The 18 Best Gifts For the Gamer in Your Life
Finding the perfect gift for the video-game enthusiast in your life can feel daunting, especially if you don't play games yourself. With the choices as numerous as they are, it's hard to know exactly what to buy - Nintendo, Xbox, or PlayStation? Classic handheld console or hyperfuturistic virtual-reality headset? It can be an overwhelming undertaking to even crack the surface of all the gaming tech that's out there right now.
It's for this very reason that we've gone through all of the hottest consoles, accessories, and games of the year to make your decision just that teensy bit easier. Ahead, you'll find 18 of the must-have gamer gadgets that made waves in 2017, all of which are sure to please.
Tenor's 5 Most Popular GIFs of 2017
2017 has been one hell of an emotional year. Thankfully, the 12-month-long rollercoaster ride of feelings we've been on has been accompanied by an overabundance of perfect GIFs - it's due to those brilliant, one-of-a-kind images that arrive at just the right time that many of us, tired of talking and typing out our thoughts, are able to express just the right sentiment to our family and friends.
Now, as the year is finally drawing to a close, the folks over at Tenor - the top GIF keyboard across iOS and Android, as well as many of our most used social media apps - have pulled together the top GIFs that were shared from the platform in 2017. This year, the GIFs we shared were a whole lot more negative than the ones we shared in 2016. And it's with that data that Tenor was able to come up with the official mood ring of 2017 (and compare it to the mood ring of 2016), as seen here:
"Because Tenor is used to communicate tone and emotion in messaging conversations hundreds of millions of times per day, GIF searches on Tenor indicate how people around the world are feeling," Tenor cofounder and CEO David McIntosh told POPSUGAR exclusively. "Not only did Tenor search data show we were feeling worse this year compared to 2016, but that GIFs on Tenor are used to express the full range of human emotions."
Ahead, you'll find the top five GIFs of the year, as compiled by the Tenor team. And be sure to scroll all the way through to the end, as it wouldn't be an official year in review if we neglected to show just how much things have changed in a mere 12 months.
Get Ready to Binge, Because Amazon Prime Is Now Available on Your Apple TV
The moment we've been waiting on for years is finally here: as of Dec. 6, Amazon Prime is finally available on our Apple TVs. Gone are the days of using the mirror function of your iPhone to stream Amazon's infinite catalog of movies and TV shows to your Apple TV, and here to stay is unlimited access to commercial-free binge-watching from Amazon's very own dedicated app on your home screen. Oh, and let's not forget that the addition of Amazon to the Apple TV catalog means that you can now use Siri to easily search through the massive library of Prime content and find exactly what it is you want to watch.
"Prime members can now access thousands of titles through the Prime Video app on Apple TV 4K and previous generations of Apple TV, including Prime Original Series and Movies such as The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and The Big Sick, with additional titles coming to the service every month," Apple's official announcement reads. And we couldn't be more grateful for the timing; the news comes amid an ongoing battle between Amazon and Google that has left many of our other devices only playing YouTube or Prime, and now we can officially watch all the goodness of all the major content providers with one easy-to-use device.
As an added bonus, the Dec. 6 Apple TV update also comes with the ability to stream live sports via the TV app on your Apple devices. And if you'd rather just watch the good stuff, you can set up your notifications to tell you to tune in right as the action is happening - that's right, you can now keep watching the next episode of The Tick and not worry about missing the play of the year. Ain't technology grand?

These Are the Songs That Alexa Was Asked to Play Most in 2017 - by Their Unforgettable Lyrics
Amazon's Alexa is a digital assistant of many talents. Alexa can turn on your lights, tell you the news, rope you into a rousing bout of Jeopardy!, or play any song you've ever listened to in your digital library - all with a simple sentence and in just a matter of seconds. But as we found out this Fall, one of the best features of the Echo version of Alexa is that her remit isn't limited to playing a tune by its proper title. Regardless of how much you butcher the title, so long as you belt out one accurate lyric with which to track it down, Alexa can scan the massive Amazon Music library and instantly start playing the exact song you're looking for.
