Here's How to Make Multiple Stops in Just 1 Uber Trip
Uber just made our lives even easier, just in time for the official kickoff of the holiday season. On Oct. 26, the ride-sharing app launched a feature called Multiple Destinations, which does exactly what we've all always wanted Uber to do: pick up or drop off multiple people at multiple stops, using just one single ride. No longer do you have to wait for several drivers to arrive before parting ways with your friends at a party, and it makes it even easier to make sure that your significant other or loved one gets to an event on time.
Adding multiple stops in the Uber app is easy. Just tap "where to?" and then click on the plus (+) sign to add the addresses you'd like to stop at on the way to your final destination. The driver is also instantly delivered directions to the next closest stop, removing the insta-headache of trying to explain to a driver how to get to a place that you may or may not have actually tried to drive to before. And the best part? It doesn't even require a commitment. The person who booked the ride can add or delete additional stops at any time throughout the ride, so that means when you get a text from someone who somehow still hasn't left yet, you can instantly swing by and add them to your ride, too.
There are some limitations to Multiple Destinations, but most of them can be accounted for by thinking through your travel plans before starting your ride. First, there is a maximum of three stops per Uber ride, so be sure to take that into consideration while figuring out your ride-sharing plans. Second, there isn't currently a way to map out each rider's cost based on distance, so you'll be splitting the ride equally across everyone you pick up - and if you know that someone in your crew is a stickler, you probably want to have that conversation before you arrive at your destination. And third, the feature is not compatible with UberPOOL, which means that you can't just try and split a more costly ride over the cost of three random people on the way to where you're going.
Multiple Destinations is available in the Uber app now, and for more information on the new feature, head on over to the Uber site.

It's Illegal to Cross America's Second Tallest Bridge For Good Reason (but People Still Do)
Almost 350 feet above the Skokomish River stands the Vance Creek Bridge, the second tallest trestle bridge in the country. There are no guard rails and no safety nets, and the decaying wood of the structure isn't exactly reassuring. Still, the views from the stunning bridge have made it a popular destination for adventurers and Instagrammers alike, and looking at the images, it's easy to see why.
Less than a two-hour drive from Seattle and situated along the Vance Creek Viaduct Trail, the Vance Creek Railway Bridge - which was built in 1929 - spans 422 feet across. It was built originally so trains and timber companies could access Washington's forests but fell into disuse in the 1970s. Though it's on private property - and potentially dangerous considering its age and state of disrepair - hikers flock to the man-made wonder to marvel at both the bridge and the incredible views from it. On a clear day, you can even see Mt. Rainier if you're brave enough to make it to the center.
While undoubtedly breathtaking, it may be better to view the bridge from afar to ensure your safety, and also because in the past, tickets have been given for trespassing.

Ellen DeGeneres Responds to Eric Trump's Conspiracy Theories: "I Don't Have That Kind of Time"
"If you know me at all, you know I don't pay any attention to politics, but unfortunately, politics pays attention to me," Ellen DeGeneres said at the start of a recent taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The comedian and host was referring to Eric Trump's latest tweet about DeGeneres belonging to the deep state because Twitter was suggesting her as a person to follow. Yes, really.
On Jan. 3, Trump shared a screenshot of his Twitter follow suggestions, which included Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and DeGeneres. Along with the screenshot, he added the hashtag #DeepState. Ideated by conspiracy theorists, the deep state is an alleged group of government officials and powerful people who are currently working to delegitimize Donald Trump's presidency.
Shocking... once again, here are the @Twitter "suggestions" of who I should follow. #DeepState http://pic.twitter.com/6XYUS02j34
- Eric Trump (@EricTrump) January 3, 2018
Following the tweet, DeGeneres understandably had a few questions. "First of all, which one is Eric?" she asked, noting, "It's the craziest thing I've seen all week because I saw that movie with the lady having sex with the fish and still this beats that."
