This Pasta Has 3 Times the Amount of Protein as the Regular Stuff, but How Does It Taste?

I recently gave up bread and pasta because eating it makes me feel like I swallowed a brick, so I was excited when I found this on the shelf on my recent grocery shopping trip. Pasta made from edamame?! I promptly threw it in my cart - I had to know how it tasted!

I've had lentil pasta, which I thought was pretty good, but this has 24 grams of protein per 200-calorie serving. Regular pasta has only seven grams. Edamame pasta wins in the fiber department, too, with 12 grams - regular pasta has a measly two grams. Furthermore, regular spaghetti has twice the amount of carbs, zero calcium, and 10 percent iron. Edamame noodles win again with 10 percent calcium and 45 percent of your daily iron!

This is really sounding too good to be true. So the million-dollar question is: does it taste good? I really wanted this pasta to be amazing because it is so nutrition-packed, but to be honest, I had low expectations. I thought it'd taste like cooked grass, at best, but with my first warm bite, I thought, "This edamame pasta is actually delicious." It really is. It has the same soft texture as regular pasta and a very mild edamame flavor, just as you'd expect.

It was yummy with a little olive oil and salt but tasted even better with tomato sauce, fresh basil, and sauteed mushrooms. I will definitely be buying this edamame spaghetti again and am so thrilled to have found a healthier alternative to pasta. I can't wait to try it with my avocado pesto!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Holiday Collection Is Here, And You're Going to Want It ALL

Mere months after dropping the Subculture Palette to mixed reviews, Anastasia Beverly Hills is back with a new collection, and it's clear the brand isn't here to play. That's because ABH has just released eight new products that make up its 2017 Holiday Collection, including "Prism," a new palette. And guess what? These babies all seriously gorgeous and will give you the brand's famous glow.

Chances are, you've been waiting patiently for this collection ever since you saw ABH president Claudia Soare looking like a luminescent goddess while wearing powders from the launch's Glow Kit. Seriously, the woman was only just sitting in her dang car, but her highlight was so on point.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, meet the Glow Kit's following four shades: "Marshmallow" (iridescent white), "Gumdrop" (a soft lilac), "Starbust" (frosty pink), and "Butterscotch" (bright gold). This range of colors ensures you'll never be of want for a new way to sparkle.

Two new blush sets, Gradient and Radiant are also included in the line. The first is made up of earthy matte shades like "Dusk" (a medium brown), "Vegas" (a deep berry), "Chocolate" (a cool mocha), and "Blackberry" (a juicy purple).

Radiant includes "Coastline" (a sandy peach), "Spoiled" (a soft pink), "Breeze" (a warm pink), and "Terrace" (an electric orange). Whereas Gradient includes cool neutral tones, Radiant packs a punch of girly color. This is not your New England Grandma's holiday collection - there is no pumpkin spice for ABH. Instead, these bright, surfer girl colors are pure west coast sunshine.

Three new Liquid Lipsticks are a-coming for your beauty bag. By now, you probably know, love, and hoard this product, as it's opaque, but non-drying, and super pigmented. The new hues are sandy browns and soft pinks, so again, if you're asking Claudia Soare, subtly is the trend of Winter.

Finally, of course, there's the piece de resistance - the brand spanking new Prism Palette. While ABH fans were quick to note on social media that at first glance the 14 new shades strike a resemblance to Subculture, look again and you'll notice that the ultra-matte, duo chrome, and metallic finishes sparkle way brighter - because it's the holiday!

We're especially excited about Dimension, a holographic silver powder with speckles of reflective pink (think Daenerys meets unicorn hair) and Throne, a shimmery camo that looks like a Winter evergreen tree - if it sparkled.

Remember, back in August, Norvina called upon social media to let fans have a say into what the new palette's formula should look like. In an emotional post, she asked for constructive criticism, so we can't wait to see how she ran with suggestions about how the powders should feel.

Ahead, see every gorgeous thing you can get your hands on today via the Anastasia Beverly Hills website.

Hate to Break It to You, but Cardio Might Be Sabotaging Your Weight Loss

I used to think going for a run was the quickest way to jump-start my weight-loss goals. From the outside, cardio seems to be the quickest way to burn fat and shed a few pounds, especially if you push yourself to the point of heavy breathing and sweating. I've learned over the years, though, that cardio isn't all it's cracked up to be. In fact, it might be the very thing that's stopping you from dropping those extra pounds.

"While doing cardio is great for your heart, lungs, and even your stress level, its not the fastest way to lose fat," said Lauren Clare, personal trainer and certified holistic health coach. The real key to losing fat is by building more muscle. "Having more lean muscle on your body helps increases your metabolism, which means you will be burning more calories on a daily basis," Clare explained.

If you're only focusing on cardio, you're not giving your body the chance to strengthen and develop those lean muscles, which means you're not providing yourself with all the tools you need to shed excess weight. Clare also points out that doing too much cardio can wreck the condition of your muscles. "While cardio does burn calories, it also can break down your muscles if you're doing it for long durations," she said. So all those superlong runs you take might actually be doing more harm than good.

This doesn't mean you can forget about cardio altogether, though. You don't get off that easy! Cardio certainly serves a purpose. It improves your cardiovascular health, burns calories, and releases a hefty amount of endorphins in your body. Just don't rely on it as your only source of exercise.

"The key to weight loss is not only about pounding out miles on the treadmill or elliptical," Clare continued. "Weight-loss goals are most successfully achieved when you have a combination of both cardio, strength training, and a balanced approach to nutrition." Consider that the winning combo!

I Never Lift Weights With Shoes on, and Here's the Important Reason

I can't remember the last time I lifted weights with shoes on. For the past year and a half, I've been doing all my strength training barefoot, and although I get strange looks from some people at the gym, I never let it stop me. It may sound counterintuitive at first, since shoes are meant to provide support for our body, but experts say there are many benefits to doing strength training sans sneakers.

Austin Lopez, CSCS and owner of Ausome Fit, prefers his clients remove their shoes during training. "The main benefit is 'increased proprioception,'" Lopez told POPSUGAR. "Shoes take a lot away from your ability to feel the ground."

Particularly when you're doing compound movements or any strength training that involves your legs, Lopez says it's important that you grip the ground with your feet, "like a monkey would with its feet." It sounds strange, but this makes it easier for you to "open up the hip by externally rotating the legs," according to Lopez. This is the form you want to achieve when you're doing movements like squats, deadlifts, lunges, etc.

