Melania Trump Wore a Highly Insensitive Jacket While Visiting the Border, and *Deep Sigh*
Melania Trump is certainly no stranger to stirring up controversy with her outfit choices. The first lady famously wore sky-high stilettos while visiting Hurricane Harvey victims last year, the internet still hasn't forgiven her for sporting a $1,380 Balmain shirt to a hands-on gardening event at the White House, and who could forget the time she wore a bright-pink pussy-bow blouse just days after footage surfaced of her husband instructing Billy Bush to "grab" women by that very private body part?
The FLOTUS's latest style move, however, might just take the number one spot as her most questionable one to date. On June 21, Melania made a surprise trip to Texas to visit facilities that house migrant children following a firestorm of backlash to Trump's inhumane migrant family separation policy. While boarding the plane to head toward the US-Mexican border, she wore a white long-sleeved shirt, white jeans, and Adidas sneakers, finishing the look with the tone-deaf pièce de résistance: a green parka that read "I Really Don't Care, Do U?" in enormous white lettering on the back. Yup, you read that correctly, folks. Appalling is an understatement.
The hooded Zara jacket, which is no longer available for purchase on the retailer's website, seemed to send a loud-and-clear message as the first lady boarded the plane with cameras right there to capture the moment. Thankfully, she did swap out the distasteful outerwear for a blush-pink number once she touched down in Texas, but it was too late: the internet already took note and started expressing outrage over the insensitive move.
Melania's spokesperson, Stephanie Grisham, soon after responded to said outrage on Twitter, writing, "If media would spend their time & energy on her actions & efforts to help kids - rather than speculate & focus on her wardrobe - we could get so much accomplished on behalf of children. #SheCares #ItsJustAJacket." Ahead, see Melania's green jacket in action, followed by a handful of Twitter reactions.
When Blake Lively Steps on the Red Carpet, You Know Every Photographer Will Scream Her Name
Blake Lively doesn't use a stylist, and honestly, she doesn't need one. Of course, after starring on the hit series Gossip Girl, Blake likely picked up a fashion tip or two. The star's been hitting the red carpet since the early 2000s and has an eye for designer gowns.
Blake has worn creations from fashion houses such as Chanel, Dior, Versace, and Gucci, and shows no signs of slowing down. When it comes to jewels, she usually relies on Lorraine Schwartz. (The jeweler even designed Blake's engagement ring.) No matter what the actress wears, you can expect the paparazzi to go into a frenzy over her amazing outfits. And best of all, she can say she picked them out herself. See all her best red carpet moments ahead.
Victoria Beckham's Pepto Bismol Pink Dress Is JUST What the Doctor Ordered
Victoria Beckham's NYC agenda included an appearance at the Forbes Women's Summit, where it's safe to say she made an impression in this bright pink dress ($794). Victoria must've worked the room in the look from her own collection, which she coordinated with her Dorothy pumps in teal ($680) and her signature Céline visor top sunglasses.
If millennial pink was already a go-to for you, allow Victoria to lead you off the beaten path toward a shade that's as close to a Pepto Bismol bottle as you can possibly get - but also, in our opinion, incredibly chic. Work a design as standout as this one with equally bold shoes in a slightly darker tone, and don't even worry about accessories. If you want to get loud and proud this Summer, Victoria's dress is your microphone.

10 Intermittent Fasting Success Stories That Will Convince You to Try This Eating Plan
Humans have been practicing intermittent fasting, or IF for short, since the start of time, but now it's become an incredible tool in the fitness world! The beauty in intermittent fasting is that you can eat whatever your heart desires because it's not meant to be a diet. It's more of an eating pattern, if that's what you want to call it. You can eat high-carb, high-fat, keto, Paleo, IIFYM, intuitive eating, and the list goes on and on. The goal at the end of the day with IF is to have an eating window, and once that window is closed, you don't eat any more.
The most common method is the 16 and eight split so you start your fast at any time that best fits into your schedule. Once those 16 hours are over, you have eight hours to eat. Although some people find themselves eating the same amount of calories with IF or without, a lot of people notice a reduction in calorie intake because it's easier to get full faster in a shorter period of time. IF does not lie, because these women have the before-and-after pictures to show how it has transformed their lives.
You'll Never Eat Another Gummy Bear or Marshmallow Again After Hearing What They're Made From
If you look at the ingredients on a package of gummy bears - even organic ones - you'll see expected things like corn or brown rice syrup and sugar. But you'll also see something called gelatin. Seems innocent enough, but its source might surprise you. Gelatin is a yellowish, odorless, and nearly tasteless substance that is made by prolonged boiling of skin, cartilage, and bones from animals. It's made primarily from the stuff meat industries have left over - we're talking about pork skins, horns, and cattle bones. Ugh.
