Wipe Out Whiteheads With These 7 Products
Whiteheads are a skincare frustration shared by many and get their name from the white-hued bump that develops just under the surface of the skin. "[They] are formed when a pore gets blocked," explained Dr. Robyn Gmyrek, a board-certified dermatologist. "Inside the blocked pore, dead skin cells, oil, and bacteria get trapped."
Also called closed comedones, whiteheads are typically small and round in appearance and can sometimes break open and become oozy. Prevention is the optimal goal, and the following products will help keep whiteheads under control.
The Most Effective Dry Shampoo May Be Hiding in Your Makeup Bag
For the record, I would pretty much try any product, DIY miracle remedy, or voodoo ritual under the sun if it meant extending a good hair day an extra day (or three). So, when a close friend let me in on her little secret that It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Loose Powder ($24) - as in the makeup setting powder you likely already have in your beauty bag - was her favorite dry shampoo, I immediately started digging through my collection.
As soon as I came across the unsuspecting powder, I decided to put it through the greasy roots test. Read on to see how a lineup of dry-shampoo junkies, an expert stylist, and even the ladies at It Cosmetics have been using this overachieving powder to freshen their roots - with the before and after photos to prove it.
Purple and Silver Toning Shampoo to Keep That Blond Hair Blond
You might have heard about toning shampoo before, but do you know why blondes need it? Also known as purple shampoo, it helps fight off all those orange and brassy tones that often develop after you've dyed your hair a lighter shade. And unless you're going for the brassy look, people typically want to get rid of it. Because the shampoos are typically purple, blue, and gray, they can help cancel out the warm shades on the hair. Interested in trying one for yourself? Invest in some of these choices.
I Tried the "Grandma Mask," and Holy Sh*t, Look at My Face
While I don't consider myself on the cutting edge of beauty technology, I am a sucker for trendy treatments and new "miracle" ingredients. Thus, when I saw a Korean mask face popping up on my feeds that looked unlike any product I'd ever seen, I had to try it. Hanacure's Multi-Action Treament Mask has been affectionately dubbed "The Grandma Mask" - for good reason. The company promises that, "Within 30 minutes, all major skin concerns are combated revealing a noticeably improved complexion, time after time."
But how? The two-part mask's innovative formula relies heavily on plant extracts (think lotus leaf, green tea, honeysuckle, and peony root) to stimulate blood flow to your face, before attaching to the impurities in your skin and lifting them out of your pores.
Science aside, it's the most bizarre beauty treatment I've ever tried. Here's everything you need to know before you check it out yourself!
The Morphe Holiday Line Is Here, and Just WAIT Until You See the Blinged-Out Brushes
'Tis the season to spend, spend, spend on limited-edition holiday goodies and sets. We won't judge you for making it rain all over Sephora for the sake of having a merry and bright holiday, but just so you know, you can also reap the rewards of luxe beauty under $100.
Don't believe us? Look no further than Morphe's just-released Holiday Collection, which includes perhaps the most extra makeup brushes known to humanity - with a relatively inexpensive price tag.
In fact, aside from the aforementioned bougie bristles, almost everything in this line checks out well under $50. For instance, you can score a metallic gold lipstick (hello, New Year's Eve) for $12 or a 15-pan palette for $15 - yup, that's $1 for every shadow shade.
According to Morphe, this is the cult-favorite brand's biggest holiday collection to date, and much like the perennially sold-out Jaclyn Hill palettes, it also features a popular influencer as the campaign's face. James Charles modeled for all the product imagery.
And even though the brand just hit Ulta shelves for the first time this Fall, the Holiday Collection is only available on Morphe's website or its brick-and-mortar stores. Ahead, find all 18 products in the beyond-glamorous lineup.

This holiday season, you may want to gift your friends and family diamonds, but let's be real: girlfriend's got rent to pay. And while we don't fault anyone for spending money on the ones they love (ICYMI: 'tis the season for that sort of thing), sometimes your bank account prohibits such behavior.

Arielle Has 1.1 Million Instagram Followers - This Is How She Gets Paid to Do Beauty Ads
Yesterday, Arielle Charnas, the blogger behind Something Navy - which has amassed over 1.1 million followers on Instagram - opened up about a taboo topic. Arielle used her Instagram Stories to discuss her fans' questions about sponsored posts. She addressed everything from how she gets paid to when she says no to a deal. It was pretty informative and impressively open. Keep reading to discover what you've always wondered when you see the hashtag #ad.
20+ Updo Tutorials You Might Just Be Able to Master Before the Holidays
Stylists on Instagram have become masters at creating impossible braided updos, twisted chignons, and the kind of detailed updos no mere mortal could ever copy. But, sometimes, they share their tricks in videos, and suddenly the secrets of their success are available to us.

Read on for some of Instagram's finest party hair ideas, then get ready to dance your way into 2018.
Kate and William Reveal an Adorable New Family Portrait Ahead of Christmas
Royal Christmas cards just seem to be getting cuter and cuter. On Monday, shortly after Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall shared their festive portrait on Twitter, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge released a new family photo featuring Prince George and Princess Charlotte. Along with the precious photograph, which was taken earlier this year at Kensington Palace, Kate and William also revealed that Charlotte would be attending nursery school from January 2018. Between the arrival of a new bundle of joy and Prince Harry's wedding, next year will definitely be an exciting time for the royal family!
