This Genius Video Game Is For Every Black Women Who's Tired of People Touching Her Hair
It's never OK to touch a black woman's hair without her permission. Unfortunately, that simple concept is still hard for many people to understand. That's why one Oregon-based woman has developed a video game to drive home the point, and the result is absolutely genius. Go ahead and get ready to cancel all of your plans today, because after playing Hair Nah, you're going to be addicted to this hilariously executed - and important - website.
Momo Pixel created, designed, and wrote the music for Hair Nah, which looks a lot like an '80s arcade game. Pixel is an art director for the Portland ad agency Wieden + Kennedy. Serita Wesley is a publishing producer for the same company and interviewed Pixel for the W+K-affiliated website On She Goes. According to Pixel, Hair Nah was born out of a common problem.
"I'll be walking, and a woman will reach her hands into my head," Pixel said. "I'm talking to a teammate, and a co-worker I just met is holding my hair in his hand. I'm in the checkout line, and the cashier will reach across to caress my braids." Yeah . . . not cool, people.
If you, too, constantly have to fend off would-be strand-caressers, then you will absolutely cheer while playing Hair Nah. Here's how it works.
What's the Real Deal With Hydroquinone?
Hydroquinone has become pretty controversial in the beauty world. One minute, it's the miracle ingredient for clearing up dark spots, and the next, it's supposedly carcinogenic. It's hard for anything to be deemed trustworthy and effective once labeled as a cancer causer. Yet, through all the fuss, experts have maintained that hydroquinone remains the gold standard for erasing hyperpigmentation and age spots. So in all that toxic talk, what's the truth? We asked three experts to weigh in.
Why all the fuss?
"Much of this controversy stems from its ban in South Africa due to side effects," explained Sejal Shah, NYC cosmetic dermatologist and founder of SmarterSkin Dermatology. "Subsequently, other countries banned hydroquinone. It turns out that the questionable products in South Africa contained mercury and other contaminants, which more likely account for side effects being seen."
Dr. Shah further explained that there have been reports of hydroquinone causing cancer in mice when administered in high doses orally, but there are no studies to date showing that this happens in humans and with a topical application. "When properly formulated and used, hydroquinone can be extremely safe and effective, and we have numerous studies confirming this," Shah added.
Does it bleach skin?
Rachel Roff, a medical esthetician and founder of Urban Skin Rx, quickly squashed this myth. "When used within a safe strength, hydroquinone doesn't bleach someone's natural skin tone. It evens out the skin," Roff said. While it may not be proven to cause cancer, if used incorrectly, it can leave skin vulnerable to excessive sun exposure, which could mean a higher risk of skin cancer and sunburn.
"As a general known fact, side effects of skin bleaching, regardless of product or ingredient, include skin irritation and sun sensitivity," dermatologist Dendy Engelman said. There's also a condition called ochronosis, where the skin darkens. This reaction is mainly associated with high concentrations of hydroquinone that has been used for prolonged periods of time.
When do you need hydroquinone?
The main purpose of hydroquinone in skin care is as a lightening agent. "Skin lightening is performed for a variety of reasons, including sun damage. Melanin (aka pigment) is produced by skin cells called melanocytes, and various topical creams are used to reduce the amount of pigment that is produced to brighten the skin," Engelman said. These include hydroquinone, which is the most common, botanical extracts, and antioxidants.
How do you use it safely?
A hydroquinone regimen should be used for no more than three to four months at a time, followed by a minimum of two months off. After the two months, if hyperpigmentation is still an issue, you can return to using hydroquinone for another three- to four-month period.
What if you just can't get behind hydroquinone?
While the experts agree that nothing works on dark spots quite as fast as hydroquinone does, there are ingredients that are just as effective. It may take longer to see results, but natural solutions like kojic acid, alpha arbutin, niacinamide, and vitamin C can help even out your skin. Something like SkinMedica Lytera 2.0, a pigment-correcting serum that is retinol- and hydroquinone-free, balances the skin's melanin production and resists triggers that cause discoloration.

