Losing Weight Will Feel Easy If You Do These 4 Things

Whether you have five or 50 pounds to lose doesn't matter - losing weight is hard! But it doesn't have to be. Make your weight-loss journey easier and more enjoyable by following these four tips. Heck, you might even lose weight faster!

Drink Up

Keeping a water bottle nearby at all times is an absolute must because drinking a ton of water (it doesn't necessarily have to be a gallon!) fills you up, so you eat less. Drink at least eight ounces first thing in the morning (with a little lemon or grapefruit is great!), drink at least eight ounces every time you sit down to a meal, and also reach for water in between meals when you start feeling hungry for a snack. Dehydration symptoms like headaches and low energy can trick you into thinking you're hungry when all you really need is a few huge gulps of water. If you have a hard time remembering to drink throughout the day, set reminders on your phone.

Do This Type of Workout

Fitness instructor John Kersbergen said, "The most efficient way to get results is to do some form of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) that includes strength training for a total-body workout that burns fat and builds calorie-burning muscle." He added, "The whole workout including warmup doesn't need to be more than 45 minutes to be effective." And three to four times a week is enough. Try this 45-minute HIIT workout for weight loss.

Eat This Every Single Time You Eat

Certified dietitian Leslie Langevin, MS, RD, CD, of Whole Health Nutrition told POPSUGAR that fiber, healthy fats, and protein are the three essentials you need for every meal and at least two for every snack. Fiber fills you up, the healthy fats keep you feeling fuller longer, and protein sustains your energy. So every time you're about to eat, look at your food and make a mental checklist to ensure all three are present.

To get your fill of fiber (at least 25 grams a day) go for fresh fruit instead of juice, whole grains instead of refined and processed carbs, and lots of veggies. Avocado, nuts, seeds, and olive oil are great choices for healthy fats. And when eating your daily protein, choose beans, nuts and nut butters, lean meats, and dairy. Eating all three at every meal will fill you up faster so you eat less per meal, but your hunger will also be satiated longer, so you'll need to eat less throughout the day.

Trick Your Brain

When sitting down to eat, serve your food on salad plates and in kid-size bowls. This will force you to eat normal, appropriate portion sizes, but since the food will fill up the entire plate, it'll convince your brain that you're eating a huge meal. It works! This is a great trick for people who have a hard time not overeating.

All four of these changes may take a little time to get used to, but once you start incorporating them into your life, that's when they become a habit and when the results will start happening.

Low Weights, High Reps: Feel the Burn With These Arm Exercises

We all want those arms that don't flap in the wind when we're waving hello, right? These five exercises with light weights make it look easy, but the small isometric moves ensure you feel the burn. Grab your two- or three-pound dumbbells and get going, but don't worry if you don't have weights - you can even do them without for some excellent toning.

These Overwater Bungalows in Bora Bora Will Make You Want to Move to Paradise For Good

If you're looking for paradise, you won't be disappointed by French Polynesia, where the water is blue and the weather is warm all year-round. And those overwater bungalows we see on Pinterest and in our dreams exist at the Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora in the South Pacific.

With surreal tropical views at every turn, the resort offers 85 overwater bungalow suites and 15 overwater suites with their own plunge pools, all of which sit atop a turquoise lagoon. There are also seven beachfront villas across a semiprivate beach.

These luxurious accommodations, however, are probably not your best option for budget travel. It appears as though it can start from around XPF 107,917 (a little short of $1,000) for the one-bedroom beach-view overwater bungalow suite to a whopping XPF 1,706,500 (or about $15,000!) for a three-bedroom beachfront villa estate. Though extremely pricey, you do get the ultimate treatment. The first tier of accommodations spans 2,228 square feet (fitting up to six adults), featuring one king and two queen beds, two full sofa beds and a crib, one full bathroom, a sun deck, and unobstructed views of the lagoon. Each option, including this one, even comes with a personal suite assistant.

So why does the highest option cost $15,000? Well, the floor plan for one is ridiculous, to say the least. It's as big as 5,380 square feet and includes two king and queen beds, three full bathrooms, and a powder room, with stunning views of the beach, lagoon, and Mount Otemanu. Each villa sits on a secluded white-sand beach and has its own garden, swimming pool, whirlpool, hammock, and private outdoor dining options.

Bob Harper Shares All the Ways His Life Has Changed Following His Heart Attack

Image Source: Getty / Ray Tamarra

Bob Harper is known for his contagious energy, ruthless training tactics, and ability to transform contestants' bodies on The Biggest Loser, but when he suffered a heart attack in February, his life was flipped upside down. Now, Bob, who has recently partnered with Kohl's, is opening up about how much his life has changed, and spoiler alert, it's a lot, so much so that Bob has called it "a metamorphosis."

Workouts

Being someone who is known for pushing people and going as hard as he can in the gym, Bob has had to slow down his own exercise mentality in ways he never imagined.

"Everything's changed since my heart attack. It's like a metamorphosis; it's self-discovery," he told POPSUGAR. "I was always the CrossFit guy; I was the one that was working out in the gym, just to the point of falling on the ground. And now I'm not really approaching my fitness that way anymore. It feels new."

Bob went on to explain that he's easing his way back into a routine and is doing everything in moderation. He's staying away from lifting "crazy amounts of weight" in order to gain his strength back, and it's a journey that's beyond applause-worthy. And while Bob still loves CrossFit and still does the workouts, he's pulled back on the extreme exertion levels he was doing before his heart attack. He's even opening himself up to new workouts.

"I'm doing a lot of yoga now; I'm doing cycling classes; I'm going to start doing a little bit of running," Bob said. "I'm not needing it to be super explosive all the time."

Eating Habits

After his heart attack, Bob abandoned the Paleo lifestyle for the Mediterranean diet, as it's been proven to improve heart health and reduce the risk of a heart attack, stroke, and heart-disease-related death by about 30 percent. But recently, he's moved closer to a vegetarian regimen.

"I've found more balance works for me," Bob said in relation to his diet. "With my health, I have to be aware of fat [levels]. I eat a lot more vegetarian, [and] I've cut out a lot of animal protein." These days, his protein sources come from eggs, Greek yogurt, and the occasional seafood dish.

The celebrity trainer joked that his friends tell him he's "97 percent vegetarian" and he can't help but shrug his shoulders and agree.

As for snacks, his go-to snack these days is carrots and hummus, more specifically the drool-worthy jalapeño hummus from Whole Foods. He's also a sucker for the "forced portion control" of SkinnyPop Popcorn.

