Millie Bobby Brown's Hair at the Globes Is Business in the Front, Party in the Back
Millie Bobby Brown may not have arrived at the 2018 Golden Globes with her Stranger Things costars, but the 13-year-old actress absolutely made a statement. Upon first glance, Millie's stunning silk Calvin Klein dress paired perfectly with a sleek topknot, but it wasn't until she turned around that we saw how truly fierce the young star is. With three reverse french braids spiraling around her bun, celebrity hairstylist Blake Erik made sure all eyes were on Millie the second she turned around.
Her look was just as noteworthy from the front, with a sharp eyeliner as the focus. Makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan used Avon True Color Glimmersticks Eyeliner in Blackest Black. She ensured Millie's skin stayed hydrated all night with Kiehl's Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate and Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. Kelsey took full advantage of the actress's naturally rosy lips, simply using the classic Kiehl's Butterstick Lip Treatment for major hydration. 40 Times Oprah Winfrey Proved She Is a Gosh Darn Beauty Icon
We're positively screaming over the fact that television legend and beauty inspiration Oprah Winfrey won the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards. Often referred to as "The Most Influential Woman in the World," Winfrey has inarguably been a style maven since her namesake daytime talk show debuted 31 years ago.
Her signature look often involves a few go-to products (she's been rocking a bold lip like it's her job since before many of us were born), but she's also keen to switch things up. Case in point is her hair: she sometimes wears her natural curls, but she has also been seen repping a TV host blowout and straight bob with equal grace. No matter her hair or makeup, Oprah is always sure to wear a smile, which completes her gloriously inspirational red carpet looks.
Read on for 40 pictures of Oprah looking like #beautygoals. We promise it will make you happier than finding the keys to a free car under your seat.
Chris Sullivan Wore Black Nail Polish on the Red Carpet, Because He's F*cking Fabulous
As women at the Golden Globes wore all-black dresses to protest sexual harassment, many male allies also repped Time's Up pins in solidarity. Chris Sullivan took the movement one step further by rocking black nail polish on the Beverly Hilton red carpet.
You probably know Sullivan from his work as Benny on Stranger Things or Toby on This Is Us. You might also know him for his fabulous red carpet sartorial statements. In fact, this isn't the first time Sullivan has been unconventional in his style choices: he wore a top hat and purple bow tie to the 2017 Emmy Awards.
Trust Us: You'll Want to See Katherine Langford's Golden Globes Hair From Behind
Butterfly hair clips may have reigned supreme back in the '90s, but Katherine Langford just found a modern spin on the trend that we can't wait to copy. The 13 Reasons Why actress attended the 2018 Golden Globes wearing the prettiest star-shaped hair pins to hold back her side-swept curls from behind. But she didn't wear just two or three star hair pins - she practically had a whole constellation of various sizes fastened to her locks.
The sparkly silver hair accessories perfectly matched her earrings and the rhinestone detailing on her black dress, which she donned to stand in solidarity with the mission of anti-sexual harassment group Time's Up. Katherine completed her out-of-this-galaxy Golden Globes look with a subtly shiny smoky eye, pink lipstick, and rosy blush on her cheeks.
Ahead, see Katherine's dreamy hairstyle from all angles, then shop her exact hair pins and other similarly chic styles.
Emma Watson Brought Her Brand-New Baby Bangs to the 2018 Golden Globes
Emma Watson first caught our attention on the Golden Globes red carpet for bringing activist Marai Larasi as her date, both of them in black to support the women's protest against harassment in Hollywood. We fist pumped. (Yeah, women!) And then noticed - she also has new bangs!
Not only did she get a fringe, but she got a really, really short one. Her bangs hit around the middle of her forehead and were worn swept over to the side. She rocked her hair back with some effortlessly chic wisps around her face. This style works for Emma, because it doesn't compete with her bold, brushed-up eyebrows. The rest of her makeup was simple, except for a classic matte, red lip.
So, do you love Emma's new haircut?