To shut down "rumors" once and for all, DeGeneres said, "Eric, I am honored that you think I am powerful enough to be part of a government conspiracy. I am sorry to disappoint you. Even if someone wanted me to be involved, I don't have that kind of time. I have my gay agenda meetings on Mondays. On Wednesday, Beyoncé and I host an Illuminati brunch. Then Portia and I on the weekends are desperately trying to have a baby." Watch her hilarious and incredulous response above.

Noted Antiweed Dude Jeff Sessions Is Coming For Your Legal Marijuana
Marijuana legalization appears to be an entirely net-positive venture. But according to decidedly yesteryear-minded Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the substance needs to be under close watch - and he's rolling back privileges instituted by former President Barack Obama to make his point known.
AP reports that Sessions will rescind Obama's 2013 "Cole Memo" that ensured federal prosecutors not stand in the way of state-level legalization. The memo refocused drug enforcement to more macro-level issues like preventing distribution to minors and ensuring substances don't travel across state lines or to cartels and gangs. Sessions's rollback will enable attorneys nationwide to assess the issue on their own, to handle federal resources however they please in their areas. The hope is to curb drug trafficking and prevent substances from traveling across state lines. The move is widely seen as a means to thwart the expansion of marijuana legalization.
The move is also remarkable as it comes days after California's launch of recreational marijuana on Jan. 1, a notable benchmark as California has the highest population and is the sixth state to legalize the substance. Legalization is expected to bring the state nearly $7 billion by 2025, a figure that will be more than a quarter of national sales of legal marijuana.
Dear Attorney General Jeff Sessions and @TheJusticeDept: Let me give you a list of things more important for federal prosecutors and federal law enforcement to pursue other than marijuana:
1. Basically anything. https://t.co/ctyJui7g4c- Ted Lieu (@tedlieu) January 4, 2018
Sessions's move is entirely unsurprising since his backward views on the progressive issue have long been a staple of his attorney generalship. His rolling back of the Cole Memo comes after simmering efforts in 2017 like devoting a task force to evaluating marijuana enforcement. Word of Sessions's Cole Memo rescinding circulated for some time, sparking debate in November 2017 during a press conference on the opioid crisis where the attorney general focused on how "detrimental" he views marijuana to be.
While the country - and states - awaits to see how the loss of the Cole Memo actually manifests, the matter of how "bad" marijuana is has been debunked many, many times. Most recently, the World Health Organization issued a report that the medical use of CBD - a compound found in marijuana - is entirely safe, posing no health risks. Moreover, repeated studies have revealed that marijuana is largely safer than alcohol. Yet over seven million people were arrested for the drug between 2001 and 2010, a fact that most adversely affects black populations, while it costs the states over $3.6 billion to enforce. Sessions may be hoping to end marijuana legalization to better the nation, but as has been observed countless times, his view on the matter will ultimately stand in the way of national progress as a whole.
If You're Not Extremely Concerned by Trump's North Korea Tweet, You Should Be
By now, we've seen our fair share of shockingly tone-deaf tweets from Donald Trump, but the President's latest social media statements are even more alarming than usual. On Jan. 2, North Korea dictator Kim Jong Un revealed that he has a "nuclear button" on his desk at all times and that the "entire United States is within range" of the country's destructive weapons, NBC reported on Jan. 2. As soon as Trump caught wind of Jong Un's threatening words, he took it upon himself to fire back an extremely childish response - on Twitter, naturally. POTUS tweeted, "Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!"
North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the "Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times." Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!
- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 3, 2018
No, you're not in The Twilight Zone - this is actually a reality. The President of the United States sized up another world leader on the magnitude of his nuclear missile button, just as a toddler does while comparing their toy size with another young child. Sit back and let that sink in for a moment.
Besides the fact that this tweet proves our president is essentially a 4-year-old trapped in a 71-year-old's body (with similarly juvenile capitalization skills), it's also concerning that he's taking such outright jabs at a leader who has weapons of mass destruction at his fingertips. He just turned a gravely serious matter - one that involves the well-being of all Americans - into a joke, and it's frankly appalling. Needless to say, the entire internet took note of Trump's alarming "nuclear button" threat and expressed their concern over his audacity.
yeah lets not play this game

What You Need to Know About 2 Major Computer Flaws That May Be Leaving Your Data at Risk
If there's one thing you hope your computer can do, it's protect your information in a secure, thoughtful way. Unfortunately, a major discovery by technology experts identified new security flaws in nearly all computer processors that make everything from mobile to cloud information vulnerable to hacking.
