Why I Think CrossFit Is Way Safer Than Any Other Group Fitness Classes

Before I went to my first CrossFit session in 2014, someone said to me, "Well, be careful, because it's only a matter of time before you get injured." Not that I asked for their opinion anyway, but I took it with a grain of salt. You've probably heard your fair share of people claim that CrossFit produces a lot of injuries, but there aren't many reliable statistics out there yet in order to come to a definitive conclusion.

Not only have I never been injured doing CrossFit or seen any of my friends or acquaintances get hurt there, but I have been injured a couple times before at a gym or fitness studio. I once hurt my lower back in a fast-paced, trendy studio class because we were being told to do some pretty complicated movements, with hardly any instruction on how to do them. The worst injury I experienced, though, was a sprained ankle in a group fitness class that had me in bed for three days straight. I was furious - and in a lot of pain.

It happened in a circuit class at my gym where each station was set up with platform steps, and we were instructed to do different movements that involved jumping, fast movement with your feet, and running. The instructor told us briefly how to do the movements, but simply let us work out on our own from there. The room felt like complete chaos, which is not unlike a lot of group fitness classes I've been to in my time, come to think of it. People were running from one station to the next, recklessly trying to complete the movements as fast as they possibly could.

There was a sense of competition in the room, which I usually thrive off of, but it didn't feel like the friendly kind. One guy shouldered me out of his way so he could get to a station first, and another girl refused to share one of the platform steps with me. More importantly, the class was so fast-paced and the instructor was shouting so many different things that I lost concentration for a split second. Someone raced past me, elbowing my side, and I lost my balance. I fell off a three-step platform and twisted my ankle pretty badly. I left the class early, infuriated, and I wasn't able to work out for two weeks. Even after I got some movement back in my body, I had to be extremely tender with my ankle, and I couldn't run on it for an entire month.

On the other hand, I did CrossFit religiously (six times a week) for a year and a half, and I never experienced anything close to this. In fact, quite the opposite was true. Each CrossFit session I went to was methodically planned out, meticulously instructed, and consistently positive. The owners of my CrossFit box were sticklers when it came to form, and they wouldn't even allow me to attempt many Olympic lifts until I mastered the form while using a wooden stick in place of a barbell. Sure, there are some difficult explosive movements in CrossFit, but if you go to the right CrossFit gym, you'll be under close supervision by experts who have your safety in mind, so you won't be doing anything your body isn't ready for.

When I think back to my group fitness injuries, here are the common denominators: the instructor doesn't give comprehensive instructions, everything is too fast-paced, and many people are performing the movements the wrong way during the entirety of the class. I never saw any of those three things happen in all my time doing CrossFit.

Granted, not every CrossFit box is created equal. There are certainly some gyms out there that are run by folks who aren't as cautious and caring with their clients, but I've trained at quite a few boxes in my time, and the vast majority of them were safe places to work out. Although I don't do CrossFit anymore, I still encourage people to give it a try, especially considering how many of them now require you to do a fundamentals course before you can train in the normal sessions.

This isn't to say that you should walk into CrossFit thinking you'll never get injured. I just think you run a higher risk of getting hurt in the popular group fitness classes where not enough instruction is given. If you have any preexisting conditions or injuries, definitely speak to the instructor (and maybe even your doctor) before getting started at CrossFit or any other gym. This will ensure you have the safest, most effective experience while working out.

If You're at Chipotle, These Are the Leanest, Lightest Orders

Chipotle has had its fair share of bad press in the past year or so, that's for sure. But it still remains one of the most popular fast-casual restaurants in the United States. Clearly, people are still into it. If you're out with friends at Chipotle, or stopping roadside at the beacon of silver-wrapped burritos while traveling, we've got a handful of tips for you.

Related: These Are the Healthiest Things You Can Order at Taco Bell

Before we get into how to order the four items Chipotle offers - burritos, tacos, bowls and salads - let's go over some general pointers . . .

  • Beans: Black beans have less sodium, more fiber, and more protein than pinto beans, but they're similar in terms of calories.
  • Rice: We skipped rice, both brown and white, because of high sodium and carbohydrate content. If you're needing some rice, know that although brown rice has more fat and carbohydrates than white rice, it's higher in fiber, protein, and iron, while being significantly lower in sodium.
  • Meat: In many of these orders, we opted for sofritas, which is a tofu/vegetarian option, and the lightest on calories across all choices. If you opt for animal-based protein, chicken is the lightest in terms of calories. However, steak had slightly less fat and about half the cholesterol of chicken, while it was on par in the amount of calories, sodium, and protein. Steak also has twice as much iron as chicken.

Now, let's order!

Elana K. Arnold's What Girls Are Made Of Is a Must Read For All Women

The National Book Foundation doesn't only give out awards for works of literature aimed at adults. It also names finalists and an eventual winner for Young People's Literature. On the 2017 list of National Book Award finalists, one book stands out in particular for its portrayal of female adolescence.

Elana K. Arnold's What Girls Are Made Of tells the story of teenager Nina Faye, who is completely infatuated with her boyfriend. But when he breaks up with her, she is suddenly casting about for meaning in her life. What is she if she's not somebody's girlfriend?

As Nina tries to find meaning in her life as a young woman and not somebody's significant other, the story interweaves flashbacks that flesh out Nina's complicated relationship with her mother and some magical realism tales about virgin martyrs and female saints who were forced into genital mutilation.

It sounds haphazard, but it's not. The other stories are presented as being part of a school project Nina is working on, so they aren't just inserted into the story randomly. Plus, the divergence from Nina's story helps illustrate all the complex issues that go into coming of age as a young girl, in any time period. It's a confusing, sad, lonely time for many young women.

There is a decently uplifting ending, though. Not "happy," per se, but hopeful and strong, so it doesn't leave readers devastated or saddened about Nina's experiences. It's a must read for women of all ages, but especially teenagers.

The Best Types of Teas to Sip For Losing Weight, According to Experts

Looking to sip your way to some serious health benefits? Not only is tea a great way to improve your overall health, but it has some powerful weight loss boosting capabilities as well. We consulted with some tea experts - Billy Dietz, tea specialist at DAVIDsTEA and Kristina Richens, certified tea expert and Minister of Commerce at The Republic of Tea - as well as Lisa Eberly-Mastela, RD, MPH to find out which teas are best for shedding some pounds.

