Here's How to Fully Turn Off Your Bluetooth and WiFi in iOS 11

With the introduction of every new software update, Apple usually manages to sneak in some much-needed features. However, the new customizable Control Center on iOS 11 is responsible for some serious headaches. As people have quickly discovered, when you switch off WiFi and Bluetooth on Control Center, it doesn't actually fully turn off these services - instead, it puts your phone right in the crosshairs of a possible security risk.

In the old Control Center, you could tap the WiFi and Bluetooth icons to turn off these services completely. Now, however, doing so just simply disconnects you from the WiFi network you're on or the Bluetooth device you're using and does not actually turn off WiFi and Bluetooth. To turn it off completely, you need to go to your Settings app and do it there. But - surprise! - there's another plot twist; not even that fully turns off WiFi and Bluetooth. If you restart your phone, go to a new location, or it's 5 a.m. local time, WiFi and Bluetooth will automatically turn on again.

On the surface, this doesn't seem like such a big deal. Sometimes people toggle those buttons on and off by mistake and then forget how to turn it back on. However, as security researcher Andrea Barisani explained to Motherboard, turning off Bluetooth and WiFi makes you less vulnerable to cyber attacks. And it's probably worth mentioning that it's also incredibly annoying. I usually turn off WiFi during my commute so that I can listen to Spotify and check my email seamlessly, but as it searches for other WiFi networks and attempts to connect them, it slows down my web surfing. Since I was so used to switching off WiFi before iOS 11 was released, it is not always easy to remember that I need to continue turning off WiFi as I walk around the city.

For Apple, the move is intentional and not a bug. It keeps WiFi and Bluetooth on so you can still use features like AirDrop, AirPlay, Handoff, and Location Services or products like Apple Pencil and Apple Watch. So, if you actually want to turn these services off, go to your Settings and do it there.

It's unclear whether Apple will "fix" this issue or simply keep it. If anything, at least now you know the possible danger and can try to remedy it yourself each day.

How a Necklace Made Me Question My Abilities as a Mother

While celebrating a past birthday with friends, we decided to wander the shops of our edgy downtown street. We stepped into one of my favorite places, a shop where vintage artwork popped from every corner and handmade jewelry hung from pegs. I hadn't planned on buying anything, but then I saw it: a pendant necklace that said, "Best Mom Ever."

"Can I buy this for myself?" I chuckled to my friends. Immediately, of course, they all said, "Yes." I took it to the register and paid.

I am my children's only mom, and therein lies a gift beyond any bronze chain, a gift that says no one else can validate nor eradicate what I know to be true.

When I got home, I showed it to my husband. "That's hilarious," he said, and we laughed together. I admit that I felt somewhat like Michael Scott from The Office, who kept a self-purchased "Best Boss Ever" mug on his desk. I know these types of things aren't meant to be purchased by the wearer, but given as a gift. But that necklace was beautiful and seemed like the perfect thing to dress up my frequent outfits of t-shirts and jeans. So why couldn't I get it for myself?

My children are still in the stages where they constantly shower me with love no matter what. They still want to snuggle in the morning and they always want extra hugs at bedtime. I'm still a valuable teammate for checkers, and I do all the good voices when reading their favorite books. "Your kids are great," my family and friends assure me, "and you're a great mom." But those words are just flattery unless I believe them, too.

When my oldest child - an always curious 6-year-old - saw my necklace, he read it out loud. "Best. Mom. Ever." Then he snickered and continued playing. A couple weeks later, he asked me why I wear it. "I like it," I said. "Do you agree with it?" "No," he said, "because sometimes we do bad things and you yell at us." I nodded, impressed with his honesty, and kissed him goodnight.

And he's right. I yell sometimes, frustrated over the little things. I can be grumpy every morning and snippy in the afternoons, and I question anyone's authority to speak to my parenting strategies. I know that no matter how rightful and loving my motherly discipline is, it doesn't always come out in the calm manner I know it should.

