The 1 Flu Symptom My Son Had That I Desperately Wish I Hadn't Ignored
It's hard to admit this, but I think I could have prevented my son's pneumonia if I hadn't ignored one particular symptom he had. He was a typically jovial 2-year-old when he acquired the flu. He had most of the typical symptoms: fever, chills, aches, a runny nose, and a cough. Only, instead of slowly getting better, he kept getting progressively worse.
You see, when I had my son, I was a brand-new mom and had no idea what the hell I was doing. And like many new moms, I often went on Google to try to figure things out on my own before nervously taking my baby into the doctor for the 100th time. And that's exactly what I was trying to do with my son's cold - avoid being that neurotic mother.
I choked back tears so I wouldn't scare my son, but I was terrified. He was admitted into the ICU that night.
But my son's fever wouldn't go away, and his cough moved into his lungs. A week went by, and things took a turn for the worse. His cough kept him up all night. I sat next to him on the couch and as he watched a cartoon while nuzzled in a blanket, I heard wheezing when he breathed in and out. Finally, after ignoring his cough for far too long, I called the doctor.
The doctor listened to his breaths with his stethoscope. "He's wheezing pretty bad," he told me. "I know," I said quietly. "I should have brought him in earlier." "We'll get him better. Don't worry," he assured me. But the worry and the guilt consumed me. The doctor said my son needed an x-ray because his flu symptoms might have settled into his lungs and could have evolved into pneumonia. The results proved that they had. The doctor quickly put my son on an antibiotic, a steroid, and breathing treatments to be done throughout the day. That night, I slept below my son's crib on the floor. I needed to know that his breathing was OK in the middle of the night. But he kept coughing, and his wheezing got worse. I didn't hesitate this time. I picked him up and took him straight to the ER, because his breathing was truly beginning to frighten me.
When we arrived, the nurse took his vitals, and his oxygen level was only at 86 percent. My heart sank. "Do not let him walk or exert any extra energy," she told me. I choked back tears so I wouldn't scare my son, but I was terrified. He was admitted into the ICU that night. He spent three nights there, sharing one room with two other babies. The babies cried all night long, and my poor son continued to wheeze and cough while trying to sleep through the cries and hourly check-ins by the nurses.
Thankfully, with all of the breathing treatments, my son finally got better, but it took a lot longer than it should have. I feel guilty for not following my motherly intuition sooner. I tried to tell myself it was a regular cold, when deep down, I knew it wasn't. Luckily, he healed, but I know I could have saved him from a lot of that pain. I learned to listen to my gut, always. You know when your baby is truly sick, and if your child wheezes or has a barky cough, don't ignore it and write it off as a typical cold. It could save their life.

The Night My Baby Got the Flu Was the Worst Night of My Life
Shortly after I crawled into bed one night not long after our son was born, I realized something was wrong. Exhausted, my drooping eyes fixated on our baby through the monitor. I wasn't sure what he was doing, but I knew it wasn't normal, and even worse, I knew it wasn't good. In his crib, my 5-month-son was sitting in his recently-learned tripod position long after he normally would have fallen asleep. He had been sitting like that for over an hour, which initially I had written off as an infant peculiarity - just something that maybe he was doing to avoid sleep. It wasn't until I went into his room that I understood how wrong I had been.
Drenched in sweat and covered in his own vomit, my son had come down with a nasty flu, which would later be confirmed by our doctor after 12 of the scariest hours of my life.
Drenched in sweat and covered in his own vomit, my son had come down with a nasty flu.
Being a new parent wasn't easy. I felt like I was doing everything wrong, mostly because I had no idea what I was supposed to do. As a way of combating my fears, I tried to be as cautious as possible, which largely meant scouring the internet often in search of help. This night, however, I went straight to calling the hospital.
While I was talking to the triage nurse, my husband held our son. Even though we had quickly changed his clothes and cleaned him off, he still looked absolutely miserable. His usual happy self had been replaced with down-turned eyes, waxen skin, and a fever of 102. It was there in his father's arms that he threw up again.
