My English Name Was Inspired by My Favorite Childhood Actress, and I Don't Regret It One Bit
Picture this: it's 1995, and you're rocking out to your favorite album: Aerosmith's compilation Big Ones. You turn up the volume on your Walkman, throw on a pair of fake Ray-Bans from the mall, grab a mini bag of Cheetos, and head out the door for your first pool day of the summer. Life is good. After listening to "Cryin'," "Amazing," and "Crazy" on repeat, punctuated by the soothing sounds of Cheeto crunch, you arrive at your local public pool. You plunk down $60 for a season pass, fill out a form, and wait for your summer to officially begin. But then your perfect mood dissipates in a shrill flash. "...King Lu?"
My Chinese name is Qing. It's a Chinese word that has no direct English equivalent; it's an adjective that combines "green" and "fresh." You could describe grass as "qing," or use the phrase "qing nian (year)" to mean "youth." My full name, Qing Lu (Lu Qing in China), means something to the effect of "green, fresh road" (although I recently learned that the real reason my mom chose Qing was to pay homage to a college friend who had saved her life).
But the definition of my name is not the tricky part. It's the pronunciation that has evaded nearly every new friend, teacher, and customer support representative I've encountered.
Qing is pronounced "Ching." Understandably, that's not exactly intuitive for most of the American population, at least not in suburban Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where I grew up. Most people who meet me will take a wild stab at pronouncing my name. About 60 percent of the time, they'll guess "Queen," with another 30 percent going with "King," as if I were a deck of cards in a magic trick. Then there's the 10 percent who just don't even bother. In my entire life, I can only think of one instance where a person I met knew how a Chinese "q" is pronounced.
"Ching chang walla walla bing bang!" was a common jingle that followed me around as a kid. Cute, right? Nope. I hated having a name that a) nobody could pronounce and b) was easy to turn into mock-Chinese. So, by the time I was 11, I was ready for a change.
"Culture is not a zero-sum game. The American influence and traits that I gained did not replace my Chinese heritage."
If you observe the naming practices of Chinese people living in the U.S., you might have noticed some head-scratchers, like Sweetie, Glory, or even iPhone. According to Lindsay Jernigan, who started bestenglishname.com to help Chinese people choose English names, that's because the naming culture in China is vastly different than in the States. Chinese names are often the same as regular words. Hence, the Victorys, Moneys, and Octopuses.
I, however, devised my own personal naming practice.
Growing up, the closest thing I had to adult supervision was MTV. My dad was pursuing a PhD in economics, which meant locking himself up and studying nonstop for 16 hours a day, every day. My mom worked as a housekeeper by day and waitressed at a local Chinese restaurant by night (she is now a VP and CEO of an American company, but her embodiment of the American Dream is meant for another story) just to put food on our table. That meant endless hours of unsupervised alone time for me. And like any good babysitter, MTV was my most constant companion, kept me out of trouble, and taught me aspects of the world that were perhaps a bit ahead of my time.
Take Aerosmith, for example.
The first time I saw Alicia Silverstone in the video for "Cryin'," something inside of me unlocked. Looking back, I'm pretty sure it was the very first layer of my womanhood prematurely peeking through, eager to see the world after observing this goddess exact revenge on her cheating boyfriend -how fine was Stephen Dorff back then, by the way?-and take down a thief with her badass kung fu kick.
A few months later, the video for "Amazing" came out, and I was thrilled to see Silverstone back in action, this time riding through the desert on a motorcycle with yet another stud, Jason London (Aerosmith really had impeccable taste with their casting choices). Just like in the "Cryin'" video, Silverstone had the same elusive, seductive quality that made me eager to leave girlhood behind. With just the slightest curl of her lip, she could bring a grown man to his knees.
And just when I thought 1993 couldn't be topped in terms of music videos, Aerosmith released the third video of the Silverstone trio, "Crazy," the following year. "Crazy" co-starred Steven Tyler's own daughter, Liv Tyler, as Silverstone's rebel friend. Together, the two break out of private school in a convertible and go on a rampage of shockingly deviant behavior that most definitely informed my developing moral compass at this very formative time in my life.
Watching these videos on repeat from ages 9 to 11 shaped the type of woman I wanted to grow into: a free-spirited, self-reliant nonconformist with a penchant for getting in trouble but the savvy to escape unscathed. Maybe I couldn't articulate it in such terms back then, but that was the general gist of what I aspired to be.
On July 19, 1995, the movie Clueless was released in theaters nationwide. Along with thousands of other pre-teen and teenage girls, I practically sprinted to my local AMC to watch my favorite actress on the big screen for the first time. In the movie, Silverstone plays a wealthy, popular high school student named Cher Horowitz who selflessly - if sometimes misguidedly - helps improve the lives of those around her. She's as known for her visionary fashion as she is for her witty catchphrases, many of which are now part of our current vernacular - we have Clueless to thank for "as if!," "I'm Audi," and the "whatever" hand gesture. Cher is at once endearingly naive (or "adorably clueless," as she would say) and cunningly shrewd (she's able to "argue her way" from a C+ to an A-). She's popular, but kind. The only peers getting bullied on her watch are the bullies (I'm looking at you, Amber).
If Silverstone's Aerosmith persona pushed me toward a path of misbehavior, then Cher reined me back onto a course of good conduct.
As Cher, Silverstone created a timeless cultural icon, as beloved 20 years ago as she is today. It may not have won any Academy Awards, but in my opinion, Clueless deserves its own place in the film canon. At the very least, it has a permanent place in my life history.

