You Won't Believe These Are Even the Same White Sneakers Thanks to This Cleaning Hack

Image Source: Unsplash / Haley Phelps

Sometimes when I buy white sneakers, I consider getting two pairs at the same time because I envision what those pristine shoes will soon look like after a few wears. Sparkling white turns to a weird grayish brown in no time, and try as I might, my attempts at cleaning them have never done the trick.

Twitter user sarahtraceyy may have just solved the problems of every white-shoe-lover with a simple cleaning hack that's a game changer.

She shared a before-and-after photo of her Converses, and it's hard to believe they are even the same pair of shoes. After being showered with a Twitter storm of questions, she shared her secrets with the world.

Sounds easy enough! She advises you to first rinse the sneakers, then mix one part baking soda and one and a half parts regular laundry detergent together, and simply scrub the shoes with a toothbrush. After letting them sit, she then rinsed her shoes in water and put them in the washer. She finished off the DIY by putting baby powder on the sneakers and letting them dry. Keep in mind these are specifically white cloth sneakers, so the DIY would need to be tweaked for something like white leather shoes.

Try out this cleaning trick on your white shoes, and make them look like new!

Cure Your Skin Care Woes and Pumpkin Cravings With a DIY Face Mask

It's officially pumpkin season! Sure, you're already hooked on pumpkin spice lattes and have made a date in your calendar to find the perfect jack o'lantern, but are you aware of the benefits that this iconic squash can provide to your skin? Packed with zinc, antioxidants, and vitamins, pumpkins protect your skin from wrinkles and age spots as well as gently exfoliating for a more radiant complexion. Don't have a pumpkin patch nearby? You can get this orange fruit (yup, it's a fruit!) in a can at your local supermarket.

  • Make your base: Whisk together about 1/4 cup of pumpkin and one whole egg. The yolk adds nourishment while the white provides a subtle tightening effect to sagging skin.
  • Dry skin additive: Add a few teaspoons of honey, which not only seals in moisture, but prevents breakouts thanks to its antibacterial properties.
  • Oily skin additive: For an astringent effect, mix in a splash of apple cider or cranberry juice.
  • Apply: Smooth the pumpkin-y potion over your face, relax for 15 to 20 minutes, and rinse to reveal a brighter, firmer, smoother complexion.

How to Get Foundation Out of Clothes

Countless shirts have been ruined by an innocent hug that left a large foundation smear. While your first inclination might be to reach for the makeup remover, think again. The oil, which is meant for the skin, might actually make the situation worse. Save your shirts, towels, bath mats, and more with three tips for removing foundation stains. Just keep reading for the details.

The 1 Floral Scent Both Kate Middleton and Princess Diana Wore For Their Weddings

To paraphrase The Devil Wears Prada, florals for a Spring wedding may not exactly be groundbreaking, but, according to Marie Claire UK, the scent has been good enough for the past two royal weddings. As it turns out, both Princess Diana and Kate Middleton both reached for two different (and extremely luxurious) flower fragrances.

When Princes Diana walked down the aisle to marry Prince Charles on July 29, 1981, millions of people watched. So it would make sense that the 20-year-old, who has reportedly only been on 12 dates with her future husband, would get a little nervous. As legend has it, Princess Diana was so shaky that she spilled her perfume, Quelques Fleurs by Houbigant Paris ($190), all over herself - and her now-famous dress.

The scent, which was supposedly her go-to, can still be purchased today - but it sounds almost too extravagant to spray. That's because one ounce of Quelques Fleurs is made up of around 15,000 flowers. The florals in question are rose, orange blossom, and lily of the valley. (Remember that last ingredient!)

When Kate Middleton became a Duchess on April 29, 2011, she chose a softer, more tropical tone. As per usual with any beauty product Kate Middleton uses, Illuminum's White Gardenia Petals sold out pretty much instantly once it was revealed to be the royal wedding fragrance.

Perhaps this choice included a small nod to Kate's late mother-in-law, as it carries a top note of lily. Brides-to-be: guess it's time to stock up on lily?

What to Pack in Your Bridal Beauty Survival Kit

Even the most prepared bride can encounter beauty mishaps on her wedding day. But you've spent so much time getting ready; it would be a shame to not be prepared in case something goes awry. So consider arranging a bridal survival kit to pack with you for the ceremony and reception. It should contain everything you need for wedding day minidisasters, from preaisle jitters to runny mascara and stained dresses. Spread the items among your bridesmaids so you'll never be without your tools in a clutch. Scroll to see what to have on hand to be prepared for every outcome or print it before your big day!

Makeup Mishaps:

  • Blotting papers to battle shiny skin in your photos
  • Makeup remover pads if you get misty-eyed
  • Lip gloss to keep you looking polished
  • Q-tips for smudges
  • Eye drops to quell redness
  • Facial tissues to wipe away what needs to be wiped away

Hair Hijinks:

  • Hair spray for quick pickups (and clingy dresses)
  • Extra hairpins for updos (but ensure the style passes a jump test, too)
  • Compact mirror for periodic dance floor checkups
  • Travel comb and brush

Dress Debacle:

  • Clear nail polish (if you're wearing stockings) to fix runs
  • An emery board, to prevent snags in case you get a jagged nail
  • White chalk to cover any stains or scuffs
  • Dry shampoo to keep sweat at bay under the arms and down the bride's back
  • Feminine hygiene items
  • Band-Aids for blisters and cuts
  • Krazy Glue for heel fixes and veil tears
  • Double-sided tape and safety pins to hold whatever needs to be held together together

Kissing Close-Ups:

  • A travel toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Floss and mints
  • A sample size of your favorite fragrance
  • Antacid, aspirin, and Pepto-Bismol to banish prewedding nerves and aches

17 Universal Red Lipsticks, No Matter Your Skin's Undertone

Wearing red lipstick can be terrifying (for me, it's exhilarating!). But before I got comfortable rocking ruby, I was intimidated by it. When you have a bold pout, it demands attention.