31 Times Our Dysfunctional Space Boyfriend Adam Driver Made Us Want to Join the Dark Side
After Star Wars: The Last Jedi opened, fans were leaving the theater flustered and a little thirsty. Shirtless Kylo Ren, anyone? But longtime fans of Adam Driver know that he's been a secret hottie for far too long. The actor previously graced our screens with his brooding stare on Lena Dunham's Girls and recently teamed up with Channing Tatum for Logan Lucky. He's considered unconventionally attractive by many, in the "doesn't know he's hot/slightly emo" kind of way, which is exactly why fans love him. If you're still feeling the heat from his powerful performance as Kylo Ren or simply want to reminisce on some of his sexiest (and more shirtless) moments, keep scrolling!
Each and Every Star Baring It All on Instagram This Year
If there's one thing stars love more than dressing up, it's stripping down. There's no doubt that last year had its fair share of steamy moments, but this year was pretty hot thanks to a select number of celebrities. Lea Michele kicked off the new year by baring it all, while Chrissy Teigen unabashedly ditched her bikini to pose nude during her Sports Illustrated press day. And who could forget Ashley Graham's supersexy topless photo? Be sure to have a cool drink nearby, because it's going to get hot in here.
A Revival of The Office Is Reportedly in the Works!
The Office finished its final season in 2013, but a revival is reportedly in the works! The Hollywood Reporter confirms that NBC is interested in bringing back another season of the beloved show, but Steve Carell will not be a part of it. Knowing that The Office continued without its leading man for two full seasons after Carell left at the end of season seven, we have full confidence that this new season will be just as binge-worthy.
There are no further details about when the season will air - or who will be the next Michael Scott - but just knowing that it's coming should be enough for The Office fans to rejoice about! While there are plenty of shows similar to The Office to give you your fix, nothing quite satisfies the craving for a documentary-style office comedy like the original employees of Dunder Mifflin.
All the Sizzling Details We Have About Channing Tatum's New X-Men Film, Gambit
Image Source: Getty / Jason LaVeris
It's been more than three years since Fox first announced a new X-Men spin-off movie. In mid 2014, the studio first revealed plans to tell the story of Remy LeBeau, a superhero better known as Gambit. In the time since the announcement, the project has faced numerous production snags and changed hands multiple times. But now, as we near the end of 2017, it seems the project is finally moving along. Curious to know about the cast, release date, and other pertinent details? Let's go over what we've heard so far.
1. The Star
With the announcement of the project way back in 2017, producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed Channing Tatum as the starring role. "He's a southerner too," Donner said. "He understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans."
2. The Director
Originally, Rupert Wyatt and Doug Liman were attached to the project as directors. Wyatt left the project in October 2015, and Liman exited in Aug. 2016. In the wake of their departures, Gore Verbinski is the latest director to sign up for the film. Verbinski is perhaps best known for directing 2002's The Ring and the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films, so it seems like a gritty New Orleans-based superhero might be right up his alley.

3. The Other Star
According to Variety, Lizzy Caplan is in talks to play the film's female lead. Details pertaining to Caplan's character are reportedly being kept under wraps. It's worth noting that Gambit's big love interest is Rogue, but that particular role has been played by Anna Paquin. Paquin reprised the role in 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past. But, hey, you never know.
4. The Release Date
Unfortunately, we've got quite a ways to go. Gambit is slated for a Valentine's Day release, but we don't mean next year. The film is set to drop on Feb. 14, 2019.
The Pitch Perfect 3 Cast Remixed "Cups" With an Iconic '90s Song, and It's Perfection
Pitch Perfect 3 is exactly one month away from premiering, but for many fans of the Barden Bellas, that's still not soon enough. Fortunately, The Voice just gave the cast the perfect opportunity to flex their vocals with a stunning remix of "Cups" with George Michael's "Freedom! '90." The reality show's top 12 team jumps in for a few riffs, too, making it far beyond aca-awesome.
The Heartbreaking Significance of Those Gold Dice in Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Big spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi below!
At two points in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we get emotional scenes featuring a set of gold dice. They're a heartbreaking nod to the dearly departed Han Solo (Harrison Ford), but if you're having a hard time placing them, you're not alone. Even if you're a diehard fan of the galactic franchise, remembering the last time the dice made an appearance is tough. In fact, they first appeared in A New Hope and haven't been seen much since.
In the 1977 film that kicks off the series, a small pair of gold dice are seen swinging in the cockpit of Han Solo's Millennium Falcon (which you can just make out in the top center of the photo above). It's briefly mentioned that he considers the dice "lucky," which is why he has them hanging in the cockpit as a lucky charm. They seemed to disappear from the movies after that, until they finally reappeared in advance of 2015's The Force Awakens. They can actually be seen in the upper left corner of the Star Wars cover that Annie Leibovitz shot for Vanity Fair in June of that year (ahead). Of the dice, which immediately captured fan attention, Lucasfilm Story Group creative executive Pablo Hidalgo offered a bit more about the canonical origin of Han's lucky charm.
