Is Retinol the Answer to All of Your Complexion Concerns?
To many skin care-obsessed women, retinol is considered liquid gold. It's known as a superb antiaging product because of its ability to decrease fine lines and wrinkles, but this ingredient can actually do much more. A great retinol product will plump and smooth while improving skin's elasticity, stimulating collagen, exfoliating, and evening its tone. Retinol also goes a long way in preventing and erasing sun damage.
There are two routes you can take when it comes to incorporating retinol into your regimen. It can be purchased over the counter or prescribed by a doctor. I spoke to a few skin care experts to break down everything you need to know about this quasi-miracle ingredient so you can figure out which route and products might be the best for you.

I'm Super Allergic to Dust and This Is the Only Air Purifier That Helps Clear My Sinuses
OK, let me start by saying I have two major problems in life. One: I'm super allergic to dust. Two: I live a very old, dusty apartment with 15-year-old carpet that has only god knows what packed into it. I guess allergies are like wine because they seem to develop with age. Every year I grow older, I spend more time blowing my nose and popping antihistamines. This past year, I had one of worst allergy attacks ever. I spent weeks being the annoying coughing girl at my office. After deciding I was most likely allergic to my house, I made the commitment to buying an air purifier. After tons of research, this Blueair Classic 203 Slim Air Purification System ($199) was my winner. Now I can't imagine living without it.
In my hunt, I discovered that it's important for allergy suffers to get a purifier with HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) technology. This one had it. The brand boasts that it also helps the filtration capture 99.97 percent of airborne pollutants, including allergens, mold, dust, pet dander, smoke particles, and pollen. It comes with three fan speeds. I normally keep it on low, but if I'm cleaning my house, I'll put it up to its max strength to make sure it sucks up all those particles. The best feature: it's so quiet, I don't hear any noise!
I purchased the 203 model, which works great for a small space, like my bedroom. If you need something larger, it also comes in 405 and 605 models that can handle up to 775 square feet.
New to line is this Blueair Classic 203 Slim Wifi Enabled Air Purification System ($329), which can connect your Alexa or Echo device.
Whether you suffer from allergies or not, this powerhouse machine will make your space feel fresher than ever.

Carnitas, Al Pastor, Barbacoa: Here's the 411 on Mexican Meats
The beer-drinking backdrop of a hot afternoon or evening would pair perfectly with a festive Mexican feast of tacos and grilled meats. But with a menagerie of Spanish monikers from carnitas to carne asada, taco meat terminology can get a bit confusing. Here's the breakdown of Mexican meats:
- Carne asada: Grilled, marinated pieces of beef (typically sirloin or rib) served inside burritos and tacos.
- Carnitas: Shoulder of pork that's been seasoned, braised until tender with lard and herbs (oregano, marjoram, bay leaves, garlic), pulled apart, and then oven-roasted until slightly crisp, then eaten alone or used as a filling for tacos, tamales, tortas, and burritos.
- Al pastor: Crisp-thin shavings of vertical spit-roasted pork, marinated with guajillo chiles and achiote, then served on tortillas. Pastor means "shepherd," the name given to Lebanese merchants who immigrated to Mexico City in the early 1900s, bringing the concept of shawarma with them.
- Cochinita pibil: Whole suckling pig or pork shoulder that's marinated in citrus with achiote, then wrapped in banana leaves and roasted. Historically, it's buried in a pit with a fire at the bottom.
- Barbacoa: Traditionally, beef cheek and head that's covered in leaves from the maguey plant, then slow cooked over a wood fire in a pit in the ground. In America today, it also refers to spicy, shredded, slow-braised beef that's been made tender, then pulled apart.
Got all that? What Mexican meat goes in between your tortillas?

