Fitbit's Latest Smartwatch Impresses on All Fronts, but Its Look and Price Are What Will Sell You
If the Fitbit Ionic impressed you, just wait until you see the company's latest product. On April 16, 2018, Fitbit released its highly anticipated smartwatch, the Fitbit Versa. Advertised with a completely new, elevated look along with four-plus days of battery life, the newest addition to the Fitbit family is sure to please. So, as soon as I was able to get my hands on one, I immediately put the Versa to the test. My first impression: Fitbit finally nailed it with this one.
From an aesthetics standpoint, I was fully impressed by the Versa's softer clock face and its light weight. Fun fact: the Fitbit Versa is the lightest metal smartwatch in the US. Its similar look to the Apple Watch also makes it competitive on the design front. Opting for a square face with rounded edges (compared to the Ionic's more angular design) was completely intentional and designed with the female consumer in mind, according to Fitbit senior product marketing manager Kat Binder. She shared that considering 60 percent of smartwatch buyers are men, Fitbit wanted to tap into the female market this time around. In addition to releasing a black-on-black aluminum and gray-silver aluminum watch, Fitbit also offers a gorgeous rose gold one that will definitely sway skeptics.
Here are some key features of the Versa, many of which we've already known and loved on previous devices:
- Battery life: There's no need to charge your smartwatch every night because you can enjoy the Versa for a minimum of four days straight. This also means you can wear it while you sleep (and comfortably, might I add), which leads me to . . .
- Onscreen workouts: With the Versa, you have your own personal trainer right on your wrist. Three on-device workouts are included with your device (10-Minute Abs, Seven-Minute Workout, and Warm It Up), while a paid subscription gives you access to multiple trainers, additional workouts, and Fitbit Radio. Your Fitbit Coach will walk you through each move and continue to improve with feedback.
- Auto sleep tracking: Your Versa gives you a deeper look into your bedtime habits by telling you how long you were in light, deep, or REM sleep. See your nightly sleep insights on the Fitbit app, which also explains the importance of each cycle. I learned that I wake up much more often than I should each night, which has encouraged me to switch up my bedtime routine.
- Auto activity tracking: Thanks to the Versa's SmartTrack technology, you don't have to hit "start" in order for your workout to count. Your watch will automatically detect what kind of exercise you're doing without having to log activity yourself.
- Integrated dashboard: The on-device dashboard was redesigned to allow for easy access to your health and fitness data right on your wrist. Now, you can glance at your seven-day exercise summaries, current and resting heart rate, daily stats, and more - all without having to go on the mobile app to find it.
- Connected GPS: Your Fitbit Versa automatically tracks your running and biking pace, distance, and speed using your smartphone's GPS if it's nearby. This is the one downfall to the Versa as the Ionic features built-in GPS.
- 24/7 heart rate tracking: Similar to the Fitbit Ionic, the Versa uses PurePulse technology to provide you with your current and resting heart rate. The new integrated dashboard also allows you to see your seven-day resting heart rate trends on your wrist.
- Water resistance: Feel free to take a bath with your Versa on or jump into the ocean (up to 50 meters) or pool - it's totally safe.
- Phone-free music: You can store up to 300 of your favorite songs directly onto your smartwatch or stream music through Pandora or Deezer. The best part? It's compatible with Bluetooth devices, so you can hook up your wireless headphones without having to carry your phone on a run!
In addition to text/call notification and calendar alerts, you can take personalization to the next level with the various apps (hello, Strava!), the clock faces available, and numerous accessory bands, from stainless steel to leather. And if you're not yet convinced that the Versa is for you, let me just share the price point real quick. The Fitbit Versa starts at $200 (for the black, silver, and rose gold) and goes up to $230 for the special-edition smartwatches, which come in an exclusive charcoal woven and lavender woven band and feature Fitbit (wallet-free) Pay. In comparison to the Apple Watch Series 3 (starting at $329) and the Fitbit Ionic (starting at $300), the cost of the Versa is undeniably competitive.
As if all that weren't enough, coming this Spring are female health tracking and message quick replies for Android users. Ladies, soon we'll be able to get predicted ovulation dates, predicted period dates, menstrual reminders, cycle tracking, and other personal insights. But wait for it . . . you won't even need a Fitbit device to access this data as long as you have the Fitbit mobile app downloaded. As for you Android users, you'll soon be able to reply to texts on your wrist with quick preselected responses or with your own customized replies. Fitbit informed us that they're currently working on a solution for iPhone users.
