How 2 Parents Created a Dream Career For Their Son With Autism: "We Had to Think Outside the Box"
Granologist Donna and Dr. Lisa Liberatore.
Luv Michael was a dream that derived from two things: food and love. When Dr. Lisa Liberatore and Dr. Dimitri Kessaris's son Michael, who was diagnosed with autism at age 2, was growing up, they feared he wouldn't be able to have a career that personally and professionally fulfilled him. "[When Michael was in school], I realized that he would be graduating in just four short years," Lisa told POPSUGAR. "I knew we needed to think outside the box [when it came to finding him] meaningful employment." Instead of putting Michael in a job he may not like, Lisa and Dimitri let his passion for cooking lead the way. But because local culinary schools weren't equipped to train someone with autism, she and her husband came up with the idea for Luv Michael.
Luv Michael, which is based in Long Island City, is a food-based company that produces homemade, organic granola. In addition to Michael, the company employs other young adults with autism, offering them culinary, sales, customer service, and life skills training. Their team, whom they've dubbed "granologists," produces 120 pounds of granola each week for local grocery stores and food chains like Fresh&co and also for major companies like Starbucks and JetBlue. And they're just getting started. "Great things can happen when you give something and someone a chance," Lisa explained. To learn more about the amazing company and the strides it's making in disability employment, keep reading.
POPSUGAR: Where did the idea for Luv Michael come from?
Lisa Liberatore: When Michael was 17, I realized that he would be graduating from his school in only four years and there was little being done to give him meaningful employment. Since he showed interest and ability while cooking at home and at church, we thought why not help him learn to be a prep chef. I quickly saw that we needed to think outside the box since traditional culinary schools were not equipped to teach someone with autism. We started in our home and then created the idea of a home business. Granola was chosen since its recipe didn't include using knives, and I wanted to have an ability to include his other friends with autism.
The name Luv Michael references giving a present to someone else, and that's something that needs to be taught to someone with autism, i.e. thinking about others and their feelings.
PS: What was the biggest obstacle in getting it off the ground and getting people to really listen?
LL: The biggest obstacle was having enough time and money while also having a full-time medical practice and raising a son with autism. My husband and I needed to work to help pay for a startup venture, but I also needed to be the one to create this project since I have both the passion and the idea for how to do it differently than other businesses, and I understand autism having raised my son for over 20 years now.
Anyone I present the idea of Luv Michael to gets what it is right away and how wonderful the mission is, but what they don't realize is how much a project like this costs to run, but more importantly, to sustain. Businesses may want to help, but most are interested in the bottom line and profits. We're doing everything that traditional businesses don't, and we also need more support staff and a special education teacher on staff to achieve our goals.
PS: What has the response been like from your employees and their families?
LL: We started with just Michael, my nephew Christian, and another young man who graduated from the same school as Michael, but very quickly parents started to search for opportunities for their young adult children and saw what Luv Michael was trying to do. We give tours to interested parents and their child every week and see the tears in their eyes when they experience firsthand what we're doing and achieving. The employees, who we call "granologists," are hired after a few weeks of a working interview, and that's always an exciting, goosebumps type of day!
PS: How do you make sure your work environment is inclusive for people with disabilities?
LL: We found that our employees do better in a very structured environment with a lot of visuals and clear direction. We understand their challenges and focus on teaching skills to reduce anxiety and help them focus. There's a spirit of love, understanding, and patience, which everyone at Luv Michael brings to their work.
PS: What is the hiring process like?
LL: First, the interested person takes a tour and spends the day with us. If they like the experience, which so far everyone has, we offer them a volunteer position, which is like a working interview. Over the next several weeks, we both see if it's a good fit. Then one of the granologists presents a chef uniform and a job offer to the unsuspecting volunteer. We also let their parents know so they can witness the special day.
PS: How big of a role does teamwork play in your employees' day-to-day?
LL: We have a small, dedicated team that goes above and beyond each day to think about how to make the work place better, more stimulating, and rewarding for our employees.
PS: What different career growth opportunities do you offer your employees?
LL: Our granologists learn so many skills that we organized it into a five-prong curriculum, including food safety and science, communication and sales, IT and software skills, wellness and soft job skills, and creative arts. Our granologists can work towards passing the NY state food handlers license or become managers with increased pay. They may also transition to other job sites utilizing the skills derived from their Luv Michael employment.
PS: What would you say to other employers who aren't sure about hiring someone with a disability?