7 Surprisingly Simple Ways to Make Light in a Blackout
Image Source: StockSnap / Nicola Fioravanti
Power's out and in a pinch to create some lighting ASAP? Don't panic (yes, I know, easier said than done when the world suddenly becomes pitch-black and eerily quiet) - with these makeshift lighting solutions, you'll be able to safely move about your surroundings in no time. So instead of aimlessly rummaging through that drawer where you could have sworn you stashed a flashlight, shed some light into your darkness by checking out these surprisingly simple ideas below!
- Glow sticks: Not only are glow sticks a great source of long-lasting light, but let's face it, they're also pretty fun. They can be propped in corners, tucked in shirt pockets, or attached to objects and will immediately provide hands-free, ambient light. My advice? Stock up on these items after Halloween. That's when they're almost always on clearance.
- Shining sardines: As strange as it might sound, check your pantry for cans of fish packed in oil. You know, cans of sardines, tuna, salmon, or anchovies. Once you have your can in hand, poke a hole in the top with a screwdriver. Make sure to spread the oil through the top of the hole. Then, insert a wick, light it, and voila!
-

- Glowing crayons: Who said crayons were just for kids? Because crayons are basically colored wax, these items can be quite resourceful when it comes to power outages. Simply break off the point and light the paper label at the end of the tip. As the wax begins to melt, this hack should provide you with about 30 minutes of crayon-candle light.
- Jug lamps: Of course, headlamps are also helpful to have on hand in case of emergencies. But if you want to take this makeshift lighting solution to the next level, grab a water-filled plastic jug (or any other clear container filled with water) and invert the headlamp, strapping it around the bottle. By having the headlamp face inward toward the bottle, the light will refract through the liquid, transforming your jug into an illuminating glow-lamp.
- Kindling Crisco: When it comes to an unexpected blackout, Crisco will also have your back. Just as with butter, place a wick into a can of Crisco, light it, and bam - light will be shining bright. The best part? This candle hack will have your back for at least a month. Yes, you read that correctly: 30 days! To get the best burn, make sure to smear a little bit of Crisco on the top of the wick.

- Burning butter: If you're lacking in the candle department, turn to butter. Yes, butter, aka the simplest candle you'll ever come across. All you need to do is cut off a rectangular chunk of butter, insert a wick, and light it. Although this hack couldn't be easier, remember to always place the butter on a glass or metal surface.
- Homemade orange candle: Another emergency candle hack can come from two simple household items: an orange and a tidbit of cooking oil. To make this candle, slice the orange all the way around. You'll want to cut deep enough to go below the skin, but no further than that. Then, peel away the skin carefully with your hands, but make sure to keep the stalk in the center of the orange attached. Pull both halves of the orange and place to the side. (Or eat it, your choice!) If what you have leftover looks a bit like an upside-down mushroom, you're well on your way to light. Next, pour a little oil in the peel and on the stalk. Light the stalk, and ta-da - another form of light. This time, no wick or wax required. Although any size of orange will work, the larger orange you use, the longer-burning candle you'll have.
Other important items to have on hand: batteries, matches, and wicks. In fact, did you know you can make a DIY wick by using a cotton string from a mop head? It will absorb the needed oil and work like a charm. Lastly, don't forget the built-in flashlight on your smartphone.
A final tip: always keep a close watch on any and all makeshift lighting solutions. Just as candles can have a bad reputation for causing house fires, as you might guess, candle hacks can be just as dangerous.
If You Need Me This Summer, You Can Find Me in This Inflatable Hammock With a Headrest
Chances are, you've seen people running around in a park or at the beach attempting to inflate one of those blow-up lounge chairs. I, for one, haven't tested them out yet, but I'm committed to the cause after spotting a particularly cute and comfy-looking one on Amazon. This Inflatable Lounger Hammock With Headrest ($30) checks all the boxes: it's designed with a summery print, seems easy to inflate, is waterproof, and has a headrest (!). Sorry, everyone, I am canceling all my Summer plans in favor of reading and taking naps.
The lounge chair comes with a bag to carry it in once it's deflated, so it's easy to transport. It even has a pocket for your phone, laptop, or book and a bottle holder so you can stay hydrated during your very demanding chill session. Reviewers seem to be loving it for camping and beach trips, but the backyard will do just fine, too.
Purple and Silver Toning Shampoo to Keep That Blond Hair Blond
You might have heard about toning shampoo before, but do you know why blondes need it? Also known as purple shampoo, it helps fight off all those orange and brassy tones that often develop after you've dyed your hair a lighter shade. And unless you're going for the brassy look, people typically want to get rid of it. Because the shampoos are typically purple, blue, and gray, they can help cancel out the warm shades on the hair. Interested in trying one for yourself? Invest in some of these choices.