The summer of '95 was my last summer before entering middle school, an entirely new institution with entirely new faces. The vast majority of students wouldn't know me. I could start over. So I asked my parents if I could choose an American name for myself. They shrugged and said, "Sure, go ahead."
As if you couldn't see this coming for paragraphs now, I chose the name Alicia, still giddy from my Clueless high. But not wanting to be too much of a fangirl, I chose to pronounce my name A-lee-sha instead of A-lee-see-ah, à la Silverstone, lest I face a whole new chapter of mispronunciations (wouldn't that be ironic?). But my name choice was, without a doubt, an affectionate homage to my favorite actress.
"But while race is intrinsic in shaping our life experiences, the qualities she embodied - kindness, independence, ingenuity - transcended hair color, culture, and even racial identity."
What I didn't grasp back then, however, was the danger of looking up to someone who did not represent me culturally or ethnically. While other girls could see a piece of themselves in actresses like Silverstone, I knew that I could never actually live the same life, every time I looked in the mirror. But while race is intrinsic in shaping our life experiences, the qualities she embodied - kindness, independence, ingenuity - transcended hair color, culture, and even racial identity. Silverstone represented far more to me than any sense of otherness stemming from her whiteness.
Whenever I tell people this story, the thing that surprises them the most is not who I named myself after but the fact that I renamed myself to begin with, a rightfully foreign concept for non-foreigners. Some have criticized me - also, rightfully - for abandoning my Chinese heritage. I've given this considerable thought, and this is what I've realized: when a child grows up in an environment that constantly reminds her that she's "other," she will naturally try to adapt to survive, and sometimes that means shedding aspects of her own identity or assuming aspects of another. This might sound tragic, but my childhood was anything but. Even if I sometimes felt forced to suppress my Chinese roots in order to fit in, I found immeasurable joy in the big, wide world that was American pop culture.
Here's the thing: culture is not a zero-sum game. The American influence and traits I gained did not replace my Chinese heritage.
Even though I spent the last 23 years of my life as Alicia, I feel closer to Qing now more than ever. For me, that closeness formed as I matured and gained a more comprehensive understanding of my cultural and ethnic identity. It's unfortunate, but I wasn't ready to appreciate or accept Qing when I was a kid. I wasn't self-assured enough to look the challenges in the eye and stand my ground. And by the time I was, I was already Alicia.
It's worth noting that I never changed my name legally, so I still put "Qing" down on all my legal forms, and I even use it informally as my middle name. These days I'm a lot less irritated when someone mispronounces it because now I understand that, hey, it's a tough name to pronounce! Hell, I may even empathize.
Once in a while I'll feel bittersweet about the decision I made so many years ago, but does that mean I regret it? Not at all. Sure, I'll never know what type of woman I could have become if I had been Qing my whole life, but I know the woman I did become, and she's not too far from the one my namesake portrayed and inspired me to be. I guess it must be an Alicia thing.
Here's How I Gained the Exact Recommended Weight For Pregnancy
Throughout my career in fitness and wellness, I've worked hard to stay within the same, healthy 3-5 pound weight range for the majority of my adult life. It's not always easy, but I teach exercise classes, prepare and eat most of my meals at home, and work very hard at living an active and balanced lifestyle. When I first found out I was pregnant, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little scared about the physical changes I knew would come along with it.
Now I'm approaching the end of my pregnancy (only a couple days to go), and when I step on the scale, I've gained exactly the recommended 25 pounds (my doctors and midwives gave me a goal of gaining 25-35 pounds throughout the pregnancy). I knew I wanted to stay in that range, as I've seen and heard the health risks of gaining too much gestational weight, including gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia, back pain, pelvic pain, and a higher risk of C-section. For me, the key to keeping my weight gain in check was holding myself to the same standards during pregnancy that I've been holding myself to my entire life, and following the six steps I've outlined below.