I guess if you're into the philosophy of using the whole animal, you'll be psyched about this. Plus gelatin contains 18 amino acids, so it does offer some nutritional benefits. But if you're vegan, you'll definitely want to skip the chewy candies and your great-aunt's Jell-O mold - they're made with gelatin, too. This animal-derived ingredient can also be found in some vitamins and medications, marshmallows (not Trader Joe's - they're vegan!), cheeses, yogurts, soups, salad dressings, jams and jellies, fruit snacks, and canned hams. If this tidbit of info grosses you out, you'll want to pay closer attention to these products' food labels.

6 Reasons Behind Unintended Weight Loss, According to a Doctor
Many people would jump up and down in excitement if they saw the scale taking a drop. But weight loss isn't always a good thing, especially if you're not taking the steps to actually make it happen. Health conditions and related factors can cause weight loss at a rapid pace. Everyone's body is different, but losing five percent of your body weight after six months is generally a cause for concern in medical reviews. However, if you notice that you're losing weight much quicker than indicated in your weight-loss plan, talk with a clinician.
Keep in mind that there are many reasons someone could be losing pounds, but these are just a couple of the more familiar ones. Brian Secemsky, MD, an internal medicine physician at OneMedical, filled us in on some of the reasons you could be experiencing unintended weight loss.
Stress and Mental Health Conditions
"Some people are stress eaters, but some people are the exact opposite," Secemsky said. "They will eat less and avoid foods that give them pleasure because they feel they need to hold off on it until they're happy." People who get stressed - from work, family, etc. - may drink a lot of caffeine, which is an appetite reducer.
However, it can go beyond stress. People with depression, anxiety, and mental health conditions may experience loss of appetite. Many of these people lose interest in things they love, and that can include food.
Thyroid Issues
An underactive thyroid is linked with making it extremely difficult to lose weight. On the other hand, an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) can cause just the opposite reaction. Each condition also causes other issues, so you'll want to talk to your doctor about any major weight problems.
One of the best things you can do is keep a symptom journal, Secemsky said. If you notice unintended weight loss, keep track of other changes, even if you don't think they're related. Telling your doctor about your fever, hair loss, changes in urination, and even a cough can have bigger implications than you realize. For example, sensations of cold or heat could be linked to thyroid issues.
Celiac Disease
People with celiac disease can't eat gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley (basically your favorite carbs). When they do eat gluten, the body sends a response that attacks the small intestine. "You can't digest certain foods and you also have this chronic inflammation going on," Secemsky said. This can defer eating and cause other stomach issues, leading to weight loss. Consider gluten-free desserts your new best friends!
Medications
"Medications, recreational and prescribed, can also cause unintended weight loss for various reasons," Secemsky explained. Some cause nausea or dry mouth, and others directly cause unintended weight loss. So look at what medications you're taking, as well as your medication history, if you've noticed a drastic weight change.
Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes (specifically when it's undiagnosed) can cause rapid weight loss. The glucose in the bloodstream doesn't get into the cells of someone with the condition. Therefore, their body isn't getting those nutrients. That extra glucose can also cause a patient to urinate more and become dehydrated, Secemsky explained. All of this can cause a lower number on the scale.
Substance Abuse
"Particularly, if patients are using stimulant medications like cocaine, unprescribed use of ADHD medications, and even caffeine, they can be appetite inhibitors," Secemsky said. For some recreational drug use, the addiction is so strong that people forgo eating, whether it be financial reasoning or they just use the time to do more drugs. Researchers from the University of Cambridge even found that cocaine may reduce the body's ability to store fat.
Many of us could say that we would love to lose a couple of pounds; however, only you truly know your body's "normal." So if it seems off, always reach out to your doctor. And, yes, that includes when you think you're losing weight a little too quickly!
The Truth About Whether or Not All That Protein You're Eating Is Affecting Your Weight
When trying to lose weight, many people will turn to high-protein diets. Protein is good for you, right? It helps you feel fuller longer so you're less likely to overeat. It slows down the absorption of sugar, curbing those late-night junk-food cravings, plus it promotes muscle growth.
But recent studies have shown that there is another side to protein dieting. It is quite possible to eat too much protein. A few years ago, a study was published that showed that adults with diets made up of more than 20 percent protein saw a weight gain of 10 percent of their body weights, and too much protein does have the potential to contribute to the risk of both heart disease and high cholesterol levels.
"Your body can turn excess calories from too much protein into fat. Anything in excess can be harmful to you, so it's best to maintain moderation when it comes to your health," Boston University biology research graduate Alyssa Bunce told POPSUGAR. Bunce explains that the bottom line is to keep everything in check. Having chicken or fish for dinner is definitely better for weight loss than something high in carbs and fats; just be sure to get a proper portion of every food group and don't take in more calories than you need.