"The story that you would hear if you traveled to cantinas or watering holes around the Star Wars galaxy is that those dice were involved in a game of Corellian Spike - a dice-using version of a card game called sabacc," he explained. "Rumor has it Han won the Millennium Falcon [from Lando Calrissian] with those dice. Whether or not that's just bar talk, I can't say."
Image Source: Annie Leibovitz exclusively for Vanity Fair
In The Last Jedi, the dice are featured much more prominently. Once Rey flies the Millennium Falcon to Luke Skywalker's remote island of Ahch-To, the Jedi ends up covertly sneaking aboard the ship while Chewbacca is busy chowing down on some roasted Porg. It's there that Luke stares down at the dice, clearly moved by thoughts about his late friend.
As the movie draws to an emotional conclusion, we see Luke break out the dice once more when he meets up with his sister, General Leia Organa. As they prepare for a make-or-break battle against Kylo Ren's First Order, Luke places the dice in Leia's hand as a sign of hope and goodwill. The eventual, intense lightsaber duel between Kylo and Luke not long after that scene leaves the latter completely drained of life. It's revealed that he wasn't actually there and instead was projecting his likeness using the Force. As his body disappears, so do the dice he gave to his sister.
While we don't know the whereabouts of the real dice, we can only assume Luke ensured a way for them to be returned to their rightful place: front and center in the Millennium Falcon's cockpit.
13 Can't-Miss Moments From Fox's A Christmas Story Live
After the smashing success of Grease Live! last year, Fox decided to dip back into the Broadway pool on Sunday night with A Christmas Story Live. The festive musical, an adaptation of the 1983 holiday classic A Christmas Story, starred Saturday Night Live alums Maya Rudolph and Ana Gasteyer, as well as Silicon Valley's Chris Diamantopoulos, Matthew Broderick, Jane Krakowski, and newcomer Andy Walken as Ralphie. The talented cast knocked it out of the park, with highlights including "Count on Christmas," "It All Comes Down To Christmas," and "The Genius on Cleveland Street." From the exciting performances to iconic scenes from the film you know and love, take a look at A Christmas Story Live's most memorable moments below.
It Isn't Truly Christmas Until You Listen to DMX's "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" Cover
Back in 2012, DMX gave all of us the best holiday gift ever: a spontaneous remix of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." The song was part of his interview with Power 105.1, and it didn't take long for everyone to obsess over the beloved Christmas song being belted out in the rapper's signature gruff voice. Unfortunately, it was only a minute long, which is why Spotify stepped in to give his hip-hop rendition its slightly longer due.
The new cover is part of Spotify's recently released "Holiday" edition of its Spotify Singles series, which also includes songs by Miley Cyrus, Sam Smith, Demi Lovato, and Kelly Clarkson. Sure, their vocals are all on point, but truly nothing compares to DMX shout-singing, "BUT DO YOU RECALL / THE MOST FAMOUS REINDEER OF ALL?" Listen to it in all of its festive glory below.

Candice Swanepoel showed off her growing baby bump while hanging at the beach on the island of Fernando De Noronha, Brazil, on Friday. The 29-year-old South African native and her longtime partner, Brazilian model Hermann Nicoli, welcomed their son Anacã in October 2016. Minnie Driver Explains Why She Slammed Matt Damon's Disparaging Comments on Sexual Misconduct
Matt Damon is the latest male star to offer his two cents on the recent spate of sexual misconduct allegations in Hollywood, and his disparaging comments were met with lots of eye-rolls - as well as a rebuke from his former girlfriend and costar Minnie Driver.
In a recent interview with ABC News, Matt was asked about the allegations of sexual assault and harassment against movie mogul Harvey Weinstein - whose former company, Miramax, produced many of Matt's movies - and comedian Louis C.K.; he told Peter Travers that those accused are being put into "one big bucket" and that there's a "spectrum of behavior" when it comes to sexual misconduct. "There's a difference between, you know, patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation, right?" he said. "Both of those behaviors need to be confronted and eradicated without question, but they shouldn't be conflated, right?"
Matt also went on to defend Louis C.K., who admitted to masturbating in front of female coworkers without their permission, saying, "That's the sign of somebody who - well, we can work with that. I don't know Louis C.K. I've never met him. I'm a fan of his, but I don't imagine he's going to do those things again. You know what I mean? I imagine the price that he's paid at this point is so beyond anything."
"I honestly think that until we get on the same page, you can't tell a woman about their abuse. A man cannot do that. No one can."
The cringeworthy, completely off-base comments were met with backlash on social media, with Minnie tweeting, "God God, SERIOUSLY?" adding, "There are so many men I love who do NOT frame the differentiation between sexual misconduct assault and rape as an excuse or worse - our problem. Such bollocks." On Sunday, Minnie followed up on her comments in an interview with The Guardian. "I felt I desperately needed to say something. I've realized that most men, good men, the men that I love, there is a cut-off in their ability to understand. They simply cannot understand what abuse is like on a daily level." She went on: "I honestly think that until we get on the same page, you can't tell a woman about their abuse. A man cannot do that. No one can. It is so individual and so personal, it's galling when a powerful man steps up and starts dictating the terms, whether he intends it or not."
