Jennifer Lopez's Shades of Blue Is Ending, and We Don't Know How to Handle It

We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to share some devastating news: Shades of Blue is ending! Yes, you read that right. The NBC series' third season will be its last. The show, which stars Jennifer Lopez as Detective Harlee Santos and Ray Liotta as Lieutenant Matt Wozniak, will air its final 10 episodes starting with the season three premiere on June 17.

"I have enjoyed producing and starring in this beautifully complicated world and playing such an empowering yet flawed character - a woman, a detective, but, first and foremost, a mother," Lopez told The Hollywood Reporter. "Now looking at it with a little distance, playing Harlee strengthened me and helped me grow into a more self-assured woman. It's crazy how some parts permeate your soul and change you forever and for that I am grateful. We crafted a poetic three-season arc on how her journey ends, which is true redemption. The way only Harlee could have done it - the hard way, the road less traveled. I thank NBC and all the talented actors, writers, crew and producers for going on this journey with us!"

The reason for the sudden ending of the hit show: Lopez's demanding schedule. The 48-year-old star is in NBC's upcoming live musical Bye Bye Birdie, filming two movies, and serving as a judge on World of Dance, and that's on top of her Las Vegas residency. The show might be ending, but we will cherish every moment until it's over.

Will.i.am and Britney Spears Just Lost a 5-Year Legal Battle Over "Scream & Shout"

Will.i.am and Britney Spears officially have something to "Scream & Shout" about. For the past five years, the two stars have been embroiled in a legal battle over royalties for their hit 2013 song, and it all came to a head this week. As it turns out, Will.i.am wasn't the only writer of the popular track, and despite it being Spears's first number one hit in the UK in eight years when it topped the charts in 2013, she wasn't the original person tapped to sing it.

The first singer approached to sing on "Scream & Shout" was Tulisa Contostavlos, once a member of the group N-Dubz, who had 12 hit songs in the UK before splitting in 2011. She went on to be a judge on the UK version of The X Factor, where she was most famous for mentoring superstar girl group Little Mix.

Contostavlos went on to collaborate with Will.i.am during the writing process for "Scream & Shout," but she was never given a co-writing credit. Not only that, but she was the original choice for the vocals on the track long before Spears got the gig. Apparently the initial recording of the song with Contostavlos's vocals was done as a demo for her debut album The Female Boss, but her label decided not to include it in the final cut.

What's even more damning for Will.i.am and Spears is that a musicologist (yes, that's a real thing) has determined that Contostavlos's vocals are even mixed into the final version of "Scream & Shout," which seems to explain why Spears sings her lines in an English accent at one point. After successfully fighting the duo in a long legal battle, Contostavlos has now been awarded a co-writing credit, as well as 10 percent of everything the chart-topping song has made in its lifetime.

Tiffany Haddish stopped by The Tonight Show on Friday and dished to Jimmy Fallon about her pact with Brad Pitt. As the story goes, Tiffany was in an elevator with the 54-year-old actor earlier this year discussing her hopes for a longtime relationship one day when all of a sudden Brad turned to her and said, "If I'm single in a year, and you're single in a year, maybe we can get together and see what happens." Naturally, Tiffany freaked out, as one would. That is, until she "did some research" and discovered that Brad has "a gang of kids" with his estranged wife, Angelina Jolie. "I wanna be baby mama number one!" Tiffany joked. Amazon Is Coming For HBO's Throne With a Billion-Dollar Lord of the Rings TV Series

Amazon officially closed a deal to obtain rights for the Lord of the Rings franchise back in November, and the more we hear about it, the more insane(ly good) the new TV series sounds.

According to Deadline, the company paid $250 million to J.R.R. Tolkien's estate, publisher HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema to create a series set in Middle Earth in a bidding war with Netflix. The show will mark the first venture back into the fantasy world since 2014's The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Amazon has committed to five seasons, per The Hollywood Reporter, and the stories will reportedly precede the events depicted in the Lord of the Rings book series.