While these aren't outright medical claims or prescriptions for weight loss, teas have well-studied (and scientifically proven) natural benefits that can help your body perform at its best. Eberly-Mastela noted that "all tea will support weight loss because it helps you stay hydrated, which supports weight loss," but our team of experts chose a few standouts to add to your weekly routine.

Types of Teas

  • Green Tea and Matcha. These teas are "known for increasing metabolism," said Richens. And she's right! A study published in the American Journal For Clinical Nutrition found that green tea promotes fat oxidation, "beyond that explained by its caffeine content." Read: caffeine boosts your metabolism on its own, but green tea's got that extra mojo. It's also been shown that matcha can stop the growth of new fat cells. "This is due to the antioxidant catechins found in green tea," said Richens. "It triggers the release of fat from fat cells, and also helps speed up the liver's ability to turn fat into energy." Drink up!
  • Dandelion. Richens told POPSUGAR that this floral tea "can help eliminate excess water weight," and noted that "this small, yellow flower dots meadows around the world, [but] its roots are known as a powerhouse of healthy benefits," within naturopathic and homeopathic medicine. "The dandelion's use traces back to the 10th century when Arabian physicians revered the root for its cleansing properties and as a natural aid for digestion.*
  • Oolong. Oolong tea has been studied and proven to be effective in helping obese patients lose weight. Dietz also recommended Oolong for a metabolism boost.
  • Pu'erh. Another great metabolism-booster is pu'erh, a fermented variety from China. "If you are a bit hungry but not able to have a full meal, a smooth and full-bodied pu'erh could help hold you up!" said Dietz.
  • White Tea. Similar to green tea, white tea can stop new fat cells from forming - it's been studied and published in the journal Nutrition & Metabolism to help with weight loss.
  • Black Tea. Black tea is higher in caffeine, and "any tea with caffeine will support high energy levels, which will in turn support weight loss," said Eberly-Mastela. "High energy leads to more movement." She recommends drinking black tea before a workout to get a better calorie burn.

Special Ingredients

  • Cinnamon. This sweet spice "can suppress your appetite and alleviate cravings," said Richens. "It is also known for lowering blood sugar levels," (this has been studied and proven) "Which can impact the body's insulin production and potentially the storage of fat. When blood sugar levels are normal, the body doesn't store fat as quickly." We've experienced this first hand when we used cinnamon to curb sugar cravings.
  • Peppermint. Speaking of which, peppermint can also help suppress appetite and aid in weight loss. Dietz recommends a blend from DAVIDsTEA called Le Digestif: "a mix of apple mint, fennel, ginger, and peppermint." Lipton also makes a blend called "Soothe Your Tummy" which combines ginger, peppermint, and fennel as well.
  • Leaves and Herbs. Richens shared a few more ingredients to look for: gymnema leaves (the "destroyer of sugar" in Ayurvedic medicine), "may help to reduce cravings for sweets," while banana leaf has a compound called corosolic acid, "which can help the pancreas' production of insulin." She also listed the trendy herb cordyceps (popular within traditional Chinese medicine) to "boost energy and endurance."

I Tried a Swedish Wellness Tradition Every Day For 1 Week, and It Stressed Me the F*ck Out

When I'm at work, I'm busy all day long. Like, really busy. So when I heard about the Swedish tradition of fika, I was enticed by the practice. What the hell is fika, you may ask? It's an afternoon coffee break, but not just any regular coffee break.

Yes, you have your hot beverage and often a baked good, but the meaning behind this break is more than what it appears to be. It's about unplugging from your electronics and taking a moment to unwind. It doesn't matter where you do it or if you're alone or with friends - what matters is that you make time to decompress. Maybe that's why it seems like so many people over in Sweden are chill and pleasant.

So I decided to have fika every single day for one workweek. I was curious to see if the extra break would make me feel more productive and refreshed. If we're being real, it didn't go how I expected at all. Read on to see what I ate and drank and how I felt during each of my fika breaks. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll hate America - it's going to be a journey.

What It's Like to Wear "Mermaid Lashes" For 3 Weeks

Remember blue mascara? Everyone dabbled in the bold look at least once in their lives - for me, it was as a tween in the early 2000s trying to copy the cooler, older girls at school. Maybelline's iconic Great Lash in Royal Blue was the holy grail of my mini beauty stash (even more than lip gloss!). I'd never guess that, one, the trend would come back new and improved nearly two decades later, and, two, that I'd be wearing it every day for three weeks in my adult life. Twelve-year-old me is shook.

I reunited with blue lashes thanks to Clementina Richardson, founder of Envious Lashes, who recently launched "mermaid"-colored lash extension services at her New York studio. In case you've been living under a rock, mermaids have been dominating the beauty world lately. From entire makeup collections to nail art to hair colors, people are loving all things rainbow-colored and mythical. Lashes, it seems, are the last frontier.

Envious Lashes offers green, blue, and purple lashes. The style varies in length, curvature, and shades depending on the effect you want. Because I always wear my eyeliner winged, I got my lashes "cat eye" style, with longer ones at the ends. As for the colors, Richardson applied blue on the outer corners with a fade into purple then black into the inner corners.

While I'm already a huge fan of extensions for the way they lift my short, straight, angled-down lashes, I was admittedly apprehensive about committing to purple lashes for several weeks. Would I have to change the way I did my makeup to complement the colors? Would it look too out-there for an office? I was pleasantly surprised by how natural-looking the extensions were. You could only really tell there was color when the light hit them just right.

"I don't want it to be too harsh. It's kind of like when you get your hair ombré - you don't want to stop and get a harsh line. It has to be a gradient, a soft blend," Richardson told me. In the end, my extensions were 60 percent colored - but she suggested those getting them for the first time to start with having 10-20 percent of the extensions colored and spread out.

"I tend to put more intense color wherever the longest length goes because it draws the eye upward and makes your eyes pop more," she added. Beyond personal preference, the colored lashes are also eye-enhancing. Purple makes green eyes look more intense, while green lashes complement hazel eyes, and blue lashes make blue eyes even more bright.

Behold, the insane before and after:

I'm fully obsessed.

And I'm not the only one - compliments have been flowing since I first got them weeks ago. See a couple of reactions my friends had when I texted them right after the service, below. The lashes were the first thing people pointed out whenever they saw me. They've been called "mesmerizing," "so cool," "beautiful," and "creative" and have spurred some "omgineedthatnow" reactions, but, more often than not, people were just excited to exchange stories about their blue mascara days. Even complete strangers on public transportation would talk to me, asking questions about them. Mermaid lashes are an icebreaker, that's for sure.

