Here's the Lowdown on Glycolic Acid, Plus 10 Products That Put It in the Spotlight

If you haven't yet met glycolic acid, prepare to fall in love at first swatch. This superacid falls into the category of "alpha hydroxy acids" - or AHAs - which are naturally derived acids typically found in sugarcane, sugar beets, and fruit. Because a molecule of glycolic acid is smaller than its AHA counterparts (including lactic, mandelic, and citric acids), its particles are better able to penetrate the skin and are considered to be more effective.

"Glycolic acids are often used to treat acne scarring, skin discoloration, and signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles," explained Anita Sun, a medical esthetician and the founder of Dermovia. "It is also effective in treating skin conditions such as psoriasis, melasma, seborrheic keratosis, and keratosis pilaris."

In other words, it's really, really ridiculously good at resurfacing the skin. But that's not all!

Sun added, "Glycolic acid helps to boost collagen production and is effective in plumping the skin supporting healthy skin tissue to remain firm and prevents wrinkles from forming. It's also effective in removing surface dead skin cells and removing oil build up in pores."

By incorporating this ingredient into your skincare routine, you'll notice a brighter and more even complexion - sometimes in as little as 24 hours. If you need glycolic acid in your life, we've listed our favorite products ahead.

Pack a Different Healthy Lunch Every Day This Month With Over 30 Fresh Recipe Ideas

The holidays are almost upon us, but don't lose sight of your healthy goals! Kick-start your healthiest season yet and bring clean, wholesome, nutritious lunches to work.

From warming Fall soups to fresh salads and mason jar bowls, you can chill, reheat, and pack - meaning these meals are totally office-ready. Best part? They're low-calorie, high-protein, and made with whole, natural ingredients. Who's hungry?

This Is the No. 1 Reason You're Not Losing Weight

Working out, eating right, and still not seeing the results you're after? Nothing can be more frustrating. But CrossFit competitor Christmas Abbott, author of The Badass Body Diet ($28), knows what could be the issue.

"The biggest mistake people make when trying to lose weight is they restrict themselves too much," says Christmas. And this means not only the food choices people are making but also the amount they're eating. Christmas adds that when you deprive the body of food, it will go into starvation mode and store what food it does get as fat. But if the foods you are eating are all foods that you hate, Christmas warns that you "won't stick with the program, and the bigger picture of a lifestyle change is lost."

Your best bet is to try and find a happy medium between eating enough calories to keep you satiated, but enough to also create a calorie deficit to result in a pound or two lost a week. You can't live on kale alone, so be sure to include foods you love, and if they're not the healthiest, either find healthier ways to enjoy them - check out these lightened-up versions of your favorite comfort foods - or allow yourself just a small taste each day, say of chocolate, to satisfy your cravings. This way of eating will be much easier to maintain for a period of time, so you'll be more apt to stick with it and reach your goal.

Here's What - and When - to Eat Before Working Out

When it comes to working out, it's important to feel energized, but it's not always as simple as grabbing a snack on your way out the door. Eating too close to exercise is a recipe for discomfort, but heading to the gym hungry isn't ideal either.

To learn how to maximize the potential of a workout, I spoke with nutritionist Heidi Skolnik, MS, CDN, FACSM, and author of Nutrient Timing for Peak Performance ($20) to find out what to eat and when before heading to the gym.

And kids are no exception to the great astrological powers that be. So if you have a few little ones running around, this handy guide to bad behavior based on their zodiac sign will definitely enlighten you. Scroll through to see what's in store when it comes your kiddos misbehaving - and try your best to prepare.

Bésame's New Snow White Line Will Make You the Fairest One of All

The holidays just got even more magical thanks to Bésame Cosmetics. The vintage-inspired makeup brand teamed up with Disney to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' release with the launch of the Disney Snow White - The 1937 Collection.

The massive collection includes lipsticks, eye shadow palettes, and blushes inspired by the original colors used in the film. Bésame founder Gabriela Hernandez based the hues on the Disney Studio Ink and colors created for the film, instead of the more vivid hues we see in remastered editions of the animated film.

Disney fans will go gaga for the attention to detail that Bésame included in the collection. The standout product in the collection is The 1937 Storybook Palette ($68), which was previously available for presale at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA. The beautifully designed palette looks like a storybook and includes a cream and gold slip cover and green satin bookmark. When you remove the slip cover and open the palette, you unveil a large mirror and an illustration of the princess herself.

If that wasn't cute enough, the next page has written directions on how to achieve the princess's look and a peek behind the scenes of the palette's production. As you flip to the next page, a table of contents is revealed. This tells you exactly which colors in the palette were used on Snow White in the film and where the shades are seen in the movie.

The shadows themselves are beautifully muted hues, and the collection includes enough neutrals to utilize the palette every day. There are 20 shades total, making this palette well worth the price tag. Keep reading to see all the products in the massive collection, and head to Bésame's website next week to shop the makeup and get the perfect gift for the Disney fan in your life.

Swiss Cheese Nails Are a Thing, and the Look Is Hole-y Amazing

What Happens to the Tesseract in Thor: Ragnarok? I Think We All Know

Warning - Thor: Ragnarok spoilers below!