The first time I ever lifted weights barefoot was at CrossFit. We were working on front squats and I figured I'd give it a try because I'd heard various things about how good it was for your form. I instantly fell in love with it. Since that day, I've never done strength movements with my sneakers on, whether I'm working on my lower or upper body. Being barefoot feels more natural and stable to me, since my toes are grabbing the floor beneath me, just like Lopez described. I feel like I can lift heavier weights without worrying about slipping and falling.

Lopez recognizes that working out barefoot isn't everyone's cup of tea, though. "Some prefer it after they try it and some aren't comfortable taking off their shoes at a gym," he told POPSUGAR. His advice is to simply try it. "You will feel why it helps to keep your balance and help you feel the movement better," he said.

However, when it comes to any kind of circuit or HIIT workouts, where I'm jumping or jump roping, I will leave my shoes on, because my feet and ankles need the support to cover all that ground. Lopez says he also recommends his clients leave their shoes on if they're doing this kind of activity.

But other than that, if you're working on strength training, going barefoot might be the way to go! Give it a try and see what you think.

The Worst Halloween Candy in the World

There was nothing worse on Halloween as a kid than dumping out your loot of Halloween candy only to discover a bunch of your least favorite things on earth. And while we can all pretty much agree on the best Halloween candy (everyone deserves at least five Reese's Pumpkins), the absolute worst of the worst is up for debate. We've tapped POPSUGAR editors for their most-hated Halloween candies that they'd never dare hand out to innocent trick-or-treaters, mostly based on their own disappointing experiences of the past. It's no surprise that there are multiple haters of candy corn, but you may or may not agree with the rest. According to us, these are the 10 most shameful candies to give out on Halloween night, ranked from least terrible to most.

So summon your "sistahhhhs" and prepare to spook your bank account, because you'll want every one of these blacked-out candles for your own collection.

See the Places Barack and Michelle Called Home Before the White House

Until very recently, Barack and Michelle Obama have proudly called 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue "home." For almost a decade, not only has this monumental White House served as their living quarters and "office space," but it has been where they have raised two cute little girls into poised and well-rounded young women. And while they already have their new home post-White House, we were curious to know where Barack and Michelle lived before they both became staples of American history. Read on for an inside look at their digs long before we referred to this power couple as president and first lady.

Change at the Disney Parks Is a Good Thing - Here's Why

The Disneyland of next decade is not going to look like this one. Disney California Adventure will be unrecognizable, nearly all Epcot rides will be tied to movies you've already seen, and some of your absolute favorite attractions may go away forever. (Deep breaths, please.)

If it feels like your Mad Tea Cup of nostalgia is spinning too quickly, I get it. The amount of change coming to Disney's theme parks in the next five years is overwhelming, and not just because writing about it is my full-time job.

There are so many exciting new experiences - Riding a Tron Lightcycle coaster! Piloting the Millenium Falcon! Scurrying around on the Ratatouille ride! - all on their way, which sadly means others need to leave, too. Ellen's Energy Adventure and The Great Movie Ride shuttered this month to make way for Epcot's Guardians of the Galaxy-themed coaster and the first-ever Mickey Mouse ride, respectively. Some of Disneyland's most charming areas were bulldozed for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, and the bulk of Disney's Hollywood Studios has already been halved into a construction zone. When Disney California Adventure rethemes Paradise Pier as Pixar Pier, favorites like Mickey's Fun Wheel are bound to change - and once that Marvel-themed expansion eventually does get announced? Well, A Bug's Land is likely on the chopping block, too.

It's easy to freak out when the fate of your favorite roller coaster or family lunch spot may imminently cease to exist, and throwing history in your face about how "Walt wanted the parks to be ever-evolving" won't help that. But maybe this will: regardless of what change is on its way, I'm convinced Disney Parks are about to become the best they've ever been.

I'm convinced Disney Parks are about to become the best they've ever been.

When the Streets of America are removed at Walt Disney World or California Screamin' likely changes forever at Disneyland Resort, it's not our childhood memories being sent to a landfill. Large-scale changes like these are intended to only make Disney more, well, Disney. For visitors, especially young children, the ability to see beloved characters come to life in a technologically savvy way is key to the parks' longevity. We're beyond meeting Winnie the Pooh while eating a sausage link at a character breakfast constituting a mind-blowing interaction, and Disney's in-park experiences need to reflect that. Instead of being confined to rewatching dusty VHS tapes of beloved classics and watching the zombie-like mannequins blink back at you from within Fantasyland dark rides, kids these days have conversations with animated Finding Nemo characters and text Mike Wazowski their favorite jokes while on vacation, mirroring the level of high-tech interactions they have in daily life.

Replacing an old favorite like Maelstrom with a Frozen-themed ride-through isn't just for mass appeal, it's for bringing the Disney experience guests have at home to life in as transportive a way as possible. I'd rather be lost at sea in the World Showcase lagoon than be forced to stand in line for Epcot's Frozen Ever After attraction, but even I know that seeing Disney's wildly advanced Anna and Elsa audio-animatronics before stepping outside to meet them IRL takes the movie's essence further than the ride's middling plot ever could, and that's what it's all about. These widespread changes are coming solely to appeal to us - our generation - so that we have a better experience with our future families on visits to the parks.

It's not just the big public stuff either. Disney is trying desperately to eradicate the all-chicken-nugget-everything theme park lifestyle for our Instagram-savvy peers who want craft beer instead of Bud Light, gourmet desserts in place of grocery-store-quality cupcakes, and food that will photograph as well as it tastes. Gone are the crayon-colored '90s hotel rooms in favor of sleek interior decor that feels like a clean Airbnb; food trends are being followed more quickly, merchandise is getting way cooler, and lodging is even becoming its own attraction.

All of those insane ticket price hikes are at least going toward something, with more attractions, updates, and enhancements like these announced weekly. It used to cost less to get through the Magic Kingdom's gates, sure, but you'd spend your entire day standing in line because Fastpass+ didn't exist and you couldn't order souvenirs, tickets, and food from your phone.

I professionally critique Walt Disney World and Disneyland, but when Disney Parks reinvent something these days, they tend to go above and beyond. The transformation of Florida's Downtown Disney to Disney Springs is both stunning and serene, with eateries like Morimoto Asia, D-Luxe Burger, The Polite Pig, and Amorette's Patisserie stacking the deck with places I insist people dine at while visiting Walt Disney World. When refurbishments are unveiled, it's clear that things haven't just been replaced, they've been enhanced. Take Disneyland, for example. The new Fantasmic! updates are so unbelievable that nightly fireworks now take a back seat, the rock work on Disneyland Railroad's rebuilt route is irrefutably gorgeous, and Maxpass makes skipping standby lines and enjoying the park to its full capacity easier than ever.