So. . . what about caffeine and alcohol?

For Bob, soda is undoubtedly "a big no" for him. But the mainstay that he had to cut out immediately was Bulletproof coffee, which he used to love. "It was just butter and fat," he said. On his new diet, watching fat intake is key, and it's something his doctors play a part in monitoring.

Not to worry: he's got a stand-in! Bob's a huge fan of LaCroix. Stars, they're just like us! The "addiction is really strong," and we can totally relate. "And I still like my wine," Bob shared; duh.

When Will The Biggest Loser return?

Bob is the first person who comes to mind when we think of The Biggest Loser, so we were itching to ask him about the show and if after 17 inspiring seasons we'd be getting more. He told us that there have been talks of The Biggest Loser coming back, but probably not anytime soon; "we just need to rest that show a little bit," he said.

This French Stroller Reveals How Parisian Women Think About Parenting Differently

The Yoyo+ stroller from BabyZen folds up so small, you can hang it up.

"You really should start saving for that new car," a saleswoman at a popular San Francisco baby gear store told us. My husband and I were there to check out strollers and needed one that would fit in the trunk of our Mazda 3 hatchback. As we took the floor models out to the parking lot to test them in our trunk, it became apparent that none of them would fit.

We let the saleswoman know we'd have to keep looking - and that's when she suggested that the issue wasn't the size of the strollers in her store but the size of our car. We simply needed a new car, she told us with an air of inevitability, since we soon would have a baby on board. Only problem: if we bought a new car, it wouldn't fit in the tight parking spot in our condo. Guess we'd have to start saving for a new house, too. All thanks to a stroller.

While many Americans opt for stroller SUVs, I think of the Yoyo+ as the Smart Car of strollers.

Because my husband is French, I know things don't have to be this way. While some of my American mom friends recommended the UppaBaby Vista for its all-terrain tires and smooth ride (again, am I buying a car or a stroller?), many Parisians take a different approach to infant transportation.

While spending some time in Paris this Summer, I couldn't help but notice the It accessory among young French parents: the Yoyo+ stroller from BabyZen, a French company. At six months pregnant, I suddenly started paying attention to what chic French women were pushing, instead of what they were wearing. Everywhere I looked, I spotted the Yoyo+, which stands out with its white wheels. Pointing them out to my husband soon became a running joke.

BabyZen has a showroom in Paris for its most popular line, the Yoyo+, which you'll see all over the streets of Paris.

While many Americans opt for stroller SUVs, I like to think of the Yoyo+ as the Smart Car of strollers. It does the trick. It's only 13 pounds, while the UppaBaby Vista weighs more than 26 pounds. Unlike typically flimsy umbrella strollers, it also takes an infant car seat. And it fits in the overhead bin on an airplane, meaning you don't have to gate-check it and can avoid buying both an everyday stroller and a travel stroller.

The company says since launching in the US in 2014, the Yoyo+ has become popular in urban areas like Brooklyn and Chicago, where parents want a stroller they can easily maneuver through city streets. And they're hopeful that suburban parents will soon recognize the convenience of having an easy-to-store, lightweight stroller.

Sure, the basket is tiny. But maybe that means French parents are less willing to let children - and their stuff - take over.

Sure, the Yoyo+ basket is tiny, which gives you less room to store your baby's sh*t. But maybe that means French parents are less willing to let children - and their stuff - take over. I've seen this with my French sister-in-law, who insists her two children put away all of their toys from the main living space before they go to bed each night so she and her husband can enjoy "adult time" in an adult-friendly space. The kids' belongings belong in the kids' rooms, not anywhere else. And that works, even in a relatively small apartment by American standards, because the kids don't have that much stuff to begin with.

Whether or not I opt for the Yoyo+ - which costs roughly $400 but can quickly add up to around $1,000 if you include all the features - I'm going to try my hardest to resist the "baby industrial complex." I will try to tune out the message that I need more space and more things just because I'm becoming a parent. This is my takeaway from all my stroller-spotting. I will hang on to my "impractical" hatchback and third-floor walk-up apartment as long as I can. And I certainly won't trade them in to make room for an oversize stroller.

Woman Explains How "a Piece of Her Dies" Everyday as a Mother in a Moving Post

Becoming a mother is an incredibly strange and unique experience. One minute you're childless, wearing tight clothes and sleeping in, and the next you're trying to get a glimpse of your toes over your stomach at 38 weeks pregnant. Before you know it, there's a child screaming and waking you up in the middle of the night, but that child is also the love of your life. One mom shared this "strange dichotomy" of motherhood in her own words - feelings many moms know far too well - in a post to Facebook.

Mary Katherine Backstrom, the voice behind the Mom Babble blog, did not hold back when she explained how each day as a mother "a piece of me dies."

"My son is in his high chair and I'm cleaning the floor and dishes," she wrote. "His arm magically transforms into a windshield wiper against the tray. Waffle and oranges fly across the room. Rising up inside of me is a piece of my heart that is angry and impatient. And then I catch my son's eyes - bright and bubbling with laughter - and that angry little piece of me dies."

Mary Katherine continues to go through the little moments in her life that have so drastically changed since becoming a mother. While she initially longs for her "skinnier, more fashionable" self, she sees her son in the Target family dressing room "and that bratty, self-deprecating piece of me dies."

"When nap time arrives and I'm soaking up the beautiful, coveted silence, a piece of my mind aches at the memory of quiet independence," she explained. "But then I think of his laughter . . . and the sound of his little feet, pitter-pattering across the tiles of our family home. And that rogue little ache, that selfish piece of me, quickly dies."

She goes on to explain how being a mother has changed her every single day and makes her "a better person every day."

Motherhood has such a strange dichotomy. It is life-giving and exhausting. It constantly exercises my faith, tests my patience, and stretches my heart. But, as a result, my faith and patience are stronger. My heart is bigger. And although sometimes I still reach the end of my rope, my rope is getting longer. It's true that every day I'm a mother, a little piece of me dies. But I will not mourn these losses.

Can We Discuss How Terrifying the Halloween Episode of Boy Meets World Is?