The two flaws - called Meltdown and Spectre - have enabled hackers to steal sensitive information from computer memory via infected software downloaded to one's device for decades. Meltdown affects computer processing tied to nearly all microprocessors made by Intel and is most notably a problem for cloud networks used by providers like Microsoft, Amazon, and Google. Updates and patches to fix Meltdown are being rolled out and will likely slow systems.
Spectre is a more severe matter and has no easy fix because it relates to the physical design of processors that cannot be easily patched with software. A solution for Spectre likely doesn't exist as it's presumed that a new processor will have to be created to replace the problematic chips. The small positive here is that Spectre is more difficult to exploit. Still, patches and workarounds for the problem will become available until new processors are created.
Apple: yeah we slow down your iPhone
Intel: hold my beer- Tom Latsch (@bobojr2002) January 3, 2018
For those wondering if they are affected by this seemingly abstract problem, the answer is simple: yes, you are likely at risk since Microsoft, Google, Mozilla, Apple, Linux, Firefox, and more appear to be affected by both flaws. Those who should be most concerned are Microsoft and Windows users, but thankfully an emergency patch for these platforms has been released via Windows Update. While fixes for Spectre are largely unknown, Meltdown fixes are becoming available - although they may dock processing up to 30 percent.
If it sounds like computer security is becoming a major issue, that's because it is. As recently as November 2017, Apple's operating system was revealed to have a security flaw that allowed anyone with access to a Mac to override passwords to gain administrator access - not to mention Apple's slowing iPhones because of old batteries. Nearly a month later, hospitals and healthcare industries were revealed to be at great risk of attack, putting the health information of patients out in the open.
Thankfully, the matter isn't being taken lightly. Tech companies are scrambling to fix these problems to save face for neglecting a known issue. Public figures like Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) are pushing for federal regulation of computer security after a hacking attack damaged business in her state. These issues are as big as they seem, so be sure to take this story as a reminder to keep updating and securing devices - or, alternately, make peace with all your information being available to the wider world.
Why This Picture of Doug Jones's Son Glaring at Mike Pence Speaks Volumes
After a dramatic election and repeated protests by Republican opponent Roy Moore, on Jan. 3, Doug Jones was sworn in to the Alabama Senate by Vice President Mike Pence. Though otherwise unremarkable, one photograph from the customary ceremony is now going viral for an incredible reason.
The photograph, shown above, depicts Jones taking the oath of office next to his wife, Louise, and son Carson. Though everyone else in the photograph appears neutral or smiling, Carson seems to be glaring at the vice president. As the moment went viral, many began speculating about the reason for Carson's death stare.
Carson is openly gay and came out during his senior year of high school. The 22-year-old zookeeper told Into that he came out to his parents by writing his feelings in a blog post and then texting the post to his mother. Carson said his parents have "always been really supportive." Following the 2016 election, Carson said, he's felt "really scared and really afraid" for himself and LGBTQ+ people.
As it turns out, the expression toward Pence was entirely purposeful. On Instagram, Carson shared the same exact photograph and added the hashtag #NoCaptionNeeded. Carson's post has since received over 11,000 "likes" and hundreds of comments.

Hot Tip For Travelers: January Is the Best Month to Book Cheap Flights
The way to recover from the stress of holiday travels is to travel more. The best time to book a flight is in January, which actually makes perfect sense. People have just gotten back from holiday vacations; they've spent money on travel and other expenses that occur that time of year, and they've likely also used a good amount of their work vacation days as well. Booking another trip may not be the first thing on many minds due to the postholiday slump - which means potential opportunities for you!
According to travel search engine Skyscanner via PR Newswire, early January is the ideal time of the year to find major travel deals for the first part of 2018, including both domestic and international flights.

