The Weightlifting Technique That Will Change Your Body
Ever plan to go to the gym and stop dead in your tracks because you just don't know what to do? Maybe your goals are too broad? Maybe you're expecting too much? How can you really lose weight, gain lean muscle, and build your dream body with just one simple workout plan that doesn't require you move into the gym for the next year? Clearly, you're expecting too much from your efforts, right? Wrong! There is a way to reshape your body by losing fat and gaining muscle without spending countless hours in the gym. What do you have to do? Lift heavy weights to create lean muscle and lift light weights to promote fat loss. The best part? You can be in and out of the gym in less than 30 minutes each day. Here's how!
The heavy and light strength-training plan combines a couple of the most fundamental principles of lifting weights. The intention is to do an exercise for four sets with a heavy weight and low reps (up to six) and then another exercise that targets the same muscle for four more sets with higher reps (up to 12), but with a lighter weight. According to personal trainer Brian Pankau, CPT, you need to take "two to three minutes of rest between heavy [sets], and 45 to 60 seconds between lighter sets."
How does this plan work? When you lift heavy weights your muscles fatigue and ultimately grow (you won't look like a bodybuilder - we promise). From there, you work the same muscles with lighter weights to totally exhaust them, which burns more calories, creates a leaner body composition, and increases endurance. Muscles grow, body fat decreases, and you're only doing two exercises per body part. According to Anthony J. Yeung, CSCS, with this plan, "you'll burn more calories, shed fat, add more strength, and feel more energetic in daily life."
As a result of this significant caloric depletion, certified personal trainer and owner of HitchFit.com Micah Lacerte cautions that, "Nutrition will play a big role in what sort of results someone will get performing this plan, but if they are on [the proper type of diet], then this style of training will be excellent for building lean muscle." You have to make the effort to eat six small meals each day that all include some form of protein - with specific care to ensure you're getting protein before and after you work out.
While this plan can definitely work, it may not be for everyone. Pankau believes that while "fat loss is going to occur, [it may] not be fast enough for somebody with too much excess fat, so this plan is great for light and medium builds, but not really meant for heavier-set people."
What does this mean for you? For tight and toned triceps, a good combo would be overhead triceps extensions with a heavy weight and triceps kickbacks with lighter weights. For leaner, more sculpted legs, do leg presses with a heavy weight, and lunges with light dumbbells at your sides, or no added weights at all! For stronger, tighter biceps, heavy hammer curls and light preacher curls. The key is to do two moves per body part, one heavy, one light as described above. This will exhaust your muscles, promoting growth while leaning out your body. If you're in average shape, you can look way above average in less time. If you're in good shape, you may want to move to a beachfront property soon. Enjoy!

The Biggest Myths About Being a Vegan Lifter You Need to Stop Believing
When people think of weightlifters, they usually envision steroid-using, superjacked bros who down chicken breasts and cans of tuna every hour, on the hour. And while protein and weightlifting do go hand in hand, the idea that you have to eat animal protein in order to see progress in the gym and muscle gains is simply outdated.
With high-profile athletes such as NBA star Kyrie Irving and tennis pro Venus Williams following a vegan diet, it is possible to eschew animal products and still be at the top of your fitness game, especially if you're lifting weights. Here are some of the biggest myths people have about vegan weightlifters.
You Won't Eat Enough Protein
It's true that animal products have a high concentration of protein. After all, one cup of diced chicken breast boasts 43 grams of it. But it is possible to get enough of this important macronutrient while eating vegan.
"The biggest misconception is that you can't get enough protein on a plant-based diet," said Hunter Healy, ACE. "Legumes, tofu, and nut butter are all fantastic ways to meet the protein demands of weight training."
