The Cast of The West Wing Has a Message For Every American About Voting Rights
It will be 12 years this May since The West Wing ended its seven-season run, but the Aaron Sorkin drama continues to be one of the most loved (and binged) television series in history. The show's in-depth, highly addictive depiction of the inner workings of the White House is something that has continually served as a cultural touchpoint for the American democracy; even today, watching the plot unfold on the small screen can deliver brand-new meaning to the headlines we read and new depth to the punditry we witness on a day-to-day basis.
But while the cast may just play politicos on TV, in the past they've come together to use their TV fame to stump for issues they feel strongly about in real life, like in 2015 when they reunited in partnership with the Obama administration to transform a first-season episode into a clever engagement campaign. The Whole World Is Talking About Fortnite Battle Royale Right Now – Here's What You Need to Know
If you spend any time playing video games – or know anyone who does – chances are you've heard the name Fortnite at least once over the last nine months. But with the March 17 launch of Fortnite Battle Royale on iOS, the game has reached a whole new level of ultra-virality – not only is it sitting at the top of the charts in the App Store, it's got a waiting list a mile long eagerly awaiting access.
If at this point you're wonder what exactly Fortnite is, ahead we break down every little thing you need to know about the franchise that is taking the world by storm.
The backstory
Fortnite appeared in our lives back in July 2017, when the game – billed as a cross between Minecraft and PUBG – launched on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC/Mac. The original game centered on the 2 percent of Earth's population who survived a mass extinction event, and challenged users to create shelters and defeat zombie-like creatures in order to live another day and bring the world back to normal.
While Fortnite proved to be super popular, what truly broke through was the game's eventual free-to-play spin-off, Fortnite Battle Royale. Unlike its longform older brother, the free game doesn't focus on long-term survival of the fittest; instead, it's a co-op centered around a core group of 100 players fighting to be the last man standing. Outside of Drake, it was recently revealed that a number of NBA stars are unbelievably addicted to the game and that celebrities and e-sports pros alike would be going head-to-head at the video game conference E3 this year. But outside of the more mainstream faces, many have begun to argue that it's the biggest game on Earth right now, and honestly, that wouldn't surprise us in the slightest.

Now that you know the backstory, it should come as no surprise that the eagerly-awaited mobile version has a hefty waiting list. If you aren't in the loop with someone who has easy access to an invite, you can sign up for one on the Fortnite website and eagerly await entry – but it's worth noting that you must own an Apple device running iOS to play. While Epic Games has plans to release the game on Android as well, there is no date set in stone just yet.
Here's the good news, though: the game is still free-to-play on consoles and computers, so even if you can't get access to the mobile game right away we highly recommend checking it out via those platforms as soon as possible.

