A Woman's Heartbreaking Words to Her Husband About the "Choke Hold" Anxiety Has
"You know how she can't understand when she asks, 'What are you thinking?' Why you would respond with 'Nothing.' It's because she never thinks . . . nothing. Her thoughts replay like a freight train in her head full steam ahead, over and over. It's exhausting for her. It's why she's tired."
When I read these words, they rang especially true for me. Anxiety is my very harsh reality, and so many struggle with it daily. A woman named Laura shared a Facebook post on the Love What Matters page - a letter dedicated "to the man whose wife or partner has anxiety."
Anyone who suffers with anxiety can relate to her words, as she describes what living with mental illness is like and how grateful she is to her partner for being there for her.
"You might have heard that she has anxiety from sitting by her side in a doctor's office, holding her hands while the tears stream down her face. You might have seen her get angry and explode because she's overwhelmed. Wondering where this rage has come from.
You might have seen her sit quietly staring into the distance with panic in her eyes. You might have guessed, or she might have told you, but either way there are things you should know.
Anxiety isn't a one size fits all, it isn't consistent and it isn't always easy to tell. You might think she just snapped at you, but it was anxiety that did it, you might think she's angry, but it's the anxiety that's got a choke hold, you might think she's not enjoying herself when you go out and it's your fault, but it's not. It's anxiety."
The "letter" describes the worst-case scenarios that fly through the minds each day of people dealing with anxiety, thinking of all that could possibly go wrong and worrying about what we will do if it does. The letter also expresses the fear that because of our anxiety, we are harder to love or unworthy of the sentiment. "I want you to know I see this is tough on you," she says. "Tough to see your loved one hurt. But don't think for a second she doesn't see you, don't think for a second she doesn't worry about you too. She even gets anxiety about you. She knows it's not your fault, and she knows you want to fix her and in the way that means help her, but you can't fix her. She's not broken."
But even though those suffering with anxiety certainly aren't "broken," there are things that our loved ones do that help in ways our significant others may never understand. From holding our hands and telling us you're there for us to allowing us to sit down and breathe when we need to, every gesture is felt and appreciated beyond words.
"Don't make her feel bad for missing an appointment, a party, whatever. She wanted to go, but she couldn't. She already feels bad. Tell her it's okay," says Laura.
Even if the anxiety-sufferer doesn't know what they need themselves, the letter continues, patience and love are what really matters. Anxiety is heartbreaking and all-consuming; there are good days, and then some days are really, really bad. But Laura and myself and so many others want their loved ones to know something very important:
"She appreciates you, she loves you. She's vulnerable and scared. But . . . she knew the day she met you that you were the one worthy enough to see her in all her imperfections. She will love you with that whole heart, and you know she will because she's already listed the pros and cons . . . and just as you are by her side she will be fiercely loyal to yours. Forever and ever, you just to need take her hand and tell her, 'I am with you.'"

I've Spent a Year Searching For My Forever Mascara - Here's Everything I Learned
Up until a year ago, I had been wearing the same drugstore mascara that I discovered in high school. I purchased tube after tube for over a decade, trusting the formula to make my stick-straight Asian eyelashes look long, thick, and, most importantly, dramatically curled. Accompanied by a good dose of eyeliner along my top and bottom lash line, the mascara looked fantastic. I had no complaints.
But when I hit my mid-20s, my approach to makeup shifted - I grew more comfortable and confident in my own skin and started to appreciate a less-is-more beauty look. As someone who previously balked at the thought of leaving the house without wearing a full face of makeup, I found myself going out more and more frequently with just my lashes and eyebrows done. And I soon discovered that without the buffer of eyeliner, my previously trusty mascara would end up tragically transferred onto my lower lash line (where I would normally apply eyeliner) by the end of the day.
Disappointed, I set out to find a new everyday mascara - one that would still hold an aggressive curl, minus the raccoon eyes. Little did I know, it was a process, and one I wasn't exactly prepared for. One year and 10 tubes of mascara later, I still haven't discovered a worthy replacement, but I have discovered some eye-opening (literally) things along the way.
If you're on the hunt for your own forever mascara, learn from my mistakes and read on for seven tips I picked up that'll help make your search easier than mine.