I Didn't Know I Needed a Lip Scrub, Until I Tried This One
Having dry lips is one of my beauty pet peeves. I won't leave the house without some kind of moisturizing lip gloss or balm, and I try to stay away from matte liquid lipsticks because I hate the way they feel on my mouth. Looking to take my beauty game to the next level, I recently started exploring lip scrubs. After a DIY disaster (don't ask), I knew I wanted something portable that wouldn't get messy. Whenever I talk to fellow POPSUGAR staffers about their favorite Beauty by POPSUGAR products, everyone seems to come back to the Beauty by POPSUGAR Be Smooth Sugar Lip Scrub ($22), so I gave it a whirl, and let me tell you, this is the real deal.
At first, I was excited about this scrub for the sole reason that I could throw it in my bag, swipe on the clear formula, and stay moisturized forever. It also smells great and adds a nice touch to my morning and nighttime skincare ritual. The chubby stick is large enough to ensure no surface area of your lips goes untouched - if that's not smart and beautiful, I don't know what is.
You might be thinking that all sounds too good to be true, but I have to tell you, this stuff WORKS. It starts off feeling like a cross between a balm and a scrub, and it gets more granular as you continue to use it. The lip scrub relies on natural sugar (obviously) as its exfoliator, so the grains are fine enough to be used on sensitive skin like mine. Within a few weeks of consistent use, my lips really were softer, and it made applying lipstick so much easier. The product is formulated with vitamin C + E extract, which hydrates and brightens, and olive oil to keep the lips nourished. So basically, it's a dream!
These Are the Hip Stretches Your Body Needs Stat
We sit for hours. At desks. In cars. On couches binge-watching new releases on Netflix. All this sitting makes for some seriously tight and achy hips, but we have an easy remedy: stretching, of course. To take care of this joint, you need to lengthen all the muscles around the hips and glutes. Here are nine stretches that will do just that.
It's best to stretch your muscles when your body is warm, so after a workout is ideal. If you're ready to dedicate a stretch session to your hips right now, do a little light cardio - think jumping jacks - and then get to stretching.