For many people, marching during Saturday's March For Our Lives demonstrations was a deeply personal act. Countless attendees, who showed their support for gun control all over the country, were victims of gun violence themselves, from the outspoken students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School to singer Jennifer Hudson. The Oscar winner tragically lost her mother, brother, and 7-year-old nephew in 2008 when they were shot and killed by her former brother-in-law William Balfour.
Like Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande, Hudson showed support for the cause by taking the stage at the march in Washington D.C. and belting out a stunning rendition of the Bob Dylan classic "The Times They Are A-Changin." Miley Cyrus was one of many celebrities who showed support for gun control at the March For Our Lives rally on Saturday afternoon. As hundreds of thousands gathered in Washington D.C. - and across the rest of the country - to send a message to congress that they've had #Enough, Cyrus hit the stage to perform an emotional rendition of her 2009 hit "The Climb," all while holding a sign reading "Never Again." The singer also wore a gray sweatshirt with the hashtag #MSDStrong written across the front as a nod to the victims of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February.
"Thank you for being here. I love you so much. Never again," she said. "You guys are so incredible. I find myself lucky to be in presence of all of you wonderful people fighting for what is right. Today is going to be a good day, and here's why: Lin-Manuel Miranda and Ben Platt just teamed up for the theater duet of your dreams. In support of the March For Our Lives Initiative, the Tony winners got together to sing a mashup of their hit Broadway songs, "You Will Be Found" from Dear Evan Hansen and "Story of Tonight" from Hamilton.
Not only is it nostalgic to hear them sing these songs again - Miranda made his final performance as Alexander Hamilton in July 2016, while Platt said goodbye to Evan Hansen in November 2017 - but I can't get over how good their voices sound together. Following her critically acclaimed portrayal of Tonya Harding in the Oscar-nominated I, Tonya, Margot Robbie is moving on to an entirely different and darker project. In Terminal, the actress plays a mysterious woman who leads two hitmen on a dangerous mission. "There is a place like no other on earth: a land full of wonder, mystery, and danger," she states in the Alice in Wonderland-inspired trailer, "Some say to survive it you need to be as mad as a hatter - which luckily I am." Did Jessica Capshaw Just Throw a Little Bit of Shade at Grey's Anatomy?
Oh, to navigate these troubling Grey's Anatomy waters. Very little time has passed since we first learned of April and Arizona's surprise departures at the end of season 14. In the case of Jessica Capshaw, we're losing a crucial LGBTQ+ character who is an important beacon of representation on the show. Suffice it to say, it's a great loss for everyone, but especially a great loss for the LGBTQ+ community. Plus, like, Arizona is a ray of sunshine. The next season will almost certainly be a little dimmer without her.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about these exits is that they don't exactly seem . . . wanted. I'm not referring to the angry fan backlash (although that's very real), but rather the fact that the show's creative forces are insisting the decision is creative, and neither Capshaw nor Sarah Drew seem to be totally on board with the move. (I'm projecting a little bit here, bear with me.) I mean, Capshaw's touching statement is heartbreaking enough in itself, but there's another little Twitter tidbit that seems to suggest she's not ready to go.

Basically, a Jessica Capshaw Twitter account shared a very old clip from season eight. We meet Arizona's childhood friend Nick, who's dying of cancer. Arizona is devastated, because she's a doctor, and Nick comes in when his cancer is very advanced and in its later stages. If he had come to her sooner, she could have saved him. The fan behind the Twitter account expressed a bit of sadness and a wish that this relationship (which is only seen in two episodes) could have been explored just a little bit more.
In a response tweet, Capshaw said that "there is so much more to create here" with a winking face. This would be five days after the news of her departure broke. Five days after the showrunner basically said, "We've run out of stories for Arizona's character." This is Capshaw's (very classy) way of saying, "I respectfully disagree." And, well, it doesn't get any more real than that. It's moments like that really make you wonder what's going on behind the scenes. But alas, whether we like it or not, our days with Arizona are numbered. It's time to prepare ourselves for an emotional goodbye.
Um, There Could TOTALLY Be a Smash Reboot - but There's a Catch
It's been nearly five years since NBC axed its musical drama Smash after just two seasons. During its run, it was a fairly divisive show: it had an incredible, well-received first season, then nearly sank without a trace during its second round. In the years that followed, many might argue that the show has developed a bit of a cult following. And I don't think it would be a stretch to say a great many people would love to see the show come back. Luckily, a potential revival has just turned from a far-off daydream to a very real possibility.
Cut to Stagecraft, a theater podcast that's produced by Variety. The most recent episode features Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC's entertainment division. During the 30-minute chat, Greenblatt addresses the whole Smash situation, noting that many people still seem to hold a special place for it in their hearts. In fact, the support seems to be even more abundant. "Interestingly enough, I hear more about people loving Smash now than I ever did when it was on the air," Greenblatt said. He also teased the possibility of bringing back the show, but in an entirely different iteration.
You see, Smash might not necessarily be returning to the small screen, but the story will live on. We're talking about a stage adaptation. "We've been thinking about different ways to think about a stage musical based on Bombshell or Smash," Greenblatt revealed.
For those of you who didn't watch the show or who need a refresher, Bombshell is the name of the imaginary musical that's being produced within the world of Smash. It's the show within the show, and it's based on the life of Marilyn Monroe. So, basically, that imaginary show could become a reality, or the story of Smash (with Bombshell contained within) could become its own Broadway-bound bonanza. "There's an incarnation which could sort of combine both," Greenblatt continued. "You may not have seen the last of Smash yet. There you have it, folks. Hold on to those dreams.

