Disney World Now Offers Princess Makeovers For Adults, So Grab Your Crown and Go!
Disney princess makeovers aren't just for kids anymore. While fans of the Disney parks may be familiar with the adorable beauty services offered for children at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, it appears Disney World is now offering princess makeovers for adults too. The boutique is still reserved for little ones, but you can transform into your favorite heroine using the "Character Couture" packages offered at Senses Spa locations throughout the resort.
The park's guest services manager, Joseph Motowidlak, told Today the makeover service launched in October 2017 for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, but Disney decided to keep it year round after seeing the response.
"We really saw a need for some kind of transformative makeover experience for people of all ages - something customized to allow guests to really enjoy their day on our property," Motowidlak said.
According to the Disney Parks blog, spa guests can receive nail, hair, and makeup treatments inspired by a variety of familiar characters. Prices start at $50, with a full package costing $120. Your options aren't just limited to princesses, either; visitors can transform into iconic villains, galactic characters, and other "hero/heroine" styles. Whether you're amping up the glam for Disney's Halloween festivities or simply want to spend a normal day in your favorite princess's glass slippers, these makeovers are worth checking out. Watch the video above from Disney Parks blog to see the process go down - just look at that cute Minnie Mouse hairstyle.

We love it on eyes and lips, but it truly shines as a highlighter. Big-time cosmetic brands have made their own highlighters in the popular color, and we rounded up our favorites for you. Not only will these choices help you to get your glow on, but they will also add warmth to your face. Shop these irresistible options.

The Craziest Sh*t Hair Removal Technicians Have Ever Seen
While you may dread your monthly Brazilian as much as you do flu season, there's no reason to fear the call of the wax strip. Hair removal technicians of all varieties - those who wax, laser, or sugar - have seen it all. As Melanie Coba, brand ambassador for European Wax Center, told POPSUGAR, "I think of waxing as procedural, and I don't judge my guests' reaction to hair removal appointments."
For those of you who prefer a fur-free existence (and if you don't, that's cool too), here are five stories that prove your muscle clenching and watery eyes just do not compare to the wildest things hair removal technicians have ever seen.
I Fasted 16 Hours a Day For 1 Week - Here's What It Actually Felt Like
The first thing that comes to mind when I hear the words intermittent fasting (IF) is deprivation. It sounds virtually unappealing to a serial snacker like myself. After doing extensive research on IF, though, I quickly learned there's a broad range of benefits associated with trying this fast such as weight loss (especially stubborn lower-belly fat), lowering blood sugar, improving cognitive health and memory, decreasing inflammation, increasing energy, curbing sugar cravings, and the perk that sold me instantly: better sleep!
There are a few fasting protocols one could follow, such as the 5:2 plan (eat normally for five days while eating only 500 to 600 calories on the other two days); alternate fasting, where you switch between periods of consuming zero-calorie foods and beverages and actually eating whole foods; and the most popular fast, which I opted for, the 16:8 plan (16-hour fast and an eight-hour feasting period). I've tried 24-hour fasting in the past where I've failed miserably, so I was curious to see if IF would be any different.
Sydney Axelrod, an NYC registered dietitian at Mount Sinai, told POPSUGAR, "If we're constantly eating, then our body will always be in the 'fed' state, which tells our brain we don't need to use our stored energy aka burn fat. It's also great to take a break from eating so often so our bodies can focus on other processes, like regulating hormones, decreasing stress, and reducing inflammation". As a person who eats every hour on the hour, this poses a great challenge.
Another great challenge for me is maintaining muscle mass. I have a thin frame naturally, so I've been weight training for years to gain muscle and build strength. However, Korey Rowe, a certified personal trainer at Dogpound Gym, said, "You'll have to fast a very long time (72+ hours) for your body to begin breaking down muscle tissue. The key is to strength train in the morning (during your fasting period) to boost human growth hormone. That particular hormone shifts your body into a fat-burning state while forming new muscle and maintaining mass while experiencing favorable changes in body composition".
Below is a personal account of my week-long intermittent fasting experience:
Day 1: Am I Alive?
I woke up at 5 a.m. this morning out of pure angst at the thought of not being able to eat until noon. I made the executive decision to utilize my time wisely and take a Vinyasa flow yoga class at 9 a.m. I can't confidently say this was a great boss move because during the class I felt a little lightheaded, but I will say it did help calm my mind and take away from my hunger pains. I ate my last meal at 8 p.m. last night, my yoga class was about an hour long, so finishing up at 10:05 a.m. took up a good chunk of time where my mind (and stomach) wasn't so focused on consuming food. I ate an avocado and egg sandwich around noon, chugged water religiously, and snacked on macadamia nuts around 3:30-4 p.m. I finished my night off with a cup of tea and Pop chips at 8 p.m. I survived the first day. I'm alive.
Day 2: Headaches Galore
I broke fast at 14 hours because I woke up with a knocking headache. I tried drinking more water, which didn't help much at all. In fact, it only made me more annoyed because I was getting up out of my bed every five minutes to use the bathroom. I ate avocado toast at 10 a.m. to help get rid of this headache, which did nothing. Also, I'm 100 percent sure I drank at least one gallon of water before noon to try and kick this headache, but the headache won that fight. I had a smoothie for lunch with a few handfuls of macadamia nuts. I didn't feel as hungry today as I did yesterday, which was weird for me because I'm always hungry, but I didn't force myself to eat. I listened to my body and ate what I felt was decent at that moment.