Below is the average number of calories contained in the most common liquor brands at a standard 80 proof, 1.5-ounce serving at 40 percent alcohol by volume (ABV). To maximize you efforts, be sure to cut out all the sugary mixers and additives, like soda, sweetened juices, and artificial syrups. Fitbit's Latest Smartwatch Impresses on All Fronts, but Its Look and Price Are What Will Sell You
If the Fitbit Ionic impressed you, just wait until you see the company's latest product. On April 16, 2018, Fitbit released its highly anticipated smartwatch, the Fitbit Versa. Advertised with a completely new, elevated look along with four-plus days of battery life, the newest addition to the Fitbit family is sure to please. So, as soon as I was able to get my hands on one, I immediately put the Versa to the test. My first impression: Fitbit finally nailed it with this one.
From an aesthetics standpoint, I was fully impressed by the Versa's softer clock face and its light weight. Fun fact: the Fitbit Versa is the lightest metal smartwatch in the US. Its similar look to the Apple Watch also makes it competitive on the design front. Opting for a square face with rounded edges (compared to the Ionic's more angular design) was completely intentional and designed with the female consumer in mind, according to Fitbit senior product marketing manager Kat Binder. She shared that considering 60 percent of smartwatch buyers are men, Fitbit wanted to tap into the female market this time around. In addition to releasing a black-on-black aluminum and gray-silver aluminum watch, Fitbit also offers a gorgeous rose gold one that will definitely sway skeptics.
Here are some key features of the Versa, many of which we've already known and loved on previous devices:
- Battery life: There's no need to charge your smartwatch every night because you can enjoy the Versa for a minimum of four days straight. This also means you can wear it while you sleep (and comfortably, might I add), which leads me to . . .
- Onscreen workouts: With the Versa, you have your own personal trainer right on your wrist. Three on-device workouts are included with your device (10-Minute Abs, Seven-Minute Workout, and Warm It Up), while a paid subscription gives you access to multiple trainers, additional workouts, and Fitbit Radio. Your Fitbit Coach will walk you through each move and continue to improve with feedback.
- Auto sleep tracking: Your Versa gives you a deeper look into your bedtime habits by telling you how long you were in light, deep, or REM sleep. See your nightly sleep insights on the Fitbit app, which also explains the importance of each cycle. I learned that I wake up much more often than I should each night, which has encouraged me to switch up my bedtime routine.
- Auto activity tracking: Thanks to the Versa's SmartTrack technology, you don't have to hit "start" in order for your workout to count. Your watch will automatically detect what kind of exercise you're doing without having to log activity yourself.
- Integrated dashboard: The on-device dashboard was redesigned to allow for easy access to your health and fitness data right on your wrist. Now, you can glance at your seven-day exercise summaries, current and resting heart rate, daily stats, and more - all without having to go on the mobile app to find it.
- Connected GPS: Your Fitbit Versa automatically tracks your running and biking pace, distance, and speed using your smartphone's GPS if it's nearby. This is the one downfall to the Versa as the Ionic features built-in GPS.
- 24/7 heart rate tracking: Similar to the Fitbit Ionic, the Versa uses PurePulse technology to provide you with your current and resting heart rate. The new integrated dashboard also allows you to see your seven-day resting heart rate trends on your wrist.
- Water resistance: Feel free to take a bath with your Versa on or jump into the ocean (up to 50 meters) or pool - it's totally safe.
- Phone-free music: You can store up to 300 of your favorite songs directly onto your smartwatch or stream music through Pandora or Deezer. The best part? It's compatible with Bluetooth devices, so you can hook up your wireless headphones without having to carry your phone on a run!
In addition to text/call notification and calendar alerts, you can take personalization to the next level with the various apps (hello, Strava!), the clock faces available, and numerous accessory bands, from stainless steel to leather. And if you're not yet convinced that the Versa is for you, let me just share the price point real quick. The Fitbit Versa starts at $200 (for the black, silver, and rose gold) and goes up to $230 for the special-edition smartwatches, which come in an exclusive charcoal woven and lavender woven band and feature Fitbit (wallet-free) Pay. In comparison to the Apple Watch Series 3 (starting at $329) and the Fitbit Ionic (starting at $300), the cost of the Versa is undeniably competitive.
As if all that weren't enough, coming this Spring are female health tracking and message quick replies for Android users. Ladies, soon we'll be able to get predicted ovulation dates, predicted period dates, menstrual reminders, cycle tracking, and other personal insights. But wait for it . . . you won't even need a Fitbit device to access this data as long as you have the Fitbit mobile app downloaded. As for you Android users, you'll soon be able to reply to texts on your wrist with quick preselected responses or with your own customized replies. Fitbit informed us that they're currently working on a solution for iPhone users.
Overall, the key difference between the Fitbit Versa and the Ionic comes down to looks and cost. The two devices are nearly identical in features, aside from the Ionic's built-in GPS. The Fibit Versa is an affordable option for fitness enthusiasts who want a smartwatch that's more fashion forward. If you don't mind bringing your phone along with you for its GPS, I'd say that the Versa is the way to go. Come on, you can't beat a $200 smartwatch.
Elliptical Workouts For the Beginner to the Advanced
The elliptical is a mainstay in the gym for good reason: it's easy on the joints and it provides a great cardio and total-body workout. But let's face it, the elliptical can also get pretty boring and repetitive. Instead of spending 30 mindless minutes on the machine, maximize your time with one of these 15 workouts. Whether you're a beginner, you're looking for a high-intensity interval workout, or you want to challenge different muscle groups, there's an elliptical workout for you. There's even one for those of you who love the treadmill!
- Beginner: If you're new to the elliptical machine - or working out in general - try this beginning elliptical workout. It uses all the different features of the machine, which gives you an idea of what it can do. By pedaling forward, you work your quads, and going backward targets the hamstrings and booty. Focus on pushing the handles to tone your chest, while pulling the handles will work your upper back. Challenge your core stability by letting go of the handles while keeping your pace steady.
- Start strong, finish strong: This beginner-friendly hour-long elliptical workout varies speed and incline for an effective workout.
- Booty workout: Target glutes and hamstrings by playing with the incline on the elliptical. This elliptical booty workout will help you tone your backside while also getting a good cardio workout. Target your glutes by focusing on keeping your heels down while on the machine.
- Core workout: To work your core while on the elliptical, just let go. Not using the handles in this elliptical core workout helps engage all the muscles of your core as you work harder to stay balanced on the machine. The faster you can go, the more you'll work your core in this.
- Just like the treadmill: For times when you can't find an empty treadmill at the gym, try this elliptical treadmill workout. The workout comes close to mimicking what running on a treadmill feels like and may even help even out your stride. To really feel like you're on a treadmill, don't hold onto the handles; keep your arms in a running position.
- Two-machine workout: Or if the idea of the treadmill bores you, get a fun workout on the other cardio machines at your gym. This stationary bike and elliptical workout will leave you sweaty without the run.
- Short on time: When you don't have a lot of time, try this short interval elliptical workout. It's only 22 minutes long (including warmup and cooldown) and features really short and effective intervals. Using quick intervals makes the workout intense and is great for burning calories.
- Shorter intervals: One way to push the interval envelope is to decrease the amount of rest time between your bouts of sprinting. By shortening your recovery time, you're pushing your anaerobic threshold and strengthening your cardiovascular system. Sound good? Then try this elliptical interval shrinking recovery workout.
- Total body: This 30-minute elliptical workout targets your entire body while also getting your heart rate up.
- Intervals: Do this elliptical interval workout when you only have 30 minutes to spare. It's the best way to get the most out of a short amount of time.
- Lunchtime workout: A quick workout you can fit in during your lunch break is one you have no excuse to miss. This 30-minute lunchtime workout ensures that you have enough time to freshen up in the locker room.
- Get in, get out: Need to go even shorter? Try this 20-minute interval workout to get in and out fast. The intense intervals ensure you're still giving your body a solid workout.
- Rock out: Set your workout to a soundtrack with this one-hour elliptical workout with playlist. You switch speeds with each song so you'll never be bored for the 60 minutes.
- Rock out again: If that playlist isn't your style, here's another hour-long workout set to music.
- Girl power: Channel all your strength and let it out with this killer elliptical workout with a girl power playlist.

