I Didn't Marry My "Dream Guy," but I Couldn't Be Happier
When I first met my husband, we were just a couple of 14-year-old freshmen in a sophomore-level math class. You would have thought we would have sat together in class like most kids the same age and grade would have done, but to be honest - and this is something I am definitely not proud of - I was a pretty shallow teenage girl back then, and I wanted nothing to do with him.
Throughout high school, my husband was a geek to the core. He was skinny and had braces and acne. He was incredibly intelligent and obsessed with Star Wars. His hair was never styled. I can still remember how his shaggy brown hair covered his eyes and ears. His clothes also lacked style. All I can ever remember him wearing were jeans that were way too tight for him and silly Far Side shirts. He was not my type at all.
I was a pretty shallow teenage girl back then, and I wanted nothing to do with him.
About a month before senior year ended, my husband and I somehow found ourselves in the same group of friends. His appearance and style pretty much looked the same as it did four years ago, but for the first time, I started noticing his personality. The boy was funny - as in super funny. He had a great sense of humor, and he could make me laugh like nobody else ever could. When I was getting ready for school in the morning, I looked forward to seeing him. After school, I found myself smiling just thinking about the way he made me laugh so hard earlier that day.
As we spent more time together during lunch, I learned more about him, and the more I learned, the more I liked about him. He had such a genuinely sweet and kind heart, and I couldn't get enough of him. At the time, it was hard for me to admit that I was falling for him, and I denied it to my friends. But deep down, I knew I had a crush on the boy I wouldn't have given the time of day to four years prior.
He asked me to the school dance, the very last dance of high school for us, and I said yes. We began dating, and the rest is history! We were married seven years later, which is a memorable day that will remain in my heart forever. I'll never forget how handsome he looked in his tuxedo as I walked down the church's aisle toward him - the boy I initially never thought would end up being the man of my dreams.
We recently celebrated our 10-year anniversary. My husband is still a huge geek, and I absolutely love him for it. He even turned me into a bit of a geek as well. I am so glad that I was able to let go of my shallow teenage girl ways in time to come to my senses back in high school and see my husband for who he really is: a funny, smart, sweet, and kind soul who can still make me laugh like no other and make my heart feel completely filled with love.
Prince Harry Shared What It Was Like to Ask Prince Charles to Walk Meghan Down the Aisle
Prince Harry shared a behind-the-scenes detail about his wedding day with Meghan Markle, but this one has to do with Prince Charles. During an interview for BBC One's documentary Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70, Harry opens up about the sweet response he received from his dad when asked to walk Meghan down the aisle.
ICYMI, back in May there was quite a bit of controversy surrounding who would fill that role at the royal wedding. Speculation circled over who would accompany Meghan when her father, Thomas Markle, announced he would not be attending the wedding after experiencing a health scare and a photo scandal surfaced. According to People, during the documentary Harry reveals what Charles said when approached with the task.
"I asked him to and I think he knew it was coming and he immediately said, 'Yes, of course, I'll do whatever Meghan needs and I'm here to support you" Harry recalled. "For him that's a fantastic opportunity to step up and be that support, and you know he's our father so of course he's gonna be there for us."
Aw! Charles stepped up to the plate to be there for his son and daughter-in-law, and it's likely this kind gesture made his bond with Meghan even closer. Tune into BBC One on Nov. 8 for the full documentary, a rare peek into the famous royal's life.
Deep Breaths! Looks Like Ariana Grande Teased Her Fifth Album Tracklist in New Music Video
Ariana Grande is the musical gift that keeps on giving. From her emotional "Thank U, Next" performance to her brand-new "Breathin'" music video, fans have been treated to a healthy dose of the 25-year-old singer's powerhouse talent recently. But wait . . . there's more! Eagle-eyed viewers have a very specific question on their minds after watching Grande's video: did she use the opportunity to tease the tracklist of her next album? It sure looks like it.
