11 Black Nail Polishes That Are Festive Enough For Christmas at Grandma's

We love a good black nail polish - but maybe not for a family dinner. Instead of freaking your mom out with a goth mani, why not meet halfway and sport a dark glitter nail?

The easiest way to turn your Nightmare Before Christmas mani into a G-rated holiday nail art extravaganza is by taking a cue from this season's decorative lights. Whether you choose to add a shimmering topcoat, foil overlay, or sweet pop of an additional color like red or gold, 'tis the season to glitterfy your nails.

Even if you start with the most basic black out there (like Essie's Licorice), you can layer on shine like baubles on a spruce tree. Ahead, find 11 exact polishes we guarantee won't offend anyone at your holiday dinner table.

31 Times Our Dysfunctional Space Boyfriend Adam Driver Made Us Want to Join the Dark Side

After Star Wars: The Last Jedi opened, fans were leaving the theater flustered and a little thirsty. Shirtless Kylo Ren, anyone? But longtime fans of Adam Driver know that he's been a secret hottie for far too long. The actor previously graced our screens with his brooding stare on Lena Dunham's Girls and recently teamed up with Channing Tatum for Logan Lucky. He's considered unconventionally attractive by many, in the "doesn't know he's hot/slightly emo" kind of way, which is exactly why fans love him. If you're still feeling the heat from his powerful performance as Kylo Ren or simply want to reminisce on some of his sexiest (and more shirtless) moments, keep scrolling!

Diet Coke Enthusiast Donald Trump Took the Strangest Sip of Water Ever

Donald Trump reportedly drinks a dozen Diet Cokes every day. I bring this up not because it's obviously an incredibly unhealthy habit but because his love for the soft drink might be hindering his ability to appreciate and enjoy the finest beverage this planet has to offer: water.

On Dec. 18, Trump put forth his national security strategy in a speech at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington DC. Well, all that foreign policy talk must have made the president particularly parched, because he subsequently found himself taking a rather abrupt sip of water during the address.

Now, I know what you're thinking: I'm nitpicking and grasping at yet another excuse to pick on the president, even if this ridiculous excuse is really just a distraction from all the actual issues and wrongdoings taking place in the administration, among both parties, and in the nation at large. To that I say, you're absolutely right.

This isn't the first time Trump has been caught strangely taking a sip, however, and here's why it's actually hilarious: he previously mocked presidential hopeful Marco Rubio for doing the exact same thing. After the senator was roasted for taking an awkward sip of water during his official response to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address, Trump could not get over the viral moment.

On Twitter, Trump at the time advised Rubio to drink water from a glass instead of from a bottle, saying it "would have much less negative impact" - advice that the president clearly shouldn't have given, in retrospect. But it didn't end there: several months after the kerfuffle, he was still thinking about that moment; when asked about his thoughts on Rubio by a Twitter follower, Trump simply said, "Drinks too much water!" Ah, the sweet karmic retribution - it's enough to make you positively dehydrated. Right, Mr. President?

An Improbable Friendship Between a Dog and a Duck Is the Good News Story We All Need Right Now

Sick and tired of only hearing about the bad things going on in the world? We're right there with you - and, thankfully, we've got the cure for exactly what ails you.

Meet the unlikely pair of Max, a 12-year-old Husky, and Quackers, a 4-year-old duck. Against all odds, the two animals - both owned by Patrick and Kirsten Riley - are inseparable best friends, and they're the pride and joy of the teeny-tiny town of Strout, MN. The town boasts a population of just 25 people, so Max and Quackers are well-known to all the residents and can frequently be seen out patrolling their domain. "Sometimes on my way home, I actually hope they're out there because they're just too precious to look at," Strout resident Alisa Godejahn told CBS affiliate WCCO-TV.

In the interview below, the Rileys describe how they adopted Max when he was 5 and he became fast pals with the couple's other dog, Sasha, and after she died, he was left without a friend. "He was without any friends, and Max would sit next to his pen all the time, and I think they just bonded that way," Patrick Riley says, adding, "after we let him out, they just never left each others' side." Kirsten Riley goes on to say that "they sleep together, they eat together, they drink together, they go for walks together down the road . . . everything is together."

The improbable friendship between a dog and a duck provides a poignant reminder that kindness and compassion transcends all that which may traditionally divide us and that it's not impossible to buck tradition and create a bond with someone who may not be exactly the same as you. As such, the pair is often used as a symbol of how to "put aside differences" among the residents of the town in which they reside.

Symbolism aside, it's hard not to have your heart melt at the sight of these delightful animals trotting along in unison. And you can bet that we'll be bookmarking this video of Max and Quackers and be watching it all year long, because it's exactly the kind of thing that we need a little more of in our lives right now.

