Miguel, Gael García Bernal, and Natalia Lafourcade brought a pop of color to the 2018 Oscars with their lively performance of "Remember Me" from Disney's Pixar film Coco. The trio delivered a jaw-dropping visual that brought the now-beloved song to life, and we couldn't help but enjoy every moment of it. The song is also nominated for best original song, so fingers crossed it takes home the gold. Watch their performance in full above and prepare to get on your feet as well.
Coco Creators Pay Tribute to Mexico in an Emotional Oscars Speech
In the soon to be iconic words of Oscar Isaac: VIVA LATINOAMÉRICA, COCO!!! #Oscars pic.twitter.com/YixDeUGWAe
- REMEZCLA (@REMEZCLA) March 5, 2018
Coco took home the Oscar for best animated feature on Sunday night and managed to make us sob in the process. After accepting the award, the film's production team gave a beautiful tribute to Mexico during their speech. While producer Darla K. Anderson and screenwriter Adrian Molina gave a sweet shout-out to their loved ones, it was director Lee Unkrich's words about representation that really moved us to tears. "Marginalized people deserve to feel like they belong," he said. "Representation matters!" See the empowering video above.
Lupita Nyong'o Basically Turned Herself Into an Oscar With Her Gold Beauty Look
Lupita Nyong'o has an Oscar (for 2014's 12 Years a Slave) and, now, she is an Oscar. That's because the Black Panther actress and children's book author just wore a gold-on-gold beauty look to this year's ceremony that resembles the gilded silhouette. And, predictably, Lupita looks perfect.
On the makeup side, I'm pretty sure Lupita's blinding gold highlighter can be viewed from the International Space Station - and I wouldn't want it any other way. She matched that glow with her shiny lip gloss, which has just the hint of bronze to pull the monochrome makeup look together. She contrasted it all with a turquoise eye shadow, which acted as a complimentary color to her honey-tinted makeup.
On to the pièce de résistance of Lupita's winning look - her hair! Lupita wore a strand of faux leaves through her natural strands. Vernon François created the look, which was inspired by traditional Rwandan Amasunzu hairstyles. When seen paired with her beaded Versace gown, the gold-on-gold look was truly hypnotizing.
Meet the First Openly Transgender Oscars Presenter, Daniela Vega
Sunday night was all about the 90th annual Academy Awards, and although most people focus on the winners of the night like Allison Janney for I, Tonya (we see you, girl!) or Jordan Peele for best original screenplay, making him the first black writer to win the award, there were so many iconic moments throughout the night. We were especially impressed and excited about Daniela Vega's big moment. If you're not aware of who Daniela is or what her Oscars moment was, don't worry, we've got you covered!
- She made Academy Award history. When Daniela stepped onto the stage for the Academy Awards this weekend as a presenter, she did so as the first openly transgender presenter! This is huge, and she totally nailed it. She introduced Sufjan Stevens and St. Vincent to perform "Mystery of Love" from the Oscar-nominated film Call Me by Your Name, and she handled it with such style and grace.
- She was born and raised in Chile. The 28-year-old actress is from San Miguel, Santiago, Chile, and has lived in Chile her entire life, making her Oscars debut even more impressive and noteworthy.
- Her breakout role almost never happened. Daniela played Marina Vidal in the film A Fantastic Woman, which took home the award for best foreign language film. The film is about a transgender woman in Chile and the discrimination she encounters when her older boyfriend suddenly passes away, but she was initially hired only as a consultant for the film. "He asked to meet and there was an immediate trust and affection between us. He lived in Berlin at the time and I lived in Chile, so we e-mailed and we Skyped," she told W magazine about her first talks with director Sebastián Lelio. "When we saw each other, we spent time together and had a great time. When he sent me the script for A Fantastic Woman that's when I realized he wanted me for the role."
- Her voice is out of this world. The Chilean actress has another big talent that you might not know about . . . she is a classically trained opera singer (with a mezzo-soprano voice). "It was a self-discovery for me to move from imitating others to me growing to sing in my own voice. The opera was difficult and it felt like a personal conquest," she told W magazine in 2017.
- She went to an all-boys school. Daniela has faced hardships and overcome adversity throughout her life, especially when she attended an all-boys school at a young age. "I faced a certain amount of violence. It taught me that I had to learn to protect myself - and it made me stronger," she told The Guardian in February 2018. "It could have made me step backwards with my self-discovery. Instead, it pushed me further."