No, when compared to many other moms, I would likely not win the title that my necklace boasts. Still, I wear it because I have three children whom I love. Three self-purchased red words hang over my heart and speak a truth that goes beyond opinion or anecdotes. This truth is something that may take years to develop, but something that seeps positivity into all the minutes I spend with my children.

I am my children's only mom, and therein lies a gift beyond any bronze chain, a gift that says no one else can validate nor eradicate what I know to be true. I am the best if I choose to take on the title.

Things I Whisper to My Daughter

My dearest girl,

When I first learned that I was pregnant with you, many people told me how hard it is to raise a child in the current climate. I don't disagree with them. You're not my only child, but you are my only girl, which put a bit of pressure on me to really get it right.

The second I found out about you, I started to whisper things to you - things I knew you wouldn't understand then, things you still might not understand now. I whisper them to you because I want you to know that you can accomplish anything, no matter who tries to stand in your way. I whisper them to you because I know one day, after years of all my whispering, these thoughts will be ingrained in your brain as truth.

"You are strong."

When I was pregnant with you, your daddy and I were a newly married Army couple living in Alaska, and I felt lost amid a sea of strangers. I would marvel as you moved in my belly, and I would whisper, "You are strong." And the day you were born, we could instantly tell you were just that. You would (and still do) set your mind to things and always follow through. We revel in your strength.

"Yes, girl!"

Did you know that this started as a whisper? It happened the first time you sat up, and then again for each milestone after that. Now that you're a little older, I shout "YES, GIRL!" at an embarrassingly loud volume every time you do something at a gymnastics meet. I know it makes you cringe, but I want it to be something you hear in your thoughts as you get older. In your adult life, you will hear "No" far too often. That's just the way it goes. But at home, in our nest, you will hear as much "Yes, girl" encouragement as we can possibly provide.

"Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four Privet Drive, were proud to say they were perfectly normal, thank you very much."

Harry Potter has played such a huge role in the upbringing of you and your baby brothers. You, my girl, were the first to be treated to the entire series - I read them out loud to you as I rocked you in your glider and you drank a bottle. You would be drowsy but attentive as Hermione bossed those boys around and showed them what brains look like. I'd whisper in your ear that girls can be just as smart, and sometimes much smarter, than boys. I'd tell you, and still tell you, that you're just like Hermione.

"Take a deep breath."

In kindergarten, you started to realize that things are hard. School was hard, making and keeping friends was hard, and gymnastics was hard. There were many days when you arrived home and promptly burst into tears. I would hold you and whisper, "Take a deep breath." I never told you to stop crying, and I still never tell you not to cry, because you can! I feel so much pride when I see you take a deep breath and try something new. I'm also so proud of you for teaching this to your baby brothers. I have seen you calm two fussy babies by whispering sweetly to them to take deep breaths. They are so lucky to have you.

"Be kind, and ignore them."

Something girls with sisters learn early on is that girls can be jealous and mean when they want to be. I could tell you were shocked by other little girls when you arrived in the world of competitive gymnastics. And when you were in first grade, a few older girls told you your eyes were "poop-colored." I had never been so mad, but I told you to ignore them and to keep being kind. Don't let the haters bring you down.

"I love you."

I never knew I could love someone so much until you existed. When you were little and just wanted to be held, I would whisper, "I love you, little girl," over and over again. I tell you "I love you" as many times as I can during the day. I whisper it to you before you go to school, when you come home, when you leave for gymnastics, and when I check on you before I go to sleep. I also whisper it when you're not even near me. I just put it out into the universe and hope it finds its way to your heart.

These things I whisper will probably start to embarrass you in the next couple years, the years when being seen with Mom isn't the coolest thing in the world. But I promise to whisper them until I can't anymore, because even when you don't want to hear them, I still must tell you.

Love Always,
Mom

I Spent Years Looking For the Perfect Boot, and I Finally Found It (in So Many Colors!)

