A Trainer Says This Is the 1 Move You Need to Do If You Want to See Your Lower Abs
If sculpted abs are your thing, or perhaps you're just looking for a challenge, I've got the move for you: the hanging knee raise. I love doing this move because it feels like every single muscle in your body is working at once - because they are! You're going to feel this move throughout your core, especially in your lower abdominals. If you're ready for a challenge, continue reading to learn how to do the hanging knee raise.
Hanging Knee Raise
- Start by hanging on a pull-up bar with palms facing out, or use the ab straps and hang with your arms inside of them. Do use a box or bench if you need help reaching the bar.
- Pull your shoulder blades down your back to keep your shoulders away from your ears.
- Engage your abs as you simultaneously lift both knees up to your chest with control.
- Lower the legs down slowly and return to the starting position. This completes one rep.
- Complete two sets of 10 reps.
- Avoid swinging during this move to ensure that you're really working your abs.
- If this move is too hard, you can do seated knee tucks or reverse crunches on the ground.

The Adorable Thing Kate and William Always Do When They Talk to George and Charlotte
Kate Middleton and Prince William have always had a soft spot for kids. Even before they became a family of five, it wasn't rare to see them interact with some of their youngest fans during official visits and royal tours, and they've since been able to put those skills to good use.
While the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge do get helped by a nanny, it doesn't stop them from being hands on parents to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. In fact, Kate and William seem to be approaching parenthood in a way that few other royals have: whatever the occasion, the young parents can often be seen kneeling down when they talk to their adorable children.
By using this technique, Kate and William don't try to assert their authority over George or Charlotte; instead, they are able to look into their eyes, encouraging them to communicate even more and showing them that what they're saying really matters. Of course, this has resulted in William being hilariously scolded by the Queen, but we can't help but love this small gesture.

All Is Not Well With the Coopers in Riverdale's "Treacherous" Third Season
Mädchen Amick was among the guests at Variety's Power of Young Hollywood Event sponsored by H&M in LA on Aug. 28. Luckily, I was able to grab her for a quick interview on the red carpet, which meant I could grill her with some pressing questions about Riverdale's highly anticipated third season. Suffice it to say, the Coopers have been through a lot. After all, they had to deal with Chic (including the murder he came with), the revelation that Hal is actually the Black Hood, and even the near-death of Jughead. With all that in the rear view, I asked Amick if maybe the Coopers would have a chance to catch their breath. She gave me a resounding no. "Of course not! They live in Riverdale!" she said with a laugh.
Given everything that happened, it should come as no surprise that Alice is doing everything she can to mend from the horrors of season two. How does she do it? Well, it turns out she has a pretty unconventional way of processing her grief. "Alice gets lured into the very mysterious and troublesome cult that's been moving, and that Polly's been involved in," Amick revealed to me. She's, of course, referring to the Sisters of Quiet Mercy, which is a nunnery that has a pretty shady operation bubbling under the surface. "She's going in deep," Amick continued, "because she's looking to heal her wounds. And she thinks this is a way she can kind of make amends with what happened to the Cooper family."
I noted that Alice must be completely shaken after finding out her husband was the Black Hood all along, and Amick completely agreed. "She's rethinking her entire life," she said. But there's a silver lining to this unsettling cult situation: it will reconnect Alice with the daughter who's been tied closely with the sisters since the start of the series. "Alice and Polly get much closer through that journey, which of course just worries Betty. She's just like, 'Oh my gosh, now I'm losing another family member.'"
This begs the question: how will Alice support Betty while she's trying to reckon with the ghosts of her own past? "It's hard. Her hands are full. So it leaves Betty to have to deal with this alone," Amick said. But there's obviously a bright side: Betty's pretty well-equipped to handle her own baggage. "I feel like Betty is the adult of the family; she takes care of everyone, she's the top of the pyramid. And, you know, Alice thinks that she is, but she's not. Betty's way smarter."
Before I let Amick go, I asked if she could tell me anything about the season three premiere, even a word that might give us a hint of what we're in for. "Treacherous," she said with a grin. Oh, boy. Looks like things are only going to get darker for Archie and friends when the next chapter begins.
The third season of Riverdale will premiere on Oct. 10.