LL: Our employees are so dedicated and come to work on time and prepared to work with their uniform pressed and ready. They're proud of having the job and getting paid. They're never distracted by their cell phones at work. They show initiative all the time. For example, one of our granologists, Obi, did a trial run taking the train on his day off to make sure he would be on time for his shift the following day!
PS: How do you think different workforces can be more inclusive when it comes to hiring people with disabilities?
LL: If a business wants to hire someone with a disability, it's important to know what the challenges of that disability are to be able to support it. In the case of autism, it means giving employees clear visual schedules and direction. We also recognize there can be sensitivity to certain sounds and light, which needs attention. It also helps for the employee with a disability to have a peer mentor, preferably someone within the organization.
People with autism are very attentive to details and correctness, and many have incredible endurance as well as artistic talents. They can really thrive in so many areas beside the culinary field, such as woodworking and restoration, other fine arts fields, gardening and landscaping, IT and data work, and even dog walking!
PS: What do you feel is a common misconception people may have about people with disabilities? What do you want to say to people with those misconceptions?
LL: Many people think that people with disabilities can't work or don't care about working, and that is very untrue. Our granologists care about getting a paycheck and their job. They are productive and bring joy to those around them. Many people with disabilities have talent and just need a chance. The right job may take trying some things out to see what works best for that individual.
PS: What's one moment that really stands out to you that proved you're really changing the world for these individuals?
LL: The moment that hit me hardest was recently receiving letters from the parents of our granologists telling me how Luv Michael has changed their lives. I cried while reading them.
PS: What do you want other individuals with disabilities to know about following their dreams?
LL: Individuals with disabilities should ask those around them to help find opportunities like Luv Michael to discover what makes them happy at work. Great things can happen when you give something and someone a chance. You may never know what you're really good at or passionate about until you try!
PS: What advice do you have for other parents who aren't sure where to start when it comes to making sure their kids can have independent lives and fulfilling careers?
LL: Various agencies will allow a child to try different jobs to see what fits best for them. If they're in New York, feel free to contact us at info@Luv Michael.org to see about coming for a day tour. Our plan is to create a replicable model by Fall 2019, and thereby allow other families to have a Luv Michael in their town.
PS: What is your favorite part about your job?
LL: I love seeing a new person getting hired. That is an incredible day for everyone. I also love creating new opportunities within our business as a response to what will make our granologists even more successful and feel rewarded by their job.
I've Spent Days Searching For Kate Middleton's Perfect Fall Dress, and Whoomp, There It Is!
Kate Middleton stepped out for her third official appearance since her maternity leave, and hot damn, she's got a new wardrobe. Just as we suspected, Kate's made it a point to up her style game. After debuting a trendy lavender bag one day prior, Kate worked this plaid Erdem dress with an asymmetrical neckline, pulled off the shoulder on one side and adorned with floral brooches on the other, which did indeed draw attention to her stunning chandelier earrings ($1,220), also by Erdem. A strategic fashion move, no?
As Duchess Kate visited the Victoria & Albert Museum, where she opened the new Photography Centre, she modeled her midi from all angles. There was a lot to see, after all - from the distressed tweed finish to the design's gemstone and pearl buttons, and of course, the cranberry sash, perfectly matching Kate's velvet pumps. If the whole look doesn't just make you utter "Ooh la la!" consider this: Kate might have taken a tip from Meghan Markle when it comes to this ensemble.
Meghan's memorable Theory blazer, which she wore on a visit to Cardiff Castle with Prince Harry, came in a similar colorway and was alike in cut, modestly drawing attention upward. Whether or not Kate did, in fact, admire how successfully Meghan pulled off this silhouette, we are so drawn to her sophisticated new number, we're shopping for one just like it after the jump.

For the star-studded event, Priyanka wore a gorgeous custom slip dress by Giorgio Armani, which she teamed with simple Tiffany & Co. jewels and lucite sandals that would have made Cinderella jealous. Bella Hadid's B-Day Top Is So Sexy, We Don't Blame The Weeknd For the Impromptu Smooch
Bella Hadid celebrated her 22nd birthday in NYC with good friends and her on-again boyfriend, The Weeknd. Before the evening party, Bella enjoyed a casual brunch at Sadelle's, and she coordinated with her boo for the occasion. The stars wore black jackets - Bella's a cropped tuxedo style - and dark denim, also both sporting Gigi Hadid x Vogue Eyewear (Shop Bella's pair here and The Weeknd's here). And While The Weeknd opted for combat boots, Bella slipped into Nicole Saldana shoes ($470) with a chunky sole.