In the video, Grande makes her way through a crowded bus station, and for a brief moment, the departure board shows three possible song titles: "Needy," "Remember," and "Imagine." The names of these rumored tracks have been swirling around since before Grande's video dropped, and she has even shared a couple of snippets of "Needy" on her Instagram Story. This isn't the first time she's teased tracks in this way, either - her Sweetener tracklist was hidden within the "No Tears Left to Cry" video too. Leave it to Ms. Grande to keep us on our toes till the end of 2018. That's why her ponytail is so tight; it's full of secrets.

Selena Gomez Has Reportedly Left Rehab After Completing Treatment For Her Emotional Issues
Selena Gomez has left rehab after completing treatment for her "ongoing emotional issues." According to E! News, the 26-year-old singer "is out of her treatment program in NYC" and is doing "much better." Selena was hospitalized twice in October for a low white blood cell count, a possible side effect of her kidney transplant, and suffered a panic attack, which led to her treatment.
She is reportedly feeling "refreshed and is in a better head space." Selena will apparently "still be checking in with professionals as her health battle is ongoing" and "wants to lay low for a while and isn't ready to go full force into working yet."
Selena has been open and honest about her mental health issues in the past and entered treatment for anxiety and depression this past February. We're wishing Selena all the best as she focuses on her recovery.
Chris Pine on His Outlaw King Nude Scene: "It's No Fassbender Situation"
If you don't think Chris Pine is the best Hollywood Chris, then hopefully this truly delightful video featuring the Outlaw King actor discussing his much-buzzed-about nude scene in the upcoming historical drama will convince you. If it doesn't, I reserve the right to classify you as a sociopath from this point on. But I digress!
While sitting down with BBC Radio 1 film critic Ali Plumb for a discussion about the movies that "made" him - Star Trek, Wonder Woman, Just My Luck (just kidding about the last one, sadly) - the topic of Pine's brief, albeit very memorable, nude scene in the film inevitably came up. Apparently, Pine doesn't really understand the buzz his full-frontal appearance is generating, which will likely have the unintentional effect of making you fall even more in love with him, fair warning.
"A lot has been made about me being nude, and quite honestly, I'm only naked for . . . it's, uh, no Fassbender situation," he explained, making reference to Michael Fassbender's graphic nude scene in Steve McQueen's 2011 drama Shame. Despite Pine's protests that the real attention should be paid to the "animal" nature of his character, real-life Scottish king and rebel hero Robert the Bruce, the 38-year-old couldn't let the opportunity go by without mentioning that his penis is totally up to par with Fassbender's, in case anyone was wondering. "I mean, I'd certainly match him," he said.
Well, this settles it: this is the greatest Chris Pine moment since he rolled up to Comic-Con dressed as an off-brand tub of rainbow sherbet. All hail the Best Hollywood Chris!

The Cast of Riverdale Made a Flashback Music Video, and . . . It's a Lot, Guys
This week's episode of Riverdale is taking us back . . . way back. In a very special flashback episode, we're hearkening back to the time when all of the parents were just teenagers. The catch, of course, is that all the cast's mainstays will be playing their parents, which provides plenty of opportunities to ham it up. Suffice it to say Riverdale is taking the opportunity and running with it. We're talking extreme camp, people! And now, we have a music video to prove it!
Just ahead of the episode, The CW released a new music video, much like the "Anything Goes" speakeasy tune and the electrified "Jailhouse Rock" performance that came prior. This time, though, there's a veritable 12-foot submarine sandwich worth of ham; we're talking dorky dad dancing, mortifying mom moves, and all that cheesy '80s and '90s goodness that really made the end of the millennium a rolicking good time. I can't decide if I'm blissfully entertained or painfully embarrassed. Maybe it's both?
Ashley Graham's Sexy Bikini Photo Shoot Will Have You Wishing Summer Never Ended
Ashley Graham looks good in just about anything she wears, but there's something about her in a bikini that is incredibly sexy. On Tuesday, the curve model slipped into not one, but five swimsuits for a beach photo shoot in Malibu, CA. Spoiler alert: she looked amazing in all of them!