This Math Problem Will Make You Question Everything You Ever Knew About Algebra
Math isn't everyone's best skill - and even those who are good at it are questioning everything after trying this algebra problem.
The question originally went viral in Japan, after a study discovered that only 60 percent of 20-somethings could actually solve it. Are you already feeling frustrated and hopeless at trying to know what the answer is? Watch the video below, posted by YouTube user MindYourDecisions, a popular math puzzle channel. In it, Presh Talwalkar, the mastermind behind this question, will guide you to the right answer.
As you can see, not even a calculator can help you, as it will read the problem wrong and arrive at the answer of 9. To solve it correctly in a calculator, you need to write it out like this: 9-3/(1/3) + 1, which will lead you to 1 as the correct answer. The problem tests your knowledge of PEMDAS, the order of operations formula, which says you must get to the answer by following these steps in this order: parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction. In this question, that means dividing 3 by the 1/3 first, which is the same as 3x3. That will then lead you to 9-9+1. From there, 9-9=0 + 1 = 1. Ta-da!
If you arrived at 3, 7, or 9 as your answer, you're not alone. Most people have forgotten how to use PEMDAS or interpret the fraction of 1/3 the wrong way. Still not feeling much of a challenge? Try this other math question that not even parents could solve.

A TSA Officer Revealed 18 Surprising Secrets About the Job
TSA employees see it all. Sex toys, water bottles (yes, people still forget to remove these from their bags), the occasional bag of weed - you name it. Their job to is prevent prohibited items from passing through airport security, and while they often get a bad reputation, their purpose is to keep us all safe while we travel. But you better believe they have some stories to tell. One TSA officer based at Dulles International Airport did an IAmA on Reddit. They revealed everything you need to know (and then some) about what it's like to do the job, as well as what travelers need to know before they fly.
1. What is the strangest, oddest thing you have found in a person's luggage?
".22 LR pen gun. Looked odd on x-ray, called an officer to check it out. Next thing I knew there was local airport police questioning the guy and a .22 round LR lying next to what looked like an expensive pen. It was a middle-aged guy who said he got it as a present and forgot it was in there."
2. Do you guys looks for drugs like mushrooms or pot and how easy is it to pass through security?
"Some airports have dogs that sniff out drugs and explosives. Drugs aren't a priority. Food, herbs, medicine, and spices are allowed. So if an officer is checking a bag for a potential threat and sees a bag of mushrooms or pot, it's really up them to report. Then the situation gets passed to actual law enforcement."
3. What is TSA work drama like?
"Some days we get so busy that not everyone gets their usual break, or they don't get the position they wanted, or that someone didn't deserve a lead position. This can typically set off certain people. Other than that, you have just petty workplace drama. Lots of officers work there. Personal situations have caused your usual high-school-style drama and gossip."
4. Do you have any illusions your job is anything other than theater?
"Theater in the sense that it's not totally impossible for someone committed and clever enough to get sneak something through. However, it still remains extremely difficult, and that's basically what the point is. Amateur improvised explosives are generally easy to detect. We are trained to keep an eye out for professional ones that use unconventional and artfully concealed explosive material and initiators. Yet still distinguishable from everyday carry-ons. That's why so many bags get checked, even if it's just coffee."
5. No other country I have been in uses the nude-o-scopes or forces people to remove their shoes. Why should the TSA keep them?
"Not really my call, and most TSA body scanners don't use x-ray anymore. If tomorrow the SOP changed to allow people without Precheck to keep their shoes, I'll be okay with it."
6. What do TSA people do with the stuff they take out of people's luggage? Do they keep it for themselves, sell it online, trade among themselves? What's most common?
"Only flammable or nonproperly contained firearms are taken out of checked luggage. Carry-on prohibited items are actually 'surrendered' since unless it's a firearm (or Improvised Explosive Device of course) that's already been screened, the passenger has the option to put it in their checked luggage or return it to their car or to someone else. It just can't get past the checkpoint.
Liquid, gels, and aerosols are immediately disposed. Other prohibited items are taken to an offsite location. Lost items are taken to the lost and found office.
Officers can't take or dispose any prohibited items themselves. One officer I knew was fired for pocketing a forgotten phone charger. Most common is drinks/bottles and over-sized toothpaste or lotion. Second would be razors and butane lighters."
7. What do you do if you find someone bringing marijuana with them? Can you use your discretion in that situation or is there a SOP you have to follow?