Minnie and Matt began dating in 1996 while working together on the Oscar-winning film Good Will Hunting. Their relationship came to an end in a shady way about a year later, as Matt made an appearance on Oprah and denied having a girlfriend. Both he and BFF Ben Affleck have come forward to condemn Harvey Weinstein's actions and claim that they did not know the extent of his behavior towards women.
11 Will & Grace Gifts For All Your Poodles
Will & Grace came back into our lives this year in the form of a reboot, and despite how we normally feel about Hollywood resurrecting a bygone hit, the NBC sitcom has proved to be a welcome escapist delight in a turbulent year. Now with the holidays approaching, you can bring more of that delight to any of your friends who have also rediscovered the hilarious comedy this year!
How Being Selective About the People You Keep Around Is an Important Form of Self-Care
When we think of forms of self-care, ideas like meditation, pampering, and exercise usually come to mind. But one practice that's easily overlooked - which is just as important - is being selective about the people you choose to keep in your life. Whether you realize it or not, the company you surround yourself with can impact you in significant ways. Life's too short for sh*tty friends, anyway, so why not limit your social circles to a solid support system?
Remember, negativity is contagious.
Maybe it's just my INTJ personality type, which favors keeping a small number of meaningful friendships over a large group of acquaintances. But I argue that it should be about quality rather than quantity. Something that's really resonated with me over the past couple years is what a friend told me she does to keep toxic people out of her life. Every now and then, she creates a list with two columns: "People Who Invigorate Me" (left) and "People Who Deplete Me" (right). She categorizes friends, coworkers, acquaintances, and those she's newly met into one of the two sides and cuts ties with anyone on the right. That might sound a bit harsh to some of you, but think about it - why waste your energy and time on people who don't add any value to your life?
Self-care is all about giving yourself the love and attention you deserve, and oftentimes your mental and physical health will benefit as a result. By extending this way of thinking into your friendships, you'll notice a difference in attitude and how you navigate your days. Remember, negativity is contagious. So fill your life with reliable friends who genuinely have your best interests at heart, cheer for your accomplishments like they're their own, and challenge you to be the best version of yourself. Say bye to the drama queen, the person who gets off on others' failures, and any other toxic "friend" you don't need in your life.

Omarosa Sets the Record Straight About Her Firing From the White House on SNL
Omarosa Manigault Newman (played by comedian Leslie Jones) stopped by Saturday Night Live this week to set the record straight after reports emerged that she was fired from her position as the director of communications in the White House's Office of Public Liaison. On Thursday, the real Omarosa, a former star of Celebrity Apprentice, sat down with Good Morning America and insisted she resigned from her role in the White House, which made Leslie's SNL portrayal even more hilarious. "I demand a retraction," Omarosa says during a surprise visit in the Weekend Update segment with Michael Che. "I left that job by choice!" Omarosa goes on to confess, "I deactivated my ID card. I changed the locks on my own office. I escorted myself off the premises . . . and then I threw myself into the bushes." Trust us, the entire skit is as funny as it sounds. Watch it above and prepare to giggle for days.
Minnesota May Be the Happiest State in America - But You'll Get a Whole Lot More Sleep in Colorado
Happiness isn't an easy thing to measure. Millions of things can happen in the blink of an eye, instantly changing a person's outlook from sunshine and rainbows to eternally bleak. It's also often far easier to put forth a placid facade than to deal with the emotional thunderstorm that's going on inside. But on a more universal level, happiness can be measured as the environmental factors that add up to one's day-to-day existence - in other words, where you live can determine a whole lot about how you feel about your life. And while it's one thing to sometimes ponder whether or not you'd be happier living somewhere else, it's often an insurmountable task to pinpoint exactly where it is you'd need to move to change the one thing that's got you down. And that's where WalletHub comes in.
On Sept. 11, the company released 2017's Happiest States of America, a study that uses "the findings of 'happiness' research to determine which environmental factors are linked to a person's overall well-being and satisfaction with life." In order to establish the overall ranking for all 50 states, experts used "28 key metrics, ranging from depression rate to sports participation rate to income growth" to identify just how you would feel on a day-to-day basis in each and every state. While the summary of that data is helpful - spoiler: Minnesota is the happiest state, and West Virginia is the unhappiest - those key metrics provide the most insight into life in each state.
Ahead, you'll find 10 of these metrics, from income growth to divorce rate, and the five states that ranked highest and lowest in each category. You never know . . . you just might find out that you really have been living in the wrong place all along.
Trump's Biggest Problem Isn't the Media - It's Homophones
President Donald Trump often takes to Twitter to broadcast the inner workings of his mind to the women, men, and children of Planet Earth. And sometimes what he types isn't quite what he intends . . . so despite being the leader of the free world, he deletes the tweet and tries again.