Aw! Chris Pratt Pets a Tiny Dinosaur in New Jurassic World Footage
From our Jurassic family to yours. @FilmBayona @PrattPrattPratt @BryceDHoward @LeDoctor #FALLENKINGDOM http://pic.twitter.com/KiR3et9Vx1
- Colin Trevorrow (@colintrevorrow) November 22, 2017
It's been more than a couple years since Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard brought us back into the dinosaur kingdom with Jurassic World. Luckily (or unluckily, depending on how you look at it), we haven't seen the last of these gargantuan prehistoric creatures. Time is ticking down to the June 2018 release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and this week, we finally got to see some footage of the sequel. Unfortunately, the clip - which was shared by director Colin Trevorrow on Twitter - is only six seconds long. But considering it shows Pratt melting while petting a tiny dinosaur, we will happily accept it. The real issue is not watching it 100+ times.
The Unconfirmed Call Me by Your Name Sequel Already Has a Setting
Warning: ending spoilers for Call Me by Your Name below.
If you've already immersed yourself in the idyllic romantic journey of Call Me by Your Name, there's one thing to say for certain: time is the enemy. The incredible story follows two young men, Elio (Timothée Chalamet) and Oliver (Armie Hammer), as they fall in love over the course of six short weeks during one magical Summer in Italy. Perhaps the most striking aspect of the film's ticking clock is that it clearly affects the characters, but it affects the audience as well. Speaking for myself, I never wanted the romance to end. Luckily, director Luca Guadagnino has already kind of, sort of begun planning a sequel.
Just ahead of the film's release, I sat down with Guadagnino to discuss the beautiful world he'd created. When I asked if he'd considered what direction he might go into with the tentative sequel, he offered a few titillating details about what may lie on the horizon. "I think the next film will be about 1989, 1990," he said. "It's going to be six months in between those two years. This is six weeks and the next one is going to be six months."
Obviously, I pressed for more details. Would it still take place in Italy?! "We'll see," Guadagnino said with a smirk. I also noted that the ending of Call Me by Your Name doesn't quite leave the door wide open for the future. After all, Oliver calls Elio on the phone, when the gorgeous Summer has wilted into a dark and dreary Winter. Oliver tells Elio that he's engaged . . . to a woman. When I pointed this out, Guadagnino asked, "Are we sure Oliver moved on?" To which I said, "I guess not."
Whether or not Call Me by Your Name gets a sequel, one thing remains true: this is a timeless story, an instant classic that will hopefully sweep through award season. Nevertheless, the adoration I developed for the characters makes me want more. Here's hoping we get it.
Think Beyond the Frosty and Get These 5 Healthier Orders at Wendy's
Look: at the end of the day, fast food is fast food. Don't expect to find fresh organic produce and artisanal, seasonal plates at a drive-through. That being said, we've been doing a little digging lately to find the "least bad for you" options at places like McDonald's, Panera, Starbucks, and Taco Bell. The verdict? There are some surprisingly nutritious options, at low prices, on the go.
Next on the agenda is Wendy's. Whether you are traveling, are pressed for time, are in a pinch, or got dragged along, DROP THE FROSTY (a large glass of chocolaty goodness will run you 80 grams of sugar, which is approximately four times your daily limit). Instead, opt for one of these under-400-calorie plates.
Note: If you need a Frosty, or it's your special treat, get the junior size - 200 calories and five grams of protein, but 27 grams of sugar (yikes). It's not the end of the world, obviously, but just be conscious when you're ordering on the go, and factor it into the rest of your healthy, balanced life.

Can Sweet Potatoes Help You Lose Weight?
If your exposure to sweet potatoes is limited to the Thanksgiving table or your favorite diner's healthier french fry option, now's the time to open your eyes to the weight-loss wonders of the tuber. Here are three reasons sweet potatoes help you drop pounds.
They're naturally sweet: No refined sugar overload here - sweet potatoes make for a healthy, lower-calorie treat. Satisfy any morning sweet/salty cravings with these sweet potato apple pancakes, and get your healthy dessert fill with these sweet potato desserts.
They regulate blood sugar: Sweet potatoes may have their fair share of carbs (about 33 grams per cup), but they contain a compound that increases levels of adiponectin, the blood-sugar regulating hormone, in the body. Sweet potatoes have a relatively low glycemic index rating (50), which can also help prevent blood sugar spikes after you eat. Regulated blood sugar levels can help get rid of those sugary cravings you get when your levels dip. And while studies have been conflicting, some research has shown that low-glycemic foods stay in your digestive tract longer, helping you control your appetite. To maintain sweet potatoes' low-glycemic properties, boil or steam them instead of roasting them (which destroys some of these properties).
They contain fiber: High-fiber foods are another foolproof way to control hunger. Fiber helps you feel fuller for longer, and one medium sweet potato (about one cup) contains four grams of the nutrient.
Sweet potatoes don't just help you trim your waistline, however. They're powerful sources of vitamin A, which helps boost immunity and promotes good eye, skin, and bone health, as well as high levels of anti-inflammatory antioxidants. Regardless of whether you're trying to lose weight or not, sweet potatoes' seemingly superfood status isn't a license to order all the sweet potato fries you want - a 2011 study found that those deep-fried sweet potato fries may not be as healthy as you think!
Here's What - and When - to Eat Before Working Out
When it comes to working out, it's important to feel energized, but it's not always as simple as grabbing a snack on your way out the door. Eating too close to exercise is a recipe for discomfort, but heading to the gym hungry isn't ideal either.
To learn how to maximize the potential of a workout, I spoke with nutritionist Heidi Skolnik, MS, CDN, FACSM, and author of Nutrient Timing for Peak Performance ($20) to find out what to eat and when before heading to the gym.
Mom's Note to Stranger at McDonald's Who Got Involved When Her Toddler Wouldn't "Go Potty"
A stranger in a McDonald's bathroom overheard a typical fight between a mom and her toddler: the Kansas parent was trying to reason with her 3-year-old to pee before they left to get back in the car.
The stranger listened in as Tiffany Miller tried to explain to her daughter that it was a long drive home and she had to use the potty before they left. She also heard the child explain that she was afraid the toilet was going to flush while she was sitting on it. Despite her mother promising to block the sensor and prevent it from flushing, the little girl wouldn't comply, and promised to make it through the drive home without having an accident.
In a heartfelt thank you to this stranger posted on her Facebook, Tiffany explained what happened when the woman decided to step in. "You told her you would give her a bracelet if she would go potty for Mommy. She perked up and agreed," Tiffany wrote. "I turned to quickly put her on the potty (before she changed her mind). You told her the bracelet would be waiting outside the stall for her. I turned to say thank you, but you were already gone."
When the child finished using the bathroom she found a bracelet and a candy bar waiting outside her stall. "Her eyes lit up as she put the bracelet on after using the bathroom," Tiffany wrote. "We made it home to Wichita safely and she is currently sleeping soundly next to me . . . still wearing the bracelet."
Although the woman was gone before Tiffany could catch her name, she's grateful for this stranger's act of kindness: "I wish I could have thanked you in person, but maybe you will see this. If not, hopefully it inspires someone else to be kind like you were."

