Lady Gaga Recalls the Heartbreaking Day Behind A Star Is Born's Most Powerful Scene

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper appear in all their glory on the cover of Entertainment Weekly's Fall Movie Issue, and they're spilling all the emotional details about their undeniable award season darling, A Star Is Born. The exciting remake is already generating plenty of buzz with its chills-inducing trailer, which is jam-packed with emotional moments between the two stars. As it turns out, though, things were just as intense for the stars once the cameras turned off.

During the interview, Gaga opened up about one of the most captivating scenes in the film, when her character sings a powerful ballad at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. In a devastating twist of fate, the pop star lost her close friend to cancer while they were filming. That means the emotions we'll see on screen will be very heartbreaking and very real.

"All I ever wanted to do was sing. I'll never forget that day."

"My very, very, very dear friend Sonja died of cancer that day. We were supposed to shoot in, like, 30 minutes, and I left the set because her husband called me and I could hear her in the background and I just got in the car and drove. I missed her by 15 minutes and she died," Gaga recalled. "I literally laid with her, with her husband, and their dog, and his son . . . When I came back, Bradley was so gentle with me and we got through it. I performed the song. He was like, 'You don't have to do it again. It's okay.' All I ever wanted to do was sing. I'll never forget that day. It was really a special scene, and I'll always remember that moment."

Cooper, on the other hand, spoke to the film's greater themes, which deal with depression and addiction. "I mean, ultimately, it would be wonderful if it could impart some understanding of the human plight," he said. "I know that's why I wanted to tell this story, so I could even help understand it myself. Also, to recognize that trauma is real, and traumatic events that occur especially early in life, if they're not dealt with and aided, will have ramifications that go on and on and on and on." Wow. We already thought we were going to get emotional while watching the film, but now those chances have increased tenfold. A Star Is Born hits theaters on Oct. 5.

Look Back at All the Artists Who Have Won MTV's Coveted Video Vanguard Award

Jennifer Lopez will be the first Latin artist to win MTV's Video Vanguard Award at the VMAs this month, and it got us thinking about all the other musicians to receive the honor over the years. The Vanguard was created in 1984 and renamed after the iconic Michael Jackson in 1991; it recognizes artists' overall achievements in music and film, and there were actually two inaugural winners: David Bowie and The Beatles.

While there has been plenty of debate over who probably should have a Vanguard Award but doesn't - *cough* Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott *cough* - it doesn't get awarded every year and has sometimes been given as a lifetime achievement award instead. My favorite thing about the Vanguard Award is seeing how the artists celebrate and accept them. Beyoncé damn near performed her entire self-titled album; Kanye West damn near ran for US president; Justin Timberlake damn near resurrected *NSYNC from the dead; and Lady Gaga had me damn near throwing wine at the TV when she presented Britney Spears with an award while dressed as her male alter ego, Jo Calderone. I'll never understand why that happened.

Keep reading to see all the artists who have taken home the coveted Moon Person over the years, then check out even more unforgettable moments from the MTV VMAs.

This Haunting Case in I Am a Killer Will Leave You Feeling Unsettled

Netflix is known for giving us haunting shows like The Keepers and The Staircase, and the streaming giant has released yet another true crime docuseries - this time a 10-part British anthology about death row inmates called I Am a Killer. In each hour-long episode, the crew meets with a different prisoner to get a closer look at their stories. The third episode is one of the most tragic and frustrating of the show, unpacking the case of an inmate named Justin Dickens, who, at age 17, killed Allen Carter, a schoolteacher. The episode's narrative arc puts viewers in constant tension. It asks whether or not his death row sentence was fair, given Dickens' dysfunctional upbringing and the prosecution's interpretation of the evidence.

Dickens's Life Before the Murder

Dickens grew up in Amarillo, TX, with a tough childhood. His mother fell into drug addiction, which led him to be born two months premature. His father eventually left the family when Dickens was 13. After his father's departure, he committed petty thefts and did drugs with his mother. Amidst the chaos in his life, he found a parental figure in the charismatic tattoo artist Dallas Moore. But Moore was trouble, a drug dealer and ex-con with a temper. In fact, he even likened himself to Texan Charles Manson.

The Murder

In 1994, roughly three years after meeting Moore, Dickens found himself in an inescapable hole, and he retells the day of the murder with remorse. According to Dickens, Moore's wife, Martha, took an ounce of cocaine from her husband's pocket while he was sleeping and did a portion of the drug. When she and Dickens couldn't sell the remaining amount, they finished it up. Moore came after Dickens and Martha with a gun, and eventually beat up the then 17-year-old Dickens. He claimed that Moore told him to take his ski mask, find a gun, and get the money for the missing drugs. Moore denied these allegations years later, claiming that he had told Dickens to leave.