We all remember key moments in our childhood - big birthdays, first crushes, Summer vacations - but one thing that continuously stands out in my mind as a defining moment is the Scream-inspired episode of Boy Meets World, "And Then There Was Shawn." It first aired in February 1998 and wasn't even intended as a Halloween episode, but I didn't see it until one chilly Fall day in 2001. I had just gotten home from school, was all by myself, and was planning on doing my homework while watching the Disney Channel. But shortly after the episode began to play, I abandoned my homework and started closing all the curtains and locking all the doors. The storyline of a crazed psycho going on a killing spree in an abandoned school not only kept me up at night for weeks to come, but it also made me fear one of the places I always felt safe. I loved (and still love) the episode, but the combination of the intense horror music, the jump-out-of-your seat moments, and the creepy janitor will probably haunt my dreams for a very long time.

41 Back-of-the-Arm Tattoos They'll Notice as You're Walking Away

Wrist tattoos, forearm tattoos, bicep tattoos - there are so many options when it comes to where to position your arm tattoo. And there's one more place that's often literally overlooked: the back of the arm (or a triceps tattoo).

It's the perfect spot for a vertical image, like a single flower or an arrow, though there's also enough room to fit an inspiring message or small landscape. The back of the arm is a solid choice if your tattoo isn't the first thing you want people to notice when they meet you, but perhaps the last thing they'll see as you're walking away.

From the nun crying black tears in Asylum to the beehive-filled head in Cult, some of our favourite scary cast members have been re-created, straight out of our nightmares.

This year, there is one spooky character that keeps cropping up, and that's Twisty the Clown. I predict this to be 2017's Harley Quinn, so if you have a phobia of clowns, look away now.

All Food From Chinese Restaurants Contains MSG, and More Secrets Revealed by an Employee

If you've always wanted to know what really goes on inside a Chinese restaurant, you're in luck. A restaurant employee recently did a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) entitled Your Typical Chinese Restaurant Employee, and he answered a lot of users' questions that touched on everything except the exact recipes (some things have to remain a secret!). He wrote, "I am Chinese. Parents are Chinese. Parents own a typical take out Chinese food restaurant. I have worked there almost all my life and I know almost all the ins and outs." Curious about his insider secrets? Read on for some of the standout questions and answers, and then catch up on the whole AMA here.

1. The secret to authentic Chinese food is the sauce.

Someone mentioned that they try to make Chinese food at home but it's never nearly as good - not even "as good as the worst Chinese takeout." Turns out, the major difference is the sauce.

2. Using a wok makes a difference.

Another reason your homemade stir fries and lo mein might not taste authentic is that using a wok is far superior to a regular skillet. "The ability to flash cook in a wok makes a big difference believe it or not."

3. North American Chinese food is cheaper.

4. The secret to the chicken in dishes like General Tso's is the breading.

5. Yes, many restaurants really do use the same images for the menu.

6. Don't believe a restaurant if it says it doesn't have MSG . . . it's already in soy sauce and many other sauces.

7. The best thing to order is anything Mongolian style. At least, that's this guy's personal favorite.

8. The one thing you should NEVER order is . . . fries.

What Guests Really Notice in Your Home

If the idea of getting your home company-ready is keeping you from hosting a dinner party or even your out-of-town in-laws, we can help. Sure, you could spend all day cleaning and decorating in anticipation, but who has the time? Here are the only things you really need to do before your guests arrive. Don't worry - they are nothing but easy.

The Scent of Your Home

POPSUGAR Photography / Brinton Parker

Decor isn't the first thing guests notice when they walk through your door - it's the smell. Whether you're concerned about the fish you cooked the night before or your dog skipping a bath - or worse, the scents you've become noseblind to - put your mind at ease by lighting a candle or simmering a small pot of citrus peels and cinnamon sticks a half hour before guests arrive. We can't get enough of these yummy-smelling candles - all under $50.

A Well-Stocked Bar

Photo by Janae Hardy via A Beautiful Mess

After greeting guests, the first thing that you will want to do is offer them a drink. You don't need to be full service, but make sure you have the home bar basics covered.

Fresh Flowers

Flowers are the only decoration a house really ever needs, no matter the occasion (although we feel pretty strongly about candles too!). To get the most bang out of your buck, buy potted flowers like these orchids. They may look delicate, but with proper care, they will last for a month or longer.

The Lack of Clutter

Even if you don't have time to do a deep cleaning, you can still organize your clutter. Get a tray or a set of lidded boxes for each room and corral all the odds and ends - remotes, keys, mail - in one place. Guests will feel relaxed in a space that appears organized, even if it is just for show!

A Tidy Bathroom

Before guests arrive, make sure your bathroom has clean hand towels and enough toilet paper. Extra points for wiping down surfaces and lighting a candle!

An Organized Entryway

Photo by Dana Miller via House*Tweaking

Not only is it the first place and last place that your guests will see, your entryway is also where they will be dropping their coats and bags. Depending on how much room you have, add a coat rack, umbrella stand, and a place to sit while taking shoes on or off.

In 1997 Interview, Trump Joked About Giving Princess Diana an HIV Test

In the weeks before the 2016 election, it became clear that Donald Trump had little interest in backtracking the very, very many missteps of his past. From the myriad accusations of sexual misconduct to the jaw-dropping Access Hollywood tape, we got a good long look at the deeply inappropriate way in which now-President Trump behaved in the past. And while it seemed like there would be an endless stream of reveals throughout the course of his presidency, the media has remained largely silent when it comes to Trump's absurdly vocal past - that is, until now.

On Sept. 25, an anonymous source provided Factbase with recordings and transcripts of Trump's many interviews with Howard Stern. The two appear to be friends - or at the very least, acquaintances who sought each other out for publicity purposes - and the dozen or so appearances take place between 1993 and 2015, adding up to about 20 minutes of dialogue in total. From Beyoncé to Angelina Jolie to First Lady Melania Trump, Stern and Trump discuss women in terms that are impossible to listen to without feeling sick to your stomach - but there's one segment in particular that is so stunningly vile that it's almost impossible to wrap your head around the fact that the same person who said these things now holds the highest office in America. The 1997 interview on The Howard Stern Show is really a conversation between Trump and Stern and centers on Trump's sex life in relation to the late Princess Diana.

A portion of the interview is transcribed below, and two other individuals, Robin Quivers and Kate Bohner, were present at the time and have minimal dialogue throughout. Please note that "doctor" and "test" refer to a recurring theme in Trump's appearances - Trump's penchant for requiring his sexual partners tested for HIV before engaging with them - and it probably goes without saying, but the text is borderline NSFW.