Naturally, the lyrics most frequently requested are a sight to behold. Back in October, Amazon took note - and treated us to the very first chart of Alexa's most requested songs.
Now, as we count down the final days of 2017, Amazon has released the definitive ranking of the top Alexa lyric requests of the year . . . and boy is it one hell of a list! And you're in luck, because we've pulled it all together for you for easy consumption - and, of course, oodles of giggles. So, without further ado, behold the top 40 lyric requests of 2017. But be forewarned: we can't promise that you won't have these one-liners stuck in your head for days to come.

Behold, the Most Hated Comment in Reddit History
I will always be the first to admit that a lot of what I consume on the internet is a direct result of what I see being upvoted on Reddit. If you're not familiar with the phrase, upvoting is the equivalent of "liking" something on Facebook or "faving" something on Twitter - with the ultimate goal being not just the crowd's approval, but to land your post at the top of the Reddit charts and onto the so-called front page of the internet. That being said, despite making several trips to Reddit.com every hour of every day for the last several years, I rarely come across a post that gained attention not because of the number of upvotes that it garnered, but because so many people gave it a negative rating (or, more colloquially, downvoted it).
But that all changed on Nov. 12, when Electronic Arts (EA) decided to respond to some user criticism of the forthcoming Star Wars Battlefront II.
The title of Reddit user MBMMaverick's post is "Seriously? I paid 80$ to have Vader locked?" and reflects a sincere sense of dissatisfaction with the price paid for the forthcoming game. "This is a joke. I'll be contacting EA support for a refund . . . " the user writes, adding, "I can't even playing f*cking Darth Vader?!?!? Disgusting. This age of 'micro-transactions' has gone WAY too far. Leave it to EA though to stretch the boundaries." A little strong, perhaps - but certainly not anything too controversial. If I had a quarter for every time someone said a video game was overpriced . . . well, you get the idea. Anyway, the response from EA was swift and straight to the point:
Unfortunately for the gaming giant, Reddit is never the right forum for customer service jargon. As such, the post has racked up an absolutely staggering 443,000 downvotes in the span of a single day, with thousands more voting it down with each passing hour. For context, it's worth noting that the previous record holder for most downvoted comment on Reddit clocked in at a mere 24,333 downvotes - and it happened to be a comment that was explicitly asking Reddit users to click the downvote button. Literally.
Suffice it to say, EA is now unquestionably the company behind the most hated post in Reddit history, and we're willing to bet that it wasn't the record that it hoped it'd be breaking with the release of the first Star Wars game in years. The moral of this story? If you don't have anything nice to say, you probably shouldn't say anything at all - and you definitely shouldn't say it in a Reddit forum.

Yes, You Can Travel to the North Pole - Here’s How!
Dreaming of the ultimate arctic adventure? Look no further than the great North Pole. Contrary to popular belief, this mythical region is more than just the headquarters for the jolly bearded man in the red-and-white suit; it's a mysterious, ever-changing destination that is possible to explore, and one that will deliver the utmost once-in-a-lifetime experience. Sound enticing? We think so, too.
But before you start packing your bags, there are a few things to note. For starters, getting to the very top of the world won't be easy . . . or cheap. The journey will be long, and "cold" doesn't even begin to describe the teeth-chattering weather you'll face. Yet, drawbacks aside, this will be one voyage you'll never forget.
So for those who are feeling extra adventurous and are ready to experience the thrill of polar travel, here's everything you need to know for planning your own trip!
First off, where exactly is the North Pole?
The North Pole is the northernmost point on earth, making it the one spot in the world where the only direction is south. Although this area lies diametrically opposite of the South Pole, unlike its southern counterpart, it is not located on a land mass, but rather covered by a sheet of shifting ice in the middle of the Arctic Ocean. The only reason this region is possible to visit is because the majority of it is frozen.
When is the best time of year to visit?
Just like any other place on earth, the North Pole does have seasons, and the best time to visit is between February and May. This way, you avoid the lack of daylight (read: 24 hours of constant darkness) that takes place during Winter and the risk of dangerous stretches of thin ice that can occur in the summertime.
Rest assured, though, that most North Pole expeditions are conducted during the Spring, when there are very long hours of daylight, if not 24 hours of light.