At 8 p.m., I ate a light spinach salad with eggs, shredded cucumber, a little pecorino cheese, and hemp seeds tossed in lemon zest olive oil.
Day 3: Feeling Refreshed
I woke up today feeling ah-mazing! I felt refreshed and well-rested, which for me is an absolute perk because I've always had trouble sleeping through the night. No headache, no hunger pains. I think this feeling stemmed from the fact that I was not eating right before I went to bed. What I'm extremely impressed with is my lack in cravings. As stated before, I'm a serial snacker who can eat potato chips at any hour, any day of the week. The fact that I hadn't had a single urge to grab a bag is pretty darn impressive.
I broke fast 12 p.m. I opted for two bananas and made a fresh green juice at home. I ate a full meal about 45 minutes later.
Day 4: Feeling Like the Hulk
I woke up with so much energy that I decided to take a HIIT class. I grew up a competitive athlete, so I'm not new to weightlifting by any means. However, I was hesitant about training heavy on an empty stomach. But I went in with an open mind and felt great. I was amazed at how much energy I had. I was able to increase my weight with no problem, I blasted through all of the circuits like champ, and I felt energized the whole way through. No lightheadedness, no faint feeling at all. I've peaked at drinking a gallon of water before 4 p.m., which is pretty impressive. I had more energy today than I've ever had before, which speaks volumes. Feeling amazing.
I broke fast by eating avocado and salmon toast with eggs, spinach, and pecorino cheese on a fresh baguette.
Day 5-7: Smooth Sailing
Now that I was in the groove, it went rather smoothly. Energy was at 100 percent and I felt lighter and more alert. I'm more mindful of what and when I eat, which is a game changer. I've learned how to control my desires and stay disciplined. I'm enjoying waking up and waiting a little bit before I consume food. There's something about having an empty stomach for just a little while that makes me more alive and conscious of what I'm eating throughout the day. I also think it's helped me enjoy my food more. I didn't lose any weight, but I do notice my body is a a lot leaner and more toned. In fact, I gained a little more muscle, which is awesome. I'm sleeping sounder as well, and that's been the biggest perk. I believe my dreams are more vivid because my mind is clearer. I can see intermittent fasting becoming a part of my life, because the results are there - there's no denying it.
Allison Made This 1 Tweak to Her Diet and It Completely Transformed Her Butt
Allison Murphy always had a hard time gaining weight and maintaining it, regardless of what she ate. "As I got older, I began to despise how long and lanky I was," Allison told POPSUGAR. She realized that working out (something she already loved to do) would give her body more of a shape by adding muscle mass - and that's exactly what she did. Continue reading to learn exactly how Allison transformed her butt.
How Her Diet Changed
Instead of counting calories and obsessing over her diet, Allison said she focused on eating clean and listening to her body's hunger cues. "My meals often consist of all vegetables (there's not one I don't like), rice or quinoa, beans, lentils, and chicken or fish," Allison said. In order to maintain her weight and physique, Allison had to increase the amount of food she was eating, specifically her protein intake, drinking plant-based protein shakes with peanut butter.
The Workout She Did For a Bigger Butt
Allison said that she was very active growing up, participating in activities like dance, horseback riding, and running. "I never really knew much about working out as far as weight training was concerned," Allison explained. Once she started working with her personal trainer, Ryan Read, her knowledge about weightlifting expanded. "When I started, I could only lift or squat the bar by itself, but you've got to start somewhere!" Although her strength was minimal, she began to lift weights three to fives times a week, eventually impressing herself with the progress she had made.
The Workout She Stopped Doing
Allison cut back on the amount of cardio she was doing because it caused her to lose too much weight and muscle mass. Instead, she began to do 15 to 20 minutes of cardio on the StairMaster or walks around her neighborhood a few times a week. She credits Ryan with showing her "the dos and don'ts, as well as certain routines to alter my body in the ways I wanted." As far as her results, Allison said, "The results are addicting; lifting heavier and feeling stronger is one of the most rewarding feelings around."
Ruth Bader Ginsburg's Trainer Reveals How the Justice Stays Super Fit at Age 85
At age 85, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (aka Notorious RBG) is in amazing shape. She works out twice a week with her trainer, Bryant Johnson, ACE, MFT, author of The RBG Workout, with whom she's been training for more than 19 years. Justice Ginsburg's workouts are so tough, Stephen Colbert had a tough time keeping up. And despite her busy schedule, Justice Ginsburg always makes fitness a priority.
"The justice has faced every challenge, from fighting cancer two times to working one of the most challenging jobs there is, and she always makes time to work out and give it her all," Bryant told POPSUGAR. "Don't tell me you are too old; the justice is 85. Don't say you are too busy; the justice has plenty on her plate. My advice would be to not make excuses and just show up and do something; that's a start!"
Although their workouts are a mix of strength training and flexibility work, Bryant revealed the top five exercises he does with the justice. And since Bryant said Justice Ginsburg always shows up and gives it her very best, these moves will inspire you to give it your all. Bookmark these exercises for next time you hit the gym and you'll be working out well into your 80s.
Ana Lost 35 Pounds in 4 Months Eating This 1 Meal Every Single Day
Through college weight gain and three pregnancies, Ana-Maria Klizs told POPSUGAR, "My body has been through the ringer. I've been up and down, but I can honestly say that this is the first time in a long time, maybe ever, where I feel completely balanced, and this is the first time I've ever been strong." Keep reading to learn how she lost 35 pounds.
