What's the Real Deal With Hydroquinone?

Hydroquinone has become pretty controversial in the beauty world. One minute, it's the miracle ingredient for clearing up dark spots, and the next, it's supposedly carcinogenic. It's hard for anything to be deemed trustworthy and effective once labeled as a cancer causer. Yet, through all the fuss, experts have maintained that hydroquinone remains the gold standard for erasing hyperpigmentation and age spots. So in all that toxic talk, what's the truth? We asked three experts to weigh in.

Why all the fuss?

"Much of this controversy stems from its ban in South Africa due to side effects," explained Sejal Shah, NYC cosmetic dermatologist and founder of SmarterSkin Dermatology. "Subsequently, other countries banned hydroquinone. It turns out that the questionable products in South Africa contained mercury and other contaminants, which more likely account for side effects being seen."

Dr. Shah further explained that there have been reports of hydroquinone causing cancer in mice when administered in high doses orally, but there are no studies to date showing that this happens in humans and with a topical application. "When properly formulated and used, hydroquinone can be extremely safe and effective, and we have numerous studies confirming this," Shah added.

Does it bleach skin?

Rachel Roff, a medical esthetician and founder of Urban Skin Rx, quickly squashed this myth. "When used within a safe strength, hydroquinone doesn't bleach someone's natural skin tone. It evens out the skin," Roff said. While it may not be proven to cause cancer, if used incorrectly, it can leave skin vulnerable to excessive sun exposure, which could mean a higher risk of skin cancer and sunburn.

"As a general known fact, side effects of skin bleaching, regardless of product or ingredient, include skin irritation and sun sensitivity," dermatologist Dendy Engelman said. There's also a condition called ochronosis, where the skin darkens. This reaction is mainly associated with high concentrations of hydroquinone that has been used for prolonged periods of time.

When do you need hydroquinone?

The main purpose of hydroquinone in skin care is as a lightening agent. "Skin lightening is performed for a variety of reasons, including sun damage. Melanin (aka pigment) is produced by skin cells called melanocytes, and various topical creams are used to reduce the amount of pigment that is produced to brighten the skin," Engelman said. These include hydroquinone, which is the most common, botanical extracts, and antioxidants.

How do you use it safely?

A hydroquinone regimen should be used for no more than three to four months at a time, followed by a minimum of two months off. After the two months, if hyperpigmentation is still an issue, you can return to using hydroquinone for another three- to four-month period.

What if you just can't get behind hydroquinone?

While the experts agree that nothing works on dark spots quite as fast as hydroquinone does, there are ingredients that are just as effective. It may take longer to see results, but natural solutions like kojic acid, alpha arbutin, niacinamide, and vitamin C can help even out your skin. Something like SkinMedica Lytera 2.0, a pigment-correcting serum that is retinol- and hydroquinone-free, balances the skin's melanin production and resists triggers that cause discoloration.

This Breakfast Ornament Is Perfect For Anyone Who Likes Christmas Over Easy

This may be one of the most difficult questions you've been asked in your life, but when you wake up on Christmas morning, are you more excited by the smell of crispy bacon and a plateful of eggs or about the presents sitting under the tree? If that seems like an impossible decision, because breakfast is life, we've found the perfect ornament for you. This glass-blown bacon and eggs ornament ($13) is hand-painted, covered in glitter, and ready to brighten up Christmas.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so why not cover it in glitter and give it the respect it deserves front and center on the Christmas tree? We'll be decorating our trees with this bad boy and some of the other incredibly important things in life like pickles, Champagne, grilled cheese, and maybe a traditional ornament with a photo of the family. Maybe. The only possible downside is that the ornament doesn't diffuse fresh breakfast scents when someone walks by. Regardless, we'll be ordering a dozen. Merry Christmas, foodies!

Think Beyond the Frosty and Get These 5 Healthier Orders at Wendy's

Look: at the end of the day, fast food is fast food. Don't expect to find fresh organic produce and artisanal, seasonal plates at a drive-through. That being said, we've been doing a little digging lately to find the "least bad for you" options at places like McDonald's, Panera, Starbucks, and Taco Bell. The verdict? There are some surprisingly nutritious options, at low prices, on the go.