How cold does it really get?
To put it simply: really cold. During the Winter, the average temperature is minus 40°F. And while there are warmer days in the Summer - July being the warmest month - it is still technically freezing at 32°F. But if it gives you some peace of mind, the South Pole is even colder than the North.
What activities can you partake in while exploring?
Despite the fact that the North Pole is one of the most remote places on the planet, there is actually quite a lot to do here. From helicopter rides and wildlife spotting to warming up in hot springs and running in the "coolest marathon in the world," you certainly won't encounter any boredom.
So, how do you even get there?
Although the North Pole is not exactly a budget-friendly destination, there are several ways you can embark on this arctic adventure. Of course, the easiest way will be joining an already-planned expedition. For instance, Quark Expeditions offers a vast array of cruising options. Whether it be an 11-day cruise on the Spitsbergen Explorer or a short, three-day trip via the Barneo Ice Camp Express, the choice is yours.
Another notable alternative is climbing aboard the icebreaker ship known as 50 Years of Victory through Polar Cruises. In fact, it is even possible to sign up for a polar race - you know, if you're yearning to try something really adventurous. Although, if you go this route, you might want to start training now!

Prepare For Disney's Holiday Popcorn Bucket to Cause Hour-Long Lines
Well, it looks like Disney's sold-out Oogie Boogie Halloween popcorn bucket really was a "nightmare before Christmas," because the newest specialty bucket to cause hour-long lines at the parks is all about the holidays. The Winter popcorn holder started causing hullabaloo on social media its very first day available in the parks, with fans jumping at the chance to buy several at once. Shaped like Pluto the dog, who is sporting both a sly expression and an ugly Christmas sweater, the bucket is available at Walt Disney World parks for just under $14 - and will hopefully be hitting popcorn stands in Disneyland soon.
Considering the absolute mayhem over the Oogie Boogie buckets, it's reasonable to expect even lengthier lines and sold-out signs as more Disney fans learn about this new seasonal popcorn carrier. Pluto is always adorable, but his festive sweater is extra sweet! Check out photos of the sought-after collectible accessory and understandably excited reactions from park-goers, then start planning your trip to pick up a Pluto bucket before they're gone.

You've Been Applying Your Skin Care and Makeup in the Wrong Order
It seems like there's a new beauty invention to add to our routine every week (micellar water, lip primer, what?). And with all those bottles and tubes lining the vanity, we get a little confused about which product goes when. The sequence in which you should apply your skin care and makeup in the morning (or evening) is very important. The right layering technique will ensure you get the maximum efficacy of each product, but it's mostly intuitive. For example, sunscreen should go on after moisturizer for the best protection, and apply eye shadow ahead of foundation so any fallout won't smudge on your face. But when you start inserting facial oils and contouring powders into the mix, it's enough to make a woman's head spin! Don't worry; we're here to save you from these easy-to-make beauty mistakes. Keep reading to get everything in order from skin care to cosmetics for your most flawless face.

Meghan Markle's Nails Already Have the Royal Stamp of Approval
There's a lot of protocol that needs to be followed by members of the royal family, which is set to include Meghan Markle following the announcement of her engagement to Prince Harry. Becoming part of the royal family is a full-time role that comes with plenty of rules, including, allegedly, what color of nail polish is considered acceptable. We recently learned that the Duchess of Cambridge only ever wears a natural nail color, and we also know that Queen Elizabeth II has been wearing the same pale pink Essie natural shade for 29 years!
Now Meghan seems to be following suit, as she was seen showing off her gorgeous engagement ring (which Harry adorably designed himself!) with a manicure that featured a light pink polish and a short nail length. The soft hue let the ring take the spotlight, complementing her skin tone and sophisticated outfit. Take a closer look, and then shop some of your own royal-approved hues.

Michelle Obama Just Perfectly Summed Up the Hypocrisy of the GOP
If anyone is going to expertly shred the current administration without so much as a single mention of our president's name, you can bet that it's going to be Michelle Obama.