Here's Dickens's version of the event: with an accomplice, Dickens drove to Mockingbird Pawn & Jewelry Store for an attempted robbery. Present at the store were schoolteacher Allen Carter and the store owner Jim Jacobs. Dickens buzzed into the store and asked to try on a ring for his wedding. He immediately pulled out his gun. Jacobs laid on the floor where Dickens couldn't see him, while Carter was five feet away from him.

Carter stood up and attempted a shoulder tackle, and Dickens pulled a shot that hit him in the torso. Then, the teacher tried to pry the gun away, jerking the gun straight up and causing a bullet to go through his hand and hit his forehead. Jacobs then ran through the side door. Dickens eventually bolted through the back door, watching his accomplice drive away. Three days later, the Amarillo police arrested Dickens.

The Prosecution

The prosecution crafted a different story. District Attorney James Farren took hard swings at Dickens, painting him as a cold-blooded murderer who deliberately killed Carter from a distance. Farren claimed that the forensic evidence showed that Dickens could not have been struggling with Carter, arguing that there would have been blood all over him. In the I Am a Killer episode, Carter's friends mentioned that they couldn't imagine him charging at a gunman, though he had been a recognized Vietnam War veteran. Jacobs, the only eyewitness at the crime scene, contended that there was a struggle, but said that he could not sign a statement unless Farren approved it. Charges of involuntary manslaughter and first-degree murder had vastly different consequences. The latter meant a sentence to the death penalty, which Dickens eventually received in 1995.

The Epilogue

Carter's death has been hard on his friends and community, his funeral attended by thousands in the small ranching town of Clayton, NM. Jacobs immediately sold the store after the incident. In an emotional moment in the docuseries, his daughter, Christi, said that she had forgiven Dickens, and needed to do so in order to move on. Friends and family remembered Carter as an empathetic teacher who worked with every student to make sure that they succeeded, and suggested that he could have helped Dickens were it not for their only and final encounter.

Dickens stayed on death row for roughly a decade. In 2005, the Supreme Court ruled that a sentence to the death penalty for crimes committed while a person was a juvenile was cruel and unusual punishment. The rule affected Dickens and 72 other prisoners on death row at the time. A 2005 report on NPR's Morning Edition indicated that one-third of the defendants that Farren's office sent to death row had been under the age of 18. After his sentence was commuted to life, Dickens married Canadian Michelle Sauve, with whom he shared a long-term pen pal relationship. Dickens will not be eligible for parole until 2034.

We Just Realized Who Plays the Fisherman King in Aquaman, and Now We Can't Stop Staring

By the looks of the trailer, Aquaman is about to take the box office by storm. The film features a star-packed cast, with recognizable names like Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, and Nicole Kidman. Behind the makeup of the eerie, ambiguous Fisherman King, however, is an actor who you probably recognize, even if you aren't quite sure where from.

Actor Djimon Hounsou has had one of the most varied careers in Hollywood today. Getting his start in music videos with the likes of Paula Abdul and Madonna (and yes, you can spot him if you're eagle-eyed and patient), he took a pretty common path for film actors: starting out with smaller roles in mid-tier movies and guest spots on TV shows to build up his resume.

Hollywood took notice of Hounsou in 1997, when he got a Golden Globe nomination for Steven Spielberg's Amistad. Only a few years later, he was featured in Gladiator. Doesn't quite have the same ring to it as the ruler of one of the seven kingdoms of Atlantis, but it's pretty great nonetheless!

If you're a big film buff, you probably know him best from a pair of Oscar-nominated turns in the early 2000s. He was nominated for best supporting actor in 2004 for In America, but it was his role in 2006's Blood Diamond that cemented his status. That season, he was nominated for pretty much every supporting actor award possible, and even won one from the National Board of Review, giving him clout as a serious actor beyond just action-heavy roles.

Fans of modern superhero movies will most definitely recognize Hounsou. Before joining the DC universe with Aquaman, he previously was part of the rival Marvel Cinematic Universe as Korath the Pursuer in the first Guardians of the Galaxy, and will reprise the role in Captain Marvel.

See if you can spot Hounsou in his quick trailer appearance!

Allison Made This 1 Tweak to Her Diet and It Completely Transformed Her Butt

Allison Murphy always had a hard time gaining weight and maintaining it, regardless of what she ate. "As I got older, I began to despise how long and lanky I was," Allison told POPSUGAR. She realized that working out (something she already loved to do) would give her body more of a shape by adding muscle mass - and that's exactly what she did. Continue reading to learn exactly how Allison transformed her butt.

How Her Diet Changed

Instead of counting calories and obsessing over her diet, Allison said she focused on eating clean and listening to her body's hunger cues. "My meals often consist of all vegetables (there's not one I don't like), rice or quinoa, beans, lentils, and chicken or fish," Allison said. In order to maintain her weight and physique, Allison had to increase the amount of food she was eating, specifically her protein intake, drinking plant-based protein shakes with peanut butter.