The terms of the deal also specified that Amazon must begin production on the series within two years, which is hopefully enough time to save up for how much the show is going to cost. Early reports suggest between casting, producers, and visual effects, it will likely shake out to over $1 billion. Do you know how much lembas that could buy you?!

The decision to pay such a large price for the rights to the story falls directly in line with Amazon's attempt to compete with HBO's high-fantasy juggernaut, Game of Thrones, which is on the brink of its eighth and final season. Sharon Tal Yguado, head of scripted series at Amazon Studios, said in an official statement, "The Lord of the Rings is a cultural phenomenon that has captured the imagination of generations of fans through literature and the big screen. We are honored to be working with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line on this exciting collaboration for television and are thrilled to be taking The Lord of the Rings fans on a new epic journey in Middle Earth."

Seeing as the TV series is still in early developmental stages, it will likely be a long time before the show premieres. But hey, Game of Thrones season eight isn't due until 2019. And though HBO is currently developing spinoff series, we imagine Amazon's epic fantasy entry won't be far behind.

Uh-Oh! Thanos Brings the War to Wakanda in This New Extended Trailer For Infinity War

Are you ready for Avengers: Infinity War? I hope so, because I can't take another one of these emotional trailers, you guys. The newest trailer, which you can watch below, features footage of a battle between the Avengers facing off against Thanos (Josh Brolin). It also appears this battle takes place in Wakanda, the technologically advanced African nation also known as the setting of the latest MCU film, Black Panther. In the clip, Okoye (Danai Gurira), the general of Black Panther's Dora Milaje, chides T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) for the chaos happening in their land.

"When you said we we're going to open Wakanda to the rest of the world, this was not what I imagined," she remarks, explaining that she expected them to host the Olympics or open a Starbucks instead. Among all of the rumors that Iron Man, Captain America, and Vision might perish by the time the credits roll, we needed that laugh.

As far as the other clips from the epic team-up flick are concerned, let's just say you're going to need every last bit of your strength to handle watching them. The film sees all of your favorite heroes - Captain America, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, the Hulk, Black Widow, Thor, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and more - joining forces to put an end to Thanos's wrath. Rejoice! Evan Peters Is Officially Returning For American Horror Story Season 8

As the old adage goes: new year, new . . . season of American Horror Story to obsess over. Now that we've crossed over into 2018, it's officially time to spread out our clues and try to figure out where the most unpredictable show on television will take us next. Previously, we thought we spotted a few clues near the end of AHS: Cult; perhaps, we thought, the next installment would take us to Butte, Montana. But the only thing better than a potential hint is concrete detail from the creator himself, Ryan Murphy. Luckily, the horror mastermind has already let slip a few spare tidbits about the show's eighth go-round. Let's review what we know so far.

1. The Cast

Sarah Paulson had already signed on way back in October 2017, making her the first member of the cast. But we'll do you one better. At this Winter's Television Critics Association panel, Murphy unleashed one major revelation. "Sarah Paulson is very excited about the dental appliances she will be wearing on the show," he teased. Good Lord, Mr. Murphy, what do you have bouncing around in your head this time around?

And then there's another AHS veteran who will return: Evan Peters. While there were concerns that Peters wouldn't return due to his involvement in Murphy's new show, Pose, his official casting, along with the return of his other American Horror Story: Cult costars Billy Eichner, Cheyenne Jackson, Adina Porter, and Leslie Grossman, was announced at an Emmy FYC panel in April. The gang's all here!

2. The Setting

While we don't have any confirmation about place or circumstances, Murphy did recently spill a pretty shocking secret about season eight: it takes place in the future! "All I'll say about it is I want to go to the future - still topical, but the future, which I've never done," he said.

Before you start envisioning a lot of chrome of a dystopian Hunger Games situation, we're not going too far forward. Murphy elaborated just a bit at the TCA panel: "It's set in the near future. It has nothing to do with anything you've ever seen before. It's really chilling."