Doing Abs After Your Workout Is a No-No - Here's When You Should Actually Train Them
You've probably been taught that before starting a workout, you should warm up by rolling out and doing a few dynamic exercises, and then jump into your workout. I hate to break it to you, but there's an important piece that's being left out of your warmup: activating your core.
You've probably heard "activate your core" hundreds of times in yoga and HIIT classes alike. Your instructors aren't just telling you to do this to impress you. They're saying it because our abdominal muscles play an integral role in movements like getting out of bed, walking, running, and picking things up. Continue reading to find out more about the anatomy of the core and why it's important to activate your abdominal muscles before working out.
Why Your Ab Muscles Are So Important
Your abdominal muscles are made up of your external obliques, internal obliques, transversus abdominis, and rectus abdominis. These muscles form a wall protecting your internal organs and help support the muscles of your spine, allowing you to maintain an erect posture. Your oblique muscles are responsible for side flexion and rotation of your torso, whereas your transverse abdominis muscles are responsible for the stabilization of the lumbar spine and pelvis before upper- and lower-body movements happen. The rectus abdominis muscle, commonly referred to as your six-pack, is an important postural muscle. The abdominal muscles also help with essential tasks like breathing and are turned on when we sneeze, cough, have bowel movements, and give birth. Long story short, your abdominal muscles play an important role in everyday life.
What Activating Your Core Means
The phrase "activate your core" gets thrown around a lot, but what does it really mean and why is it important to do? Core activation simply means using your abdominal muscles to help you perform a series of movements. As you now know, every movement we make, whether it's doing medicine ball slams or sprinting, requires using your core muscles. When your core muscles aren't activated, your form suffers and you increase your risk of injuries.
Take a barbell squat, for example. It's a lower-body exercise that targets your gluteus maximus, quadriceps, and thighs. The movement requires lower-body strength, but without an activated and engaged core, your torso wouldn't be stabilized and you wouldn't be able to hold the weight. Your core is engaged when you lift the weight, lower down into your squat, and stand back up. Without core activation to stabilize your spine, you would more than likely be using your back instead of your legs and glutes to move the weight, which isn't good. By "turning on" your abdominal muscles, not only will you be strengthening your core, but you'll be able to perform exercises more efficiently and with correct form.
How to Activate Your Core
Now that you understand what your abdominal muscles consist of and what activating your core means, it's time to learn how to get your core firing. Before a workout, specifically weightlifting and speed workouts, I lead my clients through a dynamic warmup to get their muscles ready for the load and intensity that awaits them. Once they've completed their drills, they do the following core-activating exercises:
- Plank with knee taps (two sets of 10 reps)
- Plank walkouts (one set of 10 reps)
- Body saws (two sets of 10 reps)
- Glute bridges (two sets of 10 reps)
I have them perform these exercises because they're antirotational (unlike bicycle crunches) and help stabilize the spine. Once they've gone through the core activation exercises, they're ready to workout. These movements alone will suffice as a great ab workout, but that doesn't mean you can't implement more exercises like mountain climbers into your workout.

This Doctor Explains Why Vegetarians Should Do the Keto Diet
If you follow any keto-lovers on Instagram, then you're probably bombarded with mouthwatering photos of bunless burgers, chicken wings, and bacon-wrapped everything. And while meat does play a role in the keto diet, it doesn't have to be the diet's foundation. In fact, it's totally possible to do the keto diet without eating meat.
The keto diet, which is high fat, moderate protein, and super low carb, has helped countless people lose weight and totally transform their lives. Although it's a little more difficult, it's totally possible for vegetarians and vegans to go keto. Especially for vegetarian who still consume eggs and dairy (lacto-ovo vegetarians) - full-fat dairy is a staple of the keto diet.
But not only is the keto diet doable for vegetarians, it's actually advised for those who are diabetic or have metabolic syndrome, which is a cluster of conditions that include high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess abdominal fat, and increased cholesterol levels.
"A well-formulated ketogenic diet has been demonstrated to be very effective in reversing type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome," Steve Phinney, MD, PhD, chief medical officer at Virta Health, told POPSUGAR. "These conditions are increasingly common, even in vegetarians."
Dr. Phinney and his colleagues treat type 2 diabetes patients with the keto diet at the Virta Clinic. Patients who followed a keto diet under medical supervision at the Virta Clinic saw a reduction in blood sugar levels, heart disease risk factors, and fatty liver and less dependency on medications. They also had lower markers for inflammation.
Since vegetarians can also get heart disease, fatty liver, and diabetes and have inflammation, the keto diet could be helpful to lose weight and get their chronic conditions, including type 2 diabetes, under control. And even though many people assume the keto diet is all meat and cheese, it's actually incredibly veggie-heavy, which works out well for vegetarians.
"We typically instruct our patients to have four to five servings of nonstarchy vegetables per day as part of a well-formulated ketogenic diet," Dr. Phinney explained. "While this seems like a lot to some of our omnivore patients, it's just a normal day for a vegetarian."
Of course, be sure to speak to your doctor and other healthcare providers before making any major dietary changes, including going on the keto diet.
After Trying All the Pills and Creams, This 1 Thing Finally Cleared My Acne in 2 Weeks
I'll never forget when I was babysitting one day after college and the tiny 1-year-old pointed to a monstrosity of a zit on my chin. I tried to ignore her and distract her with a toy, but she kept pointing. The mother looked at me sympathetically and just said, "Yep, she has a boo-boo."
