The Bumble Dating App Just Banned Photos With Guns in Them
Organizations across the country have been addressing gun violence in their own ways in recent days, and now Bumble is stepping up to the plate. The company that created the popular dating app, which was built "with safety in mind," announced March 5 that they would be banning guns across all platforms.
Bumble began originally as a dating app designed to flip gender dynamics on their head by giving women the power to make the first move. It has since evolved into a networking platform to help people find new friends and even career opportunities in addition to romantic partners.
"We just want to create a community where people feel at ease, where they do not feel threatened, and we just don't see guns fitting into that equation," Whitney Wolfe Herd, Bumble's founder and chief executive, told The New York Times. She also acknowledged that most gun owners are "hobbyists" and don't support gun violence, noting that the issue is "not super black and white." However, rather than simply ignore it, Bumble is doing something about it. The new policy will mean that existing and new gun-related content will be removed. Some other weapons, like knives, will also be censored. The release states:
Bumble was founded with safety in mind. From the start, our mission has been to build a social network rooted in respect and kindness. Online behavior can both mirror and predict how people treat each other in the real world. Bumble has a responsibility to our users and a larger goal to encourage accountability offline.
In the past, when we've had an opportunity to make our platform safer, we've taken action, banning hate speech and inappropriate sexual content from the Bumble app. As mass shootings continue to devastate communities across the country, it's time to state unequivocally that gun violence is not in line with our values, nor do these weapons belong on Bumble.
From today on, we will begin the process of moderating all new and previously uploaded photos for the presence of guns. Our terms and conditions will be updated to reflect this decision.
Bumble's statement announcing banned gun content also noted that the new restrictions will exclude "users in military or law enforcement in uniform." Furthermore, Bumble pledged to make a $100,000 donation to March For Our Lives, an initiative founded in the wake of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, which was started and led by students across the country seeking to address the issue of gun violence.
We were founded with safety, respect and kindness in mind. As mass shootings continue to devastate communities across the country, it's time to state unequivocally that gun violence is not in line with our values, nor do these weapons belong on Bumble. https://t.co/fC4rPlGJ8y pic.twitter.com/Qmy7zLatRP

The Viral Story of an Abandoned Dog Found in a Garbage Bag Will Make Your Heart Cry
Malissa Sergent Lewis was driving through her hometown of Harlan, KY, when she noticed a black garbage bag moving along the side of the road. Curious, Lewis went to inspect the bag only to find an abandoned puppy inside of it. Though the puppy had a collar, it didn't have a tag.
In an interview with The Dodo, Lewis explained the unexpected and horrifying discovery. "I could hardly wrap my mind around that," she said. "Something was alive in that bag, and I just knew I had to get whatever it was out." As one might imagine, the dog was relieved to be found. "As soon as I opened it up, and he saw light, he just started wagging his tail. He knew he was OK," she said.
Lewis has yet to figure out the circumstances surrounding the dog's abandonment, but investigators are reportedly looking into it. Lewis did share the miraculous story on Facebook in a series of videos that have gone viral with close to 20,000 shares. Accompanying the videos is a caption that states, "If this is your puppy, let me know. If you are the scoundrel who put it in a garbage bag and tossed it on the side of the road . . . you're a sicko."
Lewis is currently trying to find a permanent home for the dog, but she will continue to foster it until that happens. Perhaps one of those 900,000 viewers might be interested?
Their Oh-So-Wise Souls and 8 Other Reasons to Love Rescue Dogs
I'll admit it: I'm biased. I know that pretty much every human thinks their dog is the best, regardless of where they got it. But after bringing my pup, Pancho, home from Colombia (which is another story), I'm convinced he actually is the best! Don't get me wrong - I don't have anything against purebreds; I grew up with Dachshunds. But Pancho has shown me just how awesome rescue dogs are, too!
For starters, there's the whole overpopulation issue: 3.9 million dogs enter shelters every year and, tragically, 1.2 million are euthanized. Those numbers truly break my heart. So when you rescue, you really are doing a good deed for the greater canine community. Secondly, they tend to come with a history, which I think makes them more unique. Of course, that history often comes with a set of behavioral traits that may need a bit of retraining. But these things tend to be true, regardless.