I'm not sure I could ever go back to mascara.

Now, for the technical stuff. The lashes are made of silk because mink is too thin and wispy for the color to really pop, Richardson explained. The clear glue used is akin to a surgical adhesive, so those lashes really aren't going anywhere for up to a month. I haven't been as careful with them as I should've been (rubbing, sleeping on one side, etc.), and they've still held up beautifully. They've actually cut down my makeup routine significantly because having full lashes already makes me feel "done" enough that I don't have to do much makeup. No eyelash curling. No mascara. No eyeliner. No eye shadow. And definitely no clumping.

The mermaid lashes are well worth the price, which starts at $105 and goes up to $450 depending on the style you choose. As for the process, it takes one and a half to two hours because a lot more thought and strategy go into the placement of the colors. Again - it's 100 percent worth it. All things considered, I'm not sure I could ever go back to mascara.

Would you, if your lashes now looked like this when you wake up?

Panera Has Some of the Healthiest Fast Food and You Should Probably Be Eating It

Sometimes the trick to getting healthier and losing weight starts in very small ways; even the tiniest of changes in your habits can lead to drastic success. Author Matthew Kelly once said, "If a plane from London to New York changes its direction just five degrees south, it will end up in Venezuela." Keep that idea in mind the next time you're heading for a fast food lunch!

Let's start with one small change: opt for something more nutritious at Panera, in lieu of your usual sandwich or pastry. Although a big-box fast casual restaurant, Panera offers the kind of ingredients and plates that are often seen at the likes of high-end health food cafes. And while a trip to Panera rarely beckons a salad order (Hello! There are fresh-baked breads here!), it's got a variety of health-conscious menus (including sodium- and gluten-sensitive) and "clean pairings," meaning there are mindful, healthful options on offer, en masse. And unlike those high-end cafes, these healthy choices are pretty darn affordable.

3 Short (and Easy) Meditations That Are Designed to Help You Lose Weight

There's no one right path to weight loss. Some people respond well to a completely different diet, while others do better with a new fitness routine. Adopting a meditative practice might be a supplemental weight-loss tool that works for you, and you'll never know until you've tried it yourself. Mindfulness may not sound like something that promotes weight loss, but it's the very thing that will give you a clear mind and the strength you need to make healthy choices, day in and day out.

Kimberly Snyder, nutritionist and multitime New York Times bestselling author, has worked with countless people to help them reach their weight-loss goals. She has found that meditation can play a very significant role in this process of losing weight. She told POPSUGAR that meditation can help you "ground down and feel connected back to yourself, via your breath, so that you are less susceptible to the ups and downs of the distractions and fads of the outside world, and more in tune with what your body needs and how you can best nurture yourself."

The many emotions you experience when you overeat can be managed more efficiently when your mind is in a good place, and meditating on a regular basis can help you get there. Here are three different meditations you can do anytime, anywhere.

Meditation to Prevent Yo-Yo Dieting

"We live in a noisy world with a lot of comparison on social media and pretty much everywhere that infiltrates your world every day and can make you feel like you are caught in a whirlwind of looking this way then that way," Kimberly told POPSUGAR. Rather than getting caught up in the madness and being pulled from one diet to the next, this grounding meditation will bring you back to yourself and help you focus on your own goals, regardless of what people around you are doing.

  • Sit with your feet flat on the floor or in a comfortable cross-legged position. Make sure your spine is straight. Keep your chin parallel to the floor, and close your eyes.
  • Place your left hand on your belly and your right hand on your heart.
  • Take a few slow deep breaths in and out. "Tune in and imagine you are inhaling from your heart down to your belly, then your belly up to your heart, connecting the two points," Kimberly instructed.
  • After 10 cycles of breath, release your hands down to your thighs, but continue to breathe in the same way, slowly and deeply.
  • "Finish by once again taking your left hand to your belly and your right hand to your heart, feeling connected to yourself and your own needs," Kimberly said.

Meditation to Reduce Stress Eating

When your life is going a million miles a minute, it's easy to reach for fatty foods that give you temporary comfort. "It's the fat component in the food that makes you feel heavy, grounded, and gives you a false sense of stability when dealing with all the pressures of day-to-day life," Kimberly explained. "This meditation can help you release stress and feel nourished on levels that cannot be fulfilled by food."

  • Sit with your feet flat on the floor or in a comfortable cross-legged position. Make sure your spine is straight. Keep your chin parallel to the floor, and close your eyes.
  • Take a few deep breaths in and out through your nose. Feel your belly rise and fall with each breath. "As you exhale, imagine stress releasing with each breath, exiting your entire body," Kimberly said.
  • "Begin to slowly take a mental scan of your body, starting with the crown of your head going all the way through to your feet." Actively decide to release tension with each body part you think of.
  • Bring your attention to the space between your eyebrows, and take a few more deep, slow breaths. "Feel a sensation of peace and relaxation spreading through your being. Know that you can return to this space anytime you'd like."

Meditation to Combat Emotional Eating

"Your emotions affect your nervous system, and your body can respond by holding onto fatty elements to help protect your nervous system," Kimberly said. "Emotions have a profound impact on your physical body." This particular meditative practice helps you calm your nervous system and adrenal glands, helping you lower anxiety and giving you more control over your emotions.

  • Sit with your feet flat on the floor or in a comfortable cross-legged position. Make sure your spine is straight. Keep your chin parallel to the floor, and close your eyes.
  • Put your hands on your thighs with your palms facing upward.
  • Take some deep breaths. As you inhale, curl your fingers inward and open your hands slowly with each exhale. "After a few moments, keep taking deep breaths but let your hands be still, and focus on the feeling of 'aliveness' flowing through your whole body," Kimberly said.
  • Imagine there is a lively energy (also known as chi) flowing from the top of your head to the rest of your organs, "consciously healing and rejuvenating each cell in your body."
  • After a few moments of slow breaths, bring your hands together in front of your heart and send out some gratitude.

This Insidious, 20-Year-Old Rule Is Still Blocking Crucial Research on Gun Violence Today

The horrific mass shooting that killed more than 58 people in Las Vegas on Oct. 1 has brought the topic of gun control legislation – and America's severe lack of it – back to the forefront of our national conversation once more. 273 mass shootings have taken place in the US during 2017 (so far), and yet Americans find it's still mind-bogglingly difficult to even have a fact-based discussion on the topic. This is largely because of one incredibly problematic rule: the Dickey Amendment.