Obama Reveals How He Felt at Trump's Inauguration, and It Might Not Be What You Expect
Barack Obama sat down with Prince Harry for an intimate interview that aired on BBC Radio 4 on Dec. 27, and the former president's words of wisdom are making us miss him even more than we already did. Before diving into a round of humorous quick-fire questions, Harry asked Obama to relive January, 20, 2017, the day he passed the White House keys to Donald Trump. "You sat through the inauguration with your game face on, not giving much emotion away - as we all saw. What's going through your mind?" Harry inquired.
Obama, being the truly eloquent gentlemen he is, didn't bash his successor; rather, he focused his recollection of that fateful day on his family. "The first thing that went through my mind was sitting across from Michelle, how thankful I was that she had been my partner through that whole process," he said, before describing her as a "spectacular, funny, warm person." Obama also noted that during Trump's inauguration, he felt grateful to be leaving the Oval Office with his marriage still "intact," adding that Michelle is still his best friend.
That, paired with the fact that his two daughters were in turning into "amazing young women," left the now-former POTUS filled with a sense of accomplishment. "You know, the sense that there was a completion and that we had done the work in a way that preserved our integrity and left us whole and that we hadn't fundamentally changed, I think was a satisfying feeling," he said. "That was mixed with all the work that was still undone and concerns about how the country moves forward," he continued, "but overall there was a serenity there - more than I would have expected." Hug This Soft, Spoonable Sleep Robot at Night to Help You Drift Off Faster
If you have trouble drifting off at night, there's no need to count sheep anymore. Instead, meet your new spooning buddy: Somnox, a soft, huggable robot that helps you fall asleep faster. The bean-shaped bedtime companion expands and contracts as you hold it to guide your breathing, and can even play soothing sounds, from lullabies to white noise.
According to the product's site, "many studies have shown that feeling a breathing rhythm can reduce stress and induce sleep," which is why the creators of Somnox implemented cognitive and breathing techniques in the robot's functions. You can also customize the patterns through the app to help you achieve a meditative state more effortlessly. If you find yourself awake in the middle of the night, your buddy will help you return to sleep mode.
In addition to having a 12-hour battery life after a full charge, Somnox is also machine-wash friendly!
Unfortunately, Somnox is currently under development and only available for preorder on its Kickstarter page. But if you pledge $527 or more, you will receive your very own Somnox by July 2018. In the meantime, check out the video below to see just how the sleep robot works!
A Surgeon Found 17 Contact Lenses in a Patient's Eye - Then Things Got Worse
A 67-year-old patient was about to undergo cataract surgery when her surgeon discovered a "blueish mass" in her eye. As the surgeon and her colleagues injected anesthesia into the patient's eye, they removed the object - only to find that it was actually a clump of 17 contact lenses stuck together. As they inspected further, they were surprised to find an additional 10 contact lenses in the woman's eye.
The shocking discovery occurred last year; however, UK-based ophthalmologist Rupal Morjaria is now going public with the story in the hopes that it will encourage people to be more diligent about their eye care. In an interview with Optometry Today, Morjaria said, "None of us have ever seen this before. We were really surprised that the patient didn't notice it because it would cause quite a lot of irritation while it was sitting there."
Due to the possible presence of bacteria in the eye, the patient would have been at risk of serious and permanent eye damage if they would have proceeded with the surgery. As a result, the procedure was postponed. Upon speaking with her afterwards, Morjaria learned that the patient had been wearing monthly disposable lenses for 35 years and apparently didn't realize she was inserting new contacts over old ones that had not been removed.
When the patient heard the news, she was "shocked." Morjaria said, "When she was seen two weeks after I removed the lenses, she said her eyes felt a lot more comfortable. She thought her previous discomfort was just part of old age and dry eye."
Though this particular incident is rare and scary, the team at Solihull Hospital hopes it will encourage people to maintain regular optometrist appointments, which would have allowed a doctor to catch a problem like this before it became so severe. Contact lenses are incredibly common and fairly easy to use, but accidents happen.