Next on the agenda is Wendy's. Whether you are traveling, are pressed for time, are in a pinch, or got dragged along, DROP THE FROSTY (a large glass of chocolaty goodness will run you 80 grams of sugar, which is approximately four times your daily limit). Instead, opt for one of these under-400-calorie plates.

Note: If you need a Frosty, or it's your special treat, get the junior size - 200 calories and five grams of protein, but 27 grams of sugar (yikes). It's not the end of the world, obviously, but just be conscious when you're ordering on the go, and factor it into the rest of your healthy, balanced life.

This Harry Potter Bath Bomb Set Is the Next Best Thing to a Weasley Christmas Package

Reading the Harry Potter series, nothing sounded more comforting and delightful than waking up on Dec. 25 to a parcel of holiday goodies from Molly Weasley. For me, it's been yet another way that the wizarding world set me up for disappointment: first I turned 11 without receiving a Hogwarts letter, then I had to deal with holidays that simply aren't as magical as in the series. But then I discovered a holiday care package that's almost as good as one of Mrs. Weasley's homemade fudge and hand-knitted sweater gifts: a bath bomb kit inspired by J.K. Rowling's enchanting series.

Created by Etsy vendor SevenandSixGifts, the care package costs less than $35. The set includes a bath bomb (inspired by the dragon egg Harry fetches in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), bath oil, bath crystals, a face towel, a lightning bolt bracelet, and a personalized Hogwarts letter all packaged into a keepsake box. Suffice it to say, this is the perfect gift for any Potterhead who could use a relaxing bath! It's about as close as you'll get to the glamorous prefects' bathroom at Hogwarts castle.

Check out the set and place your order in time for the holiday season. Mrs. Weasley would be so proud of your thoughtful gift-giving skills!

This $96 Gold Razor Brings 24-Karat Magic to Your Legs

It's cold outside, I'm single, and as a perennially broke 20-something, I have no beach vacations on the horizon, so I'm pretty much done with shaving for the next five months. That is, I was done with shaving until I saw this Oui Shave Kit ($96) that includes a 24-karat gold razor. Now, I might have to amend my no-shave Winter rule.

This kit, although pricey, pretty much makes your hair removal collection complete. I'll break it down for you: along with the aforementioned, Bruno Mars-approved razor, you'll also get a pack of 10 blades and a bottle of Neroli shave oil. Plus, according to Oui, this blade is "engineered to be irritation-free" and "makes shaving a pleasure."

Oui, Imma let you finish, but Halo Top is a pleasure. A seat on the subway at rush hour is a pleasure. Steve's Stranger Things hair is a gosh darn pleasure. Shaving is not a pleasure.

But after reading the reviews of this razor, it looks like I'm going to have to eat my words (along with all that Halo Top). In fact, as far as most shoppers are concerned, Oui has come through on its promise - and more. "This razor is every woman's dream," one wrote. "It makes shaving feel like a luxury spa experience." What now?

According to another, "Shaving is no longer a mundane task to be accomplished in the shower, but a luxurious, rewarding, act of self-care." Are you shook right now, too? I didn't know a razor review could make me feel so empowered.

If you want to bring 24-karat magic to your legs, be sure to preorder this bad boy on Oui Shave's site. It will ship out the week of Nov. 27, so until then, let the hair grow proudly.

30 Women of All Ages Share Why They’ve Never Had Botox

To say I've been tempted to jump on the Botox bandwagon is an understatement. As a beauty writer and New Yorker who's nearing the bitter end of her 20s, it's safe to say that I'm surrounded by the seemingly untapped benefits of the wrinkle reducer.

More than half of my close friends and colleagues have gone under the needle, and most of the trusted skincare experts I interview on a constant basis talk endlessly about the long-term advantages of what's being called "preventative Botox." Basically, the idea is that if you prevent the muscles from moving at a young age, the cells "atrophy," or shrink after years of not being used. Thus, you don't develop those deep lines or wrinkles.

It sounds promising, and I'm definitely not one to turn down the chance to try something - especially if it's at no cost to me (a very lucky perk of working in this industry) - but there's just something about Botox that I'm not ready for. Along with this decision has come a great deal of anxiety. Am I missing out on an opportunity to try something I should be doing anyway? Are the few lines I notice on my face getting worse every second that I pass up the chance to let a doctor inject me with the stuff?