Here's Who's Playing the Adult Versions of Your Favorite Characters in It: Chapter 2
It's been a while since the It sequel was confirmed (and titled It: Chapter Two), and there are a lot of things to figure out before the next part of the story comes to life.
Sure, we were all wondering when it would eventually hit theaters and what the plot would be, but die-hard fans of the novel know that there's one piece of business that needs to be attended to first: the cast. As we move forward, the most important detail is a huge time jump; we're going to leap forward 27 years, when Pennywise returns and all the "Losers" have grown up and moved away (except for Mike Hanlon, who stays behind as a librarian in Derry).
With such a big temporal leap, we were always going to need adult counterparts for each of the seven kids we meet in the first film. We even had some pretty strong opinions about casting, but obviously, Hollywood seems determined to pave its own way. It's fine. Check out who's in so far!
Anthony Bourdain Posthumously Wins 6 Emmy Awards - Including the 1 He Always Coveted
On Sept. 9, three months after his death, the Television Academy honored Anthony Bourdain with multiple wins at the 2018 Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The late chef and his CNN show, Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, were nominated in six categories and won in five. The series picked up three trophies for picture editing, sound editing, and sound mixing. Bourdain himself won two individual awards, one for best informational series and the other for writing for a nonfiction program.
In addition to those wins, Bourdain also received an Emmy for best nonfiction short or reality for Parts Unknown's digital webseries spinoff, Anthony Bourdain: Explore Parts Unknown. The late TV host had previously won four Emmys, the most recent of which was for the best informational series or special in 2016.
According to HuffPost, Lydia Tenaglia - Bourdain's longtime collaborator and an executive producer of Parts Unknown - accepted the nonfiction writing Emmy on his behalf and referenced the eight previous nominations Bourdain received for writing. "Tony was nominated for this Emmy many times. It was the one award he secretly coveted but it had always eluded him," she noted. "So it's with a sense of bittersweetness that I accept it tonight on his behalf."
"Tony is truly off on a trip to parts unknown now. I wish we could be there to shoot it," she added. "I'm sure he would have written the hell out of that episode."
The 12th and final season of Parts Unknown will air in seven episodes this Fall on CNN. Though initially scheduled to be removed from Netflix on June 16, all eight of its previous seasons are still available to watch "for months to come."

Women Want to Rename C-Sections - and the New Name They've Chosen Might Just Reverse the Stigma
You didn't actually give birth. You took the easy way out. You failed as a mother.
Those are just a few of the phrases women who've undergone cesarian section deliveries have had to endure, often by complete strangers on the internet. It's no surprise, then, that many new moms feel immense shame, regret, and guilt if they end up having to go this route during childbirth. The stigma, like the scar on their midsection, might lessen over time, but it never seems to go away.
"A C-section was the last thing that I wanted," Jordan Grissom told POPSUGAR.
Jordan, who works as a health coach in California, had researched "so many things" during her pregnancy, but she never allowed herself to look into "getting my stomach cut open" - it just wasn't an option. But, like many births, hers was unpredictable. She was induced a week after her due date, and when a midwife checked her progression, she found that Jordan was 9.5 centimeters dilated . . . and the baby was breech. They told her she'd need an emergency C-section.
"It reminds everyone that a birth did indeed happen, not just a surgery."
"I was petrified - I immediately went into a tailspin," she recalled. So did her body. Although an ultrasound quickly confirmed that her baby was not, in fact, breech, she regressed back to only six centimeters. Her birth team believed that once she heard the word C-section, "my cervix literally shut itself down out of fear."
Because she also was developing a fever, they decided to proceed with the C-section. Jordan was devastated, and it was then that her doula, Flor Cruz, approached. "She began to comfort me by explaining that although this wasn't what I wanted, I was still going to be birthing a beautiful baby girl. I was just going to be having a belly birth rather than a vaginal birth."
And with that, a new, empowering term stuck in Jordan's head.
"A belly birth is exactly what a C-section is," she said. "You're birthing your child through your belly, and it's just as significant as a vaginal birth." Plus, she said, it "sounds less procedural," which "pushes the point that we too have given birth."
Although it was a novel concept to Jordan, Flor had been using the phrase with her patients for years and even helped her to come to terms with her own birth struggles.
Flor decided to become a doula after her first birth, a vaginal delivery that left her feeling like she had no control and had buckled at the pressure of hospital staff. "The day I gave birth was the day I learned that my birth wasn't mine," she told POPSUGAR. Then, with her second, she had a C-section. "I felt so powerless," she said. "I didn't feel like I was at a birth. I felt like I was just waiting for someone to pull my baby out of me." Her third birth, however, changed her forever. She was able to have a successful VBAC, a vaginal delivery following a C-section, and finally felt as though she'd had a choice.
"I felt this huge urge to find empowerment for all births," she said. During her research, she stumbled upon the term belly birth, and "a lightbulb turned on." She explained:
"We already know that words are powerful - our language and how we use it. Change the language, change the mindset. Change the mindset, and it changes the experience like a chain reaction. I started incorporating the term as much as I could. I realized that using the term religiously was a good place to start changing the views on belly births. We connect more to the surgery aspect when we say cesarean or C-section. We are describing the act of major abdominal surgery. We don't necessarily highlight and celebrate the bringing forth of life. The joy of a child being born. Parents being born. It's far more inclusive. It reminds everyone that a birth did indeed happen, not just a surgery."
Not only does the term provide families with a positive way to speak of their births and thus serves as a step in the healing process, but it's also a term with no negative stigma surrounding it. "It provides a way to connect to the birth on a deeper level," she said.
"Many women end up feeling as though they've failed by having a C-section, and that's just not the case. Belly birth is birth."
Flor told POPSUGAR that the term has also opened the door to other meaningful conversations. Clients realize that they have a choice in how they speak about a cesarean. "And if they have a choice in that, what else do they have a choice in?" Flor said. "It prompts them to ask more questions, do more research, and make their own informed decisions. It preps them to be in the driver's seat in the event of a belly birth."
Jordan couldn't agree more.
"There are some people who see C-sections as an easy way out," she said. "I'm not sure why, it was certainly not easy - physically or mentally. Like myself, many women are not prepared for the procedural side of a C-section. The bright lights, the medical jargon, the lack of intimacy. Many women end up feeling as though they've failed by having a C-section, and that's just not the case. Belly birth is birth."

