The Trump Family Is Bankrupting the Secret Service, Because Vacations

It's no secret that President Donald Trump is used to a certain kind of lifestyle. From weekly trips to Mar-a-Lago at $3.6 million a pop to a 17-day "working vacation" at his New Jersey golf club, it's also clear that he hasn't made any attempts to tamp down his jet-setting since taking office. But while bankrolling the gallivanting of a real estate developer or reality television star was Trump's prerogative before he took office, he's now reliant on the federal government and the taxpayers to foot the bill. To make matters worse, his entire family requires security protection when they travel. And like the president himself, none of them can stay still for very long. As a result, countless people have tried to slow the Trump family's roll - none of whom have found any sort of lasting success. That is, until now.

On Aug. 21, USA Today reported that the Secret Service budget had been depleted and "more than 1,000 agents have already hit the federally mandated caps for salary and overtime allowances that were meant to last the entire year." That's right: it's August, and the Trumps have officially maxed out the budget for their protection. While some of the weight can be shifted to the fact that Trump has 11 more people under protection than the previous administration did, it's hard to explain away some of the more egregious spends. Take, for example, "some $60,000 on golf cart rentals alone," the costs associated with Melania and Barron Trump spending the majority of this year living in the heart of Manhattan, or the fact that "Eric Trump's business travel to Uruguay cost the Secret Service nearly $100,000 just for hotel rooms."

"I would rarely leave the White House because there's so much work to be done. I would not be a president who took vacations. I would not be a president that takes time off," Trump told a reporter back in 2015. And now, as the director of the Secret Service pleads his case on the Hill for a budget increase and the overtime can't be stacked up any further, Trump may soon have to do something completely out of character: be true to his word.

Here's What - and When - to Eat Before Working Out

When it comes to working out, it's important to feel energized, but it's not always as simple as grabbing a snack on your way out the door. Eating too close to exercise is a recipe for discomfort, but heading to the gym hungry isn't ideal either.

To learn how to maximize the potential of a workout, I spoke with nutritionist Heidi Skolnik, MS, CDN, FACSM, and author of Nutrient Timing for Peak Performance ($20) to find out what to eat and when before heading to the gym.

The Truth Behind Costco’s $5 Rotisserie Chicken

Image Source: Flickr user terren in Virginia

We can always count on Dr. Oz to expose the truth about our favorite foods. He recently investigated the hidden ingredients in rotisserie chicken, and now we finally know why it's so addictive. He teamed up with award-winning writer Mark Schatzker to figure out why Americans can't get enough of the stuff, especially Costco's $5 rotisserie chicken.

The first shocking piece of information is that rotisserie chicken is often processed, in other words, "pre-seasoned in factories," and then shipped to supermarkets, where "an employee can put it on the skewer and cook it." You may already know part of what makes store-bought rotisserie chickens so tasty is that they're on the salty side, but the skin is also flavored with MSG and sugar, among other natural flavors. Similar to potato chips, this combination helps explain why we can never have too much rotisserie chicken. Despite the seemingly scariness of it all, Dr. Oz says it may be "one of the healthiest processed foods out there." And in similar Dr. Oz. fashion, he suggests taking off the skin to keep it healthier. But if that sounds like insanity, add other sides to your plate to avoid overeating.

Here's What Happens When You Ask Americans to Locate North Korea on a Map

President Donald Trump threatened to unleash "fire and fury" on North Korea on Aug. 8, leaving many wondering if the ongoing war of words between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un might be taking a more serious turn. But while Twitter was biting its nails and preparing for the apocalypse, our country's late-night shows took an altogether different tack: they lambasted the hell out of the whole scenario. The real winner of the night, however, was Jimmy Kimmel.

Kimmel and his crew took to the streets of Los Angeles armed with the knowledge that, according to a new CNN poll, 50 percent of Americans believe that action needed to be taken against North Korea. His task? To figure out just how many people can identify where the country - one which 72 percent of those polled believe is capable of a strike against the US - is located on a map. And it should come as no surprise that a whole lot of people had almost no idea what the answer to that question was.