We locals (understandably) freaked when The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror closed at Disney California Adventure, but Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT is already the highest-rated attraction across both parks. Personally, I think the new ride is - don't egg me please - better than its predecessor, but some change comes without silver linings. The Great Movie Ride's removal makes the center of Disney's Hollywood Studios somewhat of a ride graveyard, the backstory justification for Guardians of the Galaxy coming to Epcot being that Peter Quill "visited as a child" still makes me gag, and honestly, I don't think seeing The Tivan Collection from the Monorail will ever feel quite right.

Still, there's a reason I don't let any of the park changes bother me on a personal level. Down in Florida, the reason Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resorts keep introducing new attractions, dining locations, lodging options, and immersive themed lands is to pull the tourism crowd flow toward themselves and away from the other. The speed with which rides and park lands are being greenlit is unprecedented; never before would we have seen E-Ticket attractions, full-fledged lands, and groundbreaking waterparks opening on the exact same day.

It's an era of theme park revolution, and we're the ones who will benefit from it. If a few favorite experiences have to go by the wayside to make living within our favorite movies, characters, and stories a reality, I'm all in.

Miley Cyrus's Mom Designed Her a Superstylish Barn For When She Visits Home

Until recently, Tish Cyrus was best known for being the mom of music superstar Miley Cyrus and wife of country legend Billy Ray Cyrus - but this mother of five (yes, she has five kids!) is seriously talented all on her own. This May, she stunned Bravo fans with her interior design skills in the series Cyrus vs. Cyrus, and she just opened the doors of her new Nashville abode to Architectural Digest.

While the entire home is inspiring - think cozy, country boho - perhaps the most standout element is the barn Tish designed specifically for Miley. "The floors were dirt; there was no flooring at all; and I thought the contractors were going to say we had to tear it down. But we ran the plumbing and we ran the electrical," she told Architectural Digest. After having to literally pick up the barn and move it closer to the main house in order to meet city codes, Tish set to work creating a "spunky" place for Miley to hang out when she visits home. Twinkle lights, a loft bed, and pops of bright pastels mark the one-of-a-kind barn guest house. Check it out ahead, and then visit Architectural Digest to read the complete feature on the Cyruses' new home.

The Weightlifting Technique That Will Change Your Body

Ever plan to go to the gym and stop dead in your tracks because you just don't know what to do? Maybe your goals are too broad? Maybe you're expecting too much? How can you really lose weight, gain lean muscle, and build your dream body with just one simple workout plan that doesn't require you move into the gym for the next year? Clearly, you're expecting too much from your efforts, right? Wrong! There is a way to reshape your body by losing fat and gaining muscle without spending countless hours in the gym. What do you have to do? Lift heavy weights to create lean muscle and lift light weights to promote fat loss. The best part? You can be in and out of the gym in less than 30 minutes each day. Here's how!

The heavy and light strength-training plan combines a couple of the most fundamental principles of lifting weights. The intention is to do an exercise for four sets with a heavy weight and low reps (up to six) and then another exercise that targets the same muscle for four more sets with higher reps (up to 12), but with a lighter weight. According to personal trainer Brian Pankau, CPT, you need to take "two to three minutes of rest between heavy [sets], and 45 to 60 seconds between lighter sets."

How does this plan work? When you lift heavy weights your muscles fatigue and ultimately grow (you won't look like a bodybuilder - we promise). From there, you work the same muscles with lighter weights to totally exhaust them, which burns more calories, creates a leaner body composition, and increases endurance. Muscles grow, body fat decreases, and you're only doing two exercises per body part. According to Anthony J. Yeung, CSCS, with this plan, "you'll burn more calories, shed fat, add more strength, and feel more energetic in daily life."

As a result of this significant caloric depletion, certified personal trainer and owner of HitchFit.com Micah Lacerte cautions that, "Nutrition will play a big role in what sort of results someone will get performing this plan, but if they are on [the proper type of diet], then this style of training will be excellent for building lean muscle." You have to make the effort to eat six small meals each day that all include some form of protein - with specific care to ensure you're getting protein before and after you work out.

While this plan can definitely work, it may not be for everyone. Pankau believes that while "fat loss is going to occur, [it may] not be fast enough for somebody with too much excess fat, so this plan is great for light and medium builds, but not really meant for heavier-set people."

What does this mean for you? For tight and toned triceps, a good combo would be overhead triceps extensions with a heavy weight and triceps kickbacks with lighter weights. For leaner, more sculpted legs, do leg presses with a heavy weight, and lunges with light dumbbells at your sides, or no added weights at all! For stronger, tighter biceps, heavy hammer curls and light preacher curls. The key is to do two moves per body part, one heavy, one light as described above. This will exhaust your muscles, promoting growth while leaning out your body. If you're in average shape, you can look way above average in less time. If you're in good shape, you may want to move to a beachfront property soon. Enjoy!

This 45-Minute HIIT Workout Will Help Shrink Your Belly

If you're looking to burn calories, lose body fat, and gain muscle, this 45-minute workout designed by fitness instructor John Kersbergen is all you need to maximize your gym time and effectively lose weight in the shortest amount of time. It combines cardio with strength-training moves, so aside from decreasing body fat, it also tones and defines your muscles. You get a one-minute rest every 12 minutes, so soak it up! Drink some water, catch your breath, walk around a little, and then get ready to rev up the intensity once again.

Here's How I Did a "No-Spend" Month - and Saved Over $700

I spent the Summer in a bit of an internal financial panic, while externally spending money like I was dying. Trips, dinners out, drinks, and a credit card with no limit on it gave me very little willpower. But somehow I made it work, even if there were anxiety-ridden days.

Flash-forward to the end of the Summer and two significant things happened. The first was that I got hit with a bad bout of bank fraud. It took a while to clear up, and payments bounced left and right. Returned payment fees, late fees, and overdraft fees piled up, making my already heavy load even heavier. The second was that I began to have more serious discussions of a life together with the man I've been seeing. And there is no way I want to be a financial mess for this one - I'm old enough to have it together, and it was about time I got there.

So to get myself on the right side of the financial equation, I decided to do a no-spend September. The rules were simply that I could not spend money on anything that wasn't essential. This meant no Starbucks, no pedicures, no SoulCycle, no SiriusXM - and a slew of other things I loved.

My only exception to my no-spend rule was cash I had made selling items on LetGo and the Facebook marketplace. That was my emergency "I really need a glass of wine at a gastropub" money. But even then, I was cautious about spending that.