3. The Premiere Date

While we don't have anything close to a confirmed premiere date, it's easy to guess that it might be in September. The first five seasons of AHS premiered in October, but Murphy changed the game with season six, Roanoke: it dropped on Sept. 14. Season seven, Cult followed suit with a Sept. 5 premiere. Logic would follow that season eight will drop in early September.

As further evidence, consider what Murphy told Vanity Fair about timing each season back in 2016: "Do I really want to be watching a horror show post-Thanksgiving when we get to Christmas? I really don't," he said. "I always watch that show live, and I really love it in the beginning when it's Fall, when it's Halloween, and before Thanksgiving. And then after that, I just don't want blood with my Christmas ornaments. I just don't." See you all in September, folks (probably).

News Flash: Asking Male Actors to Donate Their Salary Isn't Going to Fix Hollywood's Wage Gap

When news first got out about Netflix's plans to create a series that followed the life and early reign of Queen Elizabeth II, The Crown, I was impressed by the streaming service's decision to retell the story of one of the most influential women in history. As more details emerged, news that Netflix had tapped Matt Smith to portray a young Prince Philip made its way to the ears of some very happy Doctor Who fans. While I've only watched two episodes of Doctor Who, I'd witnessed (but never engaged in) many arguments about whether Matt Smith was indeed the best Doctor in the hit BBC show. Smith's face was plastered all over Hot Topic t-shirts, backpacks, and fan art - it was near-impossible to escape Smith's geeky stardom in the years of 2010 to 2014. That's why it was surprising, but exciting, to hear Smith was tackling a period drama role.

When I read that actress Claire Foy would be stepping into Queen Elizabeth II's sensible heels not long after, my first thought was, "Who's Claire Foy?" Although Foy has turned out to be one of TV's most critically acclaimed breakout stars of the last couple years, you have to admit that she basically came out of nowhere. Still, it didn't take long for the then-unknown actress to win over the hearts of viewers and critics alike, while simultaneously humanizing a public figure notoriously known for her privacy. Foy even picked up a few accolades along the way, including a Golden Globe and a Britannia Award in 2017. It was clear: a star was born, and that star was apparently paid less for her work than Smith.

"No One Gets Paid More Than the Queen"

During a recent panel discussion, one of the show's producers, Suzanne Mackie, revealed that Smith was indeed paid more than Foy in the first season of The Crown. She later noted it was a mistake that won't be repeated, saying, "Going forward, no one gets paid more than the queen." The news quickly went viral, and Left Bank pictures - which produces The Crown and is in charge of negotiating salaries - issued an apology to both stars for getting them involved in "a media storm" they never asked to be a part of. Despite Left Bank's admission, it's important to remember that the reasoning behind the difference in pay was that Smith had the success of Doctor Who on his résumé, while Foy was a relative unknown at the time of her casting. Fans and anyone who believes in fair wages were outraged, myself included. That was until I stepped back, took a deep breath, and googled Foy's IMDb page.

Though Foy's career dates back to 2008, the British actress wasn't involved in anything remotely as big as The Crown before being, well, crowned. What Mackie said had truth in it, but that didn't stop fans from drafting petitions demanding that Smith donate his salary to the Time's Up movement, something Mark Wahlberg volunteered to do after news broke the actor made eight times more than costar Michelle Williams for the reshoots of 2017's All the Money in the World (keep in mind she was one of the film's leads, while Wahlberg was in a much smaller supporting role).

While Smith has yet to comment on the wage discrepancy or whether he will donate his money, it's important for everyone to also take a second and really consider whether this is the answer to Hollywood's gender wage gap. To do so, you'll need to understand how exactly wages are negotiated in the entertainment industry.

Hollywood's Negotiation Problem

According to Natalie Robehmed, an associate editor at Forbes who covers media and entertainment, how much an actor makes is usually and historically based on the actor's quote, which is the amount of money they made in their last project. Agents will normally arrange that their client be paid no less than what they made previously. Agents will also sometimes negotiate that their client be paid more in a sequel if they can prove their client brought in a lot of revenue for that said franchise. Actors like Vin Diesel, for instance, might have the leverage to request more pay for a Fast and Furious movie given how crucial his role is to the successful series.