There may still be a whole lot of uncertainty about just how this whole scenario will shake out, but it's abundantly clear that as a country we really need to spend a bit more time buried in some geography textbooks - or at least not weigh in on foreign policy before we've done so.

4 Reasons Your Home Is Giving You Anxiety - and How to Fix Them

When wanting to design a welcoming family home, we often look for outside inspiration: magazines, Pinterest, and social media. But interior designer Jessica McClendon, founder of Glamour Nest, does things differently. She looks deep inside her clients, putting their emotional needs first and foremost in every design she does.

Jessica explained, "The truth is, we don't just decorate to have a beautiful home. While it's a nice side effect, the need comes from a much deeper desire to share life and ourselves with the people we love. That's why if you attempt to follow the latest decorating trends simply because it's what everyone else is doing, you won't truly be happy with the result. Will it look pretty? Totally. But if your emotional needs are not being met, it won't feel like a home."

If Jessica's words are setting off alarms in your head as to why your home just doesn't put you at ease despite all the beautiful decor you've filled it with, read on. Ahead, Jessica explains common reasons your home may be giving you anxiety and how to fix them.

You Won't Believe These Are Even the Same White Sneakers Thanks to This Cleaning Hack

Image Source: Unsplash / Haley Phelps

Sometimes when I buy white sneakers, I consider getting two pairs at the same time because I envision what those pristine shoes will soon look like after a few wears. Sparkling white turns to a weird grayish brown in no time, and try as I might, my attempts at cleaning them have never done the trick.

Twitter user sarahtraceyy may have just solved the problems of every white-shoe-lover with a simple cleaning hack that's a game changer.

She shared a before-and-after photo of her Converses, and it's hard to believe they are even the same pair of shoes. After being showered with a Twitter storm of questions, she shared her secrets with the world.

Sounds easy enough! She advises you to first rinse the sneakers, then mix one part baking soda and one and a half parts regular laundry detergent together, and simply scrub the shoes with a toothbrush. After letting them sit, she then rinsed her shoes in water and put them in the washer. She finished off the DIY by putting baby powder on the sneakers and letting them dry. Keep in mind these are specifically white cloth sneakers, so the DIY would need to be tweaked for something like white leather shoes.

Try out this cleaning trick on your white shoes, and make them look like new!

The Unbelievably Sad Reason You Can't Pet These Puppies in Chernobyl

After the Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster in 1986, the area was deemed uninhabitable - for humans, at least. Wild animals have since prospered in the area, including man's best friend: dogs. When residents of Pripyat and Chernobyl evacuated, many people had to leave behind their dogs. Thirty-one years later, puppies now walk around the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone (CEZ), waiting for a pat on the head that will never come.

As the documentary Puppies of Chernobyl explains, the animals should be avoided at all costs, since they could carry radioactive particles in their fur. It's estimated that about 900 stray dogs exist around the area and it's unknown just how much (or little) radiation is affecting them. The dogs are receiving some care, however; organizations Four Paws and Clean Futures Fund (CFF) teamed up to spay, neuter, and vaccinate the dogs to protect power plant workers. "By neutering the strays, we will also achieve a long-term reduction in their population, improving the welfare of the dogs," Julie Sander of Four Paws said to the Vet Times. "This is important because their chances of survival are greatly reduced if their numbers increase, due to lack of food and shelter in the extremely cold Winters."

It is undeniably sad to watch the puppies frolic around Chernobyl in the documentary, but give it a watch anyways. You might feel sad enough to help them out.

What Is the Healthiest Drive-Through Option? Let's Take a Look

We have somewhat of an obsession with finding the healthiest foods we can at some of the less-healthy restaurants around - maybe we just like to see the glass half full, or maybe we're trying to make the best of a bad situation. Either way, we've had some fun making a healthy eating guide for McDonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell, KFC, Wendy's, Chick-Fil-A, and more.