14 Movies That Will Probably Make You Cry in 2018
Generally, there are two types of sad movies. First, there are the cathartic tearjerkers that leave us with a vague sense of hope even after depleting our tear ducts. Then, there are the quietly tragic films that haunt us with their depictions of human pain, but ultimately make us think about the world around us. This year in cinema, we'll get a dose of star-crossed love, family tragedies, and loss. Brace yourself to feel all your feelings - we've rounded up a diverse list of 2018's saddest movies, which range from romances like Every Day to dramas like What They Had.
Yes, That's a Different Actress Playing Zoey's New BFF on Grown-ish
If you're a Black-ish fan, chances are you were super excited to tune in to the debut of its spinoff, Grown-ish, on Freeform on Jan. 3, as it sends Dre and Bow's eldest child, Zoey, off to college. But if you were left scratching your head about Zoey's new BFF, Nomi, don't worry - here's why she looked a little different than in the spinoff episode from season three.
When producers are planning a spinoff series, they'll oftentimes employ the use of a "backdoor pilot," which means they introduce the spinoff in an episode of the main show in the season prior to when the spinoff is going to launch. In Grown-ish's case, this was the episode titled "Liberal Arts," where a pre-frosh Zoey visits the California University campus and meets a few of the people who are going to be part of her spinoff world.
One of those people is Miriam, played in the backdoor pilot by Mallory Sparks. She's a white Jewish freshman who isn't great at picking up on social cues and is proud of the fact that she has had a few sexual experiences with black guys. She is established as Zoey's potential new best friend in the backdoor pilot, but is nowhere to be seen in the first two episodes of Grown-ish. Instead, Zoey meets Nomi, a white Jewish freshman who hasn't yet come out to her family as bisexual.
It's not that unusual for a show to recast a role or two between making the pilot and premiering the series, but this one maybe could have been explained a little better, though maybe the writers are banking on nobody remembering Miriam enough for it to make a difference. Either way, if you like Nomi, you should definitely check out actress Emily Arlook's other projects from before Grown-ish.
The 27-year-old Los Angeles native appeared in a couple rom-coms - Just Add Water and Valentine's Day - before landing a recurring role on Lisa Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky's web comedy Sh*tty Boyfriends. From there, she went on to appear on MTV's comedy Mary + Jane, Amazon's drama Hand of God, and NBC's hit The Good Place.
But if Grown-ish takes off, it could be a breakout role for Arlook!
Lucy Hale's New Horror Movie Will Make You Swear Off Playing Truth or Dare Forever
Blumhouse, the studio that brought you everything from Insidious to Happy Death Day, is back with a new horror flick: Truth or Dare. After being tricked into a disturbing round of the question-and-answer game by a date in Mexico, a college student (Lucy Hale) begins noticing that she and her friends are being plagued by a malevolent supernatural presence. The horrifying trailer features lines like "We're not playing the game, it's playing us," as well as some SERIOUSLY messed up smiles (watch it above to see what I mean). The movie also stars Tyler Posey, Sam Lerner, and Landon Liboiron and will hit theaters in April 2018.
The 19 Best Romantic Comedies You Can Watch on Netflix Right Now
Netflix has a refreshed batch of movies every month, but to be honest, we're always looking for a good old romantic comedy to stream. Nothing pairs better with a fine red on a Friday night). There are some good-looking new romantic comedies coming out in 2018 (which will hopefully live up to the ones of 2017), but if you want to watch something in the privacy of your own home, Netflix is here for you. 15 Classic Films Turning the Big 5-0 This Year
There are a lot of big movie anniversaries in 2018: Can't Hardly Wait turns 20, Die Hard turns 30, and Animal House hits the big 4-0. But what about movies turning 50?
Have you seen these classics from 1968? They run the gamut from Barbra Streisand's first Oscar and Katharine Hepburn's third to genre staples like Night of the Living Dead, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Once Upon a Time in the West. And look for Steve McQueen in the gallery, twice. He was quite the hunk back in the day.
15 Shiny New Shows Coming to Netflix in 2018
Netflix is making new TV series and movies at a blistering rate, with dozens of original programs currently airing, and having announced back in October that the streaming service is going to release 80 original movies in 2018.
So what shows are going to the next Stranger Things or Orange Is the New Black? Maybe it's one of these 15 new shows coming to Netflix this year.
