Stranger Things: If You Don't Recognize Bob, You Should Be Ashamed

Perhaps the most winsome new character on Stranger Things season two is Bob Newby, aka Bob the Brain. He's Joyce's so-earnest-it-hurts new boyfriend, and he's chock-full of the greatest dad jokes ("I hope . . . it doesn't . . . suuuuck").

If you were racking your brain to try to figure out where you recognize Bob from, look no further - we've got all the info about this actor, who has appeared in some of the most iconic films of the past 30 years.

Actor Sean Astin made his film debut in 1985 in The Goonies as Mikey Walsh, leader of the ragtag group of kids who have a madcap adventure searching for pirate treasure, which is why it's so perfect that he's now appearing on a TV show that features so many Goonies parallels.

After a couple of solid but smaller movies - White Water Summer with Kevin Bacon, Memphis Belle with Matthew Modine (also now on Stranger Things), and Encino Man with Brendan Fraser - Astin had a breakout role in the heartwarming football movie Rudy as the titular Notre Dame walk-on football player.

After about a decade of trying his hand at directing (earning an Oscar nomination for one live-action short film, Kangaroo Court) and appearing in a few movies, Astin was once again front and center when he was cast as Samwise Gamgee in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Since then, Astin has appeared in films and on TV sporadically, but he has expanded his repertoire to include voice-over work for film, TV, and video games. He has also gotten very involved in fighting for causes like equal rights, AIDS awareness and education, and mental-illness advocacy.

You'll have to find out by watching season two if Astin will reprise his role for Stranger Things season three!

What's the Real Deal With Hydroquinone?

Hydroquinone has become pretty controversial in the beauty world. One minute, it's the miracle ingredient for clearing up dark spots, and the next, it's supposedly carcinogenic. It's hard for anything to be deemed trustworthy and effective once labeled as a cancer causer. Yet, through all the fuss, experts have maintained that hydroquinone remains the gold standard for erasing hyperpigmentation and age spots. So in all that toxic talk, what's the truth? We asked three experts to weigh in.

Why all the fuss?

"Much of this controversy stems from its ban in South Africa due to side effects," explained Sejal Shah, NYC cosmetic dermatologist and founder of SmarterSkin Dermatology. "Subsequently, other countries banned hydroquinone. It turns out that the questionable products in South Africa contained mercury and other contaminants, which more likely account for side effects being seen."

Dr. Shah further explained that there have been reports of hydroquinone causing cancer in mice when administered in high doses orally, but there are no studies to date showing that this happens in humans and with a topical application. "When properly formulated and used, hydroquinone can be extremely safe and effective, and we have numerous studies confirming this," Shah added.

Does it bleach skin?

Rachel Roff, a medical esthetician and founder of Urban Skin Rx, quickly squashed this myth. "When used within a safe strength, hydroquinone doesn't bleach someone's natural skin tone. It evens out the skin," Roff said. While it may not be proven to cause cancer, if used incorrectly, it can leave skin vulnerable to excessive sun exposure, which could mean a higher risk of skin cancer and sunburn.

"As a general known fact, side effects of skin bleaching, regardless of product or ingredient, include skin irritation and sun sensitivity," dermatologist Dendy Engelman said. There's also a condition called ochronosis, where the skin darkens. This reaction is mainly associated with high concentrations of hydroquinone that has been used for prolonged periods of time.

When do you need hydroquinone?

The main purpose of hydroquinone in skin care is as a lightening agent. "Skin lightening is performed for a variety of reasons, including sun damage. Melanin (aka pigment) is produced by skin cells called melanocytes, and various topical creams are used to reduce the amount of pigment that is produced to brighten the skin," Engelman said. These include hydroquinone, which is the most common, botanical extracts, and antioxidants.

How do you use it safely?

A hydroquinone regimen should be used for no more than three to four months at a time, followed by a minimum of two months off. After the two months, if hyperpigmentation is still an issue, you can return to using hydroquinone for another three- to four-month period.

What if you just can't get behind hydroquinone?

While the experts agree that nothing works on dark spots quite as fast as hydroquinone does, there are ingredients that are just as effective. It may take longer to see results, but natural solutions like kojic acid, alpha arbutin, niacinamide, and vitamin C can help even out your skin. Something like SkinMedica Lytera 2.0, a pigment-correcting serum that is retinol- and hydroquinone-free, balances the skin's melanin production and resists triggers that cause discoloration.

Natural Oven Cleaner For Baked-On Grime

If you've got a dirty secret hiding in your kitchen, then it's time to take care of it. Instead of purchasing a chemical-filled oven cleaner, make your own to leave your oven looking sparkling clean. And guess what? This DIY costs basically nothing to make and doesn't involve breaking a sweat. You won't be embarrassed to open your oven during dinner parties ever again after trying this homemade cleaning concoction!

