7 Characters Who Could Be American Horror Story: Cult's True Leader

The fourth episode of American Horror Story: Cult took viewers back to the days leading up to the 2016 election, and in the process, it shortened the list of suspects who could be the true cult leader. In "11/9," we watch as Kai recruits Harrison, Meadow, Gary, and Beverly to his cause, so that means they're all followers, not leaders. The episode goes out of its way to make us believe in the Cult of Kai, but there's still some doubt surrounding the idea that he is the mastermind behind this chaos-centric grab for power. AHS loves its twists, so there's no way this season is going to be straightforward. The real AHS: Cult leader could be hiding in the plain sight while Kai acts as their charismatic proxy.

We've rounded up a list of seven characters who could be leading this season's creepy clown cult.

Outlander: A Quick Refresher For Anyone Confused About the "White Witch"

Spoilers for the latest episode of Outlander below!

The "Droughtlander" we endured in anticipation of Outlander's third season might be over, but it doesn't mean we're not still waiting on something. Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) are both alive and well, but living in very different timelines now that Claire's returned to the 1960s through the stones at Craigh na Dun. A reunion between the time-crossed lovers is likely still a while off, but in the third episode, "All Debts Paid," there is a quick, subtle nod to the earlier days of their relationship.

Jamie, having been locked up in Ardsmuir prison after concocting a plot with his sister, comes to the attention of the prison's new governor, Lord John Grey, whom he shares a great deal of history with. When some of the British guards at the prison stumble across a sick traveler mumbling about gold in French nearby, they bring him back to Ardsmuir in hopes that someone will be able to translate for them. Grey forces Jamie to do so against his will, and our imprisoned hero then hears the traveler mention the name "La Dame Blanche" (aka the White Witch) before he dies, as well as warnings like, "She seeks a brave man," and "she'll come for you!"

La Dame Blanche is, of course, one of the names Claire picks up during their time in France.
Jamie goes back to his cell to discuss the interaction with Murtagh (who's still very much alive, hooray!). As soon as he mentions the white witch, Murtagh's eyes light up, asking Jamie if he thinks "it's her." La Dame Blanche is, of course, one of the names Claire picks up during their time in France.

As you might recall, the bandits who attempted to rape Mary Hawkins in season two flee after laying eyes on Claire, who they fearfully address as La Dame Blanche. When Jamie asks her about it later, she says: "They mistook me for some mythical creature named La Dame Blanche. Fergus said it's some sorceress nonsense." Jamie then admits that he started a rumor that he was married to La Dame Blanche, a vengeful witch, as a way to avoid having to hook up with any of the women at the brothels Bonnie Prince Charlie dragged him to. Regardless of his good intentions, Claire isn't pleased.

Since we know that Claire is in her own timeline in Boston, the sick traveler Jamie meets at the prison could not have seen her. The legend of the white witch must have simply gotten bigger and bigger after she left. What it does do, however, is give us yet another scene of Jamie clearly in pain without his wife, proving that their love is eternal (not that we had any doubts). Here's hoping their reunion comes sooner than later, because we're not sure how much more we can take.

This Federal Judge Had a Brutal Rebuttal For Homophobic Business Owners

On Sept. 21, Chief US District Court Judge John Tunheim dismissed a discrimination case - and seized the opportunity to make an important point about hate. The case involved business owners Carl and Angel Larsen, who filed a lawsuit in December 2016 after a provision in Minnesota's Human Rights Act outlawed discrimination . . . essentially arguing for their right to discriminate. The Larsens, who hail from St. Cloud and run a videography business, were challenging the provision so they could maintain the right to refuse wedding video services to same-sex couples. They argued that the law indicated "a state effort to stamp out expression opposing same-sex marriage."

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Judge Tunheim said in his ruling that the couple's conduct was "akin to a 'White Applicants Only' sign" and could be outlawed without infringing on First Amendment rights. "Posting language on a website telling potential customers that a business will discriminate based on sexual orientation is part of the act of sexual orientation discrimination itself," Tunheim stated. "As conduct carried out through language, this act is not protected by the First Amendment."

While the couple reportedly plans to appeal the ruling, it's still a pretty remarkable shut-down by a federal judge. It just goes to show that, even though Donald Trump is nominating transphobic men who call transgender children a part of "Satan's plan," there are still government officials working to protect the rights of all Americans. And that includes individuals in the LGBTQ+ community. What's more, this decision may be a good omen when it comes to another court case involving a high-profile wedding business that refuses to serve same-sex couples. This Fall, the Supreme Court will hear the case of baker Jack Phillips, a Colorado cake baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a gay couple because their sexuality "opposed his beliefs."

Warning: This Workout Will Wake Up Muscles You Didn't Know Existed

If you love a challenge and are always looking for new ways to work out, you're going to be a huge fan of AMRAP workouts. AMRAPs, short for "as many reps as possible," are timed workouts where you race against the clock to get in as many reps of a set of exercises as possible.