This Is the 1 Exercise That Totally Transformed My Butt - and It's Not a Squat
When I first started training my glutes regularly, I actually wasn't trying to grow my butt. I have some lower-back issues because I have scoliosis, and doing functional training on your glutes is a sure-fire way to reduce lower-back pain. Watching my booty get bigger and juicier each month was the very sweet cherry on top.
There are countless lower-body exercises out there that promise to give you a bodacious butt. But there's one in particular that's rightfully hailed the king of all glute exercises - and that's the hip thrust. It isolates the glutes much more than squats and lunges, and it forces you to really squeeze your butt at the top of the movement. Doing hip thrusts twice a week totally transformed my booty, and I saw a big difference when I switched my focus from squats to hip thrusts.
If you've never done hip thrusts before, just know it might take a little while to get used to the movement. When I work on hip thrusts with my clients, I always tell them that the first challenge is learning to really engage your glutes, rather than relying on your quads to drive the weight up. But when you finally train your body to feel that tension in your booty, you'll see a big difference. Here's how to do a hip thrust.
- Sitting on the floor with your legs extended, rest your back against a stable bench.
- Place a towel or shoulder cushion on the bar for comfort (optional). Roll the barbell over your thighs until the bar is directly above your hip joints.
- Brace your core. As you drive your heels into the ground, squeeze your glutes, lifting your hips up to full extension, meaning your hips are even with your knees.
- With control, lower back down to the ground.
- This is one rep.
- Do four sets of 12 reps.
You may have to experiment with what weight to use when you start doing this exercise. Make sure the last two reps are difficult to do, and if they're not, increase your weight. Here's an important mechanic to keep in mind: make sure you're keeping your hips slightly tucked throughout this movement, rather than sticking out your butt and hyperextending. This will encourage you to really squeeze your glutes and get the full range of motion.
Start doing hip thrusts once a week, and if that feels good, you can increase it to twice a week. If you feel like you need a pair of expert eyes, don't be afraid to ask a trainer at your gym for some help.