The nurse was a life-saver that night, both for calming me down and instructing my husband and I what to do. Through her guidance and patience (and calls back to check up on us), we managed to help him keep his fluids down and get his fever to a healthy spot. He even managed to sleep a little during the night, although my husband and I hardly slept a wink. Instead, we spent most of the night watching him breath, touching his forehead to see if his fever was raging, and talking about how terrible we felt that we had let him sit in his own vomit for over an hour. We were scared, guilt-ridden, and more tired than ever before.
Thankfully, instead of a trip to the ER, we went to our regular doctor the following morning. After getting the proper medication, I was so grateful to hear that my son would soon be on the mend. Having a sick child, even something as seemingly innocuous as the flu, is scary, but when it's your little baby, it can feel life-altering. All I wanted to do was protect my child, but when they're so tiny, it can feel hopeless. But if that night taught me anything, it's to trust my instincts and always, always take the flu seriously.

This Mom's Candid Photo Series Proves Breastfeeding Should Be Celebrated
Boston-based photographer Gina Brocker admits that breastfeeding her son was an extremely empowering experience for her despite being painful. In the hopes of inspiring other mothers throughout their breastfeeding journey, Gina created a stunning photo series titled "Latched On" that shows how feeding your child can be done anywhere.
"After giving birth to my son and experiencing breastfeeding firsthand, I became fascinated and passionate about the process," Gina told POPSUGAR. "I'm amazed that our bodies can create, birth, and nourish these amazing little humans - but it isn't without challenges and it doesn't always come easy. After navigating the typical uncomfortable and challenging situations, the need to share the realities of breastfeeding led me to begin this project."
For Gina, capturing the more challenging aspects of breastfeeding is just as important as showing the tender moments.
"Knowing the realities of breastfeeding gives us strength," said Gina. "It lets us know that we're not alone and that it's all very normal. By empowering families, the barriers of breastfeeding become more manageable and helps ensure they can continue their breastfeeding journey for as long as they would like."
"Meeting the needs of babies and children should be the priority. Not just of parents, but our society."
Gina wanted to leave the public with a final message:
"Meeting the needs of babies and children should be the priority. Not just of parents, but our society," she said. "Breastfeeding is the best possible way to ensure they get the nutrition and comfort they need, and there shouldn't be any additional barriers to that."
Luckily, Gina decided to share her photos with the world in honor of Breastfeeding Awareness Month in August. Scroll through to see some of Gina's most inspiring shots that prove moms can - and should be able to - breastfeed any place they need to.
28 Photos of Kate Middleton Looking Lovingly at Her Kids That Will Make Your Heart Burst
Although Kate Middleton and her kids are constantly photographed at events smiling and waving, it's the candid photos that we really can't get enough of. More often than not, if the family is caught not posing for a photo, Kate is either defusing a toddler tantrum or, quite the opposite: looking so lovingly at one or all of her children, that it's enough to make anyone's heart burst at the sight of it.
Ahead, take a look at some of our favorite love-filled photos of Kate with George, Charlotte, and Louis, which all prove that at her core, the duchess is just a typical mama bear.
This Is When You Can Send Your Child Back to School After They Have Lice
"Your child has lice." These are words that every parent dreads. Just the thought of lice on anyone's head makes me itch all over my body and want to take a match to my entire house, but when it's my own kid, that's a whole different (itchy) stress level. While there are precautions you can take to try and protect your little ones from the tiny bugs, they usually creep in anyway. From sleepovers to selfies to kids playing together, those little buggers can spread faster than a forest fire.
While new school policies have emerged in the last few years that suggest you should keep your child in school regardless of the stage of their lice to avoid missing important learning lessons (just, no), many parents keep their child home to avoid being that person who causes an outbreak. And if you do keep them home, one important question that you may have once things are under control is, "When can they go back to school?"