There's a sci-fi offering set so far in the future that human consciousness is now downloadable; there's a new anthology series that sounds a lot like American Crime (and even has Regina King as one of its stars); and there's a reboot of the 1960s series Lost in Space, which sounds funny on its face, but boasts an impressive pedigree with stars Toby Stephens, Molly Parker and Parker Posey.

Liam Payne and Rita Ora's New Song From Fifty Shades Freed Will Be Stuck in Your Head All Day
We did this #ForYou! Had so much fun in the studio with @RitaOra. Our new single from the #FiftyShadesFreed soundtrack drops this Friday January 5. http://pic.twitter.com/rT9K44F9gp
- Liam (@LiamPayne) January 3, 2018
Who knew Liam Payne and Rita Ora would sound this freakin' good together? On Thursday, the duo teased their upcoming duet "For You" from the Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack, and it's catchy as hell. In the behind-the-scenes footage shared on Twitter, Rita and Liam are seen playing around in the studio while recording their love song. And if the 18-second snippet is any indication, we're in for a treat when the full song arrives on Jan. 5.
Liam, of course, isn't the first member from One Direction to sing for the franchise's soundtrack. Last year, Zayn Malik teamed up with Taylor Swift for a sexy duet, which hit No. 2 on the Billboard charts. Watch the teaser for Liam and Rita's earworm offering above.
I'm Reading a Book Per Week in 2018, and This Is How I'm Sticking to It
I'm not typically one for New Year's resolutions, but as a former bookworm who has fallen away from my favorite hobby more than I'd like to admit, I knew heading into 2018 that I would strive to read a book per week in the new year. Because I'm a fast reader, time has never been my issue - it has always been a lack of motivation that got in the way of my book consumption. How do I keep from getting distracted while reading? How do I find new, interesting books to read so I'm not always falling back on old favorites? (Though there's nothing wrong with a good Harry Potter reread every once in a while!)
Shortly before 2017 ended, I began doing three things to change my reading habits and help me stick to my goals. Of course, everybody has their own reading habits; my "tricks" may not be applicable or even possible for others aiming to read more. Read on to see what works for me, then follow along with our 2018 reading challenge to find more inspiration in the new year!
1. I carve out specific time for reading outside of my home.
In the past, it's been a struggle for me to commit to reading because I felt lazy; when I'd sit down on the couch with a book, I'd somehow notice dishes that needed to be washed, or my dogs would beg to go on a walk. Heck, I would sometimes end up answering work emails instead of diving into the book I'd been planning to read! It took a long time for me to realize that I didn't lose my love of reading - it's just that my own home is a distraction. So to accomplish my resolution to read more, I've begun setting aside specific time to leave the house and read somewhere with nothing to distract my attention.
Now, my fiancé and I have a routine. When he leaves to go to the office on the weekends (he works a nontraditional schedule), he drops me off at a coffee shop, pub, or book shop somewhere near our apartment. With this setup, I spend at least an hour during every weekend day diving into whatever book is on my to-read list, with the coziness of a warm drink in hand and without distractions from around the house.
2. I have new books delivered monthly to treat reading like a gift.

To me, there's nothing quite as magical as receiving goodies in the mail. Every time the post comes, I'm like a kid on Christmas morning, tearing into packages to see what's inside. (Usually it's something boring, like laundry pods I forgot I ordered via Alexa, but the excitement is still there.) I've learned to use this love of mail to fuel my reading resolution.
With book-themed subscription boxes, I receive at least one new book to read every month . . . along with other goodies! My personal favorite is the Cozy Reader Club box ($65 per month, pictured above) because of its unique book picks and hygge-friendly contents like tea, candles, and cozy knitwear, but there are more affordable options like Bookcase.Club ($10 per month) that have the same surprise gift feeling.
3. I've found unique ways to get personal reading recommendations.
Over the holidays, two of my dear friends hosted a nontraditional "white elephant" gift exchange. Instead of every guest bringing a silly present to throw into the mix, every participant brought one of their favorite books (wrapped anonymously) to exchange. It ended up being one of my favorite holiday parties ever, and now I plan to incorporate a book exchange element into as many social scenarios as I can.