Working Out and Eating Right but Can't Lose Weight? You May Be Able to Blame It on Your Brain
If you've found diet and exercise ineffective for weight loss, it could just be the way your brain is wired. Turns out the brain has significant power over our weight, metabolism, and appetite - particularly the hypothalamus region, which essentially acts as the mission control center. It influences everything from our body temperature to thirst and hunger. And according to neurologist Dr. Jason McKeown, it's very difficult to override what's already been determined by your mind.
"The brain has a clear view of how much food we need to eat and how much we should weigh, and any attempts that people may make to alter this through diet and exercise alone won't necessarily help you achieve the results you're looking for," Dr. McKeown told POPSUGAR.
Basically, when you eat less, you're signaling to your body that food is scarce. Instead of guiding weight loss, it'll do the exact opposite by increasing your appetite and slowing down your metabolism to conserve fat. A study tested this theory in mice and confirmed that we've been biologically trained to resist dieting. It could be because our ancestors needed to develop this trait to survive famines.
Dr. McKeown also advised against following low-calorie diets for weight loss, saying that they're "almost always destined to fail" at producing long-term results. "Your brain has adjusted to a higher weight having spent years eating certain kinds of foods - perhaps high in sugar and saturated fats - and it becomes more and more difficult to make any major changes by altering only your diet or adding exercise. Promoting and sustaining wellness in your body is just as much mental as it is the result of healthy eating and exercise."
Additionally, because our brain knows how much food we need to eat and how much we should weigh, it also means it's able to override and resist weight-loss attempts. This is why there are people who can eat whatever they want without gaining weight; they're just programmed at a lower body-fat range.
"It's also why when people go on a diet and lose a certain amount of weight, they often plateau and, in the majority of cases, see their weight creep back up again," Dr. McKeown said. "Their brain is unhappy with the new lower weight and will resist the change."
How to Reset Your Brain
Though a healthy diet and exercise are critical for long-term health, a "slow and sustainable approach" to weight loss is most effective. As the CEO of Modius, a technology solution that promotes weight loss through vestibular stimulation, Dr. McKeown has looked to neurotechnology to help others rid excess body weight. Outside of this, he shared that we can retrain our brain by adopting and consistently maintaining healthy lifestyle choices, including reducing sugar and carbs, drinking more water, exercising regularly, and adopting better sleep habits.
"Unfortunately, we tend to think that rapid weight loss is the goal, but actually small but consistent changes over a long period, in my opinion, will lead to better overall health."