1. Take product reviews, testimonials, and suggestions from others with a grain of salt
Nothing will derail a meeting faster than telling a conference room full of beauty editors that you're looking for a new mascara. As soon as I casually mentioned it to my colleagues here at POPSUGAR, the suggestions came pouring in. And with plenty of impressive before-and-after photos to go off of, I had a running start.
But after trying the third tube that came highly recommended, I realized that what was working for my fellow mascara-lovers was definitely not working for me and I couldn't rely solely on word-of-mouth, popularity, or photos, no matter how jaw-dropping. Now, I do my own extensive research on a potential brand and product and remind myself to give every product a fair chance, whether or not it's been highly touted by others.
2. Don't write off a mascara after the first try
Whether it's the way you wield the wand, the passing of time, or even the formula's exposure to air, your second experience with a mascara can differ drastically from the first. When I first applied a popular mascara, I found that the formula weighed down my lashes and deflated the curl. A few weeks later, I decided to give the same mascara another try and was pleasantly surprised to see that somehow the formula held a curl much better the second time around. With every new tube, I now make a point to apply the product on at least three different occasions before formulating a definitive opinion on it.
3. Standard and waterproof formulas are different, even for the same mascara
The name and packaging may be the same (save for a small "waterproof" label), but that doesn't mean the formulas are. After interrogating my sister on how her lashes always look so amazing, she suggested I use her go-to mascara. After trying a tube for myself, I was disappointed to discover that what delivered long and thick lashes with an impressive curl on her fell completely flat on me.
The one small, but significant, detail? She uses the waterproof version. Sure enough, after swapping my standard formula for the waterproof one, my lashes held a curl for longer. If you think about it, standard mascara formulas need to be chemically altered to withstand water, so there's a high chance they're developed differently - which means they'll most likely interact with your lashes differently as a result.
4. Ensure everything else in your makeup routine stays consistent
Don't follow my lead and start experimenting with a new liquid liner at the same time that you're experimenting with a new mascara. Since your lashes can be affected by everything from the eyelash curler you use to the order in which you apply your products, you'll want to keep the makeup you're wearing around your eyes the same in order to quickly determine whether the mascara is right for you.
5. A coat is not created equal across mascaras
With my previous drugstore go-to, I was used to swiping on coat after coat after coat in rapid succession to achieve the mega volume I liked. Once I started wielding different wands, it quickly became clear that I needed to change up my application technique depending on the mascara. Sometimes all I needed was one lighthanded coat, while other times, the mascara called for three coats (along with drying time between each) to achieve the same effect.
6. Don't assume mascara will look the same once it dries
You'd think that the eyelashes you see in the mirror directly after applying mascara would be the same eyelashes you see an hour later, right? Not necessarily. After applying a new mascara for the first time, I was happy with the results. But a mere few moments later, I glanced in the mirror and was disappointed to discover my curl had completely deflated as the formula had dried.
7. It takes a lot of time, money, and patience
Patience is really the key word for me here. I'm not one to let beauty products go to waste, so over the course of the year, I found myself trying to finish a tube of mascara before moving on to the next one, even if I didn't love it (or even like it). But that just means that once I finally discover The One, I know I'll appreciate it that much more. After all, confidence-boosting lashes are worth it!

It's no secret that President Donald Trump is used to a certain kind of lifestyle. From weekly trips to Mar-a-Lago at $3.6 million a pop to a 17-day "working vacation" at his New Jersey golf club, it's also clear that he hasn't made any attempts to tamp down his jet-setting since taking office. But while bankrolling the gallivanting of a real estate developer or reality television star was Trump's prerogative before he took office, he's now reliant on the federal government and the taxpayers to foot the bill. To make matters worse, his entire family requires security protection when they travel. And like the president himself, none of them can stay still for very long. As a result, countless people have tried to slow the Trump family's roll - none of whom have found any sort of lasting success. That is, until now.
On Aug. 21, USA Today reported that the Secret Service budget had been depleted and "more than 1,000 agents have already hit the federally mandated caps for salary and overtime allowances that were meant to last the entire year." That's right: it's August, and the Trumps have officially maxed out the budget for their protection. While some of the weight can be shifted to the fact that Trump has 11 more people under protection than the previous administration did, it's hard to explain away some of the more egregious spends. Take, for example, "some $60,000 on golf cart rentals alone," the costs associated with Melania and Barron Trump spending the majority of this year living in the heart of Manhattan, or the fact that "Eric Trump's business travel to Uruguay cost the Secret Service nearly $100,000 just for hotel rooms."