Howard Stern "Why do people think it's egotistical of you to say that you've gotten Lady Di, right? You could've gotten her, right? You could've nailed her."
Robin Quivers "Yeah, but could you have sent her to the doctor?"
Donald Trump "Of course, I don't know, maybe that one, that was a tough one."
Robin Quivers "He wouldn't answer it."
Howard Stern "Hey, Lady Di, would you go to the doctor?"
Kate Bohner "I don't think he would have asked her."
Donald Trump "Go back over to my Lexus because I have a new doctor, we wanna give you a little check up."
Howard Stern "Lady Di you would've gone out with. Not that she was not attractive."
Donald Trump "She was actually really beautiful."
Howard Stern "You think so? More beautiful than supermodels?"
Donald Trump "I thought she was supermodel beautiful. I'm telling you, I said this the other day. I said Lady Di had supermodel beauty."
Howard Stern "Really?"
Donald Trump "She had times, you know, it was interesting, she had times when she didn't look great, and sometimes you look better than anybody in the world. But she was a supermodel."
Howard Stern "I'm shocked that you say this. I can't believe it."
Donald Trump "She had the height, she had this, she had magnificent skin. She really had - she was a great beauty."
Howard Stern "And did you meet her?"
Donald Trump "She wrote me a letter."
Howard Stern "Oh, she wrote you a letter, go ahead."
Donald Trump "About a couple of months before she died, thanking me because I did a favor for something."
Howard Stern "What did you do?"
Donald Trump "Like a schmuck, I went back to work. I did - I just -"
Howard Stern "What was the favor that you did for her?"
Donald Trump "I just did her a favor. She asked me to do something, I did it, and she wrote me a really nice letter."
Howard Stern "What was the favor?"
Donald Trump "I can't tell you."
Howard Stern "Yes, you can. Please, please what was it?"
Donald Trump "It's a personal thing."
Howard Stern "Share your privates? What are you a doctor? Come on, tell me what you did, please."
Donald Trump "I did something, and then I sent her some flowers."
Howard Stern "What did you do for her?"
Donald Trump "I can't tell you."
Howard Stern "Yes, you can. Come on."
Donald Trump "But she really thanked me for the flowers more than the favor."
Howard Stern "What do you think he did for her?"
Donald Trump "I have no clue."
Howard Stern "Ever pleasured yourself to her."
Donald Trump "No, never."

In an ideal world, there would be some sort of repercussion for Trump talking about any woman like this - let alone a very famous, very well-respected woman - under any circumstance. But as he seems to be immune to responsibility, it's unlikely that these tapes being surfaced will provoke a response from Trump in any meaningful way. Instead, we have to hope that young American men aren't taking a lesson from our current president, and that at some point in the future Trump will be forced to acknowledge the real, true fact of the whole situation: this is unacceptable behavior, and it will never be considered OK.

A Policy Protecting Transgender Workers From Discrimination Was Just Reversed by Jeff Sessions

Attorney General Jeff Sessions reversed a major Obama-era policy change on Oct. 5, one that extended the Civil Rights Act to protect transgender employees from discrimination in the workplace. Sessions, who has a well-documented history of racism, has spent much of his tenure at the DOJ attempting to erase any and all progressive policy that would make for a more equitable set of civil rights in America.

The directive was obtained by BuzzFeed News and explicitly addresses Title VII, the section of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that deals with discrimination on the basis of an individual's sex. "Title VII's prohibition on sex discrimination encompasses discrimination between men and women," the memo reads, "but does not encompass discrimination based on gender identity per se, including transgender status."

Former Attorney General Eric Holder initially amended Title VII in 2014, issuing a memo to all Department of Justice employees and US attorneys that put forth a more nuanced interpretation of the half-century-old law. " . . . the department will no longer assert that Title VII's prohibition against discrimination based on sex excludes discrimination based on gender identity per se including transgender discrimination, reversing a previous Department of Justice position," a press release sent by Obama's DOJ reads, adding, "Title VII makes it unlawful for employers to discriminate in the employment of an individual 'because of such individual's . . . sex,' among other protected characteristics."

Sessions, however, asserts that it's on the Justice Department – not any previous guidance – to interpret the law "as written by congress" and therefore the administration has no responsibility to enforce protections on a nuance such as gender identity. In a statement given to The Hill, the ACLU slammed the decision to rescind such basic civil rights in yet another hostile move toward the LGBTQ+ community.

"Today marks another low point for a Department of Justice, which has been cruelly consistent in its hostility towards the LGBT community and in particular its inability to treat transgender people with basic dignity and respect," the statement said. "Discrimination against transgender people is sex discrimination, just as DOJ recognized years ago. We are confident that the courts will continue to agree and will reject the politically driven decision by Attorney General Sessions."

Here's How to Transition Off the Keto Diet (Without Gaining Weight)

While clinical nutritionist Dr. Josh Axe, DNM, DC, CNC recommends the keto diet as a temporary diet, one of the biggest complaints in doing so is the immediate post-keto weight gain. So what happens when you're forego the high-fat lifestyle and go back to regular life? Do you just gain all the weight back?

Dr. Axe has a strategy for transitioning out of ketosis. The key here is to not go from your (for most people, drastically different) diet back to your normal eating habits, especially if said habits were carb heavy with lots of processed sugars. In fact, Dr. Axe has noted that he's seen this same thing happen with thousands of clients, keto or otherwise: the second someone is done with a diet, they go ham with the unhealthy foods. It's not a hallmark of stopping keto, but rather of stopping any kind of diet.

However, since keto is such a specific diet with such unique parameters for macronutrients, he has a few eating and dieting techniques that he recommends for coming off keto:

  • Paleo. First and foremost, he suggested transitioning from keto to Paleo. They're similarly low-carb, but Paleo is more maintainable for a long period of time with a good balance of essential macronutrients.
  • Carb Cycling. This is a technique that Dr. Axe's wife uses for weight maintenance and health. He explains it in deeper detail on his website, but it generally consists of eating more carbs on certain days of the week, and fewer on others. Dr. Axe told POPSUGAR that carb cycling is a great way to transition off of the keto diet.
  • GAPS Diet. The GAPS diet focuses on promoting a healthy gut - anything from inflammatory bowel disease to leaky gut syndrome. On said diet, you avoid all processed foods and sugars, grains, starchy carbs and potatoes, and dairy.
  • TCM. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is the basis of Dr. Axe's nutritional practice, and the diet itself promotes overall health with a natural approach. The diet is different for everyone depending on your body's needs, but in our discussion, Dr. Axe focused on alkalinity by using specific greens to balance the body's acidity (think: cilantro, parsley, turmeric, spinach, celery, or cucumber).