At that point, it had been well over 10 years since I had experienced bad breakouts. I didn't have terrible acne that covered my face, but my issue was that I always had a few enormous, Rudolf-the-red-nosed-reindeer types of pimples that were deep, painful, and red. There was never a moment when I was zit-free; when one was going away, another few were popping up.
I was so self-conscious because it continued into my 30s, and no over-the-counter remedies or oral contraceptives helped one bit. I saw a dermatologist, determined to clear my skin before my wedding day in August 2008, but the harsh topical medications only made my skin red and irritated, and my skin didn't clear up at all. Into my mid to late 30s, my two pregnancies did help a little (thank you, hormones!), but after each baby was born, the acne would return. I was now 40 years old and still breaking out.
How I Cured My Acne
It wasn't until January 2017, when I gave up sugar for a month for my New Year's resolution, that I experienced soft, clear skin for the first time. I actually gave up sugar not for my skin (I didn't know it would help), but as a personal experiment to heal the belly bloat I had been experiencing for six months that my doctor couldn't figure out.
I not only felt better after the second week, feeling zero bloat and digestive issues, but the acne I've had on my chin since I was 12 years old disappeared. I kept looking in the mirror, waiting for a pimple to pop up, but my skin stayed clear for the rest of the month.
Was This Really the Answer?
After the month was up, I celebrated by splurging on homemade chocolate chip cookies. I mean, living without cake, brownies, ice cream, and chocolate for 30 days was tough. After a week of eating a little white sugar every day, my stomach waged war, and sure enough, so did my face.
I was so happy . . . and also pissed. I couldn't believe I found the one thing to heal my skin and prevent embarrassing breakouts and that it was so simple, but the cure really sucked! No sugar? No ordering dessert after dinner? No more baking? No more chocolate?!
How I Live With the Cure
Because I'm human - and my last name is Sugar - living 100 percent without treats really wasn't an option. I found ways to get my sweet fix without it affecting my face (or my stomach). I discovered how to bake with bananas and dates, making desserts that are just as sweet as using white sugar, and I can still get my chocolate fix by using cocoa powder in recipes. Ice cream is easy - I just make nice cream using frozen fruit.
Honestly, sugary treats just don't feel worth it anymore when they affect me so negatively. Even though I'm tempted when I see people enjoying cake at parties or eating pastries at coffee shops, I get over it real quick because I'm grateful that I've found the one food I can avoid that makes me look and feel healthy. That's not to say I never eat sugar ever. I do enjoy a couple bites every so often (and love every second), but I know how bad I'll feel if I eat a ton, and that prevents me from going overboard.
I wish I knew about this in junior high, because it would have saved me decades of feeling badly about my skin. If you suffer from acne and medications and other treatments haven't worked, sugar may be your issue, too. Wouldn't it be amazing if curing your acne was this simple? You'll never know unless you try. What have you got to lose?

Ever Wonder If Simply Walking More Can Help You Lose Weight? Here's Your Answer
When we think about the things that help us lose weight quickly, our minds automatically go to the more drastic or complicated things: being in a calorie deficit, doing a lot of HIIT cardio, swearing off sugar and soda, etc. But what if there were a simpler way to lose weight? Well, there might be.
Walking may sound like a wildly easy way to exercise, almost to the point where you might not think it has an effect on the body. That's where you're wrong, though. Walking is actually a great form of LISS (low-intensity sustained state) cardio, and if you walk briskly, you'll get your heart rate up, improve your cardiovascular health, and burn calories. You can actually burn up to 120 calories an hour when walking.
Celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak is a huge fan of walking, and encourages many of his clients to do more of it every day. He wants your goal to be 10,000 steps a day if you want to lose weight, and every last one of those steps can be from walking if you want. "That is a minimum," Harley told POPSUGAR. "For a lot of people, this is a real, simple thing to start with. I don't [tell clients] you need to start eating tofu, become gluten intolerant, whatever - just start moving. Be a little more active."
Besides, walking is a safe, risk-free form of exercise that you can do for a long period of time with friends or by yourself if you need some alone time. Just make sure you're walking fast enough to where you're slightly out of breath, but no need to go so fast you're huffing for air.
If you don't believe us yet, Brooke lost over 100 pounds and went from a size 22 to size 12 - and it all started with her walking 10,000 steps a day. So if weight loss is a goal of yours, just try walking more each and every day. Paired with a healthy diet and a good amount of sleep, this will help you reach your goals faster!
If You Despise Cardio, Do These 6 Things to Lose Fat (They're More Effective Anyway!)
You hate running, biking, swimming, HIIT workouts - you name it. If it's cardio, you are so over it. That's OK! Even though a little cardio is good for your cardiovascular system and it can help you burn calories, you don't need to do cardio to lose weight. NASM-certified personal trainer Sam Altieri says to prioritize these six things in this order to lose fat without doing a drop of cardio.
Yes, You Can Lose Belly Fat Without Working Out - Here's How

Experts Say This Is How Much Body Fat and Weight You Could Lose in a Month
There's no one-size-fits-all method to losing weight and lowering your overall body fat percentage. Some people rely on diets like the ketogenic diet to lose weight, while others simply reduce the amount of processed foods they eat and adopt a consistent workout routine. The amount of body fat and weight you can lose in a given month will vary based on your current weight, diet, and activity level, to name a few variables that impact weight loss. To find out how much body fat and weight you can realistically expect to lose in a month, POPSUGAR spoke to the experts.