According to Lice Clinics of America, the answer is quite simple. When there are no more "live lice" still within the hair or scalp, you may send your child back to their classmates because the eggs (or nits) can't be spread. School districts used to use the "no nit" policy, but many have moved past that because they now understand that only live lice can be spread from classmate to classmate.
While your child getting lice definitely isn't a pleasant experience, it also isn't the end of the world. The stigma of a child acquiring lice is slowly evaporating. According to the Lice Clinics of America, because schools have been dealing with this problem forever, parents shouldn't at all feel embarrassed if their child is struck with the itchy infestation. Just be sure to follow the steps to get rid of it and keep your child home from school if there are live lice. Further, the Lice Clinics of America also recommend pulling your child's hair back regularly and encouraging them not to share hats or clothing with their classmates.

7 Infamous Cults That Are Creepy as F*ck
I'll just start by saying that I'm obsessed with cults. Why am I obsessed with cults, you ask? Gosh, I wish I had an answer for you - they've just always fascinated me for some reason, maybe because I can't picture myself giving up everything I have to follow someone blindly. (Except for maybe Beyoncé; is the BeyHive a cult?) With the cult-like government we have here in the States right now, I couldn't help but think about the famous real-life cults that have both intrigued and scared the sh*t out of me over the years. From the ones you probably know, like the Manson Family, to the ones you may not, here are seven sects that are crazy, dangerous, and creepy as f*ck.
Yes! Sons of Anarchy Star Katey Sagal Will Appear on Mayans MC
From the moment the Sons of Anarchy spinoff series was announced, diehard fans like me had one very important question in mind: will our favorite characters appear on the new show, Mayans MC? Well, good news: creator Kurt Sutter revealed that there will definitely be some Sons of Anarchy "Easter eggs" in the show - and, yes, some of the Sons of Anarchy characters will appear on Mayans MC thanks to flashback scenes.
Which Sons of Anarchy Stars Will Be on Mayans MC?
Sutter hasn't shared too many details about who and what from Sons will make its way into the new series, but we won't have to wait too long to see a fan favorite appear on the spinoff! According to Entertainment Weekly, he recently told reporters at the Television Critics press tour that Katey Sagal will appear in the series premiere as Gemma on Sept. 4. "It's a flashback to eight years ago, and a way of letting us know that he's in Stockton where the two worlds will collide, at least in memory," he said.
Will Charlie Hunnam Make a Mayans MC Cameo?
Mayans MC is set in the aftermath of Sons of Anarchy, and the show centers around Ezekiel "EZ" Reyes (JD Pardo), a Mayans MC prospect. The two charters share a relationship, but as Sutter revealed to reporters, fans shouldn't expect the new characters to chat about Jax Teller. "I don't want to mess with that mythology," he explained. "That mythology can live in imagination. But flashbacks wouldn't be stepping on what is happening now."
OK, so they may not be sitting around talking about Jax, but it sounds like there may be room for a flashback moment. I can't help it - my hopes for a Charlie Hunnam cameo are officially VERY HIGH.
Check out the trailer for Mayans MC, plus other shows to watch if you love Sons of Anarchy.

Sarah Ferguson Revealed Princess Beatrice's Childhood Nickname in a Sweet Birthday Shout-Out
Princess Beatrice has turned 30! The Ridiculously Cheap, Easy Trick That's Kept My Year-Old White Sneakers Looking New
Last Spring, I splurged on a pair of white-on-white Alexander McQueen sneakers. (I'd had my eye on them for months! They were more than half off! I'm good at justifying my shopping habit!) Yet the minute I hit "confirm" on the Zappos Couture order page, I felt a sense of impending dread. Why? I knew I'd wear the hell out of the shoes. Alexander McQueen is one of my favorite designers of all time; I once waited in line for more than three hours on a grimy-hot NYC Summer day to get into the Savage Beauty exhibition at the Met. My dog's name is even Dean McQueen, partly as an ode to Alexander. I was infatuated with the brand's modern riff on classic shell-toe styling, the unique rose-gold accent at the heel, and the platform sole that my best friend's husband would soon compare to "nursing shoes." But I was also worried about keeping them looking pristine - or even marginally clean, for that matter.