In Thor: Ragnarok, one of the big headlines by the end of the movie is that Asgard, Thor and Loki's home planet, has been destroyed by villains Hela and Surtur, so Thor has to take a giant craft full of his people to a new place. Meanwhile, throughout the movie, Loki goes from being chill to mischievous and back again, in sort of a roller coaster of betrayal. It certainly seems that Loki is back on the good side when he helps Thor get the Asgardians off of Asgard, but there's an open question at the end of the film that implicates Loki. That question is: what happens to the Tesseract Odin was storing in Asgard, the magical object that's popped up throughout Avengers movies?

While it's not revealed in the end credits, it's entirely obvious where that thing is: with Loki. Loki has been trying to get his grubby hands on the Tesseract since the first Thor movie, and he succeeds in stealing it in the first Avengers installment.

Toward the end of Raganarok, there's a pointed moment where Loki sees the cube while walking through Odin's treasure room, which would have been his chance to snag it. It's Thor who had brought it back to Asgard (along with Loki) to keep it safe, so there is a chance that Thor remembers to grab the cube before Asgard goes boom, but it doesn't seem to be top of mind for him. By not showing what happens to the infinity stone - and knowing it's too valuable to be destroyed - we can only assume that the prankster Loki has it hidden away somewhere. Hey, Loki can only be good for so long.

We should definitely find out the Tesseract's fate when Avengers: Infinity Wars comes out next May, since the villain Thanos is trying to get all the infinity stones - and that may be exactly why his ship pops up in the Ragnarok end credits.

Prepping food for the week is one of the most effective ways I stay on track when it comes to eating healthy and avoiding overeating. If I don't prep meals and snacks, dinner will end up being an entire bag of chips with guacamole or a pint of Ben & Jerry's almond milk ice cream (or both!). So to avoid that, these are the four recipes I prep every Sunday.

50 Hairstyles That Will Make You Look Younger (For Real!)

While beauty should be a stress- and judgment-free zone, aging isn't always. Often, hair can be the first giveaway of your age. If reversing the clock is high on your list of priorities, you should consider how your cut and color play into it all.

Of course, as with all aspects of our beauty, hair choices are personal. They're also very subjective. So let's throw out the idea of "age appropriate" - because, while short strands can make one person look more mature, the style can also visibly shave years off someone else. It's all about finding what works for you.

If you need a starting point, we asked two top hairstylists for their thoughts on the types of details that will help you look young, fresh, and trendy.

Here's How to Stick to a Workout Plan Once and For All

Faced with a seemingly endless supply of trendy new workouts that all promise a better body and improved health, choosing the best one can seem overwhelming. As a doctor, I'm setting the record straight: the single best exercise program is the one that you stick with. The simplest way to do this, of course, is to focus on physical activity that you actually enjoy and avoid anything that you hate (even if every Victoria's Secret model swears by it). But beyond common sense, there are plenty of science-backed methods for sticking to an exercise program. If you've ever had grand plans of overhauling your fitness routine only to find yourself returning to your couch three weeks later, these techniques are for you.

Shorten your workouts.

Though it sounds counterintuitive, focusing on shorter bouts of exercise has distinct advantages over longer workouts. In a study among young women who were asked to start an exercise program, those who were assigned to multiple 10-minute workouts throughout the day stayed more committed than women who were asked to complete one continuous workout of up to 40 minutes. In fact, the shorter-bout group logged more total workout time and exercised more days per week compared to the longer workout group. Rest assured: the cumulative effect of exercising in short bouts has the same physical benefits as longer workouts, both in terms of weight loss and overall heart health.

Believe in yourself.

Decades of studies on exercise psychology have consistently identified self-efficacy as the most important predictor of exercise adherence. Self-efficacy is defined as the belief in one's ability to succeed in a specific goal or behavior change, much like the "I think I can" motto of the little engine that could. Self-efficacy is, thankfully, not an inborn trait but a learned skill that can be developed through achieving small successes over time. When starting a new exercise program, set yourself up for small wins and celebrate them. Focus on the better night's sleep you may get after just one workout instead of the weight you hope to lose by the end of the month. Another way to improve self-efficacy is to find a role model you identify with who has achieved her fitness goals. Research shows this can vicariously bolster your own self-efficacy.

Make it social.

Though it's not surprising, the dramatic effect of social support on exercise is worth emphasizing. In an analysis of 44 studies on exercise adherence, researchers found that it was highest when it involved a group, like a sports team or a dance group. Drop-in fitness classes were associated with slightly lower adherence, but they were still superior to solo, home-based exercise programs. Even if home-based exercise is your only feasible option, you can still harness the power of social support by recruiting a family member or friend to work out with you or harnessing the power of an online community. Some studies even suggest that simply discussing your plans to exercise with a healthcare provider, mentor, or friend can increase your likelihood of following through with it.

Adopt other healthy habits.

A handful of studies have demonstrated that people who prioritize eating a healthy diet are more likely to be active. The theory is that engaging in one health-promoting behavior tends to inspire others, and although the link is strongest between healthy eating habits and exercise, it's likely that any healthy behavior - like getting a full night's sleep or even flossing your teeth - can increase your probability of following through with exercise.

Keep your expectations in check.