The letter also expresses the fear that because of our anxiety, we are harder to love or unworthy of the sentiment. "I want you to know I see this is tough on you," she says. "Tough to see your loved one hurt. But don't think for a second she doesn't see you, don't think for a second she doesn't worry about you too. She even gets anxiety about you. She knows it's not your fault, and she knows you want to fix her and in the way that means help her, but you can't fix her. She's not broken."
But even though those suffering with anxiety certainly aren't "broken," there are things that our loved ones do that help in ways our significant others may never understand. From holding our hands and telling us you're there for us to allowing us to sit down and breathe when we need to, every gesture is felt and appreciated beyond words.
"Don't make her feel bad for missing an appointment, a party, whatever. She wanted to go, but she couldn't. She already feels bad. Tell her it's okay," says Laura.
Even if the anxiety-sufferer doesn't know what they need themselves, the letter continues, patience and love are what really matters. Anxiety is heartbreaking and all-consuming; there are good days, and then some days are really, really bad. But Laura and myself and so many others want their loved ones to know something very important:
"She appreciates you, she loves you. She's vulnerable and scared. But . . . she knew the day she met you that you were the one worthy enough to see her in all her imperfections. She will love you with that whole heart, and you know she will because she's already listed the pros and cons . . . and just as you are by her side she will be fiercely loyal to yours. Forever and ever, you just to need take her hand and tell her, 'I am with you.'"
For those who deal with anxiety, knowing someone is "with" us can be the thing that gets us through another day.

To Everyone Hoping For Twins, Be Careful What You Wish For
Dear Aspiring Parents,
First of all, thank you for your kind words and unsolicited advice when you see me with my girls. To save us all some time, let me quickly answer all your questions: Yes, twins run in my family (on my mom's side). Yes, I carried them to term. Yes, I exclusively breastfeed both of them (and no, not always at the same time). Yes, they are fraternal. Yes, I know that I have my hands full. No, I don't have round-the-clock help. And yes, I know exactly how lucky I am to have two healthy, beautiful little girls.
But the one thing that really gets me? When you tell me you wish you'd had twins or hope to someday have them. I usually can't help but laugh. Look, I get it. Twins are cute, sweet, and fun. And who doesn't love a good two-for-one deal? But at the same time, twins are not for the faint of heart, so let me tell you what you're actually hoping for.
For starters, being pregnant with twins is the absolute worst. That's coming from someone who isn't a habitual complainer and has a pretty high threshold for pain. (I mean, I get all of my dental work done sans anesthesia, so I'm pretty sure that counts as a high threshold.) And I had easy, uneventful pregnancies. That is, until I hit 30 weeks with the twins. That's when my body gave up. Discomfort is expected in the third trimester of any pregnancy, but that's not what I had. I was in constant pain. It hurt to walk and stand; sitting for an extended period of time was excruciating; and the mere thought of lying down made me cringe. I was so swollen that my legs were shiny and sore to the touch, and the top of my enormous bump felt like it was shredding me from the inside out. I gained 13 pounds of fluid in one week alone, and on delivery day, it took the anesthesiologist nine tries before she was able to find the right spot to administer my spinal because there was so much excess fluid. The amount of pain I was in also took away from the experience of welcoming my girls into the world. When my older daughter was born, her first cry literally took my breath away. With my twins, all I could focus on was the feeling of relief when they were finally out.
In spite of how painful that pregnancy was, it didn't escape me that I was one of the lucky ones. According to the March of Dimes, almost 60 percent of twins are born prematurely. My girls were full term, weighing in at 7 pounds each and perfectly healthy. More than half of mamas of twins aren't nearly as fortunate, and I counted my blessings as I left that hospital with both of my babies.
But then the terrifying reality of being home with a toddler and two newborns set in. Thankfully, my husband - who is a phenomenal, hands-on dad - was able to be home with us for the first two weeks and my parents came over with dinner almost every night for the first two months. But it was still tough. And now that we're finally clawing our way out of hibernation (gotta love having babies in the middle of an epic flu season), it's a whole new set of challenges - like going anywhere that doesn't have a drive-through. My first solo trip to Target quickly turned into a total sh*tshow when both babies started screaming. It ended with me singing, loudly, to keep my toddler happy while I sat in the dressing room breastfeeding both babies at the same time without my trusty nursing pillow. Side note: exactly three weeks after this trip, Jessica Alba made headlines for doing the exact same thing, but you won't. No one will care if you do it.