I spent money on nothing but essentials for one month. I saved a little more than $700 in addition to my normal savings and paid all my bills exactly on time. These are some tips for anyone looking to scale back on their spending.

Be Vocal About Your Goal

When I was vocal with my friends about why I was doing this, the support I got was wonderful. And every time I wanted to go out to lunch or break the rule, they were there to slap my wrists.

Ask For Help

In the midst of all this fraud and my money being held, I called my bank. I explained the situation and what I was going through in life. I had been charged 15 overdraft fees from all of my payments bouncing - and they refunded me 11 of them. That was the difference between getting ahead and being behind. Don't be afraid to call the bank and at least ask.

Accept Kindness

I am not one to ever ask for help, which is one of my faults. And at this point, I wasn't drowning, so I didn't see a need to ask for help. However, one Sunday morning, my father offered to pay for my weekly groceries (we have a grocery store addiction; we often go together and stroll leisurely through the aisles). I accepted and told him that it made a huge difference in my bottom line that month.

Don't Forget About Rewards

One Sunday, I was absolutely fed up with looking at my disgusting feet. I almost broke and got myself a pedicure, and then I remembered that my nail place has a rewards program. I whipped out my card and luckily had just enough for that pedicure. The tip? LetGo cash! Don't forget to use your rewards cards - they may come in handy on a rainy day.

Check Out Cross-Promotions

My Stop & Shop card links up with Shell gas to give me 10 cents off per gallon. While gas was an essential item, I used the Stop & Shop rewards to take some money off my weekly gas bill. I felt like this was a double score.

Brown Bag It

I brought my lunch (usually leftovers from dinner) every single day of the month. Not only did I lose a few pounds, but it also really made a difference in my wallet. I will tell you, though - prepping is crucial. There was a day when I brought a sweet potato to work and that was my lunch. I was too bogged down trying to make deadlines to prep the night before. But I still didn't go out for lunch!

Find Out What You Really Need

Yes, my clothes are looser from recent weight loss, but I don't need to replace my whole wardrobe right now. I don't need my 2 p.m. Starbucks every day. While I am looking forward to getting my roots done and going back to SoulCycle, I definitely plan on staying scaled back through the upcoming months. The resulting savings could be a vacation with the hottest man I know, or it could mean renovations on my home - both more worth it than frivolous spending.

9 Humblebrags That Can Really Piss Off Moms

Before you teach your kids the valuable lesson of "if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all," you might to have to endure some fellow mamas who totally missed that lesson. While these ladies aren't necessarily trying to be outwardly mean, they have a tendency to use their words as daggers with "innocent" statements. From highlighting how easy it was to breastfeed to letting everyone know how well-rested they feel because their child is sleeping through the night, these women hit other moms right where it hurts with their "wonderful" news. Unless you want to make other moms cringe on the inside, be happy for your own fortune while avoiding these nine humblebrags.

  1. "My baby latched on immediately." Good for you! But some mothers had to endure pain and tears before that first gulp, so keep your nipple glory to yourself.
  2. "My baby slept through the night at just four weeks." At least someone is getting some sleep, but it certainly isn't the struggling mamas out there who don't have the energy to tell you that it just isn't nice to brag.
  3. "My husband honestly doesn't mind changing all the diapers." Well, then he obviously hasn't experienced a day with four explosive blowouts. How eager you are to share your amazing diaper news then?
  4. "I found it easy to lose the weight." Maybe the reason for this unkind attitude is because you're hungry. Go eat something and try again.
  5. "Luckily, I didn't have any stretch marks." Wow - you have good genes! Thank your parents for your genetics but remember that stretch marks aren't something to be ashamed of; they are the reminders of the miracle your body brought into this world.
  6. "They are really good eaters." It doesn't matter if kids eat entirely organic or won't touch anything green; let's not start the food shaming already.
  7. "He potty trained like a pro." Some moms are covered in poop at the moment and calculating every diaper and baby wipe they have left until they can be in your position. Rejoice in your butt-paste-free status - don't rub it in.
  8. "Breastfeeding is easier than people say." OK, well actually, some people say that it's hard, because it was hard for them. For every painless feeding you've experienced, there's another mama out there currently trying soothe her bloody nipples.
  9. "He is in the top percentile for his age." I'm happy that you're happy that you have a tall toddler. I truly will rejoice in the news with you, but I never really asked how he compared to others.

What Donald Trump Has Wrong About Transgender Americans Like Me

The author and his mother.

When I was about 6 or 7, I remember praying to wake up and magically be a boy.

When I was 10, my mother pulled me out of school because she got a phone call telling her kids at school were calling me "gay." I didn't know what it meant.

When I was 17, I recall getting physically ill at the thought of wearing a dress under my graduation gown.

When I was 19, I finally found out what being transgender meant.

Up until that point, I had been under the impression that I was a lesbian who fell heavily on the butch side of things. I could dress the part and ignore the shouts of "Is that a boy or a girl?" while walking through my college campus. There was just no way I could magically become the boy I always wanted to be.

I wasn't a freak or a "burden," as the leader of our country likes to say.

But, wait. Being transgender is a thing? There's hope for me? I dove headfirst into the research and lives of other transgender individuals, seeing my own story reflected in their words. I wasn't a freak or a "burden," as the leader of our country likes to say. This was the validation I so needed.

When I was 24, I began hormone replacement therapy.

When I was 26, I got a double mastectomy to remove my breasts.

When I was 27, I finally got legal documentation that showed I am male.

That same year, it became quite clear that my entire being was under attack.

Upon looking at me, most people see me as male and I pass well enough. I'm a little on the scrawny side (and by a little I mean a lot) with patchy facial hair, but I haven't been misgendered in a few years. I do a lot of things cisgender males do, and I do a lot of things that cisgender males don't do because they don't want to jeopardize their masculinity. I work out, I spend time with my wife and our fur babies, I love my mom, and I've cried during every episode of This Is Us. I don't wear a badge that says I'm transgender, and I typically only bring it up if it's brought up in discussion.

I'm not contagious.

I'm not contagious. I'm not going to brainwash your children into wanting to start hormone treatment. I'm not going to warp your values if you come in contact with me. Honestly, I'm actually really boring. My idea of a great Friday night is spent on the couch with my wife playing video games and eating food that's extremely bad for me.

And, yeah. I've got a wife. She is a cisgender female. If anyone were to look at our wedding photos, they'd see a man and a woman getting married. Our dogs were the best man and flower girl. My parents were there and her entire extended family were there. My extended family is uncomfortable with my being trans, so most of them didn't respond to the wedding invite.