This tactic, however, is undergoing a major change - in fact, as of Jan. 1, a new set of guidelines added to the California Labor Code 432.3 now makes it illegal for agents to disclose a client's quote when negotiating salary for a project. Hollywood did this as a means to help wage discrepancies for women and people of color who have historically been underrepresented in TV and film.

"Some of the idea was to even the playing field a little bit," Robehmed told POPSUGAR. "Because there are simply fewer opportunities, and fewer big roles for [women and people of color], their quotes have historically been lower."

Since the new guidelines only went into effect in January, it's fair to assume that Foy's and Smith's agents disclosed the actors' quotes when negotiating their pay for The Crown since it was years earlier. If that's indeed what happened, it makes sense that Smith's pay would be higher than Foy's, who was reportedly paid $40,000 per episode (Smith's wages have yet to be disclosed with the public).

It wouldn't make sense, however, for Smith to donate his money. While, yes, Foy is Queen Elizabeth and ultimately the queen bee of the show, Smith shouldn't be penalized for having a successful career that awards him a higher salary. His money is also exactly that: his money. He is entitled to do with it whatever he wishes, and if that doesn't involve donating some of his salary to Time's Up, or any other movement, then that should be fine. Pressuring Smith to donate his money is a temporary and ineffective fix to a bigger issue at hand.

Instead of pressuring an actor to donate their wages, our attention should be focused on creating more roles for women and minorities.

We are paying attention to the wrong injustice here. The problem isn't necessarily the pay; it's the lack of roles for women and people of color in entertainment. Instead of pressuring an actor to donate their wages, our attention should be focused on creating more roles for women and minorities. This should particularly apply to lead roles in high-grossing, mainstream films, like superhero movies and action franchises.

Women Can Save Cities, Too

Oscar winner Emma Stone was the highest-paid actress in 2017, yet her $26 million per picture quote still comes in far, far behind Mark Wahlberg's $68 million (Wahlberg was the highest paid actor in 2017). Wahlberg's comparatively large paycheck can be credited to his work in the Transformers series. Right behind Wahlberg on the list of highest paid male actors is Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson at $65 million, who's starred in Hollywood action films like San Andreas, GI Joe, and the Fast and the Furious series, which Johnson has been a part of since 2011. Behind him? Diesel, at $54.5 million. Notice a pattern here?

"If there aren't roles that give these women high-paying opportunities, then they're going to make less than men," Robehman said. "Yes, there are still women making millions, but fewer of them, simply because there are fewer roles."

While yes, in retrospect, shows like The Crown are a step forward when it comes to telling female-led stories, they are not exempt to Hollywood's long history of salary discrepancies. This isn't the fault of the cast, but rather the content-makers themselves, especially when an actor might have little to no knowledge how much their coworkers make - in the case of The Crown, Left Bank Pictures is at fault, not Matt Smith. Like any other job, it's rare that people (yes, even celebrities) talk openly about their salaries. Actors aren't immune to being uncomfortable or even embarrassed of having something as personal as their income so widely debated. Foy did understandably tell Entertainment Weekly she was surprised to have been in the center of such a heated story.

"I know that Matt feels the same that I do, " Foy said. "That it's odd to find yourself at the center [of a story] that you didn't particularly ask for."

While movements like Time's Up are making it easier for women to come forward about pay disparities, they are only truly effective when people offer their information and help voluntarily, not when they are pressured to do so. Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer's recent brush with pay disparity is a great example. After discussing the widely unknown wage gap between white women and women of color, Jessica negotiated that Octavia be paid the same as her in her next project, which was five times more than what the actress was making. This win originated from a conversation both women were comfortable having, and an eagerness to work together. No pressure needed.