The Struggle of Changing My Baby's Diaper Is Way Too Real

My 1-year-old son is my favorite little human and I love him more than anything, but whenever I change his diaper, he morphs into an insane person. He cries, flails, screams, grabs things, throws things, and generally loses his mind. Note: this is true no matter the circumstances. It doesn't matter where we are, how much he's slept, whether he's eaten, whether there's anything in the diaper, or what sort of mood he was in 14 seconds ago. It doesn't matter if I make funny faces, sing his favorite songs, or hand him toys. Without fail, he goes batsh*t crazy the moment I try to change his diaper.

I get it: Maybe the air is occasionally a bit brisk, or maybe he's a little tired, or maybe he's angry that I've pulled him away from his toy train. (Likely.) Regardless, it makes for a rough experience for both of us several times a day - particularly when he tries to roll around everywhere or throw himself off a changing table. For a while I suffered quietly, wondering what in the hell I was doing wrong. It's not a diaper-rash issue, warm wipes don't do the trick, and I've become an EXPERT at lightning-fast changing sessions. What's the deal? When I mentioned it to his doctor, who experienced my son's madness firsthand, she laughed, saying, "He's just fun. He'll grow out of it." She's right; he's super fun, but the diaper changing? Yeah, not so much.

I'm sure he'll grow out of it one of these days, but in the meantime, it's a challenge, both physically and mentally. Sound familiar? Here's a look at the emotional roller coaster of trying to change a wild baby's diaper - in GIFs.

7 Tips For Overcoming Anxiety While Traveling

Only those who have dealt with anxiety - whether it affects you out of the blue or you've experienced it your entire life consistently - know how physically and mentally draining it can really be. It's completely awful, but know you're not alone.

Traveling can help anxiety by just facing your fears - whether it's navigating through an unfamiliar city or hanging out with locals. However, it can easily take over your mind and body if you let it, especially in a foreign destination, so it's important to create a plan and take control. Here are some calming tips on how to not let that overwhelming feeling of anxiety stop you from traveling the world, plus what to do if you experience it abroad.

1. Breathe

Seems pretty simple, right? It's not as easy as it sounds when you're dealing with a mind that's constantly racing or a pounding heart. Using deep-breathing exercises does wonders and is often helpful to decrease anxiety. Take a deep breath in, count to three, and then exhale slowly. Take a step away from whatever you're doing to recognize your breath and reset your mind.

2. Write It Out

Write out your feelings like a grocery list. Many people feel their anxiety comes from "out of the blue," therefore, identifying specific trigger thoughts can be tough. Writing out your thoughts, even when you don't feel anxious, can be therapeutic and will keep you present while on the road.

3. Avoid Your Triggers

Before you leave, it may be helpful to come up with a list of everything that triggers your anxiety and try to minimize your exposure to it while on your journey. For some people, it's alcohol, and for others, it can be crowded bars; whatever usually triggers you, staying away from it will keep your mind at ease.

4. Repeat a Mantra

For some, positive self-talk and repeating words or phrases when anxiety strikes is powerful and rewires the thought process. Saying phrases to yourself such as "this too shall pass and I can stand this" or "this is just a feeling" can shift your mind in any way you desire.

5. Go For a Run

Let it all go. Running is one of the best ways to relieve stress and tension in a healthy way. If you're in a foreign country, have someone come along with you, set a playlist, and take a therapeutic run.

6. Tell People

It's uncomfortable and difficult to explain the feeling to others you're with who may not have experienced this anxious feeling, but it helps to tell people. Saying it out loud will instantly give you power over your own mind.

7. Remember, It's Just a Feeling

Embrace your thoughts. Don't deny the many feelings and emotions that may arise, but know that this too shall pass (cliché, but true). You've gotten through this before, and you can do it again.

This Macro-Counting Formula For Weight Loss Is the Tool We've Been Missing

We recently learned all about the power of counting macronutrients and why it's so much more efficient (and healthy!) for your body than simply focusing on a calorie count. By focusing on carbohydrates, protein, and fat, you can better optimize your diet for your physical and personal needs, whether you're boosting your metabolism, cutting fat, or building muscle.

Many of us want to know what it takes to lose weight, right? What's the optimal diet for weight loss and fat cutting? What does that day look like? Our macro-counting expert, wellness coach Carrie McMahon, breaks it down for us and shows that slight adjustments can make huge differences in weight."[Counting macronutrients] is a concept that is fairly new to most women," said Carrie. And just like LISS workouts, macro counting has "existed in the bodybuilding world for years, but it can be applied to real, everyday life."

Counting macronutrients can be tricky, but there are tools to help you stay on track (and do the math). Here's what you need to get started:

The Tools

  • A meal tracker. Figuring out all these numbers can be super tough (and mentally exhausting). To focus more on your diet and how you're feeling, Carrie suggests the My Macros+ Tracker ($3).
  • Your optimal caloric intake. Find your number with a calorie calculator online (many of them are free, including this one from FreeDiet that Carrie suggested).
    • Carrie tells us to take the total amount of calories you need to consume for maintenance, and reduce that by about 10 to 20 percent, depending on goals. That will be your caloric target for the day. Example: if your maintenance number is 2,000 calories, your target will be somewhere from 1,600 to 1,800.
    • Don't try to make huge cuts to your calories as it can have an adverse effect. "I never like to make huge jumps to cut calories." she said. She suggests slowly cutting calories, little by little, to see how your body reacts. "There's no point in cutting off a huge chunk, feeling like crap and rebounding, when in fact you may only need to cut slightly to see weight-loss results."

The Formula

Once you have your total caloric intake, it's time to break it up into macros - how many grams of fat, carbohydrates, and protein do you need each day?

Carrie's formula for weight-loss macro planning, or "cutting": 20 percent fat, 45 percent carbohydrate, 35 percent protein split. These percentages stay the same, but the calorie breakdown below will be different from yours based on your weight, height, age, and level of activity (how much you work out). Make sure you apply the 20-45-35 breakdown to your own numbers, as calculated via the FreeDiet calorie calculator.

Here's how you calculate macros: use the target number of calories, and plug it into these formulas. Let's say your target is 1,400 calories - this is how that number looks plugged into the equations.