1. They appreciate the finer things in life
Let me tell you, Pancho does not take a dog bed for granted. Never mind my high-thread-count sheets. I can tell by the way he takes over my bed and rests his head on my pillow . . . or any soft surface, for that matter - a couch, chair, pile of clothes. God forbid he sleeps on the floor!
2. They're healthier
Because rescues tend to be mutts, they come from a more diversified gene pool, so they're less prone to certain breed-specific health problems (like labs are prone to hip dysplasia.) That means fewer vet visits and bills!
3. They have street smarts
I never worry about Pancho walking down the sidewalks of New York City; I know what he encountered on the streets of Colombia. He even looks both ways before crossing the street! And I have a feeling he could find food if he really needed to (he remembers where he hides his bones!).
4. They're not picky
Speaking of eating, rescue dogs generally aren't finicky when it comes to food. Pancho will literally eat out of the trash. But that doesn't mean I don't want to feed him the best - it's largely why I started a company that delivers healthy meals for dogs. He's not complaining!
5. They're wise souls
Pancho has seen a thing or two in this big, bad world we live in. And I can see it in his eyes - there's a certain sensitivity and soulfulness when he stares back at me. I swear he knows how I'm feeling and when I need a snuggle.
6. They know their boundaries
I honestly don't know if it's true for all rescue dogs, but it definitely is for Pancho: he's very respectful of other dogs' things. If there's another bowl of food on the floor that doesn't belong to him, he won't touch it!
7. They're easy to house-train
Assuming you don't rescue a puppy, this is 100 percent true. Yes, puppies are adorable (and see my point about being attached below . . . you don't need a puppy to create a strong bond!), but it took me all of a week to house-train Pancho, who was probably close to a year when I brought him home. Almost no accidents!
8. They're more attached
Would you leave the side of someone who rescued you? Exactly. Pancho follows me around pretty much everywhere I go. I never have to worry about him running away, that's for sure.
9. They will love you forever
Now this is 1,000 percent true. There is no limit to the love a rescue dog will give you. They are infinitely grateful for the human who has taken them in, and they will express that gratitude in the form of endless licks and tail wagging.

The $80 Area Rug That Made Me Forget I Hate My Ugly Brown Carpet
I live in a rent-controlled apartment in San Francisco, which is basically the equivalent of winning the lottery, and while I want to say I'm lucky for finding the unit, sometimes my carpet makes me think otherwise. My landlord hasn't updated a single fixture or appliance since, like, the '90s (even the fridge), and the apartment is covered in dirty brown carpet that has become so matted throughout the years that I wouldn't dare walk on it without socks or slippers. In addition, all of my walls are a very nonappealing dark beige that hurts to look at. It's worth it because the rent is cheap.
This year, I've been on a mission to debrown my space and make it feel cleaner by investing in a some new pieces. I purchased some cool wall art and covered my also brown sofa in fluffy blankets, but the one thing I spent forever looking for was the perfect area rug.
I searched numerous places both in person and online. I felt like all the colors and patterns I saw would make my space look even darker or more cluttered. I always caught myself eyeing white rugs, but thought, "No, that's crazy - I can't have a white rug".
Once day while browsing on Amazon, I came across this ivory Safavieh California Shag ($81) and it caught my eye. I decided to give it a try because it was affordable and I knew I could return it if I had to.
After getting it delivered to my front door within just a few days, I was instantly impressed by the quality. It's thick, fluffy, soft, and, most importantly, bright. Within seconds, my living room felt like a whole new space. The light from my bay windows reflected perfectly onto the fuzzy surface to create a fresh new feel.
The upkeep has been much easier than I thought, too. I have a shoe-free home, which helps keeps dirt at bay, and the rug's material is easy to vacuum. The real seller is the price tag because at the end of the day, if it gets ruined, I know it didn't cost me a fortune.