Encouragement from others to give it a try doesn't help. I know their comments are harmless, but when a friend said, "You should get Botox - just a little in your forehead," months before my wedding, how was I supposed to take it? Plus, it got me thinking, if these conversations are happening around women my age or younger, what are women a decade or two older talking about? And what is the next level once we're tired of Botox?

I also found myself constantly thinking about who might have gotten Botox and who was taking the all-natural route instead. Some say you can tell if people have had it done or not - but, truly, I'm no expert in detecting it. Sometimes I find myself looking at a beautiful older woman on the subway and I wonder, "Is her skin so nice because she's been getting Botox for years?" This is probably the most upsetting part for me - instantly assuming that because a woman has good skin, she's probably had work done.

We need to stop thinking that we need Botox or any other physically altering enhancement to be any more beautiful than we are in our natural state. For those who get Botox and like the results, all the power to them. The beauty world is clearly behind those who decide to indulge, and my opinion is that if it makes you feel more confident and happy in your own skin, go for it. I just personally choose to care for my skin in different ways (at least for now), mainly through the use of quality products, regular facials, and chugging down several glasses of wine - I mean water! - daily. And I'm far from alone.

I asked women of all ages - from their early 20s to their late 80s - who have never had Botox why they've avoided injections and what tricks of the skin trade they're using to care for their skin.

5 Tips For Looking Flawless in Your Engagement Pictures

Being engaged comes with plenty of excitement, and one aspect plenty of brides-to-be look forward to is their engagement shoot. And while you may have budgeted professional makeup for the day of your wedding (lucky you!), chances are you're going rogue for your engagement photos. And that's totally fine. These photos look best when they look like you. But in case you're still a little unsure of things, here are five tips to keep in mind when it's picture time:

  • Pick a primer. Not only will a primer completely even out your skin tone and work as a base for the rest of your makeup, but it will also keep your product from slipping down your face midshoot. Smashbox Photo Finish Primer ($36) is a classic. Smooth it on before you apply your makeup.
  • Go for full coverage. Your engagement photos are not the place to bust out your favorite tinted moisturizer. A foundation with full coverage, like Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation ($43), will cover just about everything. And if you're worried about cake face, never fear. Heavy foundations like this were made with cameras in mind, and your photographer's lens won't be able to detect it.
  • Make sure you match. The worst thing you could do is not have a concealer that matches your skin tone. Go to the makeup counter and get matched so that your concealer will blend and not steal the spotlight away from you.
  • Be blushed and bronzed. These two products work together to make you look gorgeous, so leaving one out can make you look flat. Pick up a duo like Nars Blush/Bronzer Duo ($42), and start by sweeping the blush onto the apples of your cheeks. Then contour below the blush with the bronzer.
  • Don't forget to whiten. Teeth whitening can be your best friend when it comes to these photos, especially if they're in color. An at-home treatment, like Go Smile's Smile Whitening System ($89) may seem pricey, but the result will pay off. You'll have a set of gorgeous engagement photos . . . and a lovely smile to go along with it.

Your 6-Week Countdown Checklist to Scoring Perfect Wedding Hair

You got the ring, now it's time to start planning everything. Let us make the beauty part of that a little bit easier. We already shared a general beauty checklist and skin care guide to follow leading up to your big day. Now it's time to talk hair - styling, color, extensions. You need a plan, and it should start about six weeks before saying "I do."

First of all, don't make any drastic moves. "Never switch colorists before your wedding - it's too risky in not getting what you want," advises celebrity stylist and brand owner Rita Hazan. "If you have never colored your hair, I would not color it right before the wedding and do any major changes. You want to feel like yourself and don't want to take any risks in case the color doesn't turn out how you would like it to look."

Keep reading to score more insider tips from Hazan and other top industry pros on how to get your mane in bridal shape.

Crush Your November Health and Fitness Goals With These Must-Have Products

Cooler weather is blowing in this month and brings these cool health and fitness products with it. Here's a look at what we're loving this November.

Harry Potter and Voldemort Were Connected in a Way You Won't Believe

Harry Potter fans are no strangers to phoenixes, the type of bird we know Dumbledore's beloved Fawkes to be. But the symbolism behind the phoenix, particularly as it relates to Voldemort and Harry Potter's wands and their connection to one another, will completely shock you.