For my bridal shower, for example, I'm asking guests for a copy of their favorite book with a note written inside rather than a gift from my registry. Hopefully I'll walk away with a massive arsenal of books to read over the next year, all from trusted sources whom I love.
The Bachelor: Who Went Home and Who Is Still in the Running For the Final Rose
It's a new year, and that means a fresh new season of The Bachelor. After getting his heart broken by Emily Maynard many seasons ago, former Bachelorette contestant Arie Luyendyk Jr. is looking for love yet again. Now that season 22 has officially kicked into high gear (Get it? Because he's a race car driver), let's see which ladies are still competing for the final rose and Luyendyk's heart. Be sure to check back each week to see who was eliminated.
Mom, I'm Sorry It Took So Long, but I Finally Get It
Dear Mom,
When I was a kid, you did a lot of things that I found strange. You woke up before all of us so that you could "drink your coffee in peace." When we went shopping for clothes, you immediately headed for the back of the store, because "everything in the front is more expensive." Every time the tornado sirens went off, you put on all your good jewelry before we headed to the basement, because you wanted to "look like Liberace when the newsman shows up," just in case the storm hit. As a kid, I didn't get it, but today, I feel like I am turning into you.
I'm sorry that it never occurred to me in my own little self-centered world that I was the center of yours.
Just like you had your chocolate bars stashed in the nightstand, I have figured out that in order to enjoy my trashy magazine and sweet snack, I have to sit on the bathroom floor in hiding. You used to like to go to the grocery store by yourself so that you could enjoy Michael Bolton and Jon Secada uninterrupted. Now, the second my kids are out of my minivan, I roll the windows down and turn up the '90s rap music. I distinctly remember the overwhelmed look on your face when you would read newsletters about upcoming projects at school. Today, I feel like I might throw up the second I find a five-page book report form hiding in someone's folder. I totally get how you lost one of us at that fancy restaurant only to find him under the table buttering people's shoes. I once pushed a stroller at the zoo for five minutes unaware that my son had gotten out to look at the tigers.
Being a mom is hard.
Motherhood is especially difficult when you can't find time to have one minute alone. Moms are never truly alone. Not in the car, not in the bathroom, not even in your own thoughts. The need for five minutes to yourself is real, and I'm sorry that I never understood that. I'm sorry I took for granted that every time you took a breath, you were thinking of me. That each night when you went to sleep, I was the last thought on your mind and your first when you woke up. I'm sorry that it never occurred to me in my own little self-centered world that I was the center of yours. And even though your children were your everything, you needed a break.
I wish I knew then what I know now. I wouldn't have laughed when you dropped the cookies straight from the oven because you burned your hand. I would never have talked back if I had known it was breaking your heart. I wouldn't have caused so much trouble with my brothers so there were fewer fights for you to break up. But more than anything, when you asked for one hour a week to watch Thirtysomething in peace, I would have left you alone. Even though you needed that time for your sanity, all it took was one cry from the other room to disrupt the moment and you were back in action. That's what moms do. We heal and we help and we show up, even when we don't want to. And you always showed up.
As a mother, I'm empathetic to the day-to-day struggles you went through and in awe of the fact that you raised four children without an iPad. As a daughter, I'm thankful. For all the sacrifices you made (no matter how small), I'm humbled. And for all those times when I should have just given you five minutes, I'm sorry. There are days when I struggle, when I think I just can't take anymore, and just as I did as a kid, I still turn to you. Even when I'm at my worst, I know that when you hold me in your arms and dry my tears, I'll never be alone. And on those days when I've hit my limit and show up at your house with my four children in tow, neither will you.
Thank you.
Love,
Your Daughter

10 Experience Gifts For Kids That Will Let Them Explore This Big and Beautiful World
Shopping for kids can be . . . rough. While some kids tell you exactly what they want, that coveted toy may be hard to get or just a little too much money. Other kids want everything, and choosing the perfect gift is daunting. Will they want to play with this? Do they have this already? What size clothing should I get? Will they even care about clothes?