But there's no better way to attract the spotlight on your special day than with a sexy lace-up top, and Bella's obviously well aware. Her ruched tank from Unravel had just enough sex appeal to make them look twice, and it so obviously made The Weeknd feel romantic too. 28 Outfit Ideas That'll Make You Believe Midi Dresses Are a Fall Staple
It's a common misconception that you can't wear a dress once Summer is over. A midi dress is one of the most versatile pieces you can wear in the Fall because of its hemline, which usually hits halfway between the knee and ankle. The length makes it a great pick for the transitional season.
Midis are easy to wear at your 9-to-5, for parties with your friends, and on date night. But coming up with inventive outfit ideas can feel tiring and overwhelming, especially when you're just working with one piece. For this reason, we're showing you 28 fresh ways to style your midi dress this Fall. Read on to take a look, and shop some pieces for your rotation ahead.
If You Only Buy 1 Sweater This Season, It Should Look Like This

The possibilities are endless, as are the silhouettes; right now, we're loving cardigans and turtlenecks. If you're looking for your next Fall sweater, we've got you covered.

Blake Lively Wore Reflective Chanel Sunglasses at Disney and Put My Ariel Crown to Shame
Grrrr. Blake Lively just outdid all of my best Disney looks, and I can't compete. How could I possibly? The actress spent time at Disneyland Paris hanging out with Mickey. Did she have decorative ears? Check. Minnie's pink glitter pair, I might add. Did she score points with the mouse himself while posing in front of the castle? Uh-huh. And then Blake did the unthinkable: she got someone to take a photo of her, staring up at Sleeping Beauty's humble abode from reflective Chanel sunglasses. They were round, fabulous, and trimmed with sugar pink crystals that looked like candy! "When you wear two giant mirrors on your eyeballs and happen to look at real life MAGIC," she wrote on Instagram.
Sure, I bring sunglasses to Disney, but they're usually plastic and get stowed away in my fanny pack. They don't do the castle justice when I look up at it. Not to mention, Blake is a fashion girl. My guess is that she consciously wore an iconic French brand at an iconic Parisian location. Karl Lagerfeld would be proud. I'm proud, and I don't even know Blake. What I do know is that I already have an Ariel crown I wear, without fail, every time I step onto Disney property - and it'd look really cool with a shiny new accessory like sunglasses. In fact, Blake's Chanel lenses even remind me of pearls, speaking to my mermaid spirit. I might not be able to re-create such an enchanting moment, but I'm about to buy similarly whimsical shades for my next walk down Main Street. Merci, Blake, merci.

Priyanka Chopra Looked Red Hot in This Monochromatic Outfit, but Her Leather Skirt Stole the Show
Priyanka Chopra's most recent outing in New York City just adds to the mounting pile of evidence that she doesn't have to work very hard to make jaws drop. The Quantico actress stepped out on the streets of Manhattan ahead of her appearance at Tuesday night's Tiffany & Co. Blue Book Collection event wearing a fiery red outfit that could literally stop traffic - especially that wrap skirt.
Priyanka wore a tight-fit, wine-colored leather pencil skirt from Akris ($2,390) that currently has me wondering why I haven't already added a similar style to my Fall wardrobe. She accessorized with a silk blouse, a shiny red handbag, and a pair of snakeskin crisscross pumps. Scroll ahead to see more pics of the bride-to-be's outfit, and to shop similar styles.

These are perfect for anyone who isn't looking to break the bank or only buy a costume they can wear for one day. The Kohl's pieces are an easy fit in any wardrobe, and you only need a few extra additions to take home the title of "best costume" this Halloween.

These Are the Comfiest Skinny Jeans I Have Ever Owned - and They're Only $46
Let's be real: jeans are never anyone's first choice when comfort is the goal. Denim can often be restraining and stiff. I totally changed my mind as soon as I slipped into these Topshop Leigh Jeans ($46). They're as comfy as leggings - no kidding. The material is soft and stretchy, yet it doesn't bag out. You could easily sit cross-legged on the floor in these pants without any irritation - that's the ultimate test.
I first purchased these jeans in black, but I loved them so much, I went back and got the classic blue pair too. They look great with a t-shirt on the weekends but equally as cute with a blazer when I'm headed to the office. They're my year-round staple. Treat yourself to a fresh pair for Fall; your wardrobe deserves it.