This Reflective Lips Trend Turns Your Mouth Into a Mirror
Time to bust out that polyester and rewatch Star Wars, because the 1970s are back, baby, and beauty trends are getting funky. From bouncy curls and shags to metallic everything, the fabulous decade is being emulated in every way makeup enthusiasts can imagine. Lately, we've noticed that people are straight up turning their lips into disco balls - and we are living, nay, stayin' alive for it.
We first noticed the look on Jazmina Daniel, who wrote on Instagram that she was inspired to jump on the mirror train after receiving a package that included silver reflective paper. According to Daniel, "I cut it out to the shape of my lips and glued it on with some lash glue."
This tin foil-esque look is a cool departure from the gold lamé we've been seeing and loving on beauty junkies this Fall. Plus, reflective lips turn you into a walking, talking mirror compact that your friends will appreciate anytime they need a touch-up (or have kale stuck in their teeth).
Read on for our favorite reflective lip art.

This Is What the 4 New Fenty Lip Glosses Actually Look Like on People
Since Fenty Beauty by Rihanna's beloved Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer launched, we've been nonstop using the flattering pink-and-gold formula. But like other Fenty fans, we've been hungry for more. Thankfully, Fenty is launching four additional shades on Oct. 13, dubbed the Cosmic Gloss Lip Glitter, to give us our fix.
This new formula is considered a hybrid of pigment, glitter, and gloss. Basically, it's like a supersparkly liquid lipstick with a latex finish. That said, it is meant to feel creamy, so you don't have to sacrifice comfort for a statement lip. As early testers, we can confirm that it's just as nourishing on the lips as Gloss Bomb, and also has that delicious vanilla scent.
To help you decide which color to buy, we swatched every shade and also took selfies wearing the gorgeous color! Keep reading for our reviews.

A Look Back at Alex Rodriguez's Dating History
You might not remember that when Alex Rodriguez was just a young baseball player with the New York Yankees, he was married (to a psychologist he met at a Miami gym!). We don't blame you, ARod has been linked to more than a few (very famous) women. Some were just rumored flings, while others were long-term relationships he flaunted with PDA. (We almost forgot about the time he dated Cameron Diaz for over year.)
Now, the 41-year-old is head over heels for his new leading lady Jennifer Lopez. And, while the two have been going strong, we're looking back at those who came before J Lo. Keep reading for a peek at Alex's love life.