"When doing AMRAPs, you get to go at your own pace and really focus on technique, which allows more control over every movement," said Austin Lopez, CSCS and founder of Ausome Fit. "Because of this, you're often doing better work than you might in a high-intensity workout, where form is often sacrificed for speed." But, as you do build up your technique and form, you can challenge yourself to increase the total number of reps you complete in each round and will find yourself totally out of breath as you would during any intense HIIT session.

Ready to give it a go? Lopez grouped these moves together - jump squats, push-ups, and burpees - because they work the entire body, which helps you maximize every second spent in the workout.

The Workout

Perform each move for 30 seconds, completing as many reps as possible. After completing the third and final move in the circuit, rest for 45 seconds before beginning again. Run through the circuit a total of four times.

The 7 Exercises Everyone Should Know

As a fitness editor, I have done my fair share of workouts. Videos, classes, personal training - you name it, I've probably done it. In all of the workouts I have done, the same seven exercises appear again and again, and for good reason. Not only do these moves tend to form the foundation of more challenging variations, but they are also incredibly functional and work major muscle groups of the body.

If you're new to fitness or are just looking for a refresher, it's a good idea to get acquainted with the following exercises. Doing so will help give you the foundation to excel at more complicated moves, while also providing you the health benefits from focusing on exercises that are truly useful in everyday life. Best of all? You won't need a single piece of equipment to do a single one.

This Halloween, Dress Up as a Parent's Worst Nightmare: The Fidget Spinner

Like it or not, the fidget spinner was everywhere this year. Though its exact origins are still up for debate, the anti-anxiety gadget became especially popular in the Spring. Seemingly overnight, fidget spinners were suddenly everywhere - at schools, in workplaces, and on your commute. Shortly thereafter, schools began banning the toys, as they were distracting students. If you're up to the challenge, supersize the fidget spinner to dress up as the year's most ubiquitous toy for Halloween.

How to Create It Yourself

Want to blissfully spin your way through Halloween? Here's what you'll need for your fidget spinner costume:

  • A cardboard box
  • Foam boards
  • Your paint color of choice
  • A paintbrush
  • Glue
  • Cotton string
  • Scissors

Prepare to get a little crafty with this costume. To start, you're going to want to trace the fidget spinner shape onto two sizable pieces of cardboard. Once you're satisfied with your shape, cut out the shapes using scissors or a box cutter. On two foam boards, trace and cut out a smaller circle that will act as the center cap. Glue each center cap onto a fidget spinner cutout. Paint the cutouts with your color of choice.

On either side of the fidget spinner, poke out a small hole using scissors or a hole punch, and weave your cotton string through the holes. Repeat on the second cutout and tie the strings together in the middle. You should be left with a sandwich board so that the front and back of the fidget spinner hang from your shoulders. Bonus points awarded to anyone who walks around with actual fidget spinners while wearing their fidget spinner costume. Dare us to say fidget spinner one more time? Fidget spinner!

Dear Fellow Breastfeeding Mother Who Just Doesn't Get It, Why We Don't Need to Cover Up

An article we previously posted sparked significant discussion about covering up while breastfeeding. The post inspired Melanie Hearse, a freelance parenting and lifestyle writer based in Perth, Western Australia, to write a response supporting women who choose to not cover up.

Dear Fellow Breastfeeding Mother Who Just Doesn't Get It,

For starters, I appreciate your honesty - and you're right, you clearly don't get it. I am not someone to "flash my parts" around - when I saw the birthing video prelabour, I wasn't horrified I was going to pass a watermelon through my vagina; I was horrified she was naked. I nudged my husband and looked for reassurance that nudity was optional (of course, when the time came, I didn't care if I was starkers and there was a cast of twelve hundred in there - as you no doubt know, priorities can change in a heartbeat when it comes to all things parenting.)

But fast forward to me as a new and breastfeeding mum, I frequently flashed my nipples. Sorry, but I was really sh*t at using a cover - and I probably showed more boob when I tried to simultaneously wrestle a blanket and a kid, or shove his head under my jumper while pulling down my bra. I wasn't stoked about it, but I assure you I wasn't licking my lips and winking at your preschooler, your husband, or your sister while I did it. It was pretty obvious I was feeding my child, not putting on a peep show.

So yes, to answer your question, for some of us, despite our best efforts, it really IS that hard.

Secondly, I tried breastfeeding in private places. But smelly toilets and hot cars didn't work for me. And while I realize you didn't suggest I use them, to follow the gist of your letter, if I can't feed my kids without flashing nipple, I'm teasing the universe with my sex parts and may as well just saucily drop trou and shake my vagina in my fellow diners' faces. I feel there is a middle road - I call it the "Don't Look" Revolutionary.

Even kids work this out - as a kid, I remember shyly peeking at a glimpse of a breastfeeding woman's breast. I've seen kids glance and look away when I've been feeding and my kids doing the same to others. It's curiosity, and it's totally normal and nothing sinister is going on. It's not a fast track to changing their name to Crystal Chandelier or preteen pregnancy.