Ashley was recently featured in the latest issue of Vogue Paris, and in the accompanying interview, it was revealed that the model will be giving a talk at the third annual Vogue Fashion Festival on Nov. 10. Ashley will discuss her experience working in the fashion industry and how she challenged society's beauty standards. Way to go, Ashley!
Riverdale's Flashback Episode Kind of Made Us Want a Prequel Show About the Parents
The Riverdale flashback episode that we've all been waiting for finally premiered on Wednesday night, and it was truly a blast from the past. The actors who usually play your favorite mystery-solving teens put on different personas in the epic throwback and might have simultaneously made viewers love them more than the present-day Riverdale teens.
In the episode, Alice Cooper opens up to Betty about the town's shady past with the board game Griffins & Gargoyles. We're then taken back to Riverdale High when the parents of Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Archie, Josie, and Cheryl land themselves in detention, where they begin to connect and learn more about one another (yes, it's an ode to The Breakfast Club). Eventually, they discover the Griffins & Gargoyles board game in a teacher's desk of confiscated items and start to play it. Soon, they're immersed in the mythical world and even sneak back into the school at night to continue playing the suspicious game, deeming themselves "The Midnight Club."
Seeing Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, KJ Apa, Ashleigh Murray, Madelaine Petsch, and Casey Cott play the younger versions of their TV parents was interesting, to say the least, and a lot of Twitter users were loving it. See some of the impassioned reactions to the flashback episode ahead.
Rebel Wilson Apologizes For "Hurtful" Comment About Being "First-Ever Plus-Sized" Rom-Com Lead
Update: On Nov. 5, Rebel Wilson issued an apology on Twitter, saying that her initial statement "was not only wrong but also incredibly hurtful." She also apologized for blocking her critics and acknowledged other fuller-figured women in the industry who have starred in romantic comedies.
Original: On Oct. 31, Aussie actress and Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show to promote her 2019 rom-com, Isn't It Romantic. While discussing the importance of displaying body diversity in romantic comedies on the big screen, Wilson stated, "I'm proud to be the first-ever plus-sized girl to be the star of a romantic comedy." The declaration didn't settle too well with some, and it set an important debate ablaze on social media.
The issue that many took with Wilson's edict is that she's not the first fuller-figured lead in a rom-com. Other Hollywood power forces, notably Queen Latifah, Monique, and Ricki Lake, starred in rom-coms of their own. In fact, Queen Latifah was nominated for a Teen Choice Award as choice movie actress for a romantic comedy for her role in 2010's Valentine's Day. Many pointed out not only the inaccuracy of Wilson's comment but how it also exposed another pitfall of Hollywood: the tendency to erase the efforts and trailblazing impact of people of color.
Wilson tried to defend herself in a tweet, saying, "it was questionable as to whether: 1. Technically those actresses were plus size when filming those movies or 2. Technically those films are catorgorized/billed as a studio rom-com with a sole lead. So there's a slight grey area."
Even so, other popular films, such as Netflix's recent release Sierra Burgess Is a Loser and 2007's Hairspray, starred women with curves and discussed the importance of body positivity. Although fuller-figured women are underrepresented in Hollywood, especially in the rom-com scene, they aren't completely nonexistent, and many Twitter users were quick to address that while others tried to give Wilson the benefit of the doubt.
Read some of the mixed reactions to Wilson's proclamation, and her attempt to justify it, ahead.

Kate Hudson Stuns During Her First Public Appearance Since Becoming a Mom of 3
Kate Hudson is getting back to work just a month after giving birth to her third child, daughter Rani. On Wednesday, the actress participated in a panel with Michael Kors, NBC News's Natalie Morales, and The World Food Programme at the University of Los Angeles. Clad in a floral-print dress and heels, Kate looked radiant as she celebrated her new appointment as ambassador to the United Nation's food-assistance organization and marked her first public appearance since becoming a mom of three.
"As a mother, I understand the vital importance proper food and nutrition play in the life of a child," Kate said in a previous statement. "The work of the World Food Programme is so much more than just feeding people, it's about strengthening families, rebuilding communities, and ensuring everyone, everywhere has access to the food they need to not only survive, but thrive. After seeing their work first-hand, I'm sure that if we can get more people involved in this movement we really can move closer to a world with Zero Hunger."