What You'll Need:

  • 1/4 cup liquid dish soap
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide
  • Zest of one lemon
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • Scrub sponge
  • Paper towels

Directions:

  1. Even if you're dealing with years of baked-on grime (like with this oven), giving it a quick wipe-down with warm, soapy water with a scrub sponge is a great starting point for tackling the mess. Rinse the sponge often to remove grease.
  2. Mix together the ingredients until it resembles thick glue. The baking soda naturally scrubs without scratching, while the hydrogen peroxide and dish soap tackle all that gunk. Lemon zest offers a fresh scent along with the vinegar.
  1. Remove the racks and use a paper towel or sponge to smooth the cleaner all over the inside of the oven, including the oven door. You'll see it start working right away, but don't be tempted to scrub! The longer the concoction sits, the better. Once you've run out of cleaner and the oven is coated, shut the door and let it work its magic for at least four hours.
  1. Open the oven and use a damp scrub sponge to remove the cleaner, and also give a little scrub here and there. It's helpful to have a bucket of warm, soapy water nearby for this step. And without any serious scrubbing, the oven is noticeably cleaner!
  1. Set your oven to self-clean, and close the door. It's OK if some of the cleaner is hanging around in crevices or on areas that were really baked-on, but the entire oven shouldn't still be coated while it's cleaning. Allow your oven to run its self-clean cycle, and then let cool for at least an hour before the next step.
  2. Open your oven and use a damp paper towel or sponge to wipe away any remaining cleaner and residue left over from the self-cleaning. The result is a sparkling-clean oven!

These Abandoned Disney Park Photos Look Like Scenes From a Postapocalyptic World

When we think of Disney World, "creepy" doesn't usually come to mind. But photos of Walt Disney World's first water park, called Disney's River Country, are making us rethink just how sugary sweet all things Disney-related really are. The park, now abandoned, opened in 1976 and closed up shop 25 years later. Just last year, a pool within the park was filled with concrete.

Photojournalist Seph Lawless, who explores eerie abandoned locations all over the country, captured images inside the Orlando park, from vine-covered bridges to overgrown trees and mud-laden former water slides. Admidst the ruins, you can still imagine the former glory of the park, but that glory has long since been lost.

Lawless will include the Disney park's images in his upcoming book, Abandoned: Hauntingly Beautiful Deserted Theme Parks, out in October 2017. Take a look at the apocalypse-like scene at Disney World's first water park ahead, and follow Seph's work on his Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook.

Whey Protein Powder Is Way Better For You - Here's Why

We love us some protein powder - of all kinds! We use it for baking, making pancakes, and whipping up classic shakes and smoothies to give our bodies that extra boost of satiating and muscle-building power. But are some protein powders better than others?

While Clif Bar hosted us in Kona, HI, last week for the Ironman World Championships, we had the chance to meet countless phenomenal endurance athletes who know a thing or two about sports nutrition and protein. Most expert among them all was Clif's dietitian and triathlon coach Marni Sumbal, MS, RD, CSSD, LD/N - she's an 11-time Ironman. So, yeah, she knows what she's talking about.

We had so many questions for Marni, but one of the chief things that stuck out from our conversation was her tip about whey protein and the fact that it's actually way better for your body than other forms of protein powder (especially for muscle building and recovery). If you're able to consume whey (i.e., you're not vegan), you should opt for it whenever possible. Here's why.

  • It's a complete protein. This means "it contains all essential and nonessential amino acids (20 amino acids)." BCAAs for recovery? Check!
  • It's very low in lactose. Marni mentioned that even if you're lactose intolerant, you should still be able to have whey protein. Despite the fact that it comes from animal protein, it's extremely low in digestion-irritating lactose.
  • Your body can use all of it. Whey protein "ranks highest on the bioavailability list," said Marni. "This means that the body can make use of 100 percent of the amino acids found in whey protein." This also means . . .
  • Your body CAN'T use 100 percent of some other forms of protein. She went on to explain that not all proteins are this readily available for your body to absorb. "Because the digestive system absorbs some proteins better than others and some proteins have a larger amino acid profile than others, we can say that the protein in whey protein goes a long way in terms of its role in the body for muscles, energy, lean muscle mass, bones, etc."
  • You might not be getting your full serving without whey. Because other proteins aren't as easily absorbed by your body, you're actually getting less protein than what the label might indicate. When you eat protein, the body has to use energy to break it down in order to absorb it. "So if the serving size says 15 grams of protein, you may end up only absorbing 10-13 grams of protein instead of the 15 grams marketed on the label," she said. "But with whey protein being a fast digesting protein, you can quickly absorb all of the amino acids that your body needs to promote rebuilding muscle tissue and to meet daily amino acid needs. Whey protein ranks highest [in bioavailability] whereas peanuts are lower on the list in terms of bioavailability."

So are plant proteins bad? Not at all. "According to research, you can get a similar amount of protein from pea or soy protein compared to whey, but the absorption isn't as efficient," she told us. "There's nothing wrong with pea or soy protein in terms of a plant-based protein option if it's the only option." But if you're able to eat whey, she recommends it!

The Genius Reason You Should Take a Photo of Your Stove Before You Travel

When I leave for vacation, I check all of the doors. And the windows. About 17 times. I then make sure each knob on the stove is turned to "off" and start the whole process over again just for good measure. Still, inevitably, I will be thousands of miles from home, wake up in the middle of the night, and know without a doubt that I left a burner on and my house (along with my cat) is doomed.