Princess Eugenie Wears These Fashion Brands So Much, They Just May Pop Up at Her Wedding
There's a whole roster of designers rumored to be creating Princess Eugenie's wedding gown, but we've curated a list of the brands she wears most often. There are a few contemporary labels, like Whistles and Alice + Olivia, that Princess Eugenie shops for daytime dresses, and when it comes to wardrobe staples (think blazers and pumps), she clearly has her eyes peeled for anything Zara. While she is definitely the type of royal to repeat a favorite design and has done so on numerous occasions, these are the fashion houses Eugenie is so obviously excited about collecting from. In other words, she owns multiple pieces and she wears them proudly!
The Philogynist Pledge - 10 Ways Men Can Support the Women's Movement
The following post was originally published on Medium.
I believe that in order for the women's movement to be effective, a corollary men's movement must be present. I take this pledge as a way to state my conscious support in moving forward to change a broken system.
1. I Will Lead by Example in the Way I Talk About Women
I know that my children and friends pick up on the generalizations I make about women, whether positive or negative. Intentionally or not, I shape their identity about what it is to be a woman, and how to expect to be treated for being one.
2. I Will Not Accept Traditional Role Models
I believe that a true partnership between the sexes demands a different concept of marriage, an equitable sharing of the responsibilities of home and children, and economic support of the family.
3. I Will Raise My Children to Believe in Gender Equality
I will encourage children to embrace their individual interests and passions, regardless of their gender. The things they can't do will become obvious on their own, and the rest will become possible if they are allowed to dream and have role models.
4. I Will Not Stand For Violence Against a Woman
If a relative, friend, classmate, or teammate is abusive to women, I will not look the other way. I will try to talk to him about it, urge him to seek help, or consult a friend, a parent, or counselor.
5. I Will Mentor Women and Offer Equal Access
If I am in a position to help, I will find at least one woman (and ideally, several) to mentor. Give her thoughtful input on how she can advance and put her name forward for challenging assignments and promotions.
6. I Will Call Out Qualities Other Than Physical Beauty
I will remind her that it is not only appearance that matters. I will focus on positive things about women without pedastalizing. I won't pretend that her looks will never matter, but I will encourage her not to judge herself or let herself be judged only on looks.
7. I Will Make Sure There Is Always Clear Consent
I will be aware of the implicit power dynamic that are often present in sexual relationships between men and women. I am aware that consent is clear, unambiguous, and involves the word yes. It is not the absence of a no.
8. I Will Not Support Politicians Who Marginalize Women
I will not support politicians at any level of government who betray or ignore the principle idea of equal rights and opportunities for all sexes.
9. I Will Learn About the History of the Women's March
I will learn about the history of the women's movement so I can educate youth on what the women of history have done, and how their sacrifices made possible the rights and freedoms we enjoy today.
10. I Will Accept Discomfort
I understand that changing a broken system takes work, and it won't always feel good. Conversations about sexism, racism, transphobia, privilege, cultural appropriation, and other social issues are all related. I will accept discomfort as an important sign that we are making progress and we still have a lot to learn.

This Viral Song Perfectly Explains How No, President Trump, It's Not a "Scary Time" For Men
Amid the sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, Donald Trump said it is a "very scary time for young men in America." Oh? Days later, an acoustic song inspired by the president's comment, titled "A Scary Time," is going viral, with over 500,000 views on YouTube.
"I can't open up my windows when I'm home alone, I can't go to a bar without a chaperone, and I can't wear a miniskirt if it's the only one I own," says dancer and singer Lynzy Lab in what is now becoming a feminist anthem. Lab continues, "But it sure is a scary time for boys . . . it's really tough when your reputation's on the line and any woman you've assaulted could turn up anytime."
These last 48 hours have been a #whirlwind. I laid a bit low today... Taught my classes, reminded myself to breathe, and responded to messages when I could. To those I haven't been able to respond to, your love and support are not lost on me. Thank you all!
- Lynzy Lab (@mercedeslynz) October 10, 2018
Following the song's rapid internet success, Lab expressed her gratitude on Twitter and clarified that the song is not an attempt to "delegitimize men's struggles." She added, "I'm just hoping that we can finally start legitimizing women's." Listen to the timely and cathartic song in its entirety above.
Selena Gomez Is Seeking Treatment For "Ongoing Emotional Issues" After Hospital Breakdown
Following an emotional breakdown in the hospital, People reports Selena Gomez is seeking treatment on the East Coast. The 26-year-old actress and singer was hospitalized twice over the last few weeks for a low white blood cell count, a possible side effect of her kidney transplant. She experienced a panic attack during her second hospital stay, which led to her treatment.