Call me plain, but I pretty much only wear sneakers and boots. Every year when Fall rolls around, I begin my hunt for the perfect ankle boot that I plan on exhausting through Spring. I prefer to find just one good pair that I can mix and match with all my outfits. I love wearing ankle boots with jeans, trousers, skirts, dresses, leather leggings . . . you get it - the options are endless. And my list of what makes them a dream pair is even longer.

My requirements: I won't be shy about my pickiness because if I'm going to drop a few hundred dollars, I want my splurge to be worth it. I'm not huge on heels (for obvious comfort reasons), but I'll go for something under three inches. I also need a rubber sole; having that extra support on the bottom of my footbed makes all the difference. Last but not least, I'm all about suede. Finding the ideal material that is actually nice but not too expensive isn't always easy.

By word of mouth over the past year, I've heard so many good things about M. Gemi. Its shoes are handmade in Italy with top-of-the-line leather. This photo-worthy brand has a wide variety of sneakers, flats, and boots, all known for high-quality craftsmanship and fair prices. I saw these Corsa Boots ($348) on my Instagram feed and immediately fell in love. The day I received them in the mail, I knew they were winners. The box even came with a cute personalized name-card.

My final verdict: The heel is my ideal height. I've spent the last week walking around all day in them, and there was no period of breaking in; they instantly felt comfortable. The shaft height also hits the right place on my leg, looking good with everything from tights and skirts to cropped jeans. Overall, the biggest positive for me is the quality; the leather is soft and supple, and it doesn't cut into my skin when I walk. The zipper is no fuss and slides up smoothly for easy on-and-off wear. I feel like I'm getting designer-quality shoes for half the price.

An added bonus is that these boots come in six beautiful suede shades. The brand also offers different styles of this shoe, including a leather version ($348), a leopard calf-hair-print choice ($498), and even a cool moto pair ($448).

We saw a slew of sorbets come down Spring/Summer 2018 runways - Tibi and Chloé included - and thus assembled your outfit and shopping guide to give a jump-start on your wardrobe for the season.

Kerry Washington Wore a Designer Dress to the Spirit Awards, but Have You Seen Her $179 Boots?

Hollywood stars came out to celebrate the 2018 Spirit Awards, and everyone was dressed to impress. Though it was hard to pick our favorite look, Kerry Washington's outfit was definitely unforgettable. The Scandal actress walked the blue carpet in a floral bustier midi dress with a tiered fringe skirt from Missoni. To give her look a fashionable twist, Kerry picked a pair of pink ankle booties to wear underneath.

The decision to skip the stiletto heels for boots echoed a move Tracee Ellis Ross pulled only a week ago at the premiere of A Wrinkle in Time. Tracee opted for Manolo Blahniks, while Kerry's shoes were by Pedro Garcia. If you're obsessed with them (we don't blame you), you can scoop the boots up for $179 below. Read on to see Kerry's full look, then shop her shoes and similar styles ahead.

I Bought This $15 Bra on Amazon, and I'm Never Wearing Anything Else Again

I have a bust on the smaller side, and I don't need much support. I often find underwire bras are too uncomfortable and thin camis just aren't enough. I saw this Hanes Convertible Wire Free Bra ($15) bubbling up on Amazon recently and became curious. It had over 1,400 reviews and a 4.5-star rating, so I gave it a try.

This bra looks small and thin but it offers me so much support. The smooth straps are adjustable and don't cut into my skin, and the material is so silky-soft, I feel like I'm wearing nothing. Now I'm officially throwing out all my other ones and buying this in every color. The beige one is perfect to pair with all my light-colored tops, but it comes in four other cute colors, including pink. At this price, you can buy them all!

Victoria Beckham's Top Will Make You Feel Like You've Time-Traveled Back to the '90s

Victoria might not have known it, but her polo top was totally throwing it back to the '90s. It's not a piece you see often on the streets, but, of course, leave it to her to make it look like a trendy must-have piece. The Empowering Message on Reese Witherspoon's Sweater Will Make You Stand Up and Cheer

Let's be real: it's hard not to love Reese Witherspoon. The Big Little Lies actress has such a relatable personality and an impeccable sense of style. She was even one of the first women in the industry to really champion the Time's Up movement when she enlisted a jewelry designer to create pins for award season.