Thirdly, and while I am not one of the confident folk who just feed without a cover because they don't want to use one (as you said yourself, kids over 6 months generally prefer not to have a blanket or t-shirt over their head while they feed), I still don't get the problem. It's not like they are sitting there topless the whole time just in case junior wants to snuggle in for a feed - they feed their baby and put the ladies away. Hardly a case for "well you may as well take your vagina for a waltz around the room," surely?

As for the 1950s and stigma - this letter serves to illustrate we are still in the dark ages if a fellow breastfeeder still thinks we should be scandalized by a breastfeeding nipple. Seriously, I am one of the least comfortable people with other people's nudity, and not once - including as a young kid - has a breastfeeding nipple ever registered as "sexy" or offended me. Yeah, it's made me feel shy from time to time, but honestly, that's my hangup and I own it, not expect mums to cover up, feel they are doing something wrong, or stop a kid from getting a comfy lunch in order to save me three seconds of embarrassment (after which I could have turned away or stuck a blanket over my own head to finish my lunch if I am so offended or unable to look away).

Sincerely,
Former Breastfeeding Mum Who Doesn't Get Why You Don't Get It

Michelle Obama on the Women Who Voted For Trump: They "Voted Against Their Own Voice"

Since the 2016 election, countless articles and books have tackled the same quandry: just how it is that women could vote for President Donald Trump. On Sept. 27, former first lady Michelle Obama came up with an answer to that very question. Speaking at marketing conference Inbound, she said "Any woman who voted against Hillary Clinton, voted against their own voice." Obama went on to explain that women casting their vote for Trump said a whole lot more about the women themselves than about Clinton.

"It doesn't say as much about Hillary, and everybody's trying to worry about what it means for Hillary and no, no, no, what does this mean for us, as women? That we look at those two candidates, as women, and many of us said, 'He's better for me. His voice is more true to me,'" Obama said, adding, "To me that just says, you don't like your voice. You like the thing you're told to like."

The former first lady's comments were made during a question and answer panel with author Roxane Gay. While Obama was critical of those female Trump voters, she stated that her and former president Barack Obama are wishing Trump the best. "We've chosen to be supportive of this administration," Obama said. She also took time to once again remind people about the importance of the Affordable Care Act. "The Affordable Care Act isn't Barack's legacy. It's the country legacy," Obama said.

The former first lady also left the audience with a few tidbits of advice, speaking on how she's managed to get as far as she has in life. "If I was successful in any way, it's because I was always Michelle Robinson Obama first before anything else," Obama said. She encouraged everyone to use their voice, speak up, and stay true to who they are. "Take a moment to know yourself," Obama said. "Know your truth. Don't let what other people say define you." It's a lesson we should all remind ourselves of every day.

This Is How All Your Favorite Food Stars Cook Chicken Thighs

When you think about cooking with chicken, you probably gravitate toward boneless, skinless chicken breasts. But chicken thighs deserve more of your attention because they're so much more flavorful (dark meat FTW), even cheaper, and just as easy to cook as chicken breasts. Not sure where to start? These recipes from some of our favorite food personalities and celebrity chefs will inspire you to incorporate chicken thighs in your next home-cooked dinner.

Giada De Laurentiis: Classic Cacciatore

Giada's chicken cacciatore is a classic Italian dish of braised chicken and tomato sauce. Giada's recipe calls for both chicken thighs and breasts, but you could use all thighs for even more flavor. After simmering in the garlicky sauce for about 30 minutes, the chicken becomes so tender it practically falls off the bone.

Ree Drummond: Homemade Orange Chicken

Ditch the delivery fee for Ree Drummond's orange chicken, which is just as easy to make as it is to order from a takeout menu. With a homemade sauce free of preservatives and packed with orange juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, rice wine vinegar, chili flakes, and grated ginger, the bite-size chicken is as good as it gets. You can easily double the recipe and serve it with white rice for a restaurant-quality meal for the whole family.

Emeril: Lemon-Garlic Chicken Thighs With Pasta

Simple and flavorful is the name of the game in Emeril's lemon-garlic chicken thighs recipe. After lightly dredging the chicken thighs in flour and browning them in a pan, Emeril simmers them in a lemony sauce with a chicken broth base to ensure there's no dry chicken in sight. To make this Italian meal more complete, Emeril serves the chicken with angel hair pasta coated in the extra juices from the skillet.

Aarti Sequeira: Creamy Chicken Curry

Like Ree Drummond's recipe, Aarti Sequeira's creamy curry with chicken tikka masala is a takeout favorite you can easily cook for yourself. Boneless, skinless chicken thighs are just as accessible as boneless, skinless chicken breasts, and they make the dish even better. All you need for the perfect curry sauce is a handful of pantry and fridge staples like yogurt, garlic, tomato paste, paprika, and a few fresh ingredients to tie it all together.

Tyler Florence: Basic BBQ Chicken

Tyler Florence's ultimate barbecued chicken calls for the two best cuts of chicken, thighs and legs, and a brine guaranteed to saturate every inch of the meat (water, salt, sugar, garlic, and thyme). The best part of this recipe is you can marinate the chicken for two hours if you have the time, but 15 minutes will yield almost just as much flavor. If you don't want to grill outside, you can sear the chicken indoors on a grill pan, and you can have the summertime favorite all year-round.