Looking for things like high-protein, lower calorie options were priorities on our list and also making sure there's more than just one or two healthier items, not just "side salad."

And while Starbucks was a top contender for healthiest drive-through, we wanted to keep this list to classic fast food (side note, if you do have a Starbucks drive-through and that's one of your few options, definitely check out its hearty veggie bowls or bistro boxes). Among the burgers, fries, tacos, and fried chicken, was there a beacon of hope? Which is your best option on the road?

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Taco Bell was victorious in our health quest. With nearly 6 million vegetarian combinations, Cantina Power Bowls, and very high-protein options, the Bell truly did think outside the bun and delivered a pretty trustworthy menu for those of you trying to eat lighter, leaner, or meatless.

In addition to that extensive vegetarian menu and its lighter, dairy-free, Fresco-style ordering, it's also got a good number of gluten-free options like black beans, Cantina Power Bowls, steak or chicken nachos, and hash browns.

While we won't go around touting that Taco Bell is the new Whole Foods, know that if you're road tripping or have limited options on the go that it's a safe bet for eating healthier. The only decision you have to make now is, are you getting a spicy tostada or a chicken soft taco?

30 Tiny, Chic Wrist Tattoos That Are Better Than a Bracelet

If you truly want to wear your heart on your sleeve, then the wrist should be the canvas for your next tattoo. A flat plane fairly easy to tattoo, the wrist is popular for first-timers and small designs or sayings. While the wrist is generally a more visible tattoo spot than, say, the ribs or back, this placement allows for easy coverage with foundations or bracelets - making it an ideal choice for those who might be slightly tentative to get inked in a more prominent location. Conversely, we're also partial to the wrist because of its visibility: the conspicuousness of this spot is perfect for tattoos meant to serve as a source of inspiration, support, or reminder.

But don't just take our word for it - check out these gorgeous pieces of wrist ink to get some serious tattoo inspiration.

Leonardo DiCaprio Revealed What Really Went Down During His Meeting With Trump

Leonardo DiCaprio is finally giving us the inside scoop on what really happened during his meeting with then-president-elect Donald Trump back in December 2016. Spoiler: the actor and climate activist is not very pleased with the outcome of the closed-door conversation.

Speaking at the Yale Climate Conference on Sept. 19, the Oscar winner revealed that he presented Trump with a "comprehensive plan to tackle climate change, while also simultaneously harnessing the economic potential of green jobs" during their private meeting. Seated on stage next to former Secretary of State John Kerry, DiCaprio went on to divulge that he and Trump "talked about how the United States has the potential to lead the world in clean-energy manufacturing and research and development."

In light of President Trump's controversial decision to pull out of the Paris Climate Agreement, it doesn't seem that DiCaprio's conversation with him was terribly productive. Expressing his frustration with the Trump administration's inaction on climate change, DiCaprio said, "This administration and certain people are going to be vilified for not taking action."

But even if Leo's attempts to personally engage with the president on issues concerning climate change failed, the actor isn't giving up the fight against climate change anytime soon. In fact, he just announced that the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation will be donating a $20 million grant to carry on the fight against global warming.

10 Aluminum-Free Deodorants That Actually Keep You Stink Free

You can't talk about natural deodorants without a quick lesson in B.O. 101. First you need to know the difference between a deodorant and an antiperspirant. An antiperspirant has chemicals like aluminum to stop sweating altogether. The aluminum salts plug the sweat glands, preventing perspiration. On the other hand, a deodorant masks and neutralizes odor. But where does the stink come from in the first place? When the glands in your armpits emit sweat, the liquid interacts with the bacteria in the area to emit unsavory smells.

Natural deodorants use essential oils like tea tree and witch hazel to curb the bacteria. Some also have other less harmful minerals like zinc ricinoleate and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to keep the underarm area dry without stopping sweat altogether. In addition to getting rid of aluminum, most are also paraben free and safe for sensitive skin. If you're thinking about giving up antiperspirant, start with these 10 formulas that actually keep the stink at bay.

