Before Keira Knightley dedicated herself to starring exclusively - and excellently - in period films, the British actress appeared in a little movie called Love Actually. The 2003 rom-com follows a group of interconnected people through London over the holidays, checking in with them and their various struggles and triumphs with romance. It's since gone on to become a Christmas favorite, even spawning a "minisequel" last year. But you know who isn't an ardent fan of the film? Keira herself, who has apparently only seen it once (to be fair, I personally would rather fling myself off the nearest bridge than hear the sound of my own voice, so this seems understandable).
When she and Nutcracker and the Four Realms costar Mackenzie Foy recently down with Wired for one of their autocomplete interviews, she revealed she has no recollection of how the film ends, or who her character ends up with, which I find hilarious.
"Oh, I don't remember! Who do I end up with in Love Actually?" she stage whispers with a horrified expression. "I'm with my husband, aren't I? Aren't I with Chiwetel Ejiofor? Yeah? I've only seen it once, and it was a really long time ago. Am I? I don't go off with Andrew Lincoln?"
She did happen to recall where her character's home in the film was, however, immediately telling the camera that it's located in London's Notting Hill neighborhood. A lot of people know Tower of Terror as one of Disney's most iconic rides (RIP to the Disneyland one), but the creepy story behind it is what really makes us want to scream. The story follows Buzzy Crocker (Steve Guttenberg), an out-of-work newspaper editor whose stories attract the attention of an old woman named Abigail Gregory. Abigail claims that she witnessed an incident at the Hollywood Tower Hotel in 1939 when five guests - singer Carolyn Crosson, her boyfriend Gilbert London, child actress Sally Shine, her nanny Emeline Partridge, and bellhop Dewey Todd - were killed when the elevator they were riding in while on their way to a party at the hotel's Tip Top Club plummeted to the basement.
Abigail claims that Emeline orchestrated the entire thing because she was fed up with Sally's spoiled attitude, but her plan backfired when they became trapped inside the hotel as ghosts. Abigail said the "spell" can be broken once the elevator is fixed and items belonging to the dead can be found. Buzzy decides to try and solve the mystery with his niece, Anna (Kirsten Dunst), but they quickly realize that Abigail is actually Sally's sister, and that she was the one behind the deaths because she was jealous of Sally's booming career in Hollywood. Sally and Abigail are then reunited, and Sally reveals that the party at the Tip Top Club was actually a surprise party for Abigail. Sally apologizes to her sister for never making it to the party, and the two make up before they finally reach the Tip Top Club and all the trapped souls (plus Abigail) finally depart for heaven.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: Meet the Actor Behind Everyone's Favorite Warlock
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has only just premiered, and it's already a huge hit with fans. Whether viewers were drawn from the show's sister series, Riverdale, or just interested in meeting the next generation of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, they obviously loved what they saw. It's understandable; Chilling Adventures has the perfect soundtrack, bewitching wardrobes, rebel-rousing feminist undertones, and a dazzling cast of characters. But there's one character who managed to stand out in a major way: Ambrose Spellman, Sabrina's cousin from England who is the most relatable warlock of them all.
To say that Ambrose has become a fan favorite would be an understatement. Described as "witty, puckish and pan-sexual," the warlock can been seen throughout the series sipping on tea, lounging on any horizontal surface, and offering wisdom for the inexperienced blonde witch when she sorely needs it. Though his story takes a bit of a turn towards the end of the season and he winds up essentially trapped at the Academy of Unseen Arts by his beau Luke, Ambrose is arguably the most clear-headed of the Spellmans and often serves as the voice of reason when Sabrina finds herself spiraling out of control (though sometimes she doesn't listen to him . . . *cough* Tommy *cough*).
So who is the man behind our favorite English warlock? The smooth-tongued warlock is played by actor Chance Perdomo. Chilling Adventures is the UK native's first American role, but he has been seen in a few shorts, guest starred on a couple of TV series, and played a pivotal role in Killed by My Debt, a BBC Three drama based on the story of British teenager Jerome Rogers.
In Chilling Adventures Perdomo brings depth to a character that could have easily been a caricature. Rather than using Ambrose's pansexuality or otherness to define the character, the show allows Ambrose's actions stand on their own with only passing mentions of his orientation. "It's just part of a multifaceted individual," he said in an interview with Bustle. And it definitely shows. While Ambrose engages in a few sexual scenes with both men and women, his story doesn't revolve around his love life and it isn't the only interesting thing about him. Which was all done with the purpose of making him the beautifully complex warlock he is.
"These kinds of narratives are narratives we haven't seen explored in depth before, on TV especially," Perdomo added. "Ambrose is pansexual and an ethnic minority and he's a very old soul in a young man's body, like that's not your typical shirtless white man with a six-pack running in the jungle saving a damsel in distress story."
While we still have so much to learn about Ambrose and how his past will affect his future at the Academy of the Unseen Arts, there's no denying that the character has struck a chord with Chilling Adventures watchers. Nicole Kidman is revealing a big little detail about the upcoming season of her HBO show, Big Little Lies. Utah resident Keith Anderson certainly knows how to capitalize on a routine trip to the DMV. On Oct. 30, Anderson snapped a photo of an employee dressed up as a sloth for Halloween, and it's giving us some serious Zootopia vibes. Thankfully, Keith shared the photo on Facebook and it's been going utterly viral ever since.
He captioned the picture: "Someone at the Utah DMV dressed as a sloth," and we have to admit, the re-creation of this hilarious movie moment is almost too perfect. Apparently, parents everywhere agree. So far, the picture has racked up more than 147,000 shares and over 28,000 reactions. All we can say is, Judy Hopps would definitely approve!