The author as a child.

Those in leadership positions within our country want to paint transgender people as being the enemy - almost as bad as those "fake news" outlets. They say we're not mentally fit, we're burdens and distractions - hell, we're not allowed to use the damn bathroom.

Donald Trump recently tweeted an announcement that sure sounds like he's reinstating the transgender ban in the military, something former President Barack Obama dismantled during his time in office. You know, Donald Trump? The same guy who championed how he'll be a better candidate for LGBTQ+ folks during his campaign? That guy.

You know what's crazy, though? The United States Armed Forces is currently the top employer of transgender individuals. These people are risking their lives to represent a country that wants to erase them from history. In fact, openly transgender individuals were supposed to be able to start enlisting in the military on July 1, but the heads of the military asked for a six-month extension so they can "review" a bit more.

But, no. Here we are again. Banned from serving our country. Banned from workplace protections. Banned from health insurances. Banned from bathrooms.

Do you know what transgender people do in the bathroom? We practice basic biological functions.

We've become a danger to society, the menaces lurking in the changing rooms at Target. We're being erased by the government and conservative religious folks. We're "unnatural," much like the medication you take, that breast job your neighbor had done, or 99 percent of the food you ingest.

Do you know a transgender person? Is your kid transgender? Your coworker? Your neighbor? Maybe you should introduce yourself to a transgender individual. Ask them (polite and noninvasive) questions. Get to know them.

We're not that exciting. I mean, all we want is a dog to pet, a place to pee, and the right to live our lives as our true selves. Pretty much the same thing you want and have.

We're not burdens. We're not mentally unfit.

We're people.

And you'll probably like us. I mean, I'd invite you over for video games, puppy cuddles, and really good food. What's not to like about that in a friend?

Gabby Giffords Reacts to Las Vegas Shooting: "We Must Stop This"

Following the tragic shooting in Las Vegas on Oct. 1, Gabby Giffords is urging her former colleagues to act on the issue of gun violence. The former Arizona congresswoman was a victim of a 2011 Tuscon shooting that left six people dead. Since making an unbelievable recovery, Giffords has advocated for stricter gun legislation.

At a press conference on Capitol Hill, Giffords offered her condolences to the victims and their families. "I know this feeling of heartbreak and horror too well. The massacre in Las Vegas is a grave tragedy for our nation," she said. "This must stop - we must stop this."

After thanking the first responders for their courage and aid, Giffords sent a message to the more than 500 people injured. "I send the injured all my strength: you have a long road ahead. Be strong. You can do it." As a result of the shooting she survived more than six years ago, Giffords underwent several intense brain surgeries and still continues to undergo physical and speech therapy today.

At the end of her statement, Giffords urged those in Congress to "make progress on the challenging issue of gun violence." "I know they got into politics for the same reason I did - to make a difference, to get things done. Now is the time to take positive action to keep America safer," she wrote, adding, "Do not wait. The nation is counting on you."

The Only Way to Reach This Cool Sea Cave in Portugal Is by Boat or Kayak

If you ever find yourself in Portugal, be sure to visit the south coast of Algarve, a destination known for its gorgeous beaches and caves. One particularly noteworthy location, however, is the Benagil caves near Lagoa. The massive formation features its own small beach enclosed by a rock dome with an opening at the ceiling that allows sunlight to beam down. Visitors on Benagil beach can reach the caves by boat, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard anytime of year. Swimming is not recommended as high tides could make conditions dangerous.

The famous site is most popular during Summer, and visiting during slower seasons might even give you the entire cave to yourself. Based on the photos, it definitely looks like an awesome place to add to your list. See it ahead!

The 10-Calorie Hack That Adds Protein and Fiber to Your Overnight Oats

It's hard to choose between a green smoothie and overnight oats. They're both quick and delicious, but I love them for different reasons. Smoothies are great because I can get my fill of greens, and overnights oats are perfect because they're so filling. While making a smoothie one day, watching the blender spinning around the pale green creaminess, I had a brilliant idea!

Why not add spinach to my overnight oats? Before pouring the soymilk into the mason jar of rolled oats, I threw it in the NutriBullet with one and a half cups of loosely packed spinach. Once the spinach was completely ground up into the soymilk, I added it to my jar of one-half cup rolled oats along with one teaspoon chia seeds, one tablespoon unsweetened coconut, and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.

The one and a half cups of spinach is only 10 calories, but it adds one gram of fiber and 1.3 grams of protein, 44.6 milligrams of calcium, and 250 milligrams of potassium. It also offers three-quarters of your recommended supply of vitamin A and 30 percent of your daily folate.

And since I used cinnamon, coconut, fresh fruit, and Silk Light Vanilla Soy Milk, it tasted sweet with a touch of vanilla-cinnamon - and I couldn't taste the spinach at all! This is a must-try overnight oats hack, and it tastes good cold or warmed up. If the green color is a little unsettling, add chocolate protein powder or cocoa powder, and it'll just look like brownie batter.

Why Season 7 of The Walking Dead Was Just Not That Great

When we were officially done with the seventh season of The Walking Dead, I was pretty disappointed. Don't get me wrong - plenty of things happen in season seven. The episodes kick off by revealing Negan's two unlucky victims, and we just watch the death toll climb from there. We literally meet a tiger! And yet, for all the progress we've made since Negan's fateful introduction, I can't help but feel like we didn't go anywhere at all.

I'm just going to say it: The Walking Dead spends a lot of season seven wasting our time. Call it filler, call it lollygagging, call it whatever. The point is, season seven drags on. In the first half of the season, we become acquainted with the various new communities: we make our way through the Sanctuary, the Kingdom, and Oceanside. We endure inexplicably long episodes where Negan shows Carl around the Sanctuary or where he ambles around Alexandria. We watch a lot of people mourn for a long period of time. In the latter half of the season, Rick finally decides to fight back and begins assembling an army and plenty of weaponry. Finally, 16 episodes after Glenn and Abraham's deaths, the war begins.

There are a couple of things that made this season crawl at an excruciating pace. One is the show's baffling decision to feature just one story per episode. When it comes to such an exciting world, it's much more stimulating to jump around. Consider a masterful show like Game of Thrones: nearly every single episode hones in on anywhere from four to six different character arcs. This is dynamic, natural, and exciting. On The Walking Dead, we don't need to watch Rick and Michonne play house for one entire episode. We want to check in on as many people as possible.