But the longer Trump is in the White House and the more pressure that is placed on the former real estate developer and reality TV host, the more these flubs seem to be happening. So much so that it's starting to feel an awful lot like the real thorn in Trump's side isn't the media or the much-decried leaks in his revolving-door White House - it's the grammar school-level concept of the homophone. Defined by Merriam-Webster as "one of two or more words pronounced alike but different in meaning or derivation or spelling (such as the words to, too, and two)," homophones also happen to be the one thing that will never, ever be caught by a standard spellcheck program. As multiple spellings are correct, it wholly falls on the author of a sentence to ensure that the correct spelling is employed . . . and for Trump, that seems to be a bit too much of an ask.
While a mistake of this kind can absolutely be chalked up to human nature when it happens a couple of times, it's an alarming indication of an individual's mental state when it happens on a near-weekly basis. And it's not just homophones, either, or words like "covfefe" or "tapp." It runs over to a "this is how it sounds, so that must be how it's spelled" mindset, one that's solely based on acting on impulse, which is frankly inexplicable for someone who has ready access to the nuclear codes. The most Pavlovian part of the whole thing, though, is the fact that we're talking about someone who came from a public-facing life and has been under scrutiny for years. And yet, in all that time, he has never learned to revise his own thoughts before word-vomiting into the internet.
It's also very telling of a deeper, darker insecurity that drives the president to act in such impetuous ways. And while the Goldwater Rule bars us from having someone with professional psychoanalytical abilities weigh in, these erratic outbursts that aren't kept in check by a self-editing id are enough to make the average individual wonder if an impulsive ego can override the boundaries of the rules our Founding Fathers put forth.
As it stands, though, there isn't much recourse for sending a typo-ridden tweet. The president's behavior warrants close attention, but for now the only thing we can do is point at the tweets and laugh at the most powerful man in the world being baffled by homophones. And while Trump may have removed a lot of the evidence of his aversion to self-editing, the internet is rich with screenshots and analysis that will ensure that gone will never be forgotten. Behold some of our president's greatest (spelling) hits.

The 15 Best Independent Bookstores in the US
When it's time to hit the road for a vacation, there are two things that bookworms know to be true. First of all, you can never pack too many books in your suitcase and carry-on (although those overweight luggage fees are definitely not on our side). The other is that, no matter where we go, it would be straight-up sacrilege to not visit any and all renowned independent bookstores in the vicinity.
With no disrespect to chain bookstores, there's nothing quite as magical as an independent bookstore. Each has its own unique atmosphere, decor, selection, and claim to fame, but they all have one thing in common - when a bookworm steps inside, we immediately know that we could spend an entire day there.
Despite the rise of e-readers, there's no shortage of incredible independent bookstores in America. In fact, some of us (*raises hand*) have even planned trips just so we can visit certain indies. Luckily, many of them are located in popular tourist destinations like New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago. So before you head out on your next trip, check out this list of the 15 best independent bookstores in the country.

4 Ways to Teach Your Kids Gratitude - and Keep Them From Being Spoiled
Many children learn to say "please" and "thank you" at an early age, but truly instilling a sense of appreciation in a child goes beyond teaching words. Dr. Andrea Hussong, clinical psychologist and director of the Center For Developmental Science at the University of North Carolina, studies gratitude research and has spent the past three years directing a project called Raising Grateful Children. The ongoing study has been looking at the different ways to cultivate gratitude in young children.
Dr. Hussong and her team of psychologists held focus groups and lab visits with 100 middle-class families with kids ages 6 to 9. When we asked her why they decided to look at that specific age group, she explained it's during this time that children are able to distinguish the difference between an insincere thank you and a genuine one.
"Kids are learning a lot of things during this time, and some of what they're developing is what we call other-focused emotions, our ability to understand somebody else's perspective," Dr. Hussong told POPSUGAR.
The kids who have been participating in these focus groups are now ages 9 to 12 and continue to visit the lab with their families a few times a year. From what they've gathered so far, Dr. Hussong and her team have identified four ways parents teach gratitude.
- Modeling behavior: How you model gratitude in front of your children, intentionally or not, is something they will pick up on.
- Taking initiative: Through a process called niche selection, you can foster gratitude by choosing the environments your kids hang out in. This can be done by volunteering with them at a homeless shelter or encouraging them to spend time with friends who are respectful.
- Having conversations: Instead of having one sit-down conversation about gratitude, data shows that gratitude is best learned through daily conversations.
- Responding to missed opportunities: The way you react when your child doesn't show gratitude can also influence the process. The goal isn't to correct their behavior but to try to understand how they're reading the situation.
"Often, [parents] will go in and assume the child is not being grateful because they're entitled, but it could be that the child has a different desire in that moment," Dr. Hussong said. "So you may have needed that child to say thank you to Grandma, and maybe at that moment the kid really needed to go tell their friend something, and that was really important to them, and that was why they missed it."
Thinking about the situation from that perspective and then reshaping the conversation to help them understand what's more of a priority can help drive the message further than simply telling them to say thank you.
Though Dr. Hussong is still in the process of gathering data to show how these methods have shaped the participants as preteens, we already know some of the benefits associated with learning gratitude. Dr. Hussong said that being grateful leads to having more empathy and better social skills. And as adults, expressing gratitude can help improve your relationships and even your health.