If you expect to see a physical transformation within the first few weeks of starting an exercise program, you may be less likely to keep at it. Studies of new exercisers have found that those with unrealistic expectations of physical change tended to give up when their hopes were not immediately met. Health psychologists have dubbed this the "false hope syndrome." To avoid it, remember that noticeable physical changes from a new exercise routine can take months to develop. And if your goal is weight loss, it's important to know that exercise alone - without dietary changes - typically isn't enough. What you can expect from exercise, however, are short-term improvements in mood and sleep and, in the long term, a dramatically reduced risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, dementia, and several different types of cancer. How's that for motivation?

A Weight-Loss Expert Says You Should Eat These Snacks After Lifting Weights

Because the two workouts are so different, the kind of food you eat right after a weight-training session will be different than what you might eat after you do cardio. When you're doing strength training, the goal is to build muscle mass, which will boost your metabolism and ultimately help you shed fat, and you need the right diet to help you accomplish that. That means you have to make sure you're getting enough protein, as well as a healthy dose of complex carbs.

POPSUGAR spoke to Dr. Luiza Petre, a board-certified cardiologist and weight-management specialist, to get her recommendations on post-workout snacks. "It is important to replace your energy stores and rebuild your muscle with protein after an intense workout," she said. "Always eat within 45 minutes of finishing a workout. A post-workout snack is the perfect time to consume your smart carbs for the day." So even if your goal is weight loss, that doesn't mean you should deprive yourself of food, particularly after a workout.

These are the five expert-approved snacks you should consider eating when you're done with the barbell.

Protein Shake With Half an Apple

This duo gives you "ample protein combined with a carbohydrate," according to Dr. Petre. Use whatever protein powder you love most, whether it's a plant-based one or one that's made from whey. As long as it's made with whole ingredients and no artificial stuff, it'll do the job. "The recommended serving size of one scoop of whey protein powder combined with water and half an apple is 150 calories," she explained.

Of course, you could make this with almond milk, but Dr. Petre lays out this particular recipe because it's lower in calories. She includes the apple in there because, while you know you need protein after a workout, including complex, natural carbs like fruit "is also required to train on - and for recuperation."

Tuna on 1 Slice of Whole-Wheat Low-Carb Wrap

"Carbs and protein together have a better post-workout recovery response," Dr. Petre explained. "Tuna drizzled with a little olive oil and lemon juice rolled into a low-carb whole-wheat pita is the perfect carb and protein mini meal." More specifically, she recommends four ounces of water-packed tuna, and when you combine it with the wrap, it will come out to about 160 calories.

Lean Turkey, Cheese, and Grapes

Sounds pretty yummy, right? "No bread needed - the fillings will be filling on their own," Dr. Petre said. If you spread a triangle of soft cheese on two or three slices of lean turkey (not the packaged kind, though), you get a "quick snack loaded with protein." Plus, the grapes will give you the good carbs your body needs. Dr. Petre estimates that this snack would only cost you about 185 calories.

Medium Baked Sweet Potato With Grilled Chicken or Tofu

Sweet potatoes are high in fiber, help to regulate your blood sugar, and are full of the best kinds of carbs known to humankind. They also taste naturally sweet, so they'll quell your sugar cravings for the day. Dr. Petre suggests you pair a baked sweet potato with three ounces of grilled chicken or tofu, which will come out to about 175 calories.

Greek Yogurt and Fresh Berries

"Replace the amino acids you depleted after a workout with protein to help recovery," she said. "Low-fat Greek yogurt contains nearly 15 grams of protein." When you toss in half a cup of strawberries and blueberries, you'll give yourself a boost of energy as well. Keep in mind the serving size for Greek yogurt is one eight-ounce container.

The Ultimate Tush-Toning Yoga Sequence

We all know that yoga can increase your flexibility, but it turns out that many poses work your butt, too. If your backside could use a little tightening, try this yoga sequence. Work through the entire series on your right side first, and then repeat on the left side.

9 Easy Beauty Routine Swaps You MUST Make Once You're Pregnant

Being pregnant comes with lots of annoying lifestyle changes, but there was one I was actually excited about: cleaning up my beauty routine. Getting that positive pregnancy test motivated me to double-check the ingredients in my everyday personal care products and swap out any that posed a risk to me or the fetus growing inside. My desire to reduce pregnancy side effects like stretch marks and melasma also had me researching safe and effective products that would address those specific issues. In other words, pregnancy gave me a chance to test and stock up on new beauty favorites. For a beauty junkie like me, this was a positive pregnancy side effect.

If you're pregnant or thinking about it, you'll want to take a good look at your beauty routine, too. "We should avoid risky ingredients at all stages of our lives," said Paul Pestano, a senior database analyst for the Environmental Working Group, an organization that researches and educates consumers about toxins in personal care products. "However, pregnancy may be a period in which women should be particularly careful."

Pestano told me that the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine warn that exposure to toxic chemicals before conception and during pregnancy can have significant and long-lasting effects on reproductive health. Problems can include infertility, low birth weight, and preterm birth - not risks worth taking for your makeup. Luckily, you just have to swap out potentially harmful products and swap in these safe and effective options. Happy shopping, mama!

How I Kicked My 20-Year-Long Nail-Biting Habit For Good

"I feel sorry for your fingers." Those were the six words that came out of the woman's mouth when she took my hands to try and bless them with a manicure for my wedding. Can I get an ouch?