A Simple Veggie Dish That Will Steal the Show This Thanksgiving

According to Jen Atkin, Anyone Can Pull Off This Nostalgic Hair Trend

As a kid, nothing sealed the deal on a great outfit quite like hair accessories. From sequined headbands to flower-embellished hair ties, a single trip to everyone's favorite accessory shop Claire's could change your entire wardrobe. And if you color-coordinated your butterfly clips to your picture-day ensemble? A winning yearbook photo was practically guaranteed.

Somewhere along the way, however, our obsession with these cheeky embellishments seemed to fade away in pursuit of beachy waves and messy ponytails. But why? If our mini selves can rock them on a daily basis, our adult selves should be able to do the same! Thankfully, some of our favorite celebrities - and their stylists - agree.

According to Jen Atkin, hairstylist to A-list clients like Kaia Gerber and the Hadid sisters, metal is the key to making hair accessories adult-friendly. "Metal hair accessories are a great way to dress up any look and take your hair from day to night, or throw in after a cycle class and head to dinner with your girls," she said. This belief comes through in her recent collaboration with popular accessory brand Chloe + Isabel. "I created a range of metal headbands [that] can be used either with your hair up or down and look good with any hair texture."

Curious to see exactly how a little metallic shine can amp up a hairstyle? Keep scrolling to see a handful of eye-catching accessories grace the manes of your favorite celebrities, plus how you can get in on the trend yourself (thanks to a surprise in our November Must Have box!).

What This Waiter Asked 4 Latina Women at a Restaurant Will Infuriate You

An image of Saint Marc's Pub-Cafe in Orange County, CA.

Diana Carrillo, a 24-year-old business analyst from Orange County, CA, thought she was just going out for a meal with her three girlfriends at Saint Marc's Pub-Cafe. But instead she found herself being asked for proof of residency by a waiter before he would serve her. "For a few seconds I thought maybe he was being a smart ass or joking," she wrote in a Facebook post. "But the fact that he said 'I need to make sure you're from here before I serve you' was completely unacceptable."

A few friends and I went to Saint Marc's in Huntington Beach today. My sister and my friend were seated first and the...

After the women handed over their IDs to the waiter, they decided to report him to the manager, who reportedly offered to seat them in a separate section. The four women decided to leave the establishment altogether.

Kent Bearden, senior director of operations at Saint Marc's, told The Washington Post that the company had fired the waiter following his misconduct. "My concern is he violated a company policy," Bearden said. "We're very specific about how we treat out guests. That individual did not treat a table of guests to the expectations that we set forth in that company policy, and that caused him to be terminated."

After Carrillo's Facebook post went viral with over 1,000 shares and over 400 comments, the restaurant pledged to donate 10 percent of its weekend earnings to a nonprofit organization of the ladies' choice. Saint Marc's also offered to host the women with a VIP experience at the restaurant. The women ultimately declined on the meal but asked that the money be donated to Orange County Immigrant Youth United.

Kristen Bell and Dave Grohl's Frozen and Metallica Mashup Is So Bizarre and SO Catchy

Somewhere out there, Dave Grohl is receiving a #1 Dad mug from his daughters thanks to Kristen Bell. The pair took over Jimmy Kimmel Live's studio on Halloween, where they performed a bizarre (and amazing) mashup of Bell's Frozen hit "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" with Metallica's "Enter Sandman" to appease little Violet, Harper, and Fifi Grohl. What really takes their performance up a notch, though, is the fact Bell and Grohl are dressed in elaborate Tom Selleck and David Letterman costumes (fluffy chest hair and Santa beard included).

The Nightingale's Kristin Hannah Shares Exclusive Details on Her Highly Anticipated New Novel

Brenda Janowitz is the POPSUGAR books correspondent. She is the author of five novels, including The Dinner Party.