This Is Why I'm Keeping My American Last Name When I Get Married
"So what's your new name going to be when you get married?" My answer: "It's going to be 'Emilia' . . . wait for it . . . 'Benton.'"
Most people express surprise and shock when I tell them I don't plan to change my name when I get married later this year, but in 2017, I'm equally shocked that most people would just assume I would, because it's what you're "supposed" to do (here in the US, anyway). But a name is such a huge part of one's identity, and my decision is one that I actually have given a lot of thought to - and the reason is probably one you'd never guess.
My mother was born and raised in Lima, Peru, where she lived for most of her life before she finished medical school, married my American dad, and eventually moved to my hometown of Houston, TX, a few years before my twin sister and I were born.
In Peru, children are given four total names at birth: first name, middle name, father's last name, mother's last name. When women get married, they traditionally keep their legal birth names instead of taking on their partner's. This is exactly what all my seven Peruvian tías have done, and the traditions are actually the same in Mexico, where my fiancé is from.
Despite the fact that my mom's Peruvian culture was always a huge part of her life, she chose to follow the American custom and took my dad's last name, swapping her original middle name for just her father's last name's initial. Her legal name became Claudia S. Benton - the S stood for Subiria.
Since my mom passed away when I was 11, when I got engaged, I turned to my dad and her sisters to try to learn about how she came to this decision. My aunts suggested she was just beginning her career as a doctor, and it's likely she thought that having an American name would give her an advantage in the medical field when it came to being taken seriously by her future colleagues. My dad has told me she was convinced she would end up at a program either in Detroit or Miami, because "that's where they sent all the foreign-born Latinos." I can certainly sympathize with that, as I've been stereotyped and even had my intelligence insulted in professional and educational settings simply because I'm visibly Latina. But I'd be lying if I said that revelation, and the fact that my mom might have gone to lengths to conceal her Latino last name, didn't also make me sad.
I've known for years, long before I met my now-fiancé, that I wanted to keep my name if and when I got married. Even though it's been almost 19 years since my mom passed away unexpectedly, she's still widely remembered within the Texas medical field and in the large hospital she worked at. It never fails to make me proud any time I am recognized as Claudia Benton's daughter, so why would I want people not to know I'm related to this amazing woman? My mom's decision might have been an effort to fight stereotypes, but my decision to keep my American last name, her last name, has everything to do with her legacy.