Overall, the key difference between the Fitbit Versa and the Ionic comes down to looks and cost. The two devices are nearly identical in features, aside from the Ionic's built-in GPS. The Fibit Versa is an affordable option for fitness enthusiasts who want a smartwatch that's more fashion forward. If you don't mind bringing your phone along with you for its GPS, I'd say that the Versa is the way to go. Come on, you can't beat a $200 smartwatch.

This Light-Up Pool Float Is Basically the Waterproof Version of Your '90s Bean Bag
Flat pool floats are great and all, but have you ever seen one that's essentially the aquatic equivalent of those neon blow-up chairs you loved so much in the '90s? (Yes, the one with the squeaky plastic.) Well, it exists. Home decor retailer Frontgate currently offers a color-changing Glow Float ($129) that's perfect when you want to lounge in the pool but not, like, in the pool. The rather bulbous float is easily inflatable with an air pump and accompanying remote control. The best part, however, is the button on the back that allows you to change the color of the float between 12 different options. See more pictures and shop the pool-party-starter ahead.
Oprah Drops About a Million Mic-Drop Quotes During USC Commencement Speech
On May 11, Oprah Winfrey delivered a commencement speech to the graduating students of the USC Annenberg School For Communication and Journalism in LA. Much like her acceptance speech at this year's Golden Globes, the talk was filled to the brim with powerful wisdom, astonishing comfort, and too many powerful words to count. The speech is embedded in its entirety above; Oprah is the grand finale, and she begins speaking at the 51-minute mark. While we could fawn over her Maya Angelou quotes or the easy and fantastic life lessons she tacks on the end, there's one especially meaty part of the speech that could really make a profound impact.
Oprah starts with the bad news, which is basically a commentary on the state of the world in her eyes.
"Everything around us, including and in particular the internet and social media, is now being used to erode trust in our institutions, enter fear in our elections, and wreak havoc on our infrastructure. It hands advertisers a map to our deepest desires, it enables misinformation to run rampant, attention spans to run short, and false stories from phony sites to run circles around major news outlets. We have literally walked into traffic while staring at our phones."
When she gets to the "good news" section, she talks a lot about the "fake news" epidemic that seems to have infected the reporting space. But Oprah is not merely bemoaning the way things are. She's offering her best advice on how to untangle the webs upon webs of lies.
"The good news is that there really is a solution. And the solution is each and every one of you, because you will become the new editorial gatekeepers, an ambitious army of truth seekers who will arm yourselves with the intelligence, the insight, and the facts necessary to strike down deceit. You are in a position to keep all of those who now disparage real news . . . you all are the ones who are going to keep those people in check. Why? Because you can push back, and you can answer false narratives with real information. And you can set the record straight. And you also have the ability and power to give voice . . . to people who desperately now need to tell their stories and have their stories told.
"The problem is everyone is meeting hysteria with more hysteria, and we just are all becoming hysterical. And it's getting worse. What I've learned in all these years is that we're not supposed to match it or even get locked into resisting or pushing against it. We're supposed to see this moment in time for what it is. We're supposed to see through it and transcend it. That is how you overcome hysteria, and that is how you overcome the sniping at one another, the trolling, the mean spirited partisanship on both sides of the aisle, the divisiveness, the injustices, the out and out hatred. You use it. Use this moment to encourage you to embolden you and to literally push you into the rising of your life.
"So your job now is to take everything you've learned here and use what you've learned to challenge the left to challenge the right and the center. When you see something, you say something, and you say it with the facts and the reporting to back it. Here's what you have to do: you make the choice every day, every single day, to exemplify honesty. Because the truth, let me tell you something about the truth.
"The truth exonerates, and it convicts. It disinfects, and it galvanizes. The truth has always been and will always be our shield against corruption our shield against greed and despair the truth is our saving grace. And not only are you here . . . to tell it, to write it, to proclaim it, to speak it, but to be it. Be the truth. Be the truth."
Mic drop.