This fear is definitely not uncommon, but luckily, there's a very simple hack that will change the way you travel forever. Instead of wondering hours or days later if you left the oven on, take a photo of the knobs in the "off" position before you leave! Then you can quiet your anxieties by simply opening up your images - no matter where you are in the world, you'll have photo evidence that you did, in fact, turn the stove off. Lifehacker shared this genius hack, and it's so simple but something I've never thought to do!

If you're generally worried about your appliances being left on, take photos not just of your stove, but of your unplugged straightener, you're deadbolt turned the right direction (burglars won't be able to waltz on in!), thermostat (you didn't leave the A/C running!), your unlit candle (no fires!), etc. That gallery of images will give you peace of mind wherever you are so that you can truly enjoy your travels.

Why Yes, That IS Who You Think It Is at the Beginning of Thor: Ragnarok

Spoiler alert: this post describes a plot detail and celebrity appearance in Thor: Ragnarok.

One of the best things about Marvel movies is the Easter eggs, and Thor: Ragnarok is no exception. We get all of the standard goodies when it comes to the third Thor film: two postcredits scenes, the inclusion of Loki and Hulk (which we know thanks to the trailers), and all of the majesty of Cate Blanchett. The best part, though, is the cameos! While Thor: Ragnarok does feature the traditional Stan Lee cameo, there's an even more hilarious apperance: it's f*cking Matt Damon!

We might've suspected Damon was somehow involved in the new Thor movie. After all, he attended the premiere in LA last week, and he even crashed Chris Hemsworth's interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live . . . which, to be fair, doubles as the latest dig in his long-running "feud" with Jimmy Kimmel. At this point, you may be wondering how exactly Matt Damon manifests in the otherwordly landscape of the next big Marvel film. We're here to break it down.

Basically, in the first 15-20 minutes of the film, Thor defeats Surtur, the evil fire monster that's supposed to lay waste to the planet of Asgard. After this, the God of Thunder returns to his home planet to find his father, Odin. Once he reaches the kingdom, he happens upon an in-progress play. In said performance, two Asgardian citizens are playing "Thor" and "Loki," and they're telling a tragic tale of Loki's heroism. (This botched version of history makes sense because Loki has disguised himself as his father Odin, but I digress.) Anyway, Matt Damon is the civilian who's playing Loki in this little community theater version of the first Thor movie. It's pretty hilarious to see him all decked out in a Marvelesque villain outfit and a long black wig. I almost didn't recognize him. Almost.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on Nov. 3.

8 Vitamin C-Infused Products That Will Actually Improve Your Skin

In case you missed it, vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) is everywhere right now - and for good reason. This buzzy superhero of an ingredient can do marvelous things for your skin, and scientists are getting better every day when it comes to creating stable, potent formulations. We'll share some of the best on the market in a sec, including all-star serums, a reparative peel, brightening oil, and a dark-circle perfector that covers while it works. First, though, let's dig into why vitamin C belongs on your beauty shelf.

"L-ascorbic acid is the only vitamin C that has age control benefits," noted Dr. David J. Goldberg, a nationally recognized cosmetic dermatologist. "Vitamin C ester provides antioxidant benefits, but not the collagen deposition and other anti-aging benefits of L-ascorbic acid. As an antioxidant, it provides protection from free radicals, helps to minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and brightens and promotes an even skin tone."

Dr. Goldberg said that vitamin C is safe for all skin types and all ages, and that with consistent usage, "you will start to see brighter skin in as little as one week" and "visible reduction in fine lines and wrinkles in a few weeks to a few months."

Keep reading to shop some of the best vitamin C-infused products on the market right now.

These 10 Eyeliners Are Makeup Artist Approved and Perfect For Blue Eyes

Eyeliner was invented to accentuate and bring focus to the wearer's eye color. When that eye color is blue, the right liner can make things truly pop. If you're a blue-eyed makeup wearer, browns and golds are your most obvious choice, as warmer tones make cool ones appear brighter. Although smoky eyes don't work for everyone, if drama is what you are after, blacks and smoky grays rimmed in the waterline will offer the most contrast. Colored liner on blue eyes often works, too, as blues and plums give a softer, less severe look while complementing the different tones of the eyes.

I'm a makeup artist, and when I have a blue-eyed client who lets me craft a look of my choice, I love to create one that will make her eyes look crystal clear and piercing. Here are my top 10 favorite liners.

30 Women of All Ages Share Why They've Never Had Botox

To say I've been tempted to jump on the Botox bandwagon is an understatement. As a beauty writer and New Yorker who's nearing the bitter end of her 20s, it's safe to say that I'm surrounded by the seemingly untapped benefits of the wrinkle reducer.

More than half of my close friends and colleagues have gone under the needle, and most of the trusted skincare experts I interview on a constant basis talk endlessly about the long-term advantages of what's being called "preventative Botox." Basically, the idea is that if you prevent the muscles from moving at a young age, the cells "atrophy," or shrink after years of not being used. Thus, you don't develop those deep lines or wrinkles.