Loading up on other protein-rich vegan foods such as lentils, quinoa, amaranth, and veggie burgers are all excellent ways to get your protein fill for the day. And although animal proteins are a complete protein, meaning they contain all nine essential amino acids that your body can't produce on its own - your body uses amino acids to build and repair tissue - it is possible to get all of the essential amino acids with a plant-based diet. Soy is the only vegan complete protein, but you can get all nine essential amino acids through food combinations. Jim White, RD, ACSM, and owner of Jim White Nutrition and Fitness Studios, recommends beans and rice, peanut butter and whole-grain bread, or hummus with pita bread.
You'll Need to Take Supplements
Along with the misconception that you're not eating enough protein, people assume they'll need to load up on vegan protein powders and other supplements to achieve their fitness goals.
"One of the myths that I frequently hear is that those who lift weights need to consume protein powder and special supplements in order to build muscle. This is not necessarily the case," said Christen Cupples Cooper, EdD., RD, director of nutrition and dietetics at Pace University. Although adding a vegan protein powder to your diet is a great way to get a boost of protein, it's not necessary; Dr. Cooper explained that it's totally doable to eat enough plant-based, protein-rich foods in your diet and not rely on something out of a tub.
You Won't Build Muscle
With the assumed lack of protein, people often think that it's near impossible to build muscle on a vegan diet. But if Venus Williams's sculpted physique is any indication, this is completely false.
"To increase muscle mass in combination with physical activity, it is recommended that a person that strength and endurance trains regularly eat a range of 0.5 to 0.8 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight," White explained. So a 150-pound person should eat 75-120 grams of protein a day.
That may seem like a lot, but he recommends one way to get your fill of protein for the day is by eating five or six small meals. And be sure your meals also include a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and plenty of water for total-body health. In addition to protein, White also recommends that more than half of your calories each day should come from quality carbs, such as whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and legumes, to fuel your muscles.
You Won't Have Enough Energy For Your Workouts
For some people, the idea of a vegan diet is synonymous with deprivation; people assume you'll be eating less and be constantly tired and lethargic. When it comes to eating plant-based, however, this couldn't be further from the truth.
"The power for workouts generally comes from carbohydrates and fats, not from protein," explained Amy Shapiro, MS, RD, and founder of Real Nutrition. "Grains, fruits, vegetables, oils, and nuts all contain carbs and fat. Protein is needed for muscle growth and repair but not for power or performance." If you're eating a diet rich in complex carbs and healthy fats, you should have more than enough energy to power through your sweat session.
You'll Miss Out on Important Nutrients
It's true that meat is an important source of iron, B vitamins, and zinc, all of which can help you perform and recover. And Shapiro explains that some vegans may have a tough time getting their fill of iron since plant-based iron isn't absorbed as well as animal-based iron. But she says that loading up on iron-rich foods such as raisins, fortified cereals and breads, beans, lentils, soybeans, and leafy green vegetables, as well as taking an iron supplement if you need it, should help.
Some good vegan sources of B vitamins include nutritional yeast, wheat germ, tahini beans, bananas, peanut butter, and flax, while zinc can be found in beans, legumes, nuts, and seeds.
Just because you've given up animal products doesn't mean you need to abandon your weightlifting efforts. If anything, you'll have more energy and less chronic disease than your meat-eating peers.

I Actually Gained Weight From Eating a Salad Every Day - All Because of This Mistake
I thought eating a big-ass salad made for the healthiest lunch ever. So I'd meal-prep five salads for the week, pile the veggies into a bowl, add a few more nutritious toppings, and chow down. Salads are supposed to be low in calories - perfect for weight loss. The only problem was, I was actually gaining weight.