  • (.20) x 1,400 = 280 kcal / 9 (since there are 9 calories in every gram fat) = 31 grams of fat per day
  • (.35) x 1,400 = 490 kcal / 4 (4 calories per gram of protein) = about 123 grams of protein per day
  • (.45) x 1,400 = 630 kcal / 4 (4 calories per gram of carbohydrates) = about 158 grams of carbohydrates per day

Example total macro targets for the day: 31 grams of fat, 123 grams of protein, 158 grams of carbohydrates. That's a low fat, very high protein diet.

The Meals

This is how Carrie breaks up meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner include all three macros (carbs, protein, and fat). There are two snacks built into the day: the first snack (between breakfast and lunch) is just protein and fat (no carbs), and the second snack (between lunch and dinner) is carbs and protein (no fat).

What does that looks in terms of foods? Use this guide to get a glimpse into what your days will look like (and think of this as a shopping list!). Keep in mind, you'll need to track all your foods in your app, in order to reach your target numbers. After a while, it'll start to feel like second nature and you'll have a much better idea of what your meals will look like on a day-to-day basis.

Good Carbohydrate Sources:

  • Oatmeal, oat bran
  • Sweet potato
  • Brown rice
  • All veggies
  • All fruits
  • Whole-wheat breads, wraps, pitas
  • Cereals

Good Protein Sources:

  • Chicken, lean beef, fish
  • Egg whites
  • Cottage cheese, strained Greek yogurt
  • Protein powder (Carrie says you can make protein pancakes, stir it into oatmeal or Greek yogurt!)
  • Tofu, tempeh
  • Beans (be aware that they're also high in carbs)

Good Fat Sources:

  • All nuts and nut butters
  • Avocado
  • Seeds
  • Egg yolks
  • Oils
  • Cheeses
  • Dark chocolate

What you choose to eat is up to you - there's no elimination with counting macros, it's just about being aware of your distribution and knowing if you're getting enough of the right kind of calories. It'll take some work to get the hang of it, but in Carrie's words, "the results are life changing."

Stay-at-Home Mom Explains Why a Partner's Weekend Away Is So Frustrating

Being a stay-at-home parent can be tough, but for many of those moms and dads, the light at the end of the parenting tunnel is a weekend with their partner home so they can share some responsibilities, get a break, and, hopefully, indulge in a few moments of self-care after a long week with the kids. Of course, the partner who's at work away from home all week should get the opportunity for a break as well, but after a friend asked if it was OK to be upset that her husband planned to go on a "spontaneous boys' weekend," mom blogger Constance Hall explained why her being upset is totally validated.

"She asked me, 'Is it OK that I'm so mad? Would you be upset?' So I thought about it, from both sides," Hall wrote in a post to her Facebook page. "And the truth is that yes, I would be upset."

The mom continued, explaining that many parents who don't stay at home with their kids don't realize the sacrifices their coparent makes by staying at home - "it's hard f*cking work and no matter how hard they work, the same amount of work is presented to them the following day" - and that the only break they get is the other parent being home, giving them some semblance of a typical weekend. She wrote:

You are the weekend, you are the break. Just knowing that [they're] not going to be the only one getting food down the kids' throats or not the only one to buckle in and buckle out every kid makes it so much easier. The kids are happier because you are home, the woman (or man) you love is happier because you are home. How crazy is that?

So the next time you want to spontaneously go away on a boys' weekend, and I'm not saying never have spontaneity, but I want you to understand why your partner may feel let down, imagine if you worked five days and just before you clocked off your partner called you and said, "By the way, you don't get a weekend this week, you're working all the way through."

You'd be kinda pissed too.

Hall ended her post by reminding work-away-from-home parents that if there's someone at home who wants them there - even if it's a little bit (OK, a lot a bit) because they need a break - they're "already winning at life."

Will There Ever Be Medieval or Roman Theme Parks in Westworld? Sure Seems Like It

While the adventures of Dolores and Teddy in Westworld are perfect for any western fan, it looks like the highly anticipated second season of HBO's sci-fi drama will be exploring new genres (of amusement parks, that is). It's long been assumed that Samurai World would be introduced, especially after the show's Samurai-heavy installation at San Diego Comic-Con this Summer. Fortunately, it seems Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy also have some other exciting parks to introduce in season two.

On the second day of the Vanity Fair's New Establishment Summit in LA, Nolan and Joy were asked about what other parks from Michael Crichton's original 1973 film would make an appearance in new episodes, if any. Nolan went on to explain that the reason they left out Roman World and Medieval World in season one was because "we had to save something for season two." That certainly makes it seem like robots dressed in togas and renaissance cloaks will pop up at some point soon, right? What it also does is fuel suspicion that the Samurais seen at the end of season one might have been a red herring. Which other worlds, exactly, are we going to see in season two?

In Crichton's film, the artificial intelligence company that runs Westworld, Delos, has a handful of other parks for humans to enter and live out their wildest fantasies. Roman World and Medieval World are present, and in the 1976 sequel, a park known as Futureworld is also introduced. At this point, no announcements of Asian actors cast for Samurai World characters have been made public. What HBO has done is reveal that Gustaf Skarsgård (yes, Alexander and Bill's brother), Get Out's Betty Gabriel, and Rogue One's Fares Fares are all joining the show. Jonathan Tucker is coming on board as well as "Major Craddock, a commanding military officer." That character in particular sounds like a good fit for Westworld.

Though none of the new cast additions sound like a perfect fit for Samurai, Medieval, or Roman areas of Delos's parks, we do know that we'll at least get to see one of the new locations. In the season one finale, a self-aware Maeve (Thandie Newton) receives a note from Felix Lutz (the Delos tech played by Leonardo Nam) instructing her to search "Park 1" for her missing daughter. We'll have to wait until Westworld returns in 2018 to find out for sure.

American Horror Story: This 1 Hint Could Mean Ally Is the Real Cult Leader

While watching this season of American Horror Story, one thing about Ally (Sarah Paulson) has continued to stick out to me - you know, in between her blood-curdling screams.

It's interesting that Ally's name is spelled the same way as a word you'd use to describe a close friend or associate; "ally" is usually the word of choice when you're referring to a partner in crime (ahem) or a supporter (hmmm), as well as in the world of politics ("political allies"). Over the past few years, we've also been seeing the term assigned to a person who has aligned themselves with a marginalized group - i.e., a straight ally to the LGBTQ+ community, a male ally to women's rights, or a white ally to the Black Lives Matter movement. The spelling of Ally's name definitely fits with the character - she's a gay liberal who loves Barack Obama and seems to align herself with causes that support people of color and minority groups - but it could be a major hint at her potential involvement with the creepy clown cult that is currently terrorizing her. Will she become one of their allies?