Chrissy Teigen: Best-Ever Chipotle Chicken

One of Chrissy Teigen's cooking tips is to opt for dark meat over white meat every time because of the flavor. One of the recipes she makes the most from her cookbook, Cravings, is chipotle-honey chicken with mango-avocado salsa. On page 213 of her cookbook, Chrissy notes this is the first recipe to ever hit her blog! "This chicken is my pride and joy. My first born. My identical twin," she writes. If that doesn't give you reason enough to try it, maybe the chipotle-bourbon-garlic BBQ sauce will.

Save Your Sanity This Christmas With This Miraculous Tree That Puts Up Itself

It's a struggle that many of us face every year: putting up the Christmas tree. Whether you assemble a faux tree or cut down your own evergreen every year, putting up the tree is rarely easy. From getting it in the right position in your living room to making sure it's straight to positioning the bare patches in the back, it's never a one-person job.

Christmas trees are an essential part of the holiday season for many families, so getting it right is important. Anyone who has done battle with a Christmas tree is sure to appreciate a simpler option, especially if it's a Christmas tree that puts up itself!

The Emerson Grow & Stow Christmas Tree ($500) could be the answer to your Christmas tree woes. By simply plugging into an electrical outlet, the branches expand at the touch of a button. The tree's height is adjustable between six and nine feet, so whether you have a smaller space or a grand room, it's sure to fit. The base has wheels so it's easy to move around, and it has a foot pedal and remote control so you have complete control over where your tree goes and when it expands.

Unlike some fake Christmas trees, the Grow & Stow actually looks surprisingly real. It's bushy and full, and even the needles look realistic. It's also prelit with over 700 lights, which can be white or colorful depending on your decorating style. The prelit feature makes it so you don't have to worry about stringing your own lights or making sure the tree is evenly lit. Just add your favorite decorations and you're good to go.

Even worse than putting up a Christmas tree might be disassembling it after the holidays, but this one separates into just two parts and comes with a handy storage bag so you can tuck it away again in no time. Check out the video below to see how the tree springs to life!

Still Not Over Wonder Woman? Here's Everything You Need to Be Diana Prince For Halloween

The standalone Wonder Woman film revolutionized the model for big-budget superhero flicks. In addition to becoming one of the highest-grossing superhero films of all time, Wonder Woman also attracted a whole new crowd of fans who previously felt excluded by the genre. Portrayed by Gal Gadot, the film's titular character, also known as Diana Prince, has gone on to inspire many young girls and adult women. This Halloween, you can armor up with Wonder Woman's traditional uniform or re-create Diana's stunning blue gown - you know the scene - for a more unexpected option.

How to Create It Yourself

Want to channel your inner Amazonian warrior this Halloween? Here's what you'll need for battle:

Since Wonder Woman's armor is so recognizable, you really only need a few elements to pull it off. Pair a red top with a blue skirt, add lots of gold accessories, and complete your look with a sword and shield, of course.

To re-create Diana's undercover ensemble, here's what you'll need:

For Diana's gala ensemble, slip into a blue floor-length gown and tuck your toy sword into the back of the dress so that the handle is peeking out at the top. Then, simply sweep your hair up into a bun or similar updo to really accentuate the hidden sword element.

This 1 New Feature on iOS 11 Could Save Your Life

With the new iOS 11, you can edit screenshots, easily share WiFi passwords, and potentially save your life in the future - all with just a few quick taps. Previously, you could give yourself an extra layer of safety by setting up your medical ID or sharing your location on Find My Friends. Now, on iOS 11, you can push the sleep/wake button five times to immediately call emergency services. It also disables Touch ID and tells any emergency contacts your location and that something might be wrong.

The feature, called "Emergency SOS," will automatically call your local emergency service number. And though it disables Touch ID, any person who tries to use your Touch ID won't get a notification that it's because of "Emergency SOS." If you're worried about your purse accidentally calling emergency services, you can also choose to turn on a "Countdown Sound." It will make it so that if you accidentally set off this feature, your phone will play a loud sound and give you three seconds to stop it from calling emergency services.

While we usually understand putting off playing with new features, this is one that every single person should set up right now. In particular, women across the internet are trying to spread the word about the Emergency SOS, as it could help someone fend off an attacker. Others believe it could save your life if you're in a car accident or in another type of disaster. Ahead, learn how to quickly set it up and then encourage your friends to do the same.

Get Stronger With This 2-Weeks-to-50-Burpees Challenge

You have a lot of feelings about burpees. Hatred, fear, and disgust may come to mind, so we understand if you're not psyched about doing a burpee-only challenge. But this burpee workout is different! It involves five different variations and builds up over the course of two weeks so it's a fun way to challenge yourself while getting stronger. It takes only minutes each day, so you can tack it on before or after your other workouts. And by the end, you'll be able to do 50 burpees, which is something to be proud of.