And then there's something else to consider: is the show stalling so we don't catch up to the comic books quite as quickly? It seems to me that all of season seven could have easily been sliced in half. It makes much more sense, from a storytelling standpoint, for everyone to spend four episodes mourning and then four episodes preparing for war. By the midseason finale, all hell breaks loose. Imagine the payoff of watching the war play out over a dazzling set of eight episodes, taking over the second half of season seven. Instead, we spent 16 episodes sitting on our hands and waiting - waiting for Rick to get his sh*t together, waiting for Negan to smell something fishy, waiting for something to happen.

Sure, now it's war. In a few weeks, season eight will begin and the war will start in earnest. Even so, I still can't help but feel like season seven was a whole lot of nothing.

Our Favorite Candy Bars Just Got Filled With Protein, and We're on a Sugar High

There's nothing healthy about a chocolate bar, right? The oozing, sugar-filled deliciousness stuffed in between layers of chocolate doesn't really leave room for any nutritional benefits. But Mars, the manufacturer of brands like Snickers, Twix, M&M's, and more, just gave some of our favorite candy bars a protein-filled upgrade, and it's leaving fitness fanatics ecstatic.

Protein by Mars is a new line of protein candy bars that puts a unique spin on the classics. Snickers, Milky Way, Bounty, and Mars bars have all received the protein treatment with 18 to 19 grams added into each bar. They are fewer than 200 calories each and could be a revolutionary way to fuel up and satisfy your sweet tooth, all at the same time. The bars are sold on Amazon, but are only available in the United Kingdom.

Read on to see photos of the protein candy bars, and stay tuned for more information about these treats making their way to the US. In the meantime, check out how to make your own healthy vegan Snickers.

You Can Get Boozy Ice Cream Sandwiches Delivered to Your Doorstep, and I'm Screaming

Boozy ice cream has spent some well-deserved time in the spotlight this year, as frozen treats made with wine, vodka, and even whiskey have found their way onto the food scene. As the dessert trend continues to gain traction, we've begun to wonder, "What on earth could possibly beat this?" And it looks like we've just found the answer, because alcoholic ice cream sandwiches exist, you guys. They're like the adult-approved version of our favorite childhood snack, and I'm honestly salivating just thinking about it.

These glorious gastronomic masterpieces hail from Tipsy Scoop, an NYC-based shop that makes booze-infused ice cream either on its own or nestled between two homemade cookies. (I think you probably know which option we're more drawn to.) Although Tipsy Scoop has a retail store in the Big Apple, foodies can enjoy its alcoholic ice creams without having to book a trip to New York because the company offers nationwide shipping. Yes, you can actually have boozy ice cream sandwiches delivered to your doorstep. And no, you're not dreaming. Welcome to 2017, people.

Tipsy Scoop sells its intoxicating dessert sandwiches through online retailer Goldbely, which offers a 12-pack option that's shipped with dry ice to keep the contents totally frozen until arrival. The package includes six sandwiches made with a chocolate chip cookie and Frangelico Affogato ice cream, and the other six are made with rainbow sprinkle cookies and Cake Batter Vodka Martini ice cream. OK, yum.

Each sammie contains five percent alcohol by volume, which is about the same as one beer. You certainly won't be getting a hangover from these, but you may catch a slight buzz, depending on your general tolerance levels. The 12-pack totals at $119 (including shipping), which is certainly quite the markup; but hey, it's definitely cheaper than a ticket to NYC!

If this doesn't satisfy your cravings for alcoholic desserts, you can also have any of Tipsy Scoop's boozy ice creams delivered directly to you. The shop makes tons of tantalizing flavors, including Mango Margarita Sorbet, Spiked Hazelnut Coffee, Vanilla Bean Bourbon, and Spiked Mint Chocolate Chip, to name a few, any of which can be packaged by the pint. We'll cheers to that!

Christina El Moussa Shares a Poignant Message Following the Devastating Las Vegas Attack

You Won't Sleep After Reading the Grisly Facts of the Menendez Brothers' Murder Case

This year marks 28 years since Erik and Lyle Menendez brutally murdered their mother and father in the family's Southern California home, putting the wheels in motion for one of the most infamous trials of the 20th century. ABC drudged up the disturbing case for a primetime special, Truth and Lies: The Menéndez Brothers - American Sons, American Murderers, back in January; Lifetime revived the story in June with the movie Menendez: Blood Brothers; and this month comes Law & Order True Crime - The Menendez Murders. On the off chance that you're not familiar with the case, here's a brief overview of the very complicated crime.

Who Are the Menendez Brothers?

Joseph Lyle and Erik Galen, born in 1968 and 1970, respectively, were children of privilege. Their father, José, worked his way up the corporate ladder to become the CEO of the (now defunct) film studio LIVE Entertainment. Their mother, Mary Louise "Kitty" Andersen, was a stay-at-home mother. The family lived in Chicago and New Jersey before relocating to the affluent suburb of Calabasas, CA, in 1987. Lyle got into Princeton but was suspended after being accused of plagiarism. Both boys - who were unusually close - were bred to be tennis pros, and their father pushed them to be the best.

The Murders

On the night of Aug. 20, 1989, José and Kitty were relaxing in their den, watching the James Bond flick The Spy Who Loved Me. Lyle and Erik ambushed them from behind, shooting José in the back of the head and crippling Kitty with a gunshot wound to the leg when she tried to run. They shot her so many times that her face was unrecognizable by the time police arrived on the scene. Because of their father's alleged ties to organized crime, the brothers tried to make it look like a mob hit by shooting out their parents' kneecaps. After the deed was done, they went to the movies and met up with some friends to provide an alibi. Later that night, Lyle called the police, screaming that someone had killed his parents.

The Aftermath

While investigators initially had no reason to suspect Erik and Lyle, the brothers started exhibiting strange behavior for people whose parents had been recently murdered. Lyle went on a spending spree, buying a Porsche and a buffalo wings restaurant in New Jersey. Erik went to Israel to compete in tennis tournaments. They went on extravagant trips together, racking up over half a million dollars in purchases in the months after their parents' deaths. Unable to take the guilt, Erik confessed to the murder in a session with his psychiatrist. The psychiatrist's girlfriend overheard the conversation and went to the police when the relationship fell apart. The brothers were arrested in March 1990.