"She has had a tough few weeks and the panic attack in the hospital was the tipping point," People's source said. "She realized she needed to seek additional help for her ongoing emotional issues. She's surrounded by close family and has a lot of support. She's doing better now and is seeking treatment on the East Coast."
Selena has been a vocal advocate for mental health, and entered a program to treat anxiety and depression earlier this year. On Sept. 23, she took a break from social media to "step back" and live her life "present to the moment." We wish Selena all the best as she focuses on her health.
Are You Sirius?! This High School Dance Team's Viral Harry Potter Routine Is So Damn Good
This ain't your typical Yule Ball, folks. The students of Arizona's Walden Grove High School are at it again, and they're taking us to Hogwarts with yet another viral dance sensation that'll blow you away. It seemed nearly impossible to top the dance team's Wizard of Oz-themed homecoming performance from last year, but they zeroed in on the fandom that can win us over every time: Harry Potter.
From the cupboard under the stairs and a Sorting Hat ceremony complete with "My House" in the background to an intense dance battle against Voldemort, this performance overlooks no detail. Watch the full routine above, and prepare to have your jaw drop within the first minute.
Sarah Drew Hasn't Watched a Single Episode of Grey's Anatomy Since Leaving the Show
Sarah Drew's exit from Grey's Anatomy might have happened last season, but we're still not over it. Luckily her character, April Kepner, doesn't leave the show in tragic fashion, instead running off into the sunset with her former fiancé and now-husband Matthew. But regardless of her happy ending on the show, Drew's IRL departure was a sad one for fans who were hoping to see her continue on in Shonda Rhimes's long-running medical drama. That's exactly why the actress can't bring herself to watch new episodes of the series any longer.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Drew opened up about why it's too "painful" for her to tune in after nine seasons of playing April at the 2018 Rape Foundation annual brunch in Beverly Hills. "I haven't been watching," she told reporters. "You know, it's a little painful to kind of go and watch your family move on without you."
Drew's exit from the show was a shocking one, especially since she wasn't the only longtime star who left - Jessica Capshaw, who portrayed Dr. Arizona Robbins for 10 seasons, was also written off at the end of season 14. Despite her decision not to watch Grey's anymore, Drew made it clear that she's still rooting for her former costars. "I wish everybody the best," she said. "I know they're having a wonderful time."
The show has since premiered its 15th season and is moving full steam ahead with its "season of love" theme, introducing a number of new romances. As for Drew, she has a number of new roles lined up, including the films Indivisible and Christmas Pen Pals.
Channing Tatum Is Dating Jessie J, and We Totally See a Resemblance to His Ex Jenna Dewan
Channing Tatum is jumping back into the dating pool following his split from Jenna Dewan. According to Us Weekly, the 38-year-old actor has reportedly been seeing 30-year-old Jessie J. The pair have apparently been dating for a couple months now, and Channing was recently spotted at the singer's Seattle and Salt Lake City concerts. It's still unclear how Jessie and Channing's romance came to be, but in 2015, Channing and Mark Wahlberg presented Jessie with an award at the MTV Movie Awards.
Channing and Jenna announced their separation after nearly nine years of marriage in April. At the time of their split, the former couple released a joint statement saying they are "still a family" and will "always be loving dedicated parents" to their 5-year-old daughter, Everly. Jessie, on the other hand, previously dated singer Luke James.
Amanda Peet Knows How Game of Thrones Ends, and It's Making Her "Very, Very Uncomfortable"
Game of Thrones fans have pretty much been in a mild state of torture for the past year. It's been over a year since the season seven finale left viewers completely shocked, and, unfortunately, any hopes of getting a new season in 2018 were quelled with the news that season eight wouldn't come out until 2019.
Fans have been carefully analyzing any released details about the final season that could provide a few hints about what to expect, including Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest. On Live With Kelly and Ryan, actress Amanda Peet, who is married to Game of Thrones co-creator David Benioff, tried really hard to curb Ryan's question about whether she has special access to classified information about the show. "I don't want to go down this road right now," she quickly responded with a smile. "I have a really bad poker face!" Kelly and Ryan tried their hardest to get Amanda to spill the beans, but Amanda held her own and only revealed a tiny bit about the upcoming season. Watch her nearly explode from trying to hold in any spoilers in the clip above.