It sounds promising, and I'm definitely not one to turn down the chance to try something - especially if it's at no cost to me (a very lucky perk of working in this industry) - but there's just something about Botox that I'm not ready for. Along with this decision has come a great deal of anxiety. Am I missing out on an opportunity to try something I should be doing anyway? Are the few lines I notice on my face getting worse every second that I pass up the chance to let a doctor inject me with the stuff?

Encouragement from others to give it a try doesn't help. I know their comments are harmless, but when a friend said, "You should get Botox - just a little in your forehead," months before my wedding, how was I supposed to take it? Plus, it got me thinking, if these conversations are happening around women my age or younger, what are women a decade or two older talking about? And what is the next level once we're tired of Botox?

I also found myself constantly thinking about who might have gotten Botox and who was taking the all-natural route instead. Some say you can tell if people have had it done or not - but, truly, I'm no expert in detecting it. Sometimes I find myself looking at a beautiful older woman on the subway and I wonder, "Is her skin so nice because she's been getting Botox for years?" This is probably the most upsetting part for me - instantly assuming that because a woman has good skin, she's probably had work done.

We need to stop thinking that we need Botox or any other physically altering enhancement to be any more beautiful than we are in our natural state. For those who get Botox and like the results, all the power to them. The beauty world is clearly behind those who decide to indulge, and my opinion is that if it makes you feel more confident and happy in your own skin, go for it. I just personally choose to care for my skin in different ways (at least for now), mainly through the use of quality products, regular facials, and chugging down several glasses of wine - I mean water! - daily. And I'm far from alone.

I asked women of all ages - from their early 20s to their late 80s - who have never had Botox why they've avoided injections and what tricks of the skin trade they're using to care for their skin.

What You Need to Know About the Notorious INFJ "Door Slam"

For INFJ's, it's all or nothing. If pushed to our limits, there's no coming back, and there's no "happy medium" we can return to. Luckily for everyone else, it takes a lot for us to get to that point, but when you've let us down or hurt us one too many times, you can expect to feel the full wrath of the INFJ "door slam."

Every Myers Briggs personality type has their own way of cutting toxic people out of their lives, but no method is quite as final (and drastic) as an INFJ's. The INFJ door slam is a defense mechanism they use to protect themselves against harmful people and relationships. INFJs are naturally good at getting people to open up to them; they skip the small talk and get to the heart of the matter with the people they meet and connect to. Gaining an INFJ's trust is a major accomplishment, and breaking that trust is seen as the ultimate betrayal. INFJs usually don't door slam because of hurt pride or a superficial slight; they eliminate narcissists, people who are selfish, abusive, those who lie or create unnecessary drama, manipulators, or who don't bring positivity and happiness to the INFJ's life.

"When we (hypothetically) slam the door on a person, it's normally the last thing on our list. We know how terrible slamming the door is, but if we feel like we are vulnerable or severally hurt, which is very hard to reach this stage, the door slam is our ultimate weapon," says Quora user and INFJ Sarah Lane.

Because INFJs let so few people in (and they hate feeling vulnerable!), and because they care so deeply about the ones they do allow themselves to get close to, feeling hurt can cause them to reveal a side they seldom let people see.

Is the INFJ Door Slam Really a Bad Thing?

"Slamming the door" is the last thing an INFJ wants to do, but it can actually be a healthy way of dealing with a toxic relationship, because it means protecting themselves from the potential for any future hurt or conflict by cutting out the person entirely. INFJs will do everything they can to salvage a relationship, to help a person out, and to give them a second chance. This caring nature can mean that they are taken advantage of, so the door slam can be a crucial action that allows an INFJ to truly and finally move on for good.

It's not necessarily dramatic the way they do it either; sometimes a door slam just means the INFJ disappears from someone's life quietly. There isn't always a final confrontation or fall out. The person being shut out will get plenty of warnings before it actually happens, too - though because INFJs are extremely intuitive and can read people easily, they sometimes forget that others can't always do the same, and may not take their hints. Their final door slam may be subtle, but it's nevertheless a strong gesture. Try as they may, it's unlikely that a person will be let back in and trusted once the door is slammed, at least not in the same way they were before.

From the perspective of other personality types, the door slam can seem very extreme, but for the INFJ, it gives them a sense of peace and finality that they are unable to achieve otherwise, which can be essential to their mental health and happiness. This personality type doesn't cut people off casually; it's done after much effort, time, and attempts at alternative solutions.

To avoid the dreaded door slam, it's pretty simple: be kind, honest, respectful, and loyal (if that loyalty is well-deserved, of course). A self-aware and logical INFJ will not slam the door prematurely, so know that if you get door slammed by an INFJ, chances are you may have really deserved it.

Go, Go! The Gigi Hadid x Maybelline Palette Is Now Available at Ulta For $30

Gigi Hadid's first Maybelline product has arrived sooner than expected. The Gigi x Maybelline Jetsetter Palette ($30) is on sale RIGHT NOW at ulta.com, the exclusive US retailer for this collection (it hits Ulta brick-and-mortar stores on Nov. 5). A rep from Ulta told POPSUGAR that the entire collection was originally slated to launch this weekend, but they have made the palette available sooner due to the demand. #Bless you, Ulta!