- Her talent is what she is really focused on. Even though Daniela is an advocate for trans rights, she really wants her talents as an actress to shine through in all of her performances. In fact, in her debut role, that was the main thing she wanted to stress. "I truly appreciate that I'm getting a lot of love from the public, from everybody, from the media. But I respect those people who are activists, who are committed to changing the world and to having an impact from a legislative standpoint when it comes to the LGBT community," she told The Hollywood Reporter. "But my, myself, I feel that I am an actress and that's my role."
You go girl!
Eiza González's Oscars Dress Was a Ray of Sunshine - and Then We Saw the Back
Eiza González is presenting at the Oscars for the first time ever, and she took this opportunity to show up with the perfect attention-grabbing neon yellow dress. The Baby Driver star was a ray of pure sunshine in a gorgeous formfitting Ralph Lauren gown.
It looked simple at first glance, but that all changed the minute she turned around. The back of the dress featured two straps perfectly placed on Eiza's back, held by matching circular facets on each side. They added the perfect amount of sexy and beautifully matched the halter style of the dress. Eiza finished off her look with some sparkly pieces of jewelry. Keep scrolling to see the 28-year-old steal the show.
Lupita Nyong'o's Divine Dress Says "I'm Strong and Fierce"
Every red carpet has that one star the crowd can't stop staring at. At the 2018 Oscars, that person was Lupita Nyong'o. The Black Panther actress wore a fierce gold Versace dress that was custom-made for her. The designer number featured a slit up one leg and chain-link details across the bodice. She simply looked like a queen. Lupita topped off her regal outfit with a Versace clutch, Alexandre Birman heels, and Niwaka fine jewelry. Read on to see Lupita's full look, then check out her equally stunning makeup.
Salma Hayek Looks Like She Just Walked Out of a Damn Disney Princess Parade in This Dress
Salma Hayek didn't aim to blend in when she arrived on the 2018 Oscars red carpet. The star could have easily passed for a Disney princess in this tiered, lavender sequined gown by Gucci. The neckline was regally completed with crystals, which sat elegantly on Salma's shoulders, bringing her look structure and glitz all at once. Read on to see how the actress accessorized with a silver clutch and shoes by Gucci, along with drop diamond earrings by Harry Winston. If you find yourself momentarily confused about whether you're watching the Oscars red carpet or a Disney princess parade, we certainly don't blame you one bit.
If Rita Moreno's Gown Looks Familiar, It's Because She Wore It to the Oscars 50 Years Ago
Rita Moreno hit the 2018 Oscars red carpet in what one might call a good luck gown. The iconic 86-year-old actress last attended the big show in 1962, when she won the award for best supporting actress for her role as Anita in West Side Story. Over 50 years later, Rita attended the Oscars in the same exact gown she wore on that memorable night.
Speculation began after Rita responded to a tweet by The Academy and said, "Wait till you see what I'm wearing!!!" A few days later, Vanity Fair reporter Rebecca Keegan said she had learned from Rita's daughter, Fernanda Luisa Fisher, that she would be wearing the same gown she wore to the 1962 Oscars.
Wait till you see what I'm wearing!!! https://t.co/X9oem3aPdO
- Rita Moreno (@TheRitaMoreno) February 27, 2018
Lo and behold, Rita arrived in the same stunning number, although she updated the bodice from a halter to strapless and accessorized with a gold statement necklace, velvet headband, and elbow-length gloves. In a red carpet interview with E!, she said she was surprised by the gown's good condition all these years later. "It's been hanging in my closet," she said. "I would think that it would tarnish!" Ahead, see pictures of Rita's sentimental outfit repeat.
Rita Moreno's Oscar Acceptance Speech Was Only 15 Seconds, and It Was Perfection!
Rita Moreno paved the way for Latinas in entertainment 56 years ago. The Puerto Rican-born Hollywood trailblazer won best supporting actress at the Oscars in 1962 for her powerful (and frequently emulated) role as Anita in West Side Story, and as one of six Oscar-winning Latino actors - seriously, only six - she's still a huge influencer in both our community and the industry. (Maybe you've seen her as Rogelio De La Vega's mom, Liliana, on Jane the Virgin or as Lydia in Netflix's One Day at a Time?)
But perhaps the most endearing thing about her Oscars win was her acceptance speech - or lack thereof. In preparation for the 90th Academy Awards on Mar. 4, we unearthed the black-and-white clip of the groundbreaking moment in history, and it's a must see.
Watch Rita, wearing an adorable updo and structured dress, fast walk up to the stage, smile wide, and say, "I can't believe it! Good lord . . . I'll leave you with that!" Mic drop.