"We can use our discretion since not everyone might know what weed looks or smells like wink. So that means you're taking a big risk if you make it obvious and someone's checking your bag."
8. Do you catch a lot of sex toys going through?
"Every now and again. Fortunately they don't match anything we are looking for. So it's rarely necessary to call them for a bag check."
9. Is there anything that surprised you about the job once you got into the field? Anything that the average person wouldn't know about how the job operates?
"Training is a lot longer than most think. Takes about six months of Powerpoints, training facilities, and mentoring until you finally earn a badge. From the outside, you would be surprised how seriously many of the supervisors and managers take things (at least at our airport).
There is a very long list of standard operating procedure for generally any type of passenger scenario. Especially when it comes to medical devices or religious paraphernalia.
One time last holiday season we were really busy. An officer spotted an over-sized bottle of lotion in someone's bag and annotated so the person doing the bag checks could check it out. By mistake, he pulled the wrong bag and the bag with the lotion got through. Wasn't until a few minutes later that an officer realized that the bag that was pulled wasn't the same bag as the one annotated, but the passenger was already long gone.
I thought they would just clear the bag using the monitor since it didn't appear to be a serious threat. Instead it turned into a full-on manhunt for the lady. They checked the cameras and had local police sweeping the airport for her. They actually had to delay a bunch of flights until she was found. They eventually found her on the plane and she had to get screened again. I've heard stories of planes having to fly back after similar situations."
10. Have you worked with any overzealous agents?
"I'm not going to lie; there are some officers with pretty short tempers and poor people skills. Not the best character trait when dealing with an almost endless stream of individuals each day. But we do have some great ones as well."
11. What's the weirdest thing you've seen seen someone try to smuggle onto a plane?
"Not so much smuggle, but one time we did have an elderly lady try to bring some dead mice in her carry-on. When we opened the bag, there were maggots everywhere. She didn't speak any English, so we never learned why, but I knew this would be a situation perfect for a supervisor."
12. When you put a TSA leaflet in my bag, did you actually take something out? That happens regularly.
"Hmmm, that's something baggage typically does. Sorry, but I'm not certified to operate there. From what I do know, typically things like fireworks or obvious weapons are taken out.
Explaining why they check the bag often requires an understanding of what they are looking for on the x-ray. Can't go too much into it, but certain things often might require inspection if they can't be determined to be potential threats or not on x-ray."
13. How often do you stop people and what is the most common reason? Has anyone tried to run past security?
Nobody has tried to run past security in my experience, but we do occasionally get the foreigners in a hurry that try to either rush past the body scanner or go through the security gate. If someone does, than it would be the responsibility of the Airport Police, in our case MWAA, to stop them."
14. Any recent memorable things you've caught people trying to sneak through?
"Think the most memorable item I found was a military trench knife inside a person's clothes bag. I've caught a few wine openers with small blades and even a few Swiss army knives hidden in the corners of cluttered bags. But this knife was so big, on x-ray it looked like it was a framed portrait of a knife you'd use in Battlefield 1. People don't typically admit to trying to sneak things through. They typically claim they 'forgot about it.'"
15. Does the full-body scanner take and store photos of you naked?
"Not anymore. Newer machines shoot microwaves that detect any material inconsistency. It highlights any anomalies on a nearby digital avatar and we pat those areas down."
16. How often do you have to search people by hand who don't want the scanner? How's that job?
"Yup, we all have to do that too. Typically it's 1/100. Mostly pregnant women, but we do occasionally get all types of people about every 10 to 30 minutes. I do about 2 to 5 a day. Some of us try to reassure them that the ATD body scanner has less radiation than a cell phone, and less than 1/1000th the radiation of the plane itself. Yet, I can understand how some people might feel uncomfortable regardless."
17. My dad is a pilot and used to base there. I am looking to be a pilot and wondering if pilots skip TSA or do they have a different line?
"They have a different and much quicker line, but still get screened."
18. Do you believe it is possible to stop the "bad guys" without banning people based on their origin/entire nations from entering a given country? What do you think of the [Donald] Trump ban on people from some countries to enter the USA?
"Though it has little to do with my job, I personally think it's pointless. Refugees and immigrants already go through either months or years of vetting through almost a dozen federal agencies and private organizations. Banning those people doesn't make anyone safer. It's an oversimplified solution to a sophisticated problem."