The wait is finally over. Ever since The Nightingale, Kristin Hannah's runaway bestseller, captured our hearts in 2015, fans have been clamoring for her next novel. With more than four million copies sold, The Nightingale wasn't just a bestseller. It was a phenomenon.

How can a writer follow up a book that resonated with so many readers? Hannah took inspiration from her own family, who homesteaded in Alaska in the 1970s. The Great Alone takes us to Alaska, 1974. It's the story of 13-year-old Leni, who learns that her father has lost another job and that her family is moving again. But this time, they are going off the grid to Alaska, to homestead 40 acres of raw land. Her father, a Vietnam veteran, thinks this will be a fresh start for their family. And Leni hopes that he is right. But they are unprepared for what it takes to survive a Winter in Alaska. And as they will quickly learn, there is no room for mistakes. The Great Alone is a story about courage and resilience and how we can survive against the most difficult of odds. Fierce, feminist, and utterly unputdownable, this is a book you won't soon forget.

We're thrilled to have this exclusive video of Hannah talking about her inspiration for The Great Alone and sharing personal family photographs. The Great Alone will be out on Feb. 6, 2018.

The truth is, though, it is more than possible to have a wonderful family, career, and home life, but expecting perfection from each aspect of life at the same time is just not realistic. It is through this realization and self-acceptance that we can do the best we can and continue to strive for a balance that nourishes both our families and our well-being.

If you are trying to "have it all" and are guilting yourself in the meantime, here are some tidbits of advice that might ease the pressure a bit and help you live your best life.

Take Risks

There is never a perfect time for anything, whether it's deciding to have a kid, asking for a raise, or relocating to your new branch on the other side of the country. Without risk, there is no reward, so be willing to take risks, be confident in your decision to do so, and be OK with certain things that may have to be put on hold.

Be Smart

Taking risks doesn't always mean being impulsive. Take the time to make smart choices, whether it comes to budget, parental choices, or even the right tech devices and plans to take advantage of. Preview the options, go over pros and cons, and determine what works best for you and your family. For example, with Total Wireless, you can get 25 GB of shared* data/month on America's most dependable network for just $25 per line for 4 lines. Now that's a no-brainer.

Have Confidence

Believe in yourself as an employee, mom, wife, sister, and every other title you hold dear. Loved ones around you know you are doing the best you can, and you should, too. No one expects perfection (except you!), but having confidence in yourself and your decisions is just what you need to keep doing the great job you already are.

Be Present

There will be times when you are at work and you want to be at home or you're at home when you want to be at work. But having the presence to be in the moment, wherever you are, will keep you focused on the people around you and the tasks that need to be done. By living in the now and getting things done properly with the attention they need, you'll get to be wherever you want to before you know it.

Fight Perfection

We can be hard on ourselves when keeping our houses, our appearances, and our bake-sale donations (we've all been there) to a certain standard. Don't expect perfection, because it'll never be met. Instead, accept that the pile of laundry is there, that your roots are showing a little bit, and that the cookies you're bringing are store-bought. It's all OK.

Be Appreciative

Life as a mom is tough; life as a working mom is tough. But there are so many moments of joy that can be found each day. The silly joke your kid tells you, a family after-dinner walk on a beautiful evening . . . the joy comes in the little things, and appreciating them makes them all the sweeter.

Oh Yes He Did: Anthony Bourdain Expertly Burns Trump For How He Likes His Steak

This post has been updated with new information.

Anthony Bourdain has vowed to stay clear from any restaurants owned by President Donald Trump.

"I will never eat in his restaurant," the CNN Parts Unknown host said in an interview with Eater, referring to chef Alessandro Borgognone's Sushi Nakazawa restaurant at the Trump DC hotel. "I have utter contempt for him, utter and complete contempt," he added about Borgognone, whom he said had no principles for working with Trump.

"I'm not asking you to start putting up barricades now, but when they come and ask you, 'Are you with us?' You do have an option. You can say 'No thanks, guys.'"

"And Trump - the man eats his steak well done! I don't think he's a good person."