So, the next time you ask your kid, "What do you say?" after something warrants appreciation, take the extra step to turn it into a learning opportunity!

This Expert Says Couples Should Schedule Weekly Sex
If you're looking for ways to improve your relationship in the new year, a key part to seeing change is making your sex life a priority. Intimacy isn't everything, but it sure is a significant component to keeping any romantic relationship well and alive - especially over time as the heat begins to simmer down. To reintroduce sparks back into your relationship, KY's resident sex expert and relationship therapist Dr. Laura Berman recommends making this relationship resolution in 2018: "committing to a sex date at least once a week."
Now, before you dismiss this idea completely, think about it. How often do you and your partner have sex on a weekly basis, if at all? And how many of those times are initiated with passionate, spontaneous foreplay? If you're happy with your answer, amazing! If not . . . stay with us.
The goal of scheduling weekly sex dates isn't to make sex seem like a chore. What it should do is hold you both accountable, give you two something to look forward to in the week, and ensure that intimacy doesn't slip through the cracks of your busy lives.
If your main thought right now is, Wow, what has my relationship come to?, stop right there. It doesn't necessarily reflect your relationship satisfaction; there are other aspects to a partnership that are equally as important, like friendship. A decline in your sex life is a natural result of time and the end of the honeymoon phase can actually be a positive thing. It just means you've reached a different level of comfort that's representative of a deeper connection.
"We think it's supposed to be like it was in the beginning of the relationship when we were just going down on each other all the time, but that doesn't happen," Dr. Berman told POPSUGAR. "Yet, when you do make it a priority and invest in it, it becomes something really fun and special between the two of you."
In response to Dr. Berman's tip, we asked how to make it seem as least inauthentic as possible.
"Doesn't matter if it's inauthentic," she said. "The idea that it's going to happen authentically and naturally doesn't work for most of us. So, the way that you get over that is by acknowledging that that's something from the movies and not for the 21st-century, busy, overscheduled couples."
"The idea that it's going to happen authentically and naturally doesn't work for most of us."
Once you start making time for sex, it creates an opportunity to get a little more flirty with each other, Dr. Berman said. It'll get you both excited and gives you a chance to get in the mood if you're not feeling particularly horny in the moment. It will also even free up any pressure for the rest of the week and allow the two of you to focus on other forms of sensuality and connection like cuddling or kissing. In fact, according to a study that Dr. Berman did with KY years ago, couples who kiss and cuddle regularly are eight times less likely to be stressed and depressed than couples who don't.
If your libido is down, explore different ways you can turn yourself on. Keep in mind that it shouldn't be your partner's responsibility to make you want to have sex. Bedroom satisfaction requires efforts on both parts, and once each of you take it upon yourself to own that - coupled with a weekly (or daily) sex date - you'll really notice a difference in your sex life.

Satisfy Your Girl Scout Cookie Cravings Year-Round With This New Yogurt!
You can finally feel a little bit better about your decision to have Girl Scout cookies for breakfast, because they now exist in yogurt form! Yoplait has just announced the launch of three new yogurts inspired by the most popular Girl Scout cookie flavors: Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Chocolate, and Caramel Coconut. Instead of devouring a sleeve of cookies in just a day or two, we think we might be excited to reach for these instead.
The new yogurts come in two textures: the Thin Mints and Peanut Butter Chocolate flavors are Yoplait Whips!, meaning they have a fluffy mousse texture. The Caramel Coconut flavor is a Yoplait Original yogurt, so it's more smooth and creamy. The best part is these Girl Scouts-approved yogurts aren't a limited edition - they're here to stay. The three new flavors will hit store shelves starting in December, and all of them are now permanent, year-round additions to the Yoplait lineup. Excuse us while we go stock up to satisfy our cravings until Girl Scout cookie season officially starts!
Should You Ever Discipline Another Person's Kid? Here's the Short Answer
Recently, I've been facing a parenting challenge - and it has nothing to do with my own kids. This school year marks the first time I've ever carpooled, and I've gone all in, sharing driving duties for both of my kids to preschool and the "parents' day out" program; to my daughter's soccer practices and Girl Scout meetings; to school functions and local kid events. For the most part, I absolutely love carpooling, but it has brought on one challenge I didn't expect: it's forced me to become more comfortable disciplining other people's children.
I have absolutely no problem laying down the law with my own kids; in fact, I've found myself in the unasked-for role of our house's main disciplinarian, while my husband somehow got to claim the job of "fun parent." But with the kids' friends and my neighbors' and friends' children, I've always happily given up the toughness and tried to be the silly mom who puts the music up loud and always brings yummy snacks along for the ride.
For the most part, it's been smooth sailing. My kids seem to enjoy seeing this softer, less rigid side of me, and I've formed some bonds with (and gotten some good intel from) the kids I occasionally drive around town. But there's one kid who's a frequent passenger in my car that just can't get his sh*t together enough to let me relax into my laid-back carpool persona.