Named after its writer, republican Rep. Jay Dickey, the Dickey Amendment has a pretty depraved origin story. After a 1993 study conducted by the Center for Disease Control's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) found that keeping guns in the home made people less safe and strongly correlated with higher rates of homicide in the home, the National Rifle Association (NRA) pulled out all the stops to squash the NCIPC altogether. While the NRA was unsuccessful in their campaign to fully eliminate the NCIPC, they were able to heavily influence Congress with the help of a boatload of money. According to the American Psychological Association, after much campaigning from the NRA, Congress included a directive in its 1997 appropriations bill banning the CDC from using funds for research "used to advocate or promote gun control." Congress also moved to strip the amount of money the CDC had used to research gun risk the previous year from its budget and dedicate it to the research of traumatic brain injury instead.

While the CDC isn't explicitly banned from researching gun violence, the rule still restricts researchers from specifically examining the public health risks associated with gun ownership and use, something that the medical community continues to push back against. The American College of Physicians has said that "firearm violence is not only a criminal justice issue but also a public health threat" and the American Medical Association has called the uncontrolled ownership and use of firearms "a serious threat to public health."

Interestingly, it appears that even the author of the Dickey amendment has had a change of heart, later joining the medical community in supporting further research on the issue. In an editorial Dickey co-wrote for The Washington Post in 2012 with the former president of the NCIPC, Mark Rosenberg, the pair expressed their frustration that scientists still cannot answer "whether having more citizens carry guns would decrease or increase firearm deaths" as a result of the NRA's meddling in Congress. Dickey wrote that we "must learn what we can do to save lives."

While it's heartening that at least one individual has seen the light on this crucial issue, we simply must do more to put an end to the seemingly endless bloodshed and heartbreak caused by mass shootings in America - allowing scientists to conduct research surrounding mass shootings and gun violence seems like a great place to start. We can all urge our elected representatives to push for the Dickey amendment to be lifted and make sensible gun reform a reality. Learn how you can reach your representatives here.

Watch Donald Trump Jr. Pitch Silencers to Get More Kids Into Guns In 2016 Video

Less than six weeks before the 2016 election, SilencerCo, a company which manufactures gun supressers, posted a longform interview with Donald Trump Jr. to their YouTube channel. At nearly 40 minutes, it's a complete slog to listen to – but the message is abundantly clear. "I love your product," Trump Jr. tells the company's CEO, Joshua Waldron, at the very beginning, and he does not waver from that stance one bit. "There is nothing bad about it at all," he says. "It makes total sense, it's where we should be going."

In the wake of the deadliest shooting in modern American history, which left 59 dead and more than 500 wounded, Hillary Clinton pointed to the fact that the legalization of silencers could've made the devastation far worse. "The crowd fled at the sound of gunshots," she wrote on Twitter. "Imagine the deaths if the shooter had a silencer, which the NRA wants to make easier to get." While the statement may not be 100% accurate – several outlets have argued that it wouldn't have made a difference – it was enough to cause the House of Representatives to delay an NRA-backed bill that would make silencers legal. That's not to say that it won't surface later this year and frankly, it's entirely possible that it will – but it does raise a very important question: in this current climate, do we really need silencers to be introduced to the already deadly mix?

For Trump Jr., silencers would help make guns more appealing to young people, to kids who might otherwise be injured by both the sound and recoil of a gunshot. In the SilencerCo video, he repeatedly cites his own hearing damage as something that could have been avoided had he been allowed to legally use a silencer. "It's about safety. It's about hearing protection," he says in the interview, adding, "It's a health issue, frankly, for me. You know? Getting little kids into the game, it greatly reduces recoil. I mean, it's just a great instrument."

Below, we've queued up the video to the spot where Donald Trump Jr. talks about his specific feelings about silencers as a selling point for kids. And perhaps it will serve as a reminder that above all the Trumps strive to sell products, to make money, to get what they want – no matter what it is they're advocating for, be it on about shoes or golf courses or a policy that could alter the course of millions of American lives.

Here's How the New Cookie Butter Oreos REALLY Taste

We nearly fell out of our chairs when the news of Cookie Butter Oreos broke, and the day has finally come: the new flavor is out! We don't always have high expectations for Oreo's wacky inventions (ahem, remember Swedish Fish Oreos?), but we can't say the same for these - we needed them to be as delicious as they sound. After all, what could be bad about combining two of the best sweets on earth, Oreo cookies and smooth, spiced cookie butter?

The Oreo-creating gods must have heard our pleas, because damn . . . these are good. Really, really good. The Oreos are made with a graham-flavored cookie and a cookie-butter-flavored creme, a combination that's not insanely sweet and tastes oddly comforting. The cookie butter filling doesn't taste as cinnamon-y as we were anticipating, but hints of the Biscoff-like flavor are undeniably there. What's even better is the filling isn't just straight-up cookie butter smeared on the cookies; it's somehow combined with Oreo's original vanilla creme, so you get the best of both worlds. It's like a satisfying upgrade to the standard Golden Oreos, and it's perfect for those who prefer nonchocolate Oreos. If all of this sounds like snack heaven to you, we can confirm it's totally worth your time to pick up a batch of this limited-edition flavor before it disappears from shelves.

Honestly, as someone who's tried countless Oreo flavors in the name of important food writing, I rarely feel like going back for a second Oreo. But keeping the Cookie Butter Oreo package on my desk is definitely going to be a problem.

Miley Cyrus Covers Tom Petty's "Wildflowers" - and It's Totally Breathtaking

Tom Petty passed away at the age of 66 this week, and one of his celebrity fans, Miley Cyrus, paid tribute to the late music legend with a breathtaking cover of his 1994 hit "Wildflowers" from the album of the same name. 12 Big Details We Have About Stranger Things Season 2

This post has been updated with new information.

If you watched and loved Netflix's sci-fi megahit Stranger Things, we've got good news and bad news. The good news is that season two is right around the corner, and Netflix recently released the trailer that gives us a few clues about what's next. The bad news is that the Duffer Brothers, who created the show, also pretty much confirmed the tragic fate of Barb, the darling outcast whom countless viewers fell in love with despite her not-so-ample screen time. While you patiently wait for Oct. 27, listen to the show's '80s-tastic soundtrack and check out all of the details we know so far below.