The Workout She Did For a Bigger Butt

Allison said that she was very active growing up, participating in activities like dance, horseback riding, and running. "I never really knew much about working out as far as weight training was concerned," Allison explained. Once she started working with her personal trainer, Ryan Read, her knowledge about weightlifting expanded. "When I started, I could only lift or squat the bar by itself, but you've got to start somewhere!" Although her strength was minimal, she began to lift weights three to fives times a week, eventually impressing herself with the progress she had made.

The Workout She Stopped Doing

Allison cut back on the amount of cardio she was doing because it caused her to lose too much weight and muscle mass. Instead, she began to do 15 to 20 minutes of cardio on the StairMaster or walks around her neighborhood a few times a week. She credits Ryan with showing her "the dos and don'ts, as well as certain routines to alter my body in the ways I wanted." As far as her results, Allison said, "The results are addicting; lifting heavier and feeling stronger is one of the most rewarding feelings around."

This Doctor Explains Why Vegetarians Should Do the Keto Diet

If you follow any keto-lovers on Instagram, then you're probably bombarded with mouthwatering photos of bunless burgers, chicken wings, and bacon-wrapped everything. And while meat does play a role in the keto diet, it doesn't have to be the diet's foundation. In fact, it's totally possible to do the keto diet without eating meat.

The keto diet, which is high fat, moderate protein, and super low carb, has helped countless people lose weight and totally transform their lives. Although it's a little more difficult, it's totally possible for vegetarians and vegans to go keto. Especially for vegetarian who still consume eggs and dairy (lacto-ovo vegetarians) - full-fat dairy is a staple of the keto diet.

But not only is the keto diet doable for vegetarians, it's actually advised for those who are diabetic or have metabolic syndrome, which is a cluster of conditions that include high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess abdominal fat, and increased cholesterol levels.

"A well-formulated ketogenic diet has been demonstrated to be very effective in reversing type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome," Steve Phinney, MD, PhD, chief medical officer at Virta Health, told POPSUGAR. "These conditions are increasingly common, even in vegetarians."

Dr. Phinney and his colleagues treat type 2 diabetes patients with the keto diet at the Virta Clinic. Patients who followed a keto diet under medical supervision at the Virta Clinic saw a reduction in blood sugar levels, heart disease risk factors, and fatty liver and less dependency on medications. They also had lower markers for inflammation.

Since vegetarians can also get heart disease, fatty liver, and diabetes and have inflammation, the keto diet could be helpful to lose weight and get their chronic conditions, including type 2 diabetes, under control. And even though many people assume the keto diet is all meat and cheese, it's actually incredibly veggie-heavy, which works out well for vegetarians.

"We typically instruct our patients to have four to five servings of nonstarchy vegetables per day as part of a well-formulated ketogenic diet," Dr. Phinney explained. "While this seems like a lot to some of our omnivore patients, it's just a normal day for a vegetarian."

Of course, be sure to speak to your doctor and other healthcare providers before making any major dietary changes, including going on the keto diet.

Ever Wonder If Simply Walking More Can Help You Lose Weight? Here's Your Answer

When we think about the things that help us lose weight quickly, our minds automatically go to the more drastic or complicated things: being in a calorie deficit, doing a lot of HIIT cardio, swearing off sugar and soda, etc. But what if there were a simpler way to lose weight? Well, there might be.

Walking may sound like a wildly easy way to exercise, almost to the point where you might not think it has an effect on the body. That's where you're wrong, though. Walking is actually a great form of LISS (low-intensity sustained state) cardio, and if you walk briskly, you'll get your heart rate up, improve your cardiovascular health, and burn calories. You can actually burn up to 120 calories an hour when walking.

Celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak is a huge fan of walking, and encourages many of his clients to do more of it every day. He wants your goal to be 10,000 steps a day if you want to lose weight, and every last one of those steps can be from walking if you want. "That is a minimum," Harley told POPSUGAR. "For a lot of people, this is a real, simple thing to start with. I don't [tell clients] you need to start eating tofu, become gluten intolerant, whatever - just start moving. Be a little more active."

Besides, walking is a safe, risk-free form of exercise that you can do for a long period of time with friends or by yourself if you need some alone time. Just make sure you're walking fast enough to where you're slightly out of breath, but no need to go so fast you're huffing for air.

If you don't believe us yet, Brooke lost over 100 pounds and went from a size 22 to size 12 - and it all started with her walking 10,000 steps a day. So if weight loss is a goal of yours, just try walking more each and every day. Paired with a healthy diet and a good amount of sleep, this will help you reach your goals faster!