Rodarte Recreated Josie's Prom Dress From Never Been Kissed, and It's Sublime
After sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the duo behind Rodarte, took a two-year break from New York Fashion Week, they returned to the runway with the colorful, whimsical dresses they're known for. Multi-layer lace, striped crochet midis, ruffles, and tulle were in abundance - all qualities of red carpet creations we're bound to see on the likes of Elle Fanning and Kirsten Dunst. But a certain '80s aesthetic was palpable, with strong shoulders coming through and a couple of lamé gowns made to flash, not shine.
One stuck out like a sore thumb: this magenta design that immediately reminded us of Josie Geller's prom dress in Never Been Kissed, circa 1999. While you might recall that Josie got stood up wearing her high-shine look with poufy sleeves, we have to wonder if there's something about this nostalgic style that will resonate with women today, who don't really care about fitting in when it comes to fashion and self-expression.
Lately, our clear reach for outfits from decades past knows no limits. Whatever you like - whether it's from the '70s, '80s, '90s, you name it - is frankly just cool, even if it is maybe a little over-the-top. So listen to Rob, Josie. Your prom dress rocks, and you're not "Josie Grossie" anymore.
The Surprising Inspiration Behind Henry Golding's Character in A Simple Favor
The past few years have been a whirlwind for Henry Golding, and luckily for all of us, he doesn't plan on slowing down anytime soon.
The 31-year-old British–Malaysian actor first got his start on screen as a travel host on BBC's The Travel Show in 2014, and has quickly transformed himself into one of Hollywood's hottest up-and-coming actors. After stealing our hearts with his role as Nick Young in Jon M. Chu's blockbuster rom-com Crazy Rich Asians this Summer, Golding is stepping into a much darker role in the upcoming thriller A Simple Favor, alongside Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick.
"It's such a different take of characters that I've played," Golding told POPSUGAR about his role in the film. "Sean is this much darker, mysterious, unsuspecting character. You don't know where he sits." Even though Sean is a far cry from the romantic Nick Young, Golding still finds a way to make the character charming with his natural charisma. In fact, director Paul Feig actually advised Golding to model his character after Cary Grant's character in Suspicion, Johnnie Aysgarth. "That's the frame of mind going into this character that I needed to have," Golding explained. "And I think it definitely works. It takes you on this unsuspecting sort of journey with Sean, and the audience really don't know who he is."

While Sean is dark and mysterious in his own right, Lively and Kendrick's characters are just as twisted. "It was amazing," Golding said about working with the pair. "If you could dream up two female leads in this universe, they're very close to the top of the list." Though the three characters have a complicated relationship in the film, Golding admitted it was a thrill filming those intense scenes. "Especially scenes where the proximity is so close - there's no one else in the room, apart from us three. There are no extras. It's in a home, in a room with myself, Anna, and Blake for the entire day. It's just a joy. And it's such a different way of acting; it's laser-focused."
In his short career, Golding has already starred alongside some talented actors, but he really looks up to the directors he's worked with. "[Some of my biggest inspirations are] directors that really pushed the boundaries of film," Golding said. "People that go out on a limb to stand out and try to bring something new to the table. Same goes with Paul Feig in [A Simple Favor], giving his spin on a genre that he's not known for. For Jon [M. Chu], putting out the weight of Asians around the world on his shoulders and killing it. Those are the types of directors I want to work with, people who stand within the arena; in the blood and in the sand, fighting their hardest to do good."