I Tried Gordon Ramsay's Famous Chicken Cacciatore, and It's Wildly Easy
Next on your list of basic dishes to master should be Gordon Ramsay's chicken cacciatore, a visually stunning entree of chicken breast in a light tomato sauce with onions, olives, and capers, finished with lemon and basil. A light coating of flour totally transforms the chicken. Notorious for being dry and bland, the chicken breast in this dish is instead moist and perfectly browned, its seared exterior giving way to impeccably tender meat.
The chicken is sauteed in olive oil and a touch of butter for two minutes on each side so it's caramelized and rich in flavor, then set aside. The key to Ramsay's chicken cacciatore, though, is its base of caramelized onions splashed with white wine to create a rich syrup that lends sweetness to the otherwise savory entree. The 10 Best Places to Go For Moms Who Want to Vacation All by Themselves
I was kayaking around Anacapa Island off the coast of Ventura, CA. The setting was stunning, but I was more focused on what - or rather, who - wasn't there: my 2-year-old daughter, Lucy, who was over 3,000 miles away in New Jersey with her babysitter. I felt guilty when I initially decided to go on the trip, but there was no way I could say no. When I came back, I felt happy to see Lucy and happy in my own skin. I felt more energized, more relaxed, and absolutely certain that a solo mom trip isn't bad - it's wonderful. To be totally honestly, I think that alone time made me a better parent. It made me more aware of my own needs, more appreciative of the bond Lucy and I have, and thankful that the "old" me is still there. One of the great things about having friends, family, or neighbors with children is the almost endless possibilities for hand-me-downs. Kids grow so quickly in the first few years of their lives; one moment they fit perfectly into that Winter coat, and the next it's like a tube top. But because they grow so quickly and their clothes and toys are usually only slightly worn, it seems unreasonable to just get rid of them or to keep buying them brand new items every few months. While hand-me-downs are a great way to save money and to make use out of things that still have a lot of potential, there are some steadfast rules you should always follow, whether you're the giver or the receiver.
- Check Product Recalls. The last thing you want to do is give away or receive a product that's been recalled by the manufacturer. Whether it's clothing, furniture, toys, or other items, always be sure to check that the specific product you're giving or receiving is still safe to use. This is especially important for items like furniture, car seats, and other pieces that could put your child or someone else's child in danger if they're defective.
- Make Sure They're Extremely Clean. Whether or not you realize it, giving away your child's worn clothes or used toys without washing them could spread dangerous germs, allergens, and more. And if you're the one on the receiving end of the used items, make sure you wash them, launder them, and give them a good once-over to make sure they're really clean. - Don't Give Away Your Trash. Has your child stopped using a toy because it's missing pieces or because something is broken, causing it not to work anymore? Skylar's Boyfriend Is a Marine and Couldn't Take Prom Pictures - So His 2-Year-Old Brother Did Instead
When Skylar Fontaine, an 18-year-old senior in high school from New Orleans, realized that her boyfriend wouldn't be able to attend prom with her, she had (understandably) mixed emotions. But Skylar's love story is a little different than those of most young adults her age. Her boyfriend, Pvt. Gage Moak, is a Marine and attends Military Occupational Specialty school on the East Coast. So while she was upset that Gage couldn't make it to her prom, she understood that he's "making the ultimate sacrifice" through his service. Instead, his younger brother, 2-year-old Clay Moak Jr., stood in for him, dressed in an adorable child's-size Marine outfit.
"I thought this would be a sweet gesture to send to my boyfriend. He is a family man and very sentimental. He always puts his family first, and that's his motivation to be a United States Marine," Skylar said. She explained that Clay wants to be just like his big brother one day, and when she stumbled across a precious Marine costume online, she mentioned the idea of taking prom pictures to Gage's grandmother and mother. The little tux and Marine outfit were ordered, and Clay became the perfect stand-in.
On March 16, the day of the prom, Skylar and Clay took their not-so-traditional prom pictures to send to Gage before she left for the dance with friends. While Clay is still young, she knows these will be great memories for him to look back on.
As for Gage? Skylar said he was so thrilled to get the pictures and see their smiling faces, especially since he misses her and his family more than words can describe.
"Even though Gage is 1,000 miles away, a Moak still made sure I had a great prom! It meant so much to me to have Gage be a part of my night, even though he couldn't actually be here with me," Skylar sweetly shared. Welp, pack it up, folks. That's officially the cutest thing we've heard all day.

A breakfast-and-lunch joint, Magnolia Table's menu includes both tried-and-true staples (think: bacon and eggs, avocado toast, and pastries) and traditional Gaines family dishes, like Chip's signature ham sandwich. The $32 Space Heater That Finally Made My Freezing Apartment Tolerable This Winter
My apartment doesn't have a heater. As a result, I normally spend the Winter cuddled up in flannel pajamas, an oversize bathrobe, fluffy socks, and extralarge slippers. This year, I decided to ditch the layers and invest in a space heater after I found this portable Lasko Ceramic Heater ($32) on Amazon. My apartment is old and hasn't been updated in a long time, so because of this I needed something that had low voltage. Years ago, my roommates and I had another space heater, but the voltage was so high that when we turned on another appliance, all of our electricity would go out. It became too much of a hassle, so we stopped using the heater. In my search for a new one, it was important to find something small yet mighty.
As soon as it arrived, I instantly turned it on and was impressed. My living room and bedroom are both on the large side, but within 10 minutes, they felt warmer. Now my favorite thing to do is stick it next to my feet while I'm watching TV or turn it on in my bedroom right before I take a shower so I can return to heated room. The lightweight design makes it easy for me to carry for room to room.
This Lasko heater was ideal because on a low setting it only uses 900 watts, meaning I could safely dry my hair at the same time. And if I want to turn it up, I can use the higher setting at 1,500 watts; I just make sure to not use any other large electronics simultaneously.