What You Need to Know About 2 Major Computer Flaws That May Be Leaving Your Data at Risk
If there's one thing you hope your computer can do, it's protect your information in a secure, thoughtful way. Unfortunately, a major discovery by technology experts identified new security flaws in nearly all computer processors that make everything from mobile to cloud information vulnerable to hacking.
The two flaws - called Meltdown and Spectre - have enabled hackers to steal sensitive information from computer memory via infected software downloaded to one's device for decades. Meltdown affects computer processing tied to nearly all microprocessors made by Intel and is most notably a problem for cloud networks used by providers like Microsoft, Amazon, and Google. Updates and patches to fix Meltdown are being rolled out and will likely slow systems.
Spectre is a more severe matter and has no easy fix because it relates to the physical design of processors that cannot be easily patched with software. A solution for Spectre likely doesn't exist as it's presumed that a new processor will have to be created to replace the problematic chips. The small positive here is that Spectre is more difficult to exploit. Still, patches and workarounds for the problem will become available until new processors are created.
Apple: yeah we slow down your iPhone
Intel: hold my beer- Tom Latsch (@bobojr2002) January 3, 2018
For those wondering if they are affected by this seemingly abstract problem, the answer is simple: yes, you are likely at risk since Microsoft, Google, Mozilla, Apple, Linux, Firefox, and more appear to be affected by both flaws. Those who should be most concerned are Microsoft and Windows users, but thankfully an emergency patch for these platforms has been released via Windows Update. While fixes for Spectre are largely unknown, Meltdown fixes are becoming available - although they may dock processing up to 30 percent.
If it sounds like computer security is becoming a major issue, that's because it is. As recently as November 2017, Apple's operating system was revealed to have a security flaw that allowed anyone with access to a Mac to override passwords to gain administrator access - not to mention Apple's slowing iPhones because of old batteries. Nearly a month later, hospitals and healthcare industries were revealed to be at great risk of attack, putting the health information of patients out in the open.
Thankfully, the matter isn't being taken lightly. Tech companies are scrambling to fix these problems to save face for neglecting a known issue. Public figures like Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) are pushing for federal regulation of computer security after a hacking attack damaged business in her state. These issues are as big as they seem, so be sure to take this story as a reminder to keep updating and securing devices - or, alternately, make peace with all your information being available to the wider world.
I Had Pounding Headaches Every Day For a Month - Then I Started Wearing These Blue Light Glasses
A few weeks before the holidays, I started getting daily headaches. At first they were small at a typical pain level - but they quickly built up to be extremely painful and, at times, even debilitating. I began taking a ton of aspirin, rubbing my temples like some sort of wellness guru, and I even resorted to googling (never do that) what the cause could possibly be. Although my search led me to think I may need a new pillow or a deep muscle massage to help better relax my neck and spine (which, according to WebMD, was definitely misaligned), a ton of people I talked to about the headaches in person pointed out that it could be due to my job as an editor, which requires me to stare at a computer for anywhere from eight to 10 hours a day.
Add those hours to the time spent scrolling through my phone during my commute to and from work, long nights of catching up with my favorite TV shows, and cuddling up with my phone again once I got into bed - and, let's be honest, you have yourself a pretty likely headache cause.
After suffering for over a month, I decided to try to figure out if too much screen time was, in fact, the cause of these headaches. However, considering the amount of time I was spending in front of screens hadn't increased at all, I waffled for a while on whether or not to accept the harshly lit rectangles as the source of my brain's demise. That is, until a coworker whose new glasses I complimented informed me they were actually prescription-less blue light glasses. It was then and there that I decided it was time to take better care of my strained brown eyes and invest in a pair of glasses myself.
I did consider a few pairs being sold by actual glasses retailers, but in the end, I gave into my impatient nature and turned to trusty ol' Amazon Prime so that I could start my experiment in just two days' time. Fast forward to 48 hours later, and there I was sporting my new LifeArt Blue Light Blocking Glasses ($26) in a tortoiseshell print. At such a low cost (they actually cost me a cool $20 even though they're now listed for $26 - sorry), I could still afford to go the new pillow and massage routes if the glasses didn't work, so I was pretty hopeful I'd arrive at a solution to my brain pain eventually.