The shoes, as currently pictured on the Alexander McQueen website.
I'd seen videos about luxe, white-glove shoe cleaning services that promised to baby your footwear for a hefty fee. But I'd already dropped a major chunk of change on the shoes to begin with. I could try to avoid wearing them while driving, but I live in LA - I'm always driving. Aside from keeping these sneakers wrapped in the box, never to see the light of day, I needed to find a realistic way to keep them looking sparkly. That's when I divulged my new purchase to my sister, Courtney. She had one question: "Have you ever used Mr. Clean Magic Erasers on your shoes?" No. No, I had not. Courtney revealed that they were a weird but surefire way to keep shoes tidy. But would they damage the leather? No. Could I also use them on the soles? Yes. Should I get them wet like I did before using them to descuff the walls in my house? Of course.
I was floored when the marks disappeared - and even more astonished to find that there was no wear or damage to the leather itself.
Somewhat skeptically, I bought a new package of Magic Erasers on my next trip to the drugstore. I'd been wearing the sneaks almost every single day for about a week, and while they were still nearly stark white, I was dismayed by a few little black streaks on the insides of the uppers. There was also a little gray discoloration on one of the heels that, I was certain, was caused by rubbing against the floor mats in my car as I drove. I wet the sponge and cringed while daintily scrubbing the very expensive leather in minuscule circles. I was floored when the marks disappeared - and even more astonished to find that there was no wear or damage to the leather itself. When it worked to almost completely erase the sad, gray coating on the heel, too, you could have knocked me over with . . . a Magic Eraser, I guess.
The author modeling her year-plus-old sneakers.
It's been a year and two months since I first bought these stunners, and this is what they still look like today. Pretty remarkable if you ask me, a woman who is prone to spilling paneer masala on her shoes, scuffing them against all manner of curbs while tripping, and generally making a mess of herself and all of her belongings. Every few weeks, I break out a Magic Eraser, tackle any and all errant smudges and scuffs, and voila: pretty much good as new. I've since tried this trick on mules, pumps, and other pairs of sneakers. So far, I've had across-the-board success using it on genuine leather, though it seems to be a no-go for faux leather and other materials like canvas or mesh.
So, no - I didn't edit these photos at all except to autocorrect the levels. No patching, Facetuning, Photoshopping, or other tricky moves have been deployed to make my beloved McQueens look somehow cleaner than they are. One caveat: Magic Erasers don't work on shoelaces, and, in my experience, neither does the washing machine. So I did purchase a new pair of fresh, thick white laces (for a grand total of $3) about six months ago when the originals got a little dingy. Otherwise, I've probably used the equivalent of two packages of Magic Erasers regularly tidying up my shoes. I'd say spending an average of $6 per year to keep a pair of shoes that are currently selling for $575 in mint condition qualifies as a trick for the ages, wouldn't you?

Princess Diana's Signature Sunglasses Will Have You Disposing of Your Tiny '90s Frames
When it comes to shades, Princess Eugenie's preference is a sci-fi style while Meghan Markle loves her tortoiseshell sunglasses. Considering the amount of British royals who own a pair of stylish sunglasses, you'd be forgiven for thinking they're part of some royal fashion rule. Feeling Deprived on Your Weight-Loss Plan? Try This Trick From a Dietitian
If you've been tracking calories for weight loss, then you may be frustrated by what you are limited to eating during a day. You may even keep your favorite indulgence foods off-limits for fear of going over your total daily calorie allotment. Turns out, this may not help with your weight-loss progress. You could end up feeling super deprived, which will only lead to a binge later on and possible feelings of guilt for falling off your plan.
Whether you're dealing with intense cravings, want to ward off a binge, or just want to mix up your boring, everyday meal plan, registered dietitian and trainer Jim White, ACSM, owner of Jim White Fitness and Nutrition Studios, recommends you indulge in a treat before bed.