This Couple Had Their Wedding Photos Taken at Target, and Yes, We're Insanely Jealous!
When it came time to decide on where to have their weddings photos taken, it was a no-brainer for Isabella Sablan and her soon-to-be husband, Michael Delvalle: they would take them in their local Target store, of course. Isabella told POPSUGAR that although the idea started off as a joke, after a few months, the couple started to seriously consider the idea.
"When we first got engaged, I jokingly mentioned that we should do our engagement photos at Target since we love the store so much and go so often," she said. Mom's Reaction to Holding Her Newborn Rainbow Baby Is So Powerful
Birth photographer Laura Fifield has documented several rainbow baby births and says they've all been special. However, a recent rainbow birth she captured has one particular standout photo that is giving us the chills.
After losing her third child due to complications from a tubal pregnancy, Lila and her husband Tim were devastated. When she conceived again following the loss, she was both excited and nervous for her rainbow pregnancy. "I gained an amazing appreciation [of the] delicacy of both pregnancy and my own life," Lila wrote on Laura's blog in a post sharing photos of her daughter's birth. "One year after experiencing our loss there I was holding the most precious gift of all, our fearfully and wonderfully made rainbow baby, Audrey Joy."
Among the photos Laura took, the above, featuring an overwhelmed Lila holding Audrey with a solitary tear dripping down her cheek, is a beyond-powerful photo that truly captures the bittersweet emotions that come with a rainbow baby's birth.
"In a way, documenting the rainbow baby birth of Audrey Joy was like watching life come full circle," Laura told POPSUGAR. "Lila's due date with Audrey was almost exactly one year from the date of her loss. Seeing the storm end with new life is a beautiful reminder of just how precious children are."

No matter how old you are, the first day of school can be rough, and this mom has the photos to prove it. Kelly O'Brien took photos of her adorable 5-year-old daughter Franky Meyer before and after her first day of preschool, and the results were hilarious.