1 Mom Is Warning Others After Her Daughter Was Temporarily Blinded by Colored Contacts
Julie Turcotte, a mom from Quebec, Canada, is warning parents about the dangers of colored contact lenses after her 11-year-old daughter Emilie went temporarily blind from using them in her Halloween costume. After wearing them for four hours during school and while trick-or-treating, Emilie woke up to her eyes "burning like fire" the following morning.
According to the worried mom, Emilie's eyes were "blood red" when she tried to open them. Doctors determined that the contact lens had damaged Emilie's corneas, resulting in temporary blindness for four days. Eventually, the tween regained her vision, but the near-accident was scary enough to last a lifetime.
"For four days we were so scared," Julie told The Montreal Journal. "She could not see anything. All that for Halloween contact lenses! When you lose your eyesight, it cannot be replaced . . . Contact lenses are a good disguise, but at what price?"
Julie isn't the only person who's warning others about the potential danger - the US Food and Drug Administration discourage people from using them unless they have a prescription from their doctor.
Christopher J. Rapuano, MD, chief of the Wills Eye Hospital Cornea Service, spoke with Yahoo about this specific incident as well. He said parents shouldn't let kids wear colored contacts unless they have a prescription. "Don't use these," he said. "Contacts need to be properly fitted by an official contact lens fitter for them to be used as safely as possible. Not having a proper fit makes the chances of complications go up significantly."

I'm pretty sure I'm having some sort of life crisis. It's a little too early to call it a midlife crisis; I'm still in my 30s. But I feel I'm at a critical turning point, a fork in the road: a time when one part of my life is about to end, and I'm being forced to enter the next phase. The passing years are pulling me kicking and screaming into my 40s. And my childbearing years are pretty much up. But there's an overwhelming part of me that still wants to have more children. How can I say goodbye to one of the most gratifying, defining experiences of my life thus far, which was being pregnant, giving birth, and raising babies? When I finally must accept the writing on the wall, that I am too old to conceive more kids, well, doesn't that mean I'm just . . . old?
Of course, I look forward to watching my four children grow up and being a part of each milestone with them, but closing the chapter on bringing new life into the world makes me feel inexplicably sad.
I started having children in my late 20s, and I recently gave birth to a fourth baby at the age of, gulp, 39. I kinda figured having this little one would be my last hurrah. Yet, the very day I welcomed him into the world, I still didn't feel "done." I've heard so many moms describe knowing that they're "done." They joke about the shop being closed for business, and seem genuinely ready to move on to the next chapter, to watch their babies grow, and to put diapers and breastfeeding and sleepless nights behind them once and for all.
So how come after four children, I've yet to experience that moment where I can confidently say I'm done? I'm starting to worry I'll never get there. Maybe I'm just not one of those people who will ever feel done. For me, carrying and birthing babies has been the most wonderful, exciting, special thing in my life. Nothing can compare to that love you feel when you meet your child for the first time. Unless you count the moment you find out you're pregnant, or when you feel your baby's first little kicks inside your belly. Over the past decade, growing our family has provided more joy than I can describe.
Of course, I look forward to watching my four children grow up and being a part of each milestone with them, but closing the chapter on bringing new life into the world makes me feel inexplicably sad. And truthfully, I can't help but think about how once I am no longer making babies, it's a quick trip to the nursing home. I'll be 40, then 50, then 60, then - hopefully - 70, then 80, then, sigh, it's all over.
My husband and I are at a point when we discuss the prospect of having another baby almost every day, mainly because I feel like time is running out. Sure, some women have babies at 45 or older, but for me, having a baby at 40 seems like I'm pushing my luck. So, should we or shouldn't we? I know our lives are hectic enough with four, but the biggest question I ask myself is, will I regret it if I don't? We only get this one life. I can't help but wish I'd met my husband earlier and started our family earlier.
I know I can't change the past. Now, I'm facing a daunting future, one that may or may not include another baby. A future that is completely unknown, in which I'm not sure how I will replace that lost joy, who I will be, what else I will be able to contribute. The only thing I can say for sure is that my childbearing years went by way too fast, and I'd happily relive them again. If only I could.