There have been few theories about Ally possibly joining up with Kai and his cult, and others positing that she might even become the real leader. Evan Peters confirmed as much in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, saying, "Ally is very special to Kai because she is terrified of a lot and has phobia, the worst kind of fear. It's a challenge for Kai to maybe take her in and make her the queen, his right-hand woman." Peters added, "There's something special and bewitching about her, where he sees her as an integral part of his master plan. Almost a heaven-sent figure."

Seeing as the main cult members are connected by nature-inspired names, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to assume that show creator Ryan Murphy would give a hefty dose of extra thought to his main character's name as well.

Here's the Secret Way to Get Your Pumpkin Spice Latte Fix at Disneyland!

Trader Joe's New Vanilla Pumpkin Candle Smells Like Heaven (and Is Only $4!)

While perusing the aisles of Trader Joe's for new October foods, I stumbled upon something even better than pumpkin spice ice cream - a pumpkin candle! It's not typical for Trader Joe's to offer many non-food products aside from cosmetics, but in the spirit of all things pumpkin, it's released this new candle that smells so good you'd swear you could eat it. And the best part is its shockingly low price tag: $4. Four dollars! Unlike many pumpkin-scented candles that will set you back $25, this is an undeniable steal found in an unexpected place.

The Trader Joe's Vanilla Pumpkin Candle doesn't have an artificial or overpowering scent whatsoever; the sweet vanilla mellows out the pumpkin, creating the warmest and coziest smell. Having this candle lit in your living room might convince your neighbors you have a fresh batch of pumpkin cookies baking in the oven because it almost smells like a Fall dessert. I gave the candle a quick sniff in the store to see if it actually might be worth a buy, and I was so surprised by how good it smelled that I put two in my cart immediately.

While it is a smaller candle (five and a half ounces), it's made with a natural soy wax blend, meaning it should burn longer. If you're like us, you don't typically shop at Trader Joe's for anything but grocery staples, but you'll be so glad you picked up a Vanilla Pumpkin Scented Candle (or a few, if you're looking for a thrifty gift), this season.

The Scary Reason You Absolutely Must Close Your Interior Doors in a Hurricane

If you live in a hurricane zone, then you've no doubt read up on the best ways to protect your home from megastorms, like Irma. While most hurricane preparations focus on fortifying the exterior of your home, there's actually something important you should be doing inside: closing all interior doors.

After conducting scientific wind tests, the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety concluded that when high wind enters the home during a storm (as it could through an open or broken window), it creates strong upward pressure on the roof. If this pressure grows strong enough, it can eventually cause the roof to blow apart, allowing rain to come in and leaving the home exposed to the elements. In short, causing catastrophic damage.

"Closing interior doors helps compartmentalize the pressure inside the home into smaller areas reducing the overall force on the roof structure, which gives the roof a better chance of staying intact," the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety explains on its website.

This Is the Best Diet to Go On (According to Harvard Researchers)

If you want to lose weight, what's on your plate is often more important than the minutes you spend in the gym. And if you want to see the most change, a 2015 study from Harvard says you should be cutting carbs, not fat.

For the study, published in PLoS One, researchers from Harvard and Brigham and Women's Hospital reviewed 53 randomized trials of over 68,000 patients who had been assigned to either low-fat or low-carb diets. They found that low-carb diets were consistently better at helping patients lose weight than low-fat diets; the participants on the low-carb diets lost 2.5 pounds more than those on low-fat diets, with the average weight loss among all groups at about six pounds.

This latest study on the weight-loss benefits of a low-carb diet adds further evidence that if you want to lose weight, ditching bread - not olive oil - can help you see success. Another recent study, for example, showed that dieters who ate fewer than 40 grams of carbohydrates per day lost about eight pounds more than dieters who were put on a low-fat diet. Other studies have shown that high-carb diets may be the real heart-disease culprit, not saturated fat. All in all, this new review is a good reminder that if you want to lose weight, you should choose a diet rich in healthy fats, lean proteins, and fresh produce. Of course, not all fats are created equal - find out which healthy fats you should be incorporating into your diet here.

POPSUGAR: What made you decide to start your weight-loss journey?

Kaitlyn van Brunschot: I was fresh out of a six-and-a-half-year relationship and felt completely lost. I initially started my journey with weightlifting just to fill my time. Very quickly I began to realize that lifting weights made me feel great! It gave me so much confidence, so I just kept doing it. It's funny how quickly you can change, because it's been almost a year now and I have such a passion for fitness. I never thought I'd be the person that I am today!

I gained a lot of weight when my partner cheated on me. I turned to food to feel better about myself. I used food as a means of reward to feel better. Couple that with a relatively sedentary lifestyle and you've got a perfect recipe for weight gain!

PS: What drew you to weightlifting specifically?

KV: I started lifting weights because cardio always left me feeling drained. So I tried weightlifting! I was fortunate enough to have a good friend show me how to do deadlifts and squats, and that's all I did for months. Slowly I started branching out and trying new things.

"Once you trust yourself and have faith in your own abilities, then everything will fall into place!"

I have had this idea that I needed to diet or work out since I was 12 years old. That's more than half of my life! I kept thinking to myself that I'll dedicate my time to it later. After next semester. After the Summer. After I get my bachelor's degree. Little did I realize that I was just putting off my efforts for years. I've tried swimming, DVD programs, and plain old cardio. None of them worked because I wasn't ready for the lifestyle change, nor did I believe in myself. I've learned that just having the belief that you can change is oftentimes the biggest barrier to achieving your goals. Once you trust yourself and have faith in your own abilities, then everything will fall into place!

I think another huge thing is that I always got so stressed about making immediate lifestyle changes. I wouldn't just start working out; I would try to go vegan and start home-cooking and meal prepping and start working out all at the same time. I know now that those extreme changes are not helpful. It really does take baby steps when it comes to making lifestyle changes!

PS: What's your favorite way to work out?

KV: I am beyond passionate about lifting weights! It's such a fun and challenging way to achieve your fitness goals! Lifting has boosted my confidence more than I thought possible. I really love when I can work out with friends who help push me to try harder and lift heavier. Oftentimes that's enough for me to beat a personal record!