As painful as that sentence was to take in - especially so close to my big day - truth be told, it was just what I needed to hear to recognize how out of control my nail-biting habit had become. See, I've been a nail-biter for 20-some long years. Looking back, I can't recall how this grotesque, compulsive habit even started, but it's one that has followed me well into adulthood.

It's embarrassing, to say the least - and honestly, I don't think many people realized how much the constant urge to pick, pull, or bite at my fingernails consumed me. But really, that was my goal, because every time I'd shred my cuticles to the point where they'd be dripping with blood - gross, I know - I'd hide each wounded finger so no one would notice. Because what sane person nips at their nail (and the skin around it) until red liquid oozes out, right? To make matters worse, I would feel strangely satisfied each time this happened.

If you are also a chronic nail-biter, I'm hoping you can relate. (By hoping, what I really mean is: please tell me you've experienced similar scenarios so I don't feel too crazy.) And if by chance you are nodding your head in agreement, please know that I, too, feel your pain. What's more? I've got good news for you.

After years of searching high and low for an effective nail-biting solution - and literally trying every single program under the sun - I finally found a method that actually worked. Although it was one of the hardest challenges I've endured, I'm confident that if I can nip this nasty habit in the bud, anyone can.

So if you're ready to quit biting your nails once and for all - and, let's be real, who isn't? - your guide to beautiful hands awaits ahead!

OMG, This Tarte Vault Is a Really, Really, Ridiculously Good Deal

If you're a makeup-lover, the holidays are a time of reaching for the stars, budget-wise. While your wish list might include more zeros than your paycheck does (fairy godmother, I want this 50-piece, $1,980 Tom Ford lipstick collection, and I want it now), it doesn't have to be that way. In fact, as Tarte's latest vault proves, budget beauty can be just as fabulous - and opulent.

Take, for instance, this Tartelette Vault ($100), which includes the Matte, In Bloom, and brand-new Toasted Palette, all for much less than the kits would retail separately.

If you're palette-obsessed, you probably live for the days you bring home another set of powders to add to your collection - well, imagine the delight in bringing home (or unwrapping) three! Two of the sets (Matte and In Bloom) are old favorites. Matte is somewhat of a "desert island" palette that features 12 versatile, creamy, and everyday shades.

In Bloom has the same amount of shades in similar hues but kicks things up a notch because these colors include shimmer, metallic, and darker options.

Since Toasted only just dropped earlier this month, perhaps you haven't had time to try it out just yet. But now is definitely the season for this collection of 12 burnt, fiery shades, as the shimmer options are perfect for holiday parties and feeling yourself this Fall.

Bought individually, these palettes would cost a total of $134. With this limited-edition vault, you can get things for a considerably cheaper price. We did the math, and with this deal, each shadow comes out to about $3. Of course, each of these kits will last you about two years, making the Tartelette Vault a pretty cost-effective option.

Looking fabulous for less than the price of your morning coffee? Happy holidays, indeed.

Jaw-Dropping Then-and-Now Photos of the Twin Sisters Who Gave Birth 15 Minutes Apart

Twin sisters Corey Struve Talbott and Katie Struve Morgan knew they were expecting their babies 10 days apart, but when they unexpectedly gave birth on the same day and within just 15 minutes of each other, they couldn't have been more shocked. Before giving birth to Indie Mae and Ryatt Rae, Corey and Katie took stunning maternity photos in blue gowns to commemorate going through pregnancy at the same time. A year later, the sisters slipped on the same dresses and grabbed their 1-year-old girls to re-create their maternity shoot.

"I photographed Corey and Katie's maternity photos last year. I thought it was so sweet that two sisters got to experience such a special time together," Brenden Boggs of So Cute Photo told POPSUGAR. "Even though their due dates were a few weeks apart, they ended up giving birth on the same day only 15 minutes apart! We all joke that they are twin-cousins!"

With Indie and Ryatt celebrating their first birthdays, Brenden thought it would be fun to re-create Corey and Katie's maternity shoot with the girls, and the twins loved the idea. "We were cracking up at how loose the dresses were," Corey told POPSUGAR of the now-iconic blue dresses.

"It was so much fun to see how much life can change in a year," Brenden said. "Now Corey and Katie have two beautiful baby girls full of personality, and they all can't wait to see what adventures the next year of toddlerhood brings!"

Ahead, see the gorgeous photos Brenden took of the moms and their little ones plus a YouTube video of the twins' birth stories, and follow Indie and Ryatt on Instagram for daily doses of cuteness.

17 Photos That Prove Blonde Works on Every Skintone

We tend to be so attached to our hair that even the merest cut or trim can spark months of mourning until the lost inches grow back. That's even more true when it comes to color. Despite the popularity of bright hair color trends inspired by everything from Fruity Pebbles to candy floss, the idea of going blonde is still a bold move many shy away from. If you're on the fence about adopting the bold color, let your inhibitions go, and let the following beauties inspire you to become a bottle blonde.

Why Every Woman Should Incorporate Strength Training Into Her Routine

Everyone has a different attitude about how they approach the gym. While some ladies love to log a 45-minute run on the treadmill while watching the latest Real Housewives, others are more class-prone, crushing HIIT routines on the regular. Regardless, there's one place a lot of women breeze by: the weight rack. While we can't hate on you for wanting to avoid grunting men and an occasional whiff of poor body odor, fact is that you could be missing out on some serious total-body benefits by ditching the dumbbells. Strength training, or practicing loaded movement with the intent of increasing quality, health, and muscle development, is essential. Not just for helping you feel like a total badass (look at you, Wonder Woman, eyeing that 15-pounder) but also for your body.