Don't even get us started on Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's "Despacito" breaking every record or Jennifer Lopez featuring Gente de Zona's "Ni Tu Ni Yo"! The best part of all of this is that Zumba instructors everywhere felt inspired by these tunes and uploaded their own dance workout routines on YouTube. They make it super easy to get a workout in from the comfort of your own home to the songs you've been getting down to anyway.
Trust us when we tell you that you will use parts of your body you didn't even know existed, but it will be fun because you will be moving along to some of your favorite tunes. Grab some workout gear and put our theory to the test.
OMG, This Tarte Vault Is a Really, Really, Ridiculously Good Deal
If you're a makeup-lover, the holidays are a time of reaching for the stars, budget-wise. While your wish list might include more zeros than your paycheck does (fairy godmother, I want this 50-piece, $1,980 Tom Ford lipstick collection, and I want it now), it doesn't have to be that way. In fact, as Tarte's latest vault proves, budget beauty can be just as fabulous - and opulent.
Take, for instance, this Tartelette Vault ($100), which includes the Matte, In Bloom, and brand-new Toasted Palette, all for much less than the kits would retail separately.
If you're palette-obsessed, you probably live for the days you bring home another set of powders to add to your collection - well, imagine the delight in bringing home (or unwrapping) three! Two of the sets (Matte and In Bloom) are old favorites. Matte is somewhat of a "desert island" palette that features 12 versatile, creamy, and everyday shades.
In Bloom has the same amount of shades in similar hues but kicks things up a notch because these colors include shimmer, metallic, and darker options.
Since Toasted only just dropped earlier this month, perhaps you haven't had time to try it out just yet. But now is definitely the season for this collection of 12 burnt, fiery shades, as the shimmer options are perfect for holiday parties and feeling yourself this Fall.
Bought individually, these palettes would cost a total of $134. With this limited-edition vault, you can get things for a considerably cheaper price. We did the math, and with this deal, each shadow comes out to about $3. Of course, each of these kits will last you about two years, making the Tartelette Vault a pretty cost-effective option.
Looking fabulous for less than the price of your morning coffee? Happy holidays, indeed.

You Decide: Are Taylor Swift's Edgy Nails a Dig at Kim and Kanye?
While Taylor Swift has become ubiquitous for many beauty styles - bold red lips and winged eyeliner being the main culprits - we can't say we've ever really noticed her manicures. Don't get us wrong, Taylor's nails have always been clean and impeccable, but she usually sports short, rounded manis. But with the drop of her new single, "Look What You Made Me Do," that has all changed.
Just look what she's made us do - the normally nail-art-averse singer has us zooming in on her manicure. In a teaser for her upcoming video that will premiere at the VMAs, Taylor did a complete style backflip and opted to wear metallic gold claw nails.
Since the shot of her mani also showed Taylor wearing bedazzled snake rings, just about everyone was quick to assume the style was a not-so-subtle dig at Kim Kardashian. This dis would be twofold. For one, during their 2016 feud over Kanye West's "Famous" lyrics, Kim likened Taylor to the snake emoji on Twitter.
The second clue is that just about everyone in the Kardashian clan is known for the extreme length of their (sometimes pierced) manis. Since Taylor ditched her signature nail look for the one Kim's become famous for, many are inclined to believe the style is absolutely intentional.
Of course, a lot of other people wear claw nails, too. Taylor could just be rocking the style because it goes with her video's dramatic aesthetic. Regardless of her intentions, we'll always be fans of beauty experimentation. Do you, Taylor! (But maybe don't eat any more diamonds).
How I Kicked My 20-Year-Long Nail-Biting Habit For Good
"I feel sorry for your fingers." Those were the six words that came out of the woman's mouth when she took my hands to try and bless them with a manicure for my wedding. Can I get an ouch?
As painful as that sentence was to take in - especially so close to my big day - truth be told, it was just what I needed to hear to recognize how out of control my nail-biting habit had become. See, I've been a nail-biter for 20-some long years. Looking back, I can't recall how this grotesque, compulsive habit even started, but it's one that has followed me well into adulthood.
It's embarrassing, to say the least - and honestly, I don't think many people realized how much the constant urge to pick, pull, or bite at my fingernails consumed me. But really, that was my goal, because every time I'd shred my cuticles to the point where they'd be dripping with blood - gross, I know - I'd hide each wounded finger so no one would notice. Because what sane person nips at their nail (and the skin around it) until red liquid oozes out, right? To make matters worse, I would feel strangely satisfied each time this happened.
If you are also a chronic nail-biter, I'm hoping you can relate. (By hoping, what I really mean is: please tell me you've experienced similar scenarios so I don't feel too crazy.) And if by chance you are nodding your head in agreement, please know that I, too, feel your pain. What's more? I've got good news for you.
After years of searching high and low for an effective nail-biting solution - and literally trying every single program under the sun - I finally found a method that actually worked. Although it was one of the hardest challenges I've endured, I'm confident that if I can nip this nasty habit in the bud, anyone can.
So if you're ready to quit biting your nails once and for all - and, let's be real, who isn't? - your guide to beautiful hands awaits ahead!