How Much Oscar Potential Does A Star Is Born Actually Have? Let's Break It Down
It's a Hollywood tale as old as time: a film generates strong buzz on the festival circuit for months, only to falter when it actually comes time for Oscar nominations. Despite receiving standing ovations at festivals like TIFF (2016's The Birth of a Nation) or earning praise for dramatic performances (2017's Stronger), some films just can't leap all the necessary hurdles required to make it into the race for an Oscar. Will the same happen to A Star Is Born?
Bradley Cooper's long-gestating project premiered on Oct. 4 to rave reviews for both his and costar Lady Gaga's performances, as well as the film's undeniably strong soundtrack. In fact, The Hollywood Reporter recently shared that at the official Academy screening of the movie for LA-based members, so many people showed up that some had to be turned away at the door. The Academy members who did see it reportedly left "wowed" by the "outrageously stunning" film. Needless to say, it doesn't seem like Cooper's A Star Is Born is going to lose award season steam anytime soon.
As far as which Oscars the film - which is competing as a drama at the Golden Globes - might take home, we have a few ideas.
Best Original Song
This seems like a no-brainer. Between "Shallow" and "Look What I Found," the romance is jam-packed with showstopping songs from both its leads ("Why Did You Do That" notwithstanding). Recently, this category has seen wins from Disney-Pixar films like Frozen and Coco, as well as two wins in 2015 and 2012 for movies in the James Bond franchise. This year, we can see potential competition coming from Disney properties like Black Panther ("All the Stars" by Kendrick Lamar and SZA) and whichever big song comes out of Mary Poppins Returns, as well as Troye Sivan's original song for Boy Erased.
Best Actress
Lady Gaga is currently riding a wave of critical acclaim that could get her one step closer to an EGOT. This wouldn't be her first time at the Oscars: she was nominated in 2016 for best original song for "Til It Happens to You" from the documentary The Hunting Ground. This year, however, it looks like she could take home several Oscars including best actress for her role as Ally, a gritty singer-songwriter who becomes a huge star after meeting Cooper's aging rocker, Jackson Maine. She's already won a Golden Globe for her work in American Horror Story, and A Star Is Born is proof that her acting chops are legit. What might trip her up are the veteran actresses who could be in the category with her: Viola Davis (Widows), Felicity Jones (On the Basis of Sex), Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?), and Glenn Close (The Wife), among others.
In addition to starring, Gaga was a major contributor to the A Star Is Born soundtrack. She has writing credits on most of the film's biggest songs, including "Shallow," which is the strongest contender for a best original song nomination. More than one Oscar statue could be in her future!
Best Actor
Cooper gives Jackson - an alcoholic, aging country-rock star - his all, resulting in an incredibly authentic performance that's not only a career best but also deserving of some award season love. Rami Malek's performance as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody could be a strong competitor for Cooper, as well as Viggo Mortensen (Green Book), Ryan Gosling (First Man), and Christian Bale (Vice).
Best Director and Best Picture
At the moment, Alfonso Cuarón's Roma is wowing critics around the globe, and Spike Lee's work on BlacKkKlansman has already earned him countless standing ovations. Other names being tossed around are Marielle Heller (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) and last year's best director winner, Damien Chazelle (First Man). Still, Cooper pulling double duty by directing his excellent take on the classic Hollywood story as well as starring in it likely won't go unnoticed by the Academy. The film is both charming and emotionally raw, down to earth and unafraid of getting a little dirty. The race for best picture will be especially tough this year, but A Star Is Born is already rising to the top of many critics' prediction lists.
Our Wish Has Come True - Will Smith Shares a Look at Disney's Live-Action Aladdin Movie
Our wish is Will Smith's command. In an Instagram post on Wednesday afternoon, the 50-year-old actor confirmed that he will play the wise-cracking genie in the upcoming live-action remake of Disney's Aladdin. He shared a photo of the famous magical lamp, captioning it, "LEMME OUT!! Can't wait for y'all to see Me BLUE!" Although it's not a shot of him in character, we'll happily take it!
He'll star alongside other notable actors, including Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Marwan Kenzari. Considering Smith's comedic background, it makes sense that he's assuming the mantle - or lamp - from the late and great Robin Williams, who played the genie in the 1992 animated version. If you weren't already excited for this reboot, this news should definitely hype you up.