Don't just take our word for it; research agrees. Within a few days of beginning a strength-training plan, research shows that women may notice a raise in their resting metabolic rate. "Developing muscle increases the body's efficiency on many stances, one of which is a healthy metabolism," said David Otey, Equinox Sports Club personal training manager. "This aids in everything from better posture and movement quality to performance of everyday activities."

But wait, there's more. Lifting weights also helps to build muscle and increase bone density. Been down in the dumps? Adding regular strength training to your routine can boost your mood. The best part: the weights don't even need to be Arnold Schwarzenegger status. Lifting lighter weights can be super effective at building muscle. Just make sure you're still causing muscle fatigue. For newbies just starting to incorporate strength training into their exercise routines, try adding some strength work three or four days per week for up to 40 minutes at a time.

Ready to get lifting? Try this easy arm-specific strength workout, courtesy of Otey. A word to the wise: don't forget to incorporate rest into your routine (about 48 hours before training the same muscle group twice). Rest days are essential for three reasons: they give your body time to repair and get stronger, help prevent injury, and offer you a mental break.

Instructions: Complete all sets of each before moving on to the following exercise. Start with 8-pound dumbbells, and increase from there depending on your comfort level with the movements.

Dumbbell Shoulder Press

Do: 4 sets, 15 reps
Stand with your feet hip-distance apart and pick up the weights, holding the dumbbells so your palms are face down. Lift up your weights until they are at your shoulders, palms facing forward, with elbows bent at a 90-degree angle.Raise your arms until elbows are extended, moving weights until they almost touch above your head. Slowly return back to starting position for one rep.

Hammer Curl
Do: 4 sets, 12 reps
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart with arms down at your sides holding dumbbells, palms facing in. Keeping your palms facing in, bend your elbow to raise one arm to shoulder level then lower it back to waist level (think of using a hammer). Repeat with the other side to complete one rep.

Triceps Kickback
Do: 4 sets, 15 reps
Holding a dumbbell in each hand, hinge forward from your hips, bending the knees slightly. Bend your elbows behind you. Straighten your arms behind you with your palms facing in. Your arms should be parallel to the floor. Squeeze your triceps, and then return to the starting position for one rep.

From Her Engagement to 2017, This Is Queen Letizia of Spain's Style Evolution

There's a clear difference in Queen Letizia of Spain's style from the moment it was first announced that the TV reporter (then known as Letizia Ortiz) was engaged to Prince Felipe, back in 2003, to today. During her first years as princess of Spain, Letizia kept a conservative look, wearing pantsuits, high necklines, and demure gowns, much like she did during her journalist days. But in the past couple of years, the queen has taken more risks, giving her style a modern turn in body-hugging dresses, printed skirts and pants, and Disney-worthy gowns. See the royal's transformation ahead, then check out her best moments with the king.

Try Solving This Riddle That Is Making the Internet Go Crazy

Ready for a brain workout? There's a mother-daughter riddle circulating the internet that's making people go absolutely crazy trying to solve it. The seemingly simple riddle reads as follows:

If Teresa's daughter is my daughter's mother, what am I to Teresa?

It's a viral riddle that got people talking months ago when 22 Words introduced it to the world, and people are still talking about it because it's that confusing! We'll give you a few minutes to think on it for yourself before spoiling the answer.

Source: Rede Globo / Giphy

To narrow down the answer choices, 22 Words turned it into a multiple-choice question with the following options: grandmother, mother, daughter, granddaughter, or "I am Teresa." And according to the site, the answer is . . . drum roll, please . . . daughter. As in, the riddle is just a fancier way of saying, "I am my mother's daughter." When you think about it, the statement could read this way: "I am Teresa's daughter, and I am my daughter's mother." Teresa is the mother of the person asking the question. If you're struggling to visualize the breakdown of the relationship, check out this mother-daughter flow chart that explains it.

Does your brain hurt?! Same.

This Kindergarten Shamed 1 Mom For Her "Unacceptable" Snack: Raisins

After packing her little one what she considered to be an appropriate snack, one mom is sharing the surprising note that her child came home from kindergarten with.

The mom from Australia first shared the note on a closed Facebook group, and it has since gone viral for its criticism of dried fruit. "Please help us to encourage nutritious eating habits in children. Our healthy eating policy asks you to provide healthy and nutritious snacks for your child to eat at kindy," the note read. "The sultanas (golden raisins) packed for your child today are unacceptable at kindy due to its high sugar content."

Many parents are shocked at this school's response to the lunch, but nobody is as surprised as the mom who received the note. "This must be a joke? Of course they are high in sugar, they are fruit," she wrote in her Facebook post's caption, according to Kidspot. "Today's lunch consisted of a sandwich roll, two boiled eggs, an orange, kiwi fruit, and a handful of sultanas. She never has packaged food in her lunchbox or anything with refined sugar."