Bourdain also called out why he feels Trump is not a "good person" and the president's history of discrimination. "And Trump - the man eats his steak well done! I don't think he's a good person," Bourdain said. "I remember the Central Park Five, and what he said. I've seen how he's treated employees. I saw what he did to Atlantic City. I saw what he did to the west side of this town. It's f*ckin' ugly. He's going to make the whole world look like the back of Rick James' van."

Bourdain isn't the first food critic to call out Trump. Earlier this month, Vanity Fair left a scathing review of the Trump Tower Grill, which earned a response from Trump, who said Vanity Fair had "really poor numbers" of subscribers. The magazine's subscription numbers are actually booming.

On Dec. 22, Bourdain elaborated on his statement with a true-to-form tweet, shown below. In it, he clarified that he is less so "boycotting" Sushi Nakazawa, but rather choosing to not support the restaurant and its chef.

Here's How Flaxmeal Can Help With Weight Loss

Flaxseed is one staple you should definitely have in your kitchen. Aside from one tablespoon of flaxmeal offering your daily recommended dose of omega-3s, find out how these little seeds can help you lose weight.

Healthy Fats

Flaxmeal is a great source of omega-3s, which can reduce inflammation and promote bone health. But getting your fill of healthy fats can also contribute to the feeling of satiation after a meal. In the morning, sprinkle some on your oatmeal, yogurt, or smoothies so you stay full until lunchtime.

Holy Fiber!

One tablespoon of flaxmeal offers two grams of fiber, which is pretty decent considering you should aim for about eight to 10 grams per meal in order to lose weight. Certified dietitian Leslie Langevin, MS, RD, CD, of Whole Health Nutrition, recommends clients add this to meals because the fiber "can be helpful for filling power, which can definitely help with weight loss."

What is so great about flaxmeal is that when it gets wet, it expands, which makes your belly feel more full and makes it take longer to digest. Add a tablespoon to your lunchtime salad, stir it into soups or cooked whole grains, or sprinkle some on your pasta or roasted veggies. Be sure to opt for ground flaxseed (flaxmeal) because whole flaxseeds just pass right through the body undigested.

Egg Substitute

You can substitute eggs in your cookies, pancakes, and breads with a simple swap. For every egg, make a flax egg by mixing one tablespoon flaxmeal and three tablespoons water. The flax becomes gelatinous when soaked for five to 10 minutes, resembling the consistency of eggs. Compared to a regular egg, one flax egg is also almost half the calories, so if you bake a lot of muffins and protein bars, it's a huge plus when it comes to weight loss. As a bonus, a flax egg is also free of saturated fat and cholesterol.

Yes, you read that correctly, and if you've always desired a romantic evening with Colonel Sanders himself, then this is your calling.

Or, even better, if you want to fool your roommates into thinking there's a big bucket of chicken waiting for them in the kitchen, leave this bad boy in the tub for a few minutes.

KFC's eyebrow-raising bath bombs are currently only available in Japan from Nov. 1 through Nov. 15 and will be given out through a lottery. Amazon Is Launching Its Own Meal Kits! Here's What You Can Expect

Is there anything Amazon can't do? Joining the popular meal-delivery-service industry, Amazon is launching its own meal kits, which will be available through its existing grocery service called Amazon Fresh. Much like some of the best food delivery services out there, like Blue Apron, HelloFresh, and Good Eggs, Amazon Meal Kits features individually packaged and portioned ingredients along with a step-by-step recipes meant to be cooked in a short amount of time. If the food is anything like Amazon's new Wickedly Prime snacks, then we know it's going to be good.

There's already an Amazon Meal Kit online for 30-minute steak au poivre with parmesan fries and snap peas, which comes with potatoes, parmesan cheese, garlic, beef stock, parchment paper, and more, but at press time, it was labeled "currently unavailable." To purchase the meal kits, you'll have to be a member of Amazon Fresh, which costs $15 per month and also requires you to be an Amazon Prime member. If you're a lazy cook or someone who really hates grocery shopping (and are already an avid Amazon Prime shopper), this takes care of most of the hassle for you and might be worth a try.