My Son's School Made a No-Phone Rule For Parents, So Consider Us Rightfully Shamed
A couple of months ago, I attended my parent orientation at my son's preschool. This wasn't my first go-around at this particular school; in fact, it was my fifth (my daughter attended the school for three years, and this is my son's second year). I basically only went out of mom guilt, feeling like I should make an effort since this is my last year as a preschool parent, but I certainly didn't expect to hear anything new, and certainly nothing surprising.
At first, I was slightly offended. Was she saying that we collectively cared more about our Instagram feeds and incoming texts than our children? But her explanation made total sense.
I was pretty zoned out through most of the director's speech, noting when she made the same joke about "don't believe everything they tell you about us, and we promise not to believe everything they tell us about you," which is totally true, but not quite as funny the fifth time around. Once she got to the rules portion of the program, I tuned in a bit more, knowing my son can be a bit of a handful. Yes, I knew preschoolers had to walk, not be carried, into school. And I knew the rule about no toys from home and the one about easy-off pants for potty breaks.
I was about to mentally check out again when she announced a new rule, one that did surprise me: parents would not be allowed to be on their phones at pick up or drop off. If the director saw you typing or scrolling away while waiting with or for your child, she'd ask you to put away your phone. Repeat offenders would be asked to hand over their phones while in the building.

"You have just a few minutes before, but mostly after, school to connect with your preschooler. When they walk out of their classrooms, they're dying to tell you about the craft projects they made, the games they played, the friends they sat next to, but after that few-minute window, they're on to the next thing, and you're going to get nothing from them."
From experience (like I said, fifth year of preschool here), I knew she was right. I carpool with a neighbor to preschool, and on the days I pick up my son, he exits his classroom jabbering about all the details of his three-and-a-half-hour school day. Five minutes later, he's already moved on to begging for a Happy Meal and trying to decide whom he should invite to his birthday party in three months. On the days when he's dropped off at home by my neighbor 10 minutes after school lets out, I can barely get more than a "it was fun" out of him.
Of course, the truth of this small window should be something we parents discover on our own, as we engage with our kids before and after their school days, but the reality of daily life is that yes, many of us are guilty of being distracted during that window by our girlfriends texting to ask if we saw last night's This Is Us. I know I've been that parent more than once.
The no-phones rule is a reminder of just how fleeting the time with our little ones really is, and how few the moments to connect with them about important things like learning the alphabet or developing friendships truly are. To soak them all in, I'll put away my phone without complaint. I'm just happy someone reminded me to do so.

My Kids Write Thanksgiving Thank-You Cards Every Year, and I Can't Recommend It Enough
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days. Since we live in a world where it's so easy to get consumed in our own lives and material things, I like the fact that we have a holiday that isn't about gift-giving. Instead, Thanksgiving is a time to gather with family and friends and reflect on all the blessings in our lives. That's why in my house, we've made it a family tradition to send Thanksgiving thank-you cards.
When I was a child, my father started our Thanksgiving dinners by giving each person at the table a few minutes to talk about what they were thankful for that year. That tradition has transformed a bit with my own kids. We have a "day of gratitude" during the Thanksgiving season, and last year, my kids started sending thank-you cards to a few people in their lives who bring value to them in some way.