Twitter Is Roasting Mario Batali For Writing an "Apology" Letter That Includes a Recipe

It would seem that Mario Batali didn't make a very wise decision when he decided to send out an "apology" newsletter to his email subscribers. The chef was fired from his hosting job at ABC's The Chew and stepped down from his restaurant group following sexual misconduct allegations that have now come from eight women, and subscribers of his newsletter were surprised to find a letter in their inboxes over the weekend that at first read like a pretty standard, though not great, apology that acknowledged his troubling actions. The one major problem with the letter? What Mario included at the very bottom following a "PS": a freaking recipe for pizza dough cinnamon rolls.

Batali started the newsletter by writing, "As many of you know, this week there has been some news coverage about some of my past behavior. I have made many mistakes and I am so very sorry that I have disappointed my friends, my family, my fans, and my team. My behavior was wrong and there are no excuses. I take full responsibility." Then he emphasized the fact that he has a lot of fans whose trust he will "work every day to regain," after which he signed the letter "-MB." Instead of leaving it at that, he wrote, "PS. In case you're searching for a holiday-inspired breakfast, these Pizza Dough Cinnamon Rolls are a fan favorite." Then there's a big image of those cinnamon rolls and a "get the recipe" link. It was such a ludicrous and tone-deaf thing to do that it seems fake, but people have confirmed they did receive the email as pictured.

Let's break that down and summarize: "Hi, fans, sorry for the sexual assault. Now, who's hungry for some cinnamon rolls?!" To say that Mario's decision to undercut an important apology with a plug for his own recipe renders it insincere is an understatement, and Twitter is appropriately roasting him for it.

Dear men who are wondering how to construct their own apologies: don't follow Mario Batali's lead!

The Founder of the #MeToo Movement Will Kick Off the Times Square New Year's Eve Countdown

The astronomical rise of the #MeToo movement was one of the most stunning developments of 2017; it broke the silence that lingered in workplaces for decades and empowered women across the country to come together to speak their personal truths. As a result, #MeToo was recognized as the coveted Time Person of the Year, and now, The Times Square Alliance is granting the highest possible honor to the movement's founder, Tarana Burke: she'll be pressing the button that kicks off the countdown for Times Square's annual ball drop.

"I am delighted to be participating in this momentous occasion," Burke said in a press release about the event. "I think it's fitting to honor the Me Too movement as we close a historic year and set our intentions for 2018. With the new year comes new momentum to fuel this work and we won't stop anytime soon."

Last year's ball was released by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, in honor of the work that the UN does on a daily basis and to signify unity and strength. Burke, who founded Just Be Inc. a little over a decade ago to support victims of sexual harassment and assault, initially created Me Too in order to provide victims with a safe haven to share their stories and has been widely credited as the true founder of the movement we know today.

"We are very proud to highlight Tarana Burke and the important movement she began," said Jeff Straus, President of Countdown Entertainment, who hosts the annual event. "As the world joins together to welcome 2018, we are inspired as Tarana will lead our countdown and represent our commitment to continue to stand together and support each other in the upcoming year."

Sorry, Ivanka, but the Tax Bill Isn't a Christmas Gift to Most Americans

As one of the most tumultuous years in American politics teeters to the finish, one final detail on the Hill looms large: the tax vote, a move to yay or nay problematic reform that - if unsuccessful - could lead to a government shutdown.

But the GOP is fairly confident of its odds - or at least that's what First Daughter and Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump wants the American public to keep in mind. Appearing on Fox & Friends on Dec. 18, the young Mrs. Trump explained that the odds are in their favor. "We feel very, very confident," she cooed. "We're gonna deliver historic tax reforms and it's gonna happen before Christmas . . . This is something the people of this country want. They want simplification."

This framing of the upcoming vote as a holiday surprise isn't an Ivanka Trump original but an echo of her father - President Donald Trump - who only days earlier announced that tax cuts would be "one of the great Christmas gifts" for the middle class. Which also happened to be an echo of a November declaration, when the president said that the GOP tax plan would be "a big, beautiful Christmas present."

Semantics aside, it's not really looking like this governmental Secret Santa-ing will indeed be a blessing or a gift, as the plan will supposedly selectively benefit Americans. An analysis of the tax bill defines clear winners and losers, highlighting that it will greatly benefit millionaires, major corporations, private schools, and the Trump family itself while hurting low-income families, individual taxpayers, the elderly, and many more. The majority of Americans are displeased with the plan too, as a CBS News poll found in early December.