Jennifer Garner Is Reportedly Dating Again After Finalizing Her Divorce From Ben Affleck
Jennifer Garner recently finalized her divorce from Ben Affleck, but if you thought she was at home moping around, think again. On Thursday, the actress was all smiles when she arrived at Jimmy Kimmel Live! in LA. According to People, Jen is dating again, so that could also be the reason for her smile. "Jen has been wanting to move on and now [that] the divorce is finalized, she finally can," the publication reported. "She has had no choice but to be patient since Ben needed to finish his rehab treatment. But she was ready to sign the papers. She has been on dates, but it seems she isn't serious about a guy. As always, she is mostly focused on her kids and her job."
Ben and Jen were together for nearly a decade before they announced their separation in June 2015. Despite their split, Jen and Ben have maintained a united front for the sake of their kids - Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel - and Jen has supported Ben as he continues to battle his alcohol addiction. "Jen is doing great," a source added. "She has many friends that support her every day. She feels very lucky." Ben, on the other hand, recently ended his fling with model Shauna Sexton and is focusing on "his sobriety, family, and his next project."
Pick Your Jaws Off the Ground - It's Time to Talk About Riverdale's Season 3 Premiere
Warning: spoilers about the Riverdale season three premiere ahead.
Riverdale is officially back for season three, and we can already tell this is going to be one crazy ride. As expected, season three picks up three months after our red-headed hunk, Archie, is taken into custody. The first half hour or so we see quite a bit of drama. Everyone is grappling with the possibility of Archie going to jail, and the poor guy just wants to have a normal Labor Day weekend with friends before finding out the final verdict. And in true CW fashion, sh*t doesn't really hit the fan until the very end of the episode. Your mind might still be reeling from the premiere, so let's take a moment to reflect on some of the jaw-dropping moments from the season opener.
Here's a Status Update on Your Favorite Riverdale Couples Because, Yes, We're That Invested

Some of them will actually develop a stronger bond this season. We'll eventually see where Varchie, Bughead, and other duos end up. In the meantime, read on to see where they currently stand in their relationships.

A Refresher on All the People Taylor Swift Calls Out in "I Did Something Bad"
Taylor Swift isn't one to drop names, but she certainly doesn't mind giving subtle references in her lyrics. The singer's Reputation album was full of love songs about her boyfriend Joe Alwyn, but there were also a few mentions of her famous feuds and exes as well. While nothing can top the shady lyrics in "Look What You Made Me Do," her song "I Did Something Bad" is definitely a close second. Now that Swift performed the hit song on the American Music Awards, here's a little refresher on who the track is (most likely) about.
John Goodman Confirms Roseanne Barr Is Killed Off The Conners: "She Is Missed, Definitely"
The Conners is nearing its season one premiere, which means fans of the Roseanne spinoff's characters are about to face a potentially uncomfortable twist in the storyline - Roseanne Conner is dead, and her family is continuing on without her. Although the loss of star and creator Roseanne Barr is completely justified - the 65-year-old's bizarre, racist tweets caused the Roseanne reboot to get pulled from the air by ABC earlier this year - one of her costars is still coming to terms with her absence.
"She is missed, definitely," John Goodman, who plays Conner patriarch Dan, told Jimmy Kimmel on Monday night. "After that many years, it's like a family. And last year, it was so miraculous and so unreal that when [the show] went away it was almost like a dream."
Goodman went on to say that he's trying to "be a big boy" about the situation, but "crashed for a couple weeks" after Barr's Twitter tirade against Valerie Jarrett got the show canceled. "All kinds of weird stuff happened," he continued. "My wife got sick right after that [and] then I fell down the stairs."
At first it was unclear how Roseanne would continue on without its namesake star, but according to Goodman, costar Sara Gilbert's tireless effort helped The Conners come to be. He also noted that Barr "gave up a lot" so that people involved with the series could work. "It was very weird doing the first show without her because she's my buddy," he said. "I mean, we'd just sit there and she'd make me laugh and I'd make her laugh, which is fun because there's always a danger of her peeing herself."
The Conners premieres on ABC on Oct. 16.

This Is the 1 Thing I Did Twice a Week to Break Through My Weight-Loss Plateau
Intermittent fasting (IF) isn't for everyone, but it's like my soulmate. We live together in perfect harmony, and I feel my best when I'm doing IF, specifically 16:8, where I eat from noon until 7 or 8 p.m. I know this works the best for me because I've experimented with a few different methods such as skipping dinner instead of breakfast (terrible for family dinners!) and shortening my eating window to four hours (really tough for grueling CrossFit workouts!). I also tried stopping IF for two weeks, and I felt horribly bloated and tired the entire time, my sugar cravings increased, and I ended up gaining weight. I was so excited to get back to IF.
