Abby Willard's favorite Disney character of all time is Winnie the Pooh. In fact, on a recent trip to Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom with her boyfriend, Nicholas Marella, Abby said Pooh was the only character she was particularly interested in seeing at the park. On Dec. 14, former President Obama spent time at a Boys & Girls Club in Washington DC, handing out presents and spreading holiday cheer. According to the Washington Post, Obama Claus shook hands and greeted about 50 middle school students at their after-school program. Donning a "cool dad" leather jacket and a festive Santa hat, he's clearly the most stylish Claus we've ever seen.
"There's no better time than the holiday season to reach out and give back to our communities," he wrote on Twitter. Well, based on the video that Obama's communications director posted on Twitter, the children were equally as ecstatic to see him. Take Back Control of Your News Feed With Facebook's New Snooze Feature
There's never been a civil way to handle that twice-removed aunt or former childhood bestie who cannot help themselves from oversharing on Facebook. You know the one I'm talking about, that person who constantly posts photos of the same thing (a pet, a child, their meals) and clogs up your News Feed day after day. The statement that unfriending them would make is just not worth the headache, and honestly, you love to see what they're up to, but you don't want to be inundated with that (pet, child, meal) every time you open up Facebook. Well, as of Dec. 15, we finally have a way to properly filter our News Feeds - all while being completely invisible to those social media offenders who drive us up the wall.
The new feature is called Snooze, and it allows you to hide all posts from any given Facebook friend for 30 guilt-free days. The best part, though, is that you're not actually unfriending or blocking the individual - so while your News Feed gets a little breathing room and you get more visibility on what your other friends are doing, you can always view that person's profile directly and see all of what you're not seeing in your News Feed on your own time. The process is also simple; in the drop-down menu on the top-right corner of any post, click "Snooze" - and voila, you've just taken a much-needed step toward restoring your social media sanity.
Oh, and did we mention that this works for groups and pages as well? If you're tired of hearing about the same old bad news from a website but don't want to permanently kiss it goodbye, it's super easy to just Snooze it, too. In addition to hopefully finding out who the REAL murderer is (we refuse to believe it's Mr. Svenson), the trailer for the remaining episodes hints at a few more complications for our favorite citizens of Riverdale. Jughead runs into some issues while re-entering Riverdale High, and Alice Cooper has an emotional reunion with her long-lost son, Chic.
As you might recall from previous episodes, Alice got pregnant with Betty's older brother when she was still in high school and was basically forced to give him up for adoption. We'll just have to wait until Riverdal returns on Jan. 17 to find out exactly how Alice and Chic's tense interaction goes down.

Do Barre Workouts Actually Help You Lose Weight? Experts Weigh In
If you're shopping around for a new workout to sink your teeth into, you may have heard about - or even tried - barre workouts. Combining elements of Pilates, ballet, and yoga, barre blew up the fitness scene a few years ago, and it still seems to be going strong. But before you dish out a hefty amount of cash for a monthly subscription (it ain't cheap!), you might want to listen up to the information we've gathered about the connection between barre and weight loss.

Although the main purpose of working out isn't necessarily to lose weight, if you're on a weight-loss journey, you want to opt in for workouts that will help you reach your goals in the most efficient way. POPSUGAR spoke to Adrienne Richmond, Pure Barre owner in San Francisco, CA, who said, "Barre workouts do contribute to weight loss because you are breaking down muscle and building strength within every section of class."
The point in a barre class is to "work your muscle to fatigue," and then that muscle "requires energy to rebuild." In order to give your muscles the energy to build back up, Adrienne says your body has to "burn carbohydrates and break down fat stores," which can contribute to weight loss. "The most important thing is not how many calories you burn in class, but about how you are setting your body up to work more efficiently." However, there aren't any studies out there (yet, anyway) showing that barre has this kind of effect on the body long after the class has ended.
Personal trainer Liz Letchford, MS, ATC, agrees that barre workouts certainly have their benefits. "Barre is programmed to maximize the strength of stabilizing muscles and emphasizing balance," she told POPSUGAR. "Is it the quickest or most functional way to meet your body composition goals? Probably not."

If you're only doing barre workouts, you won't "increase your metabolic rate" in the same way that a strength training program is proven to provide, according to Liz. Barre is great, but she highly recommends mixing it up with other forms of fitness, like weight lifting and "a cardiovascular training program - cycling, running, swimming, rowing - to strengthen your heart."
"I would not recommend barre as the main strategy to lose weight," Liz concluded. She says you have nothing to lose by doing these workouts, but don't let them be your only source of fitness if you want to see significant changes in the body. "Just as it is important to eat a variety of foods in your diet, it is important to have a variety of movements in your workouts."
Pure Barre kinesiologist Rachelle Reed says that barre is "important for both weight management and overall quality of life." She told POPSUGAR, "The class is intelligently designed to ensure that each major muscle group is worked until it reaches full fatigue, which helps to strengthen and tone the body." According to Rachelle, you will see results from doing barre regularly for two consecutive months. She says, "Any additional energy expenditure from exercise can help people to manage their weight more effectively. [Barre] workouts also help to keep the metabolism higher throughout the rest of the day."
Since barre workouts are primarily focused on strengthening and lengthening the body, if weight loss is your goal, you should take Liz's advice and also incorporate cardio into your strength training routine, whether it's a brisk walk outside or a cardio-based barre class.
Adrienne adds that "cultivat[ing] a deep mind-body connection" is another huge benefit from barre classes. You'll learn about your body and its mechanics in a way you never did before, and you can take this awareness with you throughout the rest of your life.
Because there aren't any studies proving the effectiveness of barre and its apparent metabolism-boosting properties, we can only take all the information we're given, digest it, and experiment with it for ourselves. If you love barre and the movement and flexibility it offers, keep going to classes! But if you find that you're not reaching your weight loss goals, you might want to add in some other workouts to help you get to where you want to be.

Rihanna Explains Why She Won't Use Transgender Models as a "Convenient Marketing Tool"
Much has been said about the way Fenty Beauty celebrates diversity. One fan, however, questioned Rihanna about one type of representation that seemed to be missing from the brand.
Brazil-based Twitter user @ibertootero messaged the singer to tell her, "Fenty Beauty campaign is awesome, next time you should invite a trans girl to the group." In her response, she brilliantly shed light on a major problem with the beauty industry's idea of diverse casting.
"I've had the pleasure of working with many gifted trans women throughout the years, but I don't go around doing trans castings! Just like I don't do straight non trans women castings! I respect all women, and whether they're trans or not is none of my business!" she said.
"It's personal and some trans women are more comfortable being open about it than others, so I have to respect that as a woman myself!" she continued. "I don't think it's fair that a trans woman, or man, be used as a convenient marketing tool! Too often do I see companies doing this to trans and black women alike! There's always just that one spot in the campaign for the token 'we look mad diverse' girl/guy! It's sad!"

While neither Rihanna nor Fenty Beauty has confirmed or reposted the exchange, there's reason to believe her response was real. Rihanna has a strong relationship with her fans (better known as her "navy"), and she's been known to comment and direct-message back.
If this is true, we have even more reason to praise Rihanna. While representation in all forms of media always matters, she's right about beauty companies jumping on casting black, Muslim, male, and transgender models and making their existence a marketing tool under the guise of empowerment. Diversity isn't a trend. It's a necessity - and it should be the standard.
The fact that Rihanna refuses to participate in being self-congratulatory about casting any one type of person is a testament to her mission of creating a new normal, where people aren't reduced to tokens. Consider it reason number 10,000 we love Fenty Beauty.