Y'all. Either I bought a pair of fake glasses laced with dark magic or these spectacles really are onto something special. After the second day wearing them, I realized while tucking myself into bed that I hadn't had a headache that day. Not wanting to get too excited, I went into day three trying not to think about that fact too hard, which wasn't difficult, as I was swamped at work. Sure enough, despite my high stress levels throughout the day and even staying late to finish an assignment - which meant staring at my computer for even longer than usual - I didn't get a headache.
Admittedly, I'm the type of person who attributes every little ache and pain to something exponentially more serious. A touch of heartburn is definitely the early stages of a heart attack, numbness in my back - despite sitting with my legs up on the back of the train seat, my body weight crushing my tailbone - is 100 percent from a pinched nerve due to a herniated disc in my spine, and of course, my headaches had to be a sign that I had an Amelia Shepherd-size tumor on my brain (Grey's Anatomy fans, where you at?). So it should come as no surprise (or maybe some surprise, if you're unlike me and totally normal) that the disappearance of these headaches meant more to me than I imagine winning an Oscar meant to Leonardo DiCaprio.
I'm no doctor, nor did I consult a doctor before, during, or after trying blue light glasses and writing this post - but person to person, if you're experiencing eye strain or headaches after a long day of staring at a computer, phone, or TV, these glasses could help you as much as they've helped me. I'm two weeks into wearing mine and aside from a headache last Saturday that was most certainly due to the amount of wine I'd drank the night before, I haven't gotten my daily throbbing headache between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. since sliding the frames onto my face for the first time.
That's science, I'm pretty sure.

5 Things I Do to Feel Empowered and Feminine
"Empowered" and "feminine" are terms that likely mean different things to everyone. I view female empowerment as connoting independence, inclusiveness, and community. Femininity, at its heart, centers around compassion, self-affirmation, and self-respect.
I'm a 25-year-old woman of color and the daughter of two immigrants. Like many other first-generation kids, I saw the women in my family as my earliest and strongest examples of female empowerment. My mother came to the United States from the Philippines and worked hard - first, for our family and then, for herself. Her selflessness and self-assuredness are what I strive toward to this day.
To feel empowered and feminine, then, involves contributing to a larger conversation while also taking care of yourself. It involves being compassionate, accepting, and understanding of yourself and of other women. It also means seeing flaws in your own feminism in the same ways you might notice imperfections in others.
It does not necessitate being perfect, but it does involve learning every day! With that said, here are some things I do to help me feel empowered and feminine.
Practice Self-Care
Practicing self-care has made an enormous difference on how I view life. Dramatic, I know - but so true. Hitting the gym three to four times a week has drastically improved my self-esteem. Achieving my own fitness goals has also helped me avoid societal expectations about female beauty. I find myself caring less about how my body looks and more about what it can do. Not to mention, the endorphins from a 5K run or a boxing class give me the energy I need to work toward completing other objectives I've set for myself.
In order to be the positive, uplifting, contributing, and compassionate woman I want to be, I need to feel my best.
Further, the act of applying my Korean skincare routine every night feels healing; a sheet mask session with my mom or best friend is downright revitalizing. (See, self-care encourages coming together with the other strong, independent ladies in your life! Just another bonus.) The act of self-care encompasses self-love, self-care, and self-acceptance. These all encapsulate what it means to be empowered and feminine. Plus, in order to be the positive, uplifting, contributing, and compassionate woman I want to be, I need to feel my best.
Get Inspired by Other Empowered Women
Reading work by female authors like Joan Didion (her 1961 Vogue essay, "On Self-Respect", is a piece I often refer back to), Roxane Gay, and Virginia Woolf - in addition to listening to music by empowering artists like Nina Simone - has impacted me immensely. Looking up to women (and importantly, women of color) who unabashedly create and express themselves is especially heartening.