18 People Who Are in Line For the Presidency If Trump Is Removed From Office
If you're suddenly curious as to who becomes president in case President Donald Trump resigns, dies, or is impeached, take a look at the 18 people in line for succession. Called the Presidential Succession Act, the law has a long history of changes, with the last one taking place in 2006.
The first iteration of the Presidential Succession Act in 1792 stated the Senate president pro tempore would be next in line after the vice president. On July 18, 1947, President Harry Truman signed the Presidential Succession Act of 1947. This act changed the line of succession in two ways; first it reinstated the Senate president pro tempore and speaker of the House to the succession plan. Secondly, it also placed the speaker of the House right after the vice president instead of the Senate president pro tempore. The last change to the act came in 2006, when the USA Patriot Improvement and Reauthorization Act of 2005 added the secretary of Homeland Security to the list.
In Trump's administration, here's the full line of succession.
- Vice President Mike Pence
- Speaker of the House Paul Ryan
- Senate President Pro Tempore Orrin Hatch
- Secretary of State Rex Tillerson
- Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin
- Secretary of Defense James Mattis
- Attorney General Jeff Sessions
- Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke
- Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue
- Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross
- Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta
- Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price
- Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson
- Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao
- Secretary of Energy Rick Perry
- Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos
- Secretary of Veterans Affairs David Shulkin
- Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly
The only caveat here is that Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao isn't eligible since she was born in Taipei, Taiwan, and is therefore not a US-born citizen. While it's still uncertain whether or not we'll need to refer to this list in the future, at least we know who we can expect.

Umm . . . Irina Shayk's Red Gown Is Barely Being Held Together by Mini Chains
Irina Shayk might have just given birth to her baby months ago, but you wouldn't be able to tell after seeing her in this sexy dress. The supermodel was just one of the many stars to hit up the Cannes Film Festival, and let's just say she brought the heat.
Irina showed off her enviable postbaby figure in a sexy gown by Versace. Her red gown featured so many daring cutouts, our jaws were on the ground. The sultry design literally looked like it was four pieces of fabric being held together by tiny chains. Keep reading to have a look at all angles of her sexy dress ahead.
Cate Blanchett's Cannes Gown Looked So Incredible, the Designer Cried When She Saw It
When we heard that Cate Blanchett had been named president of the jury for the 71st Cannes Film Festival, we knew that meant some serious fashion moments on the red carpet. Cate consistently rules when it comes to red carpet style, and the glamour and spectacle of Cannes is the perfect place for her to continue her reign.
She surprised us all by recycling her 2014 Golden Globes gown for her first Cannes appearance, but on Thursday night, at the premiere of Cold War (Zimna Wojna), she brought us something new, and boy, was it worth the wait! Cate stepped onto that famous Cannes staircase in a custom Mary Katrantzou creation, a gown so voluminous it apparently had to be driven to the Riviera from London in a special van.
Cate's puffball design combines elements from a number of looks first shown during Katrantzou's Spring 2018 show. The collection was inspired by childhood pursuits, and if you look closely, you'll notice the black and white base of Cate's dress is actually a paint-by-numbers design! Onto this was added a riot of colorful embellishment, which apparently took three weeks to be hand-embroidered, according to Vogue.
"Moments like this are a stylist's dream," said Elizabeth Stewart, who was responsible for choosing details like the Chopard butterfly rings and $695 Aquazzura pumps that finished the look. The designer herself was just as overcome, taking to Instagram to say, "I have never cried with excitement when someone has worn my dress but I did tonight."

My Stubborn Acne Refused to Clear Up - Until I Tried This $4 Spray From Trader Joe's
I'm about to say something that's earned me a lot of half-kidding "f*ck yoooou"s from friends since I was a teenager: I don't typically struggle with acne. That's not to say I don't have my own special set of skin issues; I fight a near-constant battle against stubborn dark circles, flaky dry patches, and easy facial scarring, not to mention that my skin is ultrasensitive and thus prone to allergic reactions. But for as long as I can remember, I've never dealt with consistent pimples - so on the rare occasion when I do get a breakout, it's major enough that everybody in my life notices.
I can tell that a breakout isn't just my imagination when my sweetheart of a fiancé asks me if I'm stressed. The most recent example of this happened only two weeks ago, and while my stress level has been a bit higher than normal - I'm planning a rapidly approaching wedding - I couldn't pinpoint the cause. All I knew was, despite concentrated tried-and-true efforts on my part, the stubborn patches of zits on my cheeks would not clear up.