Ever heard the phrase "rise like a phoenix"? It's a useful metaphor for describing someone who comes back from a difficulty stronger than before, much like the phoenix in Greek mythology who lived for centuries, consumed itself in fire as it weakened, then was reborn from the ashes.

And as we know, Fawkes himself rises from the ashes and is reborn in the Harry Potter series. Fawkes also gave just two of his valuable feathers to be used as the core of a wizard's wand. One feather went into what would eventually become Harry Potter's holly wand. The other, as renowned wandmaker Ollivander revealed early on, went into Tom Riddle's yew wand, making the two wands "brothers." Curious, as Ollivander would say. This common core is also why the unique "Priori Incantatem" spell occurs when the wands connect during Harry and Voldemort's duel in Goblet of Fire.

However, the intricate connections don't stop there, as a Reddit user recently pointed out. Not only do Harry and Voldemort share wand cores, but they also share something much more significant:

I had been wondering why JKR specifically chose a Phoenix tail feather for Harry's and Voldemort's wands, and then I realized: phoenixes die and are reborn. Harry and Voldemort both, at some point, die and are reborn themselves. These books never stop being astoundingly intricate. from harrypotter

Like phoenixes, both Harry and Voldemort have experienced the highly unusual circumstances of dying and being reborn. Harry "rises from the ashes" when he sacrifices himself - the final unintentional horcrux - in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. He allows Voldemort to perform Avada Kedavra on him and even is offered the choice between returning to finish off the dark wizard or to "move on." (Spoiler: he comes back to finish him off.) It can also even be argued that he "rose from the ashes" like a phoenix when Voldemort first tried (and failed) to kill him as a baby.

Of course, Voldemort dies and is reborn several times in the series, both in the metaphorical and physical sense. Tom Riddle as the world knows him "dies" and is reborn as Lord Voldemort, to start. He then is expelled from his physical body when his attempt to murder Harry Potter fails, and he is "reborn" back into that physical form in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (thanks a lot, Wormtail).

It's hard to believe that this is all a coincidence. Instead, it seems like brilliant thinking on J.K. Rowling's part. She connects the mythological powers of a phoenix who can regenerate with Harry and Voldemort's own remarkable returns to life, while also using the core of their wands to further emphasize the significant ways they are tied together, right from the very start.

The 1-Second Trick That Will Make Doing a Plank Infinitely Easier

When you are short on time but want to fit some quality strength moves into your fitness routine, planks are an excellent option and one of the best ways to build strength and stability in your core. One of the most important things to be mindful of when performing planks is correct form, as doing the exercise incorrectly not only won't improve your strength, but it can also eventually lead to discomfort and potential injuries.

"People generally start to feel discomfort in their shoulders, which may indicate that their elbows are not directly beneath them and they have not engaged their core, leading to the shoulders taking a lot more strain then they need to," said Victoria Webster, a certified personal trainer at Suite Time Fitness in Houston. "Another thing to look out for is low back discomfort. This is a sign that your core is collapsing and your back is sagging down."

There are many variations on plank exercises, but one of the most basic is the forearm plank. Follow these steps to ensure you are performing the exercise correctly:

  • Find a space in front of a mirror so you can check your form.
  • Lie on your stomach, bring your elbows directly under your shoulders, and flip your toes under your feet
  • Exhale and lift your body off the ground. Your body should be in one straight line with a flat back, your butt down and your core engaged.
  • Actively draw your belly button up into your spine. Your hands can be grasped in a "prayer" position or parallel to each other.
  • Check yourself out in the mirror and lift your midsection back into that strong, straight line you had initially

Don't get too preoccupied with how long you can hold a plank, either. "There is no reason, ever, to hold a plank for five minutes. One or two minutes are good goals to work up to; anything more than that and you'll likely begin to lose form," Webster said. "Personally, I like to do several sets of 90- to 120-second planks, alternating with a low back exercise, for balance."

Finally, don't forget to breathe. "As a trainer, I find that when people are doing exercises that are difficult, and especially if they're being timed, they hold their breath. Nice, slow, controlled breathing will help you through the exercise," Webster said.