And these prolific female figures do not have to be artists or writers or scientists or doctors. I'm inspired by Geena Rocero, a transgender model from the Philippines who actively advocates for transgender rights. Her TED Talk about her decision to come out has since garnered more than three million views. I'm inspired by Aaliyah, by Selena, and by Cardi B. Following the journeys of all of these influential and vocal women helps me feel validated, represented, and proud.
Embrace My Interests and Talents
I love reading, writing, and learning new things. I also appreciate keeping up with celebrity news (Stormi, anyone?) and cosmetic items that resemble cute animals. Embracing what I love without becoming absorbed with how it may appear has been key. (Fashion can be intellectual and not frivolous, and what's wrong with liking cute stuff, anyway?)
I have been working on understanding and accepting my interests and abilities as I grow older, and it has been a total game-changer. And with radical acceptance of who I am comes the freedom to contribute and improve whatever I can. Accepting myself has only helped me become a better writer and editor, a better partner, and a better sister, friend, and daughter. I feel more equipped to contribute to the larger conversations (about women, about culture, about all of it) that are happening in the world.
Participate in the Conversation
Every day, women are engaging in important conversation about what it means to be female in the world today. So many women submit their stories, organize activist movements, and create viral hashtags to raise consciousness about significant and often long-ignored issues. Writing and talking about my own take on (often intersectional) feminism has helped me further hone my point of view. Most importantly, I've been able to learn so much more about others' takes. Honoring other women's perspectives and engaging in discussion will only help make our world better.
Encourage and Uplift Others
My end goal is to do what I can to create positive energy and share it with other women. The strength, courage, and beauty of women should be celebrated everyday, and by uplifting others and encouraging positivity, we're only improving the world in which we live. There is a seat for everyone at the table so long as we keep encouraging each other, uplifting each other, and speaking out.
What I Want Young Girls to Know About Their Tomorrow
To My Goddaughters and Every Young Woman in the World,
As someone who is older and somewhat wiser, I want you to know that women like your mother, sister, aunt, teacher, and others who you look up to are working every day to make this world a better, brighter, and more accepting place for you. As we, and countless women you may never meet, strive to make sure that you get the pay you deserve for the work you will one day do and fight to protect your voice and your basic rights, it's our job to make sure you know a little more about this world so that you know exactly how you want to change it.
When it's time to stand up for matters that concern you and your fellow sisters, know that your voice will not only be welcomed, but necessary.
Some will tell you that because you are a woman, the rules will be different for you. One day you'll discover that your gender will hold you to a list of expectations that you didn't create, but that you should follow without protest. This may shock you, and if you're like me, this may upset you. But never let this be something that silences you. You should know that your talents, skills, and abilities have nothing to do with your gender, and that one of the best aspects of womanhood is that it allows you to offer a different perspective, especially if you ever find yourself speaking on behalf of your sisters. Being a woman can even feel like a superpower, and when it's time to stand up for matters that concern you and your fellow sisters, know that your voice will not only be welcomed, but necessary.
Some will tell you that there's only one way to be a woman. When you're young, it will be silent, like rarely seeing dolls that share your darker skin tone, hair texture, and facial features. With time, it may grow louder with advertisements and scores of data, surveys, and research that all echo the idea that who you are will simply not be enough. Others may even try to capitalize on this in hopes that you'll be insecure, but you should know that you were born enough. How you decide to carry yourself, from the clothes you wear to how you do your hair, will always be the "right" way to do so, so long as it makes you feel comfortable and makes you feel like your version of beautiful. Love every aspect of yourself as much as you can, and always remember that there's someone, somewhere, who wants exactly what you have.