Baby Rani is Kate's first child with boyfriend Danny Fujikawa, whom she has been dating since 2017. She is also mom to 14-year-old son Ryder Robinson and 7-year-old son Bingham Bellamy from previous relationships.
In the Mood For Nostalgia? Check Out the Most Iconic '80s Music Videos
Bruce Woolley and the Camera Club once crooned that video killed the radio star, but their tongue-in-cheek song would later become MTV's first music video. The '80s ushered in an explosion of vivid, colorful music videos decked out with big hair, ripped chests, and gratuitous displays of wealth. The decadent glam of Madonna's "Material Girl" and the steaminess of Prince's "When Doves Cry" embody the sexy, fun spirit of the decade. In contrast to the outburst of color, you could also find moody, artsy concepts in A-ha's "Take On Me" and The Police's "Every Breath You Take." Whatever camp you prefer, you have to admit that '80s music videos had style. Keep reading to see the cream of the crop, boomboxes and neon dancewear optional!

The Princess Switch: Vanessa Hudgens Plays Look-Alikes in Netflix's New Holiday Romance
The first trailer for Netflix's The Princess Switch is here, and oh boy, A Christmas Prince might have some competition. Vanessa Hudgens stars as Chicago baker Stacy, who ends up meeting a soon-to-be princess who looks exactly like her. Naturally, they decide to trade places (because duh), which results in a whole ton of likely cringe-worthy, albeit still deeply enjoyable, mischief. If you're a fan of royal holiday romances, you'll be happy to know this movie has everything: a contrived reason to cross paths with a royal family, bad British accents, a wonderfully dumb name for a fake country, and even a love triangle. The Princess Switch truly has it all, people. Watch it above before it arrives on Netflix on Nov. 16!

This Trainer's 2 Favorite Exercises Will Make You Stronger and Really Tone Your Lower Body
If your goal is to build more muscle and improve your strength, you've definitely got to begin incorporating strength training into your routine. Not just because we love it, but because research says it works. According to a 2006 review in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, "The general benefits for men and women include an increase in bone mass and lean mass, improved body composition (due to decreased fat mass), cardiovascular fitness, strength, and an enhanced sense of well-being."
To improve your overall strength, NASM-certified personal trainer and creator of the PWR program Kelsey Wells recommends incorporating barbell exercises into your workout routine. "I absolutely love barbell exercises," Kelsey told POPSUGAR. "Everything you do with a barbell is a compound exercise. It strengthens your whole body, essentially, because your core has to be engaged."
Kelsey said that using the barbell can be extremely intimidating - even she was afraid to use it when she started lifting weights. Initially, she wasn't strong enough to lift the barbell, but now it's become a staple in her routines, with her favorite moves being sumo squats and deadlifts.
If you're new to weightlifting, we don't advise using the barbell to perform these moves. First, master each movement with just your bodyweight and then begin to add dumbbells into the mix. Once you've mastered the dumbbells, you can graduate to using the barbell.
To learn how to do each move, continue reading.

In Case You're Wondering, Divorce Doesn't Always Get Easier
Many people think that once you sign those divorce papers, you're home free, that your past can stay in the past, that you can fully move on. But unfortunately, that's not always the case. It's especially true if you have kids together, because when there are kids involved, you're tied to that person for the rest of your life. Somewhat recently I was at dinner for a work event surrounded by other women. As the conversation usually does, it turned to kids, marriage, and dating. When I mentioned I was divorced, another woman at the table was quick to share her own experience as a divorced mom. She went into a whole story about the crazy she deals with on a regular basis regarding her ex. Another guest at the table was quick to say, "Jesus! You're divorced, what's left to fight about? You need to get over it."
It was hard not to see red. It was hard not to pounce and put her in her place. Because you can totally be over it, in terms of the relationship, but still deal with headaches from the dynamic. Instead, I bit my tongue and through somewhat gritted teeth said, "I'm sorry, did you say you were divorced, too?" She said no, and I gave her one of those "then perhaps you should keep your mouth shut" looks with a smile, and she backed off. Divorce is one of those things that's hard to even imagine unless you've spent time in the mucky trenches.