I Cut This Out of My Diet to Lose Weight and, No, It's Not Carbs
I'd always believed that things like coconut oil and olive oil were part of a healthy diet. I ate them regularly with just about every meal - I cooked with olive oil, spread coconut oil on my toast, and drizzled avocado oil on my hummus. A few months ago, though, I learned that oil is technically not part of a whole-foods, plant-based diet. I was shocked to learn that there was virtually no nutritional value to the oils that we're so used to eating on a daily basis.
Julieanna Hever, MS, RD, CPT, a plant-based dietician and health and fitness expert, confirmed that this is true. "Oils are a processed food," Hever told POPSUGAR. "Basically, the fat is stripped out of the intact food (be it an olive, coconut, or avocado), leaving behind the fiber and many other nutrients."
Hever also reminded us that oil "contains 120 calories per tablespoon, almost 2,000 calories per cup!" But even worse than that, there isn't any satiating fiber in oil, so eating oil regularly is an easy way to consume way more calories than your body needs - and that can quickly lead to weight gain.
This was hard for me to believe at first, but I decided to go cold turkey and cut out all oil from my diet. It was strange at the beginning. I thought I wouldn't be able to roast vegetables or even sauté an onion. You'd be surprised, though, to find that lots of foods release their own natural water or oil, so you don't even need something like olive oil to cook most things. For example, onion naturally contains oil that's responsible for its smell and taste, and you can see it being slightly released when you sauté it in a pan with nothing else. Besides, if I felt like some foods were sticking too much to the pan while I was cooking, I would simply add a little bit of water.
After two months of eating no oil at home and very little oil while eating out, I noticed my belly was a bit flatter than it was before. It was a small change, but it was a gradual one that became more noticeable over time.
That being said, healthy fats are an important part of our diet, and Hever says we shouldn't ignore them completely. "The best food sources of healthy, disease-fighting fats are nuts and seeds," she said. "We only need about one to two ounces a day to meet our essential fatty acid requirements." You can also opt in for some avocado in your dish rather than cooking with oil.
I upped my intake of avocado after I gave up oil, while also logging in all my food to the macros app on my phone to make sure I was getting enough healthy fats. Between avocado, almonds, and chia and flaxseeds, I was getting more than enough of what I needed.
"Because of their high caloric density, I recommend minimizing intake of oils," Hever said. It could save you a lot of empty calories that you really don't need.

Before You Crack Open That Bottle of Wine, See How Many Carbs You're About to Drink
It feels like no matter the time of year, someone is always having a get-together or party, which means celebrating with endless amounts of food and alcohol alike. Yes, this is one of the reasons parties are so much fun, let's be real. But this can be quite the setback for anyone trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle or especially tricky for someone still trying to cultivate the healthy habits that grow from consistency.
In order to indulge without the latent regret, make a few healthy swaps, starting with alcohol. Not every drink is created equal, and that's obvious when you get down to the carb content in each drink. Carb-heavy drinks spike your bloody sugar and make you crave more carbs, and this is when you drunkenly turn to the bread basket and throw caution to the wind and inhale the whole thing before Grandma gets a roll. Refer to this list before choosing your next go-to drink and avoid those pesky holiday pounds.

Fun fact: the two were actually set up by Gloria Estefan's husband, Emilio Estefan. "He kept talking to me about a guy that he knew and I should meet him because we're like two drops of water and he kept saying the same thing to Tommy. I was like, 'What am I going to do with a guy who just got divorced and has kids?' and he was like, 'What am I going to do with a singer and an actress?'" she told HuffPost in 2011. "I was in New York for just one night, so we met for drinks and the rest is history." Clearly, Thalia and Tommy fell in love at first sight, but the two work hard at their relationship, with Thalia saying respecting each other and developing memories together are keys to their success. Their love is endless, and it totally shows in these photos.

The Defy Sneakers are currently available online and in select stores. See pictures of Selena's ethereal - and athletic, naturally - campaign and shop the interesting new style ahead.