While most celebrities wore black dresses in solidarity to the Golden Globes and others wore Time's Up pins to the SAG Awards, Reese found a way to incorporate the message into her everyday wear. She was spotted wearing a cozy black sweater by Lingua Franca ($380) that had "Time's Up" stitched in pink. She finished her look off with boot-cut jeans and a pair of leopard print boots.

Keep reading to have a closer look at her empowering sweater, and buy the exact style, as well as other inspiring versions, ahead.

Catherine Zeta-Jones Has Been the Golden Girl of the Red Carpet For 20 Years

Catherine Zeta-Jones has come a long way. Starting out on stage and screen in the UK, the Welsh starlet made the move to Hollywood 20 years ago after landing a starring role in The Mask of Zorro, and she's never looked back. Catherine quickly became a fixture on the red carpet, making her first appearance at the Oscars the following year. Since then, she's picked up numerous awards (making a dent in that EGOT list with an Oscar and an Emmy), married a fellow movie star, and given birth to two children (Dylan, 17, and Carys, 14).

Though she's never been too far from the public eye, Catherine has taken a few breaks over the years, but after returning last year in Feud: Bette and Joan, she's now back, and she can still rock a glamorous gown like nobody else. Don't believe us? Take a look back at over 40 of her most memorable red carpet looks.

These Magical, Comfortable Shoes Made Us Feel Like Supermodels at Fashion Week

As busy editors running around from show to show during Fashion Week, we've been quick to nix heels for sneakers. "Wouldn't my day be easier if I dressed comfortably, instead of over-the-top?" we've all wondered to ourselves. This season, we spun these thoughts into serious action as one of us ditched flashy outfits altogether, and we all took a tip from the supermodels when we opted for combat boots over glitzy pumps or thigh-highs with pin-thin heels.

We kept it casual for a day, inviting a touch of '90s grunge into our looks in four very different ways. While our signature uniforms are certainly different, it was easy to incorporate combat boots into our wardrobes, and let me tell you, we felt damn cozy doing it. (Do you know how many pairs of socks I can layer under my Dr. Martens?) Ahead, read up on our footwear picks, shop them for yourself, and allow us to inspire your next "moto business" outfit.

The Discreet Yet Powerful Way Men Have Been Supporting Women on the Red Carpet

The past few months have prompted an important conversation about sexual harassment and assault in Hollywood. Since the launch of the Time's Up initiative on Jan. 1, celebrities have showed their support in different ways, from wearing black and swapping spouses for activists on the Golden Globes red carpet, to sporting pins at the SAG Awards and affixing white roses to their outfits at the Grammys. But that's not all.

As noted by HelloGiggles, some men have started wearing vintage pearl pins on the red carpet. Created by the Pinned by Pearls organization, they are a discreet yet powerful way to show support for projects created by and starring women - and by wearing them, celebrities like Tom Hanks and Sterling K. Brown have made a simple pledge: "I am actively looking for projects directed, produced, written by, and starring women, as well as other marginalized voices. I believe our industry culture will only heal when there are new, diverse voices in power. I wear this pin because I don't want to stand by; I want to stand up for change."

According to Pinned by Pearls, the hat pin was chosen as a symbol "because of its historical connection to women's suffrage and empowerment." While they were part of their outfits, the pointy pins were also used as defensive weapons, before being outlawed in many American cities in the early 1900s. The pearls represent "how something beautiful can form from a single grain of sand," meaning that this gesture could be the first step towards an important culture shift. The organization's website explains that the vintage pins were chosen "both for their symbolism and their sustainability. By connecting to history, we want to honor the long-fought battle for equality in this country. In finding a new use for old objects, we aim for a small environmental footprint, and to shed light on the unrecognized tools all around us."

While it's important to note that Pinned by Pearls isn't affiliated with the Time's Up movement, it's great to see that some men are taking another step in the right direction - and we hope to see plenty more pearl pins on the upcoming red carpets. Ahead, see who's already made the pledge.