Even if both parties move on and live happily ever after, there's still baggage in the form of history and triggers. The longer you were together, the more there are. Those don't just disappear into thin air because you signed a legal document.
I've been divorced for several years. Enough time to get remarried and have a second child, but there are still days where I end up with a migraine from dealing with the divorce shrapnel. Parenting is hard enough on a good day with both parents living happily under the same roof. So when you throw the divorce dynamic into the mix, it complicates things on a whole other level. There are inherent and undeniable challenges that accompany co-parenting, big and small.
Kids leave a specific shirt they need for school at the other parent's house. Homework is left on their desk at Mom's when they're spending the night at Dad's. There's a birthday party for your friend's kid on your ex's weekend. You can't find the field trip permission slip due today because it's been taken out of the backpack so many times already and it's now lost. Schedules, no matter how consistent, are still a mess when you're navigating one kid between two households. Sometimes kids play both sides against each other. And guess what? Sometimes a kid is tired and just doesn't want to do the shuffle, and that creates a different set of heart-wrenching challenges.
These little logistical hiccups can pile up and make you feel like you're losing your mind. And that's when everything is peaceful! Just wait until there's a difference of opinion between you and your ex, or a sh*tty mood or argument, and then you're dealing with maddening aggravation. In theory, it seems as if everything should magically be status quo. And you know what? Sometimes it is! But sometimes it's a sh*t show, and it doesn't matter how long the ink on the divorce papers has been dry.
Let's be real: people don't typically get divorced because they like each other and are in a good place. They end their marriage because it's no longer possible for them to be in a healthy, functioning, happy home together. So even if both parties move on and live happily ever after alone or with other people, there's still baggage in the form of history and triggers. The longer you were together, the more there are. Those don't just disappear into thin air because you signed a legal document. Some days buttons are pressed and you want to scream, and some days all is quiet on the home front and you're like old pals. It's a curious mix that becomes your new baseline, and in an odd way, you get used to it.
If you do remarry or end up in another relationship, and even have more children, now you have a blended family. You count your blessings and embrace your new family dynamic and simultaneously realize that it brings a slew of different complications to the table. You have multiple children - siblings - who do not live under the same roof seven days a week. That's when the mom guilt really sets in and makes a divorce feel even more obvious.
Even with a divorce that's ancient history, you may continue to feel the residual effects. There are days it feels small and days it feels harder to be divorced than it was to be in a failing marriage. It's one of those parts of ending a marriage that nobody talks about. And while it may feel like an entire lifetime since your marriage and subsequent divorce, there are moments that can bring acrimonious nonsense to the surface and frustrate the hell out of you.
You learn to breathe a lot. You find things that bring you back to your sane place - maybe it's a girls' dinner, an hour-long b*tch session with your best friend, your new partner reminding you how great life is, wine, yoga, or kissing your babies and trying to let go of the bullsh*t and remember every day is a new day.
You can't just snap your fingers and will everything to be sunshine and roses after a divorce. But you can learn to roll with the ever-changing waters. Riding the rough waves and reveling in the waters when they're peaceful. And you can take it day-by-day and remind yourself that life is filled with complications that provide teachable moments and strength, and most of all, that the good always outshines the ugly. Always.
Is It Safe to Get the Flu Shot While Pregnant? Why Experts Say It's Vital For Your Baby's Health
If you're pregnant, flu season can be very scary. To avoid getting sick and keeping your baby as healthy as possible, you may be wondering if it's safe to get the flu shot. Well, good news: not only is it safe, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists strongly advise pregnant women to protect themselves against the flu by getting immunized, no matter their stage of pregnancy.
POPSUGAR spoke with Sabina Kobylinski-Tognazzini, assistant medical director at Doctor On Demand, who seconds the motion that pregnant women should get the flu shot. "Pregnant women can receive the flu shot in any trimester," she said, emphasizing it's the shot that's safe for pregnant women, not the live nasal spray vaccine.