It can also be difficult to find your perfect shade of red. The makeup aisles and counters are packed with different iterations of red. Some are more pink, while others have more blue and purple undertones. And if you don't have the time, energy, or interest to work with a pro to find your ideal pick, then just go with a universally flattering red.

Dr. Victoria Fraser, the director of scientific communications in consumer beauty at COTY (formerly at Procter & Gamble) works with CoverGirl. The drugstore brand launched a red shade that fits into this category. She explains the theory behind why these red work for everyone.

"A universal red is a share that hits the sweet spot between cool tones and warm tones in what we call the color space," she told me at a recent beauty event. "So the hue is in between the two. What this means is if your skin has cool undertones or warm undertones, you can still wear it, and it's going to look great. Because that's often the challenge women have when finding something that works with their skin tones."

I also wanted to know what the shade actually looks like. "If you were to look at it, there would be no obvious pink undertones or blue undertones," she explained. "And there is no obvious sort of yellow. It's not a post box sort of red." (The post box is a reference to mailboxes in London.)

When I looked into it, I discovered that many brands at a multitude of price points have created universal reds. Keep reading to discover a rouge you can pull off, no matter your complexion!

5 Ways to Cope When Work Stress Just Isn't F*cking Worth It

For the lucky few, work is a safe space - a happy place where opinions are valued, relationships are supportive, and you are paid your worth in both monetary gain and time. Work gives you purpose, a sense of pride, external validation, and internal gratification. For the rest, work can be a source of tension, anxiety, and stress. Coworkers are passive-aggressive, bosses are mean, and your inbox is never, ever, ever empty. This is intended for the latter.

Eight in 10 Americans are stressed out by at least one thing about their jobs, with millennials experiencing higher stress than any other age group. In response, some companies are investing in their employees' well-being by offering in-office wellness programs, and stress-prone employees are trading networking for sweat-working and postwork cocktails for midday matcha breaks. Yet, studies have shown that these efforts are relatively futile against America's over-worked culture as anxiety and depression are on the rise.

It wasn't until I was given the privilege (and it is a privilege) to swap my traditional 9-to-5 for my 24/7 "Mom" title that I finally felt free. Gone were the Sunday night blues, weekend countdowns, and agony that accompanies in-office politics. With the snap of a finger, all of my prebaby career stress had dissipated, and I had realized how much time and energy were wasted on something that no longer mattered once I chose to walk away. This freedom brought with it the clarity that I can earn my way, without the other bullsh*t, and that is priceless.

Since quitting your job and living your best eat-pray-love life (probably) isn't realistic, here are some tips on how you can earn a living without it costing you your happiness.

1. Have no shame.

Seriously, no shame. Seek a job that makes you feel good, not what makes you sound good. Titles and promotions, chasing Benjamins, and keeping up with the Joneses will keep your wallet full but your soul dissatisfied. Take a pay cut and embrace a "demotion" if it means giving you more of what makes you happy. When you are passionate about what you do, big problems feel small and happiness feels multiplied.

2. Perks. Perks. Perks.

If you're going to spend most of your waking hours at work to begin with, make it worth your happiness. I have not paid for workouts or workout clothes in seven years. Why? Because I have sought jobs that have paid me in something I value more than money: my well-being. Write a list of all the luxuries you spend your hard-earned money on and seek a career that offers you what you love, for free! Trust me, nothing cures stress better than saving money on what you love.

3. Beware of culture shock.

Listen to your body. Your body will send you subtle messages if your company's culture is aligned or, more importantly, disaligned with your core values. Hate happy hours? Then beware of the frat boys throwing Nerf balls across cubicles. All for breaking that glass ceiling? Observe how many "nasty women" are running the show. Use your senses. Listen, watch, and feel. Trust your gut because it never lies (even when we'd like it to).

4. Create boundaries - keep your personal space sacred.

A few suggestions: Don't respond to emails after 6. Don't give clients your personal cell phone number. Use ALL of your vacation days. Discover what you value in life. Time off? Dinner with the family? Your 6 p.m. workout class? Honor your priorities and place the commitment to yourself above all else. When you chase your authenticity, the right job will not only respect you for it but also encourage it.

5. Walk away.

Like any relationship, if it doesn't make you feel good, it isn't f*cking worth it. The universe wants you to be happy. If your job creates more stress in your life than it promotes peace, I promise you that walking away from what is holding you back will open you up to the life you're destined to lead. You weren't born to work: you were born to live.

9 Hair Products the Pros Swear By

New drugstore and designer hair products seem to be popping up every day. Great news, except that it would be nearly impossible (both when it comes to time and cost) to test-drive everything and figure out what works best. That's why we're talking to none other than hairstylists, who have built their careers off of knowing their stuff, to help us pick the real winners. From the flexible, buildable hairspray that turned the beauty industry on its head to the conditioner of your curly-haired dreams (and a few solutions for thinning hair along the way), read on for cleansing and styling products the experts we spoke to deem worthy enough not only for their clients but also for their own locks.

This Modern Take on Disney Princesses Will Make You Want to Be Their BFF

If the Disney princesses lived in 2017, we imagine that Pocahontas would have a job in the environmental sciences and practice painting in her all-natural garden during her free time. Belle would frequent coffee shops, reading poetry by long-dead artists and cleverly dodging the advances of heart-eyed baristas and tech bros. Snow White would be the founder and CEO of a successful startup for an on-demand housekeeping app called "Whistle." At least, that's the vibe we get from the works of talented Chilean artist Fernanda Suarez, who has been sharing stunning pieces from her "Modern Princess" collection.