How do you gain weight eating veggies, you ask? Well, I thought variety was the key to health, so my bowl mas made up of at least 12 different ingredients, none of which were measured. But when I got a food scale, measured out each ingredient, and plugged everything into MyFitnessPal, I almost dropped my salad bowl in disbelief. This was the nutritional breakdown:
| Ingredient | Calories | Fat | Carbs | Protein |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 grams massaged kale (about 1 cup) | 25 | 5 | 0 | 2 |
| 50 grams cucumber (about 1/4 cup) | 8 | 2 | 0 | .5 |
| 50 grams carrots (about 4 baby) | 20 | 5 | 0 | 0 |
| 50 grams red bell peppers (about 1/4 cup) | 16 | 3 | 0 | 0 |
| 50 grams yellow bell peppers (about 1/4 cup) | 14 | 3 | 0 | 1 |
| 50 grams celery (about 1 large stalk) | 8 | 2 | 0 | 1 |
| 6 cherry tomatoes | 14 | 0 | 3 | 0 |
| 6 grapes | 21 | 0 | 6 | 0 |
| 50 grams red cabbage | 16 | 0 | 4 | 1 |
| Trader Joe's marinated tofu (1 piece) | 160 | 9 | 4 | 16 |
| 100 grams diced roasted sweet potato (about 3/4 cup) | 90 | .2 | 20.8 | 2 |
| 1/2 cup cooked quinoa | 111 | 2 | 20 | 4 |
| 1/4 cup chickpeas | 65 | 1 | 11 | 4 |
| 1/2 avocado | 117 | 11 | 6 | 1 |
| 1 tbsp salted sunflower seeds | 99 | 9 | 4 | 3 |
| 2 tbsp Goddess Dressing | 120 | 12 | 2 | 2 |
| Total: | 904 | 64.2 | 80.8 | 37.5 |
I couldn't believe it. 904 calories? And that's not even counting the oil I used to roast the diced sweet potatoes. Or the handful of sunflower seeds I crunched on while measuring a tablespoon for my salad. No wonder I was gaining weight! I was practically eating two meals in one sitting.
I know all the hacks to make a salad healthy, but I was making the mistake of simply putting too much into my bowl. This just proves that eyeballing isn't the best tactic, even if you're eating healthy foods. My lunch was definitely packed with nutritious ingredients, but it was way too packed.
The Fix
Knowing is half the battle, so now that I knew why I was gaining weight, I could do something about it. I continued to use MyFitnessPal and my food scale, and I just cut some of the ingredients down. In fact, I cut a few out completely. I skipped the quinoa and red pepper, used 1/4 of an avocado, one tablespoon of a lower-calorie dressing, and half the amount of sweet potatoes. I was able to get my salad bowl to just under 500 calories. Since I do intermittent fasting and only eat from noon until 7 p.m. each day, I was happy with this amount.
Learn from my mistake and take this into consideration when meal prepping all your meals and snacks. Measure out your ingredients so you know exactly how much your daily food is adding up to. If you're struggling to lose weight, this could be the one simple thing that pushes the needle!
This Star Wars Art Will Make You Wonder Why Disney Princesses Don't Carry Lightsabers
You're not over seeing amazing Disney/Star Wars mashup art yet, right? Good, because we found some new ones that have us senselessly fangirling all over again.
Illustrator Phill Berry recently shared his take on the Disney princesses as Star Wars characters, wherein they're rugged, lightsaber-wielding Jedi badasses.
Featuring Ariel, Jasmine, Rapunzel, and Belle - for now - the illustrations also include the princesses' respective sidekicks! For example, Ariel is shown with a hovering drone that is meant to resemble Flounder, and Belle is accompanied by her beau, the Beast - who in the Star Wars universe is most likely a Wookiee.
See the incredible illustrations that are kind of making us wish they cast Jasmine in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Kellyanne Conway Claims the White House Never Talks About Hillary Clinton - Sure, Jan
In news that is hardly believable, Kellyanne Conway is claiming the White House doesn't talk about Hillary Clinton much following the 2016 Election.
The Counselor to the President recently appeared on CNN with Chris Cuomo to discuss the ongoing FBI investigation into potential collusion between Donald Trump's campaign and Russian officials. While denying possible collusion, Conway said, "We beat her fairly and squarely in this country through this democratic elective process. Look, so many people still can't get over the election results."
As Cuomo laughed it off and insisted that the Trump administration is still obsessing over the election and Clinton, Conway said, "I'll make you a deal, Chris: I'll never talk about her again but then you can't talk about the 2016 Election because she lost that election." Adding, "We don't care about her. Nobody here talks about her. Nobody here talks about Hillary Clinton, I promise you."