It's actually very important to get vaccinated against the flu if you're expecting because, as Kobylinski-Tognazzini explained, "Pregnant women are likely to become much sicker after catching the flu than nonpregnant women due to changes in body chemistry." Further concern is that catching the flu can be potentially harmful to an unborn baby. According to the Mayo Clinic, getting a fever caused by the flu in early pregnancy can increase the risk of fetal birth defects. The good news is that getting the flu shot during pregnancy offers protection for your baby. "Pregnant mothers who are immunized with the flu vaccine can pass along protective antibodies to their babies after birth," Kobylinski-Tognazzini said.
Your doctor can advise as to any reason you should not get the flu shot, such as if you have a severe, life-threatening egg allergy or have suffered a bad reaction to the flu vaccine previously.
Reptar Bars Are Actually Available to Buy, and Yes, They'll Turn Your Tongue Green
ATTENTION '90S KIDS: Rugrats' Reptar Bars, the "candy bar supreme" that "turns your tongue green" - aka Angelica's favorite snack besides cookies - are available to purchase for the second year in a row. Sold exclusively at FYE stores and online for a limited time, the bars look a little different than last year's offerings (which were just milk chocolate bars filled with green frosting). Most notably, they look and taste a hell of a lot more like they're described in the jingle Angelica proudly sings to the babies before chomping into one herself:
A Reptar Bar is chocolate and nuts and caramel and green stuff, and, and, and swirled and stirred and rippled and beaten, and sweetened and sweetened until you can't stop eatin'.
The superist! The duperist! The double chocolate scooperist! The meanest! The best! It's better than the rest! Reptar Bar, Reptar Bar, the candy bar supreme! The candy bar that turns your tongue greeeeeeen!
According to a press release, FYE's six-ounce deluxe bars, which stand at six-and-a-half inches tall and look just like Reptar, have a "delicious milk chocolate exterior, swirled with nuts and caramel, featuring a tasty bright green frosting center that turns your tongue green." And just for kicks, there's also a second version inspired by Reptar on Ice featuring simply milk chocolate with a blue frosting center.
They're the perfect gift for your '90s-loving friends but also for your kids' stockings to help introduce them to the most coveted fictional chocolate bar of that decade. Bless you, FYE.

Although Disneyland won't be fully outfitted with holiday decor until Nov. 9, the fact that the Sleeping Beauty Castle has already been partially decked out with fake snow and icicles is enough to make us embrace the upcoming season with open arms. Ahead, catch a sneak peek at this year's Christmas decorations at the California theme park, along with a few reactions from attendees who can barely contain their excitement.

Why I Give Back on Black Friday Instead of Shop
I don't go shopping on Black Friday. In fact, I'm almost dead set against it. I'll admit that I've considered getting on the Black Friday bandwagon a few times, especially when I hear friends and family brag about how much money they saved. But as a parent, my Black Friday activities lead me away from the stores. And instead of Black Friday being about great deals for families who desperately need them, I feel like it's become more of a sport that involves camping out the day before and seeing who can stand in a longer line.
So instead of dealing with all of that, we do something a little different in my family: we use Black Friday to give back. We're a family that gives back all year, so Black Friday allows us to do just a little bit more than usual. One of my son's favorite traditions is to make donations to local charities, which gives them the opportunity to use the Black Friday sales and buy things for half the price of what they would normally pay. Things like toys, hats, and books can be purchased for children battling cancer or undergoing frequent or long hospital stays. And with those savings, they can buy twice as much.
Before the day arrives every year, my husband, son, and I each choose a charity we want to support. This gives my son the opportunity to focus on something he feels strongly about, and it teaches him to think of others during what can be a very difficult time for some families. Sure, shopping on Black Friday would mean we could save a lot of money ourselves, but I think it's too easy to get dragged into the chaos of it all and lose sight of the deeper meaning of the holiday season. I just don't feel that Black Friday shopping is the best way to spend the day after Thanksgiving.