I thought "why not?" when I went grocery shopping at Trader Joe's and saw its new rose water facial toner for only $4. It wasn't going to make my skin any worse . . . right?
I had tried it all: acne spot dots, detoxifying clay masks, drinking massive amounts of water, going makeup-free even on workdays, changing my pillowcase every night. None of my usual methods did a damn thing. So since my skin was already painful (my acne occurs mostly beneath the skin's surface) and uncharacteristically spotted, I thought "why not?" when I went grocery shopping at Trader Joe's and saw its new rose water facial toner for only $4. It wasn't going to make my skin any worse . . . right?
I subbed the rose toner mist in for my usual choice, after my favorite GLAMGLOW cleanser ($32) and before my Farmacy Beauty moisturizer ($45) and go-to Benefit eye cream ($34). I sprayed the mist onto cotton rounds, then applied to my face and neck.
The next morning, I noticed that the stubborn patches of blemishes on my cheeks had begun to fade, and were less painful than they'd been the night before. Not one to question a miracle, I again added the Trader Joe's toner to my morning routine and tossed it into my work bag afterward, using the spritz on my face throughout the day when I needed refreshing. By the evening, the redness of my acne spots had substantially subsided, leaving only a few bumps on my cheek. Within two days, my breakout was gone completely. I'm happily writing this with acne-free cheeks, and I've finally been able to get back to playing with makeup.
Though I know that the Trader Joe's toner isn't solely responsible for my skin improving - I have a full skincare routine, after all - the timing was pretty impeccable, and it certainly played a part. I've already gone back to Trader Joe's to stock up on a few more bottles of the toner, because nothing's worse than falling in love with a product and then having it inexplicably disappear from shelves.
Keep reading for photos of my results and more info on the toner's ingredients. If you're looking for a new, affordable way to mix up your skincare routine, or maybe you're just desperate for a miracle like I was, I suggest giving it a shot! At four bucks, there's not much to lose.

Purple and Silver Toning Shampoo to Keep That Blond Hair Blond
You might have heard about toning shampoo before, but do you know why blondes need it? Also known as purple shampoo, it helps fight off all those orange and brassy tones that often develop after you've dyed your hair a lighter shade. And unless you're going for the brassy look, people typically want to get rid of it. Because the shampoos are typically purple, blue, and gray, they can help cancel out the warm shades on the hair. Interested in trying one for yourself? Invest in some of these choices.
Drawing on Eyebrows Is a Serious Art Form, and This 3-in-1 Wand Is the Only Thing I Trust
If my eyebrows had a relationship status, it would definitely be "it's complicated." In fact, filling them in is the hardest and most time-consuming task in my makeup routine. My hair is super fine, light, and blonde - brows included. Not only have they always been sparse, but in the early 2000s, as one does, I plucked them all off thinking that I was Kate Moss. Huge regret. I've had one hell of a time growing them back. Very rarely do I ever leave my house without drawing them on first.
In my past 15 eyebrow-less years, they've seen the likes of every product under the sun. I have a few that I keep at the top of my list, but nothing has ever fulfilled my wishes. I always found myself mixing one pen with another pencil, then using a clear gel with a little colored gel. It was too much, and I was sick of it.
As an editor at POPSUGAR, I was lucky enough to get a preview of our new beauty collection early. After one quick glance, I knew there was one product I needed: the Beauty by POPSUGAR Triple Play 3-in-1 Brow ($23). What drew me to it was the fact that it's not your run-of-the-mill pencil. It also features a clear gel and a highlighter stick (WOW) all in one! The miracle wand is currently available in one universal shade, but that isn't an issue for me. The hue works on me even though my hair is light. It also works on my sister, who has dark brown brows. I know because she is constantly stealing it from me.
The second I swiped it on, I was sold. Its easy-to-apply applicator has a square-like shape with ultrathin corners that fills every nook and cranny. My favorite feature: it's perfect for multitasking! While using it, I am able to switch back and forth between the applicator tip and the clear gel, which helps shape my hairs and keep them in place while continuing to fill them out. In the past, I would have to switch between several different products to get this effect.