How to Clean Your Front-Loading Washing Machine
Front-loading washing machines are energy efficient and use less detergent than top-loaders, but they sometimes have a tendency to harbor mold and unpleasant smells. By giving your washing machine a quick clean once a month, you'll keep your front-loader fresh, which means cleaner clothes, too. This eco-friendly method doesn't use bleach, costs only pennies to make, and comes together with ingredients you already have on hand.
What You'll Need:
- 2 cups vinegar
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1/4 cup water
- Scrub sponge
Directions:
- Start by mixing together the baking soda and water in a small bowl. This is going to be the "detergent" for cleaning the washing machine. Pour the vinegar into a measuring cup and head over to your washing machine.
- Add the baking soda mixture to the detergent container of your machine and pour the vinegar into the drum. Set your washer to normal load at the hottest water setting. Close the door and start the machine, letting it do all the hard work for you. The baking soda and vinegar naturally break up mineral deposits and any mold growth while cleaning and refreshing your washing machine.
- Use a clean scrubber to rub around the opening of the washing machine, removing stubborn mold or residue. Wipe clean with fresh water.
- Your washing machine is sparkling clean and ready to do a load of laundry! Give your front-loader a cleaning once a month to keep your clothes smelling fresh and your machine working in tip-top condition.
- Once you're finished with your washing machine, take a few minutes to clean your dryer too!

Disney mania couldn't be contained when parks eventually opened in Florida, Japan, France, and Hong Kong. Today, there is construction on a sixth park: Shanghai Disney. While every Disney park maintains a similar atmosphere, the magic feeling at each location is totally unique. Take a look at the features that make each Disney resort special, and then decide for yourself which is truly the "happiest place on earth."
6 Little Things That Could Be Getting in the Way of Your Personal Happiness
Travel and sex have been proven to make people happier, but we often overlook the more obvious influences that can affect us as well. Many times, it's the things we don't think much about that have the biggest impact. So if you're wondering why you aren't quite as happy as you want to be, you may want to consider the six things below.
- Your friends: The people you surround yourself with have more influence on your daily mood and overall happiness than you'd expect. It's important to have a strong tie to those who are positive and supportive and who can help foster a healthy social environment.
- How much you sleep: Not getting enough shuteye doesn't only affect your physical health, but it's proven to mess with your mood as well. Lack of sleep makes you cranky and restricts your ability to cope with emotions.
- Putting your dreams on the back burner: Setting your passions aside could result in an unfulfilled self, and therefore a less happier you. The best way to live a life with minimal regret is to actually take as many chances as you can to avoid the haunting "what if" question down the road. So don't be afraid to go after what you want most!
- A bad attitude: Outlook is everything! It's not as much what life throws at you that determines your happiness; it's how you choose to handle it. Optimism can be powerful, so catch yourself when you notice any negative thoughts or emotions filling you up.
- Not having a stress outlet: It's not healthy to internalize your frustrations until you've reached your boiling point. Instead, relieving stress regularly, whether it's through fitness or a creative outlet, can help you release some of that built-up tension.
- Fear: Whether it's fear of disappointing your family or fear of making a fool of yourself, fear has the ability to cripple you. By listening to that little voice in your head, you're holding yourself back from new experiences, people, and opportunities that may very well open up the door to contentment.

"To this amazing force of nature!! My number one fan. My biggest cheerleader. The reason I am who I am today!! I LOVE YOU MOMMY!!," Jennifer captioned a photo she posted in honor of Mother's Day last year. So sweet. Keep scrolling to see the best photos of the mother-daughter duo.

Not even her perfect, smooth, poreless skin has changed a single bit - seriously. While J Lo might not step out now in some of the iconic pieces she wore in the past, she would totally (and actually has) rocked others. 44 Times Jessica Alba's Outfit Was No Match For a Long Plane Ride
If you're like us, your airport style consists of a pair of sweatpants (jeans if you're feeling ambitious) and an oversize t-shirt. If you're like Jessica Alba, even if you're wearing just that, you look put together and chic like no one else.
Her sweatpants are not just plain and boring; they're cuffed, are fitted in all the right places, and have interesting designs. Her t-shirts are elevated with laid-back but stylish jackets and fun accessories like hats and fashionable sneakers. But even though that's the actress's preferred uniform when getting on a plane, she's not afraid to go above and beyond, wearing the occasional heel and leather jacket, too. Keep reading for all the times Jessica's travel style totally nailed it.
Sterling K. Brown and His Wife Both Rocked Tuxedos to the Golden Globes
We can always expect Sterling K. Brown to bring his A game to award shows in a dapper suit, but at the 2018 Golden Globes, his wife gave him a run for his money. Ryan Michelle Bathe donned her own fitted tuxedo - in black to stand in solidarity with other women in the industry, of course - while she and her man walked the red carpet.
Sterling, who is nominated for his role as Randall Pearson on This Is Us, had plenty of reason to flash his signature dazzling smile: the accolades for his work and having his beautiful wife on his arm for the big night! Ryan, who also appears in This Is Us, has plenty to be excited about, too - the show is nominated for best drama yet again this year.
Check out other celebrity couples on the red carpet, then follow along with the rest of our coverage for Golden Globes night.
Winter Is Here! The Game of Thrones Cast Reunites at a Golden Globes Afterparty
Game of Thrones season seven may have come to an end back in August 2017, but that doesn't mean the cast doesn't keep in touch. Just a day after Emilia Clarke reunited with Kit Harington at Sean Penn's annual Haiti Rising gala, the two popped up at HBO's Golden Globe Awards afterparty in LA. The bash also brought out Gwendoline Christie and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Emilia joined them for photos on the red carpet. Sadly, Kit's other half, Rose Leslie, didn't make an appearance - perhaps she's busy planning their upcoming wedding? Either way, we're so here for this reunion!
The Hilarious Reason Allison Janney Had a Bird on Her Shoulder at the Golden Globes