The Trial

In the courtroom, Lyle and Erik showed little remorse for what they'd done. A damning piece from the LA Times detailed, "The brothers, appearing at a series of evidentiary hearings in recent weeks, have appeared at ease, smiling at their girlfriends and relatives who show up for support." However, as more and more evidence began to pile up, the unbelievable truth came out. They had gotten the idea to kill their parents from the movie The Billionaire Boys Club. Erik had even written a screenplay with his friend; the movie was about a rich kid who murders his parents to inherit their fortune. The brothers searched for a pitiable motive, alleging that their father molested them. The juries (one for Lyle and one for Erik) failed to agree on a verdict, resulting in a mistrial.

While the first trial was highly publicized thanks to the new channel CourtTV (aka TruTV), the second trial gained far less attention. Another reason the Menendez brothers fell out of the public eye? America had moved onto another high-profile murder case: that of O.J. Simpson, who had been accused of killing Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. While the public had lost much of their initial interest in the brothers, Erik and Lyle were convicted and sentenced to life in prison in 1996. Their appeals have been denied, and they have no chance of parole.

Lyle Menendez is currently serving his time at the Mule Creek State Prison in California, while Erik is residing 200 miles away in a cell in the Pleasant Valley State Prison.

Law & Order True Crime - The Menendez Murders premieres on Sept. 26.

Kamala Harris Wants Americans to Commit to Action, Not Prayers, After Las Vegas Shooting

As Americans across the country continue to grapple with the aftermath of the Las Vegas shooting on Oct. 1 that has left 58 dead and more than 500 injured, political figures are springing into action. President Donald Trump called the worst mass shooting in America "an act of pure evil," and Hillary Clinton called on everyone to "stand up to the NRA [National Rifle Association], and work together to stop this from happening again." Echoing a similar sentiment was Senator Kamala Harris from California, who posted a Facebook message praying for the victims and their families. In the same post Harris also touched upon gun violence, stating, ". . . we must also commit ourselves to action. Another moment of silence won't suffice."

Harris also addressed the fact that the last deadliest mass shooting in America occurred less than 18 months ago – at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida – writing that "this kind of tragedy has become too routine in America." She continued by saying, "We cannot simply throw up our hands or continue to justify the presence of weapons of war whose primary purpose is to kill the largest number of human beings in the shortest amount of time possible. We must honestly acknowledge the epidemic of gun violence and work together, now, to curb it." You can read her statement in its entirety ahead.

This morning, we awoke to horrific news out of Las Vegas. More than 50 people were murdered and over 500 more injured,...

Posted by U.S. Senator Kamala Harris on Monday, October 2, 2017

Joining Harris in calls for action on gun violence was Nelba Márquez-Greene, a mother of a Sandy Hook victim. She tweeted that the country needs "sensible gun legislation and we need it now." It's a statement that maybe, someday, Congress will step up on and finally follow through with.

The Trump Family Is Bankrupting the Secret Service, Because Vacations

It's no secret that President Donald Trump is used to a certain kind of lifestyle. From weekly trips to Mar-a-Lago at $3.6 million a pop to a 17-day "working vacation" at his New Jersey golf club, it's also clear that he hasn't made any attempts to tamp down his jet-setting since taking office. But while bankrolling the gallivanting of a real estate developer or reality television star was Trump's prerogative before he took office, he's now reliant on the federal government and the taxpayers to foot the bill. To make matters worse, his entire family requires security protection when they travel. And like the president himself, none of them can stay still for very long. As a result, countless people have tried to slow the Trump family's roll - none of whom have found any sort of lasting success. That is, until now.

On Aug. 21, USA Today reported that the Secret Service budget had been depleted and "more than 1,000 agents have already hit the federally mandated caps for salary and overtime allowances that were meant to last the entire year." That's right: it's August, and the Trumps have officially maxed out the budget for their protection. While some of the weight can be shifted to the fact that Trump has 11 more people under protection than the previous administration did, it's hard to explain away some of the more egregious spends. Take, for example, "some $60,000 on golf cart rentals alone," the costs associated with Melania and Barron Trump spending the majority of this year living in the heart of Manhattan, or the fact that "Eric Trump's business travel to Uruguay cost the Secret Service nearly $100,000 just for hotel rooms."

"I would rarely leave the White House because there's so much work to be done. I would not be a president who took vacations. I would not be a president that takes time off," Trump told a reporter back in 2015. And now, as the director of the Secret Service pleads his case on the Hill for a budget increase and the overtime can't be stacked up any further, Trump may soon have to do something completely out of character: be true to his word.

The Mother of a Sandy Hook Victim Has a Must-Read Message For Congress After Las Vegas Shooting

It has been almost five years since a mass shooting resulted in the loss of 26 lives at Sandy Hook Elementary School, yet America has made frustratingly little progress towards ensuring similar tragedies can no longer occur. And the mother of one young Sandy Hook victim has had enough.

In the wake of the Oct. 1 mass shooting in Las Vegas that injured hundreds of innocent concertgoers and killed at least 58, Nelba Márquez-Greene, the mother of Sandy Hook student and victim Ana Márquez-Greene, sent a series of powerful tweets calling out politicians for their inaction on gun control.

Márquez-Greene tweeted that she took issue with the notion that the shooting in Las Vegas was a result of the increasing division between political parties rooted in the 2016 election. "Newtown happened well before Trump was elected," she said. "We need sensible gun legislation and we need it now.

She also pointed out what she views as conflicting priorities in American culture that prevent us from protecting ourselves against continued gun violence. "In America we value guns, flags and fake acts of patriotism over people, pain and real acts of courage," she wrote.

Later, Márquez-Greene described the grief of losing a child to senseless violence – and the fear she has that other mothers and family members will have to live with that same pain in the wake of the Las Vegas shooting. "You don't recover from this - as a mother, brother, father. You manage. But there is no recovery." Outlining the heartbreaking realities of life after losing a child to gun violence, she wrote about the struggles of having to navigate life with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression after the loss of a child.

But above all, Márquez-Greene made it clear that she believes Congress and their failure to pass sensible gun control legislation is to blame for the continual mass shootings in our country. She wrote that she is "stunned by the level of trauma (direct or vicarious) Congress is willing to make us suffer through" before adding that their lack of courage to take "meaningful action on issues that most matter" is "outrageous."

According to the Gun Violence Archive, the latest shooting in Las Vegas is America's 273rd mass shooting in 2017. And as a mother who lost her child to gun violence, Márquez-Greene just wants to know one thing: "Is this what we are saying to American citizens they have to accept as normal?