There will be many times when you will feel like you need to have all of the answers at once. You will have to make decisions about friends, school, and work that will seem like they are your entire world, and in that moment, they may very well be. This will be scary and could make you feel a little lost, but it's something we've all gone through. You should know that even when you feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders, you have to make decisions that are true to you. Trust your judgment with everything you have, and you will always be OK with any choice you make. Study what interests you, not because others say you should, but because you can't imagine spending years of your life learning about anything else. And if you decide that you want to learn something else instead, it's perfectly OK to change your course. Be friends with people who inspire you to try more, do more, and be more, but be OK with letting friends go when your friendship brings more pain than joy. Work hard and often, but always strive to do work that serves you and your interests. Remember that just because you may have to give an answer about something one day doesn't mean you can't change your mind at any moment. When it comes to your life, you always have the final say.
You can always do a little more than you think is possible.
You will feel as if the problems of the world are too much for one person to bear, and you may find yourself questioning how you can make a difference. You should know that just by caring, you have already begun to put change in motion. No one person can solve the big issues we all face, but any effort you put into making a difference will get us all closer to a better tomorrow. You can never care too much, so work hard to find something that you want to change about the world around you. Throughout your life, you will meet people who have more than you, and even more people who have less than you, and you should try to help those who need it most as often as you can.
As you grow from kids to teenagers and from teenagers to adults, I hope you remember that you can always do a little more than you think is possible. Find strength in the things that scare you and always trust that little voice inside, even if in the beginning that little voice is from someone a little older and somewhat wiser reminding you that she has your back.

32 Fun Disney Facts From a Former Cast Member
Despite the fact that the Disney company employs thousands of people, there really aren't that many who can say they worked at one of its amazing theme parks. And if you're lucky enough to be one of those people, you know how closely guarded Disney's secrets are and how little you are actually allowed to share. I was fortunate enough (yes, I say fortunate because I loved working for the intense company that is Disney) to work at Walt Disney World for a few years while I lived in Florida, and I'm here to share just a few of the things I learned about the company, the parks, and being a cast member, but I have to do it quietly so the mouse doesn't track me down.

Sandra Bullock Presented at the Oscars in the Dark So She Could "Go Back to My 40s"
It's been some time since we've seen the incredibly sweet and hilarious Sandra Bullock at an award show, and after she showed her face at Sunday night's Oscars, we're so happy to have her back! Donning a gorgeous black and gold sequined Louis Vuitton gown, the 53-year-old actress took to the stage to present the award for cinematography to Roger Deakins, and she had just the tiniest request of the Dolby Theatre's lighting department.
"Wow, it's bright," Sandra said to the crowd. "It's really bright. Guys, the set looks amazing, everything looks really great. It's really well-lit, but can we just dim it just a little bit so I can go back to my 40s?"
The team obliged, slowly dimming the lights, much to the satisfaction of the Ocean's 8 actress. "A little lower, 39, keep going, 38, 38, 38, no, 35, now that's the sweet spot!" she joked. "Thank goodness I'm not presenting with Gal Gadot tonight, it'd be like looking in a mirror for her right now, you know what I'm saying?"
All that's missing in the hilarious moment is a laughing snort like Gracie Hart in Miss Congeniality. Now THAT would be the cherry on top of Sandra's iconic presentation. We hate to break it to you, girl, you look almost exactly the same as you did 20 years ago, but we appreciate the humor. Watch the Oscars moment below!

What You Should Smell Like, According to Your Zodiac Sign
Lately, it seems like you can rep your zodiac sign in all aspects of your beauty routine. You can match your favorite highlighter or lipstick to your star sign, or take a page out of artist Setareh Hosseini's beauty book and dress up as your horoscope for Halloween. And now, the trend has come for your shower thanks to Spongellé's Zodiac Body Buffer Collection.
You probably know (and plan your love life around) the zodiac. Spongellé has broken up all 12 horoscopes into their respective elements to create celestial scrubs tailor-made to suit your sign.
Here's a quick crash course in astrology for those who only relate to Earth, Wind, and Fire on the dance floor. Air includes Aquarius, Libra, and Gemini; Earth includes Capricorn, Virgo, and Taurus; Fire includes Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius; and Water includes Pisces, Cancer, and Scorpio.