While Golding has been thrust into the spotlight over the past few months, he's trying to stay grounded despite his newfound stardom. "I think I'm level-headed enough to understand that it's hard work that really pays off, and I think the understanding of these opportunities come far and few between, so take advantage of them; work your hardest," he said. "That's what we've been doing for the past sort of year-and-a-half. But for me, it's really the joy in creating what I have loved my entire life, and that's great movies. I love cinema altogether. So for me, it's the greatest dream."
"It's so inspiring getting these stories from everybody of how it affects them, and how they intend to help share the love."
Of course, one of the most rewarding parts about his success, specifically with Crazy Rich Asians, has been seeing the fan response. "It's been a very vocal crowd," he explained. "They're like, 'This is the first time that I've cried in the cinema, not because of the story, but because of what I see on screen and what it means to that person.' It's so inspiring getting these stories from everybody of how it affects them, and how they intend to help share the love."
So, what does Golding have in store next? While he admitted that sci-fi is his "dream genre," what it truly comes down to is finding scripts that speak to him. "It doesn't matter which genre it falls in. If it's a movie that I would want to watch, that's something that I want to be a part of," he said. "Just doing justice to great material is what I'm meant for."
This Classic Detroit Wedding Displays the True Beauty of the City
Newlyweds Sarah and Andrew "are just really frickin' cool people," raved Erin of E Schmidt Photography. The photographer said she loved working with them on their big day in Detroit.
"I felt like I've known them forever," she said. "Not to mention, they are so in love. One part of their day that I particularly loved was that morning, they woke up early and met for coffee before all of the crazy wedding stuff started. Like I said, they are so in love. Like deep-rooted, knock-you-on-your-butt love."
The sweet couple gave each other letters that same morning and wrote their own vows, which blew Erin away.
"They laughed, they danced, they took pictures outside (props to them - it was PRETTY frosty out there and they don't look cold in a single shot!), and had the beautiful wedding they imagined," she said. "Sarah and Andrew - I love your love. It's beautiful and inspiring and I'm so thankful I got to not only photograph your day, but also get to know how rad you are."
Sarah's favorite memory of the day? Everything.
"But if I have to pick one thing, it would be Andrew's vows," Sarah said. Andrew's favorite memory was getting coffee with his beloved early in the morning before the beautiful chaos ensued.
The couple has a few words of wisdom for engaged couples: "Make time for each other during the wedding process, and remember why you're doing all of this in the first place."

30 Vibrant Photos That Will Inspire You to Take a Trip to Morocco
If you've never considered traveling to Morocco, this photographer's adventures will convince you otherwise. Raisa Zwart visited the North African country for a November wedding and captured her short trip. Before heading to Ourika, she spent a day and a half in Marrakech, which she described as "a place of contradictions: the crowded medina, the somewhat pushy guides, but also beautiful scenery, fairy-tale like alleys, and amazing food," and added, "The colors and light there are just stunning."
Raisa wandered around the medina of Marrakech - a medina is a historic quarter of a town - without any guides or direction. "It's also so much fun to just see what happens and where you'll end up," she said.
The beautiful palaces in Marrakech are a must see, specifically Palais Badii and Palais Bahia. In contrast to the older part of Marrakech, the city includes modern sections that have a distinctly different feel - both of which are worth the visit. She also suggests checking out Ourika, which is very close to Marrakech and lies within the Atlas Mountain range. "I would highly recommend combining a visit to Marrakech with one to Ourika - it's so beautiful and provides a nice, more quiet getaway from the city."
To make the most of your Moroccan experience, Raisa says to stay at a riad - "These traditional B&B-like places are like quiet oases in the Medina" - and to try the delicious North African dish tajine and to visit botanical garden Jardin Majorelle.

Here's What to Ask If You're Wondering If You'll Be Compatible or Not
If you're starting a new relationship, you might wonder if you'll end up being compatible or not. Of course, you don't want to waste each other's time, so it's a good idea to figure things out ASAP, in a casual way. You might not experience all of these issues early on, which can cause you to strengthen the relationship on the surface level, but as you do start to have the "big talk" and open up discussion for serious matters that could affect the long term, you'll begin to determine whether or not this relationship has real potential for lasting success. Hopefully, it does! Here are a few subject matters that can cause controversy in a relationship - as in, if you don't agree, it could cause obstacles moving forward.

Bella Hadid Just Gave a Sexy Spin to 1 of Meghan Markle's Go-To Outfits
Bella Hadid might be busy going from runway to runway at New York Fashion Week, but that doesn't mean the 21-year-old model has stopped serving us some major street style inspiration. As she made her way to the Anna Sui show, Bella was photographed wearing a gray blazer by Fendi, which she cinched in at the waist. Paired with only a t-shirt, sheer black tights, Oxford heels, and accessories including a black hat, a shoulder bag, and socks, it was an incredibly sexy look - and we can't help but think that it was inspired by none other than Meghan Markle.
Just a few weeks ago, the Duchess of Sussex stepped out in London to attend a special fundraising performance of the musical Hamilton. For the occasion, she wore a stem-flaunting tuxedo minidress by Judith and Charles, which was both elegant and sultry. Paired with classic Paul Andrew pumps and a chic minaudière, it was a good reminder that Meghan is a natural on the red carpet.
Of course, while both looks were based around the same piece, Bella and Meghan adapted it to their own aesthetic, giving two very different feels to two very similar ensembles. Ahead, get a closer look at how the duchess and the model styled their outfits, and then shop Bella's exact blazer for yourself, as well as similar options.
Gigi Hadid Just Rewore the First Ever Outfit She Modeled For Tommy Hilfiger
On Monday night, Gigi Hadid and her family joined Tommy Hilfiger to celebrate the launch of the brand's collaboration with F1 driver Lewis Hamilton. Gigi, who's collaborated with Tommy many times over the past few years, wore a chic all-red outfit that had a seriously sentimental detail: the jacket was the first item Gigi ever modeled for the designer. Taking to Twitter, the model explained, "I got it out of storage for tonight!"
Back in February 2015, Gigi walked the runway for Tommy Hilfiger for the very first time, and the first look she sported from the Fall 2015 collection was an oversize red leather jacket with black and white trim on the sleeves and a football emblem embroidered on the chest. On the runway, Gigi wore it completely fastened, with black tights and lace-up boots. Three years later, she took it out of retirement, but she sexed things up a little by wearing the jacket open and slouched down, over a look that featured a sheer blouse, a crop top, high-waisted pants with sheer overlays, and calf-length boots. Take a look at both outfits ahead, as we look back at Gigi's first Tommy moment, and enjoy her most recent too.