Kathryn Hawkins, a dietitian and mom, came to the parent's defense over this lunch shaming, which so many other well-intentioned moms and dads have faced recently, because she wants it to stop. "If your child enjoys sultanas and feels happy when eating them, then that is a great choice for them. If you are a busy working household and grabbing a box of sultanas for the lunchbox makes it a bit easier for you, then it is a great choice for you," she wrote on Facebook. "You DO NOT have to feel one bit guilty for putting a box of sultanas in your child's lunch and you DO NOT have to 'explain' why."

Oh, So This Is the $65 Magic Kate Middleton Puts on Her Skin to Look So Dang Great

We're not quite sure if army pants and flip-flops are Kensington Palace-approved, but something tells us that if Kate were to wear the combo, just like in Mean Girls, we'd go out and buy the same. From the lily of the valley perfume she wore to her wedding (you may not be a royal, but you can sure smell like one) to the Trilogy Rose Hip Oil she reportedly hoards (that costs a very cool $29), any product the duchess decides to use is fair game for selling out. And for good reason - you will never see Kate looking anything less than perfect, especially when it comes to her glowing skin.

As it turns out, one serum that has (reportedly) earned its place on the expectant royal's vanity is the Beuti Skincare Beauty Sleep Elixir ($65), which boasts a pretty impressive list of claims. For one, the gel works while you sleep, which is honestly enough for the lazy girls among us to click "add to cart" right away. But because Kate knows her stuff, there's so much more to this serum than its convenience factor.

For one, the paraben-free and plant-based formula is concocted with a mix of vitamins, minerals, and omegas to fight inflammation. This makes it versatile enough to quell both acne and dryness. We know that Kate suffers from the latter when her pregnancy-related hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) strikes and leaves her skin dehydrated, so an endorsement from the royal means that the serum must really work - and fast. After all, Kate did take some time off from public appearances while battling HG, but it was less than a month until she was back in action - this could perhaps be a testament to such a responsive skincare regimen.

But of course, Kate's only one source, so we did a little research to see what nonroyals think of Beauty Sleep. From the looks of it, you don't need to be a duchess to reap the benefits of this nearly universally lauded product. Many people who suffer from rosacea swear by Beauty Sleep, with one fan writing, "This feels so good [that] after several days and nights I can tell a difference. I no longer need additional creams, only sun screen." According to another review, "This elixir has made my skin much more even, I can't wait to see what I look like when I wake up in the morning!!"

Duchess-worthy skin and a reason not to hit the snooze? We're so in.

7 Surprising Reasons You Have Dark Circles Under Your Eyes

We all know that a night or two of minimal sleep or putting in extra hours at the office can leave you looking more tired than usual. If you're used to seeing dark, puffy eyes upon waking up in the morning, listen up: there might be a few surprising reasons those circles are forming. While you can't exactly erase the aging process, with some lifestyle changes, you can slow it down and brighten your skin - no concealer required. Ahead, two top dermatologists break down which daily habits could be culprits and how to get rid of dark circles ASAP.

7 Habits I Had to Form to Finally Lose the Weight

I've always been an active person, but when I gained 15 pounds after getting an IUD, I had to get real about my diet and workouts. I hired a personal trainer at Equinox, and remarkably, she didn't tell me to download a calorie-counting app or work me until I dropped. Her tips for weight loss proved to be practical and therefore achievable. I lost four percent body fat in three months and felt stronger than I ever have in my life. I now can squat and deadlift my weight! I can fit in my skinny jeans again. The thing is . . . I did have to makes some big changes to my daily routine to lose the weight, and now there's no going back.

1. Strength Train With Cardio

Before Equinox, yoga was my main form of exercise. Though I was going five days a week, I didn't feel like I was getting stronger. Enter my personal trainer. She recommended strength training as my number one priority followed by cardio. I strength trained two to three times a week and did cardio two times a week (usually on the StairMaster). For my active rest days, I did yoga or Pilates two times a week. I also started walking an upward of seven miles several days a week.

2. Challenge Myself at Every Workout

My trainer encouraged me to increase the weight I lifted almost every week, even just a smidge, like two pounds. I resisted at first. After all, over the holidays, I broke a capillary in my eye from lifting too much weight. However, my trainer started me out with low weights and slowly increased the amount. I surprised myself by how quickly I was able to keep up and even found myself asking for more. The same rule here applies for cardio, yoga, and Pilates. I find a little way to challenge myself each time, whether it is increasing the mileage, holding side plank for longer, or perfecting my 100 series with straight legs.

3. Cut Out Sugar

Working out is only part of the equation. Diet is even more important, my trainer told me. I had to break my sugar addiction. I decided to stop cold turkey: no sugar, honey, agave, etc. Though some people say it's the worst thing ever, saying "no" to sugar countless times throughout the day helped me feel strong, like I was in charge - not my cravings. I also had to pay attention to nutrition labels and avoid anything with more than four grams of sugar. Dried fruit, as it turns out, is a sugar bomb! As are smoothies from smoothie joints. Sugar lurks in many unexpected places.

4. Choose Protein and Fat Instead of Carbs

If unchecked, I will eat over 50 percent of my calories in carbs. But that wasn't really working out for me. Though challenging, I reframed my meals so they consisted of mostly protein and healthy fats. I would have bulletproof coffee and smoked salmon with avocado for breakfast rather than a bowl of cereal or oatmeal. For lunch, it's veggie-chicken soup or salads loaded with diced chicken or canned tuna. Dinner consists of baked fish, steak, or chicken with a plate full of veggies (usually roasted broccoli). During the in-between times when I was hungry, I skipped my usual snack of dried fruit or crackers and make a protein shake (Moon Juice Blue Adaptogen plus water) or ate a spoonful of raw almond butter instead.