If you haven't seen I, Tonya, you might have wondered if the fake bird on Allison Janney's shoulder at the Golden Globes was just an interesting accessory. But if you have seen the buzzworthy movie (as you should!), you know that the bird was a funny nod to Janney's character, LaVona Harding, who spends much of the movie sitting down with a drink in hand and a pet bird on her fur coat-covered shoulder while she answers interview questions. The scenes are based on real-life footage of LaVona, Tonya's mother, and Janney's reenactment in I, Tonya is totally spot on.
On Sunday, Janney sported the "pet bird" as she joined actor Sebastian Stan on stage to talk about I, Tonya's three Golden Globe nominations, and she soon after took home the award for best supporting actress.
In an interview with the Huffington Post, Janney talked about how much she loved working with the bird, whom she called Little Man. "I gotta find out what his real name is because he's one of my favorite scene partners I've ever worked with. I knew it was my job to make it look like I had a relationship with the bird, that we'd been together for a long time," she said.

What to Wear With Leggings - Once and For All
Let's face it: leggings are comfortable. That's likely why so many women favor them over jeans, trousers, and skirts, but figuring out how to wear them without looking a little too casual is a definite art form. While we're all for being cozy - particularly during the chilly months of the year - a lot of people don't realize that it's actually possible to look cute and wear leggings at the same time.
How to achieve stretchy-but-chic outfit nirvana? First up, find a pair of leggings you love, make extra sure they're not see-through (the worst!), then take some how-to-wear styling cues from the outfits ahead.

I Did This Once a Month, and It Was the Key to My Weight-Loss Success
I was determined to lose the belly fat I've had since high school, that progressively grew from my addiction to sugar, cheese, and refined carbs (aka Swedish fish and grilled cheese) in college, and then from two pregnancies. Running 30 to 40 miles a week and eating healthy wasn't cutting it - a big change was necessary. My youngest was 3 and a half, so the baby weight had overstayed its welcome big time. I went a little extreme and signed up for CrossFit. After one month of classes five times a week, I saw my body beginning to change and felt so much stronger and more confident, and I was hooked. I decided to give it six months, convinced I'd be completely ripped by then.
But I wasn't. Far from it. My belly fat was still there, I had actually gained a few pounds, my upper body looked thicker, and my sports bras and jeans fit tighter. I was a little embarrassed and very discouraged and seriously considered quitting CrossFit. But taking progress photos every single month kept me motivated. When the first week of the month rolled around, I'd put on the same Lululemon shorts and sports bra and take a selfie of my front, side, and back.
When I'd look at the latest photo, I'd frown a little, not seeing the image I had in my mind of my goal body. But then when I'd look at that photo compared to my starting photo, I could see results! My progression was slow. And some months, it even looked like I was going backward. Lighting, angles, time of day, what I ate the night before, and whether or not I felt bloated all affected how these images looked, so I had to remind myself that.
But seeing these photos and the small changes in my body was the motivation I needed. If I only had the disappointing and increasing scale numbers to go by, I would have felt very defeated. Actually seeing my body change from month to month, regardless of numbers on the scale, was essential to the success of my journey.
If you're frustrated by the numbers on the scale, or you're against weighing yourself completely and want a way to keep track of your progress (and your muscles!), get out the camera. Pick an outfit you'll wear every time, and take the damn photos. You don't have to show anyone. Even if you know you didn't eat great or exercise much that month, take the photos! They'll keep you accountable and inspired to stay on the journey to a healthier, more fit you.