  • Eleven will be back: Though her fate was questionable at the end of the first season, Millie Bobby Brown is returning as Eleven. Whether she'll still foster an obsession with waffles is questionable.
  • There will be new faces: Producer Shawn Levy spoke to SlashFilm about the fate of season two, and what they hope to accomplish. "We definitely are hopeful to go several more seasons. And the plan is to continue with this set of characters while introducing a few critical key new ones next season," he said. "So I'll just say that a lot of the big mysteries get answered at the end of season one, but we are very much kind of unearthing new problems and questions that merit future stories and future investigation in the most enjoyable way. So we are in love with our cast and our characters."
  • Brenner will likely be back: Matt Duffer said, "I would say that if we were going to kill Brenner . . . as an audience member watching the show, if that was his death, that would be very unsatisfying to me, when the monster jumps on him and we cut away. He would deserve much more than that as an ending. So yes, there's a possibility of seeing him again."

  • A few new characters have been announced! According to THR, three new characters have joined the fold. There's Max, a "tough and confident 13-year-old female whose appearance, behavior and pursuits are more typical of boys than of girls in the era." She's great with a skateboard. There's Billy, a "supermuscular, overconfident 17-year-old. He's so captivating and edgy that there are rumors flying around that he killed someone at a school he attended in the past." And finally, there's Roman, a "male or a female of any ethnicity between the ages of 30 and 38." In October, two new casting additions were announced. Dacre Montgomery, pictured here, will play Billy, and Sadie Sink will play Max. Both of the characters have been listed above as newcomers in Hawkins.
  • Matt Duffer on whether Barb will be in season two: "I can't see it happening . . . but Barb will not be forgotten. We'll make sure there's some justice for Barb. People get very frustrated, understandably, that the town doesn't seem to be really dealing with Barb. That stuff is all happening. We're just not spending any screen time on it."
  • On what else season two would tackle: "Part of what we want to do with hypothetical season two is to explore the repercussions of everything that happened," said Duffer. Gaten Matarazzo opened up to Emmy Magazine about his role next season, as well: "You're going to see a lot more into the lives of how the characters are coping with what's been going on ... They're all very emotionally scarred. They feel alone because their best friend is back and he's not acting like their best friend anymore. He's changed."
  • More nitty-gritty details: It will be set in 1984 (picking up sometime in the Fall, which is about a year after the events in season one) and consist of nine episodes. According to a recent press release from Netflix, "the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the demagorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived." Oh boy.
  • The premiere date: According to a teaser that ran during the Super Bowl, season two was initially supposed to premiere on Halloween. Now the date has been slightly pushed up to Oct. 27!
  • The first season two teaser: Clocking in at just under a minute long, the short video doesn't give us much. What it does do, though, is reveal the names of each episode in the new season: "Mad Max," "The Boy Who Came Back to Life," "The Pumpkin Patch," "The Palace," "The Storm," "The Pollywog," "The Secret Cabin," "The Brain," and "The Lost Brother."
  • The season two poster: Something wicked this way comes to Hawkins, IN.

Everything You Need to Know About the TV Adaptation of Sweetbitter

Starz, the home of Outlander and The Girlfriend Experience, is developing your next TV obsession: Sweetbitter. The network announced on July 31 that it is working on a half-hour drama adaptation of this 2016 bestselling novel, so here's everything you need to know about the project so far.

1. It's based on a bestselling book.

Sweetbitter is based on Stephanie Danler's novel of the same name, which NPR named one of the best books of 2016. The book follows the life of 22-year-old Tess, who moves to New York from Ohio and begins working at a renowned downtown restaurant, which leads her to a life of drugs, alcohol, love, dive bars, and fine dining.

2. It is inspired by Danler's own story.

Danler wrote her novel while waitressing at Union Square Care and attending The New School for her MFA, so she very much drew on her own experiences, though Tess is not a carbon copy of the author. Danler told NPR that while she does have a lot in common with Tess, "[Tess] quickly became a character, and is in many ways much better and much worse at life than I was at that age."

She also told told The Paris Review that Tess is actually more like the young women she saw working at her restaurants than herself, though Tess is also a lot like Danler "in some ways," like trying to find a new life in New York.

3. It's part sexual awakening.

In the novel, Tess is caught in an affair with a bartender named Jake. "Sex is the undercurrent of the whole book, because what we're really investigating is Tess's appetites across the board," Danler told NPR in the same interview mentioned above. "And also her becoming more of a woman, this transition from girlhood to womanhood."

4. The show has big names behind it.

Danler is writing the pilot script and also serving as executive producer, but helping her in this first foray into television is veteran Stu Zicherman, who has been a writer and either a consulting producer or executive producer on Six Degrees, Lights Out, The Americans, and The Affair. An even bigger name is behind it: Brad Pitt is among the executive producers.

5. It will be a half hour show with six episodes.

Starz gave Sweetbitter a straight-to-series order with six half-hour episodes in early October.

At this point, there are no casting announcements to share, though we can expect those to roll out over the next several months, as Starz's CEO also said in the series order announcement, "We look forward to announcing our Tess, Jake, Simone and Howard soon." There is also no timeline for a release yet.

Are You Taking Probiotics the Wrong Way? A Dietitian Weighs In

Gut health is incredibly important, so many people turn to probiotics to keep their stomachs healthy. Probiotics contain the same bacteria found in the digestive tract, and when stress, diet, or medications throw your system out of whack, taking them can help restore the balance.

While you can get probiotics from foods such as kombucha, yogurt, miso, and sauerkraut, many people turn to supplements to ensure they're getting enough consistently.

I just assumed taking them on an empty stomach would be the best, since it would allow those little healthy bacteria to make their way through my digestive tract without any interference. But on both labels of the two kinds I have, the directions say, "May be taken with or without food." So is it better to take them before, during, or after meals? Is one more effective than the other?

As far as taking probiotics on an empty stomach, some experts believe you should. Culinary nutritionist Amie Valpone, HHC, AADP, suggests you "take probiotics on an empty stomach, so they don't ferment with the foods [you're] eating." Taking them first thing in the morning is definitely a great way to remember to take them. Not everyone agrees, though. Certified dietitian Leslie Langevin, MS, RD, CD, of Whole Health Nutrition, says that's because the pH in the stomach is too acidic and could destroy the bacteria. Eating increases the pH and decreases the acidity.