12 Flaky Texts We All Send to Get Out of Plans

We've all been there before - it's a regular Tuesday night and you just want to watch Netflix and stay in bed, though your friends want you try a new restaurant with them. So you do what everyone else does: come up with an excuse, a white lie, and stay warm in bed, deliriously happy not to be outside.

An Instant Pot Cookbook Trend Got the Internet Smackdown It Truly Deserves

Regardless of whether or not you personally spend any time cooking, chances are you've probably come across Instant Pot, the wildly popular pressure cooker that has taken the internet (and our kitchens) by storm. But as Mike Rugnetta pointed out on Twitter on Jan. 22, there's one aspect of the cultural phenomenon that totally misses the mark, and it's all centered on a series of cookbooks that claim to deliver the best meals to make for two.

While these publications are by no means produced by the Instant Pot makers themselves, dozens of cookbooks have appeared in recent days that share one very uncomfortable trait: each cookbook cover features a man looming over a woman, often guiding her hands as she preps the meal - an action that one exceptionally brilliant Twitter user dubbed "handsplaining."

Naturally, the internet was not having any of this - and gave the "handsplaining" trend the smackdown it so very, very much deserved. Ahead, check out some of what went down when Twitter was made aware of the downright ludicrous branding that threatened to tarnish the reputation of 2018's most popular gadget.

If You Try to Figure Out the Mistake in This Math Problem, It'll Make You Go Crazy

Not all math problems are meant to be solved - some are here just to watch the world burn and make people question everything they ever learned in school. And while some problems have different solutions, others have answers that don't deal with numbers at all, like a Facebook post asking people to find a math mistake.

The photo, shared by Facebook user Antley Lamont Staten, shows a photo of a man holding up two sheets of paper. One paper has the numbers 1-9 written on it. The other paper asks people to share when you find the mistake. Try to solve it for yourself below:

Did you groan? Or are you trying to figure out what the issue is with the numbers? The answer is on the paper to the left - the man spelled "mistake" wrong. The post has clearly struck a nerve, considering it has more than 100,000 reactions, 800,000 shares, and plenty more comments.

Sometimes the answer really is simple and requires no math at all.

You Won't Believe This Gorgeous House Is Only 362 Square Feet

"At under 400 square feet, our Craftsman cottage is indeed tiny, but in the five years we've been here, we've never needed more space," says Whitney Leigh Morris, small-space living aficionado, designer, and blogger behind The Tiny Canal Cottage. So what's her secret to making everything fit? "Nearly everything about the cottage - from the built-ins to the decor - was deliberately chosen to maximize the space. I selected furniture and accessories over time as we learned how to best navigate this particular layout with one another." Whitney recently refreshed her Venice Beach, CA, home for Spring, and the pictures were so stylish and full of small-space living inspiration that we had to share them with you.

The Royal Train Is Basically a Mobile Buckingham Palace

It's a miniature Buckingham Palace in motion, a sleek and streamlined royal residence of the railroads, and the queen's favorite way to travel: the royal train. It's a centuries-old institution which is still shuttling senior members of the royal family around today.

Queen Victoria was the first monarch to use it, although a lot of her frills and fancies have made way for a more functional and contemporary mode of transport - although still with some romantically retro touches. Peek inside the royal train ahead.

A Rarely Seen Look at How Princess Diana Decorated Her Private Palace Quarters

Diana was famous for her fashion choices, but her taste in home decor is a little less well-known. When she first moved into Apartments 8 and 9 at Kensington Palace as a new bride, she was just 20 years old and she had three floors of rooms to decorate in the style of her choosing. However, the revamp had to suit the 17th century building as well as blend with the priceless antiques and oil paintings already displayed in the rooms. Diana turned to her mother for help, and she recommended her interior designer, Dudley Poplak, who worked with Diana to create a suite of rooms that combined traditional royal gravitas with Diana's fresh, fun, and feminine style. Take an up close look ahead.