The modern portraits highlight the unique characteristics of each princess with an undeniably 2017 twist. Between trendy clothing silhouettes and sultry Instagram-style poses, the princess portraits are entirely believable, and you'll find yourself wanting to be BFFs with the Disney royals as you look through them all.

We've gathered the stunning pieces of art here, and if you want to support Suarez in her craft, you can visit her Patreon page. We can't wait to see which princess she illustrates next!

230 of the Best Collaboration Products MAC Has Ever Created

I have a good reason for keeping a MAC Cosmetics store on speed dial. When you're as obsessed with the brand's products as I am, you know that its collaborations are highly coveted . . . and that they sell out fast.

Though MAC has been around since 1984, the launches consistently surprise and excite the company's millions of fans. Its creative partnerships - and brilliant packaging - with fashion designers, cartoon characters, and celebrities cause multiple shopping frenzies throughout the year. (Permanently etched in my brain: the memory of aggressively shoving other beauty junkies aside, pleading with a sales associate to give me the store's last tube of Candy Yum Yum lipstick in 2012.) Believe it or not, MAC releases more than 10 partnership lines annually. The beauty empire has put out over 100 collaborations since its inception, starting with its very first Viva Glam spokesperson, drag icon RuPaul.

The first partnership product I ever snagged from one of the brand's counters was the Mothbrown shadow from the Barbie Loves MAC collection. I still consider this item to be one of my prized possessions, using the violet-tinged taupe only on special occasions.

If you're also a MAC fanatic, join me as I reminisce over some of the most memorable collections of all time. From Hello Kitty to Giambattista Valli and every collection in between, there are hundreds of beautiful, brilliant products to ogle over. These items are all tragically limited edition (many of them being discontinued), but there could still be hope! MAC has been known to resurrect fan favorites, so maybe you'll be able to shop one of these wondrous formulas in the future.

How to Create the Perfect Vintage Updo

Vintage hairstyles are eternally popular for weddings no matter the season, but a too-literal interpretation can leave a bride with a serious case of helmet head. So what's the key to borrowing from the past without looking stuck in it? Texture and movement. "The perfectly coiffed updo is outdated," says Dani Weidner, a stylist who worked at Robert James Color in San Francisco. "Imperfect is best."

To balance contemporary trends with a retro influence, Weidner designed this '20s-inspired updo. A defined curl and thick roll give a nod to the past, but the overall look feels fresh and current. It's an ideal style for brides - and it's one you can do at home. To get the look, read on for pictures and step-by-step instructions.

A Double-Duty Hair Idea For Naturally Curly Brides

Sleek looks never go out of style for a formal affair, but if you have curly hair, you'll want to make sure you're applying heat the right way to prevent damaging those delicate strands. Anthony Dickey, cofounder of Hair Rules Salon in New York, has the solution to getting the smoothness you desire, all while maintaining the integrity of your hair. So convert your curls into sultry vintage waves, or opt for a more modern asymmetrical updo. Here are two looks you'll love to try this holiday season.

5 Unexpected Uses For Hydrogen Peroxide

If you're like most people, the only reason you pull out your brown bottle of three-percent hydrogen peroxide is to clean a cut. It is a much less painful way to sanitize your wound than, let's say, alcohol (OUCH!). But did you know that hydrogen peroxide has a lot of other everyday uses as well? Keep reading to find out how to clean your kitchen, your toothbrushes, and even your feet.

13 Men's Fragrances That Women Find Attractive

Scent and memory are two things that are closely tied together. And just like your mother is devoted to her signature fragrance, you probably associate certain aromas with the men in your life. We can still recall the smell of Zest bar soap and fresh-cut grass that used to emanate from our dad on the weekends. So in the name of Father's Day, we've compiled our favorite colognes to suit every male personality - the lumbersexual, the dapper corporate climber, and even the adventurous retiree.

If You're Petrified of Going in For an STD Test, This Will Be a Game Changer

Image Source: Unsplash / Drew Hays

I'm not proud to admit this (and I'm requesting a mercy umbrella before I say it), but I went four whole years without getting tested for an STD. This was mostly due to the fact that I was traveling around the world for three consecutive years, and there were very few opportunities to pop in for a chlamydia test when I was, say, backpacking in the Sacred Valley of Peru.

However, that's not a good enough excuse. The CDC (Centers For Disease Control and Prevention) says we should all aim for at least one annual STD test, and I was royally failing to meet those standards. When I got back to the US at the beginning of this year, I knew it was time to get everything in order, including and especially getting all the necessary tests and checkups done.

Easier said than done, though. I'm terrified of STD tests, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. While some people may fear the dentist, I can't get anywhere near an STD test without feeling like I'm going to hurl on my APLs. For the most part, I've practiced safe sex, although there have been times when I had unprotected intercourse (mercy umbrella, OK?!), and that's what freaks me out the most. So even though I was back in America in January of this year, I only got around to getting tested a couple of weeks ago.

Thankfully, though, I didn't have to go to a clinic to get it done. I did it all in the stress-free comfort of my own home, sans stale waiting room, potentially condescending nurses, and chatty doctors. And it was all thanks to myLAB Box, an at-home STD testing service that only requires a Q-tip swab or a sample of your urine or blood. All you do is follow the directions on the box, mail it in the envelope provided, and voila! You kick your feet up, clean up the pit stains from your nervous sweat, and wait for the results.