Jaw-Dropping Then-and-Now Photos of the Twin Sisters Who Gave Birth 15 Minutes Apart
Twin sisters Corey Struve Talbott and Katie Struve Morgan knew they were expecting their babies 10 days apart, but when they unexpectedly gave birth on the same day and within just 15 minutes of each other, they couldn't have been more shocked. Before giving birth to Indie Mae and Ryatt Rae, Corey and Katie took stunning maternity photos in blue gowns to commemorate going through pregnancy at the same time. A year later, the sisters slipped on the same dresses and grabbed their 1-year-old girls to re-create their maternity shoot.
"I photographed Corey and Katie's maternity photos last year. I thought it was so sweet that two sisters got to experience such a special time together," Brenden Boggs of So Cute Photo told POPSUGAR. "Even though their due dates were a few weeks apart, they ended up giving birth on the same day only 15 minutes apart! We all joke that they are twin-cousins!"
With Indie and Ryatt celebrating their first birthdays, Brenden thought it would be fun to re-create Corey and Katie's maternity shoot with the girls, and the twins loved the idea. "We were cracking up at how loose the dresses were," Corey told POPSUGAR of the now-iconic blue dresses.
"It was so much fun to see how much life can change in a year," Brenden said. "Now Corey and Katie have two beautiful baby girls full of personality, and they all can't wait to see what adventures the next year of toddlerhood brings!"
Ahead, see the gorgeous photos Brenden took of the moms and their little ones plus a YouTube video of the twins' birth stories, and follow Indie and Ryatt on Instagram for daily doses of cuteness.
Selena Gomez's New Hair Took 9 Hours and 8 Bowls of Bleach
We all collectively gasped in admiration when lifelong chocolate brunette Selena Gomez debuted a new icy blond shade at the American Music Awards. We wouldn't blame you if it inspired you to immediately book an appointment with your colorist. If you plan to take the platinum plunge, however, you should come prepared. Thankfully, the woman behind Selena's new hue filled us in on the quite grueling process.
Riawna Capri, who tag-teamed with Nikki Lee, revealed on Instagram that the "Nirvana Blonde" shade took "9 hours, about 300 foils, and 8 bowls of bleach, all with two stylist[s] working together simultaneously." DAMN.
She continued, "It was a nice, long patient process of baby fine slices, then going back and opening each foil and reapplying, but done in one sitting." Addressing fellow stylists, she assured that "anything is possible in one day, it just takes time, no other clients ha, and patience to maintain the integrity of the hair."
As for her advice to aspiring platinum blondes out there, Riawna urges you to "be VERY patient with your stylist." For hair as chic as Selena's? Anything.
Wet n Wild Is Making History With an Albino Model in Its New Campaign
Thanks to Wet n Wild, your drugstore beauty aisle just got more diverse. The brand rolled out its "Breaking Beauty" campaign, which celebrates inclusivity by casting five gorgeous, nontraditional models as its faces. Wet n Wild is also making history - one of the women is Diandra Forrest, who has albinism. This is the first time a model with albinism is repping a major beauty launch.
You may have seen Diandra walk in New York Fashion Week or grace the cover of Ebony back in 2015. Now, she's joined by four other women to promote Wet n Wild's new launches, which are mostly vegan and ultra-affordable (the brand told POPSUGAR that its $9 Cushion Compact will be the cheapest of its kind on the market).
The other faces of Breaking Beauty are Michelle Zauner, an Asian-American musician; Briana Marquez, an Olympic weightlifter turned model; Mama Caxx, an amputee-rights advocate; and Valentijn de Hingh, a Dutch transgender model. As Diandra told Refinery29, being cast in a major beauty campaign fulfills her lifelong dream "to normalize what albinism is being depicted as."
That alone is enough to get us very excited, but don't forget that with a campaign comes new beauty products! Eight items are being dropped, including two foundations (one liquid and the aforementioned cushion option). Diandra said that Wet n Wild's 20-shade foundation range is exactly what she looks for as an albino woman: "When I showed up on set, I felt so comfortable . . . [the foundation] made me feel so beautiful."
Once you're done doing the happy dance over this win for beauty diversity, read on to see this newness for yourself. These products will launch in December on Wet n Wild's website and then expand to drugstores in January 2018.
17 Photos That Prove Blond Works on Every Skin Tone
We tend to be so attached to our hair that even the merest cut or trim can spark months of mourning until the lost inches grow back. That's even more true when it comes to color. Despite the popularity of bright hair color trends inspired by everything from Fruity Pebbles to candy floss, the idea of going blond is still a bold move many shy away from. If you're on the fence about adopting the bold color, let your inhibitions go and let the following beauties inspire you to become a bottle blond.
All the Places You Can Watch Fixer Upper Right Now
HGTV announced in September that everyone's favorite home improvement show, Fixer Upper, is ending after the next season. Season five will be the last set of new episodes for Texas couple Chip and Joanna Gaines. Nooooo!
Of course, it's understandable that the Gaines's might want a break. They recently revealed that they film the series 11 months out of the year, and it hasn't left a lot of time for family activities. Plus, their fame has led to several other expansive business opportunities, like their own home store, bakery, and real estate agency, so Chip and Joanna definitely have their hands full.
But if you want to keep reliving the gorgeous renovation projects (and also the Gaines's adorable family life on their Texas farm), here are your options for watching previous seasons.
- Old episodes are rebroadcast all the time on HGTV, including a marathon that is running all day on Nov. 21, the day of the season five premiere. Check your local TV listings for all broadcast times.
- A handful of episodes are available to stream on the HGTV website.
- Sling TV streaming service offers HGTV live and on-demand with its most basic package, which runs $20/mo.
- The first three seasons of Fixer Upper are available to stream on Hulu.
- The first four seasons of the home renovation show are available for purchase on Amazon Prime.
But take heart, fans. Season five will run for 19 episodes, plus the spinoff series, Fixer Upper: Behind the Design, is debuting in May 2018.