Even If You Don't Know What Phubbing Is, You're Probably Doing It

We see the pictures on Instagram all the time - you know, the ones documenting our latest meal and what we were doing on a certain day. Of course, what we forget is that we most likely took those photos in the presence of someone else, prioritizing our phone over spending time with them. Turns out that "phubbing," the term for someone who phone snubs you, can hurt your relationship, according to a study.

To begin, researchers at Baylor University surveyed 308 adults to develop a "Partner Phubbing Scale," which was made up of nine items that people in relationships said about their partner's smartphone use. This included actions we do all the time like placing our phone face up on a table or checking our phone if the conversation comes to a dead end. The second survey quantified these actions and found of the 145 adults surveyed, 46.3 percent said their significant other "phubbed" them. Though most of us would think that's fine as long as we're not on our phone for too long, it might not be since 36.6 percent said "phubbing" depressed them. And if that wasn't awful enough, 22.6 percent said it led to issues in their relationship.

"When you think about the results, they are astounding," said Dr. James A. Roberts, professor of marketing and lead researcher on the study, in a press release. "Something as common as cellphone use can undermine the bedrock of our happiness - our relationships with our romantic partners."

Yikes, guess we all definitely need to take a break from our phones every once in a while. Trust us, it's not as hard as you think it is, and hey, it could end up saving your relationship.

The Uncertain Fates of 9 Westworld Characters Have Been Revealed For Season 2

We're inching ever closer to the second season of Westworld, and there is a lot going on. The first trailer and additional grisly Super Bowl ad have proven that chaos reigns as the story lurches ruthlessly forward. While we're excited to peek into the other parks and witness more brutal violence in season two, we must not forget where we landed at the end of season one. After all, a lot of characters' fates were left completely up in the air. Luckily, Entertainment Weekly has uncovered a bunch of new intel about the characters we met in season one. Let's review.

See the Places Barack and Michelle Called Home Before the White House

Until very recently, Barack and Michelle Obama have proudly called 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue "home." For almost a decade, not only has this monumental White House served as their living quarters and "office space," but it has been where they have raised two cute little girls into poised and well-rounded young women. And while they already have their new home post-White House, we were curious to know where Barack and Michelle lived before they both became staples of American history. Read on for an inside look at their digs long before we referred to this power couple as president and first lady.

10 Game-Changing Cruise Tips From Carnival Vista's Cruise Director

Whether it's your first cruise or your 10th cruise, there's always something that will make your sailing even better. And considering how every cruise line and ship varies, chances are that you'll never have the exact same experience as before. I spoke with Matt Mitcham, Carnival Vista's cruise director since the ship launched in 2016, about what to know before setting sail. Take note of his 10 tips below that will change your vacation.

1. The most exciting time of year to cruise is during the holidays.

"Christmas is insane - we have a huge tree in the atrium, we have Santa come on board, we do big Christmas themes," Matt told POPSUGAR. He also shared that Halloween is "epic," with nearly 4,000 guests dressed up in costume. Children can trick or treat on board or leave their candy buckets hanging outside their door. And, of course, you can probably guess that New Year's Eve gets pretty wild, too.

2. If you want to avoid kids, travel during nonpeak times.

"This is the busiest cruise we've had all year so far," he said. "We've got 1,300 children this week, and last week there were 200. Stay away from Spring break cruises." My sail dates were from Feb. 16 to Feb. 24, a week I thought would be free of minors. To enjoy a mostly adults-only cruise, Matt suggests cruising in January to early February - immediately following the holidays when families are less likely to splurge. Similarly, take advantage of quiet periods in between Spring and Summer break and Thanksgiving and Christmas.

3. The best position on the cruise to avoid seasickness is in the bottom, center of the ship.

Although it's rare to experience seasickness on board, book your stateroom in the middle of the ship on decks one and two if you're sensitive to motion. Matt also strongly recommends staying away from Dramamine. "The tablets are great if there's an emergency, but they're going to make you feel sick," Matt told us. "Green apples and ginger ale - that's your key to getting rid of seasickness."