A 2011 study tested taking probiotics with oatmeal and milk, with milk alone, with apple juice, and with spring water. The verdict? Thirty minutes before or when starting a meal (oatmeal with milk) was found to increase probiotic absorption. Another thing the study noted was that absorption also improved when the meal contained some fats, in this case one percent milk, so Leslie suggests taking probiotics with a meal, drink, or snack that contains fat.

Since experts are not in agreement on the best time to take probiotics, do a little experiment on yourself. Try a week or two taking your capsules with food and then a week or two without. Make note of how you feel, and continue doing what works best for your body.

Snapchat's New Filters Turn the Sky Into Stunning Masterpieces

Say goodbye to those cliched Snaps of sunsets and cloudless skies: with Snapchat's new sky filters, you can add a rainbow, make it a starry night, or create a beautiful sunset on any photo you take. The new feature is yet another example of the company being innovative in using augmented reality to enhance your everyday world.

To use the new filters, just take a photo that includes the sky. Snapchat will automatically detect the photo has the sky in the background and will let you swipe through to find a sky filter. You can expect to first see filters like a starry night or stormy clouds, but just like the 3D Bitmoji, these will change daily. The feature started rolling out to iOS and Android users on Sept. 25.

Unlike 3D World Lenses, you don't need to tap the screen to activate the filters - they just show up, like how the altitude, speed, time, and geofilters already do. Ahead, see some of the filters we've been able to play around with, then give them a try on your phone.

The 7 Best Vegan Items From Trader Joe's, According to an Employee

Image Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Anna Monette Roberts

We came across a very exciting, vegan-focused "Ask Me Anything" this morning: the Reddit "I Work at Trader Joe's AMA," in which the Reddit user and Trader Joe's employee AyeAyeMatee (very much on theme with the Trader Joe's nautical and tropical vibes) identified as vegan and noted that they've "worked at Trader Joe's for a few years now" and have answers to "everyone's questions about the infamous grocery store!"

While we have our own favorite vegan foods at Trader Joe's, we were excited to hear what an insider thinks of the offerings. Here are the picks that the employee lists as their favorite foods:

  • Frozen Vegetable Fried Rice . . . The post led with the OP's favorite frozen food: the vegetable fried rice. It's one of our favorites, too!
  • . . . with the Green Dragon Hot Sauce. The fried rice dish just wouldn't be complete without a (totally plant-based) delicious hot sauce. The Green Dragon from TJ's is not only a crowd favorite, but an employee favorite as well.
  • Strawberry Chia Smoothie Drink. The Trader Joe's employee listed the Strawberry Chia Smoothie as one of their favorites, and it sounds so delicious!

  • Gelatin-Free Marshmallows. "The marshmallows are the best!" said the TJ's employee. "Most marshmallows that are marketed 'vegan' are very expensive, at least $5 a bag, and TJs are around $1.99-2.99."
  • Peanut Butter Pretzels. A Reddit user noted that the Trader Joe's PB pretzels were a great vegan option, and the employee concurred. "Peanut butter pretzels are great too! If you haven't tried the gluten-free pretzels, they are my favorite type of pretzel now! They're so crunchy!"
  • Speculoos Cookies In need of a dairy-free, egg-free sweet treat? The Speculoos Cookies are fantastic, even if you're not vegan.
  • Sriracha Chips. Not necessarily a health food, but a delicious vegan snack nonetheless!

The Documentary Evan Peters Watched That Inspired His Blood-Chilling AHS Character

Evan Peters's character on American Horror Story: Cult is probably the most terrifying one we've seen out of all of his work on the show's seven seasons. The actor plays Kai Anderson, a dedicated Donald Trump supporter who forms a cult of killer clowns in the months following the 2016 presidential election. While Kai has help terrorizing their Michigan town from his sister, Winter, and brother, Dr. Rudy Vincent, Kai seems to be a mastermind behind all the bloody madness.

Peters recently opened up about how exactly he prepared for the role, which he ranks "No. 1" out of all the characters he's played. "I read a lot of books," he told Entertainment Weekly. "I read Seductive Poison, which is about a survivor of the Jonestown Massacre. I read Combatting Cult Mind Control, which is a great book to help people get out of cults. I read a great book called The Art of Seduction. I watched as many documentaries as I could on cults - a great one to watch is Holy Hell on Netflix."

Since we can't get enough of Netflix's signature documentary style, especially when it comes to true crime, Holy Hell immediately piqued our interest. The 2016 film was made by Will Allen and is about his experiences as a member of the Buddhafield cult for 23 years. The "spiritual group," whose mysterious leader is referred to as Michel, began in LA before moving to Texas and finally settling in Hawaii, where it remains active to this day. Allen served as the cult's videographer, so the documentary is compiled of footage he shot throughout his time there. With Halloween right around the corner, we can't think of a better time to lock ourselves in and watch this.

The Truth About Toby's Fat Suit on This Is Us

On This Is Us, each character has their own relatable struggles. Kevin (Justin Hartley) is trying to make it big in his career, Randall (Sterling K. Brown) struggles to cope with his anxiety, and much of Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Toby's (Chris Sullivan) story is focused on their battle with losing weight. While Metz has been very open about weight loss and body positivity during interviews, we can't help but notice that Sullivan looks drastically different off screen. Did he shed some major pounds in between filming? Is it all part of his character's upcoming story line? Not exactly.

During an interview with Us Weekly, Sullivan's costar Susan Kelechi Watson, who plays Beth, revealed that he actually wears a fat suit for the role. Naturally, the costume choice has caused mixed emotions, with a lot of people feeling like it doesn't properly represent plus-size actors. While his onscreen love interest Metz totally gets it, she argued that at the end of the day, Sullivan was just the best fit for the role. "People think the authenticity is kind of ruined by [that decision to cast Sullivan], but Chris has been heavier and I think he does understand the plight of being overweight," she said on Watch What Happens Live. "He was the best man for the job. People wear prosthetics all the time. This just happens to be weight, as opposed to a nose or a chin."

No Tricks Here! Treat Yourself to Healthier, Vegan Snickers

How Hillary Clinton Wanted to Change America's Gun Laws

When Hillary Clinton's new book What Happened hit Audible's digital shelves, I was quick to download. I knew I wanted to hear her story and have her answer the question that titles her book, but I found the reading (or rather, listening) process tough. Just as the US election result made many feel volatile and unsafe, going over what could have been and what is - and realizing that racial and gender equality are moving in the wrong direction - is just as unsettling.