The First Official Footage of American Horror Story: Apocalypse Will Have You Screaming
The end is nigh. On Sept. 4, FX dropped the first official preview of what nightmares lay ahead on American Horror Story: Apocalypse. Sure, we've already seen a conceptual trailer and tons of creepy teasers, but this is the first time we're seeing all of our favorite returning characters in the flesh! The new preview doesn't give a ton away in terms of plot, but it does give us glimpses of all sorts of goodies, including Jessica Lange as Constance, Cody Fern as Michael Langdon, and all the witches of the New Orleans coven. It's unclear if we're getting an even longer trailer in the days leading up to the Sept. 12 premiere, but we're going to start screaming now, just to be safe.
Shameless: This Is Everything That Happened in Season 8
If you're new to Shameless, the first thing you need to know is that the Gallaghers always look out for each other. After all, the family that schemes together, stays together. And while the Chicago clan often tries (and fails) to shed its dysfunctional roots, the eighth season proves nobody does bad better than our South Side heroes. Who can forget Frank submerging himself in a portable toilet to escape authorities? Or, the night Frank amputates three of Debbie's toes with a pair of pliers? Or better yet, Ian's turn as "Gay Jesus"? If we've lost you, don't worry.
The ninth season of Shameless is set to air on Showtime this Fall, and it sounds like it'll be Emmy Rossum's last as Fiona, so this is the perfect time to reexamine all of the juicy Season 8 details.

A Total Stranger Mom-Shamed Me For Not Breastfeeding, and It Hurt Like Hell
Many years have passed since this incident, but a total stranger's horrible comment about my decision not to breastfeed my daughter still haunts me. I never even saw this person face to face, since she mom-shamed me online. Still, her harsh words ring in my ears to this day.
It all started because I'd written a blog post about why I chose to formula feed and how well it was going following an emotional, but ultimately failed, experience with breastfeeding. I felt good sharing my story and hoped it would help other moms who were also struggling to breastfeed embrace formula feeding without feeling guilty or ashamed. I shouldn't have read the comments; I knew I shouldn't have read the comments. But I did, and there they were - words that cut me so deep, it was as if I'd just been stabbed in the heart: YOU DON'T DESERVE TO BE A MOTHER.
There they were - words that cut me so deep, it was as if I'd just been stabbed in the heart: YOU DON'T DESERVE TO BE A MOTHER.
There was more. Some stuff about how selfish I was for not breastfeeding, and how my kids would grow up to hate me. You know, your typical internet troll rant that I should have ignored or laughed off. But for some reason, I couldn't. Maybe it was because this stranger had laid bare my deepest fears, namely that because I'd failed to make breastfeeding work, I was somehow less of a good mother for my child. Or that, just as she'd hinted, I could never stack up against other moms who breastfed, and their kids were better off.
Against my better judgment, I wrote back to let this person know how badly her comment hurt me. Then I chastised myself even more for letting her know she'd "won" by getting a reaction out of me. Luckily, I was able to wrangle up enough self-control to close my laptop and never look to see whether she'd responded with more garbage. But I'd be lying if I claimed that was the end of it. In tears, I went to my husband and recounted the vile things this mom-shamer had said to me. Of course, he said exactly what I needed to hear: That this person didn't know me. She had no idea what kind of mom I was. And it was easy for her to say horrible stuff about me from the safety of her computer, wherever the hell she lived.
I knew all of this was true. But it took me days, maybe weeks, to get her comment out of my mind. YOU DON'T DESERVE TO BE A MOTHER. YOU DON'T DESERVE TO BE A MOTHER. Years later, I still remember how badly her words hurt. And any time I'm feeling insecure or down on myself about my parenting choices, I hear those words in my head: YOU DON'T DESERVE TO BE A MOTHER.
I can't change what was said or how negatively it affected me, but here's the positive I take away: mom-shaming has a real impact. No matter how casually someone makes a remark, it can stay with a mother forever. And while I'm much more content with my parenting choices now and try not to let that noise affect me, I'll never forget it. And in turn, I watch what I say to other moms, both in person and online. You never know how low she's feeling or how much saying something supportive instead could change her life for the better.

Prince Harry's Incredibly Sweet Pinky Promise With a Sick Little Girl Will Touch Your Heart
It's no secret that Prince Harry adores kids, but his latest interaction with a little girl has us in a puddle of tears. On Tuesday, the royal attended London's WellChild Awards with Meghan Markle, where the pair met with children who were honored for their bravery and courage. One of those kids was 7-year-old Matilda Booth, who has spina bifida and is paralyzed from the chest down. During their meeting, Harry and Matilda shared an incredibly sweet moment when Harry told her to "never stop smiling." "He made her pinky promise to always keep that beautiful smile," Matila's mom, Sharon Booth, told People. "[Harry and Meghan] made us feel so much at ease. They were both so nice."
And things only got cuter from there! Matilda presented Meghan with a bouquet of flowers, and in return, Meghan plucked one of the roses from the bouquet and gave it to Matilda to keep. "She just seems so gentle and sincere," Sharon added. "They were just like normal people." Yep, Harry and Meghan are going to make great parents one day.

The star's fans couldn't wait to get a better look at her new cut, and luckily just a few days later, Condor shared an up-close shot.