How Much Body Fat You Can Expect to Lose
"Under the assumption that nutrition is 100 percent during this process, it depends on the weight and body fat of each woman," said Stephen Cheuk, certificate IV Australian Institute of Personal Trainers certified trainer and founder of S10 Training in New York City. He explained that a woman who is already relatively lean (18 to 28 percent body fat) and strength trains can lose anywhere from 0.5 to 0.8 body fat in a single week. "If a woman is on the heavier side in weight and has a higher body fat percentage (over 28 percent), she could lose a minimum of one percent body fat a week," Stephen said.
How Much Weight You Can Expect to Lose
Pratik Patel, MS, RD, CSSD, CSCS, New York Giants director of performance nutrition and assistant strength and conditioning coach, told POPSUGAR, "If you can steadily lose anywhere from 1/2 pound to 1-2 pounds a week, you know you can control it." According to Pratik, a realistic and healthy way to achieve this would be to implement a calorie deficit.
One pound comes from about 3,500 calories, and if you eat 500 fewer calories than you burn from working out and other physical activity every day for a week, you'll be down one pound. By increasing this deficit to 750 calories a day for one week, you'll have lost one and a half pounds. Eating 1,000 fewer calories than what you burn with exercise will put you at a two-pound loss in a single week. This means that in a month you could lose anywhere from four to eight pounds. Pratik explained that losing no more than two pounds a week will ensure that you're burning fat instead of breaking down your muscle tissue.
Emmie Satrazemis, RD, CSSD, nutrition director at Trifecta, said, "Weight loss is strongly determined by one's age, starting body weight, their fitness levels, current body composition, and overall health." According to her, people who have more weight to lose and who currently consume a high calorie diet may lose more weight and quicker because "it is easier to cut high amounts of calories from a diet that is high in calories to begin with."
For sustainable weight loss, she recommends decreasing one's caloric intake by 15 percent and absolutely no more than 20 percent a day. She explained that going from eating 2,000 calories to 1,700 calories a day will result in a little over half of a pound of weight loss per week. "For some, losing one to two pounds a week is not realistic, while others may lose even more than that," she said. Emmie explained that consistent exercise can help you lose more weight but it may also increase your appetite. Because of this, she advises adjusting your caloric intake to accommodate an increased appetite.
Remember, before making any changes to your diet, please consult your doctor.
I Tried Ritual Vitamins For an Entire Month, and Here's What I Love About Them
The last time I had taken a vitamin, it was a chewable Flintstones one - and even that I hated. Fast forward to my current adult years when my mother sends me bottles of "vital" supplements that just end up piling up in my cabinet (sorry, Mom). I tried, I really tried. But I was never able to take them consistently for more than two days. I eventually gave up on vitamins altogether, until one particular brand became completely unavoidable on social media. You probably know exactly which one I'm talking about, too: Ritual, a "reinvented" multivitamin for women, by women. After scrolling past its ads on Instagram for nearly a year, I finally caved and had to see what it was all about. And I'm so glad I did.
What initially hooked me was the fact that a brand was able to make something as boring as vitamins trendy. Why did Ritual appeal to me so damn much? When I got past the minimalist bottle and inexplicably cool capsules, I learned why Ritual was better than the rest. In search of the "perfect vitamin," CEO and founder Katerina Schneider eliminated all the bullsh*t in both her product and her brand. No synthetic fillers or colorants, nine quality essential ingredients backed by research, and 100-percent transparency on all fronts (including the vitamin itself). Additionally, Ritual sources its nutrients directly from suppliers they know and trust to fill the gaps in a women's diet.
Every decision surrounding product development is supported by science. For example, Ritual didn't set out to create a clear capsule just for looks. It found that naturally dry ingredients didn't react well with oil-based ingredients when combined, so those little beadlets you see floating in oil are dry ingredients protected by a coating.
Here's what's inside:
- Vitamin D3: Helps calcium absorption, supports bone and tooth health, and is linked to both mood and cognitive function.
- Vitamin B12: Maintains healthy energy levels by supporting brain and nerve function.
- Folate: Helps make new blood cells and is associated with mood benefits.
- Vitamin K2 MK7: Maintains healthy skin and is essential for activating calcium-binding proteins that are important for bone and cardiovascular health.
- Omega-3 Fatty Acids: These healthy fats support cardiovascular and brain health, as well as maintain healthy joints.
- Vitamin E: Provides antioxidant actions that support overall health and helps protect cells.
- Iron: Helps build healthy blood cells and is important for mood and energy.
- Magnesium: Essential for activity of enzymes and cell proteins that support overall health, particularly for bone, brain, muscle, and cardiovascular tissues. It also helps maintain calmness.
- Boron: Helper nutrient that assists activity of calcium, magnesium, vitamin D and vitamin K2 MK7 to support bone, joint, and brain health.
I'm currently going into my second month on Ritual, and here are a few reasons why I love these vitamins.
- They don't make me nauseous. A huge reason why I always forgot to take my vitamins consistently was because I had to pair them with a meal. Ritual can be taken either in the morning or at night, and thanks to its vegan-delayed-release capsule, it doesn't dissolve right away. Instead, it bypasses your stomach and delivers nutrients to the small intestine where nutrient absorption is ideal.
- They're minty. Another quality I've always hated about traditional vitamins is its gross taste and smell. Each Ritual bottle contains a food-grade plastic insert infused with pure peppermint oil, which gives its vitamins a fresh scent and flavor.
- Ritual is subscription based. I never have to worry about refills because they're shipped straight to my door each month for $30.