This feeling was especially prevalent when I reached the chapter on Clinton's gun-safety policies. After a day of horrible, heartbreaking details from the Las Vegas shooting, I listened as Clinton narrated a section of the book on the urgency of reforming America's gun laws, and her frustration and sheer bewilderment at the power of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the senators who support it. Her words could have been written as a reaction to the Las Vegas shooting, but they were from her campaign, and I couldn't help but think how different that music festival in Las Vegas could have been if she had been given the platform to carry out her agenda.

We obviously can't know for sure what would have happened had Hillary been elected, and thinking "what if" isn't always particularly helpful - but at a time like this, it's interesting to revisit the gun policies she did put forward during her 2016 presidential campaign.

She Didn't Want to "Ban Guns"

Despite being repeatedly accused by the Republican party of wanting to "ban guns" - something that's apparently blasphemous in the US, even though it's been effective in other countries, including Australia - the Clinton campaign insisted she had no intention to do so. Her messaging was all about a) making sure dangerous people didn't have access to guns and b) stopping Americans from being shot. She had the support of the Mothers of the Movement organization, which campaigned for her, and had a strong focus on saving young African-American men for whom gun violence is the number one killer.

She Wanted to Pass Common-Sense Laws to Make It Harder to Buy Guns

The Clinton party promised to strengthen background checks and close loopholes allowing for easier sales at gun shows and online. She specifically wanted to abolish the Charleston Loophole, which allows guns to be sold without an FBI-approved background check if it takes more than three days for the check to be returned.

She Wanted to Keep Military-Grade Guns Off the Streets

The NRA has made it easier for the public to access guns with even more power. Congress shelved a bill that would make it easier to buy a silencer without a background check shortly after the Vegas shooting, but it's just one example. Clinton was completely against this and wanted to hold companies that sell weapons accountable for the damage their products cause.

She Wanted to Keep Guns Out of the Hands of Domestic Abusers, Violent Criminals, and Those With Severe Mental Illness

You can be on the no-fly list in America, but you'll still be allowed to buy a gun. Clinton fought to stop these kinds of allowances and wanted to make it a federal crime for someone to buy a gun without passing a stricter screening process.

She Wanted Military Suppliers to Be Held Accountable For Their Products

In 2005, a law was passed that protects gun companies from being sued when their products cause injury or take lives. When campaigning, Clinton vowed to overturn this immunity.

What You Need to Know About Ryan Gosling's Blade Runner Love Interest, Ana de Armas

The long-awaited sequel to 1982's Blade Runner officially hits theaters on Oct. 6, and we could not be any more excited. Not only does Blade Runner 2049's storyline take place three decades after the events of the first film, but it also stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Jared Leto, Robin Wright, and rising star Ana de Armas. Armas stars as Joi, Gosling's (LAPD Officer K) love interest, and while Blade Runner 2049 may be her first major movie role, the 29-year-old Cuban actress has actually been busy building her résumé since 2006.

Armas has starred in a handful of Spanish TV shows and appeared in a number of films like Knock Knock, Hands of Stone, and War Dogs. In fact, that's one of the main reasons producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson cast her in the film. "We think Ana is one of the most exciting, up-and-coming international actors in the world today, and we are thrilled she will be playing such an important part in this sequel," they told The Hollywood Reporter in April 2016.

While not much else is known about her character in the sci-fi film, you'll be seeing more of Armas pretty soon. The actress was recently cast in Andrea Di Stefano's upcoming film, Three Seconds, which is based on the Swedish novel by Anders Roslund and Börge Hellström. Armas will star alongside Rosamund Pike, Common, and Clive Owen, and the action thriller is slated to hit theaters in 2018.

Your New Favorite Way to Enjoy Sweet Potatoes

Of Course Sarah Paulson Is the First Cast Member to Join American Horror Story Season 8

American Horror Story: Cult still has many mysteries to unravel, but lest we forget, there are already two more seasons of American Horror Story that have been greenlit. While not much is known about season eight, we do know one thing: its first cast member. Fittingly, it's Sarah Paulson, who was recently profiled in AdWeek, where it's casually mentioned that she has season eight to look forward to in 2018. It's reported that she will also appear in three movies next year, in addition to working on the currently theme-less eighth season: films Ocean's Eight, The Post, and Glass.

Why This Woman Wants You to Rethink Those "Begging" Gym Selfies ASAP

As Clare works both physically and mentally to love her body, she knows that she has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of and wants the world to see it. However, this 25-year-old also realizes that the conversation around "body positive exercise" needs to change.

This strong woman isn't afraid to show off her physique after a workout, but she wants others to reevaluate why they feel the need to create displays of body confidence at the gym. "Don't get me wrong, seeing women with bodies like mine – proud and sweaty and capable and strong – has been a profound (if not essential) component of my own journey through recovery," she wrote on Instagram with a photo that's been "liked" over 3,900 times.

However, when Clare stops to think about the gym selfies she's posted, it makes her see things differently. "I start to question the extent to which most of them are still stuck on 'performing' the act of 'health and fitness – putting my acts of physical activity on display as if I owe the world some sort of public record of my 'commitment to movement' in order to be considered valid," she wrote. "What this really is then is little more than an act of begging."

Clare knows that lifting up her shirt and showing the world her "unconventional body" is still active and healthy helps to demolish the stereotype that "fat bodies are lazy and undisciplined," however she wants to draw attention the other side to these photos. "In many ways, this action still REINFORCES the normative expectation that fat bodies NEED TO CONSTANTLY BE PROVING WHY THE WORLD SHOULD 'TOLERATE' US," she wrote.

No matter your body type, Clare wants to show what can happen unintentionally when people feel the need to socially flaunt their workouts. "[They are] attaching value to bodies that 'prioritize fitness' and thereby excluding those with disabilities and health conditions … from access to that same respect," she wrote. "It's worth interrogating these types of actions with a little more of a critical eye – keeping in mind that what we want is not acceptance into a culture that enslaves us, but the total eradication of that culture period."

Every Time You Pee, Do These 3 Things to Help You Lose Weight

Quick fixes usually don't cut it when it comes to losing weight and getting toned, but this one-minute trick actually works! Take into consideration this little fact: the average woman pees six to eight times in a 24-hour period, so that's about five to seven times while you're awake. And if you have issues with your bladder (thank you, pregnancy!) or you drink a ton of water each day, your ladies' room visits are more like 10 times a day.

So this means you have six to 10 opportunities to fit in a little fitness. Every time you hit the bathroom, whether it's to pee or touch up your lipstick, do the workout below that should take about one minute.