Foy doesn't need saving, just like Queen Elizabeth II didn't need Prince Philip to be her knight in shining armor. What women and minorities in Hollywood need is for movie and TV executives to realize that tentpole projects don't need to be led exclusively by straight, buff men. Wonder Woman and Black Panther are proof. Once more stories like those start being told, the positive effects will trickle down to prestige dramas like The Crown and beyond. Then, and only then, will the queen finally get what she's owed.

Jennie Garth and her husband, Dave Abrams, are over. On Friday, Dave filed for divorce from the former Beverly Hills, 90210 actress citing "irreconcilable differences," People reports. According to court documents, the ex-couple has been separated since August 2017. 2012

William and Kate's first wedding anniversary could not have been more different from their big day, which was watched by an estimated 2 billion people around the world. They woke up on April 29, 2012, in a pub. After the wedding of Kate's school friend Hannah Gillingham on the 28th, the bride booked local pub The Crown in Westleton, Suffolk for all her friends, and William and Kate turned up at 1 a.m. on the 29th with the other guests. They all drank champagne together before the royal couple headed to the Swan Room, which has a four-poster bed and roll-top bath. In the morning they joined the others for bacon and eggs before heading back to Anglesey. It was reported Kate was going to cook fish en papillote - in parchment - to mark the first anniversary being paper.

2013

Kate was six months pregnant with Prince George, and she and William actually spent the day apart because of William's flying duties. On the day, Kate visited the children's hospice Naomi House in Hampshire, where she met with bereaved families and had tea with the siblings of children who were being cared for at the facility. She and William did celebrate their anniversary a few days beforehand however, with dinner in London.

2014

Their press officer confirmed at the time that they were spending the day privately, but it's likely they - and their 9-month-old son - were suffering from jet-lag as they had only flown back from their tour of Australia and New Zealand three days previously. While they were in Australia, Kate revealed that it took Prince George three days to get over his jet-lag on their way out.

2015

Kate was around a week overdue with Princess Charlotte - she gave birth just three days later - so she and William spent most of the day quietly at home in Kensington Palace. However, it was reported at the time that the couple went for a swim together at the Buckingham Palace pool - one of Kate's favorite activities during her second pregnancy.

2016

William and Kate spent the day privately with Prince George and - for the first time - Princess Charlotte, as they had not long returned from their tour of India and Bhutan and had been apart from their children for a week. The couple also released a new previously unseen picture of them smiling in a garden together which was sent to those who wrote to wish them a happy anniversary.

2017

After stepping out for the London Marathon with Prince Harry a few days before, William and Kate rang in their anniversary privately. Kensington Royal shared an Instagram photo from their wedding to commemorate the milestone, writing, "Thank you so much for all the lovely messages wishing The Duke and Duchess a happy sixth wedding anniversary."

Kellyanne Conway Claims the White House Never Talks About Hillary Clinton - Sure, Jan

In news that is hardly believable, Kellyanne Conway is claiming the White House doesn't talk about Hillary Clinton much following the 2016 Election.

The Counselor to the President recently appeared on CNN with Chris Cuomo to discuss the ongoing FBI investigation into potential collusion between Donald Trump's campaign and Russian officials. While denying possible collusion, Conway said, "We beat her fairly and squarely in this country through this democratic elective process. Look, so many people still can't get over the election results."

As Cuomo laughed it off and insisted that the Trump administration is still obsessing over the election and Clinton, Conway said, "I'll make you a deal, Chris: I'll never talk about her again but then you can't talk about the 2016 Election because she lost that election." Adding, "We don't care about her. Nobody here talks about her. Nobody here talks about Hillary Clinton, I promise you."

Not only is Conway's claim a generalization of epic proportions, it's also flat-out untrue. In fact, just a few days before her interview, the president had tweeted about Clinton while slamming Michael Wolff's Fire and Fury. He again tweeted about Clinton on the morning of Jan. 11, the day after Conway's interview.

This Vintage City Hall Wedding Proves Intimate Ceremonies Can Be Even More Romantic

San Francisco is where Kimia and Dominic met and eventually married four years later. The groom drove cross-country to begin a new life in California, starting his new job just a few days in. That's where he met his future wife, whom he finally asked out to dinner at a Burmese restaurant after mustering up enough courage.

