If You Want the Best Night's Sleep (Every Night!), You Need These 3 Pillows

In order to have a good night of sleep, all the stars need to be aligned. I need to have exercised that day in order to be tired enough. I need to have stopped drinking coffee by noon. I need the kids to be asleep so I don't have one of them tiptoeing into my room and whispering two inches from my face that they're scared, or thirsty, or that they drew a picture of a rainbow for me at school (amazingly sweet, but not at 10 p.m. when we should both be asleep).

I need darkness, quiet, the perfect temperature, two lovies in my hands (pink and blue) that my kids no longer snuggle with, and these three pillows. Yeah I know. I'm high maintenance when it comes to sleep, but forget everything else and give me my three pillows and I'm good. Ever since I started sleeping with this trifecta of cozy comfort, it's changed my life. If you struggle with sleep, these three pillows could be your ticket to slumbertown.

Why I Stop Caring About Monitoring My Kids' Screen Time During the Holidays

I've been known to be a little controlling about my kids' screen time. We don't own tablets (not even my husband and I), we don't have cable, and my kids don't own any gaming devices. I'm old school regarding technology and very proud of it. But during the holidays, I throw all of those rules out the window. A huge part of the holiday season is relaxing and spending time together as a family, which sometimes means lounging around the TV for long stretches of time. So, if that means my kids get an unlimited amount of screen time during the holiday months, so be it. I don't beat myself up over it.

One of my favorite things during the holidays as a child was sitting in the family room with my parents and three rowdy brothers. We'd watch tons of Christmas movies, eat holiday cookies, and just be together. Those memories are so special, which is why I forget about my strict rules for a little bit to do the same with my own kids. No, I don't let them watch TV all day and not interact with anyone, but I let their bodies and minds relax. And since we're stuck inside a lot of the time due to cold weather, screen time gives me a break, too. I don't feel the need to think of indoor activities or make sure they're stimulated and learning 24/7. Christmas movies marathons are just fine.

Last year, we loved watching Elf, A Christmas Story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and more together. We hunkered down in our pajamas, passed around the popcorn and cookies, and watched the classic Christmas tales unfold in front of us. My kids couldn't contain their laughter when Will Ferrell inhaled spaghetti mixed with syrup and candy, which made my husband and me burst out laughing, too. So while my kids were engulfed in a screen, we were also making precious family memories. And it's so worth it every year.

And if we head to one of our relatives' houses for the holiday, I let my kids watch movies there, too. Nobody sits hovered over their own screens. We make sure that individual devices are put away, and we all enjoy something together. It's fun watching a movie with the family when the ages range between 4 and 83. When a grandfather and his granddaughter can laugh hysterically at the same Christmas joke, then the TV can be on all day long for all I care. These years with my kids and my parents are precious, and if movies are the thing that helps them create priceless memories, I'm all for it.

Sometimes I forget that movies and television help create some of the best family moments and memories, both during the holidays and after. It's the togetherness of the screen time that truly matters. Well, that and the 6-foot elf in green tights running around New York City.

These "Wine Wands" Promise to Stop Your Hangovers, So We Put 'em to the Test

Hello, my name is Murphy, and I really love wine. Whether it's a glass of Pinot Nior, Sauvignon Blanc, or even a little Rosé in the Summer months, there's no doubt that wine's one of my favorite ways to kick back and relax after a long week. The only issue with my hobby? As I get older, the headaches that come with a glass or two of red have really started to set me back the following morning. To sum up: I get tired. I get cranky. I need Advil.

On the heels of one such occasion, I got a blowout with my friend Emily who works in public relations, and after hearing me complain about how my body has begun to fail me at the ripe age of 26, she offered me a unique opportunity: to try out The Wand by PureWine ($20 for 8 wands). According to the packaging, it's a nifty little invention that takes the histamines and sulfite preservatives - aka the substances that make you feel crummy in the morning - out of your glass of vino.

After getting a sample from Emily, I gave the Wine Wands a whirl (literally) while hanging out at home on a Saturday night. I had Precana - when you go to your Catholic church and talk about getting married for eight hours - the following morning, so this product really needed to work. After all, there's nothing that takes the wind out of your sails quite like being hungover in church.