Kellyanne Conway claimed "nobody here talks about Hillary Clinton" despite the fact that President Trump mentioned her at least 3 times earlier today #CuomoPrimeTime https://t.co/sGNQfZyNRt
- Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) January 11, 2018
Not only is Conway's claim a generalization of epic proportions, it's also flat-out untrue. In fact, just a few days before her interview, the president had tweeted about Clinton while slamming Michael Wolff's Fire and Fury. He again tweeted about Clinton on the morning of Jan. 11, the day after Conway's interview.
This Vintage City Hall Wedding Proves Intimate Ceremonies Can Be Even More Romantic
San Francisco is where Kimia and Dominic met and eventually married four years later. The groom drove cross-country to begin a new life in California, starting his new job just a few days in. That's where he met his future wife, whom he finally asked out to dinner at a Burmese restaurant after mustering up enough courage.
Dominic was first drawn to Kimia when he found out she was an artist. They discussed art and life on their date, and one day, she asked if he wanted to come with her to drop off some paintings north of the city. This soon became a routine of theirs, with each trip becoming more enjoyable and exciting. As they got closer over the course of several months, they became inseparable.
"It's hard for me to remember life before her; it's also hard to believe how wonderful everything has worked out," Dominic said.
Fast forward a few years later, and the two were engaged. They decided on an intimate ceremony in the gorgeous San Francisco City Hall with just a few family members by their side. Kimia found a beautiful dress with personality at a vintage shop in Los Gatos, CA, while Dominic found the exact gray suit he was envisioning at a tailor in San Francisco. The ribbon wrapping the bride's bouquet belongs to the groom's grandmother and has been worn by all the women in the family.
The newlyweds then purchased their first home, which just so happened to be a few blocks from the restaurant where they had their first dinner.

I Spoke Up About My Sexual-Harasser Boss
When I was in my early 20s, I worked at a magazine - and my boss sucked. This guy came in late, left early, and spent the day achieving impressive feats of laziness. Despite his utter lack of productivity, he demanded a lot of his employees and attempted to motivate us with tales of how hard he used to work when he was younger, describing the "pyramids of empty Pepsi cans" he used to fuel his late nights. He was incredibly annoying and, turns out, kind of a creep.
My boss - let's call him Doug - was in his mid-30s and managed a very junior team, all of us in our 20s. Under Doug, we were fairly isolated from other managers or mentors, and we kept our complaints about our boss within our little group. Over time, I started spending more time with my peers at happy hours and became close friends with one woman in particular, who confided in me that our lazy boss had made a pass at her.
She hadn't reported it, she said, because the incident was more gray area than black and white - as most cases of sexual harassment are. For one thing, the harassment took place after work hours and several drinks. The team had attended a happy hour that lasted long past happy hour, and Doug insisted on walking her home from the bar and hitting on her relentlessly along the way - even going so far as to press her up against a wall and attempt to kiss her. Though he had a pregnant wife at home, he was determined to persuade my friend to let him come home with her. When they arrived at her apartment, Doug tried to come inside and, when rebuffed, lingered outside her building for an uncomfortable amount of time. (Note: some details of this story have been omitted to protect privacy.)
I was horrified. I wanted to help her and prevent Doug from doing this to someone else. But the incident had taken place maybe six months before, and she was ready to move past it. She lacked a female mentor at work who she could have gone to for advice, and being inexperienced myself, I kept quiet about her story but also never forgot it.
Shortly after she had told me her story, she and another coworker went public about the fact that they were dating. She and her new boyfriend (they're actually married now) had Doug as a boss, and the moment their relationship was out in the open, something switched in Doug. He grew more reserved and removed from office socializing. He let his hair and facial hair grow long and unkempt. It was like his fear that my friend might tell or had told her boyfriend this secret was eating at him from the inside.