While living happily in my 16:8 life, I wasn't able to lose the weight I had gained from that IF break. Since mixing things up is recommended by experts to break through a weight-loss plateau, I decided to try a method of IF that my father had success with years ago known as the 5:2 plan, or the Fast Diet. Instead of fasting daily, like I was doing, you only fast two days out of the week and eat normally the other five. The catch is on those two fasting days, you can only consume 500 calories (600 for guys).
What I Did
For three weeks, I ditched 16:8 completely and did 5:2. Each week, I chose to fast on Wednesdays and Sundays, because I don't work on those days and thought it'd be easier if I could distract myself (and stay away from my kitchen). I chose to fast all day and then eat my 500 calories in the evening. I ate a small snack while cooking dinner around 4 p.m. (about 100 calories) and then had the rest of my calories at dinner around 5:30 or 6 p.m. On the other days of the week, I ate from 10 a.m. to around 8 or 9 p.m.
How I Felt
Mentally, the inconsistency was really hard for me that first week. I'm a schedule kind of girl, and not following the same eating plan every day was weird and messed with my energy levels. I didn't experience the same level of laser focus and high energy on those fasting days as I'm used to with 16:8, and I felt especially sluggish on my nonfasting days because I found not having the structure of an eight-hour eating window made me want to eat all day.
"Five hundred calories is not a lot, and during those first 10 days, I felt extremely hangry when I fasted."
Low energy increased my sugar cravings, and eating sugar made me feel bloated and my face broke out. Five hundred calories is not a lot, and during those first 10 days, I felt extremely hangry when I fasted, and the following morning, my ravenous appetite made me overeat. But by the third week, my body was used to the days I didn't eat until 4 p.m. I didn't feel hungry and I actually enjoyed the feeling of lightness and the time and mental space I gained from not thinking about food. Since I stopped eating around 6 or 6:30, and I hadn't eaten a ton, I definitely went to bed hungry, and on some nights, hunger pangs woke me up in the middle of the night.
The Hardest Part
I was on vacation that second week, and that helped as far as keeping my mind off food on those fasting days, but it was also a little tricky because my family was constantly eating and offering me food. That was the hardest part! I wasn't hungry, but it felt a little awkward having to make up excuses about why I wasn't eating lunch. Most of them know I don't eat breakfast, but I didn't want to explain this whole experiment, so I just said I felt bloated from eating a lot the day before.
Was I Able to Work Out?
For all three weeks, my workouts surprisingly felt fine. Since I'm used to working out in the early morning and not eating until noon, nothing had really changed there since I had energy from eating dinner the night before. If I ate dinner too late on those nonfasting days, I felt more bloated and tired, but other than that, workouts felt great. On those fasting days, I even felt inspired to walk more since getting outside was another good distraction and made me feel more energized. I also had enough stamina to attend a crazy-intense two-hour handstand workshop (where I learned the below pose, called Fallen Angel).
Did I Lose Weight?
To really see if this was an effective method of breaking through my weight-loss plateau, I weighed myself every morning for the first and third weeks. After that first week, I had actually gained (due to overeating), but once I got that under control, I found that by the end of the third week, I lost about two pounds. The before-and-after photos basically look the same. I can tell I was more bloated in the "after" photo, but I can also tell that my face and belly look a tad slimmer. Overall, I just feel less puffy and more comfortable in my skin.
Final Thoughts
I'm not a fan of 5:2, but it did get the job done. I hated the inconsistency in my schedule and in my energy levels. I felt less in control of my sugar cravings. I also have the tendency to want to keep eating once I start, even if I'm not hungry, and 5:2 definitely didn't help with that! Once I got used to not eating until 4 p.m. on those fasting days, I really didn't feel that hungry, and I enjoyed that "high" feeling so many IF-ers talk about. I also appreciated that changing up my eating routine helped me lose the extra weight I had gained during my IF break.
Will I keep going? Hell no! The 5:2 plan isn't something I can sustain, and that's what I love most about 16:8. I will say that not thinking about food, having to prepare food, or clean up dishes freed up time to do other things - I felt really productive on those days! But only eating 500 calories limited what I could do, and that part was frustrating. I think what I'll experiment with next is doing daily IF, but consuming all of my daily calories in a shorter eating window, from 1 until 7 p.m. I have some fitness goals like increasing my running pace, pressing into handstand, holding handstand longer, and being able to do more push-ups and pull-ups, and I feel like getting a little leaner will help. I'll keep you posted!