When I opened the myLAB Box, I was surprised to see how simple it all was. Everything I needed came in the box, so I didn't have to worry about putting together any missing pieces. There were even easy-to-follow pictures showing what you were supposed to do. All I did was go into the bathroom and swirl the provided Q-tip around the canal of my vagina for 30 seconds. If you think putting a tampon in is easy, wait till you try this. Then I put the swab in the container, closed it, and put everything in the envelope to be mailed out.

Yes, I was terrified. I sweated. I drank chamomile tea. I pictured all the worst scenarios in my head and recalled all the times I watched Rent as a kid. But it was so much less stressful and anxiety-ridden than actually going into the doctor's office and getting it done. At least I could be comfortable and engage in self-care after the test was all done.

The most surprising (and perhaps most pleasant) part of my myLAB Box experience was how long it took to get the results. I was emailed just five days later saying that I could view the results online. I jumped onto the website as soon as possible - and breathed a sigh of relief. I tested negative for chlamydia and gonorrhea.

There are many different kind of boxes you can get from myLAB Box. You can get the basic test I got done, which just tests for chlamydia and gonorrhea ($79), two of the most common STDs out there. But you can also opt in for, among many other options, the HIV Home Test ($79), the Genital Herpes Home Test ($79), or the Uber Box ($269), which tests for HIV (I and II), hepatitis C, herpes simplex type II, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichomoniasis. The prices range depending on what you choose. The website indicates that myLAB Box is now accepting FSA and HSA cards, so you may want to speak with your provider to see if you can get some help in covering the cost.

If you do test positive for any of the tests, you will be able to view this result online. However, you're not left to fend for yourself. myLAB Box says a physician affiliate will be assigned to your account and will be in touch with you, either by phone or email, so that you can go over your results and ask any questions you may have. The whole process is discreet as possible, so don't worry - you won't get an obvious text message or email explicitly saying that you tested positive for gonorrhea.

According to the myLAB Box website, you can request a free treatment phone consultation with a physician if you test positive for chlamydia, gonorrhea, or trichomoniasis. You do that by sending an email to customerservice@mylabbox.com. But the availability of treatment and consultation varies by state and symptoms. No matter what your results are, don't hesitate to reach out to myLAB Box and ask questions. It will point you in the right direction, and you'll be in touch with a medical professional in no time.

Overall, if you haven't gotten tested in a while and you're too scared to get yourself to the doctor, I strongly recommend myLAB Box. Don't wait for as long as I did to do it, though. The sooner you can learn about your sexual health, the better. Even if you test positive for something, you and your doctor will figure out the best treatment, and you'll come out on the other side victorious!

What You Need to Know When Planning to Shop on Thanksgiving Day

There is no denying Black Friday is the most festive day of the year for bargain hunters. From door-busters to early-bird specials, any fan of this fast-paced frenzy would tell you the key to snagging the best deals is to properly plan for the big day ahead. But in recent years, many of the larger retailers have been starting the show early and opening their doors on Thanksgiving Day. Although not everyone agrees with this strategy, if you're gearing up to hunt down the absolute best sales of the season, launching your shopping voyage during this time might be worth the effort.

To assist in your planning, take note of the stores that have confirmed they will be open on Thanksgiving Day.

  • Walmart: The only major holiday to close down Walmart is Christmas, so these stores will be open for limited hours on Thanksgiving Day. However, the window of time when these stores will be open varies depending on location. The best way to find out the hours for your local Walmart is to use the official Walmart store locator tool.
  • GameStop: Despite remaining closed on Thanksgiving in 2015 and 2016, this year the company has confirmed it will be open. It has not yet finalized Thanksgiving hours, but as time gets closer to the big day, just as with Walmart, you can find specific opening hours via the online store locator tool.

While most stores have yet to announce their Thanksgiving schedules for 2017, below is a list of the hours offered by major retailers last year, which can help better predict your route for this year. And don't worry - we'll be updating any confirmations we receive to the list, so be sure to bookmark this page!

This Easy DIY Proves Anyone Can Do Pin Curls Like a Pro

While I adore my curling iron (and wouldn't go on a vacation without it!), there is something to be said for being able to travel light. That's why pin curls are such an awesome solution. All you need is a bit of hair balm to create hold, bobby pins, and a blow dryer (though you can also just rely on the air and time, if needed). How easy and minimal is that?

If this technique seems intimidating, then don't worry. Hair pro Gina Schiappacasse of Hairstory, a cool downtown members-only salon, has broken down the steps in this easy tutorial. The result: those messy-sexy beach waves you crave. Keep reading, and prepare to be floored by how simple it is to do.

Tiny Wedding Tattoo Ideas Every Inked Bride Should Consider

If marriage is forever, then making a long-lasting commitment to your partner via a tattoo is one way to pay homage to your love. Sure, you can step outside of the typical bridal beauty look with an unexpected hairstyle or nail art, but an edgy tattoo makes more of a statement. 4 Surprising Changes I Experienced When I Gave Up Coffee For a Week

I recently fell off the fitness wagon - hard. I honestly couldn't tell you what the catalyst was for my downfall from fairly healthy human into full-blown sloth, but I just couldn't talk myself into working out or caring much about what went into my body anymore. Instead of taking cycling classes several mornings a week and enjoying the occasional dance class, I started thinking of the walk between the fridge and my couch as an acceptable form of cardio and let buckets of coffee replace exercise as my morning jolt.

Sure, this behavior was a blast for a week or two, but before I knew it I was six weeks deep into the sedentary blob lifestyle and feeling . . . not great. It was time to face the facts: I was in a rut. Also, my pants didn't fit.