Sarah Paulson Has Jessica Lange to Thank For Her Role on American Horror Story

Sarah Paulson and Jessica Lange are most recognized for their roles as Lana Winters and Elsa Mars, respectively, on American Horror Story, but if it wasn't for Lange, Paulson would have never been a part of the show. In this week's issue of Adweek, Paulson revealed that she first met writer Ryan Murphy during a guest appearance on season two of Nip/Tuck, but she had no idea "that was going to lead to my world spinning on the Ryan Murphy axis." Murphy later cast Paulson in a 2008 pilot of another FX show, though it never got picked up and the two eventually lost contact - that is, until Lange got involved.

Lange, who first met Paulson in 2005 when they costarred in Broadway's The Glass Menagerie, had been hanging out with Paulson after moving to LA to film American Horror Story's first season in 2011. "LA is really not her town, so she was glad I was there," Paulson said while recalling the time she accompanied Lange to a Murphy event. "It was the first time I had seen Ryan in many years. Jessica threw her arm around me, looked at Ryan, and said, 'Can't you find something for Sarah to do on the show? It would be so great. I just like having her around.'"

Murphy happily obliged and immediately cast Paulson as psychic Billie Dean Howard in three episodes of American Horror Story before taking Paulson out to dinner and offering her a long-term role with the show. "I was like, 'Based on what?'" Paulson said. "I didn't know why he was motivated to do that, but he did. Then I played Lana Winters, and the rest is history." "We always knew she was great, but her ability to carry things and put them on her shoulder became evident. And she's knocked it out of the park over and over again," Murphy gushed. "She's become a major star."

Emma Roberts Made Her American Horror Story: Cult Debut and, Well, That Was Fast

Emma Roberts made her debut on American Horror Story: Cult on Tuesday in the episode titled "11/9," which gives viewers a peek into what was going on with the characters between Election Day and the present-day storyline. It also shows how Kai recruits reporter Beverly Hope (played by American Horror Story: Roanoke breakout star Adina Porter) to his cult, which has a lot to do with Emma Roberts's character, fellow reporter Serena Belinda.

Serena is basically like if Chanel Oberlin from Scream Queens left college and became a reporter. She's b*tchy and ruthless, hiding behind a faux feminist front; she acts like she wants to raise fellow women up, but really she's just out for herself. As we see in the Election Day montage, Serena says she's voting for Hillary Clinton and really votes for Donald Trump. She also accuses Beverly of being a woman who needs to drag down other successful women in order to feel good about herself, which is not what Beverly is like at all.

She also tells Beverly, "You can say whatever you want to me, b*tch, but I am going to be on the Today show one day. And I don't care how many d*cks I have to suck to get there, 'kay?"

Presumably, Kai decides that Serena needs to go, both because she's terrible and because that's a way to prove to Beverly that she should join his cult. So Kai and two other clowns (who we theorize are Meadow and Harrison) proceed to murder Serena while she films a segment for the news.

It's quite a testament to Serena's awfulness that our biggest feelings of fear during her death scene are for her poor cameraman and the puppy she's holding. (Spoiler alert: the cameraman doesn't make it, but thankfully the dog does. So, hey, the clowns aren't total monsters.)

What's actually far more chilling about that scene is the fact that this scene is a little too on-the-nose with the events of August 2015, when reporter Alison Parker and her cameraman, Adam Ward, were shot and killed by a former reporter for their TV station during a live news broadcast in Moneta, VA. One has to wonder if that was by design from the American Horror Story: Cult creators, and if so, was it in bad taste?

Either way, it looks like we won't be seeing any more of Roberts on AHS: Cult, which is a shame because her colorful characters on Ryan Murphy shows are always usually a lot of fun. Nobody plays "heartless b*tch" like Roberts.

Why Outlander Cut Basically Everything About Lord John's Lover

Outlander fans who haven't read the book series may have been wondering a bit about Lord John Grey, a character we briefly met in season two who reappears as the governor of Jamie's prison after he gives himself up for treason to spare his family at Lallybroch. In episode three, "All Debts Paid," Lord John realizes he needs to work together with Jamie, who has essentially been named the leader of the prisoners, and the two develop an unlikely friendship. Lord John even confides in Jamie about his former lover, something non-book readers were wondering about, so author Diana Gabaldon kindly pointed them in the right direction with a Facebook post instructing them to Google "Outlander Lord John Hector" so that they may read up on Lord John's backstory.

On the show, Lord John tells Jamie that he "lost a particular friend at Culloden."

"He was the reason I joined the army," says Lord John. "He inspired me . . . My brother was there when I found him dying. I didn't even have the chance to say a proper goodbye. Hal dragged me away. He was embarrassed, you see. He said I would overcome it. Come to terms with it, in time. Hal is generally right, but not always. Some people, you grieve over forever."

In Voyager, this is a slightly bigger deal for Lord John. Readers learn that the man Lord John had loved was Hector Dalrymple, a lieutenant in Hal's regiment whom Lord John describes as "twenty, tall and muscular and fearless . . . dark-haired and blue-eyed, tender-mouthed, always smiling."

"It had been ten years since Hector had died at Culloden, hacked to pieces by a Highland broadsword, and still John woke in the dawn sometimes, body arched in clutching spasms, feeling Hector's touch."

Also in the book, Lord John reveals that Hal had made him go look at Hector's body.

"He said that I must; that unless I saw him dead, I should never really believe it. That unless I knew Hector - my friend - was really gone, I would grieve forever. If I saw, and knew, I would grieve, but then I should heal - and forget. Hal is generally right, but not always."

In her Facebook post, Gabaldon reveals that they actually shot that scene for the TV series, but it had to be cut for time.

"Fwiw [For what it's worth], the original script had Hector's death scene, including Lord John's being dragged away by his brother," she wrote. "It was filmed, but cut for lack of time, something that often happens in TV, alas."

Executive producer Maril Davis also told us in an interview at the 2017 Summer TCA press tour that they very much wanted to include more between Lord John and Jamie, but they just didn't have time.

"That's the trouble with taking a parallel storyline, doing a Claire story and a Jamie story - we did have to truncate [Lord John and Jamie] and that is one of my great regrets, because that is one of my favorite parts of the book, seeing that relationship unfold," Davis revealed. "It's even more heartbreaking when John reaches out and grabs Jamie's hand and the heartbreak in Jamie to be like I opened up and I trusted you and I haven't done that in so long. But I still think that scene really works. Sam [Heughan] is heartbreaking in that scene and so is David Berry; he's a fabulous addition to our cast."

Also, if you think Jamie saying goodbye to Lord John and William at Helwater is the last we've seen of Lord John (or William), think again. There's plenty more to come with that particular character, even if his dramatic scene of finding Hector slain in battle was cut for time.