The Workout: Complete once
10 push-ups (lower the knees if you need to)
10 squats
10 alternating forward lunges (five per side)

If you're using a public bathroom, do not get on the floor to do your push-ups! Just lean your hands on the counter, then after your lunges, you can wash your hands. Maybe you can even get some of your co-workers to do it with you! If the bathroom you're using is so public that you feel weird doing this mini workout in front of anyone, find a spot somewhere else where you can pump out this one-minute bodyweight workout without feeling self-conscious. But do it immediately after leaving the bathroom. If you wait, you're more likely to forget.

So let's say you use the bathroom six times in a day. That adds up to 60 push-ups, 60 squats, and 60 alternating lunges. That's a pretty decent workout for not hitting the gym, because remember - every minute of exercise counts!

PSA: You've Been Doing Kettlebell Swings All Wrong

Chances are you've done kettlebell swings at some point, whether it's in a group fitness class, with a personal trainer, or during a workout you created for yourself. It's a popular movement that many people are adopting these days to get stronger and improve their overall fitness level. Kettlebell swings aren't as easy as they might seem, though, and it's common to see people perform this exercise with the wrong form. Think of this as your kettlebell swing crash course.

Austin Lopez, CSCS and owner of Ausome Fit, told POPSUGAR that there are two types of kettlebell swings: American and Russian. The former go overhead while the latter don't go above the shoulders.

"Both are hip-drive movements," Lopez said. "The back should not really be working in the swings because the abs are braced and legs are driving the hip motion."

According to Lopez, the most common (and dangerous) mistake he sees is people who "don't brace [their abs] enough." If your abs aren't engaged, you run the risk of hurting your back. The second most common mistake Lopez witnesses is people not driving their hips all the way forward. "You aren't getting the most out of your swing this way and it could result in injury at heavier weights," he said.

When it comes to American kettlebell swings, which go overhead, Lopez told POPSUGAR that this requires much more shoulder mobility. "Make sure you are rolling out the muscles around the shoulder before throwing yourself into heavy [weights]," he advised. "Otherwise, make sure the shoulders are pulled back so they don't pull the back into a rounded down position."

It's a lot to think about, which means you shouldn't be afraid to go back to basics with your kettlebell swings. Choose a light weight to start, and don't move on until you've perfected your form. The most important thing to remember is that the movement doesn't come from your arms, back, or your shoulders. It's all about engaging your core muscles and driving your hips forward, all the while keeping your back straight.

Once you get the form right, you'll start to reap all the benefits kettlebell swings have to offer.

Hillary Clinton's Response to Trump's "Crooked Hillary" Tweet Is the Ultimate Mic Drop

You guys didn't actually think Hillary Clinton would be able to release her latest book in peace without some sort of snide comments about it from Donald Trump, now did you? Just one day after Clinton's memoir, What Happened, became available to the public, POTUS used his favorite method of communication (Twitter, naturally) to revive the "Crooked Hillary" nickname and mock her election loss, which is a main topic in the memoir.

But rather than sit back and allow his criticism to go unnoticed, Clinton fired back with a witty, oh-so-perfect suggestion.

What a burn! On the surface, her response is certainly sassy, but it's about 10 times sassier once you take a closer look and realize that she shared a photo of the new children's version of her bestselling 1996 book - a version that's filled with illustrated pictures aimed at preschool-level kids. Damn, Hillz. We see you! And the rest of the internet certainly took note of her mic-drop-worthy comeback as well.

The Wine-Mom Phenomenon: We Drink to Celebrate, Not to Cope

My potty-training 2-year-old had decided he wanted to wage a war against his mother. He used his own sh*t against me by unloading in his pull-up at naptime. He had a talent - he could just keep creating turds at will. Then he'd take his diaper off in the crib.

The newborn wasn't having it, either. She kept persisting that, indeed, life was better inside of her mother's womb. At our family witching hour, the oven clock read 6:03. I had 30 minutes to keep the children alive, but this solo general was getting beat by her own troops.

This day was admittedly overwhelming. All moms have days like these; it's nothing new. When my husband breezed through the door, my 2-year-old ran to him as he always does. I then handed over the swaddled baby baton. So long, suckers.

I pretended that we needed a few items from the grocery store, and I was out. But what I didn't reach for in the store or even later that night? Wine.

I do not know how this wine-mom phenomenon exploded into fragments, landing as memes on our Facebook pages. Yes, many women love wine. I know I do. In Michigan, for example, a group of friends and I go on an annual wine tour surrounding Caribbean-blue lakes. But this can't be our only anthem in motherhood.

We're more than moms who grab a bottle of wine to deal with our grubby-fingered, teething, won't-shut-up children. We don't just drink to cope.

We're more than moms who grab a bottle of wine to deal with our grubby-fingered, teething, won't-shut-up children.

At the end of a long day with a child who has a double ear infection, why would a mother want to chug wine . . . alone? She's tired. All she wants to do is escape or go to sleep in preparation for yet another long night ahead (plus, dealing with children while hungover is one of the worst parenting tactics that I've ever attempted. Do. Not. Do it).

But yes, many of the moms I know do indeed love alcohol. All types of alcohol, not just wine. I know I love a cold microbrew (or six) on a Summer day at the lake. In the Winter, I'll sip a rum and coke or a stiff mojito. We drink not to escape the blunders of our day with small children, but rather to socialize with our friends or partners and to celebrate the days when we're victorious.

My husband and I drink on the corner of our couch when things are good - when we know we won't be up every two hours. We celebrate the simplicity of our lives with, yes, maybe wine and a good Netflix show. We down the good stuff because we enjoy it - sometimes a little too much (we did meet in college, where alcohol was flowing frequently out of the dorm rooms).

Mothers also like to drink among other mothers. We drink to be a little bad again and maybe pretend we're still in our 20s. We put clothes on that cover our kangaroo pouches; that just might make us feel a little younger. We share our child-rearing horror stories and our mistakes. The cocktails often bring women together in a cathartic way: we admit that we feed our kids McDonald's, that our kid repeated a swear word, or that we haven't scrubbed the tub in well over two months.

We drink to celebrate each other - we're keeping tiny humans alive here. We toast with our partners on the day our kid pisses in the toilet for the first time. Yes, mothers drink wine, but it's not to simply cope. So, the next time my troops beat me at my own war, I'll grab my pillow, not my wine.