The Craziest Way to Cook Bacon So It's Simultaneously Crispy and Chewy
Bacon is traditionally cooked in an oven, over the stovetop, or in a microwave, but what happens when you air-fry it? Air-what, you may be thinking? Air-frying is exactly as the name sounds. An appliance about the size of a slow cooker contains a drawer with a metal mesh bottom for the food. The appliance blows hot, dry air on food to fry it with little to no oil. This trend took 2016 by storm thanks to celebrity endorsements from Gordon Ramsay, Paula Deen, and Oprah Winfrey, so what's the dang fuss all about? I busted out a Philips Digital Airfryer ($250) and a package of bacon to find out.
Having no clue how to air-fry, I watched a YouTube video on how to air-fry bacon and followed these instructions. However, I ended up with steamed bacon once the cook time was complete. It resembled deli ham more than bacon, and the fat from the bacon turned translucent and gelatinous. Perhaps this is the preferred method to cook bacon in Europe, but for me, I like my bacon crispy. So I cranked up the heat and kept cooking, shaking the basket occasionally and tripling the cook time, until I ended up with perfectly caramelized strips. I'm talking evenly cooked with no burn spots. Bacon never looked better.
But looks can be deceiving; the taste test would reveal the bacon's true tastiness or not. Remarkably, the bacon had a thin, crisp exterior that yielded to a fatty, chewy interior. I've never had bacon quite like this. The bacon also retained its size prior to cooking and did not shrink at all. The cleanup was a breeze too. I poured the extra bacon grease into a dish for later (it too was pure fat with no black char bits that you find when cooking bacon in an oven or on a stovetop) and proceeded to scrub down the drawer, which proved to be an easy feat.
Feeling confident about my air-frying skills, I proceeded to attempt apple chips and failed horribly. I mean, the apple chips burned and stuck into every crevice of the grid bottom. It was a nightmare to clean up with no reward of apple chips at the end. I know there's a learning curve to a new cooking device, so I'll try again. I'm dying to learn how to make french fries and fried chicken. Those will be my next attempts!

Miley Cyrus Is Giving Us Cruella de Vil Vibes in Her Oscars Afterparty Dress
Oscars night was a busy one for Miley Cyrus. After dazzling us in a pink-and-silver Moschino dress at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards viewing party, she arrived at the Vanity Fair party in a black-and-cream gown. Fiancé Liam Hemsworth was her date to both celebrations, of course. The two-tone design totally reminds us of Cruella de Vil's fierceness, and we are so here for that. She added a red lip and emerald statement earrings to her ensemble for an Old Hollywood vibe. This glam look makes us want to see the star on more red carpets. Make sure to check out every angle of her gorgeous outfit.
Gabrielle Union's Oscars Dress Looks Simple Until She Turns Around
Gabrielle Union sure knows how to make a red carpet entrance. For the Vanity Fair Oscars party, aka the buzziest party of the year, the actress wore a baby pink Prada gown with a silver sequinned bandeau going across her chest. We first got a glimpse at her stunning dress when she posted a hilarious photo with Regina Hall on Instagram with the caption, "Hollywood Prom with my hot date." When Gabrielle turned to the side, we realized that the sequinned bandeau actually turned into a bow at the back. She styled her dress with with jewels by Harry Kotlar, Hearts on Fire, DVANI, and Narcisa Pheres. Keep reading to have a look at Gabrielle's beautiful dress from all angles.
Tiffany Haddish, Relatable Human, Wore This Dress 3 Times - and Do You Blame Her?
Tiffany Haddish switched up her Oscars look when she changed from an Eritrean dress with a heartwarming backstory to a sleek white dress with a thigh-high slit by Alexander McQueen. Besides the fact that she couldn't choose between two outfits, what makes her even more relatable is this isn't the first time Tiffany has worn the white dress in public. In fact, her Oscars appearance marks the third time she's worn the dress, which she swore she'd "wear multiple times" during her Saturday Night Live appearance in November. "I spent a lot of money on this dress. This dress costs way more than my mortgage," the actress said during her monologue. She wasn't kidding about grabbing the dress from her closet multiple times, and we don't blame her one bit.
While presenting the award for best documentary alongside Maya Rudolph, the Girls Trip actress showed off the form-fitting dress yet again, but this time she ditched her heels for comfy UGG slippers. What was that about her being relatable? If you haven't gotten the chance to appreciate Tiffany's go-to dress, get a closer look ahead.