Experts Say This Is How Much Body Fat and Weight You Could Lose in a Month

There's no one-size-fits-all method to losing weight and lowering your overall body fat percentage. Some people rely on diets like the ketogenic diet to lose weight, while others simply reduce the amount of processed foods they eat and adopt a consistent workout routine. The amount of body fat and weight you can lose in a given month will vary based on your current weight, diet, and activity level, to name a few variables that impact weight loss. To find out how much body fat and weight you can realistically expect to lose in a month, POPSUGAR spoke to the experts.

How Much Body Fat You Can Expect to Lose

"Under the assumption that nutrition is 100 percent during this process, it depends on the weight and body fat of each woman," said Stephen Cheuk, certificate IV Australian Institute of Personal Trainers certified trainer and founder of S10 Training in New York City. He explained that a woman who is already relatively lean (18 to 28 percent body fat) and strength trains can lose anywhere from 0.5 to 0.8 body fat in a single week. "If a woman is on the heavier side in weight and has a higher body fat percentage (over 28 percent), she could lose a minimum of one percent body fat a week," Stephen said.

How Much Weight You Can Expect to Lose

Pratik Patel, MS, RD, CSSD, CSCS, New York Giants director of performance nutrition and assistant strength and conditioning coach, told POPSUGAR, "If you can steadily lose anywhere from 1/2 pound to 1-2 pounds a week, you know you can control it." According to Pratik, a realistic and healthy way to achieve this would be to implement a calorie deficit.

One pound comes from about 3,500 calories, and if you eat 500 fewer calories than you burn from working out and other physical activity every day for a week, you'll be down one pound. By increasing this deficit to 750 calories a day for one week, you'll have lost one and a half pounds. Eating 1,000 fewer calories than what you burn with exercise will put you at a two-pound loss in a single week. This means that in a month you could lose anywhere from four to eight pounds. Pratik explained that losing no more than two pounds a week will ensure that you're burning fat instead of breaking down your muscle tissue.

Emmie Satrazemis, RD, CSSD, nutrition director at Trifecta, said, "Weight loss is strongly determined by one's age, starting body weight, their fitness levels, current body composition, and overall health." According to her, people who have more weight to lose and who currently consume a high calorie diet may lose more weight and quicker because "it is easier to cut high amounts of calories from a diet that is high in calories to begin with."

For sustainable weight loss, she recommends decreasing one's caloric intake by 15 percent and absolutely no more than 20 percent a day. She explained that going from eating 2,000 calories to 1,700 calories a day will result in a little over half of a pound of weight loss per week. "For some, losing one to two pounds a week is not realistic, while others may lose even more than that," she said. Emmie explained that consistent exercise can help you lose more weight but it may also increase your appetite. Because of this, she advises adjusting your caloric intake to accommodate an increased appetite.

Remember, before making any changes to your diet, please consult your doctor.

5 Changes I Made in My Life to Lose Face Fat and Get Healthy

When I was overweight and unhealthy, there were a lot of things I wanted to change. First and foremost, I wanted to have more energy and feel more like myself so I could go about my life like I used to. But I also wanted to fit into my clothes again, as well as reduce the extra weight that had been added to my face and neck area.

Getting rid of face fat may sound great for someone who wants to lose weight, but the sad truth is, you can't spot-reduce fat anywhere on your body, including (and especially) your face. However, it is possible! You just have to lose weight everywhere so that your hard work eventually reaches your face. These are the five things I did to lose face fat, and feel more confident and healthier than ever.

I Freed Myself From Bloating With These 3 Simple Diet Tweaks

Bloating is a widespread epidemic that many women suffer from on a daily basis. Not only is it annoying, but it usually means our body isn't processing or digesting food properly. I work out at least four days a week and have a relatively healthy diet, but despite my efforts, I still felt perpetually bloated and uncomfortable. Feeling frustrated and hopeless, I asked my trainer what else I could do to get rid of this annoying feeling. I made three small tweaks to my daily diet and lost five pounds in one week, eliminating the endless bloat I felt. Here's how I did it.

I Drank Lots of Water

When my trainer told me to drink a gallon of water a day, I thought he was crazy. I told him there was no way my body could even manage that amount of water. I thought for sure downing a gallon of water would only make me feel more bloated. Despite my griping, he told me to give it a try, so I did. To be honest, I did feel a little more bloated for the first day or two, but per his instructions, I was patient. After a week, to my surprise, it actually worked. Don't get me wrong, though, I had to pee a lot.

Drinking a gallon of water a day allowed me to flush out all the excess salt and sugar in my system that was already making me bloated. After the first week, I didn't have to continue my gallon a day challenge, but I do still aim to drink about 128 ounces of water a day. Not only does water help regulate your system, but it also manages hunger.

I Added Fiber to My Diet

My next task was to add fiber into my diet, ideally into every meal. So I added ground flax seeds to my morning oatmeal and various veggies throughout the day like celery. I work a desk job, so I munch on celery a lot when I'm hungry between meals. These fiber-enriched foods are also low in calories, making me feel fuller for longer.