Please Watch This Heartachingly Adorable Holiday Commercial About a Family of Bears

What about an animated bear could inspire so much emotion? If Paddington or Christopher Robin taught us anything, that's a loaded question. London's Heathrow Airport recently released its annual holiday commercial, which sees the grandparent bears (ahem, grandbearents) enjoying their retirement in Florida, but missing their family across the pond. After a rather sad montage involving frozen turkey dinners, the two make a spontaneous decision that will leave you in tears. Watch it above and prepare for waterworks accordingly.

When You Decide Your Special Needs Baby Has to Be Your Last Baby

I'd always wanted two kids. I was raised as an only child, and my husband was one of four. For us, one seemed like too few, and four seemed like too many; two was the perfect number. We fell in love when I was 28, but we didn't have our first baby until I was 37. Even though I felt like we were just getting started when it came to expanding our family, my healthcare providers reminded me all the way through my first pregnancy that I was of "advanced maternal age." I knew if we were going to have a second baby, we'd have no time to waste.

When our first daughter was 9 months old, we decided to start trying again. We agreed not to wait, as the risk of having a special needs child would only increase as I got older. And three weeks before I turned 39, I was pregnant again. Our plan was working out perfectly. I somehow decided that since we conceived before my 40th birthday, we would be in the clear and have two healthy children close in age. When people asked if I wanted a girl or a boy, I borrowed a line I'd heard so often: "I don't care, as long as the baby's healthy. That's all that matters." But when the baby - a girl - was born with pontocerebellar hypoplasia type 2, a severe neurological disorder, everything changed.

I got excited about the prospect of another baby. I loved being pregnant. But when [our second child] - a girl - was born with a severe neurological disorder, everything changed.

It took 14 months for her to be diagnosed, and even then we weren't sure what her prognosis would be. Neurology is tricky; I learned that the brain can grow and adapt well in some circumstances, but there can be regression and atrophy in others. We had no clear indication of what would happen. Only time would tell. But we worried that our little girl might need ongoing care for the rest of her life. And our thoughts also turned to her big sister. Would it be a burden for her to be the only neurotypical sibling of a person with a significant disability? What if they didn't get along? What if she didn't take her charge seriously, should that ball end up in her court once her dad and I are gone? What would happen to our daughter with the disability? What if our neurotypical daughter had to care for us in our old age as well? Should we consider having another child so that when they grew up, the two could share all of this responsibility?

I'll admit that I got excited about the prospect of another baby. I loved being pregnant. I loved going through childbirth and having a new baby to meet. But my husband wasn't as excited. He felt that given our situation, three would be too many. And the more we discussed it, the more I realized the idea of doing it all over again was daunting for me, too; I would be 40 years old with a newborn, two kids under the age of 3 - one with severe special needs - and a full-time job. I checked my baby fever and came back to how I'd always wanted two. But I still felt like it might be the right decision for our children. I felt stuck.

I talked to a friend about it, who tragically lost her sister when she was growing up. She told me that, in her opinion, the right reason to have a child is because you truly want one, not because you think it will benefit anyone else. "Don't have another baby to protect either of your girls," she said. "You really have no idea how anything will turn out for either of them. Have a baby if you want one, and only if you want one."

Around this time, as part of the diagnosis and treatment process for our younger daughter, we went through extensive and expensive genetic testing. Our neurologist suspected that her disorder was caused by some genetic variant one or both of us were carrying, but the whole exome sequencing turned up nothing. That planted a seed of possibility in our heads that if we were to have another child, that child might have the same issue.

In the end, we decided not to try for a third and focus all our efforts on the children we already had. It was sad to grieve the loss of the dream of a third baby, but I knew I had to let go of all the things I thought should happen and just focus on raising our two daughters the best way we knew how.

Once I stopped trying to control everything, I realized that things were falling together beautifully anyway. Our girls are 16 months apart. The older one has developed a sense of compassion and concern that I firmly believe she would not have had her sister developed typically. And despite (or maybe because of) their differences, they're extremely close. When I catch myself feeling exasperated because I can't get them to stop squabbling about something minor, I remember how I promised myself I'd be overjoyed if the little one grew to be cognitively typical enough to fight back against her big sister. We might not have two typical kids, but we definitely have two typical siblings. And for us, two really was the perfect number.