A Trainer Shares a 5-Minute, Kickass Ab-Toning Workout You Can Do Anywhere
Let's be completely honest: sometimes your ab routines can become extremely stale and boring. In my opinion, if your workout is boring - and you're dreading it before you begin - the more likely you are to half-ass it or just skip it entirely. I don't like either option.
To prevent just going through the motions or skipping workouts altogether, I created the following five-minute ab workout. In five minutes, you'll strengthen and tone your transverse abdominis (your deep core muscles), your obliques, and your rectus abdominis; working all the layers of your abs is essential to sculpting a six-pack (and don't forget having a clean diet).
The Workout
- This workout should be performed as a circuit; complete 30 seconds of each exercise, then quickly transition to the following exercise. You should aim to take as little rest as possible in between exercises.
- Once you've completed the fifth and last exercise, rest for 60 seconds, then repeat the circuit for one more round.
- Do this workout two to three times a week.

Getting Rid of Belly Fat Is Harder Than You Think - Here's How to Do It
I have this fantasy where I eat pizza and Salt & Straw Chocolate Gooey Brownie for every meal but also have abs. I'm not talking, like, a six-pack, but just some nice abdominal definition. (You'd think I'd go all out since this is a fantasy version of myself, but IDK. I'm sure there's something to unpack there.)
While there are probably some people who actually can munch on pizza all the time and somehow manage to look like one of the Amazon warriors from Wonder Woman, that's just not the case for most of us. That's because belly fat is notoriously difficult to get rid of, and lower belly fat can be particularly frustrating. Sometimes I feel like no matter how clean I eat or how many crunches I do, that fat at the lower end of my abdomen just isn't going to go away. Like Winter in 2018 or millennial pink. Unfortunately, while there's no way to spot-reduce fat from certain areas, there are some diet and exercise changes you can make to help reduce fat overall.
I consulted Josh Gallegos, trainer to WWE superstars, and Whitney English, MS, RDN, CPT of Whitney E. RD. Here are their best tips for reducing lower belly fat. And no, crunches are not on the agenda.

There's no carb-cutting, fat-free/sugar-free snacking, or dessert-shirking involved. The steps here couldn't be easier to squeeze into your day, and they feel so good that you'll want to keep them up long after you've conquered the scale.
The Secret to Zoë Kravitz's Near-Perfect Skin Is $445
Everything about Zoë Kravitz can be boiled down, summed up, and expounded into one word: effortless.
It was this air of confidence, of certain nonchalance, that loomed in the room of the YSL Beauty Hotel in NYC, where she sat cross-legged on a big, red sofa in an understated white Saint Laurent t-shirt for our interview. "I don't really have any beauty regrets, no," she coyly told POPSUGAR, gently setting down her cup of tea.
Don't try too hard, let things go, give yourself time to process - this is what Kravitz lives by. Now, the free-spirited musician-slash-actress is sharing how she applies that mentality to her beauty regimen - which, ironically, does not come free after all.

