My Husband and I Always Get Caught Having Sex in Public Places, and We Love It

It's totally normal to find your sex life in a rut. It's especially common after having kids, although that's not a requirement. For me and my husband, we found our sex life lagging after years of unsuccessfully trying to get pregnant. Sex had become a chore, and battling infertility had taken its toll. Some couples try everything from alcohol to a little dirty talk to try to find their groove again, but luckily for us, having children did the trick. With the stress of trying to get pregnant finally behind us, we have a hard time keeping our hands off of each other now.

I've lost count of all the times and places we've been caught. Restaurant bathroom? Been there. Department store fitting room? Done that.

With a whole gaggle of kids at home, finding the time and energy for sex can be challenging. That's why we take advantage of every opportunity when it's just the two of us. Sometimes, those opportunities happen to be when we're out in public places. And sometimes, we get caught. We've never tried to get caught. We do our best to be quiet and discreet, but police officers have jobs to do, people get lost, and some employees are a little overzealous.

The first time we got caught was in a dark corner of a beach parking lot. We weren't the only parked car in the lot, so the idea that someone would come up to our car never even crossed our minds. I'm not sure what prompted the intrusion - Was the car moving? Were the fogged-up windows that noticeable? - but all of a sudden, we found ourselves scrambling to cover up in the backseat after a cop knocked on the window with his flashlight.

Have you ever heard someone talk about their life flashing before their eyes? Well, mine did in that moment. Or rather, my future did. Was he going to make us get out of the car with our pants down? Because whoever else was sitting in their cars was now watching whatever police activity was about to go down, undoubtedly with cameras ready. Would we be arrested? My mugshot plastered in all the local papers for my boss and coworkers to see? I would surely be losing my job. And just as I thought, "Oh my God, this cannot be happening to me of all people. I am such a prude," he asked us if we'd been drinking (we had not) and for identification. With our licenses in hand, he went back to the squad car, which had seemingly appeared out of nowhere. And after what seemed like an eternity, he came back, returned our licenses, and told us to go home. My heart continued racing until we pulled into our driveway 15 minutes later. Then, we just broke out into uncontrollable laughter, because really, what else could we do?

Since that humiliating first time, I've lost count of all the times and places we've been caught. Restaurant bathroom? Been there. Department store fitting room? Done that. The most recent was at a wedding. We ate quickly, snuck out, and moved the car closer down toward the entrance to the vineyard. Someone must have seen us leaving and followed us, because within minutes, the car was surrounded by half a dozen employees, each armed with a serious face and overly bright flashlight. But since we're now seasoned pros, we were able to (much to their dismay, I'm sure) laugh, shrug, and tell them that we have too many kids at home. What we didn't tell them is that having sex in public places, where we always run the risk of getting caught, has become a favorite pastime of ours. What started out as something we kind of did out of necessity has become one of our biggest and hottest turn-ons. So frankly, we won't be stopping anytime soon.

When it comes to my kids, I'm more afraid of getting caught by them and having to explain ourselves, because they're still at an age where they either reenact or repeat everything. And the last thing I need is for their entire class to hear about Mommy and Daddy doing whatever we'll tell them we're doing at home. So for now, if you happen to catch us, just go easy on us.

Dear Candy Canes, as a Parent, I Seriously Hate You

Dear Candy Canes,

You know the famous tale about how the Grinch stole Christmas? Well, I think it was actually you. I mean, first of all, just look at you. You put on such a front. You're so nicely wrapped and packaged that no one would ever think you'd cause such misery. You hang so nicely from Christmas tree branches, over the tops of stockings, and are the perfect finishing touch to any holiday present. You smell good. You come in an assortment of colors - the traditional red and white peppermint is my personal favorite - and (mostly good) flavors. And you're, I'll admit, delicious. Yes, you are the quintessential holiday symbol and treat. But while you scream holiday cheer, you put parents everywhere into a state of madness. And I mean madness.

How many parents have found remnants of you in the most unusual spots in their homes? After a seemingly innocent trip to the mall to meet Santa Claus or a family gathering with generous aunts and uncles, your sweet treats get sucked on for a few minutes before they're dropped or forgotten. I can't tell you how many old, nasty pieces of you I've found in the back of our car during the holiday season (and in the months after). I basically have to pry you off my kids' car seats with pliers for crying out loud! I've found you in their beds (sneaky little stinkers) and the worst place of all, the dryer. Yes, somehow the remnants of you made it through the wash cycle and into the dryer, only to be smudged all over my son's jeans, ruining the rest of that load of laundry.

Thanks a lot.