Not long after all this, I was promoted, so Doug was no longer my manager. My new boss, a wonderful man who is still a friend and mentor to me today, pulled me into his office one day and said, "tell me the truth. How much does everyone on that team hate Doug?" I felt a wave of relief come over me and proceeded to list my grievances about his terrible management and laziness. Though I withheld the details of my friend's experience, I also told my new boss that I'd heard accounts of incredibly inappropriate behavior toward a young woman at the company. He nodded his head, as if I was confirming suspicions he'd had for a while.
Not long after, Doug was let go. Technically, his position was "eliminated," which meant no one had to address his performance issues or the sexual harassment accusations. But all that mattered to me at that point was that he was gone and could no longer get away with being such an incompetent creep.
Nearly 12 years later, I'm still grateful to that boss who invited me to speak out about Doug and listened. I often joke that I'm good at keeping secrets but also very good at giving unsolicited advice. I won't share a secret that someone doesn't want shared, but I will advise them on how to deal with the issue, even if they don't want my help dealing with it.
That philosophy has carried over into how I behave as a manager. I try to be the type of manager who people feel comfortable coming to about anything, even if it's uncomfortable. My experience with Doug also made me realize the importance of having professional mentors who are women, because as the #MeToo campaign has proven, pretty much all women understand that sexual harassment is pervasive. The next step is getting all of us more comfortable with speaking up when it happens.

Ivanka Trump Gets Real About the Media's "Viciousness," and the Internet Fires Back
Ivanka Trump opened up in an interview on Fox and Friends about what it's been like to work in Washington since her father took office, and the internet couldn't help but roast her. One of the show's cohosts, Brian Kilmeade, asked the first daughter on June 12 how she's been managing to stick to her duties despite the constant media backlash, to which she admitted that it's been pretty difficult.
"There's a level of viciousness that I was not expecting," she said. "I was not expecting the intensity of this experience, but this isn't supposed to be easy." She also went on to further explain how she was "blindsided" by the "distractions" and "ferocity" of Washington DC. You can see her explain it ahead.
"There is a level of viciousness that I was not expecting...but this isn't supposed to be easy." -@IvankaTrump pic.twitter.com/viiMQ2ij1d
- FOX & friends (@foxandfriends) June 12, 2017
Of course, people simply couldn't resist calling her out on social media for her comments, specifically the tidbit about the "viciousness" surrounding her father's presidency. Many Twitter users used this as an opportunity to point out that it's not the media that's brutal, but rather President Donald Trump himself.
Viciousness is mocking a disabled reporter, insulting the parents of a dead soldier, impugning an entire religion and attempting to ban them
- Amanda Guinzburg (@Guinz) June 12, 2017
Ivanka's father, @realdonaldtrump, wants to take healthcare away from 24 million people. That's quite vicious.

Her father sold "Hillary for Prison" merch in his official campaign shop. https://t.co/PJHdnAEchn
- Matt Compton (@mattcompton) June 12, 2017
It kind of seems like Trump is seeking pity for this so-called "ferocity," but she probably should've thought twice about her word choice in the first place. The internet will always snatch up any opportunity to roast her father's polarizing actions and she'll need to get used it for three and a half more years.

Jennifer Lopez's Monokini Is So Sexy, We Don't Even Know Where to Begin
Jennifer Lopez has been vacationing with her new beau, Alex Rodriguez, in France, and the pair made time for a yachting adventure in Antibes. Gold hoop earrings and aviator sunglasses were all she needed to make a statement. But really, with Jennifer's finesse and ability to pull off striking silhouettes, we can't say we're entirely blown away by her look. J Lo looks comfortable enough in her one-piece that it seems just right for a gal with daring style. If you're on board, you can shop the exact suit and similar designs ahead.