5. Stop Drinking Alcohol

Over the last year, I started drinking more days out of the week than not - usually just one to two drinks, yet it was enough to cause me to put on the pounds. While weight training, I discovered that even one drink would cause my DOMS to flare up and last for days. However, if I didn't drink, I could recover very quickly, usually within a day. Though I am not 100 percent dry, I always seem to regret drinking the next day, so I've cut way back and reserve drinking for special occasions.

6. Schedule My Carbs For Before and After Workouts

"I lost 10 pounds just by scheduling my carbs around my workouts," my friend told me. Inspired by that, I wanted to follow suit, and my trainer supported that mentality. I would eat brown rice, whole-wheat crackers, fruit, potatoes, and beans before or after a workout and limited my carb intake the other times of the day. If, in the afternoon, I experienced a huge slump (and protein/nut butter didn't help), I'd have a small serving of plain popcorn for a little boost.

7. Cook Mostly at Home, but Plan For Meals Out

I prepared almost all my meals at home and kept things simple. I kept the kitchen stocked with frozen meat, canned tuna, and vegetables galore. I used an Instant Pot to make big batches of brown rice, oatmeal, beans, and lentils on Sunday to last me through the week. That said, my trainer said it's OK to have one off day of the week where you may indulge in the bad stuff, whether it be a cocktail or chips with queso, french fries, a cheese plate, etc. So, six out of seven days, I'd have an A+ diet, while the seventh day, I might indulge in a slice of pizza or an IPA. I found letting loose (just a bit) and having a cheat day helped me stay on track and feel balanced.

Before-and-After Photo of Kindergartener's First-Day-of-School Hair Is Going Viral

Markeisha Simien sent her daughter, Charle-feigh, off to her first day of kindergarten wearing her school uniform and a beautifully braided hairdo. From the look of her Facebook photos, the mom takes great pride in doing her 5-year-old's hair and likely expected to see her daughter sporting the same intricate 'do on her way home later that day. However, Markeisha was surprised to see her girl walk out of class with quite a different style - one a bit more . . . disheveled, to say the least - and is even more shocked that her daughter is going viral because of it.

The mom posted a side-by-side photo of Charle-feigh's hair to social media, but was overwhelmed by the response to her girl's "before and after school chronicles." Luckily for us, Markeisha decided to repost the photo and is embracing the laughs her girl's hairdo is bringing to complete strangers.

"Thanks everyone! She is really a joy! But I lost it all yesterday when I saw her hair!" Markeisha wrote in a comment on the photo. "I was upset, true! But me and my baby laughed together at her hair redo!"

Markeisha says she has started asking Charle-feigh every day if she's going to play with her hair again, and though the girl says "no," the mom has a feeling her child is probably lying. Here's hoping Markeisha's right and that more hilariously adorable before-and-after photos of Charle-feigh come about as a result.

There's a Reason This Wine Advent Calendar Totally Sold Out Last Year

I'm already a huge fan of Vinebox, a wine-by-the-glass subscription service that serves up vino in cool single-serve vials. So when I found out that the company is bringing back its "Twelve Nights of Wine" calendar again in 2017, I immediately hopped online to preorder my own. The glass-a-night advent calendar was so popular last year that it completely sold out within four weeks, and it's easy to see why.

Advent calendars are easily the best part of the holiday season. Free sh*t simply for waking up in the morning? Count me in, man. As a kid, I lived for the chocolate-filled advent calendars, giving me an excuse to have at least a tiny bit of dessert every day even when my parents were trying to teach me restraint. (An effort that clearly didn't work, considering that I write about cheesecake for a living now.) But now that I'm an adult, there's only one type of calendar that'll do as I count down to Christmas: the kind that's filled with booze.

Anyway, this is a great option for wine-lovers who can't get their hands on Aldi's popular, UK-exclusive advent calendar. The selection of 12 specially curated wines runs for $129 and comes in a special holiday box. Because of its popularity in 2016, Vinebox is offering the calendar on preorder starting Oct. 1 - which means you can set yourself up for a Winter of wine very soon.

30 Tiny, Chic Wrist Tattoos That Are Better Than a Bracelet

If you truly want to wear your heart on your sleeve, then the wrist should be the canvas for your next tattoo. A flat plane fairly easy to tattoo, the wrist is popular for first-timers and small designs or sayings. While the wrist is generally a more visible tattoo spot than, say, the ribs or back, this placement allows for easy coverage with foundations or bracelets - making it an ideal choice for those who might be slightly tentative to get inked in a more prominent location. Conversely, we're also partial to the wrist because of its visibility: the conspicuousness of this spot is perfect for tattoos meant to serve as a source of inspiration, support, or reminder.

But don't just take our word for it - check out these gorgeous pieces of wrist ink to get some serious tattoo inspiration.

When to Stash or Trash Important Papers

Some of us are pack rats by default; we don't know how long to keep what we think are important documents, so we store them in boxes indefinitely. Clueless clutter makes it difficult to find something when you actually need to reference it. Stop storing trash, and get organized when you learn how long you should hold onto certain papers.