Selena Reacts to Her Grammy Win in a Recently Discovered 1994 Interview

Selena and her many appearances on commercials and ads recently became part of an ongoing American Enterprise exhibit at The National Museum of American History in Washington D.C., and while putting it together, the museum found this "lost" interview Selena gave in 1994. It's a clip from the program Tejano USA found on a TV camera donated by Univision to the museum. The footage was taken in April 1994, right before the Tejano singer performed at the Texas Live music festival sponsored by Coca Cola. In it, she spoke candidly about winning her 1993 Grammy for her album Live!.

"I had this huge knot in my stomach and then they announced the winner," she said smiling. "We haven't had time to celebrate because we've been working. It's a good problem to have though." She also talks about not being able to bring in a camera into the Grammys (so cute!) and her guest stint on the telenovela Dos Mujeres, Un Camino.

Here's the Lowdown on Glycolic Acid, Plus 10 Products That Put It in the Spotlight

If you haven't yet met glycolic acid, prepare to fall in love at first swatch. This superacid falls into the category of "alpha hydroxy acids" - or AHAs - which are naturally derived acids typically found in sugarcane, sugar beets, and fruit. Because a molecule of glycolic acid is smaller than its AHA counterparts (including lactic, mandelic, and citric acids), its particles are better able to penetrate the skin and are considered to be more effective.

"Glycolic acids are often used to treat acne scarring, skin discoloration, and signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles," explained Anita Sun, a medical esthetician and the founder of Dermovia. "It is also effective in treating skin conditions such as psoriasis, melasma, seborrheic keratosis, and keratosis pilaris."

In other words, it's really, really ridiculously good at resurfacing the skin. But that's not all!

Sun added, "Glycolic acid helps to boost collagen production and is effective in plumping the skin supporting healthy skin tissue to remain firm and prevents wrinkles from forming. It's also effective in removing surface dead skin cells and removing oil build up in pores."

By incorporating this ingredient into your skincare routine, you'll notice a brighter and more even complexion - sometimes in as little as 24 hours. If you need glycolic acid in your life, we've listed our favorite products ahead.

This Rose Quartz Highlighter Is the Prettiest Shade We've Ever Seen

A moment of silence, please, for all the other highlighter shades because we've found our now-favorite hue of all time: rose quartz. The shade, a cooler-toned cousin of rose gold, comes by way of Kora Organics, the beauty line created by model Miranda Kerr.

When we first spotted the Rose Quartz Luminizer ($28) on Instagram, the cream highlighter reminded us of everyone's favorite trendy shade, millennial pink. Upon closer inspection, we saw the soft hue is more multidimensional with silvery, frosty layers of color. Plus, it's packaged in the prettiest, gold-capped pot.

Beyond being aesthetically pleasing, the highlighter also stands out because it might as well double as skin care - it contains shea butter, coconut oil, jojoba seed oil, and sunflower seed oil. Skin gets both an immediate glow on the surface from makeup and a glow from the inside-out with organic ingredients.

While Kora is best known for its skincare products, this launch marks the brand's first venture into makeup. The rose quartz highlighter is the only product listed in the new "Natural Beauty" section on Kora's site, so there's likely more cosmetics to come. If they're anything like this highlighter beauty, we can't wait.

Ahead, see more photos of the rose quartz highlighter because it's so gosh darn pretty.

9 Fruit Cake Recipes to Serve Up With Your Holiday Dinner

Fruit cake might be the most divisive holiday dessert. For many of us, Christmas isn't complete without a slice of panettone (or panetón), while others can't stand the dessert - seriously, it really garners haters!

And in the group that enjoys the cake with a cup of coffee after dinner on Noche Buena, there's division, too. While there's a big camp that finds more than a few boxes of the ready-made version in their kitchen at this time of year and thoroughly enjoy it, the more purist group would be quick to agree that homemade is the way to go. Here we've gathered traditional and unique fruit cake recipes from across Latin America everyone should try their hand at this holiday season no matter what side of the argument you stand by. Enjoy!