Inspired by my coworkers' seriously impressive wellness experiments, I decided that undertaking one (small) healthy experiment of my own probably wouldn't kill me, and it might even be the nudge I needed to get my general health game back on track. So in the name of zipping up my jeans and giving my couch a night off sometime in the near future, I volunteered myself for a low-key wellness project that seemed like it could get me into a healthier frame of mind again: quitting caffeine cold turkey for a week.

I should probably apologize now to anyone who interacted with me during those first two dark, caffeine-free days (withdrawal headaches are not a joke, people), but by day three, I started to notice some differences in my mindset and body that made it worthwhile. So will I be cutting out caffeine forever? Absolutely not. Did I have a small cup of coffee this morning to celebrate finishing this little project? You bet. But moving forward, I'll think of caffeine as a treat instead of a necessary component for survival in my food pyramid. And I'll keep in mind that sometimes all you need to snap out of a rut is a tiny reminder that you're capable of getting yourself back on the fitness wagon every time you fall off.

Below, I've spelled out four benefits I noticed from my caffeine-free week, from a change in my diet to a shift in my mental state. Dare you to try it next!

1. Breakfast Made a Comeback

I always thought of myself as someone who ate breakfast religiously. That's because prior to my workout slump, I had been. The only way I survived all those morning cycling classes without passing out and/or wanting to die was by fueling up beforehand. But when I was forced to skip my morning coffee, it hit me that my breakfast routine had apparently gone out the door along with my workouts. So instead of starting my day by guzzling a vat of caffeine and calling it a meal, I got back into the habit of eating a piece of fruit and toast or whipping up some oatmeal in the mornings. Another bonus from replacing morning caffeine with food: I felt like I made some better food choices at lunchtime because I wasn't completely starving by midday, too.

2. I Was Noticeably Calmer

Like many people, I've found that my anxious tendencies have definitely gotten worse with age. And even though I've known for a while that caffeine probably wasn't helping in that department, I had no idea just how much it exacerbated my symptoms until I went without it. After the first two days, I found that I fell asleep quickly (something that really isn't easy for me) and was generally less on edge throughout my day, even if everything didn't go as planned. Seriously, this perk alone made the experiment worthwhile for me!

3. I Was Way Less Bloated

Most of my beloved caffeinated drinks also have sugar in them (or artificial sweetener) which - fun fact! - causes bloat. Boo. Swapping out my regular rotation of Diet Coke, Diet Snapple, and coffee with sweetener in favor of plain seltzers and warm water with lemon made my usual case of afternoon bloat disappear almost completely. Do I actually like plain seltzer and warm water with lemon as much as Diet Coke, Diet Snapple, and coffee with sweetener? No, I'm not a monster. But sitting all day at your desk feeling uncomfortably puffy is the actual worst, and zipping up your pants without having to lay down is pretty awesome. So, there you have it.

4. My Sugar Cravings Went Away

Aside from easing bloat, the reduction of sugary-tasting drinks in my diet actually reduced my cravings for sugary foods, too. Apparently even drinking or eating artificial sweeteners (the ones I most often use) can dial up your cravings for sugary treats across the board. By the end of my caffeine-free week, I wasn't craving something sweet after eating something savory anymore, and I actually caught myself describing a snack as "too sweet," which has definitely never happened before.

Maybelline Is Launching a Millennial Pink, Coconut-Scented Mascara - Game Over!

During Spring 2018 New York Fashion Week, makeup artists were using a lab sample for a coconut-infused mascara by Maybelline. And I've been hunting it down ever since. Let me repeat that: a Maybelline coconut mascara. How cool!

This magic wand - dubbed Total Temptation - combines a bevy of buzzy aspects, including the aforementioned coconut ingredient, matte millennial pink-colored packaging (similar to KKW Beauty and Fenty Beauty by Rihanna), and a drugstore price point ($9). The cap also has an easy-to-grip flat part.

OK, now that you already know you want it need it, let's get into the nitty-gritty deets. The mascara formula is light and fluffy, like a soft mousse. That is because it's whipped with coco butter. When I applied it, Total Temptation instantly made my lashes feel conditioned, similar to lash primer.

It gives lashes a voluminous, dense look; and for me, it also added length in just a few swipes. (See proof in the photo below.) This is not a mascara you'll need to stroke your lashes with for a full minute until you see results. Rather, it adds instant lift and density. Maybelline pros suggest wiggling the wand from base to tip, but I prefer a clean stroke, and then I feather out the ends.

The scent is subtle. This is not a sugary vacation cocktail in a mascara, but rather a hint of soothing coconut butter that you'll experience if you hold the tube up to your nose. I have pretty sensitive skin and eyes, and the fragrance did not irritate me.

You can buy Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara in Brownish Black, Very Black, and Blackest Black at Amazon now and at your local drugstore in January 2018.

Anastasia Beverly Hills's Holiday Collection Is Here, and You're Going to Want It ALL

Mere months after dropping the Subculture Palette to mixed reviews, Anastasia Beverly Hills is back with a new collection, and it's clear the brand isn't here to play. That's because ABH has just released 10 new products that make up its 2017 Holiday Collection, including "Prism," a new palette. And guess what? These babies are all seriously gorgeous and will give you the brand's famous glow.

Chances are, you've been waiting patiently for this collection ever since you saw ABH President Claudia Soare looking like a luminescent goddess while wearing powders from the launch's Glow Kit. Seriously, the woman was only just sitting in her dang car, but her highlight was so on point.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, meet the Glow Kit's following four shades: "Marshmallow" (iridescent white), "Gumdrop" (a soft lilac), "Starbust" (frosty pink), and "Butterscotch" (bright gold). This range of colors ensures you'll never be of want for a new way to sparkle.