PS: What's your weekly exercise schedule?

KV: When I first started, I was working out once a week for about a month or two. Then I started feeling so good every time after I worked out. So I started going two to three times a week for a few more months. After that, I really started noticing my progress and was feeling so good about myself so I started going almost every day. For the last five months, I literally go six times a week. It's not a chore or a punishment for me; it is my passion. I feel so blessed to have discovered weightlifting! It makes you feel so capable and strong and those feelings fuel my passion!

It took me just under a year, but I went from just doing a 10-minute cardio warmup followed by deadlifts and squats every day to hitting every muscle group each week!

Kaitlyn: After

PS: How do you keep workouts exciting?

KV: Work out with friends! Take lots of before and after photos and enjoy your progress! Listen to your new favorite song only when you're working out (my mom told me this one and trust me, it works!). I have made so many friends at my gym, and being naturally outgoing, it helps when I get to work out with them.

PS: How much weight have you lost?

KV: I've lost 78 pounds! The first 25 pounds I lost were just from getting off of birth control, but the rest was all from weightlifting! I went from 225 at my heaviest recorded weight (but I can almost guarantee I was heavier; I just avoided the scale!) to 148 pounds right now.

PS: What was the first big difference, other than the number on the scale, that really made you feel proud and excited?

KV: Being able to fit into clothes that I never thought I'd fit into again. It's a surreal feeling. I vividly recall trying on a dress again that hadn't fit in years and finding that it was way too big. I was drowning in it. And I just looked at myself in the mirror and broke down in tears. I was so damn proud of myself; never did I imagine I would ever lose weight and get healthier. I never believed in myself until that moment. That was a very cathartic moment for me!

PS: How do you track your weight loss?

KV: I used MyFitnessPal to track my food and my weight. Although, when I started working out, I didn't adjust my diet at all and was still eating out a lot, so I didn't always track my food because I felt guilty. And weirdly enough I use Instagram a LOT to track my progress. I post a lot of before and after photos and the support I receive on there is a phenomenal source of extra motivation for me!

PS: What's a typical day of meals and snacks?

KV: I have been eating Oats Overnight, which is a prepackaged high-protein oatmeal, every morning for breakfast (I found them through Instagram!), and I usually eat chicken breast and frozen veggies for lunch. I don't always have time to grill up the chicken myself, so I get the rotisserie chickens or roast turkey breast from Safeway or Costco! Then I'll have Chipotle or a homemade acai bowl for dinner after a good workout session!

I snack on corn thins and rice cakes a lot at work. I like to mindlessly snack when I'm writing code and working on software and they're pretty guilt-free and super filling! I also like to snack on protein granola from Sprouts or fresh blueberries.

PS: Do you count calories?

KV: I do on occasion. I used to do it religiously, but after six to seven months of tracking, I've gotten a pretty good idea about what I'm putting in my body. I eat intuitively now and don't feel as stressed when it comes to tracking my calories. It's easy to get caught up in trying to eat as little as possible, but it's just not worth it. I'm probably sitting at around 1,800 calories a day, but I eat pretty clean, so it's a lot of protein!

Kaitlyn: Before and After

PS: What are the healthy staples that are always in your fridge?

KV: Almond milk and blueberries! As far as nonfridge items go, I always have frozen acai purée in my freezer and bananas and granola on my counter. Also, I don't think I could survive without my peanut butter powder at this point. I put it in every shake I make!

PS: How do you strategize for meals out?

KV: I don't anymore! I don't crave fast food, so when I do go out I just listen to my body. I used to eat until I was so full that I felt ill and bloated. I don't do that anymore; instead I like to actually enjoy the food I'm eating! The nice thing about weightlifting is that if you eat more food, it just means you're fueling your body more!

"I just looked at myself in the mirror and broke down in tears. I was so damn proud of myself."

PS: Do you use a fitness tracker?

KV: I use a Fitbit Charge HR 2. It helps me keep track of my heart rate, which I love when I'm working out!

PS: What role did weightlifting play in your journey? Would you recommend it?

KV: I literally recommend weightlifting to all my friends! Just for the fact that it makes you feel so great about yourself!

PS: What advice do you have for anyone starting out on a weight-loss journey?

KV: Please let yourself celebrate the little victories, like ordering a medium instead of a large meal at a fast-food restaurant! It's such a slow process, but it is absolutely worth it! Find something physical that you love and let yourself develop a passion for it. Let it become more than a temporary thing to lose weight. If you can find something that can be a lifelong hobby, then you're going to go so far!

This Kettlebell Workout Will Burn a Ridiculous Amount of Calories

Get ready, because this five-move kettlebell workout will torch tons of calories. The workout, created by KettleWorx director of programming Laura Wilson, features basic kettlebell moves that should be in anyone's strength-training repertoire.

When learning these exercises, it's important to start with a light weight first - Laura recommends a five- or 10-pound kettlebell. You can increase the amount of repetitions as you become stronger, but first focus on your form and only increase the weight after you can do 20 reps of these moves correctly with a lighter weight. Once you've hit 20 reps, increase the weight but bring your repetitions back down to 10 until you've acclimated to the heavier weight. "It's about pacing yourself and listening to your body; it will tell you what's right," Laura says.

Repeat the following five-move circuit three times in order to work your entire body and keep your heart rate up. Click through to see Laura in action and learn how to do the workout!

Why This Photo of a Mom Who Survived the Las Vegas Shooting Is Going Viral

In the wake of the horrible tragedy that took place in Las Vegas this weekend, people are flocking to social media to recognize the survivors and heroes who did everything they could to help others when they needed it most. Lauren Harkins shared an emotional photo on Facebook of her cousin's fiancée, Summer Clyburn, a 22-year-old mother who took a bullet to save her partner.

"If this isn't the definition of a strong woman then [I don't know] what is. Took a bullet to the back by a rifle to save someone else's life and is still going strong for her baby and love of her life," Harkins wrote.

Clyburn rushed to Michael Gracia's side after he was shot in the left temple. While Clyburn was trying to wrap a flannel shirt around his wound, she was shot in the back. Thankfully, Gracia, who's a police officer, has woken up from surgery and is able to walk. And although Clyburn's wound wasn't immediately life-threatening, the bullet shattered inside her and isn't able to be removed.

Harkins had a final message for her heroes: "I admire you more than you'll ever know and I am so grateful for you and your love for [Gracia]. I love you guys and will ALWAYS be by your sides."