The Tastiest On-the-Go Dish at Disneyland That Will Fill You Up

The Bacon Mac & Cheese Cone ($8) at Cozy Cone Motel inside Disneyland's California Adventure is an Instagram sensation. So much so, we re-created the recipe at home. I had drooled over these cones for years before getting to try them for the first time a few weeks back. However, being the Texas girl that I am, I couldn't resist also ordering a Chili Cone Queso (50 cents cheaper than the mac) too. BTW, it's essentially a Frito pie inside a bread cone. My colleague Nicole and I took far too many shots of the oozing cones before taking our seats at the picnic tables and not-so-delicately tasting each one.

First off, the cone itself tastes like it's made from the same dough as the pretzel. It's like a slightly sweet brioche. It's a little bit on the stale and dry side, but I think that's because you have to eat it as soon as it comes out. Something I've noticed with Disneyland food is it's awesome when piping hot but much less desirable when cooled to room temperature.

As for the flavor of each cone, there was a clear winner but no loser! The bacon mac and cheese is awesome. It's more Velveeta cheese sauce than noodles, which is a big bonus, plus it's topped with crunchy (real!) bacon pieces. However, Nicole and I couldn't put down the Chili Cone Queso. The beef chili (also available vegetarian) is packed with beans and spices. The chips offer a nice textural contrast, and here's the best part: the bottom of the cone is filled with queso dip, plus there's more melted cheddar cheese on top. Before I polished off my half of the chili cone, Nicole stopped me and said, "I'm going to be real country and mix these two together. Try it and tell me it isn't the best decision." I followed suit and found myself extremely happy that I had trusted her with such a bizarre hybrid. But that's the beauty of Disneyland. You get to be a kid again, and occasionally, that leads to something magical.

MAC Just Launched a Whole Freakin' Rainbow of Holographic Lip Glosses; RIP Paycheck

Holy sh*t, guys - MAC Cosmetics just released an entire line of holographic lip glosses, and I can practically hear my paycheck begging for mercy in the distance. The cult brand's new Grand Illusion Glossy Liquid Lipcolours are about as shiny as it gets, offering a futuristic luster that'll leave you hypnotized. When Lil Mama sang about her lip gloss being so "poppin'" that it caused the boys at school to stop by her locker back in 2007, I'm pretty sure she was somehow foreshadowing this new MAC line.

The Grand Illusion glosses come in 14 colors from all over the spectrum, with standout shades including Space Bubble, a luscious blackberry red, and Broken Halo, an opalescent silver. Each $21 tube is "packed with iridescent pearls and megawatt color," and OMG, let's just get to those shades already, shall we? Read on to shop all 14 dazzlingly gorgeous lip glosses, and kindly pardon me while I go make a teeny-tiny tombstone for my credit card after buying every single one.

Here's What - and When - to Eat Before Working Out

When it comes to working out, it's important to feel energized, but it's not always as simple as grabbing a snack on your way out the door. Eating too close to exercise is a recipe for discomfort, but heading to the gym hungry isn't ideal either.

To learn how to maximize the potential of a workout, I spoke with nutritionist Heidi Skolnik, MS, CDN, FACSM, and author of Nutrient Timing for Peak Performance ($20) to find out what to eat and when before heading to the gym.

LaCroix Hair Is a Thing, Because of Course It Is

With only 54 days left in the year, we've reached peak 2017. That's because LaCroix hair is officially a thing, and honestly, I'm a little shocked it took this long for Instagram's most famous beauty trend (rainbow hair) to get it on with the app's soft drink of choice.

LaCroix hair comes courtesy of a project the brand Scruples Hair Care dreamed up with eight stylists. The theme of the looks is titled LaCroix Before Boys, and it should probably be your new life motto. (That rhyming catchphrase also ends the age-old debate on how the drink should be pronounced - it's La-CROY, people.)

Even if you don't drink sparkling water, you'll love the looks, which are rainbow-hair perfect. So crack open a fizzy Pamplemousse and take a gander at the most #millennial thing you'll see all day.

This Reflective Lips Trend Turns Your Mouth Into a Mirror

Time to bust out that polyester and rewatch Star Wars, because the 1970s are back, baby, and beauty trends are getting funky. From bouncy curls and shags to metallic everything, the fabulous decade is being emulated in every way makeup enthusiasts can imagine. Lately, we've noticed that people are straight up turning their lips into disco balls - and we are living, nay, stayin' alive for it.