Two new blush sets, Gradient and Radiant, are also included in the line. The first is made up of earthy matte shades like "Dusk" (a medium brown), "Vegas" (a deep berry), "Chocolate" (a cool mocha), and "Blackberry" (a juicy purple).

Radiant includes "Coastline" (a sandy peach), "Spoiled" (a soft pink), "Breeze" (a warm pink), and "Terrace" (an electric orange). Whereas Gradient includes cool neutral tones, Radiant packs a punch of girly color. This is not your New England grandma's holiday collection - there is no pumpkin spice for ABH. Instead, these bright, surfer girl colors are pure West Coast sunshine.

Three new Liquid Lipsticks are a-coming for your beauty bag. By now, you probably know, love, and hoard this product, as it's opaque, yet nondrying and super pigmented. The new hues are sandy browns and soft pinks, so again, if you're asking Claudia Soare, subtlety is the trend of Winter.

Finally, of course, there's the piece de resistance - the brand spanking new Prism Palette. While ABH fans were quick to note on social media that at first glance the 14 new shades strike a resemblance to Subculture, look again and you'll notice that the ultramatte, duo chrome, and metallic finishes sparkle way brighter - because it's the holiday!

We're especially excited about Dimension, a holographic silver powder with speckles of reflective pink (think Daenerys meets unicorn hair), and Throne, a shimmery camo that looks like a Winter evergreen tree - if it sparkled.

Remember, back in August, Norvina called upon social media to let fans have a say into what the new palette's formula should look like. In an emotional post, she asked for constructive criticism, so we can't wait to see how she ran with suggestions about how the powders should feel.

Ahead, see every gorgeous thing you can get your hands on today via the Anastasia Beverly Hills website.

Tyler Florence's Hack Will Forever Change the Way You Make Mashed Potatoes

Image Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Nicole Perry

Food Network chef Tyler Florence shared his mashed potatoes recipe with us, and I immediately had to try it. Traditionally, potatoes are cooked in water before being mashed together with butter and cream (or milk). However, Tyler suggests cooking the potatoes in the cream itself, so no potato-y flavor is lost. He explains, "Potatoes have a really delicate, beautiful minerality to their flavor profile, and when you cook potatoes in water and you pour that water down the drain, you've extracted all the flavor of the potato. So what I do with mashed potatoes - because you finish them with cream and butter anyway, right? - is I'll take that same cream and butter and add that to the potatoes and cook the potatoes in cream and butter." Would that actually work? Would it actually taste good? I had to find out.

As Tyler instructed, I added "cold, peeled, chopped potatoes, cream, butter, and olive oil" to a pan. He also told us, "I like garlic. I like sage and rosemary flavor combinations, and a little bit of thyme." To my pot of 3 pounds of potatoes, I added enough half and half to just barely cover the potatoes. Frankly, I was scared about using straight cream, which is why I deviated slightly from his instruction. I then added about 3 tablespoons of salted butter and 3 tablespoons of olive oil. I added a few cloves of peeled garlic and half a bunch each of sage, rosemary, and thyme. I also included a significant amount of salt (at least a teaspoon) so the potatoes could absorb some of the flavor while cooking. I covered the pot and allowed it to simmer on medium until the potatoes became fork tender, about 20 minutes. The aroma in my kitchen was unbelievable.

Here's what Tyler told us to do next: "When the potatoes are tender, I put a bowl on the counter and a colander inside that bowl. I pour the potatoes through the colander, and the cream will collect on the bottom. Then I'll put the potatoes back into the pot and take the potato-infused garlic cream and fold that back into the potatoes, and it's the most incredible flavor profile. It's the best mashed potato you'll ever taste in your entire life." And so, I did just that. I drained the potatoes, collecting the rich liquid while discarding the herb stems. I then mashed the potatoes, adding back in the liquid until I created velvety smooth mashed potatoes with little specks of garlic and herbs. I salted and peppered to taste and served up with my lemon-garlic-parsley roast turkey and gravy. These mashed potatoes are pure heaven. I can now agree with Tyler's affirmation; they really are the best mashed potatoes I've ever tasted in my entire life. And even though I was scared it would be a huge flop, I'm never going back to any other method again.

3 Weight-Loss Rules For Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day for so many reasons. But you need to make sure that you're doing it right. If you're trying to maintain or lose weight, here are some things to consider when enjoying your first meal of the day.

Eat It Soon

Studies have found that eating breakfast jump-starts your metabolism, and not only that, it can help ensure that you don't feel so starved later that you make bad eating choices for lunch or dinner. To take advantage of your body's fat-burning potential, try to eat breakfast soon after waking up.

Go For Filling

Stay away from foods that can lead to a midmorning crash. Instead, opt for meals that are full of slow-digesting nutrients to help keep you satisfied throughout the morning; high-fiber, high-protein breakfast options are a good choice for feeling full and energized. And make sure your breakfast doesn't have too much sugar in it - here are seven low-sugar, high-protein, and fiber-filled breakfast ideas that fit the bill.

Watch Out For Portions

A big breakfast can help fill you up, but you don't want to overdo it. Check out our handy chart of what servings sizes should look like, and keep calories in check with this list of the amount of calories in typical breakfasts.

Is Gold-Leaf Hair Worth It? We Put the Trend to the Test

Would you put gold leaf in your hair? After seeing this hair trend all over Instagram, we felt compelled to give the look a go for ourselves. And while it's a fa-la-la-worthy way to show off your holiday cheer, we have to admit it's not for the impatient.