Tiffany Haddish Wore Ugg Slippers to Present at the Oscars, and I'm Never Wearing Heels Again
And the official queen of the 2018 Oscars is . . . Tiffany Haddish! The 38-year-old Meryl Streep-obsessed actress took the stage alongside Maya Rudolph to present on Sunday, wearing one of the most talked-about ensembles of the night. Tiffany strutted on stage wearing her infamously favorite Alexander McQueen white gown for the third time and a pair of insanely comfortable $120 Ugg slippers. With her heels in her hand, Tiffany announced that she just had enough of the painful shoes. Between a repeat outfit and slippers, it's clear that Tiffany is college me.
It didn't take long before the internet took note, praising her for her hilarious commentary and "my feet hurt at prom" attitude. First, she honored her late father with her red carpet outfit, and then she honored every person who's ever ditched their heels halfway through a party in the name of comfort. Read on to see the photos of the cozy duo on stage and laugh over some of the best reactions.
Is Scream Queens Coming Back? Because Emma Roberts Just Chanel-ed All Over the Red Carpet
Emma Roberts is a red carpet queen, but we took one look at her post-Oscars outfit on Sunday night and immediately thought of someone else: the indomitable Chanel Oberlin. Clad in a glamorous embroidered gown and a blush feather stole (both Prada, naturally), Roberts looked like she strolled straight off the set of Scream Queens and into the Vanity Fair Oscars party.
While the spooky series was canceled after two seasons, we took away so many fabulous style moments from Chanel, and we're still mourning the loss.
Check out her Old Hollywood style . . . and just try to tell us Chanel wouldn't have killed her on the spot for that feather stole.
Emily Ratajkowski's Classy Red Gown Will Steal All Your Attention, So We're Sorry If You Were Busy
Emily Ratajkowski arrived to the Vanity Fair Oscars party with her new husband, Sebastian Bear-McClard, by her side. The two cuddled up to each other on the red carpet, but when Emily was standing alone, the model and actress took every sultry pose she possibly could, showing off her caped gown with utmost confidence. From behind, the cranberry dress was actually quite modest for the star, who loves to show some skin when she can. But from the front, Emily's scoop-neck dress bared plenty of cleavage, and she drew attention to the area with a matching ribbon that cinched the end of her braid. Read on to see Emily's full ensemble, complete with a scarlet box clutch and simple sandals. Then, check out even more supermodels at the Oscars afterparties.

Jenna Dewan Tatum Looks So Hot in This Red Dress, Your Screen Might Go Up in Flames

The actress commanded everyone's attention as she strutted down the Vanity Fair red carpet in a strapless red dress with a thigh-high slit that stops at just the right spot. With bedazzled detailing that accentuates Jenna's ridiculously toned legs even more, this dress is officially off-the-charts hot. Jenna tied the look together with ruby-red lipstick that matches the color of the dress perfectly, and her strappy gold heels don't take away from the drama of the dress. You Probably Missed This Detail About Gael García Bernal's Oscars Performance
When Coco star Gael García Bernal stepped on stage to perform at the 2018 Oscars, he sent a loud and proud message to his home country of Mexico before even opening his mouth. The actor, who voices Héctor Rivera in the touching Disney-Pixar film about the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos, wore a special tie for his performance of "Remember Me." You might have missed the tie if you were distracted by the beautiful set or by Miguel and Natalia Lafourcade's impressive duet that followed Bernal's opening song, but it's an important detail: a red, white, and green ribbon bow tie modeled after the Mexican flag.
Coco is the biggest blockbuster in Mexico's history, and Bernal's tie is just one of many nods to the nation throughout Coco's Oscars presence: comedian Eugenio Derbez shouted "Viva México!" when introducing the performance, and 12-year-old Anthony Gonzalez (the voice of Miguel) ended the acceptance speech for best animated feature film with "Que viva México!"
Check out photos of Bernal's special accessory that you might have missed, then watch the creators of Coco give an emotional speech about inclusion while accepting their award.
Just Try Not to Cry When You Watch Sufjan Stevens's Tender Performance at the Oscars
There are some pretty spectacular films and actors being honored at the 2018 Academy Awards, and we certainly can't ignore the amazing music. Sufjan Stevens's song "Mystery of Love" in Call Me by Your Name was nominated for best original song, and when he performed it live on stage, we're pretty sure there wasn't a dry eye in the building.