"It's a good idea on some days of the week to have a certain set amount of discretionary calories before bed to ward off any cravings," he told POPSUGAR. "The key is to keep it calorie controlled." He recommends sticking to 150 calories, which can be about one ounce of chocolate, a glass of wine, a small bag of popcorn, or one ounce of potato chips. That way, you can enjoy your favorite foods without feeling deprived or just mindlessly eating them and overconsuming calories.
If you are sticking to a set daily calorie target, then you can obviously fit this in within your daily allotment. But if you already hit your target for the day and still are craving a treat, Jim said there's usually no harm in going over 150 calories two to three days a week. You can still make weight-loss progress and indulge in your favorite foods - it's all about balance.
5 Harry Potter Secrets You Definitely Didn't Know . . . Until Now
Though she may seem like a muggle, J.K. Rowling is definitely magical. A former waitress without any formal training in creative writing, the author of the Harry Potter series created a world where anything (except maybe Snape investing in decent shampoo) is possible.
There is a book that will excite fans worldwide: an in-depth bibliography about the author's literary journey. JK Rowling: A Bibliography 1997-2013 by Philip Errington is so detailed that Rowling described it as "slavishly thorough and somewhat mind-boggling." Basically, you should be happier than Hagrid in an exotic pet store at this news.
The bibliography, which follows Rowling throughout the process of penning each entire Harry Potter book, is a veritable Diagon Alley of previously unknown facts about the series. If you don't have time to read it to find out all of the secrets, don't worry - you can check out this list for a few that even Hermione wouldn't know.
If You're Nervous About Tearing During Birth, This Technique May Help You Avoid It
Even though celebrity moms like Chrissy Teigen have made talking about the not-so-glamorous side of pregnancy more commonplace, the topic of tearing during childbirth isn't discussed as much as it should be. In studies where the use of episiotomies (a surgical cut made at the opening of the vagina during childbirth to aid a difficult delivery and prevent rupture of tissues) was restricted, the rate of spontaneous tearing was recorded to be anywhere from 53 to 79 percent. Thankfully, there is a practice called perineal massage that could decrease the chance of tearing for first-time moms - and it's less involved than you think.
Ruby Rose Shares Her Batwoman Motto: "Be the Person That You Needed When You Were Younger"
If you haven't already heard, Ruby Rose has been cast to play Batwoman in an upcoming TV production due to hit our screens in 2019, and she couldn't be more thrilled. Just a few days after the announcement, the Australian actress stopped by The Tonight Show Staring Jimmy Fallon and got understandably emotional about her latest gig. She will play the modern version of Batwoman/Kate Kane, who is openly gay, and Ruby shared her excitement about taking on such a role, explaining that she wished someone played characters like this when she was growing up. Ruby explained that her motto now is "be the person that you needed when you were younger."
Ruby also shared her emotional announcement with fans via Instagram, saying: "This is a childhood dream. This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on TV and felt alone and different."
6 Best Dog Breeds For Families With Small Kids
It's not unusual for families to adopt a dog around the same time as having their own children. But are some dog breeds better suited for families with small children? We were recently asked that, so we reached out to Dr. Eva Radke, DVM, of the East San Rafael Veterinary Clinic in California to see what we could come up with.
There are various things to consider, according to Radke, aside from a dog just being a family-friendly breed. She recommends taking your own daily life into account. "Are you an active family who spends a lot of time hiking, running, and camping?" she asks. "Or do you tend to stay home cooking and enjoying movies? You will want to choose a dog whose temperament, size, and energy level best matches your family."
At the end of the day, it's also important to remember that your dog is just that: a dog. "Even the gentlest-mannered dog is still an animal with her own set of instincts and ways to express herself," Radke said. She suggests you never leave your small children unattended with the dog, just in case, and always supervise them when they're together. Your pup may always tolerate the ear and tail tugs from your kid, but you don't want to run the risk of the dog snapping one day when you aren't paying attention.