Conversely, for those looking to gain weight in a healthy manner, protein is a smart way to go. Just remember to be vigilant about continuing intake of other nutrients. Make a protein smoothie, eat salmon or red meat, and drink milk, but also be sure you're getting enough carbs and starches.
Whether you're looking to gain, lose, or maintain weight, it's always important to keep a balanced diet. Too much or too little of anything can be a bad thing.

Here's the example Jillian gave us: "30 seconds of push-ups to 30 seconds of weighted squats to 30-second mountain climbers." Keep These 8 Diet-Busting Foods Off Your Plate If You Want to Lose Weight
When it comes down to choosing the right foods, you might think that ones that are normally touted as "healthy" should be good for you. Unfortunately, many foods have gotten this positive reputation, but could be a sugar or fat calorie bomb in disguise, or they might be hazardous to your health if eaten in excess. The good news is that we had a few dietitians weigh in on a few misleading "superfoods," so you can better manage your diet and portion control, keeping everything in balance.
Coconut Water
"Sometimes referred to as nature's sports drink, coconut water is superhigh in potassium, which is great for preventing cramps during VERY strenuous workouts but lower in sodium than a typical sports drink, which you also need to replenish during and after a prolonged workout," explains Lauren Harris-Pincus, MS, RDN, author of The Protein-Packed Breakfast Club, to POPSUGAR. "The problem is that short of professional athletes and those working out for several hours at a time, it's unnecessary and contains about 60-120 calories per 11-14 ounce bottle. Also, many people don't like the taste so it's tough to consume enough to rehydrate properly. So for a regular workout at the gym, stick with water," she says.
Rice Cakes
"Often thought of as a super-low-calorie food for dieters, rice cakes are sorely lacking in nutrition, fiber, and flavor. Since it takes a ton of nut butter, jelly, hummus, or other toppings to make them taste better, the calorie count can skyrocket quickly, especially since you need to eat several to feel any satisfaction," says Harris-Pincus. "And the flavored varieties can pack a lot of sodium and sugar without any significant nutritional benefit," she adds, so you'll need to be cautious when it comes to labels, too.
Dried Fruit
Not all dried fruit is created equal, and it takes some supermarket sleuthing to figure out which ones are better choices. "Adding raisins or other unsweetened dried fruits to oatmeal, yogurt, or salads is a great way to pump up the nutrition and fiber in your diet. However, make sure there is no sugar added (with the exception of cranberries that are too tart to eat plain)," says Harris-Pincus. "One brand of dried mango contains 160 calories and 32 grams of sugar in six slices (1.5 ounces)," she says. Definitely read your labels here.
Granola
"For some reason granola cereal has always had a health halo around it, but the problem is that not all varieties are healthy choices. There are many brands that are packed with added sugar and are high in calories," Keri Gans, MS, RDN, CDN tells POPSUGAR. "Breakfast cereals, like granola, should instead be high in fiber, which may lower cholesterol, help stabilize blood sugars, and promote bowel regularity, not added sugar," she says.
Green Juice
"Just because a juice promotes that it contains green veggies or other colorful veggies, it doesn't mean that the juice is actually providing a single serving of veggies. If you read the nutrition facts label on many brands, you may find that they actually contain zero percent of many important nutrients, such as vitamin A or vitamin C, and only provide extra calories," says Gans. "So read labels before buying, and look for a brand that contains at least one serving of veggies, such as a 5.5-ounce can of V8 Original vegetable juice, which provides 15 percent of the RDA of vitamin A and 60 percent of vitamin C," she suggests.
Salmon
Take note: this is for farm-raised only, not wild-caught salmon, which is totally good for you. "If you're eating farm-raised salmon, you may be getting plenty of omega-3s but also more saturated fat than in wild-caught," says Kelly R. Jones MS, RD, CSSD, LDN to POPSUGAR. Here's the real issue though: "Some farm-raised varieties are artificially dyed pink and others have been found to have traces of antibiotics used to treat the fish in their crowded conditions. According to the Environmental Working Group, imported farmed salmon is also one of the top five foods with the worst environmental footprint," she says. Be sure to check labels, and stay safe.
Bottled Salad Dressing
"Don't get me wrong: some bottled salad dressings that don't contain a ton of weird ingredients and aren't loaded with sugar are perfectly OK. But others contain lots of weird ingredients, like high fructose corn syrup, emulsifiers, and artificial coloring," Natalie Rizzo, MS, RD tells POPSUGAR. "It's so easy to just whisk together oil and vinegar and have a salad dressing from scratch. Don't mess up your healthy salad by dressing it with a funky bottled salad dressing," she says.