But regardless of how uneven and unwelcome the tax bill may be, the vote appears to be facing unique barriers toward success. First, Senator John McCain (R-AZ) will likely miss the vote due to cancer treatments. Second, Senator Thad Cochran (R-MS) is likely to miss the vote due to health issues as well. Finally, a few senators continue to have wavering support, specifically Senator Bob Corker, who has concerns about tax provisions regarding real estate, while Democrats - like Senator Elizabeth Warren - suggest a push on the vote for incoming candidates like Doug Jones to take their seats.

The vote is slated to occur at some point this week but must happen before Friday, the final date government funding has been extended through. If any delays occur, if the tax plan does not pass, or if the post-tax-vote budget is not passed, the government will face a shutdown. So while gifts may be great this time of year, the notion that the tax plan is full of holiday magic is fairly inaccurate - and has many wondering if this present will come with a receipt.

If This Is Meghan Markle's Wedding Dress Designer, It Would Connect Her to Beyoncé Forever

Meghan Markle has had her share of wedding drama, at least on screen. In real life, she confirmed she will wed Prince Harry on May 19, 2018. Now that Meghan has that pretty sparkler on her finger - her engagement ring was designed by Prince Harry himself - our imaginations are running wild thinking about Meghan's future wedding dress.

She'll likely pick a timeless gown like the royal brides before her and perhaps even wear a tiara, too. In fact, Meghan revealed she loved "classic and simple gowns with a modern twist" and that her favorite celebrity wedding dress belonged to none other than Carolyn Bessette Kennedy.

The process for getting Meghan a wedding dress already appears underway. There are rumors that the royal family has reached out to Inbal Dror, an Israeli designer, for a sketch of a potential dress. The designer famously dressed Beyoncé for the Grammys and is known for making racy dresses, though we're sure Meghan's custom gown will adhere to royal guidelines.

Regardless of who she wears on her big day, we know Meghan will look absolutely gorgeous. Read on to see some of our dress predictions, and then see the official photos from Prince Harry and Meghan's engagement announcement.

This Is What the "Meghan Markle Effect" Looks Like For Fashion Brands - and It's Kind of Nuts

We've always known Meghan Markle was a fashion girl, and now, the whole world does too. No one's paying closer attention to the future royal's style than her fans. In fact, the phrase "the Meghan Markle effect" is being used in conjunction with the star. Similar to the "Kate effect" - the idea that anything the duchess wears increases sales and exposure for that brand - Meghan has made her own mark in fashion with the outfits she's worn, from her engagement outfit to the bag she carried during her first royal outing. The pieces sold out almost instantly, and Lyst even slotted her in fourth place as one of the most influential style stars of 2017 (Kate Middleton landed in fifth).

Without a doubt, the "Meghan effect" will skyrocket in 2018 as we approach her wedding day and as Meghan takes on more royal duties as Prince Harry's wife. Until then, read on to see which of Meghan's pieces were popular with fans and then, maybe, add yourself to a shopping wait list or two.

And, if you want more, we dug a little deeper into Meghan's Instagram to gain some more insights to her style, from her swimsuits to her travel outfits. It will be interesting to compare her old outfits to her new ones once she becomes the Duchess of Sussex(!).

5 Products That Will Give You Brows as Bold as Veronica's on Riverdale

Fans of Riverdale have been spending an hour every Wednesday night mesmerized by Veronica Lodge's fierce brows. Just like her stunning and perfectly arched brows, Veronica is the town's queen bee: tough, powerful, and gorgeous.

No matter what Veronica confronts, from her father's secretive ways to the Black Hood terrorizing her town, her dark, thick eyebrows are always front and center, reminding everyone that Veronica knows what she wants - and how to get it.

We'll have to wait to get our weekly dose of Veronica and her brows until season two resumes in 2018, so we're spending our time attempting to replicate Miss Lodge's precise and expressive eyebrows. Who knows? Perhaps they'll help us lure over our own Archie Andrews.

Rihanna Might Have Named One of Her Mattemoiselle Lipsticks After Katy Perry

Rihanna just debuted every single shade in her 14-piece Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle matte lipstick collection. While fawning over the incredible array of rainbow colors, we couldn't help but notice one in particular - the lavender-colored One of the Boyz. It immediately reminded us of Katy Perry, who was once one of Rihanna's closest friends in the industry. Could she have named it after her? Hear us out.

The shade's name, One of the Boyz, is basically identical to the name of Katy Perry's first studio album, "One of the Boys" (and also a name of one of her songs). It's totally believable that Rihanna would name a lipstick after her - after all, the two were once so close Rihanna reportedly threw Katy's bachelorette party and was rumored to have been asked to be maid of honor for her 2010 wedding with Russell Brand.

Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle in One of the Boyz

Tabloids would have you believe the two had a falling-out in 2013, but the love is still clearly there. Ahead of the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, Katy called out MTV for not nominating Rihanna's iconic "Bitch Better Have My Money" video. Meanwhile, at the 2017 Grammy Awards, Rihanna was captured on an audience cam enthusiastically cheering during Katy's performance of "Chained to the Rhythm" (and even shouting "YES, bitch!").

On top of their shared history, Fenty Beauty's One of the Boyz is reminiscent of Katy Perry color-wise. The pop star's been known to wear rainbow hair colors and, in fact, the last time she and Rihanna were publicly photographed together in 2015, she was wearing the lipstick's exact shade for her hair.

Let's compare:

Uncanny! What do you think - did Rihanna name One of the Boyz after Katy?

Wipe Out Whiteheads With These 7 Products

Whiteheads are a skincare frustration shared by many and get their name from the white-hued bump that develops just under the surface of the skin. "[They] are formed when a pore gets blocked," explained Dr. Robyn Gmyrek, a board-certified dermatologist. "Inside the blocked pore, dead skin cells, oil, and bacteria get trapped."

Also called closed comedones, whiteheads are typically small and round in appearance and can sometimes break open and become oozy. Prevention is the optimal goal, and the following products will help keep whiteheads under control.

The Most Effective Dry Shampoo May Be Hiding in Your Makeup Bag

For the record, I would pretty much try any product, DIY miracle remedy, or voodoo ritual under the sun if it meant extending a good hair day an extra day (or three). So, when a close friend let me in on her little secret that It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Loose Powder ($24) - as in the makeup setting powder you likely already have in your beauty bag - was her favorite dry shampoo, I immediately started digging through my collection.

As soon as I came across the unsuspecting powder, I decided to put it through the greasy roots test. Read on to see how a lineup of dry-shampoo junkies, an expert stylist, and even the ladies at It Cosmetics have been using this overachieving powder to freshen their roots - with the before and after photos to prove it.

Purple and Silver Toning Shampoo to Keep That Blond Hair Blond

You might have heard about toning shampoo before, but do you know why blondes need it? Also known as purple shampoo, it helps fight off all those orange and brassy tones that often develop after you've dyed your hair a lighter shade. And unless you're going for the brassy look, people typically want to get rid of it. Because the shampoos are typically purple, blue, and gray, they can help cancel out the warm shades on the hair. Interested in trying one for yourself? Invest in some of these choices.

I Tried the "Grandma Mask," and Holy Sh*t, Look at My Face

While I don't consider myself on the cutting edge of beauty technology, I am a sucker for trendy treatments and new "miracle" ingredients. Thus, when I saw a Korean mask face popping up on my feeds that looked unlike any product I'd ever seen, I had to try it. Hanacure's Multi-Action Treament Mask has been affectionately dubbed "The Grandma Mask" - for good reason. The company promises that, "Within 30 minutes, all major skin concerns are combated revealing a noticeably improved complexion, time after time."

But how? The two-part mask's innovative formula relies heavily on plant extracts (think lotus leaf, green tea, honeysuckle, and peony root) to stimulate blood flow to your face, before attaching to the impurities in your skin and lifting them out of your pores.

Science aside, it's the most bizarre beauty treatment I've ever tried. Here's everything you need to know before you check it out yourself!

The Morphe Holiday Line Is Here, and Just WAIT Until You See the Blinged-Out Brushes

'Tis the season to spend, spend, spend on limited-edition holiday goodies and sets. We won't judge you for making it rain all over Sephora for the sake of having a merry and bright holiday, but just so you know, you can also reap the rewards of luxe beauty under $100.

Don't believe us? Look no further than Morphe's just-released Holiday Collection, which includes perhaps the most extra makeup brushes known to humanity - with a relatively inexpensive price tag.

In fact, aside from the aforementioned bougie bristles, almost everything in this line checks out well under $50. For instance, you can score a metallic gold lipstick (hello, New Year's Eve) for $12 or a 15-pan palette for $15 - yup, that's $1 for every shadow shade.

According to Morphe, this is the cult-favorite brand's biggest holiday collection to date, and much like the perennially sold-out Jaclyn Hill palettes, it also features a popular influencer as the campaign's face. James Charles modeled for all the product imagery.

And even though the brand just hit Ulta shelves for the first time this Fall, the Holiday Collection is only available on Morphe's website or its brick-and-mortar stores. Ahead, find all 18 products in the beyond-glamorous lineup.

There's no doubt that last year had its fair share of steamy moments, but this year was pretty hot thanks to a select number of celebrities. Lea Michele kicked off the new year by baring it all, while Chrissy Teigen unabashedly ditched her bikini to pose nude during her Sports Illustrated press day. And who could forget Ashley Graham's supersexy topless photo? Be sure to have a cool drink nearby, because it's going to get hot in here.