Other things no one will care about? Holding the door open for you as you navigate your bus of a stroller into Starbucks for some desperately needed coffee, making an appointment for one baby but being charged for two since they smiled at both of them, and personal space. But no, it's not all bad. One big perk is I've been invited to cut an awful lot of lines thanks to my overly full hands. I think you get my drift. It's awesome, but just hard. Really, really hard.
I'm hoping that the crazy settles as they get older and (hopefully) start to entertain each other. And if not, that's OK too, because I love the little traveling circus that our family has become, and I wouldn't have it any other way. But then again, I have a very, very high tolerance for what most find intolerable. So thank you for your kind words and advice, but now let me give you some advice: be careful what you wish for!

How to Talk to Your Kids - Even the Little Ones - About Gun Violence
Gun violence is nothing new in America, but devastating events like the Parkland school massacre can make it difficult to know how to talk to your children about it all. Gun violence isn't a child-friendly topic, but it's our job as parents to be open and honest with our kids, no matter their age. Hopefully in doing so, parents can assuage their child's fears while at the same time giving them the opportunity to process these terrifying occurrences. Here are some easy steps you can take when discussing gun violence.
- Tell them you'll do everything you can to keep them safe. First and foremost, children of all ages want to know they're safe. Do what you can to let them know that you'll do everything in your power to protect them. This comforting reassurance will go a long way toward making them feel better.
- Let them know they're safe at school. While even one school shooting is too many, let your kids know that they're still rare. With younger children, get them to focus on the fun things they do at school, retaining their love of education and association with school as a safe space. With older children, discuss the school's policies and talk through the procedures with them.
- Talk to them about gun safety. A conversation about gun violence is a great time to establish, or review, your family's gun-safety policy. Since many families keep guns in the house, the opportunity to be around guns for some kids is common. But regardless of whether you have a weapon, let your kids know that guns shouldn't be touched if found, and they should always find an adult who can determine the best thing to do.
- Have an active-shooter plan in place. Just like every family should have a gun-safety plan, they should also have an active-shooter plan. Stress to your children that in a dangerous situation, it's best to follow the directions of the adult in charge. If the child is for some reason alone in the event that something were to happen, encourage them to run and escape or seek shelter if that isn't possible.
- Allow them to ask questions. Children of all ages should be given a platform to ask questions. In responding, be as honest as their ages dictate, tapering your answers depending on their maturity level.
- Tailor your responses based off the child's age. Of course, the older the child, the more in depth this conversation could go. While you might not want to talk to a 4-year-old about the political ramification of stricter gun legislation, this might come up with a tween or teenager.
Jaw-Dropping Photos From a C-Section Birth
Jessica Bender is used to snapping pictures of children's birthdays, not their actual births. But when she was given the opportunity to capture a friend's C-section delivery, the Canadian photographer couldn't say no. Granted, she didn't have much of a choice. On the day of the procedure, Jessica received a call from mom-to-be Carly saying that her husband Nathan had to have emergency surgery and she needed Jessica to step into the support role.
"It was an odd feeling to be so excited that someone needed to have emergency surgery," Jessica writes in her blog. "I felt guilty for about 39 seconds." Stooped on a stool with a camera pressed to her face, Jessica waited for Elias to make his grand entrance. As Jessica eagerly watched doctors "cut open the midsection, layer by layer," Carly remained calm, cool, and collected.
"She has forever reframed what a C-section means to me," Jessica writes of her friend. "In the past, it was presented as something to fear, but seeing Carly meet her baby . . . there was zero fear."

Man "Proposes" to His Fiancée's Little Girl, Widespread Weeping Ensues

In what may be the sweetest proposal we've ever seen, a single mom who found the man of her dreams got a huge surprise when her boyfriend got down on one knee in the middle of a gorgeous nature preserve. However, Grant had an even bigger surprise in store - after he asked Cassandra to marry him (and she said yes!), he then got down in front of her young daughter, Adrianna, and asked the little girl if he could be her daddy.
Photographer Mandi Gilliland, who has been friends with Cassandra for years, popped out of hiding to capture both magical moments between the trio, and the photos are absolutely stunning.