Trail Mix
"I don't really understand why trail mix is marketed as healthy because it usually is just nuts with candy," says Rizzo. "Yes, if you're spending the afternoon hiking, feel free to have the extra sugar. But for people who eat this snack at their desk or on their couch, it's no better than eating some candy with nuts on the side. In other words, it's full of sugar and calories that you likely don't need in a snack," she says.

33 Sure Signs That You're an Empath
Do you pick up on the vibe of a room the moment you walk in? Can you almost always tell when someone is lying? Do you just generally have A LOT of feelings? You're probably an empath. You may be familiar with the spectrum of personality types between introverts and extroverts, but empaths are a whole other type of personality you may not know about. Empaths are often (but not always) more introverted, but the key aspect of the personality type is an empath's ability to relate to and absorb the feelings of other people. Empaths are extremely sensitive to their surroundings, and they are very affected by the energies of those around them.
There are positives to being an empath; for instance, they are sympathetic, caring, and understanding. They are intuitive and have the ability to influence the mood and energy around them. Empaths are good listeners and caretakers, and they are known for their compassion for others. However, being an empath definitely has its challenges. Because they are so sensitive, they can sometimes have difficulty differentiating other people's energy from their own. Commercials, movies, books, TV, the news, seeing the struggles of others - anything with an emotional element can affect empaths on a deeper level. Outside circumstances and situations can have a huge impact on the mental - and even physical - state of an empath. Empaths can unconsciously mirror other people's habits and moods, and for better or worse, they can soak up the energy around them. Empaths need to make sure to care for themselves in addition to caring for the rest of the world. Here are some signs you're an empath.

How Moving 6 Times in 3 Years Made Me a Minimalist
Nearly three years ago, I stood in my parents' garage watching strangers sift through my things while I tried not to cry. I had just ended a toxic relationship with an abusive partner, but he was also my first love, and we were happy once. We shared an apartment (my first) for three years, and now I was getting rid of all its furnishings. Each item I sold triggered dozens of memories, both good and bad, and I sold them all.
Since then, I've lived in three different time zones and each move was more intense than the one that came before it. I moved from Missouri to Brooklyn with nothing but a suitcase and my laptop bag, then six months later, I gave away all my furniture and moved back to Missouri with the same ensemble. Nine months passed before a troubling cocktail of violent neighbors and bed bugs led me to burn all my furniture and move into my parents' basement. And less than one year after that fiasco, I drove across the country to pursue a job in Los Angeles - with only $300 in my bank account and a couple of suitcases in my trunk. I drove back across the country five months later to visit family and save up for my own place, and after two months in Missouri, I was finally able to afford my own apartment in Long Beach. I packed my car as full as I could and gave away the things that didn't fit and headed back to the West Coast.
The past three years have been as stressful as they have been adventurous, but the whole experience has taught me so much about letting go of things - literally. Don't get me wrong, I still like to hang art on my walls and I own five pairs of earrings, but I've sold, gifted, or burned most of my earthly possessions over the past three years, and it's helped me realize that my viewpoint on minimalism was extremely skewed for a long time. I used to equate a minimalist lifestyle with scarcity and boredom, but moving six times in three years made me realize it's actually just a functional, sustainable, and peaceful way to live.
Since all of my clothes, shoes, and accessories can fit into one large suitcase these days, I rarely agonize over what I'm going to wear. I own fewer dishes and towels than I used to, so I'm more motivated to wash my dishes daily and I'm less likely to let my laundry pile up. And because I try not to hang onto too many things that I don't use regularly, I could pack up my entire apartment in a day if needed. But perhaps more importantly than all of that, embracing minimalism has given me a sense of peace that I didn't have before. I know now that I could lose most of my possessions and still be completely OK, because I don't actually need that much to live well, and stuff can (usually) be replaced.
I'm certainly not the most hardcore minimalist you'll ever meet, but I have picked up a few tricks along my journey. Here are just a few of my tips for getting started:
- If you feel overwhelmed by your pantry, closet, garage, storage unit, etc., set a timer for 30 minutes and just do what you can.
- If you haven't worn something in six months, give it to someone who will.
- If you've never read a book you own, and don't particularly want to read it, donate it to someone who will/does.
- If you have Spotify, Apple Music, or any streaming service, gift, sell, or toss those CDs you've been hanging onto. You don't need them.
- If you are stockpiling old Christmas cards, receipts, hair elastics that have lost stretchiness, or anything else on this list, just get rid of it.
It took moving six times in three years for me to understand that minimalism isn't about doing without, it's about simplifying your life and learning how to let go. With a few notable exceptions, my happiness and security aren't tied to the things I own. For me, that's what embracing minimalism is all about.