I Gave Up Sugar For an Entire Month, and Here's What Happened
My last name is Sugar, and all my friends call me Sugar, so it came as a surprise to them that I decided to give it up for my New Year's resolution. I know I have a pretty intense sugar addiction, so I've had spells where I've cut down on sugar. But this time was different.
It all started last year. I had just started CrossFit and was unnaturally nervous about it. My stomach started acting up and I attributed it to either anxiety or a crazy stomach bug from the gym. But three weeks passed and I didn't feel any better.
I went to the doctor and told her I felt fine when I woke up, but as soon as I started eating, my symptoms would flare up again. And by the evening, I was keeled over on the couch, with crazy stomach pains and bloating, convinced it was a three-foot tapeworm. She performed tons of blood tests, stool tests, and I even had my first rectal exam (a good time made even better by the fact that I had to bring my 4- and 6-year-olds along!). I got tested for gluten intolerance and parasites, but she came back with acid reflux. WTH! My symptoms were down low, not up high. But to appease her, I took meds for a week, just to tell her that they didn't work. She was flabbergasted. I asked, "Could it be something I'm eating?" She showed little interest, leaving me by saying, "I don't know; maybe experiment with your diet."
It wasn't until right before Christmas that I figured out what was causing me this nauseating pain. For my husband's birthday, I made him an outrageous three-layer cake. I then went on to eat a lot of that cake, you know, because we had to celebrate - it was the right thing to do! I felt so horrible after that and vowed not to eat any sugary crap until Christmas came five days later.
It was a Christmas miracle! I felt amazing, totally pain-free, until I made vegan sugar cookies and ate probably 17 over the course of two days. I felt worse than I had ever felt, and then I realized - it was the sugar. Well, f*ck! I was happy to figure out what was causing my unbearable symptoms, but man, how could I live without sugar? It was time to find out.
Since my 40th birthday was on Jan. 2 and giving up cake was not an option, I decided to quit the white stuff the next day. So I gave it up for a month. We're talking no maple syrup, no honey, no agave, no white sugar or brown sugar, no corn syrup, or brown rice syrup. Nada. No chocolate, no alcohol, no cereal, no bread if it was sweetened or made with sugar, no sweetened soy milk, and no after-dinner ice cream. I did eat fresh, frozen, and dried fruit, but the worst was no baking unless I made cookies sweetened with dates or banana.
I'm not gonna lie. It pretty much sucked. Especially the first week. But I got my mom to do it with me, so whenever we craved sugar, we called each other up and complained. But after the second week, I felt amazing! Aside from curing my extreme belly bloat and other digestive issues, the acne I've had on my chin since I was 12 went away, I slept better, and I felt more energized. But one of the best things that happened was that my cravings for sugar went away. I also noticed that I wasn't as hungry. I think eating so much sugar made me hungry for it, but whenever I ate it, I never felt satisfied and always wanted more.
I was only going to do this no-sugar thing for a month, but I feel compelled to keep going. I'll definitely splurge on the occasional piece of dark chocolate, spoonful of dairy-free ice cream, homemade baked goods, and glass of wine, but it seems like my stomach is super sensitive and trying to tell me to something, so I'm going to listen.

23 Breathtaking Shots of Ballerinas Against City Backdrops
Ballet can easily be appreciated on stage or in a studio, but it's even more breathtaking when seen in unconventional settings. Photographer Omar Z. Robles beautifully blends dance and street photography, and the results are nothing short of magical. His Instagram account is a collection of stories told through dancers' bodies against urban backdrops. Rather than sneakers on pavement, you see ballet shoes, and instead of leotards and mirrors, you see everyday clothing in movement on the streets of New York and Cuba.