Speaking at a Sept. 22 tech conference in Utah, the former first lady answered questions in an hour-long moderated conversation that shed light on her true feelings about the current state of American politics. As initially reported by the Salt Lake City Tribune, Mrs. Obama took the opportunity to address the flaws she sees in the nationalist, "America-first" rhetoric that's played a central role in Donald Trump's rise to power. "We live in a big country and a big world," she said before noting that her husband's White House was one built on hope while the current administration is one built on fear.
Obama also expertly called out the hypocrisy that often surrounds the conservative discourse on health care. "You can't just want to help someone in a hurricane and not make sure they can go to the doctor when they're sick," she said to an audience over 1,000 people. But while it's refreshing to hear Michelle Obama's take on our current political climate, she also made it very clear that she's not interested in a run for office anytime soon. When a member of the crowd shouted out that Obama should run for president, she was quick to shut it down. "That's still shocking. Like, what?" Obama said, adding, "Are you kidding me? No."
Even if Michelle Obama isn't ready to run for president yet, we can only hope that she throws her wit and sass into helping to get one of these highly qualified women into office in 2020.
6 Secrets Real Estate Agents Know About Kitchen Remodels
So you're finally ready to renovate your dated kitchen, but unsure what upgrades will see a return when it comes time to sell. Katharine Tuckerman, a seasoned real estate agent in Manhattan's Upper East Side with Brown Harris Stevens, says that this room can make or break a deal, because buyers know they will "spend all their time in the kitchen!"
First and foremost, "people really lean towards light and bright kitchens," she says. And although there are so many fun opportunities for customization and colors in a remodel, Katharine confirms the adage that "a neutral palate is always a safe call." Of course, it's not quite that simple! While buyers often anticipate "making minor adjustments," some specific design choices have major selling power, or will just make the space "show much better," as Katharine puts it. From countertops and cabinetry to lighting and appliances, she gives us her winning formula for a kitchen renovation that will rock the MLS!

These Stunning Eylure x Vegas Nay Brow Palettes Are Coming to Ulta Soon! (Exclusive)
Beauty influencer Vegas Nay is giving you a chance to take a break from 2017's unicorn-inspired beauty trend. The influencer (who has 7.8m followers!) is expanding her faux eyelashes partnership with Eylure to now include to gorgeous neutral-hued palettes. It feels refreshingly basic - in the best way possible - in a time when other makeup artists and vloggers are outdoing each other with holographic pigments, glitter masks, and oil slick finishes.
The Eylure x Vegas Nay Brow Powder Palette ($20) and Highlighting Palette ($15) have the taupe, brown, and metallic (gold, rose gold, etc.) shades you need to get those bold "Instagram brows" - the kind of sculpted arch Vegas is known to promote.
"It's always fun and exciting when playing with colors and unicorn shades, but I feel those work best when translating through editorial projects," Vegas told POPSUGAR via email. She also noted that she originally choose to focus on brows since they "complete the look" - whether you're creating a "high arched brow, soft natural brow, a realistic brow (using an intensified brush hairlike stroke), or even a dramatized thick brow."
What is so unique about these two palettes is that once Vegas was done, she realized they could both be used beyond just brows.
"My inner artist/stylist influenced the creative process in these palettes," she said. "I decided to add a beautiful maroon color to the range as that truly describes my fun and playful side. In reality, makeup is art, which is made to be fun and exciting to help you find your unique style."
She went on, "When I added the maroon color, I had a wow moment. This color alone intensified and added such exquisite drama to the other colors in the palette. It inspired the idea that these two palettes alone can virtually be used as eye shadows and highlighters. If you were to travel the world, you could effectively create any eye-shadow style - from a soft natural eye-shadow look to the most alluring smoky eyes."
In essence, feel free to go HAM on your eyelids with these palettes. Plus, the highlighters can live all over your face.
"These silky highlighters were initially created to highlight the brow bone and to properly achieve the smooth line under the brow," Vegas explained. "When I started playing around with these sleek finishes, I instantly realized that you can illuminate your face with these striking highlighters, from a soft natural radiance to a beautiful glamorous glow."