Did I mention the stickiness? DID I?! Parents of toddlers everywhere loathe the site of you, you red-and-white-striped holiday cheer stealer. Instead of our sweet children calmly enjoying you as a treat, we're left chasing them around and wiping their fingers and mouths at all times making sure they don't touch Aunt Suzy's new white couch. And parents all know that having a daughter takes things to a whole different level. My daughter has gotten many of you caught in her hair. It takes forever to get you out without cutting her beautiful locks! So. Much. Screaming.

So, candy canes, while you may look nice, you definitely belong on the naughty list. You're a hindrance to our holiday cheer. No, you're a holiday cheer bandit. If you can somehow get a hold of all of your sticky behavior, maybe, just maybe, I'll let you enter my home again. But until then, you're staying the hell out of my kids' stockings, our Christmas tree, and my daughter's hair.

From,
The Grinchiest Mom Out There

I Did a Random Act of Kindness Every Day For a Week, and Here's What Happened

When I fell into a deep depression after losing a pregnancy last year, it was the smallest things that lifted my spirits, and helped me get through each day. A smile, a kind word, someone holding a door open for me. Those considerate gestures helped me feel less alone and remember there is still so much good in the world.

With my experience in mind, I decided to perform one random act of kindness each day for a week. My hope was to brighten someone else's day much like people did for me when I really needed it. I expected that helping others would also make me feel good. What I didn't expect was how much approaching my week with the intent to show kindness to others would open up a whole new world. I ended up learning that opportunities to show kindness to others are all around us, if we take the time to look for them.

Read on to see exactly what happened when I did a random act of kindness every day. Here's hoping you'll be inspired, too.

31 Cats Sitting on Santa's Lap That May or May Not Be Poised to Attack

If you're a cat owner, you know that most cats only like to be snuggled on their own terms, and even then, there's a very delicate balance between "I'm going to lie here forever" and "Peace out, homie!" That simple fact is what makes these photos of cats sitting on Santa's lap 100 million times funnier, because as cute as these felines all are (SO. DAMN. CUTE.), you just know that they've all got to be mentally poised to attack at any given moment.

Please, stop whatever you're doing and LOL with me over these hilarious cat photos. (And godspeed, Santa.)

I Can Only Sleep on a Superflat Pillow, and This Adjustable One From Amazon Is Life-Changing

Staying in a hotel is a nightmare for me. Almost every room features the fluffiest and thickest pillows, which is great for some people, but I always wake up with a neck ache the next day. Because I only like superflat pillows, the process of finding the perfect one usually consists of waiting two years for it to wear down and become my ideal thickness. This all changed when I discovered the Sleepgram Adjustable Hypoallergenic Pillow ($50) on Amazon.

The hypoallergenic pillow zips open and features two different-size inserts that you can remove or add, depending on what works best for you. The various inserts give you the opportunity to choose between three options: soft, medium, or firm support. So, you can choose what's best for you, depending on whether you sleep on your back, side, or stomach.

I have to admit I was hesitant to try this pillow because I'm so picky, but I was totally blown away.

I have to admit I was hesitant to try this pillow because I'm so picky, but I was totally blown away. Since I normally wear down my already flat pillows, they always end up feeling old and lifeless; this pillow gave me a fluffy, soft, and supportive feeling I had never really experienced before. Not only did it give me the best night's sleep I've had in a while, but I could also give the thicker insert (which just feels like an actual pillow) to my boyfriend, and he loves it. Win-win.

Have a king-size bed? No problem; it also comes in this larger option ($78). Plus, you can even clean it in the washing machine, making it a long-lasting pick. It's time to stop sleeping on that pillow you hate and treat yourself to this one. It's available on Prime and will be delivered within just two days.

Centering My Holiday Celebrations Around This 1 Thing Has Made All the Difference

I'm not a fan of the New York City cold and what the streets look like the day after it has snowed, but I do love the warmth you feel in the air when you walk past a holiday market selling hot cider. Or how the city that's always rushing to get from one place to another suddenly moves slower - thousands of people crowding around Rockefeller Center, the holiday window displays at Macy's, the carols that play in every store you walk into, and the abundance of holiday decorations.

Whenever I remember what the holidays were like growing up, I can't help but think about turkey, ponche, Santa Claus, grapes, 12 wishes, and getting to stay up past my bedtime on Christmas and New Year's Eve. We had numerous calendars with Xs crossing out the days until the next holiday, and we made constant trips to stores, adding new decorations to the house every week. And while I still look forward to doing all those things, over the years, I've spent less time thinking about what I'd be receiving and more about who I'd be spending those days with.