Fiber helped my bloating because I wasn't overeating, so I was eliminating extra calories, also contributing to weight loss. It also helps with constipation, which can cause gas and bloating. The weird thing is that your body can't actually digest fiber, so when you eat it, your body is working harder and you're actually burning more calories than the calories in the food itself.

I Cut Back on Sugar

This task was probably the hardest one on my list. I love to put copious amounts of cream and sugar in my coffee to start off my day. I also work in an office setting so someone usually has a sugary treat that I can't pass up. This was part of my problem, though, so getting rid of those "treats" was necessary. Don't get me wrong, I didn't go crazy and eliminate every source of sugar in my diet – just refined sugar. A lot of foods naturally have some sugar in them, and that's OK, but my days of drinking sugar-infused coffee and soda were over. Hello, black coffee.

Cutting back on my sugar intake would make sure I didn't undo the damage that I worked so hard to correct. I didn't want any more unnecessary sugar sitting in my system making me feel bloated. Honestly, the more I cut sugar out, the less I craved it. Soon enough, if I had sugary coffee, it was actually too much for me. I preferred black.

Bloating is different for everyone, and what worked for me may not work for you. It takes practice and patience to figure out how your body responds to certain foods. I get it, sometimes you just want to throw your hands up in the air and give up – don't, though. Just keep going until you find what's right.

Does Drinking Cold Water Actually Aid Weight Loss? Finally, Here's You're Answer

You may have heard that drinking cold water can help you burn more calories throughout the day, but unfortunately, that tip is merely myth. Although it makes sense to think that your body would use more energy to heat the water to its core temperature, studies have found that the amount of calories burned (about four to seven calories per glass) is too minimal to actually make a difference. However, drinking cold water does offer benefits outside of weight loss.

According to Jacqueline Schaffer, MD, a board-certified medical doctor, "cold water can increase blood circulation on the skin's surface specifically," which can promote the appearance of glowing skin. Additionally, research has shown that drinking cold water during exercise can decrease dehydration and make you feel less tired, helping you work out longer as a result. The reason being that it helps keep your core body temperature cool.

But regardless of what temperature your water is, the most important thing is that you're drinking water at all. Dehydration is not something to take lightly: it can cause fatigue, irritability, muscle cramps, dizziness, and headaches, and even cause your metabolism to slow down without the ability to remove waste. A good rule of thumb is to to drink about half of your bodyweight (in pounds) in fluid ounces.

Moral of the story: just drink water. Period.

4 Ways Intermittent Fasting Helped Me Lose Body Fat Everywhere, Especially My Belly

I used to think that skipping meals was a recipe for disaster, but I quickly learned that intermittent fasting (IF) has a lot of benefits that can help you lose weight and shed body fat. IF isn't a diet, but rather it's a lifestyle where you eat all your meals within an eight-hour window and fast for the remaining 16 hours of the day.

I started doing IF a year ago, and that (coupled with regular exercising) helped me lose a percentage of body fat and drop two dress sizes. I was even able to gain a few pounds of muscle over the course of a few months. IF was a huge game changer for me, and more importantly, it helped me feel my very best. Here are four ways IF helped me lose body fat everywhere, especially my belly.

I Was Shocked How Little Protein I Was Eating! This Is What Happened When I Ate More

If you want to lose fat and gain muscle, many experts suggest upping the amount of protein you eat daily. The protein amount recommended for my weight and my activity level (yay CrossFit!) is about 100 grams of protein per day. I wasn't sure how much I was getting but assumed it was around 75 grams. (Spoiler alert: I was wrong.) Would increasing my protein intake really make a difference? I decided to do a week-long experiment to find out.

AAP Warns Against Putting Plastic Bottles, Sippy Cups, and Bowls in the Microwave and Dishwasher

A new report from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) published in the August edition of Pediatrics is calling for stricter regulations surrounding food safety in the US. The AAP particularly wants to warn parents about the dangers associated with reheating several types of plastic via microwaves and dishwashers.

Experts looked at several studies and determined that "chemicals found in food colorings, preservatives, and packaging materials may harm children's health." The report listed the dangers of certain substances, like bisphenols, phthalates, and nitrates - indirect additives that are often found in foods' processing and packaging - that can be especially hazardous to infants and kids.

"We're especially concerned about significant gaps in data about the health effects of many of these chemicals on infants and children."

"Since heat can cause plastics to leak BPA and phthalates into food, avoid microwaving food or beverages (including infant formula and pumped human milk) in plastic when possible," said the report. "Also try to avoid putting plastics in the dishwasher."