And, yes, Vegas was truly hands-on when it came to executing this project. "The best part of this collaboration with Eylure was that I was given full creative control, and together as a close team, we selected the very best quality of textures, pigments, shades and tones," she noted.
Part of that was making sure she had colors for diverse skin tones. "The colors were inspired to cater toward all skin tones, from cool to warm and the lightest to deepest pigments," Vegas said.
Since Vegas is so damn skilled at applying makeup, we had to ask her application tips for using these products. "Work in soft layers and slowly building up to what look you favor," she advised. "For brows, use a precise slanted brush and lightly add soft strokes that mimic those of your natural brow hairs. For more drama, add a deeper pigment on the outer part of the brows. When using the highlighter, use a matte finish for a clean lower brow line and a hint of shimmer on the highest part of the brow bone. You can also use the highlight on the tear duct of textured eyes for an added pop!"
Snag these two palettes when they drop at Ulta online on Dec. 18.

The Shocking Truth About Artificial Christmas Trees
The holidays tend to bring out the thoughtful side in people - but one area where Christmas revelers are struggling to make a mindful decision is what type of tree to buy. Should they go for a reusable artificial tree or a downed natural tree? The answer: unless you plan on using the same artificial tree for at least 10 years, a natural tree is the more eco-friendly option.
Sure, natural trees require a great deal of water, but overall, artificial trees take about eight times more energy to create. This is because . . .
- They're usually manufactured overseas in countries like China where pollution-creating coal energy is prevalent.
- Artificial trees are made of PVC, a petroleum-derived plastic.
- They don't biodegrade, so even if you use the tree for a decade, it will spend the next several decades sitting in a landfill.
- Fuel-guzzling ships are used to transport them to the US market.
That's one heck of a carbon footprint! By contrast, when looking at natural Christmas trees, consider that . . .
- Every one acre of a Christmas tree farm produces enough oxygen to sustain 18 people for a day.
- Christmas tree farms are a natural wildlife habitat, helping to sustain living creatures.
- As a crop, Christmas trees help with soil stability because they are planted in dirt where other crops can't grow.
- Two to three seedlings are planted for every Christmas tree cut down, creating a net gain of forest.
- One farmed tree absorbs more than one ton of CO2 during its lifetime.
- Natural trees will biodegrade, or - better yet - can be recycled into mulch.

Your Sweet Tooth Called - It Wants Beauty Bakerie's "Nude-tella" Lipsticks, STAT
If you're in need of a midday sugar rush, here's something better than candy for ya: Beauty Bakerie just launched new liquid lipsticks. They're not just any 'ol liquid lipsticks, though. The brand responsible for some of Instagram's buzziest beauty products (we're looking at you Lip Whips and Flour Setting powder) just released four new "nude" lip colors that are better than consuming a spoonful of Nutella.
The new Nude-tella lipsticks are opaque, matte AF, long-wearing, waterproof, and (almost) look good enough to eat. You only need one coat of color to achieve a fully covered pout, which'll then dry down to a rich velvet finish. Once the lipsticks are on, they're on, so you won't have to worry about your color smudging throughout the day. You'll be even more enticed when you find out that each lipstick actually smells like Nutella, making them all the more satisfying.
Beauty Bakerie's new lipsticks are available in four neutral shades that are flattering on a variety of complexions from superfair to rich. We especially love that the shades are flattering for brown girls, who are often left out in the "nudes" department. Nudi-tea is a muted light caramel, while Skinny Dip has a bright pink color payoff. Birthday Suit is the quintessential dusty mauve, and Bake it Naked is rich like chocolate.
We went ahead and swatched the new shades so you can get up close with 'em before you buy 'em. The entire box of treats is available now at beautybakerie.com for $60. What's even better is that you're supporting a black and woman-owned business with your purchase. Now, excuse us while we go paint our lips with these new treats.

Let's Talk About "White People Facing the Most Discrimination" and Other Insane Trump Voter Fallacies
It has been more than two years since Donald Trump first descended the escalator at Trump Tower to announce his candidacy for president, but that doesn't mean the majority of Americans are any closer to understanding the mentality of his diehard supporters. In fact, it almost feels like the gap between those voters and the rest of America widens with each passing day. As the president continues to normalize views that any other modern American president would have condemned, he is also, by proxy, empowering his supporters to embrace their fringe beliefs. Those individuals no longer feel that they have to keep up the pretense of civility by meeting accusations with denials and relegating their thoughts to the darkest corners of the internet.