- They're non-GMO, vegan, and gluten- and sugar-free. Enough said.
My life hasn't drastically changed over the past 30 days, but it is nice to have finally found a vitamin that I actually want and do take daily. As for whether or not multivitamins are actually necessary, doctors say that most people can get micronutrients (with the exception of vitamin D) through a healthy, balanced diet. However, prenatal vitamins are absolutely essential and women with heavy periods may benefit from magnesium supplements.
As for me, if healthier skin, immune support, improved energy and mood, and better health all around are as promised, I'm willing to stick it out and see for myself.
Thinking About Trying Bob Harper's Super Carb Diet? Read This First
With the keto diet, intermittent fasting, and the Paleo diet gaining in popularity, it can feel like all paths to weight loss involve cutting out the things you love.
So upon hearing about the super carb diet, you may feel like you've hit the jackpot. Does this diet mean you can eat all the bagels and pasta your heart desires?
The simple answer is no - if your goal is to lose weight, a carb-friendly diet still doesn't mean that you can fill your dinner plate up with an entire box of pasta. So what does the super carb diet involve, if not unlimited bread?
What Is the Super Carb Diet?
The super carb diet was popularized by The Biggest Loser trainer Bob Harper. He decided to write a book about the diet after he personally suffered from a massive heart attack and took his recovery seriously by making big changes to his diet.
While the name suggests that the diet lets you eat as many carbs as you want, when you want them, it's actually much more structured than that.
Lindsey Mathews, a CISSN certified nutritionist, NSCA-CSCS certified trainer, and head trainer for IdealFit, describes the super carb diet as eating a balance of nutrient-dense foods. "It focuses on consuming complex carbohydrates at the right times (before a workout or in the morning) in order to promote effective weight loss and optimal health," Mathews says.
So what are these complex carbs that you're allowed to have on your plate? They can range from a 100 percent whole grain muffin to cauliflower, oatmeal, or sweet potatoes.
How Is Super Carb Different From Other Diets?
The South Beach Diet and the keto diet limit carbs. But the super carb diet does the opposite.
"Many popular weight-loss diets are very low-carb, which oftentimes also means high-fat," says Mathews. "The super carb diet creator points to these high-fat diets as being unhealthy for the heart and potentially even dangerous in the long-term."
Who Should Consider the Super Carb Diet?
This diet could be great for someone who has had problems sticking to low-carb diets in the past. Mathews notes that low-carb diets tend to cause carb cravings among users, which reduces adherence and makes these programs potentially unsustainable. Super carb could also be an option for those with heart issues who are worried about the effects of a high-fat diet.
In Harper's book, he writes that trendy diets tell you that you have to cut out all carbs, but he doesn't believe that to be true. "I want bread," he says. "So does Oprah. So do you. I want to eat a sandwich at lunch without feeling like I'm committing a crime. Did you know a sandwich isn't a sandwich unless there's bread?"
Harper isn't suggesting sitting down and having a big bowl of pasta every night, but he is recommending adding in whole grains. His approach is about balanced macronutrients that will work to help you lose weight.
The Super Carb Diet in Action
This is what a day on the super carb diet looks like:
- Breakfast: scrambled egg whites with spinach with a toasted whole grain muffin and some avocado
- Lunch: sauteed or grilled chicken breast with roast cauliflower, carrots, broccoli, and slivered almonds
- Dinner: "extrabig salad" with a lean ground chicken burger on a whole-grain bun
- "Floater": nonfat Greek yogurt with 1/2 tablespoon of nut butter
Bloated or Constipated? Try These 5 Life-Changing Expert Tips For Better Digestion
We may look at digestion as starting in the mouth and ending in the stomach, but the process is far more complex than we think. And because the mechanical and chemical breakdown of food in our body involves multiple systems, improper digestion can have a tremendous impact on us. In addition to experiencing side effects such as constipation, gas, and bloating, having compromised digestion can also affect our mood, hormones, energy levels, and more, according to certified holistic nutrition consultant Lila Volkas.
In a class I attended on gut health at Prep School, a wellness cooking club based in San Francisco, we learned to look at digestion as a whole. You may have heard the phrase, "You are what you eat," but Lila's version goes like this: "You are what you assimilate, and don't eliminate." Meaning you can eat the healthiest foods and still feel terrible if your body is not absorbing the nutrients in the best way possible. For example, if constipation is an issue for you, Lila says it's like giving your body a "to-do" on its elimination list that rarely gets checked off. Too many bodily "to-dos" that don't get addressed properly can lead to health challenges down the line.
Thankfully, many of these issues can be prevented by following these practical digestion tips from Lila below.
1. Enter "rest-and-digest mode."
Our busy schedules don't always allow for a full lunch break, forcing us to shovel down salads at our desk. Though efficient, you're not doing your digestive system any favors by doing so. Whenever possible, Lila suggests creating an "intentional space" when you eat. This means eliminating distractions - yes, that includes your phone, eating outside when possible, and practicing mindful eating. At the very least, you can take three deep breaths before you start eating to enter a relaxed state.
2. Keep the temperature of your foods in mind.
A big, cold salad may not be as digestion-friendly as you think, according to Lila. Avoiding cold foods in common practice in Traditional Chinese medicine, and although it hasn't been studied, could provide help to you. To counter the cooler temperature and build up your digestive fire, she recommends sipping on hot water or tea before, during, or after your meals. Lila has found this to allow her to enjoy raw foods more easily. Another trick is to limit frozen smoothie ingredients to one. Many of us associate smoothies as being ice cold, but keeping them on room-temperature to cool-ish side might make them better to digest. She also suggests adding warming spices, like cinnamon and ginger, to your blender to help fire things up.