The scrub's lather omits a fragrance that's set to suit your sign. It can be reused for up to 15 times, or about half of your birth month. Read on to see what you should be smelling like, according to the Zodiac.
5 Fancy Toothpastes That Will Make You Excited to Brush Your Teeth
Many of us have been there before: comfortable under the covers, snuggling up to Netflix, getting ready to doze off, when the panic suddenly hits us - we forgot to brush our teeth. So begrudgingly to the bathroom we go, standing in front of the sink in a zombie daze.
Toothpaste and brushing aren't exactly synonymous with "excitement," and it can sometimes feel like an action done more out of obligation than desire. However, as I have gotten older, I have realized just how important it is to keep your mouth feeling and looking its best.
There is an important link between your oral hygiene and your overall health, and brushing your teeth may not just mean having a clean mouth but also having a healthier heart and body. Crazy stuff, right?
But in 2018, your toothpaste options aren't just limited to pasty whitening formula or classic mint; there is a whole world of fancier toothpaste choices out there. These five toothpastes are sure to add some oomph to your daily brushing experience . . . because don't you want a smile as dazzling as Drake's?

Yes, Cuddling Can Lead to Body Acne - Here's How to Stop It While Still Spooning
Image Source: Unsplash / Toa Heftiba
After a necessary amount of time as a single lady who can cuddle her own damn self, thank you very much, I emerged from the other side of a cuffing dry spell. While I have relished the fact that I no longer have to spoon solely with my roommate (a fuzzy but slightly smelly Havanese pup named Junior) anymore, I grew concerned during one morning-after brunch, when a friend mentioned to me that cuddling causes body acne.
I wasn't sure if that was entirely true. This friend is not a doctor (though she is an actress, so perhaps someday she'll play one on TV). But her hypothesis seemed rooted in logic: cuddling produces body heat (bow chicka wow wow), which might lead to body acne in the same way working out does.
I still wanted a pro's opinion, so I reached out to Dr. Nava Greenfield of Brooklyn's Schweiger Dermatology Group in Brooklyn. She schooled me on the correlation between one of my favorite things - cozying on up to a boo thang - with one of my least favorite things - bacne, duh.
The answer isn't as cut and dried as I'd hoped it would be. "If your SO is colonized with staphylococcus aureus [staph], it has the potential to be transferred via skin-to-skin contact," Dr. Greenfield told me. This germ is responsible for a plethora of health issues ranging from mundane (pimples) to potentially deadly (pneumonia).
Around 30 percent of the population carries staph, which is the culprit for skin conditions such as cellulitis, boils, and abscesses. "Staph has the potential to be transferred via skin-to-skin contact," Dr. Greenfield said. "It can cause folliculitis, or inflamed hair follicles, on the body." The effects of that can look similar to body acne.
"It's a great idea to keep your skin moist before bed."
OK, cool. So how do you stop it? According to Dr. Greenfield, "100 percent cotton bed sheets are a good idea, but that probably won't stop breakouts." Neither will moisturizer, but that doesn't mean you should skip the hydration. "It's a great idea to keep your skin moist before bed, because moist skin is healthy skin and it will protect against other diseases like eczema," Dr. Greenfield said.
Bad news for any naked cuddlers: Dr. Greenfield suggests wearing pajamas and avoiding skin-to-skin contact to keep your skin looking buff and clear. "If you have body breakouts, you probably need a treatment regimen that includes medicated creams or body washes from your dermatologist," Dr. Greenfield told me. "You can get clindamycin lotions and benzoyl peroxide washes that can help."
Dr. Greenfield left me with some words that are just as cozy as 1,000-thread-count sheets: "Stress is thought to be a contributing factor to acne breakouts. Since cuddling can help ease emotional stress, it may actually help acne." So go get spooning, you crazy kids!

Emma Watson's Baby Bangs and Shaggy Lob Are Polarizing the Internet
What an Oscars night Emma Watson had! First, the star rolled up to the Vanity Fair afterparty with an unfortunately grammatically incorrect, but still extremely relevant tattoo that celebrated the Time's Up Movement. But it wasn't just the missing apostrophe that got the internet buzzing. Emma also rocked one of this season's most polarizing haircuts: a modern shag with baby bangs.