Take, for example, the case of Ravin Gandhi. The Chicago-based CEO - who was born and raised in America and founded the company that he now runs - rescinded his support for Trump in an Aug. 16 op-ed published by CNBC. Gandhi cited the president's handling of the events in Charlottesville, VA, and "tacit" support of white nationalists as the root cause of his decision and was immediately met with an onslaught of hate-filled emails and tweets from Trump supporters. The sad but true reality is that many who choose to speak their mind on the subject of Trump must accept the inevitability of anonymous badgering, but the situation was kicked up a notch when Gandhi received a phone call from a self-avowed Trump supporter while he was at work, one that implored him to "go back to India" and was filled with hate-fueled epithets as well as praise of the president himself. Gandhi released a recording of the phone call to the public, later telling the Chicago Tribune that Trump's leadership on the issue of racism and hate speech is "morally reprehensible."
There has been an exponential spike in incidents like the one that Gandhi recounted in recent months, and that's only taking into consideration the high-profile individuals who have a platform on which to share their stories or events that end in police reports. Unfortunately, as the president continues to pull the "many sides" card, it's unlikely that this type of behavior will once again retreat into the shadows or be banished altogether to the realm of unacceptable behavior.
As indicated by polling released by PPP on Aug. 23, Trump voters are no longer fearful of revealing their markedly false and often astonishingly hateful views. If you're still a skeptic that these sorts of mentalities exist, consider these four findings from the report:
- Thirty-seven percent of all Americans thought African Americans were the most discriminated-against group in America, with eight percent saying Latino Americans, two percent saying Asian Americans, 14 percent saying Native Americans, and 21 percent saying white people. When it comes to strictly Trump voters, though, a staggering 45 percent said it was white people who faced the most discrimination - with 17 percent saying Native Americans, 16 percent saying African Americans, and five percent saying Latino Americans.
- Forty-nine percent of all Americans felt that Muslims were the most discriminated-against group in America, with 29 percent saying Christians and eight percent saying Jews. Compare that against 54 percent of Trump voters saying Christians faced the most discrimination, with 22 percent saying Muslims and 12 percent saying Jews.
- Thirty-nine percent of all Americans support monuments to the Confederacy, and 34 percent oppose them - but 58 percent do agree that they should be relocated and placed within historical context. Seventy-one percent of Trump voters, however, are in favor of keeping them up. A mere 10 percent object to the monuments, but it should be said that the spread places this as one of the most unified issues among Trump supporters to date.
- Fifty-six percent of all Americans would rather have Barack Obama be president, whereas 21 percent would prefer Jefferson Davis - but it's worth mentioning that the percent of people who weren't sure on the answer to that question (23 percent) is higher than the Obama alternative. When it comes to Trump voters, though, 45 percent said Jefferson Davis, with 35 percent saying they weren't sure and a mere 20 percent saying Barack Obama.
Seven months after Trump took office, his base is not wavering. Trump supporters are becoming more forceful and more open about their views, and all polls across the board point to continued support, regardless of what the president does or does not do. But just because the president refuses to condemn this behavior doesn't mean we have to accept it as the status quo. In fact, ignoring the Trump voters - whomever they may be - or compartmentalizing them writ large is the only way that something like that can happen. So it's now imperative that the far larger, far more rational majority continue to combat the inherently un-American views that Trump supporters put forth and remind them that as a country, we don't subscribe to such objectionable views - regardless of what the president may say.
A Depressed J.K. Rowling Asked For Photos of Otters, and Holy Sh*t Did the Internet Deliver
After months - years! - of crazy leaders dominating the news cycle, it's safe to say we're all starting to get pretty damn depressed about the state of politics in 2017. While many of us have just found our happy place in the Reddit forums devoted to adorable animals, on Sept. 25, J.K. Rowling decided that she would no longer suffer alone in silence, taking to Twitter to band the internet together. "I'm so ****ing depressed," Rowling tweeted. "Send otter pictures."