3. Chew your food.
This one seems like a no-brainer, but you'd be surprised! Many of us inhale our food when we're short on time. "Breaking up your food into the smallest pieces you can is only going to be beneficial for the rest of your digestive system and the way food assimilates into your body," Lila told us. This rule applies to liquids, also! A great tip from Lila is to opt for a spoon over a straw and to add toppings to your smoothies to remind yourself to chew.
4. Increase and boost your hydrochloric acid.
The cells in our stomach lining secrete a chemical called hydrochloric acid, which helps break down proteins in food. Without it, digestion can become difficult. Based on Lila's work as a holistic nutritionist, she says drinking diluted apple cider vinegar and incorporating warming herbs as we mentioned before are great ways to maintain sufficient levels. However, these practices may exacerbate your symptoms if you have acid reflux and this particular benefit of ACV hasn't been medically proven but could work for you.
5. Populate your gut with beneficial bacteria.
Eating more fermented foods, including sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha, and well-source soy products (like tofu and tempeh), can promote a healthy microbiome. This can help with leaky gut and other digestive issues.

6 Best Dog Breeds For Families With Small Kids
It's not unusual for families to adopt a dog around the same time as having their own children. But are some dog breeds better suited for families with small children? We were recently asked that, so we reached out to Dr. Eva Radke, DVM, of the East San Rafael Veterinary Clinic in California to see what we could come up with.
There are various things to consider, according to Radke, aside from a dog just being a family-friendly breed. She recommends taking your own daily life into account. "Are you an active family who spends a lot of time hiking, running, and camping?" she asks. "Or do you tend to stay home cooking and enjoying movies? You will want to choose a dog whose temperament, size, and energy level best matches your family."
At the end of the day, it's also important to remember that your dog is just that: a dog. "Even the gentlest-mannered dog is still an animal with her own set of instincts and ways to express herself," Radke said. She suggests you never leave your small children unattended with the dog, just in case, and always supervise them when they're together. Your pup may always tolerate the ear and tail tugs from your kid, but you don't want to run the risk of the dog snapping one day when you aren't paying attention.
Keep reading to find six dog breeds Radke said are best suited for families, based on each breed's typical personality traits.

The Absolute Best Way to Cook Zucchini Noodles
Congrats! You've successfully made zoodles in a spiralizer. Now, onto the important question: how do you actually cook them? Unlike pasta, you fortunately don't need to wait around for a pot of water to boil. Instead, you treat the veggie "noodles" as vegetables you'd normally sauté on the stovetop.
The best way to cook a batch of zoodles is to heat one or two tablespoons of oil, such as olive oil or coconut oil, in a skillet over medium heat and sauté the noodles with a generous pinch of salt and a little pepper. After about five minutes, the zoodles will be slightly softened but not mushy, which is what you're after. They'll be similar to the al dente texture of traditional pasta.
And that's it! You can turn off the heat and turn your zucchini noodles into a full meal catered to your preference. You could add homemade bolognese sauce, basil pesto and parmesan cheese, lemon butter shrimp and red pepper flakes, or even more of your favorite satueed veggies to the mix. After trying out this healthy alternative to carb-heavy pasta a few times, you might convince yourself you like it almost as much as the real thing.
Ready to get cooking? Here are some more zucchini noodle recipes to get you started.
In Light of Amazon's New Series The Romanoffs, Let's Revisit the Legend of Anastasia
This Summer, Amazon announced an exciting new original series that would air in Fall 2018. The show is called The Romanoffs and is utterly shrouded in mystery. So far, details about the project are scarce, and the first teaser is more of a cast announcement than anything else. (For the record, the cast is very big and exciting!) Although there is quite a bit to excavate in the coming months, we do have one piece of intel pertaining to the new series: though it's spelled differently, the show is related to the famous 17th-century imperial family of Russia, the Romanovs. Perhaps more intriguing is that the show will focus on the modern age, telling tales of people who claim to be descendants of the slain family.
This phenomenon, if you're not familiar, stems from one of the greatest mysteries of the 20th century: the disappearance of Princess Anastasia. Seeing as the concept of the show stems from this enduring myth - we assume one of the anthology episodes will tell of a woman claiming to be the lost royal - we thought we'd tell the tale that kept scientists, historians, and royal enthusiasts befuddled for nearly a century.
Rachel Lindsay Says The Bachelorette Denied Her a Happily Ever After During Her Finale
Long before Bachelor Nation was warring over #TeamGarrett and #TeamBlake and wondering what beautiful gown Becca Kufrin would choose for her Maldives proposal, The Bachelorette's most dramatic finale had been claimed by a different final three: Rachel Lindsay, Peter Kraus, and Bryan Abasolo. Rachel, season 13's leading lady, ended up choosing Bryan despite an intense connection with Peter, which resulted in a raw, emotional finale drawn out over two nights. Now, Rachel is speaking out about how unfair she says her love story was treated in comparison to Becca's happy ending.
Rachel has been blogging Bachelorette recaps at Us Weekly all season long, and for her recap of Monday night's finale, she accused ABC of casting her in a negative light during her own finale versus the way Becca was portrayed. Rachel was the reality show franchise's first black Bachelorette, which put a lot of what happened during her season under a microscope more so than past seasons of the series. This was especially the case in her finale, which was mainly focused on drumming up sympathy for runner-up Peter than it was about celebrating Rachel and Bryan's engagement (it was heavily implied that Rachel chose Bryan because he could guarantee her a proposal, whereas Peter could not).