If you want Jetsetter, you need to act fast since it's limited-edition. As the name suggests, it's made for the girl on the go - like Gigi herself. It includes: two concealers, two lip balms, four eye shadows, one matte bronzer, one highlighter, and one mini mascara. There are also two different-size makeup brushes. So, basically everything.

"The most exciting part about making this collection was creating something I wasn't able to find before - a palette or kit that had all my favorite colors and everything I needed - all in one place," Gigi Hadid said in an official statement on Ulta.com.

The neutral, warm, and rosy colors are perfect for a fresh, glowy look - definitely inspired by Gigi's baby face. You can see how stunning the makeup looks on her in the campaign image ahead.

We're also digging the nude-rose packaging that the palette comes in. It begs to be Instagrammed alongside your Glossier or other millennial pink products. Would you really expect anything less than a cool-girl aesthetic from Gigi?

7 Real People Show How They Finally Managed Their Acne With Accutane

If you've ever suffered from severe acne, you know how frustrating - and even depressing - managing your complexion can be. The blemishes can also be painful and, even worse, resistant to both over-the-counter treatments and prescription medication. In these instances, some dermatologists will prescribe Accutane, a form of vitamin A that limits the amount of sebum produced by the skin's oil glands and reduces blemishes.

For some folks, this drug works miracles. Many people have shared their experience and before-and-after photos from their time on Accutane on Reddit and Imgur, explaining how it has improved their lives.

Though it is effective, those considering taking it should heavily evaluate all their options with a dermatologist before getting a prescription for Accutane. It's a very powerful drug that can cause severe birth defects, and can also affect your mood, vision, and appetite. But if you're struggling with severe acne and looking to make a dramatic change, the following (incredible!) skin transformations may inspire you. Read on and click through each gallery and prepare to be amazed.

This Rose Quartz Highlighter Is the Prettiest Shade We've Ever Seen

A moment of silence, please, for all the other highlighter shades because we've found our now-favorite hue of all time: rose quartz. The shade, a cooler-toned cousin of rose gold, comes by way of Kora Organics, the beauty line created by model Miranda Kerr.

When we first spotted the Rose Quartz Luminizer ($28) on Instagram, the cream highlighter reminded us of everyone's favorite trendy shade, millennial pink. Upon closer inspection, we saw the soft hue is more multidimensional with silvery, frosty layers of color. Plus, it's packaged in the prettiest, gold-capped pot.

Beyond being aesthetically pleasing, the highlighter also stands out because it might as well double as skin care - it contains shea butter, coconut oil, jojoba seed oil, and sunflower seed oil. Skin gets both an immediate glow on the surface from makeup and a glow from the inside-out with organic ingredients.

While Kora is best known for its skincare products, this launch marks the brand's first venture into makeup. The rose quartz highlighter is the only product listed in the new "Natural Beauty" section on Kora's site, so there's likely more cosmetics to come. If they're anything like this highlighter beauty, we can't wait.

Ahead, see more photos of the rose quartz highlighter because it's so gosh darn pretty.

Stranger Things: How Did Hopper Even Know Eleven Was Alive?

This article contains spoilers for Stranger Things season two.

One of the highlights of Stranger Things season two is Hopper and Eleven's father-daughter bond. These two misfits find each other at the perfect moment, and it's clear that they're officially Hawkins' cutest family - especially after Hopper's house-cleaning dance. Still, the Netflix series doesn't answer all of the lingering questions from season one, like, how does Hopper know Eleven is alive in the first place? The season begins with the two settled into a routine, and it only shows snippets of how Hopper finds Eleven through flashbacks. Thankfully, those snippets are enough to figure out how Hopper realizes Eleven is out there and in need of his help.

Even though it isn't explicitly stated in season two, it seems Hopper realizes Eleven made it out of the Upside Down alive after she uses her telekinetic abilities to take a hunter's jacket. At that point, Eleven had been on her own for at least two or three days, which made her desperate enough to risk exposure if it meant staying warm. The man no doubt called the police after his bizarre run-in with a scary little girl in the forest. Given Eleven's unique abilities, Hopper would have realized immediately that the girl the man was describing was Eleven and set out to find her.

Season two is full of hints about Hopper's past, and one of the biggest revelations comes when he reveals to Eleven that the cabin they call home used to belong to his grandfather. Between that and the expert trap-setting, Hopper clearly has an outdoorsman past. After he realized that Eleven was alive, Hopper likely put his hunting skills to use in order to draw her out, namely by leaving food for her to find, signaling that she wasn't alone. It's unclear whether or not Hopper built the box in the woods or if it's an old survival cache box used by rangers to store food in case of emergencies, but either way, Hopper knew Eleven would be hungry. He also knew she loves Eggos, which would be a quick way to communicate to her that whoever was leaving the food knew her. Thanks to the hunter, Hopper also had a good idea of the vicinity Eleven was in, and these two things combined made it easier for him to find the superpowered tween.

via GIPHY

Despite leaving most of how Hopper tracks down Eleven a mystery, Stranger Things does an excellent job of showing how these two characters come to trust and rely on each other. Clearly, neither one of them has an easy time opening up, and Hopper's fear that something would happen to Eleven if she leaves the cabin puts a strain on their family bonding. In fact, Hopper's other box - the one that doesn't contain Eggos - seems to be a bigger problem for Eleven. However, it also becomes the catalyst that leads her back home for good.