"I saw Cassandra's journey from the very beginning as a single mom raising Adrianna on her own," Mandi told POPSUGAR. "Witnessing all of the trials she had to overcome was heartbreaking, yet encouraging. Of all the things she had to walk through, she never gave up hope that one day she would find a loving and positive father for her daughter. As soon as Cassandra met Grant, we all knew instantly that this one was going to be her ever after. Once Grant reached out to me and expressed what he wanted to do for Cassandra and Adrianna, I was beyond ecstatic!"
In a post to How He Asked, Cassandra described Grant's proposal to her as one of the best moments of her life but had so much more to say about his "proposal" to her daughter:
After proposing to me, Grant got back down to propose to my daughter. He said, "Adrianna, can I be your daddy, to promise to love and protect you for the rest of your life?" As soon as he spoke those sweet words, I once again broke down in tears. Not the cute kind of tears either, the bawling type tears. My little heart could not take so much love!
My daughter replied in complete shock, "Thank you!" (As she has always been raised to use her manners when given a gift.) Grant then asked her, "Is that a yes or no, sweetheart?" She replied, "YES!" and then screaming with joy she said, "I FINALLY GET A DADDY, MOMMY, I FINALLY GET A DADDY!" He presented her with a beautiful heart necklace as a symbol that she now carries a piece of his heart with her.
Mandi says that being there to witness the proposal coming together was "beyond emotional," to say the least. "I got to see one of my dearest friends and an innocent little girl finally get her dream come true of having a daddy and family," she said. "As much as Cassandra was crying, I was crying too, as I got to witness and capture one of the most special moments of their lives!"

You've Got to See This Mom's Amazing Reaction to Having a Baby Boy
Neely Ker-Fox of Ker-Fox Photography has photographed over 100 births over the past six years, but says she just photographed the best reaction to a birth from a mom, maybe ever, with Dara Crouch. As a Labor and Delivery nurse, Dara says that surprise gender births have always been her favorite, which is why she's left the gender of both her babies a total surprise. Despite the outcome being 50-50, there hadn't been a boy born on her side of the family in over 50 years (!), so she was pretty convinced she was destined to have another girl.
"My husband thought from the beginning that it was a boy. I was not so convinced. I had this weird connection to my daughter's clothes, and since their birthdays would only be three weeks apart, I knew I could reuse them," Dara told POPSUGAR. "It never really set in that this baby could be a boy until just a few minutes before he was born. I started freaking out because I had never been around a little boy and didn't know much about raising one. When my midwife, Melissa, held him up, I was in complete shock! It was a boy, and I lost it! I was so excited, and so in love! I couldn't imagine it being any other way!"
Neely also touched on how clear it is from the second a baby is born the unconditional love that she's then able to capture in her photos. "In my over 100 births I've photographed, I see all kinds of reactions. Some of the most heart-warming, soul stirring, tear-filled moments," she told POPSUGAR. "But when Dara looked over at me, and I captured this reaction knowing the innocent and very real worries we have when our second child comes into the world (boy or girl), I busted into tears behind the camera. All of that anxiety and worry vanished in blink of an eye. And no matter what we have, the love we have for our kids is instantaneous and overwhelms every cell in our bodies."

Some Parents Are Starting to Raise Gender-Neutral Children, and Yes, the Movement Is Picking Up Speed
When Bobby McCullough and Lesley Fleishman, a couple from Brooklyn, NY, agreed that they were going to raise their child as a "theyby" - an individual who's raised as neither a girl nor a boy specifically until the child is old enough to vocalize their own gender - it was only after a lot of careful consideration . . . and some social media research.
In fact, Bobby first came across the concept when he saw a news article about how a Canadian baby was issued a genderless birth certificate. The soon-to-be father joined a Facebook group that was dedicated to the theyby movement.
"But it was just the pronouns conversation. I mean, having a baby is already difficult, but then having to explain that to your grandma?"
He told New York Magazine that the gender-neutral parenting style aligned with how he and Lesley view gender constructs.
"This specific group really empowered the hell out of us to do this," he said. "[The Facebook page] was my favorite place to go on the internet. It was just like, 'Wow, there's something that we can do parenting-wise that completely goes with our value system.'"
Although Lesley was skeptical at first, she eventually came around to the idea and opted to raise their child, Sojourner Wildfire, without a set gender. And as far as pronouns go, Bobby and Lesley stuck with "they" and "them" when referring to Sojourner.