Gisele Bündchen Has a No-Nonsense Policy For Family Dinners: "Let's Be Present"
With a supermodel mom and star quarterback dad, we can imagine things get a little hectic at the Brady-Bündchen household. Even so, the family still makes time for invaluable bonding moments and consistent family dinners. In a new interview with WSJ. for the magazine's April 2018 issue, Gisele Bündchen shared how she and her husband Tom Brady maintain their quality time with their three children: Benjamin, Vivian, and Jack, who is Tom's son from a previous marriage.
The main ingredient? Zero technology. "No phone, no electronics," the 37-year-old model said. "Let's be present. Let's share. That's the most important thing for me . . . I come from a family of eight, and it was the best time when we all sat together. Everybody would want to talk. My dad would be like, 'Raise your hand.'"
Gisele's advice echoes the technology-free policies many parents are instilling in their households. Pope Francis even urged parents to keep phones away from the dinner table. Given that a study from last year also found a disconcerting link between excessive screen time and speech delays in young children, it seems like sound advice indeed.

Chadwick Boseman Is Thrilled to Be Hosting SNL "Only 2 Months After Black Panther Came Out"
Chadwick Boseman - yes, the star of the record-breaking Marvel film Black Panther, - got his chance to host Saturday Night Live this week, and it's safe to say he totally crushed his opening monologue.
After cracking a joke or two about how he finally got to take the stage a full two months after Black Panther hit theaters he went on to have a little fun at Sterling K. Brown's expense, saying that Sterling already got to talk about Black Panther on SNL, and "he dies in the first scene of the movie."
Keenan Thompson decided to get in on the action by interrupting Chadwick and begging him to do a Black Panther sequel. "Come on, dude! I know you guys are doin' a sequel. Hook a brother up," he said. "It's hard out there for a black space cat with spiky suspenders."
Oh, and did we mention his outfit was totally on point? Check out the video clip to get some much-needed laughs from one of the year's biggest stars and first-time SNL host.

After confessing that Cardi B's music "changed my life and inspired to me say what's on my mind," Aidy went as far as to suggest that she and Cardi were best friends. And while the chart-topping rapper explained she's just doing what she can for her fans, she was pretty quick to insist Aidy get her a glass of water as soon as the comedian offered to sing her a few of her original songs. So, yes, obviously both parties were hysterical. Watch the clip to get the full exchange.

The Ominous Trailer For Fahrenheit 451 Hits Way Too Close to Home in 2018
Ten years ago, dystopian movies and TV shows were fun to watch because they seemed wholly unrealistic and unbelievable. Now, given our current situation, some things might feel like they hit a little too close to home. Take the new trailer for HBO's Fahrenheit 451 adaptation, for instance, which might send some uncomfortable chills down your spine.
The latest teaser introduces us to the world inside Ray Bradbury's 1953 novel, where books are outlawed in a futuristic American society that has "firemen" on hand to burn any remaining publications. Guy Montag (Michael B. Jordan), a young fireman, begins to question his job after meeting a woman who convinces him to rebel against society. Joining him is Michael Shannon, who delivers one of the latest trailer's most chilling lines: "Do you wanna know what's inside these books? Insanity."
Fahrenheit 451 premieres on May 19 on HBO.

Ben Affleck, Real-Life Superhero, Surprises 11-Year-Old Batman Fan Battling Terminal Cancer
Ben Affleck is a superhero onscreen and off, especially in the eyes of one 11-year-old boy. Mukuta, a refugee from the Congo, is currently undergoing treatment for a rare form of cancer at a hospice center in Atlanta. According to NBC 11Alive, the terminally ill young boy had two wishes: to reunite with his family and to meet his superhero, Batman. The hospital originally only asked for a Batman impersonator, but thanks to social media, Mukuta's wishes reached the actor who's currently filming a new movie in Hawaii, and the two were able to meet over FaceTime.
After their conversation, Hospice Atlanta revealed that Ben offered to help fulfill the other half of Mukuta's dream. Ben will pay for Mukuta's mother to fly from a refugee camp in Zimbabwe to reunite in person. He proves that it doesn't take a mask or a cape to be a hero, simply a desire to help.