Or they pack a lot of luxury into a tiny package, like a faux fur throw, or the world's coziest slippers. Of course, a touch of custom or quirk is always welcome in any gift, like a set of whiskey glasses from a favorite city, or a cheerful bird mobile because . . . well, just because. Whether your thing is form or function, these fun and functional gifts are perfect for your apartment-dwelling friends.

20 Things That Happen When You Stay at a Sandals Resort
Whether you're 9 years old or 90 years old, you've probably seen an ad for Sandals Resorts. (Think iconic cursive logo set against a beachy backdrop.) While it may seem like a massive operation, the all-inclusive chain remains intimate and family-owned, just like when it was founded in 1981.
Today, the company boasts five brands and 24 properties throughout the Caribbean, including places like the Bahamas, Jamaica, and most recently, Grenada. Sandals invited me to visit their newest resort - formally called Sandals LaSource Grenada - in late April to find out what the property is actually like beyond the commercials. The place is as beautiful as you can imagine, and the clientele ranged from couple friends in their late 20s and 30s to elderly pairs celebrating their decades-long anniversaries.
Although Sandals often offers sales, prices aren't exactly cheap - you'll most likely drop more than $1,000 per night. If you're thinking of staying at a Sandals resort anytime soon, here's what you can expect.
Cure Your Skin Care Woes and Pumpkin Cravings With a DIY Face Mask
It's officially pumpkin season! Sure, you're already hooked on pumpkin spice lattes and have made a date in your calendar to find the perfect jack o'lantern, but are you aware of the benefits that this iconic squash can provide to your skin? Packed with zinc, antioxidants, and vitamins, pumpkins protect your skin from wrinkles and age spots as well as gently exfoliating for a more radiant complexion. Don't have a pumpkin patch nearby? You can get this orange fruit (yup, it's a fruit!) in a can at your local supermarket.
- Make your base: Whisk together about 1/4 cup of pumpkin and one whole egg. The yolk adds nourishment while the white provides a subtle tightening effect to sagging skin.
- Dry skin additive: Add a few teaspoons of honey, which not only seals in moisture, but prevents breakouts thanks to its antibacterial properties.
- Oily skin additive: For an astringent effect, mix in a splash of apple cider or cranberry juice.
- Apply: Smooth the pumpkin-y potion over your face, relax for 15 to 20 minutes, and rinse to reveal a brighter, firmer, smoother complexion.

What Diversity and Inclusion in Modeling Means to 9 Victoria's Secret Angels
With 55 models representing 20 countries cast in the 2017 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in Shanghai, it was bound to be the most diverse cast yet. And when we spoke with the models backstage before they show, they were feeling empowered by these stats.
Plus, lead hairstylist Anthony Nadar and Tom Pecheaux made sure to embrace the models' natural beauty and features. For hair, Nadar gave most models glam bombshell waves using a blow dryer, extensions, and a curling iron. While this style looks gorgeous on many, it can damage natural hair. So anyone who has curly hair was able to rock their god-given texture. On the makeup side, Pecheaux cocktails Victoria's Secret Velvet Matte Lio Cream Stains to create bespoke nude shades for each model.
Here, nine models weighed in on what being in the most diverse roster yet means to them.