After finishing my arches, I apply my favorite Beauty by POPSUGAR Make Waves Liquid Metallic Eye Shadow ($23) in Never Settle and the Beauty by POPSUGAR Thick + Thin Mascara ($25), which also features two handy wands. Then I return to the brow wand for the highlighter. I apply it under my brow line, right in the corner of my eyes, and even spread some on my cheek and nose. My bag used to be filled with an array of items, and now I can throw them all out for this vegan and cruelty-free stick. If you can relate to never going anywhere without a solid brow, this one is totally worth a try and will save you some space in your makeup bag!

A Breakdown of All the Products a Beauty Editor Travels With
I don't know if it's harder to pack my clothes or my makeup when I go on vacation. Even getting ready for work at the gym in the morning feels like a challenge; I inevitably end up leaving the lip color I want to wear at home. After a lot of flights and multiple overstuffed cosmetic cases, these are my picks for on-the-go beauty. Your suitcase will thank you.

Does Oral Sunscreen Actually Work? Here's What the Experts Say
If there's one thing every skincare expert can agree on, it's the importance of slapping on some SPF before you head outside (or even walk by a window). Now, it's easier than ever to protect your skin from harmful ultraviolet rays thanks to a relatively new product: oral sunscreen. Oral sunscreens, which typically come in pill form, aren't meant to be a complete substitute for the topical version, but they do make a nice addition to your routine. We repeat: DO NOT USE THESE INSTEAD OF TOPICAL SUNSCREEN.
"Oral sunscreen agents are typically antioxidants called polypodium leucotomos," said board-certified dermatologist and ethnic skin expert Dr. William Kwan. "They may be helpful by increasing the time it takes for a person to burn when exposed to ultraviolet rays."
Dr. Carolyn Jacob, of Chicago Dermatology, is in complete agreement with Dr. Kwan, telling us, "Studies have shown that they can reduce sunburn cells (or the capacity for the sun to damage the skin cells)."
Curious? We've rounded up a few options to try in addition to your regular SPF.
I've Tried Every Face Powder Under the Sun, but This One Reigns Supreme
One of my first makeup experiences as a teenager was heading to my local department store, walking up to the first sales lady I saw, and asking, "What is the best powder foundation I can buy?" Without hesitation, she pointed me in the direction of MAC Cosmetics. A few minutes later, I was the owner of my very first MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation ($30).
Over 10 years later, I still use this product daily, but the journey wasn't as simple as it sounds. Several times I thought to myself, "Is it really the best?," and I let friends, ads, and salespeople constantly convince me to try something else. From drugstore brands to high-end names, I've tested it it all. Because I have problematic, acne-prone, oily skin (lucky me!), all these other options made those issues worse or just were never right on my face. Like clockwork, every single time I experienced a failed attempt at switching products, I headed right back to my holy grail trusty foundation.
My favorite thing about it: the coverage! I'm not a huge fan of heavy liquid foundations. I prefer lighter BB-cream-like textures, but they aren't enough when covering my flaws. I strictly rely on powder for coverage, and this one does the job! I even use tiny brushes for spot treatments if I have a breakout. The consistency and finish are simply unbeatable.
It comes in a variety of shades ranging in neutral, cool, and warm tones. The brand also suggests that you can use it in combination with other heavier liquid foundations or setting powders, or just as is. If you haven't already, give this cult classic a try.

I Didn't Get Along With Eye Shadow Until I Tried This Shimmery Product
Eye shadow and I don't get along. I have photos from high school to prove it. After a few short-lived months of attempting to rock bold hues as a teen, I had given up hope that one day we would go back to liking each other again. Nowadays, my daily makeup routine consists of wearing tinted BB cream and mascara - and that's if I'm trying to be fancy.
When I was asked to write an honest review about the Be Noticed Eye Shimmer Putty Powder from our new beauty line, Beauty by POPSUGAR, I figured it was the universe begging me to give eye shadow another chance. I'd be lying to you if I said I wasn't nervous that the eye shadow would irritate my eyes (it had only been a couple of months since I had laser eye surgery). Plus, I didn't want to get stuck wearing those Keanu Reeves Matrix-inspired sunglasses again if I did somehow poke an eye out. (Ironically, tiny sunglasses are "in" again . . . go figure.) If I didn't like the product, the worst-case scenario was that I'd have fun trying on makeup and taking tons of pictures - not too shabby, if I say so myself.