Incompetent clowns in power and the opposition turning into a solipsistic personality cult. I'm so ****ing depressed. Send otter pictures.
- J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) September 25, 2017
As one might expect, Twitter was quickly awash with the most adorable otters that exist on planet Earth. Ahead, we've picked some of the very best (and most cheerful) responses to the legendary author's request - and we only ask that you bookmark some of these to revisit when you, too, have had enough with the news cycle and need cuteness to remind you of all that is good in the world.
Ivanka Trump Gets Real About the Media's "Viciousness," and the Internet Fires Back
Ivanka Trump opened up in an interview on Fox and Friends about what it's been like to work in Washington since her father took office, and the internet couldn't help but roast her. One of the show's cohosts, Brian Kilmeade, asked the first daughter on June 12 how she's been managing to stick to her duties despite the constant media backlash, to which she admitted that it's been pretty difficult.
"There's a level of viciousness that I was not expecting," she said. "I was not expecting the intensity of this experience, but this isn't supposed to be easy." She also went on to further explain how she was "blindsided" by the "distractions" and "ferocity" of Washington DC. You can see her explain it ahead.
"There is a level of viciousness that I was not expecting...but this isn't supposed to be easy." -@IvankaTrump http://pic.twitter.com/viiMQ2ij1d
- FOX & friends (@foxandfriends) June 12, 2017
Of course, people simply couldn't resist calling her out on social media for her comments, specifically the tidbit about the "viciousness" surrounding her father's presidency. Many Twitter users used this as an opportunity to point out that it's not the media that's brutal, but rather President Donald Trump himself.
Viciousness is mocking a disabled reporter, insulting the parents of a dead soldier, impugning an entire religion and attempting to ban them
- Amanda Guinzburg (@Guinz) June 12, 2017
Ivanka's father, @realdonaldtrump, wants to take healthcare away from 24 million people. That's quite vicious.
- VoteVets (@votevets) June 12, 2017
Her father sold "Hillary for Prison" merch in his official campaign shop. https://t.co/PJHdnAEchn
- Matt Compton (@mattcompton) June 12, 2017
It kind of seems like Trump is seeking pity for this so-called "ferocity," but she probably should've thought twice about her word choice in the first place. The internet will always snatch up any opportunity to roast her father's polarizing actions and she'll need to get used it for three and a half more years.
This Homework Assignment Left Students in Tears and a Teacher Suspended - and Will Leave You Speechless
President Donald Trump may have tried to distance himself from his much-derided "many sides" comments in the wake of the deadly events in Charlottesville, VA, but that doesn't mean that he has done any work toward taking it back or repairing the damage that such ill-informed comments inflicted on the country. It should come as no surprise, then, that the sentiment has manifested in some really twisted ways - most recently in a classroom in South Carolina, where students were asked to describe what it felt like being on "both sides" of the KKK after the Civil War.
The homework assignment was given to fifth graders at Oak Pointe Elementary School and posted to Facebook on Sept. 14 by an uncle of one of the students, Tremain Cooper. The two deeply inflammatory prompts were framed as "You are there . . . " followed by, "You are a member of the KKK. Why do you think your treatment of African Americans is justified?" and "You are a freedman. Are you satisfied with your new life? Why or why not?" In his post, Cooper noted that his 10-year-old nephew was brought to tears by the assignment and astutely asked his friends, "HOW CAN SHE ASK A 5TH GRADER TO JUSTIFY THE ACTIONS OF THE KKK???"
After irate parents and family members contacted the school district and local media networks, the teacher was suspended until further notice. In a statement given to local CBS affiliate News19, the school district said, "We took immediate action to investigate once the concerns over the assignment were brought to our attention, and the teacher has been placed on administrative leave as part of our standard personnel investigation procedures."
The statement also addressed why a teacher felt it acceptable to ask her students to answer these questions, saying, "South Carolina standards for 5th grade require lessons on Reconstruction and discriminatory groups including the KKK. We must teach the standard, but we are taking steps to ensure this particular assignment will never be used again in District Five schools."