Sufjan performed alongside St. Vincent, Moses Sumney, Chris Thile of Nickel Creek/Punch Brothers, Casey Foubert, and James McAlister. It was understated, vulnerable, and oh so tender - definitely a perfect representation of the spirit of Call Me by Your Name.
The funny part is, Sufjan admitted recently that he had never watched the Oscars before. "I'm just so proud of the film and I'm honored to be affiliated with a director who is so masterful and astute," he told Vanity Fair.
Well, even if it was his first time brushing shoulders with the Academy Awards, he certainly made it seem like he was a veteran.
Yes, That Really Was Helen Mirren Modeling a Jet Ski at the Oscars
Jimmy Kimmel hatched a plan to keep the 2018 Oscars running on time, and it involved Helen Mirren. During his opening monologue, the host introduced an incentive to encourage winners to keep their acceptance speeches short: the promise of a brand-new jet ski.
"We want you to give a speech. We want you to say whatever you feel needs to be said. Speak from the heart," Jimmy said, adding that winners should feel free to remind people about the March For Our Lives peaceful protest on March 24, which was met with applause. That being said, Jimmy said he would be awarding the person with the shortest acceptance speech a jet ski.
In that very moment, the curtains were drawn, and Helen appeared on stage showing off the garish neon green jet ski, Price Is Right-style. "Helen Mirren, not included," Jimmy said at the end of the bit. Relive the epic moment ahead.

Mindy, fresh off the premiere of A Wrinkle in Time, posted a sweet video of the duo heading to the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty, calling B.J. her "best friend" and apologizing to viewers for his corny jokes. The two brought their fun-loving relationship to last year's afterparty, and we're thrilled to experience their celebration vicariously through these pics.
Keep reading to see Mindy's cute video and more snaps of the pair on the red carpet.
Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph's Oscars Bit Proves They Need to Make a Film Together ASAP
Watch Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph's very funny #Oscars intro. pic.twitter.com/8VlvxK5l7N
— The A.V. Club (@TheAVClub) March 5, 2018
Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph took the stage together at Sunday night's Oscars to present the awards for best documentary short subject and best live action short film, but to be honest, we could barely focus on the winners because we were too busy cracking up at their jokes. Between Tiffany fangirling over her idol Meryl Streep and Maya telling the audience not to worry because there were "so many more white people to come," we were laughing so hard, our stomachs started hurting. Seriously, can someone please cast these two in a movie together ASAP? Get ready to LOL and watch the clip above!
The Cast of Black Panther Looked So Freaking Stunning at the Oscars, It Will Take Your Breath Away
The cast of Black Panther stepped away from Wakanda for one night to grace the Oscars with their appearance on Sunday. While Chadwick Boseman, aka the Black Panther himself, got fans hype by shouting out "Wakanda forever!" on the red carpet, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, and Winston Duke legit took our breath away as they posed together for the cameras. Lupita even shared a sweet embrace with Daniel Kaluuya, who is nominated for best actor for Get Out. See more of their incredible appearance ahead.
Eddie Vedder Covers Tom Petty For His Oscars In Memoriam Performance
Sunday night's Oscars honored the stars we lost over the course of the past year in a beautiful in memoriam segment. Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder sang a tear-jearking rendition of Tom Petty's "Room at the Top," while the ceremony paid tribute to legends like Roger Moore, Sam Shepard, Chuck Berry, and Glenne Headly. Grab a box of tissues and watch the touching moment above.
Here's the Lucky Winner of That $18,000 Oscars Jet Ski!
When Academy Awards host Jimmy Kimmel announced that there would be a grand prize for shortest acceptance speech of the night, we weren't sure what to expect . . . surely the $18K jet ski that Helen Mirren modeled wasn't actually going home with somebody at the end of the night, was it? But despite the fact that Jimmy's ploy for the award show to stay prompt and punctual failed miserably - it ran almost 50 minutes over the anticipated runtime - somebody actually did win the aquatic leisure mobile! So who was the lucky winner?
Congratulations to Mark Bridges, winner of the best costume design award for his work in Phantom Thread. Mark ended the show by riding astride his new jet ski with Helen, which seems an exceptional reward for making his "thank you" speech concise! We'd keep things brief, too, if it meant a special moment with Helen and many years of water-related fun to come.