Emma isn't the first celebrity, or even the first celebrity Emma, to rock this controversial style. You may recall that Emma Roberts showed up to the SAG Awards wearing blunt fringe (though those were faux) and a lob.
We also spotted the look backstage at recent New York Fashion Week shows from the likes of Alexander Wang, Bottega Venetta, and Adam Selman.
Let's just say people have a lot of feelings about this grunge style.

The 10 Best Places to Go For Moms Who Want to Vacation All by Themselves
I was kayaking around Anacapa Island off the coast of Ventura, CA. The setting was stunning, but I was more focused on what - or rather, who - wasn't there: my 2-year-old daughter, Lucy, who was over 3,000 miles away in New Jersey with her babysitter. I felt guilty when I initially decided to go on the trip, but there was no way I could say no. I had always wanted to visit, and while the islands are family friendly, I knew Lucy wouldn't be up for things like hiking or kayaking. Besides, I didn't want to take the trip for her. I wanted to take the trip for myself.
I'm a single mom, and I don't have family nearby. That meant I needed to hire a babysitter for three days. I went back and forth about going a ridiculous number of times, but as I sat on the water, the waves lapping at my kayak, I was so thankful. Sure, I missed Lucy, but I hadn't realized how much I had missed myself. I hadn't kayaked since well before she was born, even though I used to lead kayak expeditions when I was in college. I had missed allowing my thoughts to unfold without interruption. I had missed letting myself set the schedule.
When I came back, I felt happy to see Lucy and happy in my own skin. I felt more energized, more relaxed, and absolutely certain that a solo mom trip isn't bad - it's wonderful. To be totally honestly, I think that alone time made me a better parent. It made me more aware of my own needs, more appreciative of the bond Lucy and I have, and thankful that the "old" me is still there. And I can't wait to plan another trip, so if you're also in need of a little getaway, keep reading for 10 of the best places you can travel to - all by yourself.
All Eyes Were on Lupita Nyong'o's Cat-Eye Reading Glasses at the Oscars
Lupita Nyong'o came prepared to the 2018 Oscars. While presenting the award for best production design alongside Kumail Nanjiani, the 35-year-old actress accessorized her regal Versace gown with a delightfully retro pair of cat-eye reading glasses that consisted of a gold metal and black acetate frame.
Tweets about her unexpected accessory instantly began rolling in, with many wondering where hers were from. Unfortunately, Lupita's exact glasses by Andy Wolf are pretty hard to track down and are not currently available online. If you're still smitten with her cat-eye frames after browsing pictures of her look, shop similar options ahead. Then see what Lupita wore to the Vanity Fair afterparty.

We Would Do Anything to Get Our Hands on the 13 Best Statement Bags of 2018
I have a handbag problem that I don't want to fix. I'm addicted to stocking up on head-turning purses! This season, there are so many statement-making designs that are hard to resist. Whether you want a crossbody design or an oversize tote, we have found something for everyone. Check out our favorite choices and stock up on a few.
Lupita's Afterparty Look Was So Sexy, It Had the Red Carpet Sizzling
Aside from the unmissable moments, stunning beauty looks, and gorgeous red carpet gowns, one of the standout moments from Oscars night is the afterparty switcheroo. While many celebs opt for classic gowns to attend the main show, they usually wear their sexier, more daring options for the afterparties.
One celeb who definitely proved this is Lupita Nyong'o. The Black Panther actress might have stunned the Oscars red carpet in a chain-link Versace dress that made her resemble a gold statuette, but she turned up to the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty in a fabulous follow-up. Lupita ended her fun night in a black, beaded column dress by Giorgio Armani Privé that clung like a second skin and looked like it was made just for her. She completed her look with Forevermark jewels.
From the low-cut back to the sparkly detailing, this was definitely one of the sexiest afterparty looks of the night. Read on to see Lupita's sexy look from every angle.