A Love Letter to School Uniforms
Dear School Uniforms,
Many schools across America are switching to you for their students. The kids may hate you, but as a parent who's children attend a school that enforces uniforms, I sure as hell love you.
Thank you, school uniforms, for decreasing the amount of laundry I have to do by an unfathomable amount every week. Instead of the normal five loads of different colored clothes I'd have to wash, I now only have two. Less loads of laundry equals less electricity, which also equals more money in mama's pocket and more sanity in my always-stressed brain. Thank you for also arriving stiff as hell, so that I don't have to iron your pants and jumpers at the beginning of the school year. You really know how to make a girl feel seen.
Thank you for making mornings with my children go smoother. Instead of me being the bad guy and crushing my first grader's fashion desire to wear red polka dot shorts with an orange striped shirt to school, she has no choice but to wear you. And instead of arguing with my tween about wearing short shorts, you're there for her every single day. Oh, how many fights you've helped me avoid.
Last but certainly not least, thank you, school uniforms, for teaching our youth that fashion, popular brands, and expensive clothing aren't everything. Instead of worrying about whether their shirt is "cool" enough or their pants look "hipster" enough to fit in with their peers, our children are able to focus on more important things in school, like learning and making friends.
So, thank you, school uniforms. I am so glad for the plaid.
Love Always,
A Grateful Mom

8 Minutes Is All You Need For Poached Chicken in an Instant Pot
There's so much to love about the Instant Pot, including this technique for poaching chicken in less than 10 minutes. Poaching chicken over the stovetop usually takes around 20-30 minutes, so this is a significant time slasher.
Here's the method:
- Fill the Instant Pot a little less than 2/3 full with boneless, skinless chicken. Cover with chicken broth. Add a few cloves of garlic, a few bay leaves, or a sprig of thyme (optional). Do not allow the liquid to exceed the 2/3-full mark. Close the lid as the manual instructs, making sure the pressure release handle is secured in the sealed position.
- Press the [Manual] button and use the [+] or [-] buttons to choose 8 minutes of cook time. Once the Instant Pot has finished the cook time, unplug it. Use the "Quick Release" method of opening the cooker by carefully turning the pressure release handle to the "venting" position to let out steam until the float valve drops down. Carefully open the lid.
- Remove chicken breasts and place on a cutting board. Shred using two forks or in a stand-up mixer with the paddle attachment.
- Return the chicken to the broth and use as a soup base or keep chicken and broth separated, reserving them for other uses.
One you've tried this quick cooking method, you may be inspired to try out these other Instant Pot recipes including our chicken soup with 40 cloves of garlic. Have you tried cooking with the Instant Pot? Share your hacks and cooking tips with us!

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Dog Has a Name, and It's Fit For a King
We recently found out that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle adopted a Labrador Retriever last month, and now we finally know his name! According to People, the couple's new furry addition is named Oz. It's unclear what the inspiration behind his name was, but People notes that a famous poem by Percy Shelley titled "Ozymandias" is about an Egyptian ruler who calls himself the "king of kings." It could also be a nod to Harry's upcoming Invictus Games, which will be taking place in Sydney, Australia, in October. Oz has reportedly joined Meghan and Harry at their country home in Cotswolds and at Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.
Meghan and Harry are both dog-lovers. The royal has shared several adorable moments with dogs over the years; in fact, Harry even broke protocol once when he cuddled with one at the 2015 Royal Variety Performance. Meghan, on the other hand, previously had two rescue dogs, Guy and Bogart, but had to leave behind Bogart when she moved to London because he was reportedly too old to fly. Hopefully Oz makes his first royal appearance soon!

We Stopped Using Credit Cards, and It's Not as Easy as You'd Think
In the United States, it is reported that the average family has over $8,000 in credit card debt. That's over $1 trillion, and that number is steadily climbing. Credit cards have become a way of life for many people; some rely on them for emergencies and various unexpected expenses, while others use them to buy things that they just can't afford. Still others default to credit cards in hopes of racking up sky miles or other enticing rewards.
That's the trap into which we fell.
My husband and I each have a credit card through a bank with a generous rewards program. The points pile up quickly, and the amount of points needed for various rewards is reasonable. So we figured we might as well use the cards, especially for large purchases, and pay them off in full each month. And that worked. For a while. The problem was, we would lose track of just how much we charged each month. And instead of the $500 bill we were expecting, there would be an $800 bill. Eventually, all of the money we hadn't expected to spend - all of the money we couldn't see - had added up into the thousands. So whatever rewards the credit card company was giving us, it was making back (and then some) in interest.
It became obvious that this method wasn't working for us, as we were clearly the losers here. We decided to pay them off and stop using them altogether. It wasn't easy, but we haven't looked back since. Here are five things I learned along the way that may help if you're also considering breaking up with your plastic.