Miss Michigan Perfectly Addressed the Flint Water Crisis During Her Miss America Intro
Though the lucky lady who took home the crown at the 2019 Miss America pageant on Sept. 9 was New York's Nia Franklin, there was one other contestant who made a major impact on the competition, and she did so in a matter of seconds. Emily Sioma, aka Miss Michigan, used her platform to briefly call attention to the water crisis that's been affecting her home state for four years. As she boldly stated during the first half of her introduction: "From the state with 84 percent of the United States' fresh water but none for its residents to drink, I am Miss Michigan, Emily Sioma."
Watch to see what Miss Michigan had to say about the water crisis in Flint, during her introduction. The people of Flint are still without clean water!#WaterIsLife pic.twitter.com/jq85jy3Fv8
â€" OverpassLightBrigade (@OLBLightBrigade) September 10, 2018
Sioma hails from Grass Lake, MI, but her comment was obviously a reference to the water crisis that's been plaguing Flint, a city that's just a two-hour drive away. Flint's water became contaminated after the city switched its main water source from the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department to the Flint River. By 2015, reports of lead poisoning from nearly 100,000 local residents - most of which are black and from low-income families - began to flood news cycles, and a number of public officials are now facing charges related to the issue. Though measures have been put in place to solve the problem, residents of the city are still heavily reliant on bottled water.
Sioma's journey ended when she didn't make it to the top 15, but many users on Twitter are still praising her for her statements. Read through a few of them below.
Why My Grandfather's Immigration Story Gives Me Hope
The times we are living in are like no other, and in the current political climate, it seems like Americans are disagreeing more than ever on all kinds of topics and values - particularly immigration.
Immigration can be a tricky subject to converse over. It's such a personal and emotional topic, and in these divisive times, it's often turned into something negative. I was born and raised in the United States, but my parents were not, so for me, the word has recently taken on a whole new meaning.
I had the pleasure of being back in my hometown of Houston, TX, for a few days, and I sat down with my Papa (my maternal grandfather) and my dad to chat with them about their experiences coming to the US from Pakistan many years ago. I was nervous asking them questions, and even more nervous about their answers, but in the end it turned out to be one of the best conversations I'd ever had. I thought their viewpoints might have changed due to all the recent controversy surrounding immigration, but both of them reminded me that while these conversations may bring up some unpleasant memories, they are important because they reinstate the idea of working toward a better future.
Papa in 1974 (Houston,TX)
When did you come to America for the first time? What was it like?
PAPA: I touched down in 1971 with a student visa and $200 in my pocket. I was young, naive, and I was terrified. I was leaving behind my home, my family - everything I knew and loved - to go to a place where I knew no one and nothing.
DAD: My experience was a little different. I had visited a few times before, but when I came to start a new life here in the early '80s, I was lucky enough to have my older brother here. He had gone to college in the states. He had a wife and family, so I felt more secure, less terrified when I got here. Nonetheless, I knew going forward my life was going to be completely different than it had been in the past. I was obviously nervous, but more importantly, I was ready.
Were you prepared for the culture shock you experienced? How did you cope? Did you feel like family culture in America is different than back home?
DAD: First, I have to say - of course there's a difference, but I hate saying it was a culture shock. People are people; everyone's got friends and family they love, everyone's got the one family member they wish they didn't, everyone's got the same bullsh*t. Even moving from Pakistan to Sugar Land, TX, I never felt like I was in a place where I didn't belong. There were just some obstacles to get through, and from the looks of it, I got through just fine.
PAPA: I agree with your dad for the most part; it's not so much a culture shock as it is an adjustment period, but that's what happens everywhere, isn't it? Didn't you feel like you had to adjust to New York when you left Houston? Like your dad said, people are people. I had friends back home I had less in common with than folks I met along the way here in America, and that's just a testament to humanity: you connect with humans.
Papa in 1982 (Houston, TX)
What was your reason for leaving your country? Did America meet your expectations? Has it been worth it and why? Would you make the same decision today?
PAPA: Everyone has different reasons. I left personally because I felt as if my children had a better shot here and collectively as a family we would have a better life here with access to more. America has exceeded my expectations. I'm not saying there haven't been hard times - of course there have been - but overall looking back almost 50 years I can't say I made the wrong decision by coming here. My kids have beautiful homes and lives here, my grandchildren have gotten live a life I could have only dreamed about living at their ages. I sacrificed a lot and I regret none of it. Would make the same decision today.
DAD: I personally felt as if I had no future there. My expectations coming here were that if I worked hard, I'd have a good life, and it's been worth it. Having a daughter, I know I made the right decision. I mean, don't get me wrong - you would do great things anywhere because I'm your dad [Author's note: OK, Dad] but in all seriousness - regardless of the climate of today, I do believe you have been able to achieve and live a life yourself that you may have not gotten to in Pakistan.
Of course times are different, now but if someone was immigrating today, what advice would you give to them?
DAD: This is very relative to a person's situation. Many people may want to come to this country not because they want to necessarily leave theirs, but because they might have to for reasons we may not understand. In all other cases, I would say leave your expectations at the door, understand that you are coming here for a new start, and embrace it. It's not about taking on a brand new culture as your own, it's about blending two things together. I never felt like I had to give up my culture to be an American. The best parts of this country are all the cultures that have come here and made it home and created communities together and helped each other out day and in day out. Remember Harvey? Temples, mosques, and churches were all shelters. No one cared about the bullsh*t. Just remember the basics, and everything else you learn as you go.