If you're new to burpees, definitely feel free to sub in modifications. Do the push-up with both knees on the floor, or skip the push-up altogether. Also, instead of jumping the feet back and forward, just step them one at a time. And if the explosive jump at the end is too much, just skip it. The point is to keep moving, so as long as you're doing that, you're doing it right!

5 Reasons Sisters Make the Best Entrepreneurial Duos

Some of the most successful teams - from creative partners to business colleagues to teams on The Amazing Race - have been sibling teams, and it's easy to figure out why: siblings are naturally competitive, they can freely provide feedback, they quickly move on from arguments, and they're each other's biggest cheerleaders. They've been teammates - for better or worse - since the very beginning of their lives.

Take the sisterly duo behind the jewelry brand Dannijo, Danielle and Jodie Snyder. Growing up together in Jacksonville, FL, they "worked" together to teach themselves wirework using their cardiologist father's medical tools. Reconnecting in New York after college, the two picked up their old hobby again, creating a capsule jewelry collection for Danielle's nonprofit, Live With a Lifelong Ambition, and then they officially launched Dannijo in 2008. Today, the jewelry pieces are designed and manufactured in NYC, and the packaging is hand made in Rwanda as part of a women's empowerment partnership with Indego Africa.

The sisters-turned-business partners clearly have similar values and share a vision for their company - to the point where you might not be able to tell where the brand ends and their relationship begins. We asked Danielle to tell us why she thinks business partnerships between sisters tend to flourish, so keep reading for her insights on why this this unique bond lends itself to business success.

If Outlander Follows the Books, Things Are About to Get Seriously Insane

w

For anyone who didn't yet realize, Starz's drama Outlander is based on Diana Gabaldon's wildly popular book series. So far there are eight, but she is showing no signs of slowing down, which is good since each season of the TV series encapsulates one book. Season three is bringing the events of Voyager to life, which means book readers more or less know what's coming - like the highly anticipated print shop scene. However, if you haven't read the books and you'd like to be in the know about the major events yet to come in season three, we have a handy guide for you. Beware of major spoilers ahead for Voyager!

Jamie Has a Son

In the ensuing years living without Claire, Jamie's adventures take him to Helwater, an English estate where he works as a groom (a caretaker of horses) for the Dunsany family. This is the best Lord John Grey can do for him after Ardsmuir Prison closes, which is really not a bad deal for someone declared a traitor to the crown. At Helwater, Jamie is blackmailed into sleeping with Geneva, the eldest Dunsany daughter - she wants her first time to be with someone young and handsome, as she is betrothed to the eighth Earl of Ellesmere, a man old enough to be her grandfather.

It is from this time together that Geneva conceives a son. After she dies in childbirth and the Earl of Ellesmere is killed in a confrontation with Jamie, little William is raised by his maternal grandparents and then later by Geneva's sister, Isobel, and Lord John Grey, whom Isobel marries.

Jamie gets to spend many years with William, as he is still the groom at the estate, but when the resemblance between them begins to show, he and Lord John agree it is best if Jamie leaves. He is pardoned for his crimes and is allowed to return to Scotland. If the scene where Jamie says goodbye to William is as good on the show as it is in the books, get the hankies ready.

Claire and Jamie Reunite

When Claire returns to Scotland in the 1760s, it doesn't take her long to find Jamie, and the beloved "print shop scene" sees them reunited. In typical Claire and Jamie fashion, they are quickly thrust into one adventure after another. Jamie's shop is later burned down by young Ian Murray, who is trying to save himself from a man investigating Jamie because the shop is not solely a functioning printer - it's also a front for smuggling alcohol from France.

Jamie Marries Laoghaire (and Gets Shot)

When Jamie and Claire return to Lallybroch, Jenny is less than thrilled to see Claire, which is understandable because Jamie and Claire can't tell her the truth about where Claire has been for 20 years, and the lie they tell sounds, well, like a lie. Jenny sends for Jamie's wife, who is none other than the scheming Laoghaire from Castle Leoch - remember her? She's the one who tries to have Claire burned as a witch back in season one.

Upon finding out that Jamie is married to this girl of all people, Claire flees for Craigh Na Dun, determined to return to Brianna in 1968. Meanwhile, Laoghaire is so mad with rage that Claire has returned that she shoots Jamie. The only thing that keeps Claire from time traveling once more is that young Ian comes to fetch her to tell her Jamie is dying from gunshot wound. Claire thought to pack some penicillin tablets when she came back to Scotland, and she uses one to cure Jamie's infection, but if she hadn't ridden back to Lallybroch, he probably would have died.

Pirates Capture Ian

Remember in episode three of the third season when Jamie escapes Ardsmuir Prison to go looking for the "white witch" that the seemingly delusional old man is muttering about? Well, he doesn't find Claire, but he does manage to find the treasure and he hides it on an island, where he and the Murray family occasionally go to fetch one of the gemstones. Since the treasure is not money, they have to be careful when and how they use the gemstones, needing a way to convert them into cash, so they only go out to the island when it is absolutely necessary.

In this instance, Jamie needs the money to pay off his divorce settlement to Laoghaire, so he, Claire, and young Ian go to the island. But wouldn't you know it, Ian is kidnapped by pirates, who take the boy and the treasure and set sail for the West Indies.