We actually got the idea from one of my son's TinySuperheroes missions, which is a nonprofit organization that created an online community for kids fighting an illness or overcoming a disability. When these kids sign up, they're given a custom superhero cape and officially become part of the squad. The squad empowers its superheroes by recognizing the extraordinary qualities that make them unique. Each month, they participate in a mission to spread awareness through activities focused on their amazing qualities, like bravery, strength, hope, and joy. Last year, one of the missions in the Thanksgiving season had our son sending out a picture and note to five people he loves. He included what he wished for them, what he loves most about them, and why they make him happy.
I knew right away that this would become a holiday tradition for our family. We want our kids to be thankful for what they have, even the small things. And in the midst of all the chaos and stress of life, it's easy to overlook the innumerable blessings we all have. Sending thank-you notes is mutually beneficial. It's a simple gesture that allows our kids to reflect on what's really important in life, and it can make a huge difference to the person on the receiving end of the note.

Our son especially loves it, and his notes vary every year. Last year, he sent a note to one of his uncles, thanking him for always making him laugh; he sent a note to a local musician, thanking him for playing good music and giving him guitar picks; he sent a note to his sister, thanking her for being a good sister; and he sent a note to his doctor, thanking him for taking good care of him and helping him when he was sick. It was heartwarming as a parent to see how the little things people do on a daily basis bring memorable joy to our little kids' lives.
If you haven't had your kids send thank-you cards to a few people during the Thanksgiving season, I encourage you to do so. It's rewarding in so many ways. And our kids get extremely excited about surprising the people they love.

Dressed as characters from Alice in Wonderland the Harris family - Jillian, Justin, 2-year-old Leo, and 1-month-old Annie - has successfully made it so that I'd like to be adopted into their adorable brood. Even the family dog, Nacho Cilantro, got dressed up, and if I'm honest, he's the best damn one.

During the holidays, who doesn't love a home with the halls fully decked and a tree totally trimmed? But to get your house Christmas-ready is no small undertaking. The tree alone is often an hours-long process of unraveling garland, carefully hanging breakable glass ornaments, and silently cursing the giant wad of twinkle lights that are only half-working. And that's all after you get the tree in your living room in the first place!
OK, sure, that sounds awfully laborious. But what is the alternative?
Well, it used to be simply not having a Christmas tree at all. That is, until someone created a "solution" in the form of a 6.5-foot collapsible version that comes predecorated, complete with 400 clear mini-lights, shatterproof ornaments, 60 yards of ribbon, and a large bow topper.
That's right: you simply set up a pole and then pull the flattened "tree" up around it, fastening it at the top.
If that's too complicated, the "tree" makers even created an instructional video to show you how to do it in just 30 seconds flat.
According to the site that sells the trees - which weigh less than 15 pounds and are somehow already sold out - the "elegant Christmas tree looks like it took hours to decorate, but it really takes only a few minutes."
Elegant? That's a no. But a potentially genius way for lazy people to get in on the holiday spirit? It's worth a shot. What have you got to lose? A half a minute?
Mark Your Calendars, Parents - This Is When Elf on the Shelf Returns
Parents, it's that time of the year again. Christmas music will be playing in the grocery stores, kids will be writing letters to Santa, and if your family partakes in the beloved (and somewhat out of control) Elf on the Shelf tradition, your scout elf will be making their grand debut. But when exactly should you bring Elf on the Shelf back? Well, it might be a lot sooner than you think.
According to the official Elf on the Shelf website, you should bring back Santa's little helper sometime during Scout Elf Return Week, which is no earlier than November 23 and no later than December 1.
On page 3 of The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition book, the scout elf says, "At holiday time, Santa sends me to you. I watch and report on all things that you do." On page 4 of the book, the scout elf can be seen hiding behind the turkey during Thanksgiving dinner. So if your kids have the book and know the story well, they're going to expect their scout elf to have arrived by Thanksgiving!

And we are asking ourselves what this act of profound, premeditated violence means for the safety of our communities, our sacred spaces, our friends and ourselves.
In November 2016, I wrote an essay for POPSUGAR about the anti-Semitic, white supremacist firebombing of my synagogue in June 1999. I wrote about my fear and my hope. In the aftermath of Saturday's massacre, I heard from many friends expressing their support and asking what they could do to help.