Dominic was first drawn to Kimia when he found out she was an artist. They discussed art and life on their date, and one day, she asked if he wanted to come with her to drop off some paintings north of the city. This soon became a routine of theirs, with each trip becoming more enjoyable and exciting. As they got closer over the course of several months, they became inseparable.

"It's hard for me to remember life before her; it's also hard to believe how wonderful everything has worked out," Dominic said.

Fast forward a few years later, and the two were engaged. They decided on an intimate ceremony in the gorgeous San Francisco City Hall with just a few family members by their side. Kimia found a beautiful dress with personality at a vintage shop in Los Gatos, CA, while Dominic found the exact gray suit he was envisioning at a tailor in San Francisco. The ribbon wrapping the bride's bouquet belongs to the groom's grandmother and has been worn by all the women in the family.

The newlyweds then purchased their first home, which just so happened to be a few blocks from the restaurant where they had their first dinner.

I Spoke Up About My Sexual-Harasser Boss

When I was in my early 20s, I worked at a magazine - and my boss sucked. This guy came in late, left early, and spent the day achieving impressive feats of laziness. Despite his utter lack of productivity, he demanded a lot of his employees and attempted to motivate us with tales of how hard he used to work when he was younger, describing the "pyramids of empty Pepsi cans" he used to fuel his late nights. He was incredibly annoying and, turns out, kind of a creep.

My boss - let's call him Doug - was in his mid-30s and managed a very junior team, all of us in our 20s. Under Doug, we were fairly isolated from other managers or mentors, and we kept our complaints about our boss within our little group. Over time, I started spending more time with my peers at happy hours and became close friends with one woman in particular, who confided in me that our lazy boss had made a pass at her.

She hadn't reported it, she said, because the incident was more gray area than black and white - as most cases of sexual harassment are. For one thing, the harassment took place after work hours and several drinks. The team had attended a happy hour that lasted long past happy hour, and Doug insisted on walking her home from the bar and hitting on her relentlessly along the way - even going so far as to press her up against a wall and attempt to kiss her. Though he had a pregnant wife at home, he was determined to persuade my friend to let him come home with her. When they arrived at her apartment, Doug tried to come inside and, when rebuffed, lingered outside her building for an uncomfortable amount of time. (Note: some details of this story have been omitted to protect privacy.)

I was horrified. I wanted to help her and prevent Doug from doing this to someone else. But the incident had taken place maybe six months before, and she was ready to move past it. She lacked a female mentor at work who she could have gone to for advice, and being inexperienced myself, I kept quiet about her story but also never forgot it.

Shortly after she had told me her story, she and another coworker went public about the fact that they were dating. She and her new boyfriend (they're actually married now) had Doug as a boss, and the moment their relationship was out in the open, something switched in Doug. He grew more reserved and removed from office socializing. He let his hair and facial hair grow long and unkempt. It was like his fear that my friend might tell or had told her boyfriend this secret was eating at him from the inside.

Not long after all this, I was promoted, so Doug was no longer my manager. My new boss, a wonderful man who is still a friend and mentor to me today, pulled me into his office one day and said, "tell me the truth. How much does everyone on that team hate Doug?" I felt a wave of relief come over me and proceeded to list my grievances about his terrible management and laziness. Though I withheld the details of my friend's experience, I also told my new boss that I'd heard accounts of incredibly inappropriate behavior toward a young woman at the company. He nodded his head, as if I was confirming suspicions he'd had for a while.

Not long after, Doug was let go. Technically, his position was "eliminated," which meant no one had to address his performance issues or the sexual harassment accusations. But all that mattered to me at that point was that he was gone and could no longer get away with being such an incompetent creep.

Nearly 12 years later, I'm still grateful to that boss who invited me to speak out about Doug and listened. I often joke that I'm good at keeping secrets but also very good at giving unsolicited advice. I won't share a secret that someone doesn't want shared, but I will advise them on how to deal with the issue, even if they don't want my help dealing with it.