A predominantly white school, Oak Pointe is now facing calls for more diverse classrooms on both the student and teacher levels. We can only hope that this poor decision made by one individual helps make this school more inclusive in the long run.
Unilever Is Launching a New Drugstore Eco Brand - and It's Going to Help Save the Planet
Real talk: the environment is scary as hell right now. It feels like every month there is a terrifying new natural disaster from the fires to earthquakes and hurricanes. It can leave us feeling pretty helpless and at Mother Nature's mercy.
You've probably heard the idea that every little bit counts when it comes to making the planet more eco-friendly and hopefully combating some of the global warming happening. One way you can do this is via your beauty routine. And Unilever - the parent corporation that creates drugstore products like Dove, Pond's, and Simple - is about to make it easy and affordable for you to do your part. Oh yeah, and you'll smell fantastic and have commercial-ready hair in the process.
This month, drugstores near you will carry a brand-new hair and body line called Love Beauty and Planet. Over a year ago, Unilever put together a dream team of execs and creatives to dream up the ultimate environment-friendly mass beauty line. To make a long story short, Love Beauty and Planet was born. It marks the first time a major corporation has considered every element of the products from the naturally sourced fragrances to recyclable packaging and special rinse-out technology (to shorten your shower time and waste less water). As someone who has "seen it all," I can confirm that this movement feels fresh.
Here's what you need to know about Love Beauty and Planet:
The Products
There are 18 haircare product and eight body products in the offering, all priced between $3 and $9. The range includes everything from detoxifying shampoos to smoothing styling balms and second-day dry shampoos (yes, that is a new category). On the bodycare side, there are creamy body scrubs, cleansing mists, and luxe body washes.
Even though there are six collections, within each family, the offering is not overwhelming. Expect up to about five products in each to deal with your most-important needs - be it frizz or dry skin. Part of being more eco-conscious is pairing down, and we're seeing minimalism as a trend for 2018.
The Fragrances
As an early tester of Love Beauty and Planet, I was genuinely blown away by how elegant and modern the fragrances are. While we all love our drugstore fragrances, they are often too saccharine (like everything labeled "vanilla coconut") or miss the mark when it comes to sexy musk. These scents were all infused, ethically sourced oil or extracts, meaning they offer a much more elevated sensorial experience. I would compare the fragrances to products you'd find at high-end natural boutiques, such as Credo or even Whole Foods, rather than classic mall chains.
There are six fragrance families that include Coconut & Ylang Ylang, Tea Tree & Vetiver, Coconut Water & Mimosa Flower, Argan Oil & Lavender, Shea Butter & Sandalwood, and Murumuru Butter & Rose. The Argan Oil & Lavender is my absolute favorite as it smells like honey and lavender from the South of France. It's not overly pungent (as some lavenders can be), and it immediately calms my mind when I inhale it.
Ingredients for the fragrances were obtained by Givaudan, a fragrance supplier that focuses on responsible sourcing and supporting local farming communities. Basically, these are the perfumery "good guys." Expect ingredients, such as French heirloom lavender, Moroccan mimosa flower, or Bulgarian rose.
The Formula
The coolest factor about the brand is it has special hair-rinsing technology that speeds up the process, with the idea being that if your shower is quicker, you won't use up as much water.
"Many people know that showering requires a lot of water," Matthew Seal, research & development partner for Love Beauty and Planet, told POPSUGAR. "It is not difficult to reduce shower time, but to do so while not sacrificing the benefits you get from conditioner is what makes this technology so revolutionary. Our patent-pending, fast-rinse technology can help you save water, while also delivering all the desired beauty benefits you've come to expect from a conditioner." He also noted that during tests, the new fast-rinse technology for the conditioner reduced rinsing time by up to 20 percent.
"If every person cut just 10 seconds from their shower time, that would save 750ml of water - or one wine bottle!" Seal added.
The Packaging
All of the pretty and colorful labels on the 100 percent recycled plastic are easily removable. If those labels can't be taken off, then a bottle cannot be recycled, so many things that claim to have this property actually don't. Oh, and the caps are made from recycled plastic, too.