The fact that Hopper knows about Eleven's mother, but fails to share the information with her, sends the young woman on a quest that ultimately leads to her finding not only her mom, but also her "sister." Even though she finds two women with whom she shares a strong bond, Eleven chooses to return to Hawkins to protect her friends. Her journey gives her some sense of context about her past, as well as a drive to seek out the future she wants. That future is in Hawkins with Hopper, Mike, and her friends.

If Eleven had never stolen that jacket, Hopper may not have realized Eleven was still alive, and her story could have had a tragic ending. Fate seems to have brought these two together, and with any luck, even the Mind Flayer won't be able to tear Hopper and Eleven apart in Stranger Things season three.

Just in case West Coasters were feeling left out in the wake of Disney World's exciting Toy Story Land news, never fear! Disneyland will be getting its fair share of Pixar love in 2018, and we've got the details you need to know.

As we already shared, Pixar Pier is making its way to Disney California Adventure, and the immersive area of the park will be a permanent addition starting next year. But there's more! Beginning April 13, 2018, a limited-time event called Pixar Fest will come to life at both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. The celebration will also include a new nightly fireworks show called Together Forever - A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular, which will light up the sky over the resort.

"Along with dazzling pyrotechnics and memorable music, a heartwarming story celebrates the theme of friendship, an ever-present concept in Pixar animation," said Disney. "Guests are invited to embark on an emotional journey that begins with the meeting of unlikely Pixar pals and follows their adventures as they overcome obstacles and forge everlasting friendships. 'Together Forever' comes to life through projections on iconic park locations: Sleeping Beauty Castle, the water screens of the Rivers of America, the facade of It's a Small World, and the buildings of Main Street, USA. The grand tradition of Tinker Bell flying over Sleeping Beauty Castle also gets a Pixar twist, with a special flyover by Buzz Lightyear!"

In addition to the nighttime show, there will be exclusive Pixar event merchandise, the return of two parades, and new themed decor, food, and entertainment in honor of the Fest.

Here's What - and When - to Eat Before Working Out

When it comes to working out, it's important to feel energized, but it's not always as simple as grabbing a snack on your way out the door. Eating too close to exercise is a recipe for discomfort, but heading to the gym hungry isn't ideal either.

To learn how to maximize the potential of a workout, I spoke with nutritionist Heidi Skolnik, MS, CDN, FACSM, and author of Nutrient Timing for Peak Performance ($20) to find out what to eat and when before heading to the gym.

There's no denying it: Queen Máxima and King Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands are not only the happiest royal couple out there but also the chillest. From that moment on, the cuteness has only increased. There are endless photos of the royal couple happily walking arm in arm, laughing so hard it's contagious, and enjoying sweet and silly moments with their three daughters, Princesses Catharina-Amalia, Alexia, and Ariane. Gordon Ramsay's Transformative Way to Scramble Eggs

Yes, there are a million different scrambled eggs techniques out there, but Gordon Ramsay's will be your full-stop method. While at a press event to promote his new game with Glu Mobile, I asked chef Ramsay to go through the proper way to scramble eggs. His unique method has a heartwarming tale:

"After training in London, I wanted to become French, so I went to the birthplace of all cuisine. I remember seeing this amazing dish with scrambled eggs and sea urchin. I tasted the sea urchin through the scrambled eggs . . . and they topped it with caviar. I thought it was wild. I had never put sea urchin in scrambled eggs. The texture was just incredible. It made it so much creamier. What was more accessible to the average person at home making scrambled eggs - I knew that was crème fraiche. I perfected that craft in France making scrambled eggs to order, standing in Guy Savoy's restaurant behind the line as a 22-year-old."

But crème fraiche isn't the only thing that makes these scrambled eggs different from the rest. It's cooked in a pot! The eggs aren't seasoned from the start! Most of the cooking is done off the flame! Are you baffled yet? Me too, which is why I had to try the method out for myself. So where to begin? Start by watching Gordon's YouTube video. He shared a hilarious story about it:

I think there's about 15 million people online who have [watched] that scrambled eggs video. And it transforms the way you eat eggs. Incredible. It's a kind of rich, sumptuous way to eat scrambled eggs even for dinner, even with all the steps. It's just delicious on sourdough bread. My video, with 15 million downloads on YouTube, I burn the f*cking toast. I'm not so far down my backside. I make mistakes. I just start again. It's funny. I'm so into my scrambled eggs, focusing away. Fire alarm is going off and I burn my toast."

Like Gordon, my first attempt didn't go off hitch-free. I'm unfortunately going to need a few more practices to end up with perfectly custardy, voluminous eggs like Gordon, but what I did make was truly exceptional and unlike any scrambled eggs I've ever had before. I can't wait to keep on practicing, and neither will you once you've memorized the steps.