"Becca did not sit on stage for three hours and watch the finale for the first time in front of a live audience," she wrote. "Becca did not have to deal with someone telling her she would live a mediocre life. Becca did not have to deal with being baited with real time questions about her emotions watching certain scenes. Nope, that was me."
Rachel and Bryan are still very much together and appear to be living happily ever after, but the 33-year-old attorney is clearly (and rightly) still very upset about how the show crafted her narrative for Bachelor Nation. What makes her case even stronger is how little Becca and Garrett had to discuss his Instagram scandal from earlier in the season, when it was revealed he was "liking" photos from right-wing Instagram pages mocking immigrants, feminists, Parkland high school student David Hogg, and transgender people. They offered up another weak apology about Garrett's views for Chris Harrison, then the show moved right along.
"Let's just be honest, Becca did not have the finale that I had. There was no controversy and she was not put in a position to face any," Rachel continued in her blog. "She was protected and I was placed on display for three hours and labeled an angry black female. And there will always be that stigma attached to my finale because it has been said that when truth is blurred by misinformation, perception becomes reality and all is lost."
Becca, for her part, told Us Weekly that the way the show sets up each finale is not up to the Bachelorette: "To be quite honest I didn't remember that that even happened last year, but every show format is a little bit different. You know last [season], we had the two-night finale where they showed the breakup and then everything after that in two nights, so I think it's just always different. I don't really have much of a say in that."
Kylie Jenner Stars in Travis Scott's New Music Video as - Wait For It - the Virgin Mary
Travis Scott dropped a music video for his new song, "Stop Trying to Be God," from his latest Astroworld album on Tuesday, and it is definitely interesting, to say the least. Not only does it feature James Blake, Kid Cudi, and Stevie Wonder, but Scott's girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, appears in it, as well, as - wait for it - the Virgin Mary. Yep, Jenner is shown covered in gold paint while holding a lamb, and that's just one of the many biblical references in the video. Scott is also shown baptizing fans in one of the scenes, as well as walking through the street with a herd of sheep. You just have to watch the whole thing for it to make sense.

Happy Birthday, Beatrice! Look Back at 30 Years of Perfect Princess Moments
She may not be quite as high profile as her cousins Prince William and Prince Harry, but Princess Beatrice always keeps us entertained, whether that's with her fearless fashion choices or her sweet sibling moments with younger sister Eugenie. Though she's eighth in line to the throne, Beatrice doesn't have a full-time royal role. Instead, she has her own business pursuits and apparently splits her time between London and New York. That doesn't mean she doesn't make royal appearances, though. She and her family are always present at Royal Ascot, she attends events at Buckingham Palace, and she's a regular face at Trooping the Colour. But when she's not fulfilling her royal duties, she's a regular on the London social circuit, and in 2018, she attended the prestigious Met Gala in New York for the first time.
This week, Beatrice celebrates her 30th birthday, and in celebration, we're taking a look back at her life as a princess, from family vacations to posh London parties. We look forward to more memorable moments in the future, especially as she has an important role to play at her sister's wedding later this year.
Brock Turner Loses Appeal For New Trial, Will Register as Sex Offender For Life
Brock Turner will not be receiving a new trial after a California court rejected his appeal on Aug. 8. In 2016, Turner was convicted of three counts of felony sexual assault against an unconscious 22-year-old woman at Stanford University. He was found by two Swedish graduate students, who detained him until the police arrived. While his original trial sparked a national conversation, he was only handed a lenient six-month jail sentence by now-recalled judge Aaron Persky.
Despite his controversial sentence and an outrageous release after only three months, the disgraced student recently claimed he wasn't given a fair trial. In an attempt to avoid being required to register as a sex offender for life, he appealed his case in December 2017. Turner's reasoning? He argued he was only guilty of "outercourse" and that there wasn't sufficient evidence against him to warrant the punishment given, despite the accounts of the eyewitnesses, hospital staff, and paramedics.
The court of appeals sided with the original ruling, deciding Turner's argument "lacks merit," and rejected his request for a new trial. In turn, he will still be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

This Math Problem Will Make You Question Everything You Ever Knew About Algebra
Math isn't everyone's best skill - and even those who are good at it are questioning everything after trying this algebra problem.
The question originally went viral in Japan, after a study discovered that only 60 percent of 20-somethings could actually solve it. Are you already feeling frustrated and hopeless at trying to know what the answer is? Watch the video below, posted by YouTube user MindYourDecisions, a popular math puzzle channel. In it, Presh Talwalkar, the mastermind behind this question, will guide you to the right answer.
As you can see, not even a calculator can help you, as it will read the problem wrong and arrive at the answer of 9. To solve it correctly in a calculator, you need to write it out like this: 9-3/(1/3) + 1, which will lead you to 1 as the correct answer. The problem tests your knowledge of PEMDAS, the order of operations formula, which says you must get to the answer by following these steps in this order: parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction. In this question, that means dividing 3 by the 1/3 first, which is the same as 3x3. That will then lead you to 9-9+1. From there, 9-9=0 + 1 = 1. Ta-da!
If you arrived at 3, 7, or 9 as your answer, you're not alone. Most people have forgotten how to use PEMDAS or interpret the fraction of 1/3 the wrong way. Still not feeling much of a challenge? Try this other math question that not even parents could solve.