Can Strength Training Reduce Belly Fat? A Scientist Weighs In

While we know that cardio is an excellent way to burn fat, we wanted to know how working with weights can contribute to a whittled middle and washboard abs. So how can we blast belly fat with strength training?

Nicole Aurigemma, physiologist at the Penn State Muscle Biology Lab, told us not only how to burn more calories during a workout (in part by doing some weight training first), but she also gave POPSUGAR insight into how we can flatten our stomachs with some deadlifting, leg presses (crazy, right?), and general resistance training.

Here are four major benefits that come with working with weights and training with some resistance!

  • More resistance training, more fat burning. "It has been shown that energy expenditure, as well as fat oxidation, increases after multiple sets of resistance exercise, particularly when larger muscle masses are exercised," said Nicole (larger muscle groups are located in the legs - think glutes, quads, etc!). "Think leg press versus chest press," she said. Who knew that a flat belly starts with the legs?
  • Your body is burning more calories. "Post-exercise, your body is using up more of its fuel stores, therefore burning more calories," she explained. So even after you're done with a sweat-sesh in the weight room, your body is burning, burning, burning up the calories!
  • Your body uses fat while you're resting, too. "Since resistance exercise increases post-exercise fat oxidation," (fat oxidation = your body breaking down fat into energy) "your body is using more fat. This is very favorable for weight loss." Because, when you say you want to lose weight, you really want to be losing fat and gaining metabolism-boosting muscles.
  • You'll see results quickly. Nicole noted that the fat oxidation and fat loss happen quickly, "even after just one gym session." She told POPSUGAR that "increased energy expenditure [burning calories] and fat oxidation [burning fat] last at least 24 hours after [even one session of] exercise, so imagine how much fat you could be using and calories you'll be burning if you have regimented resistance training!"

So let's get this straight, more fat burning, more calorie burning, burning even when you're resting . . . and fast results? Let's grab those weights!

Before you get burnin', a couple things to keep in mind: "You could actually gain a little muscle mass before you start to lose weight," said Nicole, "but this doesn't mean you aren't losing fat mass." She also said it's important to note that "You could lift all you want, but if you eat crap, you won't see results." So while a flat belly is made in the weight room, it's also made in the kitchen. Need some inspiration? Try our flat-belly salad and flat-belly smoothie.

Have You Noticed Kate Middleton Always Wears This 1 Color of Nail Polish?

While we ramp up for a holiday season of bright red nail polish and glitter topcoats, Kate Middleton, like all royals before her, will reportedly refrain from such extra manis. In fact, it's actually rumored to be part of Kate's job description to keep her nails nude. According to British tabloid OK!, royal protocol demands it.

But as we've seen before, that doesn't mean Kate can't wear anything on her nails. In fact, she's somewhat of an Essie aficionado. She rocked a mix of the brand's Rose Lounge (pour one out for this sadly discontinued soft pink) and Allure ($9) at her 2011 wedding to Prince William. She's not alone in her love for the drugstore line - Queen Elizabeth has been wearing the same shade of Essie in Ballet Slippers ($9) for 29 years. This pinky nude hue was created when the queen's hairdresser wrote to brand founder Essie Weingarten in 1988, requesting a bespoke shade for her majesty.

Of course, this rule only applies to public functions (aka pretty much whenever Kate Middleton steps outside of Kensington Palace). So perhaps when she's not being watched, Kate paints on metallics and dances around like she's gone rogue à la that classic 1998 Disney film, My Date With the President's Daughter. Probably not, but a girl can dream.

Ahead, find four nude shades you can rock while you princess-wave.

How to Wear Lavender Eye Shadow, Fall 2017's Hottest Celeb-Loved Trend

We've already seen pastel purple highlighters taking off this season, and now the color trend is coming for our eyes too. At the recent InStyle Awards, both Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez arrived wearing matching lavender shadow. But they aren't the only ones: Rita Ora just wore the look at an MTV TRL visit and Rihanna did at one of her Fenty launch parties. Perhaps the trend is a result of lasting influence from the unicorn beauty phenomenon. Perhaps it's premature excitement for Winter's frosty color palettes. Either way, we're 100 percent on board.

"I love that lavender is feminine, edgy, and chic all at the same time. It really pops against brown eyes," celebrity makeup artist Jill Powell, who did Demi's look, told POPSUGAR. Inspired by the singer's lavender dress and "chic rocker vibe," she mixed together two cream shadows to create the vibrant purple hue: Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Color Paint Shadows ($25) in M-90 Matte Purple and I-80 Iridescent Pink Beige. She also layered Amethyst from Kat Von D's Alchemist Holographic Palette ($32) on top to create an iridescent finish.

If you plan to try the look, Jill suggested having the rest of your makeup low-key. "I love to keep focus on one area for the most part. When bringing in colorful shadows, I love to keep the rest of the face more natural so it acts as the backdrop for the colorful shadows," she explained.

Jill also assured that any skin tone can pull off lavender. "Work with the depth of your tones," she advised. "Lighter skin tones should use lighter shades, and deeper skin tones should use deeper hues to coincide with the depth of their skin and avoid looking too light or ashy."

Now that you've got all the expert tricks, see more examples of lavender eye shadow from celebs and shop the trend at every price point ahead.