This Is What It's Like to Parent When You Don't Live Near Your Family

"Want to grab a coffee? My mom's watching the kids!" My friend's early morning text reminds me that, unlike pretty much every other parent I know, I don't have family nearby. It's a fact I'm acutely aware of every time there's a large gathering, like back-to-school night. My kids are hanging on me as we head into the classroom. Where are the other parents' broods? "At their grandparents' houses," my kids inevitably say. And for things like Halloween, the aunts, uncles, and cousins on our block get all dressed up to trick-or-treat with their extended families. And then there's us - just me, my husband, and our four kids. Of course, we're a big family on our own, but it can still get lonely since all of our immediate family members are states away.

My mom is just a quick phone call away, but it's not the same as her being able to come over and [help me]. Sometimes I get sad that my family is so far away, and there are days I would give anything to have my mom close.

Loneliness aside, I can't help but feel envious of my mom friends who get so much help from their parents and siblings. One of my neighbors, who lives within walking distance of her in-laws, her parents, and her brother and sister-in-law, trades off with everyone on taking the kids to school. Another neighbor's entire extended family lives in town and they're always coming over to help with projects around the house. Many of my other mom friends can easily call on grandparents or other family members to babysit, move furniture, pick up milk, or watch the kiddos so they can run a quick errand.

Even when friends' families don't live super close, they typically reside at least in the same state, but that's not how it is for us. My parents are a seven-hour drive away, and they're still hours closer to us than my siblings. My husband's parents and siblings also live about seven hours from us, so it definitely takes planning for us to get together.

My mom is just a quick phone call away, of course, and I do seek her advice often on parenting issues big and small. "Do you think I need to call the pediatrician?" "What is the right height to hang a kitchen chandelier?" But it's not the same as her being able to come over and feel my kid's head for a fever, eyeball the light fixture herself, or just make me a cup of tea and hug me when I need to vent. Sometimes I get sad that my family is so far away, and there are days I would give anything to have my mom close. Honestly, though, I've gotten really used to doing things on my own.

The upside of parenting with no help from family is the sense of satisfaction I get when I pull off the tricky balancing act that is my life with four kids alone. If I can make dinner while breastfeeding, after taking the other kids to swim practice and Girl Scouts, then help with homework and get four kids bathed - all before my husband gets home from work, might I add - then damn, I'm awesome! I also count myself lucky when my mom friends complain about how their in-laws have no sense of boundaries. I definitely don't have to contend with that issue too often.

Still, there are times I have to say "no" to things because I don't have the help I'd need. When my husband's out of town, we simply won't be able to make the art night at school because it's past the baby's bedtime and I can't find a babysitter. And sometimes I wish I could get a break and just get that morning coffee with a friend without my baby in tow. But I love where I live and have no plans to move to be closer to family. It's a trade-off parenting sans help from grandparents, but it sure makes getting us all together super special every time!

8 Adorable Ways to Announce Your Pregnancy in the Winter

Most people aren't the human equivalents of sunshine and rainbows in the Winter beyond the December holidays - come March, they're cold, they haven't seen the sun in months, and they've shoveled enough snow for a lifetime. If you're looking for a fun way to announce your pregnancy in the dreary, cold Winter months, you have the unique opportunity to warm up your family and friends' feeds with your sweet news.

If you find yourself ready to share your pregnancy between December and March, here are eight adorable ideas that are holiday-, cold-weather, or Valentine's Day-themed to inspire your own announcement (or copy one of these, we won't tell!).

This Year, I'm Saying No to Black Friday

This year, I'm saying no to Black Friday, and I encourage other parents who are tired of it to join me. Say no to rushing through your Thanksgiving meal and bolting from the dinner table, so you can rush to stores that are open crazy late or mind-numbingly early, all so you can save a few bucks on this year's hottest toys. Say no to long lines, rude shoppers, and sometimes-hostile store employees (but who could blame them?). Just say no.

I've never gotten why anyone would willingly (and even love to) participate. In years past, I've see friends posting on social media about braving bad weather and pushy parents at crowded malls, from the comfort of my sofa, wine in hand. While some later celebrate the awesome gifts they were able to snag for less (sometime around 3 a.m.), more often than not, tales of Black Fridays gone wrong inevitably emerge. This store didn't honor this deal, they ran out of Fortnite the Musical video games, or someone witnessed two parents fighting over the very last punch-me-in-the-face Mickey doll. While I'm a deal-lover too, I know I'm not cut out for that and would much rather dig for Cyber Monday deals online in exchange for my sanity.