10 Myths About Men That Are So Wrong - Trust Me, I Should Know
Women are a mystery to men and, as such, men are a mystery to women. As a man myself, I have to admit I don't believe we're all that complicated, but I'm sure women would say the same.
To help better understand men, I've decided to do some myth busting on behalf of my gender, and through this article, I hope to clear up some things that decades of television and archetypes have falsely led society to believe are true about men. So instead of using anonymous surveys to determine what is or is not true about men, an actual man is going to clear up some things. So I'm going to do just that.
Ryan Reynolds Vows to Leave "Divorce Jokes" at Home After Sixth Anniversary With Blake Lively
It's date night for Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, and what better way to spend a romantic evening together than with a movie premiere? The night after celebrating their sixth wedding anniversary, the stunning couple stepped out on Sept. 10 for a showing of Blake's movie A Simple Favor at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and Ryan knew exactly what not to say.
Ryan's company, Aviation Gin, releases an automated out-of-office reply from his "personal" email account, and this week's included one special (and hilarious) note to his schedule: "MOMA event for A Simple Favor (No divorce jokes!!)." After false reports about the couple's marriage surfaced earlier this year, it's no wonder Ryan wants to poke a little fun, and these two are used to the back-and-forth banter.
This picture-perfect pair have become one of Hollywood's favorite couples since tying the knot back in 2012 and are now parents to two daughters: James and Ines. Whether it's a movie premiere or an event for Aviation Gin, this duo nearly always shows up side by side. We love a supportive couple!
Noah Centineo Explains How He Got His Scar in a Pretty Ironic Way
If you think you're weird for noticing (and wondering about) the scar on the left side of Noah Centineo's face, don't worry - you're not the only one. Thankfully, the star of Netflix's To All the Boys I've Loved Before and Sierra Burgess Is a Loser finally explained the minor mark on his face in an adorable Buzzfeed video of him answering questions while playing with puppies.
When asked how he got the scar, he reveals, "I got attacked by a dog." He then bursts into laughter at the irony of him playing with puppies while talking about the incident. "I got attacked when I was 6 years old by a Mastiff," he says. "He ripped a hole in my face, so you could see my teeth, my gums, and all the way through my tongue to the other side. There was a massive, gaping hole." Yikes.
But even at the tender age of 6, Noah was understanding and compassionate. "The dog didn't know what it was doing," he continues. "I specifically remember him lunging, being pulled away from him, and then looking back and seeing him cock his head like he didn't really understand what happened. Some people were like, 'Do you wanna put the dog down?' I was crying, like, 'No, he didn't mean to do it!'" His parents ended up getting a different dog - a black lab/German Shepherd/Rottweiler mix - named Mackenzie six weeks after Noah was attacked, and all was well.
Is it too extra of me to want Noah to be the lead in a Dr. Doolittle remake now? Probably.
A New Law & Order Series Is Coming - and Yes, Olivia Benson Will Make an Appearance
A timely series is settling into the Law & Order universe. NBC just announced the addition of Law & Order: Hate Crimes from the franchise's creator Dick Wolf and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit showrunner Warren Leight - and you better believe there will be plenty of crossover between the two.
The new series will center on the New York Police Department's Hate Crimes Task Force, which operates under the Special Victims Unit to fight prejudice-driven threats, harassment, and discrimination of any kind. Being that both units work so closely together, plenty of SVU detectives, like our beloved Olivia Benson, will be making appearances. In fact, Hate Crimes will be introduced during an episode in SVU's 20th season - yes, 20th.
"Twenty years ago when SVU began, very few people felt comfortable coming forward and reporting these crimes, but when you bring the stories into people's living rooms - with characters as empathetic as Olivia Benson - a real dialogue can begin," Wolf said in a press statement. "That's what I hope we can do with this new show in a world where hate crimes have reached an egregious level."
The debut season of Hate Crimes will consist of 13 episodes, and will likely premiere sometime in early 2019.

Queer Eye's Jonathan Van Ness Expertly Claps Back at an Instagram Comment About His Emmys Look
Here's a lesson everyone needs to learn right now: you can't out-sass Queer Eye's Jonathan Van Ness. Unfortunately, someone didn't quite get that memo and tried to come for Jonathan after the bubbly hairstylist and TV personality shared a fabulous photo of him attending the Creative Arts Emmys in LA on Sunday with his boyfriend, Wilco Froneman. Jonathan rocked a sheer black top with a textured skirt and boots, and the general consensus in the comments section was that he owned the red carpet. But one user commented, "The guy in the dress looks like the villain in Despicable Me 3." Jonathan, being the unbothered ray of sunshine he is, had the best response: "I look f*cking stunning and my name is Jonathan, snap chat [sic] filter using on your insta tiny circle private profile having self." Bloop. Game over.
It looked like Jonathan and his fellow Queer Eye castmates were living their best lives at the event, and it certainly helped that Queer Eye won the Emmy for best structured reality program. So it's pretty safe to say that any negative comments hardly ruined Jonathan's time. View photos of the cast living it up on the red carpet ahead.

We Have Good News and Bad News About A Star Is Born's Soundtrack
On Aug. 30, Lady Gaga made an announcement that both delighted and disappointed us. When it comes to the fourth remake of the classic Hollywood tale A Star Is Born, we have official confirmation that there will be a soundtrack full of blissful bops. Given the fact that Gaga belts it out in the trailer, we're not surprised. The album is replete with an electrifying 34 tracks to accompany the release of the movie, and there's even a full tracklist to get you all amped up.
So what, you may ask, is the bad news? Unfortunately, we won't get to hear any of the music prior to the Oct. 5 release, as the soundtrack is set to drop on the same day. Then again, maybe it's a blessing; we can experience the magic of the music while we witness the moment on screen. If you like, you can preorder the soundtrack through whatever music service you use.