This Kindergarten Shamed 1 Mom For Her "Unacceptable" Snack: Raisins
After packing her little one what she considered to be an appropriate snack, one mom is sharing the surprising note that her child came home from kindergarten with.
The mom from Australia first shared the note on a closed Facebook group, and it has since gone viral for its criticism of dried fruit. "Please help us to encourage nutritious eating habits in children. Our healthy eating policy asks you to provide healthy and nutritious snacks for your child to eat at kindy," the note read. "The sultanas (golden raisins) packed for your child today are unacceptable at kindy due to its high sugar content."
Many parents are shocked at this school's response to the lunch, but nobody is as surprised as the mom who received the note. "This must be a joke? Of course they are high in sugar, they are fruit," she wrote in her Facebook post's caption, according to Kidspot. "Today's lunch consisted of a sandwich roll, two boiled eggs, an orange, kiwi fruit, and a handful of sultanas. She never has packaged food in her lunchbox or anything with refined sugar."
Kathryn Hawkins, a dietitian and mom, came to the parent's defense over this lunch shaming, which so many other well-intentioned moms and dads have faced recently, because she wants it to stop. "If your child enjoys sultanas and feels happy when eating them, then that is a great choice for them. If you are a busy working household and grabbing a box of sultanas for the lunchbox makes it a bit easier for you, then it is a great choice for you," she wrote on Facebook. "You DO NOT have to feel one bit guilty for putting a box of sultanas in your child's lunch and you DO NOT have to 'explain' why."
The Completely Addictive Method of Cooking Broccoli and Cauliflower
It won't be a challenge to eat your veggies if you try this easy technique for roasting cauliflower and broccoli. For months, a few women in our office have been praising roasted cruciferous veggies. I'm already a huge fan of baked kale chips, roasted brussels sprouts, and oven-crisped cabbage, so I'm not sure why it took me so long to try out roasted cauliflower and broccoli. Now that I have, I'm never going back to the steamed stuff. The oven morphed the little veggie trees into crisp nuggets that could almost pass for chips. They are addictive . . . don't be surprised if those around you fight for the last bites!
Here's what you'll do:
- Cut the broccoli and cauliflower into equally sized pieces.
- Spread across a rimmed sheet tray, leaving space between each floret. Drizzle olive oil across the veggies and salt and pepper to taste.
- Roast in a 400°F oven for 18-23 minutes, or until crispy to your liking.
There's a Reason This Wine Advent Calendar Totally Sold Out Last Year
I'm already a huge fan of Vinebox, a wine-by-the-glass subscription service that serves up vino in cool single-serve vials. So when I found out that the company is bringing back its "Twelve Nights of Wine" calendar again in 2017, I immediately hopped online to preorder my own. The glass-a-night advent calendar was so popular last year that it completely sold out within four weeks, and it's easy to see why.
Advent calendars are easily the best part of the holiday season. Free sh*t simply for waking up in the morning? Count me in, man. As a kid, I lived for the chocolate-filled advent calendars, giving me an excuse to have at least a tiny bit of dessert every day even when my parents were trying to teach me restraint. (An effort that clearly didn't work, considering that I write about cheesecake for a living now.) But now that I'm an adult, there's only one type of calendar that'll do as I count down to Christmas: the kind that's filled with booze.
Anyway, this is a great option for wine-lovers who can't get their hands on Aldi's popular, UK-exclusive advent calendar. The selection of 12 specially curated wines runs for $129 and comes in a special holiday box. Because of its popularity in 2016, Vinebox is offering the calendar on preorder starting Oct. 1 - which means you can set yourself up for a Winter of wine very soon.