Elizabeth Chambers Just Dodged a Kiss From Husband Armie Hammer - Here's Why We Don't Blame Her
Elizabeth Chambers was not having it when husband Armie Hammer tried to plant a big wet one on her on the Oscars red carpet. But don't worry, there's no trouble in paradise. According to Armie's Instagram account, the Call Me By Your Name actor has been terribly sick with the stomach flu for the last few days. In fact, he was feeling so crummy, he had to skip the Spirit Awards the night before. Although we totally respect Armie's hustle in his quest to attend the Oscars despite feeling downright awful, we kind of wouldn't want to snuggle up to him either (at least until he's no longer contagious).
Frances McDormand: "Female Nominees in Every Category, Stand With Me"

Coco took home the Oscar for best animated feature on Sunday night and managed to make us sob in the process. After accepting the award, the film's production team gave a beautiful tribute to Mexico during their speech. While producer Darla K. Anderson and screenwriter Adrian Molina gave a sweet shout-out to their loved ones, it was director Lee Unkrich's words about representation that really moved us to tears. "Marginalized people deserve to feel like they belong," he said. "Representation matters!" See the empowering video above.
Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins Has Oscar Viewers Holding Onto Their Umbrellas
It's an exciting night in Hollywood as the biggest stars gather for the 2018 Academy Awards, but fans are taking a breather from the glitz and glamour to grab their kites and go on an exciting journey back to childhood with Mary Poppins Returns.
The first official teaser trailer of the movie aired on Sunday night, and we don't need a spoonful of sugar because Emily Blunt as the family nanny is everything we imagined and more.
It's been 54 years since Julie Andrews starred in the original film, melting hearts on Cherry Tree Lane, but with a stacked cast, we have a feeling the reboot is going to be - yes, we're going there - supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Watch the trailer above, and then read on to see all the reactions of people who just can't contain their excitement over the film that hits theaters Christmas Day.
Just 2 Minutes Into the Oscars, Jennifer Lawrence Roasted Emma Stone Like a Real BFF
In a surprising turn of events, Jimmy Kimmel came back to the stage to host the 2018 Oscars after last year's best picture flub. But while everyone wanted to move on and forget about it this year, there was one person in the crowd who wasn't letting go - and that was Jennifer Lawrence. During Jimmy's opening monologue at the 2018 Oscars, he warned actors to "not get up right away" if they hear their name called. The camera panned to La La Land actress Emma Stone and a mysterious finger in her face. The finger, of course, belonged to Jennifer Lawrence, giggling and pointing at her friend Emma.
We all have that one friend who will call us out on our most embarrassing moments, and JLaw is most definitely that person. If you need a reminder about what went down last year (and then we promise we'll stop talking about it), best picture presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway mistakenly announced La La Land as the winner instead of the actual winner, Moonlight. Emma and the La La Land cast were about two minutes into their acceptance speech when things got reaaaaal awkward and the accurate cast was announced. Because everyone deserves a second chance, not only is Jimmy hosting again this year, but the best picture presenters will be back again.
Watch Jennifer and Emma's moment from the show ahead, and then gush over their adorable friendship photos.

In Case You're Too Afraid to Ask Why the Academy Awards Are Called the Oscars . . .
Back in 2013, the Academy Awards were officially rebranded as the Oscars - which is also the name of the famous golden statuette winners receive. But, few people have a clue as to how the statue even get that name. Curious? According to the organization itself, there is no definitive answer, but there are a few theories people have developed over the years.
While the awards debuted in 1929, the moniker was not recognized until a decade later. Despite this, it was a common term used within the industry, first becoming public knowledge when Hollywood columnist Sidney Sklosky used it in reference to Katharine Hepburn winning best actress. Some argue that this is where the origin of the name comes from, and that this article was what made it stick with both the employees, behind-the-scene folks, and the general public.
One of the other popular theories is that Academy Award Librarian and Director of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Margaret Herrick came up with the name in 1931, because the statuette looked like her Uncle Oscar. No one can say for sure, but either way, the simple nickname has become synonymous with some of the best and most well-known films in history.
Mira Sorvino and Ashley Judd Show Fierce Solidarity on the Oscars Red Carpet
Mira Sorvino and Ashley Judd arrived side by side for the Oscars in LA on Sunday night. The actresses posed for photos together on the red carpet and were all smiles together before heading inside for the big show. Both Ashley and Mira have been in the headlines recently thanks to their bravery in coming forward with accusations of sexual misconduct against disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein.
In December, Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson claimed that the Miramax founder attempted to blacklist the actresses from starring in the popular franchise in the late '90s, saying that he was "fed false information about both of these talented women" by Harvey Weinstein and his brother, Bob. The revelation was something Mira "suspected but was unsure" about, while Ashley responded, "I remember this well." Keep reading to see Mira and Ashley's night of solidarity at the Oscars.