My internet search history is full of gift ideas, but over the years, I've found that most of my friends don't have space for more things, and their kids don't play with half the stuff they own already. Instead, I decided to start giving "experience gifts," and I'm never going back! Give the little ones in your life memories that they'll remember for a long time instead of a toy that will probably sit on a shelf somewhere. And an added bonus? You can get in on the fun with them a lot of the time! Keep reading for 10 fun and creative experience gift ideas everyone will love.
7 Signs Your Kid Is an Awesome, Alone-Time-Loving Introvert
Every child is born with their own unique personalities, and as parents, we have the best job of watching them grow, develop, and, well, say some of the weirdest and funniest things imaginable. But different personalities require different types of nurturing, and if you have an introvert on your hands, navigating that path can be a bit more complicated. In a world where extroverts outnumber introverts almost three to one, it can be a challenge to parent a child who doesn't thrive on social interaction and engagement.
We often mistake shyness with truly being an introvert and think it's our job as parents to "fix" that shyness, but the two are not the same. While the shy child may need help coming out of their shell, the true introvert won't thrive on being drawn out and will instead struggle more with the added pressure and socialization. Introverts recharge by being alone, unlike their extroverted peers, who gain energy from being around others. Shy children and introverts both might avoid social situations, but the introvert does so by choice, while the shy child makes the decision out of fear.
Wondering if your child is an introvert? First of all, don't be alarmed. The trait comes with some awesome strengths. However, it also requires some specific parenting strategies. Here are seven things to look for if you're trying to determine if your child is an introvert.
- They avoid eye contact and interacting with others, especially new people. Because meeting new people can be draining to an introvert, they might avoid engaging at all. Know that the behavior doesn't come from a place of rudeness, but instead your introverted child is just trying to protect themselves from the intimidation and embarrassment they often feel when meeting strangers or interacting with people they don't know well.
- They throw tantrums or are generally upset after a busy day. A day spent running errands, at a party, or at school can feel extremely draining to an introverted child, and they might act out because of it. If you know you're going to have an extended period of time that involves a lot of social interaction, be sure to schedule some quiet, alone time for your child before and afterward.
- You find them talking to themselves or favorite toys more than other children. Introverts tend to be quieter than their extroverted peers, preferring to process the world internally. Don't be surprised if you often find your child having a conversation with themselves or a favorite stuffed animal. Having private time to unpack their feelings and experiences is necessary for them.
- They prefer playing alone than with other children. Enjoying solo play is a hallmark of the introverted child, who would rather use their imagination and play alone than interact with other children, especially in large groups or when those children aren't well-known to them.
- They stick to a few trusted friends. Introverts need friends, too; they just prefer to stick to a few close confidants rather than collecting a gaggle of buddies. Helping them form deep bonds with those friends they do trust and enjoy spending time with is important as a parent.
- They're reluctant to try new things. Because new experiences usually involve interacting with new people and places, introverted children may not be keen on saying yes to any new undertaking, instead preferring to stick to situations they know and feel more comfortable with.
- They have trouble expressing their emotions. Introverts are hardwired to process their emotions internally, so talking about them with anyone else - even a parent - can be difficult. Don't push the matter, but instead give your child time to think, process, and come to you when they're ready, while still letting them know that you're always there to provide any love and support they need.
Giphy's Top 25 GIFs of 2017
When it comes to GIFs, there is no more definitive source than Giphy. It's for that very reason that it's one of my most-visited websites, and for many, it's the definitive source for finding the perfect image to say what words just couldn't possibly express. It should come as no surprise, then, that 300 million web users share over two billion GIFs every single day - and those numbers say a whole hell of a lot about the emotional state of the world at any given time.
This year, Giphy added a much-needed view counter, which allowed the platform to display just how viral a GIF had truly gone - and, of course, to pull together the most-viewed GIFs of the year for one hell of a yearly wrap-up. Ahead, check out our countdown of the top 25 GIFs on the Giphy platform in 2017. From Nicole Kidman clapping to that white guy blinking, it's all here, and it's the best way to look back at the year that was 2017.