Currently, the FDA doesn't have the authority to retest packaging on items that have already been approved for the market, so the AAP has drummed up some ways parents can keep their children safe from these potentially harmful chemicals:

  • Buy and serve more fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables and fewer processed meats - especially during pregnancy.
  • Since heat can cause plastics to leak BPA and phthalates into food, avoid microwaving food or beverages (including infant formula and pumped human milk) in plastic when possible. Try to avoid putting plastics in the dishwasher.
  • Use alternatives to plastic - such as glass or stainless steel - when possible.
  • Avoid plastics with recycling codes 3 (phthalates), 6 (styrene), and 7 (bisphenols) unless they are labeled as "biobased" or "greenware."
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before and after touching food, and clean all fruits and vegetables that cannot be peeled.

Dr. Leonardo Trasande, MD, an AAP Council on Environmental Health member and lead author of the policy statement, said that enforcing these guidelines should be a top priority for parents.

"There are critical weaknesses in the current food additives regulatory process, which doesn't do enough to ensure all chemicals added to foods are safe enough to be part of a family's diet," he said. "As pediatricians, we're especially concerned about significant gaps in data about the health effects of many of these chemicals on infants and children."

6 Ways Being the Middle Child Prepared Me For Life

As the middle child of three kids, there are some things about the so-called "middle child syndrome" that ring true. The guilt some parents have about neglecting their middle child is probably the biggest reason people pity us. Some might assume that our easygoing demeanor means we're easily taken advantage of or that the amount of attention we get determines how much ambition we'll have. And while the sum of these assumptions points to a pretty pitiful existence, there are plenty of character-enriching perks to being the middle kid. I'm absolutely convinced that my birth order has given me one solid advantage for every perceived disadvantage. Here are six ways being in the middle has prepared me for life.

We Found the Chic Bouncer You’ve Been Staring at From Joanna Gaines's Nursery

If you spent the earlier part of the day drooling over the chic wooden rocking chair from Joanna Gaines's nursery and have been curious about what other items she has inside of baby Crew's room, then you probably also devoted your lunch break to zooming in on the minimalist bouncer in the far left corner where Crew was resting.

Made by designer Charlie Crane, the simple rocker has an obvious Scandinavian aesthetic with a slick wooden frame and neutral-toned fabric for baby. It's available in a number of calming shades, and you can shop it ahead. Given how many people have been looking for this online, we wouldn't be surprised if it sold out.

These Photos of Cats With Their Tiny Humans Prove Dogs Have Nothing on Felines

Bringing your baby home is one of the most memorable - and tiring - points in parents' lives. And while there's no doubt that your newborn will take up the bulk of your time, that doesn't necessarily mean that your furry friends need to take a back seat. For pet moms and dads, ensuring your new human hits it off with your furbaby is a top priority - and cats are no exception.

While we totally know that dogs get all the credit for being baby's BFF, cats are also known for getting some serious quality time with teeny bundles of joy. And thankfully, some parents have been quick enough with their phones to capture these sweet moments on camera.

Scroll through to get a peek at some of the seriously adorable photos of cats and their humans to see for yourself, and try not to sprint to your closest pet shelter in the process.

We Cannot Stop Drooling Over the Changing Table Joanna Gaines Has in Her Nursery

If you've ever been in a nursery room, no matter how hard the parents try to decorate it in a tasteful way, chances are the changing table is one of those things that leaves a lot to be desired. They're usually a solid color - gray, maybe white - but definitely not something you'd ogle. It's just a place to put a baby when it's time to change a diaper.

But then we caught wind of Joanna Gaines's nursery and realized that you actually can have a chic changing table. In fact, one so chic that we'd want to put it in our bedroom to store everyday knickknacks in. If you've been staring at her nursery room photo in hopes of creating a similar one for your little bundle, we found the wicker table where Crew gets his diapers changed.

This Family's "Time to Put Down the Fortnite" Parody Will Have Parents Saying, "Thank God!"

Unfortunately, for parents with older kids, listening to them scream back and forth over the inner workings of Fortnite has become a common occurrence. And while some moms have taken to lip-syncing their children playing to make a point, the Holderness family took another hilarious route by parodying the Black Eyed Pea's pump-up song "I Got a Feeling" in a now-viral video. Of course, they swapped out some of the words to poke fun at their Fortnite-addicted offspring.

In typical Holderness family fashion, the song is catchy as hell, and any parent who has had to turn off the game on their kids after hours of playing can totally relate. The parents touch on how all-encompassing the game can be, describing the "ring of junk food around the rug" that magically appears and the fact that their kids become so engrossed in winning that they only take "seven steps" in a day. But the kicker? In all his efforts, the dad ends up becoming addicted to the game himself by the end of the video!

If only it was as easy as pulling the plug.

Forget Turkey Sandwiches, These Insulated Containers Mean School Lunches Can Be Served Hot

There's literally no task more daunting than having to make a school lunch for your child every night or morning, especially when you have zero inspiration for how to shake things up. Well, it's time to put down the turkey sandwich fixings and pick up something you prepped in the slow cooker or leftovers waiting in the fridge to be eaten, because you don't need to serve something that will keep at room temperature anymore. Thanks to these insulated containers and lunch boxes, you can ensure your child has a warm (or fresh and cold, minus the condensation) meal by the time their lunch hour rolls around.