I Did a 2-Minute Plank Every Day For 2 Weeks - Here's What Happened
When my team at POPSGUAR asked who wanted to try a plank challenge, my hand shot up. But back in my day (lol) when I was in college, a "plank challenge" consisted of taking photos of yourself lying face down, stiff as a board, somewhere crazy (it was a weird internet thing in the late 2000s). It was fun! This recent plank challenge however, was . . . not as fun.
I decided on challenging myself to hold a two-minute plank daily for 14 days to see if I'd notice any physical or mental differences by the end. While I was definitely feeling some toned and strong abdominal muscles, my biggest takeaway was about setting goals. Here are some things to expect on your own plank challenge.
You Can Customize It
Tip number one for this challenge: you can make it your own. I set mine to be a two-minute challenge because it felt like something I could do every day. Hard, but not so bad that I couldn't complete other workouts.
Additionally, pick a position that feels just challenging enough for your body and still accommodates for any discomfort or injury. I began this challenge in a high plank (top of a push-up), but a few days in, I decided it wasn't challenging enough, so I lowered myself on down to an elbow plank and finally felt a little bit of muscle shaking (woo!).
It Doesn't Get Easier
In two weeks time, doing a two-minute plank daily did not become a breeze. I had anticipated that a plank would feel like a cakewalk by the end of day 14, but alas . . . it was just as challenging as day 10, day four, etc.
You'll Feel Stronger in Other Workouts
One thing that I appreciated was the abdominal activation that ended up happening in my other workouts. I became acutely aware of my core and how I was using it in everything from strength training to SoulCycle. I did end up feeling like I had a stronger base from which to work off of - and since you use your core in basically everything, this was a nice little benefit of the plank challenge.
Feeling good about my strength and muscle from these planks!
You'll Want to Set an Alarm
I found that to keep myself consistent, it was important to set a reminder on my calendar. This ensured that I got it done every day and stayed on top of my small goal.
Two Minutes Is More Powerful Than You'd Think
One great thing I learned from this little experiment is that every minute in your day can be used for something powerful. How are you maximizing your day? What are you using each minute and each moment for? What are you wasting time on? Even a minute here or there dedicated to something that doesn't serve you can add up over time and deplete your emotional and physical energy. Channel your minutes into something that serves you.
You'll Learn the Importance of Setting Small Goals
If you're anything like me, you set BIG goals for yourself and often overlook the value of smaller ones. This was a lesson in not taking those smaller goals for granted and not undervaluing the power of adding something like this to your routine. If I can do a two-minute plank every day, what else can I do? Can I add two minutes of meditation every day? Maybe I could add one more strength-training move!
This small bit of goal setting reminded me of my recent conversation with celeb trainer and Revenge Body star Latreal Mitchell. "Limit yourself, and set realistic goals," she told me. "Set a goal for yourself that every day for one week, you're going to wake up early enough to eat breakfast." She noted that this was essentially the key to weight-loss success, but it didn't really hit home for me until I experienced my own minivictory.

I Added These 4 Things to My Salad and Now I'm Not Hungry Till Dinner
I was feeling proud of being so prepared, making five mason jar salads on Sunday, but as soon as I finished my last forkful of veggies at lunch on Monday, I was starving an hour later. Then I'd end up eating a huge snack that was as big as a second lunch. No wonder I wasn't losing weight!
A jar full of carrots, peppers, celery, and baby kale just doesn't cut it. Even though I added beans to my salad for protein, I realized I needed healthy fats and carbs to satiate me for the afternoon. I started adding these four toppings to my salads, and now I'm full and happy until dinner:
1/4 cup whole grains (like quinoa): 56 calories, 9.9 grams carbs, 1.3 grams fiber, 2 grams protein
1/4 avocado: 57 calories, 2.9 grams carbs, 2.3 grams fiber, .7 grams protein
1/4 cup fruit (like 3 strawberries): 12 calories, 2.9 grams carbs, .8 grams fiber, .3 grams protein
1 tablespoon nuts (like salted sunflower seeds): 46 calories, 1.9 grams carbs, .7 grams fiber, 1.5 grams protein
The quinoa makes it feel like more of a meal, the avocado adds a creaminess that makes my salad more delicious, the sunflower seeds add a wonderful crunchy texture, and the fruit adds just enough sweetness that I don't crave a treat after lunch.

35 Plank Variations That Will Strengthen and Tone Every Inch of Your Body
A plank is anything but basic. The move simultaneously works the upper body and core without needing a single piece of equipment to do so. Adding the move into your regular routine will help you become stronger and leaner and can help offset everyday aches and pains. But why stick to the same old, same old every day when there are dozens upon dozens of exercises that take the traditional plank up a notch? Some task you with an added element of cardio, while others use weights to add even more resistance to an already-challenging move. If that's not enough, be prepared to work your balance and, in turn, feel parts of your core you didn't even know were there.