We first noticed the look on Jazmina Daniel, who wrote on Instagram that she was inspired to jump on the mirror train after receiving a package that included silver reflective paper. According to Daniel, "I cut it out to the shape of my lips and glued it on with some lash glue."

This tin foil-esque look is a cool departure from the gold lamé we've been seeing and loving on beauty junkies this Fall. Plus, reflective lips turn you into a walking, talking mirror compact that your friends will appreciate anytime they need a touch-up (or have kale stuck in their teeth).

Read on for our favorite reflective lip art.

Drapple Is a Thing All Harry Potter Fans Need to Know About Right F*cking Now

Harry Potter fans are many things. Creative, brilliant, hilarious, and sometimes, we're a little weird. I talked with Tom Felton aka Draco Malfoy at the opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter Hollywood, and I obviously had to ask him the most important hard-hitting question of all: what's his favorite pair to ship in the Harry Potter world? When he asked me if I knew what "Drapple" was, everything I thought I knew about Harry Potter, Harry Potter fans, the internet, and life in general flew out the window. Basically, Drapple is a romantic relationship pairing that fans ship, or pull for, and it involves Draco Malfoy and an apple. A green one, like the one that started this madness in a scene in Prizoner of Azkaban. I actually felt like a terrible fan for not knowing about this, um, unique ship, which people argue is canon because, OK technically it is.

He does caress one lovingly in The Half-Blood Prince as he pulls it out of the Vanishing Cabinet. And the way he bites into that crisp, juicy fruit in The Prisoner of Azkaban does seem sexy, I guess? Sh*t, I think I've spent too much time in the depths of Tumblr . . . because am I shipping Drapple now too? No, for me, it's Dramione for life. Here's some of the internet's most creative Drapple memes, GIFs, and fan art that may have you weirdly shipping the pair but will definitely have you laughing out loud.

30 Photos That Show Queen Letizia Knows the Power of a Good Coat

We all know that Queen Letizia wears outfits not all royals could pull of, but while Spring and Summer are the seasons where we get to see the Spanish queen wearing floral dresses and even short skirts, it's Winter and Fall that we live for, when it's all about Letizia's coats and jackets.

Letizia probably has closets full of jackets, but just like mortals, she has favorites she wears again and again not just in one season, but through the years - you might be familiar with her fuchsia Marco Luengo coat with oversized pockets and her red Hugo Boss one-button jacket. Sometimes Letizia does debut a new piece that matches a dress or belongs to a suit set, but we live for the bright coats she uses to stand out.

After Waving to the Same Kids Every Week, 2 Garbage Men Received a Heartbreaking Note

Thursdays were a very special day for the Evenson family because it was the day the garbage men came, but once their 3-year-old daughter Rosie was diagnosed with cancer, their schedules inevitably changed. Over the last year or so, Angie Evenson's three daughters gathered by the window every Thursday and waited for the garbage men to come by to wave hello, and Brandon Olsen and Taylor Fritz eagerly waved back to the girls.

But in November of last year, the men received a note from the family that broke their hearts. The note explained that Rosie had been diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer, and though some of her treatments had been scheduled on Thursdays, the family hadn't forgotten about them.

Olsen was so upset when he read the letter that he knew he had to do something to help. With three children of his own, he couldn't help but sympathize with the Evenson family. "This family forever changed my life - I read the note and was in tears," Olsen told Today. "Being a father, it's scary to think, 'What if it were me in that situation?'"

Olsen and Fritz approached their boss at Hometown Sanitation and asked if they could offer the family one of the employee benefits they receive - free trash pick-up service for a year - and the company delivered a letter to the Evenson family, seen below.

"Please accept our gift of free garbage service for you through the end of 2017," the note read. "We know that expenses will add up as you make trips for this needed treatment, and hope that not having this one bill to deal with helps, even if just a little. As parents ourselves, we can only imagine what this is like for you. We want to wish you the best of luck as you fight on and battle through. Best wishes for a successful treatment and recovery. Stay strong, fight hard, stick together."

The letter and kind gift are helping the Evenson family smile and be thankful during such a hard time. The family has started a GoFundMe page to further help with Rosie's treatment expenses.