Mom's Message About Her Baby's Death: "If I Had Given Him Just 1 Bottle, He'd Still Be Alive"
On what would have been Landon's fifth birthday, his mom, Jillian Johnson, managed to sideline her grief to speak out about the death of her baby boy.
Jillian has struggled with wanting to share what happened to Landon for a long time, but feared what others would say and how she would be judged. However, she is ready to put those feelings aside in the hopes that sharing her story will help prevent other families from experiencing the loss that hers has been suffering.
Before Landon's birth, Jillian and her husband thought that they were doing everything in their power to prepare themselves. "We took all of the classes. Bought and read all of the books. We were ready! Or so we thought . . . " she shared on the Fed Is Best Foundation's blog. "Every class and book was geared toward breastfeeding and how it's so important if you want a healthy child."
They even decided to deliver Landon at a "baby-friendly" hospital that was geared towards breastfeeding. After Landon was born via emergency C-section, he exclusively breastfed. Despite lactation consultants saying that "he had a great latch and was doing fine," one noted that Jillian might be having trouble producing milk.
After hospital staff evaluated Jillian's risk factors for difficulties with milk production, they had Landon continue to breastfeed, even though he would constantly cry unless he was on his mom's breast. Jillian felt like she was continuously breastfeeding and when she asked why her baby was always on her breast, she was told that it was because he was "cluster feeding."
"I recalled learning all about that in the classes I had taken, and being a first time mom, I trusted my doctors and nurses to help me through this – even more so since I was pretty heavily medicated from my emergency C-section and this was my first baby," she wrote. "But I was wrong. I've learned I have to be my child's number one advocate."
Landon nursed over nine hours during his first 24 hours of life, but after being alive just 53 hours, he had lost 9.72 percent of his birth weight. Landon was discharged at less than 3 days old and continued to frequently and exclusively breastfeed "with a mother whose milk had not come in."
"So we took him home . . . not knowing that after less than 12 hours home with us, he would have gone into cardiac arrest caused by dehydration," she wrote. "Did you know newborns aren't supposed to cry all the time? They're supposed to eat and sleep and dirty their diapers. I had no idea that he was inconsolable because he was starving – literally."
After getting home, Landon fell asleep while cluster feeding and became unresponsive with no pulse, and turned blue. After 15 days on life support, the newborn passed away. "The best advice I was given by one of his NICU doctors while he was on life support is 'Sure breast is best, but follow with the bottle,'" she wrote. "This way you know your baby has eaten enough. If only I could go back in time."
Dr. Christie del Castillo-Hegyi, an emergency physician with a background in newborn brain injury research at Brown University, explained how Landon died as a result of dehydration, which was followed by cardiac arrest caused by brain injury:
Constant, unsatisfied nursing and inconsolable crying are two of the signs of newborn starvation that lead to brain-threatening complications. If a child is receiving a fraction of their caloric requirement through early exclusive breastfeeding, they can experience severe hunger and thirst, which is why they will cry inconsolably and breastfeed continuously when it is the only source of calories and fluid they are offered. If a mother's colostrum does not meet the child's caloric requirement, they will breastfeed for hours a day in an attempt to relieve their hunger. A child who is "cluster-feeding" may actually burn more calories breastfeeding than they receive in return, which can result in fasting conditions and accelerated weight loss.
Five years later, his mom is still dealing with endless guilt and questions what her life be now if she had just known to give him a bottle.
"And anger because how would I have known? I remember when Stella was born, and she was always quiet. I kept asking the nurses what was wrong with her. They said, 'Nothing. She's doing what she's supposed to,'" she wrote. "Sleeping. Eating. And it was then that I realized that it wasn't normal for a newborn to cry as much as Landon did. He was just crying out from his hunger. But I didn't know. I should've known. I still struggle daily feeling as though I failed him."

Study Finds That Dogs Obey Women More - the Reason Will Give You a Genuine "Aha!" Moment
Ever wonder why all the princesses in fairy tales have such a great rapport with animals? A 2017 study that is resurfacing online has concluded that, although we can't actually speak to our furry friends like they do in Disney flicks, in real life, women are actually more fluent in "dog" than men. And as a result, dogs are often more obedient to women than their male counterparts.
In the experiment, which was published in the journal Royal Society of Open Science, researchers recorded the sound of nearly 20 dogs growling in different scenarios - guarding food from other dogs, playing tug of war, or feeling threatened by an approaching stranger - and had a small sample of 40 people attempt to identify the context of the growl.
On the whole, humans were good at associating the correct growls with the correct root emotion. But two types of people - women and those participants who were particularly experienced with dogs - consistently scored higher in this task.
Although that might be surprising information, the reason for this increased animal aptitude will probably come as a shock to not one woman. On the contrary, it likely makes perfect sense. Women had a "higher sensitivity to emotional stimuli," the study reported.
"Female participants seem to have an advantage in the recognition of the context," it continued. "It is known that women have a higher emotional sensitivity . . . women are likely more empathetic and sensitive to others' emotions, [which] can help to differentiate better the context of the emotional content of the growls."

Jessica Johnston, a mom of four from California, has a question for her husband she'd love an answer to: "Where is my push present?" She explained in a hilarious Facebook post that even though she had her kiddos years before the whole push present concept came about, she's ready to cash in.