The trick to keeping the gold leaf in place is to use gel. Paint the gel where you'd like to apply the gold leaf, then use tweezers to adhere the gold leaf itself. And try different metallic shades, depending on your hair color; bronze, copper, and silver look gorgeous as well.

Truth be told, it can err on the side of aluminum foil, so be sure you're not using pieces with jagged edges. The good news is that if this style isn't for you, all you have to do is brush it out and grab a metallic hair accessory.

The Only Protein Bars That Are Worth Buying

No matter who you are or what you do, you need protein. It builds muscle, keeps your bones strong, and helps you lose weight (if that's what you're going for). But when you're in a hurry to get from one place to the next, you may not have time to sit down and have grilled chicken or a tofu scramble. That's when you reach for a protein bar, especially if you've just finished a workout. But you have to make sure you're not unwrapping a bar that's full of crap preservatives and unknown ingredients. Not to worry. We're here to help out. Here are some of the healthiest protein bars out there, so you know you're getting the good stuff when you bite into them.

Once seen as something otherworldly, Pilates is everywhere these days - you probably know someone who is at a Pilates studio right now! 15 Beautifully Bizarre Gifts For the Twin Peaks Fan

Did you fall in love all over again with Agent Dale Cooper, Albert Rosenfield, and the rest of the Twin Peaks crew when the show returned in 2017? Or perhaps you discovered it for the first time and are on your third rewatch, trying to figure out just what the heck is going on all the time? Either way, if you're a fan of David Lynch's weird little show, or if someone you love is, POPSUGAR has a plethora of gifts to consider this holiday season.

Moms, Take Thanksgiving Off This Year

I've decided I'm giving myself a pass on Thanksgiving this year. Sure, a few months ago, I told my whole family that I would be happy to host, knowing I was overdue and not really thinking about what the commitment truly involves. "Some light cleaning, buying a turkey, whipping up a few sides . . . what's so hard about that?" was pretty much the extent of my thought process. Both of my kids would be back in school, after all, so in my mind, I'd have hours during the week to prep for the holiday.

Then school started, and instead of feeling like I had less on my plate, I was quickly reminded that with the school year also comes Fall sports practices and games, extracurricular activities, and more play dates, not to mention all the never-ending barrage of permission slips, homework, fundraisers, and carpool obligations. Instead of catching up on The Real Housewives, I was doing pick up and drop off and organizing weekends around birthday parties and soccer games and trying to find a few hours a week to work and exercise. So much for the breather; I was busier than ever.

Even worse, I remembered that Thanksgiving is sandwiched between the two biggest kid holidays of the year: Halloween and Christmas. Though we're still a month out from the first, my kids started talking about costumes in early August, I already have three Halloween parties on my calendar, and then there's the small fact that my neighborhood now expects me to hand out gallons of homemade drinks (spiked and kid-friendly) and host a night-of after-party. It's all fun, but it's a lot of work to make a holiday I don't really like special for my kids.

And less than two months after we get through that spook-fest, we're celebrating Christmas, with all the shopping, wrapping, eBay bidding on sold-out toys my kids just have to have, tree trimming, light-viewing, cooking, celebrating, and traveling that the most wonderful time of the year involves. It's magical, yes, but also exhausting, especially when you're the one who executes 98 percent of that magic for your children.

And then, in the middle of those two mom-driven holidays, I'm supposed to make a formal feast for my entire family and serve it up in my perfectly clean, not-a-Batman-action-figure-in-sight, beautifully decorated home?! A house that I had also realized would be occupied by my children all week long because school is out the entire week of Thanksgiving?! I quickly started brainstorming ways to get out, realizing that what had seemed like a fun task months out was actually an overwhelming commitment that was liable to put me in the nuthouse before I had a glass (or magnum) of New Year's Eve Champagne.

Luckily, everyone was understanding about me bailing from my hosting duties. My mom and I found an alternative location, a well-stocked rental house two hours from home that neither one of us would have to clean before or after our family arrived and departed, and decided to turn the holiday into a family trip for whomever can make it, with a side of turkey. I'm now simply in charge of the stuffing and the salad, and that, I'm pretty sure I can handle. Thanksgiving might be a time to celebrate family and express gratitude, but this year, what I might be most grateful for is not having to be in charge of yet another holiday for my family.

Nicole Ate Tacos and Pizza Almost Every Night - and Dropped 50+ Pounds

Losing weight isn't easy, but that didn't stop Nicole from reaching her goals. She went from battling depression to working out with a personal trainer and learning to cook her own healthy meals, and now she's down 50 pounds! She says she feels better than ever, and she assures us that anyone can make the changes she did as long as they stick to their guns. Here's her full story.

POPSUGAR: When did you start your weight-loss journey? What made you decide to?

Nicole Napolitano: I started in April 2017. Even though I've always been somewhat overweight, I reached my heaviest weight ever - 265 pounds - back in February 2017. I was floored. I didn't realize I had gotten that heavy. I felt defeated and fell into an awful depression that edged on suicidal. It felt like I wasn't in control of making any changes because of my anxiety. But Fit Girls Guide made weight loss look fun, so I decided one day, with the encouragement and support of my boyfriend, to just try it out. I had nothing to lose (but weight!).

PS: How much weight have you lost so far?

NN: I've lost 50 pounds so far and plan on losing more.

PS: How did you do it? Did you follow a specific diet?

NN: I followed the meal plan and workout calendar provided by Fit Girls Guide's 28-Day Jumpstart. One night, I'll be making tacos and the next night I'll be making pita pizza. I'm not going to lie, I didn't follow the meal plan to a T day by day - I would just make sure that if I was going to go off the books, so to speak, I was still turning to foods that seemed to be healthy, not processed - low in sugar, fresh, etc. I learned how to cook healthy and make better choices when dining out without feeling like I would be shamed if I went off the meal plan.