That philosophy has carried over into how I behave as a manager. I try to be the type of manager who people feel comfortable coming to about anything, even if it's uncomfortable. My experience with Doug also made me realize the importance of having professional mentors who are women, because as the #MeToo campaign has proven, pretty much all women understand that sexual harassment is pervasive. The next step is getting all of us more comfortable with speaking up when it happens.

Ivanka Trump opened up in an interview on Fox and Friends about what it's been like to work in Washington since her father took office, and the internet couldn't help but roast her. A Woman's Heartbreaking Words to Her Husband About the "Choke Hold" Anxiety Has

"You know how she can't understand when she asks, 'What are you thinking?' Why you would respond with 'Nothing.' It's because she never thinks . . . nothing. Her thoughts replay like a freight train in her head full steam ahead, over and over. It's exhausting for her. It's why she's tired."

When I read these words, they rang especially true for me. Anxiety is my very harsh reality, and so many struggle with it daily. A woman named Laura shared a Facebook post on the Love What Matters page - a letter dedicated "to the man whose wife or partner has anxiety."

Anyone who suffers with anxiety can relate to her words, as she describes what living with mental illness is like and how grateful she is to her partner for being there for her.

"You might have heard that she has anxiety from sitting by her side in a doctor's office, holding her hands while the tears stream down her face. You might have seen her get angry and explode because she's overwhelmed. Wondering where this rage has come from.

You might have seen her sit quietly staring into the distance with panic in her eyes. You might have guessed, or she might have told you, but either way there are things you should know.

Anxiety isn't a one size fits all, it isn't consistent and it isn't always easy to tell. You might think she just snapped at you, but it was anxiety that did it, you might think she's angry, but it's the anxiety that's got a choke hold, you might think she's not enjoying herself when you go out and it's your fault, but it's not. It's anxiety."

The "letter" describes the worst-case scenarios that fly through the minds each day of people dealing with anxiety, thinking of all that could possibly go wrong and worrying about what we will do if it does. The letter also expresses the fear that because of our anxiety, we are harder to love or unworthy of the sentiment. "I want you to know I see this is tough on you," she says. "Tough to see your loved one hurt. But don't think for a second she doesn't see you, don't think for a second she doesn't worry about you too. She even gets anxiety about you. She knows it's not your fault, and she knows you want to fix her and in the way that means help her, but you can't fix her. She's not broken."

But even though those suffering with anxiety certainly aren't "broken," there are things that our loved ones do that help in ways our significant others may never understand. From holding our hands and telling us you're there for us to allowing us to sit down and breathe when we need to, every gesture is felt and appreciated beyond words.

"Don't make her feel bad for missing an appointment, a party, whatever. She wanted to go, but she couldn't. She already feels bad. Tell her it's okay," says Laura.

Even if the anxiety-sufferer doesn't know what they need themselves, the letter continues, patience and love are what really matters. Anxiety is heartbreaking and all-consuming; there are good days, and then some days are really, really bad. But Laura and myself and so many others want their loved ones to know something very important:

"She appreciates you, she loves you. She's vulnerable and scared. But . . . she knew the day she met you that you were the one worthy enough to see her in all her imperfections. She will love you with that whole heart, and you know she will because she's already listed the pros and cons . . . and just as you are by her side she will be fiercely loyal to yours. Forever and ever, you just to need take her hand and tell her, 'I am with you.'"

I've Spent a Year Searching For My Forever Mascara - Here's Everything I Learned

Up until a year ago, I had been wearing the same drugstore mascara that I discovered in high school. I purchased tube after tube for over a decade, trusting the formula to make my stick-straight Asian eyelashes look long, thick, and, most importantly, dramatically curled. Accompanied by a good dose of eyeliner along my top and bottom lash line, the mascara looked fantastic. I had no complaints.