Every single time I pick him up, he's running into parking lots, throwing things in my car, demanding specific snacks, messing with my lights and windows . . . and inspiring my son to act equally awful (not that my son needs that much persuasion to act awful). All these shenanigans have put me in the uncomfortable position of pulling out all my usual discipline tricks (stern voices, threats, and the occasional raised voice) with a kid who's not my own.
If you find yourself in a similar position, here are some basic rules for disciplining other people's kids that might help.
- Don't go overboard. No matter how out of control the child's behavior is, it's not your job to yell or get physical. Focus on gently pointing out the actions that he needs to correct. Think positive talk, not punishment.
- Set boundaries in advance. If this child is a regular part of your life, it's a good idea to set up some expectations. Sit both your kid and the other child down and go over your rules (i.e., "Stay with me in the parking lot," "Trash doesn't go on the floor," "Sharing is a must").
- Understand that your rules aren't everyone's rules. Every set of parents has different expectations and boundaries, so don't blame another child for not following your rules. Let small infractions (not saying thank you, interrupting) go without mentioning them, and never embarrass another child by disciplining her in front of your child or a larger group.
- Use positive reinforcement. Praising good behavior ("That was so nice of you to share your toy!") is always a good way to get more of it. Also remember to give your own child kudos when they behave nicely, despite the bad behavior of another child, but wait to do it in private.
- Talk to the child's parents . . . carefully. If you're inviting a new child over for a play date or adding someone to your carpool, it's probably a good idea to get some basic ground rules on snacks, screen time, and approved activities from the parents ahead of time. If you're continually dealing with a child's misbehavior on your watch - and you're close to that child's parents - you should mention the issues you're having, but tread lightly. Say, "I'm having a hard time getting him from school to the car without him running away, and I'm worried about his safety. Do you have any tips for getting him through the parking lot in one piece?" Hopefully, the conversation will spark a larger one with their child on their end.
This Over-the-Top Disney Dancer Didn't Come to Play Reindeer Games - They Came to SLEIGH

So Whitney Port Is Literally All of Us When It Comes to Flying With Kids
As a new mom to her adorable 4-and-a-half-month-old son, Sonny, Whitney Port is soaking up all the baby snuggles and sweet moments. But the one thing that will give any new mama a bit of a scare? The thought of flying with an infant for the very first time. POPSUGAR caught up with Whitney to discuss her recent partnership with Tylenol, and she dished out her concerns and tips when it comes to flying with a baby for the first time.
Although Whitney's praying her first six-hour flight to Florida with her son will go off without a hitch, she's preparing for the worst. "My biggest concern is that he'll continue to cry and I won't know how to settle him down. If I had this magic wand to soothe him immediately, I'd be able to write a book and make millions off that," she joked. "Just because you're a mom doesn't mean you know all the ways to help soothe your child, especially on an airplane."
To feel as prepared as possible, Whitney is also considering what to be extra careful about this time of year. "He's starting to teeth and we're right in the middle of cold and flu season," explained Whitney. "One of my best friends just went on a plane trip with her three kids, and they all came back with terrible cases of the flu, so I'm definitely going to be armed with [infant] Tylenol, because if he's in pain or a fever spikes, then at least I have something to help settle him and get us through [the trip]," she said. "I'm also planning on having him suck on something when we take off and when we're landing to help with his ears popping. I think sucking on a bottle or a fruit pop (if your child's old enough) will make them more comfortable. I also actually bought him some baby headphones so he can also listen to his favorite music," she added.
Duly noted, Whitney. Duly noted!
Moms of Tweens: Welcome to the Stinky Years
When your kid's age hits the double digits, magic happens. And by "magic," I mean the type that, like, makes funk grow in Petri dishes during science experiments.
One day you're hugging them and catch an unmistakable whiff of a rancid armpit, and at first you're horrified because you think your own deodorant must have failed you. But just as your mind is racing - you've used the same reliable brand of antiperspirant for years! - an even more horrible realization comes to you: the stank is actually emanating from your previously pleasant-smelling (or, at least, neutral-smelling) child. It's like someone punched you in the gut. Or, you know, in the nose with a big, stinky fist.
It's the not-so-sweet smell of a tween, and it's the harbinger of impending puberty, bringing with it every paranoia you have about the years to come.
Unfortunately, it doesn't stop at the pits, and you start to realize that tweens are inherently gross. They're in a weird spot where they don't fully realize the social impact that walking around like a garbage heap in sneakers could cause, so they don't really care what they look or smell like. In a little while, the allure of the first real crush will make them want to spruce themselves up a smidge, but for now, they just don't see the point.
Their feet, the same adorable little piggies you used to kiss and tickle, are now contained in socks so crusty they could probably walk to the washer themselves (ohhh, if only). Their shoes are the "before" scenario in a Febreze commercial, but you only wish you could go "nose blind."
They'll talk in your general direction, and their words will be delivered on a wave of breath so heinous that you'll wonder if it was just a very articulate-sounding fart. Then you'll realize that you no longer check their toothbrush for usage because you automatically assumed they reached an age where they could be trusted to brush responsibly - but no. Apparently you still need to remind them, using bold threats like, "Your teeth are going to fall right out of your head!" to try to get your point across. (Spoiler alert: it still doesn't work.)