Serve a quick batch of scrambled eggs, soups, Instant Pot meals, leftovers, and more in these insulated containers - your kids will thank you!

Life Hack: You Can Cook Frozen Chicken in Your Instant Pot - and It Only Takes 12 Minutes!

Proud owner of an Instant Pot? Then you're probably aware of the fact that this handy-dandy contraption can make just about anything - including yogurt and wine - if you're game. But for busy parents everywhere, the Instant Pot can be a big lifesaver as far as dinner is concerned. Why? Because you can actually cook frozen chicken in it on the days you forgot to take it out of the freezer before leaving the house.

Luckily, taking your chicken from its frozen state to something you can actually work with takes much less time than we originally thought. Although your exact cook time will depend on the amount of meat you're trying to defrost, it usually takes anywhere between 10 and 12 minutes to completely defrost a couple of average-sized chicken breasts. If you prefer your chicken more firm or have plans to shred it, simply program your Instant Pot to 12 minutes on the manual setting and get started on the rest of your meal.

And if you're really in a rush, try adding a 1/2 a cup of water or broth per two pounds of frozen chicken to speed the process up. It's also possible to kill two birds with one stone (pun intended!) by adding salt and pepper - or any seasoning of your choice - into the pot along with your favorite marinade. Just be sure the chicken's temperature is above 165 degrees Fahrenheit or that it's not pink in the middle once you release the pressure and pull it out of the pot.

Could it get any easier than that? We think not!

The 1 Product That Finally Cured My Flaky Scalp - For Good

There are not enough Justin Bieber posters in this world to convince me to upload a zoomed-in photo of my scalp - how am I to know just how much grisly content you can stomach? - so I'll leave it at this: I have dandruff. There. I said it.

Unfortunately, seborrheic dermatitis has never been cute. (Just ask the 50 percent of the population with the condition.) For me, the flaky scalp situation is self-inflicted - an itchy upshot of my mildly unhealthy obsession with dry shampoo. Then Kenra Professional's Platinum Deep Detox Scrub ($28) landed on my desk last month and instilled a little faith in me. Let me explain.

For starters, the clarifying scrub is packed with activated charcoal, the vacuum of all beauty ingredients that effectively sucks up dirt and oil (or, as I like to call it, the layers upon layers of dry shampoo on my scalp). Plus, unlike traditional physical scrubs, the exfoliating particles in this formula are microscopic, so you can barely notice a thing when you're rubbing it onto your head. I've used it once a week for a month and it feels amazing, smells like heaven in a bottle, and perhaps most impressive of all, has completely eradicated flakes.

Of course, you'd have to pry my beloved Klorane dry shampoo from my hands before I ever gave it up, so you can believe I'm still up to my non-showering shenanigans, but the fact that I'm not seeing nearly as much dandruff by day three (or five) is enough of a win for me. Bieber, come at me.

Just Because You're Having a Baby Over 35 Doesn't Mean You're Old - Here's What You Should Know

When you think of the word "geriatric," what comes to mind? A nursing home? A broken hip? A slew of grandpas doing water aerobics, perhaps? We thought so! In a personal essay published in The Magnolia Journal, former HGTV star Joanna Gaines got real about what it's actually like being pregnant at 40 years old, and yes, the phrase "geriatric pregnancy" certainly came up.

Although Joanna admitted that she definitely felt more fatigued while carrying baby Crew compared to her four other pregnancies, she explained that having a child at 40 really doesn't have to feel impossible. And given recent socioeconomic trends, she's definitely not alone. Researchers have noted that more women are opting to have children later in life, which means that the number of geriatric pregnancies by medical terms is on the rise. And while there's no denying that having babies later in life does carry some risk - developing high blood pressure and giving birth prematurely to name a few - there are also benefits for mamas who fit right into that geriatric pregnancy category.

Read through to get some intel on this whole "geriatric pregnancy" thing - and try not to picture old men waving their hands around in the pool while you read.

Every Twisted Character Jessica Lange Has Played on American Horror Story

Each season of American Horror Story is more twisted than the last, and judging by the new trailer for the eighth season, AHS: Apocalypse, we're in for some real treats. This upcoming season is still a bit of a mystery, but one thing we do know is that veteran Jessica Lange will be returning to the show. Lange plays some of the most iconic characters in the first four seasons of the series but said at PaleyFest in 2015 that she was done with the show. Thankfully she changed her mind, as fellow AHS star Sarah Paulson revealed at this month's TCA Summer press tour.