Claire Is Kidnapped

Naturally, Claire and Jamie can't just let their nephew be taken forever by pirates, so they secure passage on the Artemis via Jamie's cousin Jared in France and set sail for the West Indies as well. They're joined by Fergus, because he will always and forever be Jamie's right-hand man, and Marsali, Laoghaire's daughter who is in love with Fergus (and he with her). The two of them are "handfast" already, which indicates they are already committed to each other, but Jamie says when they reach the Caribbean the two must be married by a proper priest.

Anyway, during the journey, the Artemis is set upon by a British Man O'War (a large ship), the Porpoise, which has become overrun with typhoid. Claire agrees to go aboard and examine the men, but while she's there, the Porpoise simply leaves the Artemis behind, needing her to stay with them in the hopes of keeping enough men alive that they can reach Jamaica, because they're carrying the new governor of the island - who just so happens to be Lord John Grey, whom Claire meets on the deck, though neither of them knows who the other one is.

Claire and Jamie Reunite (Again)

Eventually Claire is reunited with Jamie, Fergus, and Marsali, and they reach Jamaica, looking for Ian. Jamie and Claire attend Lord John's governor's ball, and it is there that Claire finds out who Lord John is, what his feelings are for Jamie, and the fact that Lord John raised William, Jamie's son that she didn't know about. It's quite the revelatory evening, to say the least.

Geillis Duncan Reappears

Did you think we'd seen the last of Geillis Duncan? Think again. She travels all over the place, spurred on by her obsession with an independent Scotland. In Voyager, Geillis has married a wealthy Jamaican plantation owner, Barnabas Abernathy (yes, the same last name as Claire's 1960s colleague, Joe Abernathy). After killing her husband (the latest in a long line of husbands she kills), Geillis uses his plantation to kidnap young men who are virgins because she believes they have a stone inside them she needs for her magic. It is never quite made clear what exactly she needs the stone for, but the point is she is kidnapping and raping young boys, then killing them. It is here that young Ian is being kept.

Jamie and Claire manage to rescue Ian and kill Geillis in the cave where she had been planning to time travel. It is in this cave where Geillis's remains are found 200 years later and brought to Joe Abernathy at Harvard to help identify.

The Fraser Prophecy

It's unclear if the show is going to incorporate this aspect of the books. In Voyager, a reverend tells Claire that there is a prophecy about the Frasers of Lovat, which is Jamie's lineage. Jamie's father Brian was the bastard son of Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat. We met him in season two when Jamie needs more troops to fight for the Jacobite cause.

"The prophecy states that a new ruler of Scotland will spring from Lovat's lineage. This is to come to pass following the eclipse of 'the king of the white rose' - a clear reference to the Papist Stuarts, of course," the reverend tells Claire.

This prophecy is why Geillis takes a pointed interest in learning about Brianna from Claire, because she's convinced there will some day be an independent Scotland, ruled by a descendant of Lovat (whose line dies out in the 1800s, originally).

What's interesting is that Jamie has not one but two descendants: Bree and William. Perhaps where Diana Gabaldon is going with this is to put William (or one of his descendants) on the Scottish throne. We haven't gotten there yet in the books, and the show might not choose to make this a part of the plot, so this is all speculation. The prophecy is mentioned in the latest book, Written in My Own Heart's Blood, but it is not completed as a plot point yet. Gabaldon has said that she thinks book 10 will "probably" be the last book, so presumably the prophecy will be resolved by the end of that book.

The Hurricane Lands Them in Georgia

Back to Voyager. The very last thing that happens in this third book is that Jamie, Claire, and Ian set sail for Eleuthera, a neutral, Dutch-owned colony, where they plan to meet back up with Fergus and Marsali. On the way, trying to escape the Porpoise once more, their little ship is caught in a hurricane, and Jamie, Claire, and Ian are swept away and wash ashore in the English colony of Georgia, about eight years before the American Revolutionary War. What we can't wait to find out about America is when and where Jamie will reconnect with Murtagh.

This Is the 1 Thing Bobby Flay Will Never Do at a Restaurant

Professional chefs all have their own ways of doing just about everything, not only in their own kitchens, but any time they're around food. For Bobby Flay, brand ambassador for the Drink Good Do Good campaign, there is one thing he will never do in a restaurant, no matter what. "I won't send food back to the chef. Never," he said when I sat down with him at an event to promote the campaign.

He did say, however, that he will graciously accept a dish that is sent back to him at one of his restaurants. "It happens in all my restaurants for one reason or the other," he said. "I want my customers to be happy, and I will try to the end of the world to make them happy. That's it," he said.

Chef Flay also went on to share what he loves to order at restaurants and what he'll never order at a restaurant. As for what he loves to order so he doesn't have to deal with it at home: anything on crushed ice. "I don't easily have crushed ice at home, so if I can get oysters or anything else served on ice, that's what I go for," he said. But on the flip side, he'll never order cod. "It just doesn't taste like anything, so I don't bother." He pointed out that there is so much other seafood that he would much rather order, and I can't help but agree. Salmon or shrimp for me any day!