Keep reading to find six dog breeds Radke said are best suited for families, based on each breed's typical personality traits.

Disney World Now Offers Princess Makeovers For Adults, So Grab Your Crown and Go!
Disney princess makeovers aren't just for kids anymore. While fans of the Disney parks may be familiar with the adorable beauty services offered for children at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, it appears Disney World is now offering princess makeovers for adults too. The boutique is still reserved for little ones, but you can transform into your favorite heroine using the "Character Couture" packages offered at Senses Spa locations throughout the resort.
The park's guest services manager, Joseph Motowidlak, told Today the makeover service launched in October 2017 for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, but Disney decided to keep it year round after seeing the response.
"We really saw a need for some kind of transformative makeover experience for people of all ages - something customized to allow guests to really enjoy their day on our property," Motowidlak said.
According to the Disney Parks blog, spa guests can receive nail, hair, and makeup treatments inspired by a variety of familiar characters. Prices start at $50, with a full package costing $120. Your options aren't just limited to princesses, either; visitors can transform into iconic villains, galactic characters, and other "hero/heroine" styles. Whether you're amping up the glam for Disney's Halloween festivities or simply want to spend a normal day in your favorite princess's glass slippers, these makeovers are worth checking out. If You Love Rose Gold, You're About to Lose Your Sh*t Over These 10 Highlighters
This time two years ago, we thought that rose gold was simply a trend. Now, the beautiful blush-metallic shade has proved itself to be a long-lasting hue that's here to stay. We love it on eyes and lips, but it truly shines as a highlighter. Big-time cosmetic brands have made their own highlighters in the popular color, and we rounded up our favorites for you. Not only will these choices help you to get your glow on, but they will also add warmth to your face. Shop these irresistible options.

The Craziest Sh*t Hair Removal Technicians Have Ever Seen
While you may dread your monthly Brazilian as much as you do flu season, there's no reason to fear the call of the wax strip. Hair removal technicians of all varieties - those who wax, laser, or sugar - have seen it all. As Melanie Coba, brand ambassador for European Wax Center, told POPSUGAR, "I think of waxing as procedural, and I don't judge my guests' reaction to hair removal appointments."
For those of you who prefer a fur-free existence (and if you don't, that's cool too), here are five stories that prove your muscle clenching and watery eyes just do not compare to the wildest things hair removal technicians have ever seen.
I Fasted 16 Hours a Day For 1 Week - Here's What It Actually Felt Like
The first thing that comes to mind when I hear the words intermittent fasting (IF) is deprivation. It sounds virtually unappealing to a serial snacker like myself. After doing extensive research on IF, though, I quickly learned there's a broad range of benefits associated with trying this fast such as weight loss (especially stubborn lower-belly fat), lowering blood sugar, improving cognitive health and memory, decreasing inflammation, increasing energy, curbing sugar cravings, and the perk that sold me instantly: better sleep!
There are a few fasting protocols one could follow, such as the 5:2 plan (eat normally for five days while eating only 500 to 600 calories on the other two days); alternate fasting, where you switch between periods of consuming zero-calorie foods and beverages and actually eating whole foods; and the most popular fast, which I opted for, the 16:8 plan (16-hour fast and an eight-hour feasting period). I've tried 24-hour fasting in the past where I've failed miserably, so I was curious to see if IF would be any different.
Sydney Axelrod, an NYC registered dietitian at Mount Sinai, told POPSUGAR, "If we're constantly eating, then our body will always be in the 'fed' state, which tells our brain we don't need to use our stored energy aka burn fat. It's also great to take a break from eating so often so our bodies can focus on other processes, like regulating hormones, decreasing stress, and reducing inflammation". As a person who eats every hour on the hour, this poses a great challenge.
Another great challenge for me is maintaining muscle mass. I have a thin frame naturally, so I've been weight training for years to gain muscle and build strength. However, Korey Rowe, a certified personal trainer at Dogpound Gym, said, "You'll have to fast a very long time (72+ hours) for your body to begin breaking down muscle tissue. The key is to strength train in the morning (during your fasting period) to boost human growth hormone. That particular hormone shifts your body into a fat-burning state while forming new muscle and maintaining mass while experiencing favorable changes in body composition".