I decided to try three different shades to create an everyday look, a day-to-night look, and a night-out look. The first thing I noticed when I put on the eye shadow was that it felt like I wasn't wearing any makeup at all, which is a HUGE win in my book. I was really happy to see that there were no harmful chemicals in the product and that the entire line of products is cruelty-free. As for the eye shadow itself, I loved that it was super sheer and buildable so I could apply however much I wanted. It also didn't hurt that it had a nice shine to it.
In conclusion, you really don't have to be a makeup expert to rock these eye shadows. While I'm too lazy to wear makeup most days, I do believe that I would wear this product when I'm in the mood. Read on to see how I created three different looks that fit my lifestyle. If you're in the market for a new shade or flirting with the idea of giving eye shadow a shot, you can buy these bad boys at Ulta or on the dedicated Beauty by POPSUGAR website.
This Charcoal Shampoo Cured My Itchy, Painful Scalp and Transformed My Curls
For a long time, I prided myself on being a drugstore shampoo girl. When the opportunity to blow significant amounts of money presented itself, I gravitated toward buying an extremely unnecessary eye shadow palette over an expensive bottle of hair care. Why spend the equivalent of two whole pizzas on my hair when my $7 option did the job just fine?
Well, all of that changed recently when I woke up one day this Winter to find my scalp had pulled a total 180 on me overnight. Suddenly I was experiencing a whole host of fun scalp issues that my beloved drugstore shampoo seemed to only exacerbate, like soreness, stubborn greasiness, and even a weird layer of white gunk that built up on my scalp's surface no matter how many times I washed. Sexy, no?
But just when I was starting to fear that my scalp and I would never be on good terms again, I came across the heavenly scalp saver that is (cue the chorus of angels) Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo ($42). While forking over $42 for eight ounces of gray sludge in a jar did initially crush a small piece of my soul, I'm ecstatic to report that this product proved it was worth every penny spent. According to the folks at Briogeo, the charcoal in this formula works to lift impurities off of the scalp, while the cooling sensation of peppermint soothes itchiness straight away. Well, whatever ingredients make this formula effective, I'm just here to confirm that this formula totally lives up to the hype. After just one wash, it eliminated all of my scalp woes (which Google tells me may have actually been seborrheic dermatitis . . . ? YUM) and transformed my hair into the healthiest it's ever been.
I credit this formula with defining my curls, smoothing out my frizzy texture (without sacrificing bounce!), and making my hair look shiny as hell. And since all of Briogeo's line is formulated without any sulfates, parabens, silicones, or synthetic colors, I can feel confident that I'm not rubbing questionable chemicals into my scalp with each use. Plus, it also happens to smell exactly like a Peppermint Pattie - not bad!
If you feel like going the extra mile, you can go big like yours truly did and pair up the microexfoliating shampoo with Briogeo's Charcoal + Tea Tree Scalp Treatment ($32). My hunch is that I have this oil to thank for extending the clean, minty feeling of my freshly washed hair for those extra few days. I simply apply it to the most irritated areas of my scalp by dividing hair into three-inch sections right out of the shower and rubbing a few drops directly into my scalp. I've also used it before bedtime and found that it soaks in nicely to a dry scalp.
If you're suffering from the hell that is an irritated scalp with no idea where to turn, I really can't give Briogeo's Scalp Revival line a big enough thumbs up. Sometimes a hefty price tag really is worth it, and that's most definitely been my experience with these products. So, what are you waiting for? Give 'em a go and report back with your results!

We Found the 1 Gym You'll Actually Want to Attend: FaceGym
I have recently been on a workout research binge, spending hours upon hours looking up routines to get me in the perfect shape - yoga for anxiety, cardio for a healthy heart, training tips for marathon first-timers - and I have read up on them all, excitedly keeping them in mind for future exercise sessions.
But while looking into new ways to get myself up and moving, I came across a very unique workout at a very special space that I had not yet become familiar with - FaceGym, an intense facial sports massage which acts as, you guessed it, a workout for your face.