4. Break out of your comfort zone and attend themed nights.

A reoccurring tip I heard all week: "You'll never see these people again." Even if attending an '80s night isn't typically your thing, don't be afraid to completely let loose. The best part is that you're not into it, you can check out the rest of the ship's offerings instead! White Night on Carnival cruises is a fan favorite, requiring all guests to show up in all-white gear and party into the morning.

5. First-time cruisers will be most surprised at how easy the entire experience is.

"It's easy to jump into the routine of get up, eat, go lay out, have a drink, laugh, smile, spend time with family - everything's done for you, and that's the beauty of it," Matt said. "You don't have to go out and look for fun because fun is on your doorstep." Literally! A schedule of the ship's daily events that run from early morning to midnight is provided in your stateroom mailbox or on your bed with turndown service. The most difficult part is fitting all the fun into your schedule.

6. Do your research to make sure you're not missing out on awesome amenities.

Particularly on Carnival Vista, Matt says, most cruisers don't even know that the Havana Pool is open to every guest past 7 o'clock. During the day, the private area is reserved for guests of the Havana Cabana staterooms, but at night, it's available to all. When my boyfriend and I went to check it out, it was completely empty. If I didn't catch this small detail on the back of our Fun Times pamphlet, we probably wouldn't have known, either.

7. The biggest mistake cruisers make is eating too much.

With the endless buffet, 24-hour pizza and ice cream, and three-course dinners each night, it's hard to keep yourself from overindulging. To avoid going into a food coma and turning in early, pace yourself and take naps. "[Naps] are key to cruises," Matt said.

8. Learn from the diverse crew members on board.

According to Matt, this is the one thing more passengers should take advantage of. "There aren't many places where you can go on vacation and interact with 60 nationalities of crew members," he said. "Find out about their culture; sit at a bar and talk to a crew member from South Africa or Romania, and really get cultured - that's the best thing."

9. Always pack these for a cruise and leave those at home.

"A good book, sunglasses, flip-flops, and aloe vera - don't forget your aloe vera, because people burn real fast out in Jamaica," Matt said. "Just bring yourself - that's all you need. Don't expect anything. Just come in open-minded and you'll have the best time." As for what not to pack? "Don't bring a beach towel, a hair dryer - don't bring your husband and go on a girls' trip - more than one bottle of wine, because they'll confiscate it."

10. Don't assume that cruises are only for older travelers.

"When I started 10 years ago, cruise ships were for old people," Matt said. "We have this whole persona that you have to be 50 to sail, but it's for young people and for more mature people who want to have a good time. It's changed so much - your cruise director used to be suited and booted, and now he comes out with Vans and rolled-up pants. I would say come experience it, and if you don't like it, you've got plenty more years to book other vacations. But everyone should experience it once."

15 Things You Shouldn't Miss on the Carnival Vista (the Cruise Line's Biggest, Best Ship Yet)

Meet Carnival Vista: the largest ship of the cruise line's fleet, which features more unique features than any other in the industry. As the newest (the Vista first set sail in 2016) and therefore best Carnival vessel yet, the 15-deck ship blows the rest out of the water. In fact, 85 percent of the equipment installed is completely unique to the Vista. And true to its name, the ship offers views unlike ever before, while its abundant indoor/outdoor settings encourage passengers to enjoy the sea breeze to the fullest - a detail I most appreciated.

"We focused a lot more on outdoor areas on this ship and that's because we forget that the beauty of cruising is the ocean, the sounds, the stars," Carnival Vista's cruise director Matt Mitcham told POPSUGAR.

I was able to experience everything Carnival Vista has to offer firsthand, and I can honestly say that six days wasn't long enough to see and do it all. From the first-ever IMAX theater to the suspended bike course, the 3,954-passenger ship truly has something for everyone. Whether you're a family of 10 or a millennial couple, the Carnival Vista makes a fantastic first - or, in my case, sixth - cruise experience.

"It's new, it's clean, it's fresh," Matt said. "People come on here expecting to have a good time, which puts them in the mindset to have a good time."