Much to your dismay, you also have to remind them to use actual soap when they shower, because what seems obvious to you (or any showering person) is lost on a tween. Which is why they emerge from the bathroom smelling like a wet dog, with their hair still half-dry, leaving mounds of inexplicably soggy towels in their wake.
Because that's another thing: the slovenly nature of a tween, and all the gag-worthy scents that accompany it, doesn't stop at their personal hygiene.
Because that's another thing: the slovenly nature of a tween, and all the gag-worthy scents that accompany it, doesn't stop at their personal hygiene.
You'll find that their room is a place you visit less and less frequently as it becomes more and more depressing to set foot in. Once a cheerfully decorated haven, maybe with a few toys scattered around the floor on its messiest day, it has now turned into a festering dump. The tween's suddenly ravenous appetite and increased desire for privacy combine to make their bedroom a graveyard for every wrapper and dish they secretly spirit away. (Yes, even if you institute a "no food in the bedroom" rule. Maybe especially then.) It's like the gross-out factor of finding a sippy cup full of curdled milk in the toy box multiplied by a thousand. You'll find cereal bowls with gelatinous mush pooled thickly at the bottom, half-eaten granola bars, hardened bread, blackened banana peels, and enough dirty drinkware to require two trips to the dishwasher. Every drawer and cubbyhole becomes a trash receptacle and yet another reason to shriek, "We'll have rats!" Or roaches. Take your pick.
But there's always a light at the end of the sewer tunnel. You only have to harp on their foul habits for a year or so before they finally realize that, yes, good hygiene is indeed preferable to not giving a damn. Like anything else they've gone through, it's just a phase, and this too shall pass.
Just make sure you don't inhale too deeply until it does.
I Was a 9-Year-Old Babysitter - and There's a Good Reason We Don't Let That Happen Anymore
My 9-year-old is about as responsible as any kid his age. He always does his homework and helps out with his little brother. But he also has to be reminded to feed his turtle every day and that showering involves the use of soap. So would I entrust him with any great responsibility, like taking care of a baby? Probably not.
Yet I was exactly his age - in the fourth grade - the first time I babysat . . . for an infant. By the time I was 12, I was routinely sitting for multiple kids at a time - for babies, still in diapers and taking bottles, and their slightly older siblings, mobile and potty-training and getting into stuff. I thought I was mature back then, of course (and I probably was at least a little more equipped to handle the responsibility than my own fourth grader), but when I think about it now, a part of me is a bit appalled.
Granted, the world was a different place when we were growing up. I can remember freely roaming the mall alone when I was 7 or 8, waiting for my mom to finish getting her hair permed at Regis (and when your mom's hair closely resembles Peg Bundy's, that's a long process). Yet the thought of my kids being let loose on their own in the mall is literally laughable to me. File that one under "I would never." And letting them babysit someone else's children, at least at the age I started, isn't much more likely.
Look, I don't think kids that age are incapable - and if we could guarantee that nothing out of the ordinary would happen during the time they'd be watching another child, they'd probably be fine. But we all know that even in the care of an adult, things can go south pretty quickly. Everybody has a horror story about something their kid has done: cutting their own hair until it's an inch long, coloring all over the couch with a permanent marker, turning poop into finger paint for the wall. (That last one? Yeah. Mine.) And even though it could happen to anyone, we would automatically blame the sitter. That's to say nothing of more serious incidents, like choking or a bad cut or a broken bone. Things happen, but to saddle a young kid with the responsibility of handling any of those things seems not only kind of stupid, but also unfair.
Would I trust my 9-year-old to help entertain a baby in the presence of an adult? Absolutely. He's great with babies. When I was watching my neighbor's 18-month-old a few days ago, I asked him to help me out by keeping an eye on her while I finished up a little bit of work. He did so, dutifully and willingly, making sure she was out of harm's way (and keeping her laughing, to boot). But that was his only responsibility at the moment, and it was a simple one; he wasn't in charge of cutting up her food into small enough bites or changing a poopy diaper or any other more complex caretaking task. I was there to supervise and to take charge if anything serious happened. But to leave him alone - no matter how good he is - is putting an amount of responsibility on him that I'm just not sure he's equipped to handle. And if he mishandled it, heaven forbid, I don't think he's equipped to deal with that aftermath, either.
Maybe when he remembers to, say, flush the toilet with regularity, we'll talk about letting him take on more responsibility in the form of babysitting. But judging by the floaters I'm still constantly finding in the toilet when I go to the bathroom, that's going to be a good long while.
20 Songs From the 2000s That You'll Never Get Over
Music and food are two things that don't fail at bringing together all Latinos. If there's a plate of ceviche or tostones around, we all gather around the table. If there's music pumping through speakers, we all flock to dance, bop our heads, or even fist pump. There's no way a song like Enrique Iglesias's "Heroe" or any Aventura tune will come on the radio without everyone loudly singing every lyric. And though plenty of current songs have this effect on us all, there's no time like the 2000s. See our list of songs from that decade that you can't help but sing along to, then check out these TV shows that bring on all the nostalgia.