I can only hope that this example we try to set for our son can spark amazing change in those it touches. Black Friday is exciting for our son. He gets to give back to a charity of his choice in a way he feels would help the most. Whether it's making a monetary donation, cooking and serving meals for homeless veterans, or bringing some music and activities to families of sick children, he gets to make a difference. And that difference is felt by so many.
So, no, we don't spend Black Friday in line at a retail store. We spend it in line with the values we hope to instill in our little boy. We spend it giving back to those who can't go to the stores themselves. We spend it continuing what we started the day before on Thanksgiving.
The Christmas Traditions Joanna Gaines Does EVERY Year, in Case You Want to Steal Them
If you think it's still too early to have your house decorated for the holidays, Joanna Gaines might just sway you.
"I start anticipating this day long before November even thinks about arriving," she wrote in the latest issue of Magnolia Journal. "While others have yet to clear away their pumpkins, our household has entered a full-blown holiday mindset."
Her reason is valid: "We are faithful first customers at our local Christmas tree farm . . . in early November, you have your pick of trees."
Their punctuality isn't the only beloved tradition in the Gaines household. In her essay, she recalled memories of "evenings spent making peppermint bark with my girls" or sitting fireside "with all of the kids snuggled around us, gazing at the lights til our eyes are too heavy to keep open." But mostly, she noted that the key to Christmas, for her, is to keep things simple and the same year after year.
"For other things, we're excited about learning, seeing, or exploring something new," she said. "But Christmas is different."
On How She Divvies Up Decorating
"Everyone takes a task: the older kids lead the charge on hanging the ornaments while the younger ones hunt for everyone's stocking."
On Not Falling For "Trendy Ideas" For Decorating the Tree
"I want to decorate our tree with our same ornaments that we ooh and ahh over each year, one maybe commemorating Drake's first Christmas or another perhaps celebrating Emmie's first lost tooth. And our tree could never be complete without the kids' homemade offerings. And while the Popsicle-stick picture frames have cracked over the years, and the photos within them have faded - it only make me love them all the more."
On Her Go-To Recipe
"It's rare for me to get excited about a new holiday recipe. I'm not looking for ways to reinvent the season. Instead, all I want is to gather the same ingredients for the same beloved cinnamon rolls that I've baked on Christmas morning for as long as I can remember."
On the 1 Decoration She Always Unpacks
"Every year, Chip and Drake hang my very favorite antique sign, the one that we got early in our marriage that says, 'Christmas Trees For Sale.'"
On Keeping Things the Exact Same Year After Year
"We count down the days, just to experience it nearly exactly as we always have. It is so comfortably familiar and perfectly nostalgic that, frankly, we have no desire to improve upon it at all."
On Adding Baby Crew to the Mix For the First Time
"This is our first Christmas with baby Crew, and we get to experience our family traditions through his delighted smiles, with his bright eyes serving as a sort of mirror. I hope he'll see that we're not looking for new and improved. But rather that we're taking the best parts of every Christmas past and unpacking them for Christmas present."

This Video Pits Random Junk Against Fancy Baby Toys . . . And You Can Guess Where This Is Going
It's a running joke among parents that their babies often love the box a toy came in more than the toy itself. But is it really just a joke, or is there something to the fact that you can spend inordinate amounts of money on fancy developmental toys that sit unused in a bin while your infant sobs every time you rip the remote control from their tiny fingers?
Esther Anderson, who blogs about her family on Story of This Life, has had a three-kids-in theory "about babies and baby toys" that she tested out on her infant Aubrie.
Six different times, she placed two items in front of Aubrie - one was always a colorful new toy. The other was a random item, like car keys, her cell phone, or an empty package of baby wipes. She waited to see which one Aubrie reached for first, and, well, we'll let you take a guess as to what won out.
"The results proved it to be so true," Esther wrote alongside the video.
So, all joking aside, parents, don't overdo it with the expensive baby toys this holiday season!

While our kids are busy tracking Santa's path online and taking photos of their presents for Instagram, we knew how to really have some festive fun in a much simpler time.