This exciting news comes shortly after Amazon's acquisition of Whole Foods. We imagine it's only a matter of time before the next food-related announcement from Amazon.

Your Weekly Workout Schedule Is Here - With Printables and Everything!

Can't make it to the gym? Or have absolutely no idea what to do once you're there? We feel you. Working out is hard enough, let alone having to create a successful plan that hits all the important points. We're here to help - think of us as your personal trainer for the week!

This one-week plan follows a trainer's plan for success: three days of resistance training, one day of cardio, and one day for dedicated recovery. On your two "off days," be sure to stay active with some LISS cardio, like going for a walk or leisurely bike ride. You can stagger the plan to whatever fits your schedule best, but we recommended giving yourself a rest day if you're feeling particularly sore. And if you're feeling like you have time to spare, go ahead and repeat one of the workouts.

Best of all, you can print each workout to take with you to the gym - or do the privacy of your own home. None of these workouts require much in the way of equipment; a pair of dumbbells is as fancy as it gets.

This Powerful Photo of a Baby Still Connected to His Placenta Shows How Mind-Blowing Birth Is

The first moments of a baby's life are a whirlwind - so much is happening that it's almost impossible to stop and simply appreciate what has just happened. One midwife-turned-photographer, Emma Jean Nolan, took the opportunity to capture the awe-inspiring power of birth with a startlingly beautiful image. In it, a newborn baby is still connected to his placenta by his umbilical cord that is adjusted to spell out the word "love."

Her intention with the image of baby Harper, which was shot just 90 minutes after he was born last week, was to draw attention to an ancient Maori tradition of burying a newborn's placenta after their birth. Nolan wrote on Facebook:

As a Maori baby his placenta will now be returned to the land. The word 'whenua' relates to the placenta and to the land. Whenua (placenta) is returned to the whenua (land) with the pito (umbilical cord) the link between the newborn and papatuanuku (mother earth). With this affinity established, each individual fulfils the role of curator, for papatuanuku (mother earth), which remains life long.

Interestingly, Nolan told us that she'd been planning to take a photo like this for a while but "was waiting for a baby with a long enough cord to spell" the word. She said, "Once I saw how long Harper's cord was, I knew he was the right baby!"

Although this method for honoring the placenta is rare in the US, the Australian photographer's black-and-white image has gotten more than 2,500 "likes" on Facebook in less than a week, probably because it shows readers - even moms - a sight they've likely never seen before: what is actually birthed when a newborn baby enters the world.

CrossFit-Inspired 200-Rep Bodyweight Workout

You don't need heavy-duty barbells, a box, or a pull-up bar for this intense workout, but it's still fast-paced, full-body, and effective. It's just four basic moves, 10 reps each, repeated five times for a total of 200 reps. Aim to do this workout AQAP (as quickly as possible), finishing in under eight to 10 minutes, paying special attention to proper form.

Newsflash: THIS Is How You Should Actually Be Cutting Your Round Cakes

Well, it looks like we've been cutting our birthday cakes the wrong way all this time. The viral video above has brought our wrongdoing to the light of day and provides us with an unexpected alternative - one that involves rectangular slices instead of the tried-and-true triangular ones. Mathematician Alex Bellos begins the clip by explaining that cutting a cake into wedges causes the sugary dessert to dry out if left in the refrigerator overnight. Instead, he advises making your first slice right down the middle so you can push the cut halves back together to preserve your leftovers' moistness overnight - because there's nothing more disappointing than a dried-out cake!

Watch the video above to see Bellos describe why it's about time you adopt this scientifically proven cutting method. You'll definitely want to add this genius tip to your list of must-know food hacks.

But there's one in particular that delivers true stop-and-stare status.

Take a look at the finished eye shadow look Huda's rocking in the video above.