Watch how to do it, then master the method so you can save tons of time - it will take just 15 seconds once you become a pro!
I Was Raped at 14 - Why Talking About Consent and Sex Is Critical to Ending Sexual Violence
The following guest post comes to us from Catherine Sharp, a volunteer who worked for 10 years in finance and operations for an online media company. Catherine volunteers for Planned Parenthood as a Rapid Response administrator, a fundraiser committee member, and a speakers' bureau member.
Let's be clear: most men don't leave for a night out with the intent of rape. They leave with hopes of a good time and maybe getting lucky. Some men focus more on the getting lucky part since it is considered a trait of masculine success.
During the Summer of 1985 one such young man, I'll call him Steve*, headed out to a party to have fun and maybe score. I happened to be in his path. I was 14 when I lost my virginity to Steve, a handsome 20-year-old introduced to me by my aunt. I thought Steve was cute and was flattered that he believed my aunt when she told him I was 16. As the night wore on and I drank the too-strong drinks my aunt gave me, I ended up asleep in her bed. I woke in the night to Steve in bed with me. He was naked, had undressed me, and had his hands all over me. I was groggy, shocked, scared, and confused. Before I knew it, he was on top of me attempting intercourse. I pushed against his chest, clenched my legs together as tight as I could, and repeatedly said "no."
Apparently, this was not enough to send the message that I was not a willing participant. Somehow, he managed to force himself inside me, all while I was resisting. When he finished he said to me, "You would be pretty good if you relaxed a little." Even in my state of shock I was incredulous. I couldn't help but think, "What do you mean?! Relax a little?! I was using all my strength to stop this!"
Confused and outraged by his words, I did not know what to do. I was scared and ashamed that I "let this happen." Of course, my 95-pound, 14-year-old self was no match for Steve, but I still felt responsible. Years of being told to ignore or brush off sexist comments, butt slaps, bra snaps, arm punches, and hair pulling led me to believe that my discomfort with Steve's actions was my problem. Unable to find my clothes in the dark, I snuck into the hall bathroom, naked, bloody, and sticky. I had no idea why I was bleeding and had no previous experience with semen. I cleaned myself up as best as I could and contemplated what to do now. My shame kept me from alerting anyone in the apartment (though I later found out everyone knew what was happening and no one did anything to help me). I feared leaving my aunt's apartment and going home to my dad's house. My unexpected middle-of-the-night arrival was sure to raise questions for which I had no answers, and I had no confidence that I would be protected there either. I was left with the "safest" option of going back into the bedroom where Steve was passed out and waiting for morning when I was due to arrive at home.
At the age of 14 I was already getting pressure from boys my age to have sex or "go all the way." Girls would talk about the need to lose their virginity before they died, as if the prospect of death was imminent. The whole idea of sex just terrified me, so I assumed I was just weird. As a result of these experiences, I spent the rest of the night convincing myself that "this was for the best" and that "it was the only way" I would have sex for the first time. It turns out, I just wasn't ready for sex, with anyone. Having had zero conversations with my parents and very little medically accurate sex education, I did not know that it was OK to not be ready. I did not know that the first time having sex could result in bleeding, that semen was a sticky mess, and that I was physically OK.
Daylight finally broke, I found my clothes, dressed, and went home, maintaining an attempt at business as usual. The next evening I received a phone call from Steve asking me if I was all right. Of course I was not all right, but I would never let him know that. I quietly told him that I was "fine" and got off the phone. He already hurt my body; I would never give him the power to hurt my mind, too.
I heard from my aunt that evening as well. She told me that Steve said he "wouldn't have done that if he'd known how old I really was." This was the final straw for me. How on earth does my age justify his actions? What he did was wrong, no matter how old I was. Fourteen years old, a child, and yet I knew that my family's response was wrong and Steve's actions were wrong, but I did not possess the language or understanding to communicate what I was experiencing. All sense of safety was gone. No one would ever protect me, not my parents, not my family, and not my school. It was going to be up to me.
My sex and reproductive health education at this point consisted of pamphlets left on my dresser by my mom that covered menstruation and female puberty. My concept of a vagina came from reading the instructions that came with my first box of tampons. As a result, I thought I was well informed, but only by comparison to my peers. Receiving sex education at school would have taught me about pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, birth control, and sexual behaviors. A comprehensive sex education would have also emphasized concepts like consent, respect, and bodily autonomy. Words and concepts that did not exist in my mind that would have helped me process what happened and maybe ask for help.
Now, many years later, I realize Steve was just a 20-year-old sexually entitled young man, a product of his environment and societal expectations. I do not hate him; I even feel a bit sorry for him. I imagine him as if he were my son. He probably does not think of himself as a rapist or realize that his actions were rape. Deep down, he knows he did something wrong and yet may not fully understand it, causing its own set of problems. "Girls don't put out, it is a guy's job to get them to" is a common theme among men. It spans culture, race, age, and socio-economic status. It is past time for ideas like this to end. It is not good for men and it is certainly not good for women. Talking about consent and sex is critical to ending sexual violence, sexually transmitted infections, and teen pregnancy. Let's start the conversation by bringing comprehensive sex education to all schools.

Before-and-After Photo of Kindergartener's First-Day-of-School Hair Is Going Viral
Markeisha Simien sent her daughter, Charle-feigh, off to her first day of kindergarten wearing her school uniform and a beautifully braided hairdo. From the look of her Facebook photos, the mom takes great pride in doing her 5-year-old's hair and likely expected to see her daughter sporting the same intricate 'do on her way home later that day. However, Markeisha was surprised to see her girl walk out of class with quite a different style - one a bit more . . . disheveled, to say the least - and is even more shocked that her daughter is going viral because of it.
The mom posted a side-by-side photo of Charle-feigh's hair to social media, but was overwhelmed by the response to her girl's "before and after school chronicles." Luckily for us, Markeisha decided to repost the photo and is embracing the laughs her girl's hairdo is bringing to complete strangers.
"Thanks everyone! She is really a joy! But I lost it all yesterday when I saw her hair!" Markeisha wrote in a comment on the photo. "I was upset, true! But me and my baby laughed together at her hair redo!"
Markeisha says she has started asking Charle-feigh every day if she's going to play with her hair again, and though the girl says "no," the mom has a feeling her child is probably lying. Here's hoping Markeisha's right and that more hilariously adorable before-and-after photos of Charle-feigh come about as a result.

We Will Never Get Over Queen Letizia and King Felipe VI's Wedding
On May 22, 2004, we were glued to our television, hoping to get a glimpse of Letizia Ortiz, now the queen of Spain, in her gorgeous wedding gown. Even in our craziest Disney-princess-inspired dreams, we could have never imagined the stunning silk-woven dress and 15-foot train designed by couturier Manuel Pertegaz. The way it wrapped the stylish bride's slim body and moved as she walked down the aisle to meet then-Prince Felipe VI at the altar left us in awe.
Twelve years later, we're not over that moment and often find ourselves looking back at photos of the big day when the oh-so-in-love royals tied the knot at the Cathedral Santa María la Real de la Almudena in Madrid, Spain. Now, you can do the same - just keep scrolling to relive the event.