Such a memorable day for Mukuta who's a super #Batman fan! He received a phone call from @BenAffleck today. Leslie Mann's picture-perfect family stepped out to support her at the LA premiere of her new comedy, Blockers, on Tuesday night. The actress was joined by her husband of 20 years Judd Apatow and their two daughters, Maude, 20, and Iris, 15.
The film, which hits theaters on April 6, revolves around a mother who's having trouble with the idea of her daughter going off to college, and at the screening, Leslie revealed that she recently got in trouble for supporting Maude's decision to drop out of Northwestern University. "Well, she's obviously an adult and she's going to do what she wants to do, and I stand behind her," Leslie told ET. "So, if she wants to stay in school, great, and if she wants to start working now, great." Maude is currently a sophomore in college and made her directorial debut with Don't Mind Alice this past February.
Lovebirds George and Amal Clooney Step Out For Second Date Night in a Row
George and Amal Clooney are clearly enjoying NYC. The gorgeous couple - who welcomed twins Alexander and Ella in June 2017 - held hands as they made their way past paparazzi trying to catch a glimpse of the duo in SoHo on Friday night. George continued to prove that chivalry isn't dead when he held his arm out for his wife to hold while she walked down the steps in her beige knee-high boots and held her hand as they crossed the street. Their latest outing comes just a few weeks after they were spotted at the March For Our Lives rally in Washington DC. The pair also donated $500,000 to the movement, which calls for stronger gun control in the US. Keep reading to see more photos of their recent date night.

Jennifer Lopez's Shades of Blue Is Ending, and We Don't Know How to Handle It
We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to share some devastating news: Shades of Blue is ending! Yes, you read that right. The NBC series' third season will be its last. The show, which stars Jennifer Lopez as Detective Harlee Santos and Ray Liotta as Lieutenant Matt Wozniak, will air its final 10 episodes starting with the season three premiere on June 17.
"I have enjoyed producing and starring in this beautifully complicated world and playing such an empowering yet flawed character - a woman, a detective, but, first and foremost, a mother," Lopez told The Hollywood Reporter. "Now looking at it with a little distance, playing Harlee strengthened me and helped me grow into a more self-assured woman. It's crazy how some parts permeate your soul and change you forever and for that I am grateful. We crafted a poetic three-season arc on how her journey ends, which is true redemption. The way only Harlee could have done it - the hard way, the road less traveled. I thank NBC and all the talented actors, writers, crew and producers for going on this journey with us!"
The reason for the sudden ending of the hit show: Lopez's demanding schedule. The 48-year-old star is in NBC's upcoming live musical Bye Bye Birdie, filming two movies, and serving as a judge on World of Dance, and that's on top of her Las Vegas residency. The show might be ending, but we will cherish every moment until it's over.
Will.i.am and Britney Spears Just Lost a 5-Year Legal Battle Over "Scream & Shout"
Will.i.am and Britney Spears officially have something to "Scream & Shout" about. For the past five years, the two stars have been embroiled in a legal battle over royalties for their hit 2013 song, and it all came to a head this week. As it turns out, Will.i.am wasn't the only writer of the popular track, and despite it being Spears's first number one hit in the UK in eight years when it topped the charts in 2013, she wasn't the original person tapped to sing it.
The first singer approached to sing on "Scream & Shout" was Tulisa Contostavlos, once a member of the group N-Dubz, who had 12 hit songs in the UK before splitting in 2011. She went on to be a judge on the UK version of The X Factor, where she was most famous for mentoring superstar girl group Little Mix.
Contostavlos went on to collaborate with Will.i.am during the writing process for "Scream & Shout," but she was never given a co-writing credit. Not only that, but she was the original choice for the vocals on the track long before Spears got the gig. Apparently the initial recording of the song with Contostavlos's vocals was done as a demo for her debut album The Female Boss, but her label decided not to include it in the final cut.