PS: Did you do a specific workout type or schedule?

NN: What I usually do is three rounds of a circuit followed by a half hour of cardio, four to five times a week. I have a trainer who comes to my gym two times a week to help me with my back problems, too, since I have a slipped disk in my lower back. He guides me in what I can and can't do so that I don't further injure myself.

PS: What are some nonscale victories you've experienced?

NN: The most exciting NSV I've experienced is wearing a crop top in public which I have never done - and I did it with confidence. I felt hot! Also, fitting into jackets that I couldn't even squeeze my arms into or zip up at the start of my journey. Other NSVs just include how I feel. I don't feel like sh*t every day anymore. I don't feel like I am going to puke after meals anymore. I feel satisfied and energized after eating, not sluggish and on my deathbed like I used to. And I actually enjoy the gym now! I see it as a therapeutic experience instead of a punishment.

PS: How do you stay motivated?

NN: I stay motivated through my support system. Fellow Fit Girls, my friends, family, and boyfriend are all there for me when I need them to keep me on track. I have my days where I want to quit and I feel like all of this is pointless. I turn to them when I need help because it is easy to get lost in your own self-destructive thoughts.

I ask myself daily, "What can I do to get closer to my goals today?" Whether it be going to the gym, making all of my meals, or hitting my daily step goals (10,000) on my Fit Bit. Small victories are the only way to keep myself in the now. If you look at the big picture and your desired end goal, it's easy to get overwhelmed and discouraged. It makes the process seem so much more daunting.

Finally, doing side-by-side progress photos helps me see how far I've come. Looking at them helps get me motivated when I'm feeling down.

PS: What does a typical day of eating look like for you?

NN: This is one of my go-to breakfasts: two slices of Ezekiel bread with one egg, avocado, and a little bit of cheese, turkey bacon, and hot sauce. Another one is a protein drink or smoothie. One of my favorites is a wonderful combo of spinach, mangoes, milk, vanilla Vega protein powder, honey, banana, and cashews. Top it off with a huge-ass cold brew.

For lunch, I generally throw together a salad with whatever fresh ingredients are in my fridge or I'll put them in a wrap. Sometimes I'll make quinoa bowls - I created a quinoa bowl that was a spin on the burrito bowl from Chipotle, which is my favorite new healthy lunch.

Dinner honestly can be anything from the Fit Girls Guides' books, like pumpkin-ricotta lasagna roll-ups, chicken parmesan, tacos, pizza, macaroni and cheese, etc. I utilize healthier ingredients and substitutes than what is in the "normal" versions, and I portion them out in a way that keeps the calories down.

Thankfully, I've never been much of a snacker throughout the day, but if I do have a snack I'll usually reach for a baby bell cheese, a banana, or an apple. I do love my dessert, though. My after-dinner go-to usually includes Halo Top ice cream or one of the amazing desserts from Fit Girls. I really like strawberries with almond butter and a melted dark chocolate drizzle. Oh, and red wine.

PS: Any advice or tips for people on their own journey?

NN: If you have a "bad" meal or feel like you have fallen off the wagon, don't punish yourself (mentally or physically). Just accept it and move on. This isn't a diet; this is a lifestyle change. That means yes, you will eat healthy, but you will still be a human being who eats whatever the hell they want sometimes and that's fine. It's called balance, and we need it to stay sane. You just have to get used to picking yourself back up and continuing to push after "cheating." Giving up will give you far fewer results.

Don't rely on the scale, either. Sometimes you gain muscle. Sometimes you're retaining water. Your weight will fluctuate accordingly. Of course, it's good to check in on where you are from time to time, but don't be tied to the scale. There are tons of other ways to track your progress, like taking photos, feeling how certain clothes fit, measurements, how you feel physically, etc.

PS: Anything else you want to share?

NN: I'm not saying it's going to be easy. It was never easy for me. You just become accustomed to the changes in your daily routine. You really have to look at the whole thing less as a weight loss journey and more of a self-improvement thing. It's something to make you feel better - and the weight loss is an added bonus. Regardless of the various crying fits and breakdowns I've had along the way, it was all worth it. I don't regret any of it for a minute.

The Cutest Pictures of Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía of Spain

It seems like just yesterday when King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain announced the birth of their first daughter, so it comes as a total shock that it was 12 years ago that Princess Leonor, the heir to the throne, was born in Madrid. From day one, the little royal graced us with the sweetest pictures (and the most adorable outfits) at family outings and official events.

Then, in 2007, the cuteness doubled with the birth of her sister, Infanta Sofía, and thus began a time of matching outfits, coordinating hairstyles, and mischievous sisterly smiles. Keep scrolling to see the best pictures of the two royals through the years.

Could Kate Middleton's Faux Lob Be a Hint Of to What's to Come?

It's no secret that we're all pretty obsessed with Kate Middleton's hair, and her most recent look is no different. During the Duchess's recent appearance at the Remembrance Sunday service on Nov. 12, she debuted a new updo that we can't help but speculate is practice for an upcoming dramatic cut.

She was seen on the balcony with the Countess of Wessex sporting a carefully coiled faux bob under her hat. If you're familiar with the hair conspiracy theory that Kate debuts a new style before a big event, such as having a baby, she may well be practicing before she decides to get the chop for real.

Whether she's testing out the new length ahead of royal baby number three's arrival, or just trying out a faux bob for fun, we're as obsessed with this look as we are all her other styles.
