remember when Britney Spears said she'd never met Taylor Swift even though there was photo evidence of her meeting Taylor? That was funny. Anyway, this mashup of Britney's 2004 hit "Toxic" with Taylor's new headline-making single "Look What You Made Me Do" was definitely not something we asked for, but it actually sounds pretty sick. Yes, I Studied Abroad on a Floating Campus

Four months, 13 countries, hundreds of students, and a seemingly endless piggy bank of stories. That was my study abroad experience. In the spring of 2015, I disembarked from the MV Explorer - a renovated cruise ship turned college campus - after going around the world and back, exploring Hawaii, Japan, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, Myanmar (Burma), India, Mauritius, South Africa, Namibia, Morocco, and England. The "Around the World" voyage was as mind-expanding as it was unconventional, and it goes by the name of Semester at Sea.

Change was constant. Adapt, accept, and then do it all over again.

Imagine attending class in the middle of the ocean, waking up in a new country week after week, disconnecting and tuning into what is right in front of you, connecting with the beauty of the experience that you are living, getting to know the people that will become lifelong travel companions and motivators . . . . The ability to unplug will result in an abundance of made-up games, exchanging of photos, music, stories, and conversations that will wander through your thoughts for years to come. You study relevant coursework and apply it to your experiences in port. You pay back debt with yen, dong, and dirhams. You take a meditation class, do yoga with nothing but blue sky and sea as your backdrop, and spend free time poolside with a smoothie in hand and star-filled nights with friends tackling all of the things that set your soul on fire.

The feeling that I had each time the ship pulled into port remains unmatched. There was growing anticipation as each foreign land approached and I was reminded to expect the unexpected. Change was constant. Adapt, accept, and then do it all over again. Time slowed down and days of the week faded into distinguishing between right now or tomorrow. I got lost in Japan, walked along the Great Wall of China, spent sunrise at Angkor Wat, rode through the hills of Myanmar on the back of a motorcycle, met my rickshaw driver's family in India, bungee jumped in South Africa, and made a last-minute decision to skydive in the Namib Desert. A deep sense of accomplishment overtook me each time I returned to my floating home in one piece.

If you know someone who has experienced Semester at Sea, you probably know that we can never seem to keep quiet about it. There's something about being at sea and watching the hues of the ocean change day by day that seeps into your blood. We become undeniably in love with traveling. My days spent crossing oceans led to a relentless curiosity for distant places and cultures, and a newfound understanding that we are all unfathomably similar at our core. The trajectory of my life was altered because I chose to spend 112 days throwing myself gracefully into the unknown.

The Most Heartbreaking Thing About Chris Farley's Death Is Everyone Saw It Coming

Image Source: Getty / George Pimentel

The world lost something special when comedian and actor Chris Farley passed away in 1997 at the age of 33. In addition to being a huge part of Saturday Night Live's golden years in the '90s, Chris also starred in classic movies like Tommy Boy and Black Sheep. But as bright of a light as he was for other people, Chris battled dark demons in his personal life, including drug and alcohol addiction. A few months before his death, Chris, who had gone to rehab 17 times to try to kick his bad habits, relapsed. "I want to live fast and die young," he told one of his friends. And to the heartbreak of his many fans, that's exactly what happened.

On Dec. 18, 1997, Chris was found dead in his Chicago apartment from an overdose of cocaine and morphine after drinking and using drugs for four days straight. The star, who had gone to a detox center for just one night a week before his death, had become extremely uncomfortable in his large frame (he was reportedly close to 300 pounds), and friends revealed that he frequently struggled with figuring out if his fans were laughing with him or at him. On Dec. 14, he began bar hopping all over Chicago, and he also kept the company of strippers and call girls during his final days alive.

In the 2015 documentary I Am Chris Farley, his college friend Pat Finn talked about Chris's many vices. "He did everything to excess," Pat said. "When it came to drinking and other stuff, he got caught in a world he couldn't get out of." And that world came crashing down on that fateful December day when Chris's brother John Farley found him lying in his apartment entryway in just his pajama bottoms.

Since his death, Chris's friends, including David Spade, Adam Sandler, and Dan Aykroyd, have all spoken out about the massive hole that's been left behind due to his absence. After participating in I Am Chris Farley, David revealed he can't bring himself to watch it yet. "You have to get yourself ready for that," he said. "To get through it . . . it'll probably be a little tough. I might watch it one day. I think it'll be good. I don't know if it's for me."

We Can't Deny How Effing on Point This "Generic Millennial Ad" Is

If you work for a brand seeking to add millennials to its target audience, it may seem like a daunting task. But fear not, because Dissolve has you covered - well, kind of. As a company that licenses stock footage for commercials and TV shows, Dissolve's latest project is a hilariously satirical video called "This Is a Generic Millennial Ad" which features - you guessed it - a boatload of cliche stock footage.

At the beginning of the video, the narrator mockingly declares, "You are unique. You are different. You are special." Meanwhile, clips of young adults doing various "millennial-like" activities are played in the background as the narrator continues to rattle off tidbits that sarcastically describe the generation. "You dance all the time - in the street, in your room, and definitely with your eclectic group of friends." Although some of the stock footage is wildly over-the-top (see: a girl at the bow of a boat wearing a virtual-reality headset), others are actually relatively on point in capturing the essence of millennials, whether we like to admit it or not (see: multiple clips of people photographing their food).

The video really speaks for itself, so go ahead and watch it above if you're in need of a good ol' chuckle.