What It Is
Founded by Inge Theron, FaceGym uses kneading movements and cutting-edge technology to work out 40 "forgotten" muscles in the face. Inge, who spent three years writing for the Financial Times, documented her beauty, fitness, and wellness experiences in a column titled "Chronicles of a Spa Junkie," and it was during this time that she visited 57 spas, took part in 32 types of fitness classes, dabbled with 25 antiaging treatments, and participated in 15 detoxes.
After Inge was left housebound following a face-lifting procedure, she knew that there had to be a better way to go about all of this and used her years of research and study to create an amazing concept of her own: FaceGym, a noninvasive facial workout. From there, Inge took two years studying face massage and muscle stimulation, working with an array of different facialists, experts, and doctors along the way to develop what is now known as FaceGym.
As someone who suffers on and off from frustrating hormonal acne and whose face has more dull days than I can count, FaceGym sounds like a gift from above.
How It Works
"FaceGym is a brand new beauty-meets-fitness concept," Inge told us. "Every FaceGym workout follows the flow of a gym workout, from warmup to cardio, sculpting to cooldown. We combine our signature knuckling to warm up the skin, then go into cardio - a fast-paced face whipping, which gets your face to sweat out and 'detox' from a lifestyle of excess sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and stress. Then we get into sculpting with hand-assisted muscle manipulation, hi-tech tools to lift, sculpt, tone, and tighten the 'Forgotten 40.'"
According to Inge, it's all about flexing your facial muscles. The basic workout focuses on promoting lymphatic drainage, stimulating blood circulation, and producing collagen. Once you graduate to more advanced classes, you'll get access to their specialized tool, the FaceGym Pro, "an electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) device that emits mild electrical waves to really stimulate the muscles and restore your skin's elasticity."
Not All Classes Are the Same
FaceGym's menu currently offers an array of different face workouts, with something for everyone - their "Clean and Lift" uses 4D laser technology to deeply clean congested, dull skin with zero pain and no downtime. "The Hangover" is described as "a Bloody Mary for your face" and uses its signature cardio workout to detox and drain fluid buildup, whereas "The Boss" uses an exfoliator to sculpt, tone, and scrub away stress.
"We believe muscle stimulation is the holy grail," Inge shares, "Hence muscle manipulation, whether that be with unique hand-based protocols or technology, is at the heart of what we do. Day in and day out, we see visible lifts in our customers' complexions from increased facial muscle tone. We all know that to improve muscle tone in our bodies we have to activate them - and the face is no different!"
Where to Go
FaceGym currently has locations in London, but will be coming to the States this Spring. FaceGym will launch with Saks Beauty Bar 2.0 in New York on May 22 and will open its NYC flagship store in Fall 2018. Their NYC flagship will have a unique design from their other spaces and be designed specifically for the New York consumer and their needs.

The 1 Foundation That Covered My Hives After an Allergic Reaction
A few weeks ago, I had an allergic reaction to a medication and woke up covered in hives from head to toe. I was completely freaked out that my usually clear skin had been taken over by large, red, splotchy bumps. I cried on the phone to my mom, sulked, and hid from the world.
When I realized I could no longer be a hermit (I'm a busy woman!), I panicked. I didn't want anyone, even my roommate, to see me like this. Eventually, I knew I had to stop being dramatic and accept my fate: I had to go out into public. In an effort to look less like a leper, I turned to Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation ($40), which promised to cover hyperpigmentation and redness, and prayed that it would cover my rash.
I grabbed my trusted Beautyblender ($20) and started dotting the liquid on my face, trying not to cry. To my surprise, it completely covered the hundreds of hives that had conquered my complexion. Although I still had a skin texture I can only describe as lumpy, I felt so much better. I thanked the makeup gods (and Huda Kattan) that this had worked, put on a hoodie, and went out in public for the first time in days.
Since then, my hives have thankfully gone away and I am no longer sick. However, my devotion to Huda's foundation is still going strong. The formula is silky-smooth, packed with pigment, and doesn't fade throughout the day. If it can cover hives, it can definitely handle my ordinary breakouts. I recently wore it for a photo shoot, and my skin looks incredible in the photos.
While I hope I never have hives again, at least I now know what product I can turn to in a skin emergency.

Like all 16 other iterations of the popular luminizer, this bronze-opal shade gives you more of a warm glow than an out-there "shine," which makes it perfect for 9-to-5 wear.
Except you're a princess, so you probably don't do 9-to-5.