The season wasn't made until we had our favorite holiday VHS rewound and in the VCR and a hot cup of cocoa loaded with marshmallows in our hands. From the most memorable commercials (raise your hand if that Campbell's snowman ad gets you every time!) to physically looking through a catalog to find the best toys, Christmas was unplugged and oh so cool. Check Your Pantry Before You Bake With Your Kids - These 4 Cake Mixes Have Been Recalled
Check your pantries before baking with your kids!
Conagra, the parent company of Duncan Hines, just announced it's recalling four types of its boxed cake mixes due to a salmonella outbreak. The FDA reports that it "worked with Conagra Brands to initiate a voluntary recall of Duncan Hines Classic White cake mix," as it's currently investigating five salmonella cases that have been linked back to that specific mix. Out of an abundance of caution, Conagra has also voluntarily recalled three other boxed mixes that were made made during the same time period: Classic Yellow, Classic Butter Golden, and Signature Confetti.
To find out if you have any affected products, check your 15.25-ounce boxes of mix to see if they match the following UPC codes and "Best if used by" dates:
- Duncan Hines Classic White Cake: UPC code 644209307500 and "Best if used by" dates of March 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, and 13, 2019
- Duncan Hines Classic Yellow Cake: UPC code 644209307494 and "Best if used by" dates of March 9, 10, 12, and 13, 2019
- Duncan Hines Classic Butter Golden Cake: UPC code 644209307593 and "Best if used by" dates of March 7, 8, and 9, 2019
- Duncan Hines Signature Confetti Cake: UPC code 644209414550 and "Best if used by" dates of March 12, and 13, 2019
The FDA said, "Consumers who have purchased these items are advised not to consume them and to return them to the store where purchased." See the FDA's warning, photos of the boxes in question, and where to find the UPC codes and "Best if used by" dates ahead.
Practice Safe Sipping - This Genius Product Is Basically a Condom Wine Stopper
When I think of the biggest catastrophes facing the world today, there are three that come to mind: ignoring the facts about climate change, not exercising your ability to vote, and, of course, wasting good wine. I'd like to use this platform to talk about the wine.
While there are plenty of ways to avoid this alcoholic burden (just drink it all seems like the easiest solution), many people like to go the wine-stopper route. It's intuitive - drink as much as you want, then stop and cork it - but what about those times when you're sipping on the go and need a way to save your precious red?
This is just the type of scenario that motivated a mom-and-son duo to create Wine Condoms ($14 for six), and yes, it's just what it sounds like. These wine stoppers are made of thin, stretchy material that rolls down the, er, shaft of the bottle to preserve the wine. Stash one in your bag so it's always there when you need it.
Ali Fedotowsky Got Candid About Her Postpartum Body - and We're Loving Every Word
Former Bachelorette contestant Ali Fedotowsky knows how easy it is to get caught up in how your body used to look after giving birth. In a moving Instagram post, the mom explained that while it's hard not to notice that new wrinkle or stretch mark, it's best not to pay it any mind. And frankly, it's the reminder that every mom needs.
"Self-love is a difficult thing to fully embrace," she wrote. "When I look at myself in the mirror I can't help but notice that my hips are wider than they used to be, my wrinkles are deeper than when I was in my 20s, and my stomach has lumps and bumps that didn't used to be there."
Although it's always easier to be extremely self-critical - motherhood is no easy feat, after all - it's important to embrace and celebrate the physical battle scars of parenting.
"But then I try to remember that my hips are wider because they give birth to two beautiful children," she said. "My wrinkles are deeper because I've spent countless sleepless nights making sure my kiddos are cared for, fed, and loved. And my belly is extra squishy because it spent 18 months making sure two sweet little babies had a place to call home. Sometimes what we see as 'flaws' on the outside, are actually what make us stunningly beautiful on the inside."

This future "momager" captioned the pictures: "I found a tiny denim jacket at goodwill," and naturally, her tweet instantly went viral. So far, the photos of her kitty have racked up 307,000 favorites and more than 86,000 retweets. At the end of the day, Oliver can wear a jean jacket better than anyone who ever even existed in the '80s. Sorry, not sorry!