"As a concept, I was always like, 'Sure, this makes total sense,'" said Lesley. "But it was just the pronouns conversation. I mean, having a baby is already difficult, but then having to explain that to your grandma?"
While in the hospital delivering their new bundle of joy, they had strict instructions for the doctors and nurses to not announce a gender upon the baby's birth. "'At minimum, do not describe the anatomy or what you think the anatomy means when this baby's born.' We definitely wanted to prevent them being gendered in any intense moment. And everybody was aware of that."
The idea of raising a child as gender-neutral is a relatively new phenomenon, but more and more parents throughout the US are adopting the philosophy, of which the core belief is that gender is a social construct rather than a biological necessity.
What to Know Before Raising Your Child as Gender-Neutral
If you're considering going down this path with your own family, there a few things to know before diving into the lifestyle.
- You're going to have to talk to friends and family about pronouns. Raising a child gender-neutral means that you're going to have several conversations with everyone from your parents to your OB/GYN about your choice. If you're opting to use the pronouns "they" or "them" to describe your new baby, make that clear from the start. And don't forget: this concept of raising a child in a gender-neutral way is still fairly new, so don't be surprised if it takes your loved ones time to get used to using these specific pronouns.
- It's going to take some effort to steer clear of traditional clothing. As soon as people hear you're expecting, the avalanche of blue and pink clothing typically comes in droves, but thankfully, more companies that specialize in unisex baby clothes are popping up, which means more options for parents in the green, yellow, and gray color palettes.
- Toys don't technically have gender, despite what others may think. There have been numerous studies that have found that girls and boys tend to enjoy playing with toys that are created specifically for their gender, but when you're raising a gender-neutral child, those rules might not apply.
- Let your children embrace their individuality. According to science-based research, babies' brains have zero concept of gender. And what's more? There's no evidence of a specific male or female brain since gender norms are learned as children get older. For children who are being raised as gender-neutral, they may grow up to have a slew of different interests that are a combination of traditionally male or female hobbies - and that's OK.
- Even though you're raising your child to be gender-neutral, sexism still exists in the world. No, you won't have to have this conversation for a few years, but you'll certainly need to have it eventually. Gender-specific stereotypes are a real thing, and discussing them earlier rather than later with your child may bode well for their future.
An Expert Weighs In on Whether the Accessories You Use With Your Kid's Car Seat Are Safe
Figuring out how to assemble and install your new bundle of joy's car seat is probably one of the most challenging parenting gauntlets to navigate. But even after everything's in its rightful place, a few important questions still remain, like whether or not you can mix and match different car seat accessories from various manufacturers. Thankfully, Sarah Tilton, Britax's child passenger safety technician and immediate past chair of the National Child Passenger Safety Board, settled the debate once and for all.
Even though many moms have been told to avoid using anything on the car seat that didn't come with it originally, times are a-changing. "Years ago, this was clearly prohibited," she said. "In most recent years, many car seat manufacturers have started making accessories that are sold separately but are specifically tested and approved for their car seats, like Britax."
While this is good news for those looking for a dangling toy to keep their tot content or an insert to make the seat more comfortable, Sarah urges parents to check on the manufacturer's website before using the products with their kids.
"Some seat brands allow the use of another brand's accessories to be used with their car seat. Check with the car seat manufacturers to see if they make anything specific for their brand or if they allow something made by another company."
It might seem like a lot of legwork, but having safe accessories is critical in case you get into an accident.
"Any accessory could affect the performance of the car seat during a crash when they are made by a brand other than the car seat manufacturer," said Sarah. "When a car seat manufacturer approves use, that is an indication they have done testing and an evaluation of the item with their car seats. [It means the brand is] confident they do not negatively affect the crash performance of the car seat when used as per the instructions."
Sarah emphasized that even the most seemingly insignificant accessories should be double-checked - and that even includes car seat covers. "In the case of car seat covers, [they may] not meet flammability requirements, may not be correct dimensionally, and could interfere with harness fit or adjustment."
As for those cute toys designed to entertain your mini me while you're behind the wheel? The water is still pretty murky on whether or not they're completely safe. "It would be considered a case-by-case situation," she said. "It's the responsibility and right of the manufacturer to determine what can and cannot be used with its car seats. When I was certified as a technician in 2002, it was a fairly hard and fast rule that if it did not come in the box with your car seat, you could not use with your car seat. The industry has changed significantly regarding accessories over the years."