Prepare For Natural Disasters With an Emergency Kit For Your Home

When a natural disaster strikes, you have to be ready to leave your home at a moment's notice or live without power or water for an extended period of time. This means making some important preparations, like putting together a hurricane emergency kit. Having essential items within reach can make recovering from a disaster's aftermath more bearable and can help keep you and your loved ones safe. Make sure you're ready for a catastrophe by gathering up the following items.

Water

The most important item that you can have in any emergency preparedness kit is enough water to last everyone in your household for at least two weeks. Hurricanes and other strong weather can knock out power and impact water supplies, making your tap water either nonexistent or undrinkable and dangerous. Even after the storm has passed, you don't know how long it could take to get your water back, so it's best to be prepared for the long-term.

Cash

In the age of credit and debit cards, many of us rarely have cash on hand. But in the event that the power in your city goes out during a hurricane, you'll want to make sure you still have access to money since ATMs could be knocked out or inaccessible.

Important Documents

None of us enjoys thinking about losing our homes, but this is a real possibility if you're in the direct path of a hurricane. That's why it's so important to have your important documents ready, protected, and in a safe place. Keep passports, social insurance cards, home insurance policies, birth certificates, and any other essential documents you have in a waterproof container. Make sure it's in a location where it's ready to grab at a moment's notice.

Medications

Putting prescription medications in your emergency kit is a must. Include anything you take on a regular basis that's prescribed by a doctor, and make sure you're packing any medications that your loved ones or elderly family members take, too. Also consider packing things like EpiPens, pain medication, antidiarrheals, and other medications you might need.

Food

Like water, you should have enough food in your emergency kit to last you and your family members for at least two weeks. You won't know if you'll have electricity during this time, so focus on nonperishable food items like canned soups and dry foods like crackers. Make sure to pack a manual can opener, too!

Sanitary Items and Toiletries

Floodwater can be toxic and very dangerous to your health. While you'll want to avoid contact with floodwater, sometimes it's impossible to fully avoid. In this case, it's important to have sanitary items and toiletries on hand so you can keep clean and prevent illnesses. Keep personal hygiene items on hand as well, like toothbrushes and sanitary napkins.

Supplies For Children and Pets

Your children and pets have unique needs that require extra planning. Parents with babies and toddlers will need to pack diapers, wipes, soothers, formula, clothes, blankets, and other essentials. For pets, make sure you have two weeks' worth of food and any special medications they take, as well as any crates or carriers for transportation. Pack toys for both children and pets to ensure they're kept occupied.

Flashlights and Extra Batteries

Being without power and light is not only inconvenient, but it can be dangerous as well. Pack a few flashlights in your hurricane emergency kit, and be sure to stash some extra batteries. You should also try to pack extra batteries or wireless chargers for the rest of your electronics, like your cell phone, so you can keep in touch with family or contact emergency services if necessary.

First Aid Kit

No disaster preparedness kit would be complete without a first aid kit. You can buy a first aid kit from the Red Cross, or you can put one together yourself. If you're putting it together yourself, just be sure to include an assortment of bandages, antiseptic wipes, gauze, gloves, tweezers, scissors, and a thermometer.

The Incredible Reason 1 Mom of a Kid With Severe Food Allergies No Longer Has to "Worry"

"Today my peanut-allergic son ate 24 peanuts," one mom wrote on a Facebook post.

But don't worry – this story has a happy ending. It's one in which the boy "scarfed down two handfuls of his allergen . . . and he liked it!"

For parents of kids with severe food allergies, this might seem like an urban legend, but Sarah Wynia Smith explained how oral immunotherapy – a new, experimental treatment that, when performed early in a child's life, helps kids build up enough of a tolerance to eat cross-contaminated food – helped her son take control of his peanut allergy. And in turn, it rid her of the constant anxiety that came with keeping her child safe in the thousands of everyday scenarios that used to plague her family.

"I felt trapped and terrified almost constantly."

How is this possible, especially from a kid who has reacted to "trace amounts of peanut protein from other people's apparently clean hands?"

For starters, it wasn't overnight. In fact, for the past eight months, they have attended weekly, hours-long desensitization treatments with an allergist.

"On his first day, he started out drinking juice, which had five micrograms of peanut protein diluted into it," she wrote. "His appointment lasted six hours, during which time he was administered an increasing amount of the allergen diluted in juice. It was milligrams he could tolerate at the end of the day. We were sent home with a bottle of our own solution, instructed to give it daily, and return in a week for another increase in amount under the supervision of the allergist."

Over 25 appointments and hundreds of at-home doses, he slowly built up a tolerance. He went from diluted peanut powder juice to peanut flour to real peanuts expertly measured out and weighed on a scale.

"It took three months to work up to a single peanut," Smith wrote. "Three more to get him to 12 peanuts."

Although she hesitates to declare him "cured" of his allergy, she is proud that he is officially tolerant of the food.

But was all that work worth it?