But when I hit my mid-20s, my approach to makeup shifted - I grew more comfortable and confident in my own skin and started to appreciate a less-is-more beauty look. As someone who previously balked at the thought of leaving the house without wearing a full face of makeup, I found myself going out more and more frequently with just my lashes and eyebrows done. And I soon discovered that without the buffer of eyeliner, my previously trusty mascara would end up tragically transferred onto my lower lash line (where I would normally apply eyeliner) by the end of the day.

Disappointed, I set out to find a new everyday mascara - one that would still hold an aggressive curl, minus the raccoon eyes. Little did I know, it was a process, and one I wasn't exactly prepared for. One year and 10 tubes of mascara later, I still haven't discovered a worthy replacement, but I have discovered some eye-opening (literally) things along the way.

If you're on the hunt for your own forever mascara, learn from my mistakes and read on for seven tips I picked up that'll help make your search easier than mine.


1. Take product reviews, testimonials, and suggestions from others with a grain of salt

Nothing will derail a meeting faster than telling a conference room full of beauty editors that you're looking for a new mascara. As soon as I casually mentioned it to my colleagues here at POPSUGAR, the suggestions came pouring in. And with plenty of impressive before-and-after photos to go off of, I had a running start.

But after trying the third tube that came highly recommended, I realized that what was working for my fellow mascara-lovers was definitely not working for me and I couldn't rely solely on word-of-mouth, popularity, or photos, no matter how jaw-dropping. Now, I do my own extensive research on a potential brand and product and remind myself to give every product a fair chance, whether or not it's been highly touted by others.

2. Don't write off a mascara after the first try

Whether it's the way you wield the wand, the passing of time, or even the formula's exposure to air, your second experience with a mascara can differ drastically from the first. When I first applied a popular mascara, I found that the formula weighed down my lashes and deflated the curl. A few weeks later, I decided to give the same mascara another try and was pleasantly surprised to see that somehow the formula held a curl much better the second time around. With every new tube, I now make a point to apply the product on at least three different occasions before formulating a definitive opinion on it.

3. Standard and waterproof formulas are different, even for the same mascara

The name and packaging may be the same (save for a small "waterproof" label), but that doesn't mean the formulas are. After interrogating my sister on how her lashes always look so amazing, she suggested I use her go-to mascara. After trying a tube for myself, I was disappointed to discover that what delivered long and thick lashes with an impressive curl on her fell completely flat on me.

The one small, but significant, detail? She uses the waterproof version. Sure enough, after swapping my standard formula for the waterproof one, my lashes held a curl for longer. If you think about it, standard mascara formulas need to be chemically altered to withstand water, so there's a high chance they're developed differently - which means they'll most likely interact with your lashes differently as a result.

4. Ensure everything else in your makeup routine stays consistent

Don't follow my lead and start experimenting with a new liquid liner at the same time that you're experimenting with a new mascara. Since your lashes can be affected by everything from the eyelash curler you use to the order in which you apply your products, you'll want to keep the makeup you're wearing around your eyes the same in order to quickly determine whether the mascara is right for you.

5. A coat is not created equal across mascaras

With my previous drugstore go-to, I was used to swiping on coat after coat after coat in rapid succession to achieve the mega volume I liked. Once I started wielding different wands, it quickly became clear that I needed to change up my application technique depending on the mascara. Sometimes all I needed was one lighthanded coat, while other times, the mascara called for three coats (along with drying time between each) to achieve the same effect.

6. Don't assume mascara will look the same once it dries

You'd think that the eyelashes you see in the mirror directly after applying mascara would be the same eyelashes you see an hour later, right? Not necessarily. After applying a new mascara for the first time, I was happy with the results. But a mere few moments later, I glanced in the mirror and was disappointed to discover my curl had completely deflated as the formula had dried.

7. It takes a lot of time, money, and patience

Patience is really the key word for me here. I'm not one to let beauty products go to waste, so over the course of the year, I found myself trying to finish a tube of mascara before moving on to the next one, even if I didn't love it (or even like it). But that just means that once I finally discover The One, I know I'll appreciate it that much more. After all, confidence-boosting lashes are worth it!