OMG, This Tarte Vault Is a Really, Really, Ridiculously Good Deal

If you're a makeup-lover, the holidays are a time of reaching for the stars, budget-wise. While your wish list might include more zeros than your paycheck does (fairy godmother, I want this 50-piece, $1,980 Tom Ford lipstick collection, and I want it now), it doesn't have to be that way. In fact, as Tarte's latest vault proves, budget beauty can be just as fabulous - and opulent.

Take, for instance, this Tartelette Vault ($100), which includes the Matte, In Bloom, and brand-new Toasted Palette, all for much less than the kits would retail separately.

If you're palette-obsessed, you probably live for the days you bring home another set of powders to add to your collection - well, imagine the delight in bringing home (or unwrapping) three! Two of the sets (Matte and In Bloom) are old favorites. Matte is somewhat of a "desert island" palette that features 12 versatile, creamy, and everyday shades.

In Bloom has the same amount of shades in similar hues but kicks things up a notch because these colors include shimmer, metallic, and darker options.

Since Toasted only just dropped earlier this month, perhaps you haven't had time to try it out just yet. But now is definitely the season for this collection of 12 burnt, fiery shades, as the shimmer options are perfect for holiday parties and feeling yourself this Fall.

Bought individually, these palettes would cost a total of $134. With this limited-edition vault, you can get things for a considerably cheaper price. We did the math, and with this deal, each shadow comes out to about $3. Of course, each of these kits will last you about two years, making the Tartelette Vault a pretty cost-effective option.

Looking fabulous for less than the price of your morning coffee? Happy holidays, indeed.

You Won't Believe These Are Even the Same White Sneakers Thanks to This Cleaning Hack

Image Source: Unsplash / Haley Phelps

Sometimes when I buy white sneakers, I consider getting two pairs at the same time because I envision what those pristine shoes will soon look like after a few wears. Sparkling white turns to a weird grayish brown in no time, and try as I might, my attempts at cleaning them have never done the trick.

Twitter user sarahtraceyy may have just solved the problems of every white-shoe-lover with a simple cleaning hack that's a game changer.

She shared a before-and-after photo of her Converses, and it's hard to believe they are even the same pair of shoes. After being showered with a Twitter storm of questions, she shared her secrets with the world.

Sounds easy enough! She advises you to first rinse the sneakers, then mix one part baking soda and one and a half parts regular laundry detergent together, and simply scrub the shoes with a toothbrush. After letting them sit, she then rinsed her shoes in water and put them in the washer. She finished off the DIY by putting baby powder on the sneakers and letting them dry. Keep in mind these are specifically white cloth sneakers, so the DIY would need to be tweaked for something like white leather shoes.

Try out this cleaning trick on your white shoes, and make them look like new!

Indulging in some of the best flavors of the season doesn't have to get in the way of your weight loss. In fact, in this case, these foods actually help.

The Surprising Things I Learned From My First Couchsurfing Experience

It was after months of traveling across three continents that I found myself wandering with a friend through Amsterdam - sans plans or sleeping arrangements for the night. Spontaneity requires surrendering to the moment. Sometimes all it takes is a pinch of this boldness to inspire the most enlightening of travels. In my experience, it has been the key to my most treasured adventures. The difference between making the jump and playing it safe is in the stories you'll tell when you return back home. It was somewhere along our journey from Scotland that we had tossed up the idea of Couchsurfing. For the uninitiated, it's a way for travelers to link up with locals for a place to crash. We admittedly agreed that it was one means of traveling that we had continued to steer clear of. Our next breath came with a mutual, fingers-crossed hope that Amsterdam would be the place to change that.

Most people hear about the idea of Couchsurfing, and it triggers the flashing of the words dangerous, strangers, and absolutely not in their heads. In my mind it was something saved for the most adventurous and avid of travelers. A down-and-dirty batch that I didn't believe I was cool enough to run alongside. That rainy day in Amsterdam must have clouded my judgment as I typed back an acceptance to the welcoming 20-something Australian's proposal that we crash at his extra apartment. It was a rush - nerve-wracking and exciting in a way that made me sure I was writing my own ticket to adventure and a story to carry home.

I discovered a newfound trust in spontaneity.

We weren't alone in this, my friend and I, and that's what gave us the momentum to surrender. As we made our way to the address he had sent, we continued to reassure one another - it's fine, we're together, if it's shady we'll leave, his other surfers said he was lovely . . . Climbing up the inconceivably narrow stairs to the apartment, the "I'm feeling nervous, are you?" dialogue continued. Then it happened. Our host opened the door and helped us with our bags. He matched his picture - so far so good. There was a sense of relief in the air that eventually boiled over into consolation laughter as we made small talk. He sat down, and let out a sigh - we were normal, as was he. It was a game of chance on both sides, but in that moment, we realized our intuition had guided us in the right direction.