I don't think anybody in our family would consider it a waste of time, money, or all of that driving for what it has given us in exchange. I've seen Jackson have an anaphylactic reaction. I've had to administer his Epi-Pen. Even more difficult over all these years of managing a life-threatening food allergy has been the extreme anxiety that I've shouldered. It's not a universal experience among parents of food allergy kids, but for me personally, I felt trapped and terrified almost constantly. He too was starting to get anxious about food that wasn't safe. Any food with a trace of peanut in it could have literally killed him. This led to our family avoiding not only restaurants that served anything with peanuts (I know how "careful" food service is about cross-contamination), but things like baseball games, birthday parties, wedding cakes, potlucks. It was all just too anxiety-provoking for the benefits to outweigh the negatives to attending such things. It was very socially isolating in a way that I never truly appreciated until managing a food allergy.

For all the parents of kids suffering from food allergies, oral immunotherapy could be a solution. As for Smith, she's getting ready to do something else she never thought possible:

She wrote: "I'll send him to kindergarten this Fall without worry that an innocent-looking cupcake sent in by a well-meaning classmate would send him to the ER."

Why This New Feature Coming to Uber Might Make You a Better Passenger

You're about to become the best Uber passenger ever thanks to a new feature rolling out for drivers. Starting Sept. 26, Uber will begin rolling out "Feedback for Riders," which lets UberPOOL and UberX passengers receive constructive criticism in the app. The goal of the feature is to make Uber rides a more pleasant experience for both people involved.

Before you start panicking about every single Uber ride, here's what you should know: you'll only get feedback if you're "dinged" by a driver three times in a 30-day period. Drivers who give you less than five stars will have a choice to pick from six different categories to let you know what went wrong. The categories are: attitude, wait time, number of riders, patience, wanted new route, and cleanliness. So, for example, if you get feedback three different times that you're always requesting a new route, you'll see that the next time you open the app. An example of what it looks like from a driver's point of view is below.

For now, the feature is only rolling out to riders in the US and Canada. So, if you start to see your passenger rating drop, you might want to reconsider how you treat your drivers and their vehicles.

You Will Never Look at Bell Peppers the Same Way After Learning This Fact

Some bell peppers have four lobes (or bumps) while others have three. Have you ever noticed that? While some claim it reveals the gender of the bell pepper, Facebook user Mouthwatering Vegan wants to set the record straight. Bell peppers don't have a gender, but the number of lobes will help you determine the best use of the bell pepper. According to this Facebook user, bell peppers with four lobes are sweeter and best eaten raw. They also contain more seeds so they are better for harvesting seeds to plant in a garden. Bell peppers with three lobes are best cooked or grilled, and they also contain less seeds. I haven't experimented with this, so I can't know for sure if it's true. One thing's for certain, though: I'll never look at bell peppers the same way again!

Oreo's New Chocolate Bar Tastes Like Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream!

My favorite ice cream flavor of all time is mint chocolate chip, and that's immediately what I thought of when I tried Oreo's new Mint Flavored Chocolate Candy Bar. It seems like Oreo is paying more attention to its Milka chocolate bars lately since it's the wild cookie flavors that usually get all the attention, and thanks to this new product, we're completely on board.

Fans of Thin Mints and Andes Mints will recognize similar flavors in Oreo's minty chocolate bar, which is filled with a creamy green creme that's packed with chunks of Oreo cookies. The milk chocolate candy bars, available in regular size ($1) and king size ($2), have six square-shaped pieces in each one, offering the perfect bite-size shape and equal amounts of mint and chocolate in every mouthful. "It's like a Thin Mint but more chocolaty" and "It reminds me of an Andes Mint with a crunch," said some of our resident Oreo experts upon taking a bite. We were a little worried the mint flavor might taste artificial or too much like chewing gum, but that's not the case at all. And since the candy bar tastes so much like mint chocolate chip ice cream, we strongly believe it would taste amazing frozen!

While we're all for the latest and craziest Oreo cookie flavor release, we have to say this candy bar might be even better than an actual Oreo. The Oreo Mint Flavored Chocolate Candy Bar is available nationwide, so the next time you're looking to get your mint-chocolate fix, forgo the ice cream and pick this up instead.

Mom's Hilarious Video Comparing First Pregnancy to Third Is So Spot-On

Pregnant with her third child, Esther Anderson is looking back on what her first pregnancy looked and felt like in comparison to this one, and her musings are so spot-on, you'll nod along until your head hurts. In a video posted to her blog's Facebook page, Story of This Life, Anderson appears as both the bright-eyed first-time mom who kept track of what vegetable her unborn child most related to in size and who she is now - a slightly more unkempt mom attempting to set up a pack-and-play for the new baby to sleep in, chowing down on a doughnut, and, honestly, just trying to get through this pregnancy while keeping her two daughters alive.

Watch the video to see her hilarious comparisons - including keeping to a first-pregnancy diet free of lunch meats, soft cheeses, and caffeine to a third-pregnancy diet that requires caffeine for survival purposes - but also to see how she manages to end the completely diverging trains of thought with the same exact sentiment.