Below is a personal account of my week-long intermittent fasting experience:
Day 1: Am I Alive?
I woke up at 5 a.m. this morning out of pure angst at the thought of not being able to eat until noon. I made the executive decision to utilize my time wisely and take a Vinyasa flow yoga class at 9 a.m. I can't confidently say this was a great boss move because during the class I felt a little lightheaded, but I will say it did help calm my mind and take away from my hunger pains. I ate my last meal at 8 p.m. last night, my yoga class was about an hour long, so finishing up at 10:05 a.m. took up a good chunk of time where my mind (and stomach) wasn't so focused on consuming food. I ate an avocado and egg sandwich around noon, chugged water religiously, and snacked on macadamia nuts around 3:30-4 p.m. I finished my night off with a cup of tea and Pop chips at 8 p.m. I survived the first day. I'm alive.
Day 2: Headaches Galore
I broke fast at 14 hours because I woke up with a knocking headache. I tried drinking more water, which didn't help much at all. In fact, it only made me more annoyed because I was getting up out of my bed every five minutes to use the bathroom. I ate avocado toast at 10 a.m. to help get rid of this headache, which did nothing. Also, I'm 100 percent sure I drank at least one gallon of water before noon to try and kick this headache, but the headache won that fight. I had a smoothie for lunch with a few handfuls of macadamia nuts. I didn't feel as hungry today as I did yesterday, which was weird for me because I'm always hungry, but I didn't force myself to eat. I listened to my body and ate what I felt was decent at that moment.
At 8 p.m., I ate a light spinach salad with eggs, shredded cucumber, a little pecorino cheese, and hemp seeds tossed in lemon zest olive oil.
Day 3: Feeling Refreshed
I woke up today feeling ah-mazing! I felt refreshed and well-rested, which for me is an absolute perk because I've always had trouble sleeping through the night. No headache, no hunger pains. I think this feeling stemmed from the fact that I was not eating right before I went to bed. What I'm extremely impressed with is my lack in cravings. As stated before, I'm a serial snacker who can eat potato chips at any hour, any day of the week. The fact that I hadn't had a single urge to grab a bag is pretty darn impressive.
I broke fast 12 p.m. I opted for two bananas and made a fresh green juice at home. I ate a full meal about 45 minutes later.
Day 4: Feeling Like the Hulk
I woke up with so much energy that I decided to take a HIIT class. I grew up a competitive athlete, so I'm not new to weightlifting by any means. However, I was hesitant about training heavy on an empty stomach. But I went in with an open mind and felt great. I was amazed at how much energy I had. I was able to increase my weight with no problem, I blasted through all of the circuits like champ, and I felt energized the whole way through. No lightheadedness, no faint feeling at all. I've peaked at drinking a gallon of water before 4 p.m., which is pretty impressive. I had more energy today than I've ever had before, which speaks volumes. Feeling amazing.
I broke fast by eating avocado and salmon toast with eggs, spinach, and pecorino cheese on a fresh baguette.
Day 5-7: Smooth Sailing
Now that I was in the groove, it went rather smoothly. Energy was at 100 percent and I felt lighter and more alert. I'm more mindful of what and when I eat, which is a game changer. I've learned how to control my desires and stay disciplined. I'm enjoying waking up and waiting a little bit before I consume food. There's something about having an empty stomach for just a little while that makes me more alive and conscious of what I'm eating throughout the day. I also think it's helped me enjoy my food more. I didn't lose any weight, but I do notice my body is a a lot leaner and more toned. In fact, I gained a little more muscle, which is awesome. I'm sleeping sounder as well, and that's been the biggest perk. I believe my dreams are more vivid because my mind is clearer. I can see intermittent fasting becoming a part of my life, because the results are there - there's no denying it.