Upon realizing that everyone involved in this couchsurf met expectations, all reservations were forgotten, and I discovered a newfound trust in spontaneity. We were invited to celebrate Liberation Day with his friends, taken to the local market and treated to beer, an Uber to get us to the festival, alongside a day packed with a level of hospitality and kindness that we still can't seem to get over (two and a half years later). The overly windy hours that day were spent sprawled out on a grass field with this stranger and his friends, one French, one Polish, and one Dutch. We listened to live bands play, spoke about everything under the sun, and shared our "so, how'd you get here" stories. Latching onto the back of their bikes, we were taken around the city, wondering why we hadn't given this a chance sooner.

Maybe it was beginner's luck, or maybe it was proof that there is goodness in the world. Either way, we felt as though we had hit the first-timers jackpot. When our new friends had danced us out to the point of exhaustion, we said our thank you's and gave hugs in place of goodbyes. Wandering back to what was once a stranger's apartment, we were in awe of the unexpected warmth we stumbled into. We lived like locals, and the reward of our gamble was in the experience.

9 US Cities That Will Make You Feel Like You're in Europe

While seemingly everyone wants to jet-set off to Europe for a grand adventure, there are a few towns in the US that bring the adventure closer to home. From Germany to Greece, the US has some amazing places that look almost identical to the real thing. Start saving your money - you'll want to check out all of these places for an experience that's anything but domestic.

Step Aside, PSL - There's a New Fall-Ready Starbucks Latte in Town, and It's Incredible

Starbucks just released its newest Fall beverage - the Maple Pecan Latte - and, honestly, it gives the beloved PSL a run for its money. Before you accuse me of utter blasphemy against the sacred Pumpkin Spice Latte, hear me out. I admit to indulging in Starbucks's pumpkin-flavored latte from time to time when I'm feeling especially in the sweater-weather spirit, but the syrup is admittedly a tad too sweet and overwhelming at times. That's why the brand spankin' new Maple Pecan Latte (or shall I say MPL?) is my latest obsession.

I had a chance to try the MPL, which is the first maple-flavored drink the coffeehouse has released in US stores in 10 years, and man . . . it sure didn't disappoint! It offers warming, cozy notes of maple syrup, pecans, and brown butter, all of which complement the espresso flavors without overpowering it too much. The best part? It's topped with orange and yellow sugar granules for an added bit of texture (kind of like the Cascara Latte). Overall, sipping on the MPL basically made me feel like I was wrapped up in a fuzzy blanket while watching Hocus Pocus and sniffing a Fall-scented candle. And what's more Fall than that?!

In the famous words of those corny late-night infomercials: "But wait, there's more!" Starbucks is releasing the Maple Pecan Latte in tandem with a new array of Fall-themed cups!

They're just like those bright Spring ones that debuted earlier this year, except these come in warmer colors (teal, magenta, and orange, specifically) and are decorated with illustrations of an owl, a pie, and a pumpkin. How adorable. Can't wait to 'gram a photo of the MPL in one of these cuties.

17 Photos That Prove Blonde Works on Every Skintone

We tend to be so attached to our hair that even the merest cut or trim can spark months of mourning until the lost inches grow back. That's even more true when it comes to color. Despite the popularity of bright hair color trends inspired by everything from Fruity Pebbles to candy floss, the idea of going blonde is still a bold move many shy away from. If you're on the fence about adopting the bold color, let your inhibitions go, and let the following beauties inspire you to become a bottle blonde.

Oh, So This Is the $65 Magic Kate Middleton Puts on Her Skin to Look So Dang Great

We're not quite sure if army pants and flip-flops are Kensington Palace-approved, but something tells us that if Kate were to wear the combo, just like in Mean Girls, we'd go out and buy the same. From the lily of the valley perfume she wore to her wedding (you may not be a royal, but you can sure smell like one) to the Trilogy Rose Hip Oil she reportedly hoards (that costs a very cool $29), any product the duchess decides to use is fair game for selling out. And for good reason - you will never see Kate looking anything less than perfect, especially when it comes to her glowing skin.

As it turns out, one serum that has (reportedly) earned its place on the expectant royal's vanity is the Beuti Skincare Beauty Sleep Elixir ($65), which boasts a pretty impressive list of claims. For one, the gel works while you sleep, which is honestly enough for the lazy girls among us to click "add to cart" right away. But because Kate knows her stuff, there's so much more to this serum than its convenience factor.

For one, the paraben-free and plant-based formula is concocted with a mix of vitamins, minerals, and omegas to fight inflammation. This makes it versatile enough to quell both acne and dryness. We know that Kate suffers from the latter when her pregnancy-related hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) strikes and leaves her skin dehydrated, so an endorsement from the royal means that the serum must really work - and fast. After all, Kate did take some time off from public appearances while battling HG, but it was less than a month until she was back in action - this could perhaps be a testament to such a responsive skincare regimen.

But of course, Kate's only one source, so we did a little research to see what nonroyals think of Beauty Sleep. From the looks of it, you don't need to be a duchess to reap the benefits of this nearly universally lauded product. Many people who suffer from rosacea swear by Beauty Sleep, with one fan writing, "This feels so good [that] after several days and nights I can tell a difference. I no longer need additional creams, only sun screen." According to another review, "This elixir has made my skin much more even, I can't wait to see what I look like when I wake up in the morning!!"

Duchess-worthy skin and a reason not to hit the snooze? We're so in.