Over the years, I've spent less time thinking about what I'd be receiving and more about who I'd be spending those days with.

After losing an uncle and my grandmother during the same holiday season a few years back, I've learned to spend more time being thankful for what the year has brought me and to be more appreciative of the stories that my parents and relatives like to tell during our holiday parties. Each year, I learn something new about a family member, which has helped me learn more about myself, too. I've learned to give without expecting anything in return, that a little help to those in need goes a long way, and that baking with love makes all the difference.

I've also shifted my focus to charitable work, checking my privilege and using my free time to volunteer at homeless shelters and thrift stores with a mission, like Housing Works, and playing Santa Claus by participating in programs that send new toys to kids in need.

Now that I have a daughter, starting new traditions and continuing old ones is my main priority. I have nothing but good holiday memories, and I want the same for my daughter. Thankfully, she loves the holidays as much as I do and asks to go apple and pumpkin picking, helps me mix ingredients when I bake, puts up decorations with me, and tries to wrap presents on her own. Although, we're still working on getting that perfect picture with Santa.

As she continues to grow, I'd like for our holiday season to continue being centered on empathy. To know that we have the option of choosing not to focus on material things is a huge privilege, and it's one we have to appreciate and honor by doing good for others. Of course, it isn't enough to do good during the holidays, but hopefully the good one does builds enough momentum to find them doing good deeds well into the new year.

Burning Question: At What Temperature Is a Turkey Cooked?

No matter what kind of turkey you'll be having this year, there's one question you'll need the answer to: what temperature does a turkey need to reach in order to be considered done?

Until 2008, the USDA recommended cooking turkey to an internal temperature of 180ºF. But based on the fact that bacteria threat salmonella cannot withstand temperatures of 160ºF after 30 seconds, the FDA now suggests a minimum internal temperature of 165ºF as measured by a food thermometer in the innermost part of the thigh and wing and the thickest part of the breast.

The FDA doesn't really account for the fact that the breasts cook slower than the thighs. Turkey experts like Butterball recommend cooking the breast to 165ºF and the thigh to 180ºF. The key number is the breast temperature, so stress less about the thigh temperature (as long as it's over the 160ºF ballpark). And, if you really want the juiciest white meat possible, factor in carry-over cooking. America's Test Kitchen says to pull the bird out of the oven at 160ºF, since the residual heat from the meat will raise the temperature to 165ºF as it rests for 15-20 minutes (but no more than 30).

These Doggies Sitting on Santa's Lap Are Definitely on the Nice List!

Our dogs do a million and one things throughout the year that make us crazy - they're born troublemakers - but every dog owner knows that there's no such thing as a pupper on the Naughty List, no matter how bad they may have been. It doesn't matter if they chewed up your slippers, TPd your bathroom, peed on every carpet in the house, or jumped onto the dinner table and ate an entire plate of chicken cutlets (that one might be from personal experience); your dog is your precious, sweet, adorable little baby who can do no wrong even when they do wrong.

And based on the following ridiculously cute photos of pooches, it looks like Santa, the keeper of the Nice and Naughty Lists, would have to agree. We can't decide who's cuter in these pictures - Santa or the pups (OK, obviously the doggos).

We Have a Feeling Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Favorite Stila Lipstick Will Sell Out - Again

Update: On Tuesday, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made history as the youngest woman to be elected to Congress. Back in June, she won the Democratic primary - and impressed everyone with her bold red lipstick, which she later identified as Stila's Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso ($22).

No word yet on whether her historic win has boosted sales in the same way it did a few months ago, but if it was close to selling out before - we have a feeling it'll be flying off shelves in no time.

This story was originally published on July 7, 2018.

On June 26, 2018, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old candidate for New York's 14th Congressional District, defeated 10-term incumbent Representative Joseph Crowley. Many are calling the election a shocking political upset; if the Bronx-born Latina woman beats Republican candidate Anthony Pappas in the November midterm, she'll be the youngest woman ever elected to the House of Representatives. We're still not over the candidate's impressive victory, but Twitter added just one more reason to root for Ocasio-Cortez: her lipstick of choice. The candidate just revealed the exact lipstick shade she wore to the Democratic Primary Debate, and it's a classic power red with historical significance.

The politician took to Twitter to answer the "many inquiries" she received on her preferred color. "I GOT YOU," she wrote, adding that it's none other than Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso ($22). It's hard to not find some symbolism in the brick red shade, as suffragettes in the early 1900s wore the hue while protesting for women's right to vote. In 1912, the real-life Elizabeth Arden even handed out a similar lipstick to NYC marchers as a token of unity.