Tiffany Haddish Hurdled a Velvet Rope to Meet Meryl Streep at the Oscars
At the 2018 Oscars, Tiffany Haddish was on a mission to meet Meryl Streep. After spotting her from across the red carpet, the comedian and Girls Trip star immediately rushed over, hiked up her gown, hopped over the velvet rope, and stared Meryl down until she noticed her. Upon essentially being cornered by Tiffany - and we mean that in the best way possible - Meryl, of course, gave her a big hug, and the two shared a quick exchange. Lucky for us, the entire moment was caught on video by Variety reporter Elizabeth Wagmeister. Enjoy the candid moment on video ahead.

Why Frances McDormand Mentioned Inclusion Riders on the Oscars Stage
Frances McDormand literally brought the audience to their feet during Sunday night's Oscars in LA. After winning the best actress award for her transformative performance in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, McDormand did an incredible thing: she told all the night's female nominees to proudly stand up together. The gesture was meant to convey the power of female storytelling, as well as the need for even more female voices in Hollywood. Then, to close out her speech, McDormand ended with two mysterious words: "inclusion rider."
An inclusion rider is basically a stipulation in an actor's or actress's contract that requires a project to assemble a diverse group of people, both on screen and behind the scenes. Whether it's a little-known secret that's been around for years or a relatively new kind of negotiation is not totally clear. What is clear, however, is that plenty of people don't know about it. Frances McDormand made that much clearer to us backstage in the Oscars press room.
"We're not going back. . . . It changes now."
"I just found out about this last week. There has always been available to everybody that does a negotiation on a film an inclusion rider, which means you can ask for and/or demand at least 50 percent diversity in the casting for the cast and the crew," she said. "And so, the fact that I just learned that after 35 years of being in the film business? We're not going back." This revelation alone makes McDormand's acceptance speech special. If she hadn't heard about it in her 35 years in Hollywood, how many other people were equally oblivious? In that moment, she was bringing awareness to a whole room of powerful people.
Of course, McDormand ended her answer in a moment that made the whole press room erupt in applause. She acknowledged that by speaking those two words, she was ensuring a massive impact moving forward. "So, the whole idea of women 'trending'?" she asked. "No. No trending. African-Americans 'trending'? No trending. It changes now. And I think the inclusion rider will have something to do with that."
Everything We Know About Frances McDormand and Joel Coen's Son, Pedro
Frances McDormand just took home her second Academy Award for her heartbreaking and powerful performance in the critically acclaimed Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. In her acceptance speech, she thanked her husband, Joel Coen, and their son, Pedro, saying, "These two stalwart individuals were well raised by their feminist mothers. They value themselves, each other, and those around them. I know you are proud of me, and that fills me with everlasting joy." Pedro's childhood experiences - believe it or not - actually helped her prepare for her role as the grieving and enraged mother wreaking havoc on a town for the unsolved investigation of her daughter's murder.
We may not know much about McDormand's son, but the way in which his mother talks about him and her own experiences in motherhood strikes a chord in all of us.
- Pedro is the adopted son of McDormand and Coen.
When he was just a 6 months old, McDormand - who also came from an adoptive family - and Coen adopted Pedro in 1995 from Paraguay. In fact, adopting him had her considering penning a book on adoption, given her own experiences of being adopted by a Disciples of Christ minister and his wife. - McDormand has been known to be very protective of her son.
In a 2003 New York Times profile, McDormand said she disliked when people would come up to her for pictures and autographs when she was with Pedro because they completely ignored him in the process. She also tried to take on a lesser workload by limiting herself to a movie and play per year so she could focus more on raising her son. - Pedro is a personal trainer and massage therapist.
While his parents are hotshots in Hollywood, their son decided to go in another route. According to Woman's World, he's a certified massage therapist and trainer. - Pedro became a major inspiration for McDormand in preparing for Three Billboards.
In an interview with Belfast Telegraph, McDormand explained that Mildred's anger as a mother resonated with her because "as a parent, you also come to see how the worry and the anxiety that goes along with protecting someone who you give yourself to in that way - that you surrender to - can become degenerative." She went on to elaborate on how holding her son for the first time made her realize how high the stakes were in keeping him alive, and she tapped into that fierce sense of protection for her character.