What's even more damning for Will.i.am and Spears is that a musicologist (yes, that's a real thing) has determined that Contostavlos's vocals are even mixed into the final version of "Scream & Shout," which seems to explain why Spears sings her lines in an English accent at one point. After successfully fighting the duo in a long legal battle, Contostavlos has now been awarded a co-writing credit, as well as 10 percent of everything the chart-topping song has made in its lifetime.
If Tiffany Haddish and Brad Pitt Went on a Date, Here's What It Would Look Like
Tiffany Haddish stopped by The Tonight Show on Friday and dished to Jimmy Fallon about her pact with Brad Pitt. As the story goes, Tiffany was in an elevator with the 54-year-old actor earlier this year discussing her hopes for a longtime relationship one day when all of a sudden Brad turned to her and said, "If I'm single in a year, and you're single in a year, maybe we can get together and see what happens." Naturally, Tiffany freaked out, as one would. That is, until she "did some research" and discovered that Brad has "a gang of kids" with his estranged wife, Angelina Jolie. "I wanna be baby mama number one!" Tiffany joked. Watch what happened when she humored the late-night talk show host in a skit about what would happen if she did take Brad up on his offer in the clip above.
Amazon Is Coming For HBO's Throne With a Billion-Dollar Lord of the Rings TV Series
Amazon officially closed a deal to obtain rights for the Lord of the Rings franchise back in November, and the more we hear about it, the more insane(ly good) the new TV series sounds.
According to Deadline, the company paid $250 million to J.R.R. Tolkien's estate, publisher HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema to create a series set in Middle Earth in a bidding war with Netflix. The show will mark the first venture back into the fantasy world since 2014's The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Amazon has committed to five seasons, per The Hollywood Reporter, and the stories will reportedly precede the events depicted in the Lord of the Rings book series.
The terms of the deal also specified that Amazon must begin production on the series within two years, which is hopefully enough time to save up for how much the show is going to cost. Early reports suggest between casting, producers, and visual effects, it will likely shake out to over $1 billion. Do you know how much lembas that could buy you?!
The decision to pay such a large price for the rights to the story falls directly in line with Amazon's attempt to compete with HBO's high-fantasy juggernaut, Game of Thrones, which is on the brink of its eighth and final season. Sharon Tal Yguado, head of scripted series at Amazon Studios, said in an official statement, "The Lord of the Rings is a cultural phenomenon that has captured the imagination of generations of fans through literature and the big screen. We are honored to be working with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line on this exciting collaboration for television and are thrilled to be taking The Lord of the Rings fans on a new epic journey in Middle Earth."
Seeing as the TV series is still in early developmental stages, it will likely be a long time before the show premieres. But hey, Game of Thrones season eight isn't due until 2019. And though HBO is currently developing spinoff series, we imagine Amazon's epic fantasy entry won't be far behind.
Drake's "Nice For What" Music Video Is a Star-Studded Celebration, and Everyone Is Invited

Uh-Oh! Thanos Brings the War to Wakanda in This New Extended Trailer For Infinity War
Are you ready for Avengers: Infinity War? I hope so, because I can't take another one of these emotional trailers, you guys. The newest trailer, which you can watch below, features footage of a battle between the Avengers facing off against Thanos (Josh Brolin). It also appears this battle takes place in Wakanda, the technologically advanced African nation also known as the setting of the latest MCU film, Black Panther. In the clip, Okoye (Danai Gurira), the general of Black Panther's Dora Milaje, chides T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) for the chaos happening in their land.
"When you said we we're going to open Wakanda to the rest of the world, this was not what I imagined," she remarks, explaining that she expected them to host the Olympics or open a Starbucks instead. Among all of the rumors that Iron Man, Captain America, and Vision might perish by the time the credits roll, we needed that laugh.
As far as the other clips from the epic team-up flick are concerned, let's just say you're going to need every last bit of your strength to handle watching them. The film sees all of your favorite heroes - Captain America, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, the Hulk, Black Widow, Thor, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and more - joining forces to put an end to Thanos's wrath. Can they do it? We'll have to wait until the movie hits theaters on April 27 to find out.