Soon after Ocasio-Cortez revealed her scoop, Beso sold out on Sephora. (It's still available at other retailers like Nordstrom and Stila's own site.) There's undoubtedly more to focus on than Ocasio-Cortez's makeup preferences - her platform supports Medicare for all, abolishing ICE, expanding LGBTQ+ rights, and creating an assault weapons ban - but it's empowering to see her repping such a storied lipstick color. Just as marching suffragettes united in the hue 106 years ago, women have responded to the original tweet in solidarity.

What Glossier's Reformulated Generation G Lipsticks Looks Like on 3 Skin Tones

Today, Glossier rereleased its Generation G lipsticks ($18) - the sheer (but buildable) matte lip colors. The cult-favorite brand has chosen to keep its original six shades but is changing aspects of the lipsticks themselves, like their texture and casing. The reformulation came in response to customer feedback that the packaging was flawed and the lipsticks were drying, according to Vogue. So the brand amped up the bullet to have an ultracreamy ("moisturizing" is the word that our team has been throwing around) formula with a more sturdy, heavyweight casing. Below are swatches on three of our editors. The shades go in the following order (from elbow to wrist): Jam (blackberry), Like (cool, light pink), Leo (cool brown), Crush (raspberry pink), Zip (bright red), and Cake (peach).

I Tried the Tatcha Primer Beauty Experts Are Loving, and It Kept My Makeup Perfect All Day

You could call me a primer enthusiast. As an editor, I'm on a never-ending quest to find the best, newest formulas that truly do what they're supposed to: fill pores, blur imperfections, and keep my makeup in place all day long. That's why I was intrigued when my friend, a fellow beauty-lover, insisted that I give the Tatcha Silk Canvas Protective Primer ($52) a try. After just one application, I became totally hooked; my other favorites are now pushed toward the back of my vanity.

This primer is quite unique; it comes in a pot instead of a bottle. The formula is a thick, balm-like consistency and you use a small disk to scrape your desired amount out of the pot. What first captured my attention was the incredible scent - the floral notes are pretty enough to be a perfume.

The velvety consistency melts into your face the moment you apply it; it's hydrating and sleek without feeling greasy. What makes it so satiny? Thin layers of silk smooth fine lines and keep you looking fresh. Even before I apply my foundation, I can see a huge improvement in my complexion.

What truly impresses me is how well this primer keeps my makeup in place; my foundation and cover-up look perfect from morning till night. I never have to reapply.

Botox Is Being Used to Preserve Your Blowout, but Does It Work?

Botox as it stands today is a lot like apple cider vinegar: people are finding new and improved ways to use it. We know that the injectable targets fine lines and crow's feet, but we've also learned it can be utilized for issues like grinding your teeth and overperspiring. Now, there's a new treatment cosmetic dermatologists are touting as "Blowtox," and it's all about scalp sweat.

It's pretty simple: Blowtox is Botox administered on the scalp to reduce sweating. It's not a new treatment - dermatologists have been administering it to the scalp for several years now, but it's resurging thanks to Instagram.

"Botox has long been FDA-approved to treat sweating in the underarm area, and the same technique can be used to reduce sweating anywhere on the body. For example, under the breasts, in the groin, on the face, scalp, etc.," said Dr. Nancy Samolitis, cofounder of Facile Dermatology + Boutiques in Los Angeles. (In the groin? Grotox, anyone?)

Nobody needs an explanation as to why you might not want your head to be sweaty, but alas, "Blowtox" refers to extending the life of a professional blowout for people who enjoy exercising. If you avoid doing your hair because you know you'll sweat it into a gross, stringy mess while working on your fitness, Blowtox could be worth looking into. Samolitis says it's also safe.

"Botox is safe to use in any patient who is [considered] a good candidate and doesn't have certain chronic neurological conditions," she said. "Injecting the scalp, specifically, doesn't incur any additional risks. In fact, some of the injection points are similar to those used to treat migraines."

When it comes to units, Samolitis says she begins with 100 units, although it varies per client. (To compare, she said up to 200 units are used in other areas of the body for sweating.) You can expect it to take a week to kick in, and it can reduce scalp sweat by 80 percent. It lasts four to six months, but again, it depends on your lifestyle and how active you are.

One common question when it comes to using Botox for perspiring focuses on compensation sweating: if you take away your ability to sweat in one area, will your sweat glands work overtime in another? Samolitis reassured us this is not the case. "The phenomenon of compensatory sweating usually occurs after the surgical procedure that used to be more common for treating chronic sweating. It is not typically reported after treatment with Botox," she said.

How much will Blowtox set you back? At Facile, a dry head of hair starts at $1,200.