Emma Stone, an Icon, Brilliantly Calls Out Lack of Female Best Director Nominees at Oscars
Emma Stone is the latest actress to brilliantly call out this award season's lack of female-nominated directors. Seemingly taking a page out of Natalie Portman's book, the Oscar winner made a jab at the Academy when she presented the nominees for best director. "These four men and Greta Gerwig created their own masterpieces this year," she told the crowd. Even though the Lady Bird director didn't end up taking home the award (it went to The Shape of Water's Guillermo del Toro instead), we can't help but applaud Emma for throwing shade at Hollywood's sexism.
Meryl and Nicole Linked Up at the Oscars - Do You Think They Shared Big Little Lies Secrets?
In case you haven't heard yet, Meryl Streep was recently confirmed to star in season two of HBO's hit Big Little Lies. The actress is set to play Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Alexander Skarsgard's character Perry Wright, and on Sunday, Meryl had an adorable reunion with her onscreen daughter-in-law Nicole Kidman (Celeste Wright) at the Oscars. The two ladies were spotted chatting in the audience - do you think they whispered BLL secrets?
Not much is known about Meryl's character yet, other than that she's "concerned for the well-being of her grandchildren," so we'll just have to wait until the series returns in 2019 to find out. In the meantime, we'll just be over here obsessing over this adorable moment.
Snapchat's New Filters Turn the Sky Into Stunning Masterpieces
Say goodbye to those cliched Snaps of sunsets and cloudless skies: with Snapchat's new sky filters, you can add a rainbow, make it a starry night, or create a beautiful sunset on any photo you take. The new feature is yet another example of the company being innovative in using augmented reality to enhance your everyday world.
To use the new filters, just take a photo that includes the sky. Snapchat will automatically detect the photo has the sky in the background and will let you swipe through to find a sky filter. You can expect to first see filters like a starry night or stormy clouds, but just like the 3D Bitmoji, these will change daily. The feature started rolling out to iOS and Android users on Sept. 25.
Unlike 3D World Lenses, you don't need to tap the screen to activate the filters - they just show up, like how the altitude, speed, time, and geofilters already do. Ahead, see some of the filters we've been able to play around with, then give them a try on your phone.
A Catholic Nun Perfectly Explains the Major Hypocrisy of the "Pro-Life" Argument
A Catholic nun's explanation of the term "pro-life" from 2004 is resurfacing - and it's powerful. On PBS's Now With Bill Moyers, Sister Joan Chittister explained why being against abortion doesn't mean you're pro-life.
Here's the full quote:
"I do not believe that just because you're opposed to abortion that that makes you pro-life. In fact, I think in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. And why would I think that you don't? Because you don't want any tax money to go there. That's not pro-life. That's pro-birth. We need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro-life is."
Chittister's position is not only informed by her faith, but also her academic experience: she's written over 50 books and has multiple degrees (including a doctorate).
The crux of Chittister's point is that there's a difference between advocating for birth and advocating for that child's entire life. If antiabortion proponents are truly "pro-life," then those same legislators would not argue for defunding programs like those that provide school lunches or health care. Many who oppose abortion also oppose access to contraceptives. Antiabortion congressmen have consistently also advocated for defunding Planned Parenthood, which provides women with birth control options.
Liberals have pointed to Chittister's quote as an argument for the social benefits that Republicans hope to limit without providing feasible options for women if they cannot obtain abortions.
Celebs Are Sharing Their Google Arts & Culture Face Matches, and Oh My Gosh
Unless you've been living under a rock, you've likely come across a few (OK, dozens) of social media posts about Google's Arts & Culture app. Though the app was originally created so users could admire famous artworks at their fingertips, a brand-new feature has the internet up in arms: one that allows you to see your portrait painting doppelgängers in a matter of seconds.
So how exactly does this newly viral tool work? All you have to do is download the Google Arts & Culture app from either Google Play or the iTunes store, and scroll until you see the "Is your portrait in a museum?" feature, which prompts you to snap a quick selfie. Once it receives your snapshot, the app sifts through the thousands of artworks in its database and matches your face to a collection of supposedly similar paintings in side-by-side collages, along with the exact percentage of how much the two images resemble each other. Some are pretty spot on, while others are, er, a bit off, to say the least.
The app is pretty darn hysterical, especially because it'll match you with different portraits if you make a funny face in your selfie. As soon as people started catching wind of the addicting feature, a snowball effect took place, and seemingly the entire internet began sharing their artistic look-alikes - including celebrities. In case you need some motivation to finally delete some photos to free up space on your phone for the Google Arts & Culture app, allow these hilarious celeb 'grams and tweets to convince you.