We have a few ideas of who Lange might play in season eight, but we're really open to anything at this point - we're just glad she's back in action - though a reprise of Murder House's Constance Langdon is at the top of our list. To jog your memory about each of the characters Lange has played on the show so far, keep reading.

Warning: major spoilers ahead!

Why The Keto Diet Has This Unpleasant Side Effect (and It's Not Just Bad Breath)

It's no surprise why the keto diet has grown in popularity; it's helped countless people lose weight and get control of their blood sugar. But it also comes with some gnarly side effects; bad breath, known as "keto breath," for one.

But there's another unpleasant oral side effect that happens when you are on the keto diet and your body goes into a state of ketosis: dry mouth. This dry mouth or cotton mouth is the result of ketosis as well as what you're eating to fuel your diet. Although this side effect isn't supercommon, it can impact people who are following a keto diet, explained Steve Phinney, MD, PhD, chief medical officer at Virta Health.

Related: Curious to Try the Keto Diet? Here's Everything You Can and Cannot Eat

"Due to the fact that nutritional ketosis increases sodium (salt) excretion by the kidneys, if a person severely restricts salt intake in combination with this diet, dehydration symptoms like headache, fatigue, exercise intolerance, dry mouth, and constipation can occur," Dr. Phinney said.

Although these symptoms are unpleasant, they can be remedied pretty easily; he recommends drink one to two cups a day of salt-containing broth.

As always, you should consult with your doctor before making any drastic dietary changes, including embarking on the keto diet. Since there are some other negative side effects associated with the keto diet, it's best to weight your options and get advice from a healthcare provider.

10 Times Meghan Markle's Hats Had You Saying, "Hey, Eyes Up Here!"

I've had more fun obsessing over Meghan Markle's style than I've had with my own friends this year. OK, that's a bit dramatic, but it has been really exciting for me to see what gorgeous dress, stunning shoes, or shockingly affordable bag the Duchess of Sussex shows up with during her royal appearances. Now that she's officially a member of Britain's most famous family, there are many sartorial rules Meghan has to abide by (not that she always follows them), and one of them includes wearing hats.

For the royal family, hats aren't just fun ways to punch up an outfit or shield your eyes from the sun. Up until the 1950s, showing your hair in public was not allowed, though these days hats are only reserved for more formal daytime events such as church services, weddings, and Trooping the Colour. Needless to say, Meghan has already mastered her royal hat game at all of these events, from her debuts at annual festivities like Christmas service and Royal Ascot to attending the weddings of Harry's close friends. See what I mean when you scroll through and devour Meghan's best headwear moments.

High-Volume vs. Calorie-Dense: See Which Fruits Best Fit Your Goal

Crazy Rich Asians: You Might Not Recognize Nick Now, but You Will

Josh in Clueless. Joe in You've Got Mail. Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones's Diary. Rom-com heroes are some of the biggest fan favorites in film. More and more, they're played by established actors with built-in fan bases, although that's not always the case: some of your favorite characters were played by actors before they were famous! With the upcoming release of Crazy Rich Asians, it looks like we might have a new leading man to love.

Actor Henry Golding plays Nick Young, the handsome and brilliant history professor descended from Singaporean wealth who's one half of the film's central couple. If you're wondering why he doesn't look too familiar, well, that's because he's a relative newcomer. But not to worry, we've put together all the info we can on your new Summer movie crush.

Crazy Rich Asians is, it turns out, Golding's first feature film role! But it won't be his last. He already has another movie, A Simple Favor, in postproduction, scheduled for release in September of this year and also starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively. He's also been cast as the lead in Monsoon, a drama currently in preproduction.

Even so, Golding is no stranger to being on screen. He's spent the past four years as a host on a British TV show, BBC's The Travel Show. In 2017, Discovery aired an episode of Surviving Borneo in which Golding appeared, where he brought along a camera on his two-month-long traditional coming-of-age rites.

You'll have to watch when Crazy Rich Asians hits theaters this month to see Nick Young sweep Constance Wu's Rachel off her feet!

Experts Weigh in on How to Lose Weight - and Keep It Off

When it comes to weight loss, there really is no "one size fits all" approach to getting to where you want to be - whether you're focused on dropping pounds and trimming inches or simply feeling better in your skin. But there are a few standard tips and tricks that experts generally rely on when helping their patients and clients meet their goals.

At the most basic level, "Weight loss is a reduction of calories in versus calories out," Dr. Lauren Green, assistant professor in neurology at the University of Southern California and registered dietitian, told POPSUGAR. So if we eat less and exercise more, we will lose weight. But there's also a lot more to it than that.

To give you the full picture, we also talked with Dr. Sriram Machineni, director of the Medical Weight Clinic at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and assistant professor at UNC's School of Medicine, and Liz Weinandy, registered dietitian at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, OH, for their insight on the topic.

Read on for what these three medical professionals had to say about what we can all do to achieve a healthier lifestyle.