The ridiculous competition for stuff can also literally take away from the parents who genuinely rely on Black Friday in order to give their kids a nice holiday. And when did the season, especially the time around Thanksgiving, become more focused on nabbing the biggest TV than being thankful for what you have and thinking of the needs of others?

All of this is why I'm abstaining from Black Friday again this year. If you need me, I'll be snuggled up with my kiddos in front of a movie, indulging in a little more pumpkin pie than usual, and charging my computer for Cyber Monday so that I can shop in my pajamas.

Parents, Please Don't Give Your Kids a Puppy on Christmas Morning

Nothing compares to watching the excitement on your kids' faces when they open their gifts on Christmas morning. They eagerly rip open the boxes and their eyes instantly light up when they see that Santa has brought them the thing they've wanted more than anything. And for some on Christmas morning, that means a puppy. Those lovable creatures, with their floppy ears and giant feet, are a guaranteed hit. I mean, who wouldn't want a puppy? They're a great addition to any family. But just because everyone loves them doesn't mean they should be given as gifts. Keep reading for why you shouldn't give a puppy as a gift on Christmas morning, and how to safely bring one home if you do get one during the holiday season.

1. Christmas Is Too Overwhelming

Christmas is a notoriously hectic day. From opening gifts to cooking to having family over or going to someone else's house, Christmas just isn't the time to introduce a tiny puppy into your home and family. Kids, especially little kids, can also get emotional, scream, or grab at the puppy, which could scare them. This is especially true if your new pet isn't house trained yet. Getting a new animal on Christmas will add a whole new level of stress for you and for the puppy.

Dog expert Cesar Millan points out: "You've just thrown [them] into a completely alien environment with no direction, and these early associations are going to stick. The place is unfamiliar, it smells different, and there doesn't seem to be any way out." Unless you're going to stop the whole Christmas gift-giving process and devote your whole day to the dog, chances are you're going to really stress out your new pup.

2. Pets Are Family Members

Living, breathing creatures like puppies and kittens aren't toys - they're new members of the family that will require love and attention for the next 9 to 15 years. Puppies should require a great amount of thought and preparation. They need a fleet of supplies, from crates and beds to food and toys, and they need the time and space to acclimate to their new things and home.

3. Children Might Want to Have a Say

When I've adopted animals in the past, the shelter workers always ask if every member of the family is present and OK with the adoption of a pet. One shelter wouldn't even let me adopt my pup until I brought my roommate in to confirm that she was on board. Largely, this process should hold true for kids. If you're expecting children to love and take care of a puppy for the next decade at least, they should have some say in which puppy they get, otherwise this is just a gift for you, and that's not the way gifts work.

4. Instead, Plan a Family Trip

That being said, you can still "give a puppy" for Christmas. Instead of putting a puppy in a box or stocking, give your kid the puppy toys, the crate, or a leash. Explain to them what this gift means, and that they'll be able to help pick out and rescue their new pet. They'll feel more invested in the process because they get to help. As part of your gift, pick a day as a family to go look at puppies, and after Christmas has died down, come up with a plan. This way, your family is happy and prepared, and a puppy has the best shot at adjusting to their new home and family with ease.

25 Hysterical Holiday Card Photo Fails That Probably Look Just Like Yours

You picked out the matching pajamas or outfits, you've got Santa hats, bows, and reindeer ear accessories, and you even set up your Christmas decorations early and wrapped some presents to set the scene. You're all ready for your family's holiday card photo, but you'll be damned if your kids ever will be. Although the thought of a polished family photo is one most parents dream of, and at one point in their parenting life may even truly believe is attainable, we all know it's a lot more complicated than that; it's nearly impossible to make kids be merry on command.

Whether their kids freaked out on Santa's lap, refused to be happy in clothes that matched their siblings, or just straight-up felt like crying hysterically at absolutely nothing, the following parents admitted defeat and sent their yearly cards out featuring less-than-perfect photos of them and their grumpy kids - and we 100 percent support this for their sanity and our laughs.

Everyone's always raving about chicken soup this and chicken soup that, but you know what doesn't get enough love? Turkey soup. Turkey is just as versatile as chicken and just as delicious and good for you. I especially love using turkey in my chili because it changes the flavor subtly enough to be different from a beef chili.

A turkey soup is also a great idea for after a holiday like Thanksgiving when you inevitably have leftover turkey from the big meal and don't know how to get rid of it. My brothers always opted for the classic turkey sandwich, but a hearty turkey and vegetable soup is my new go-to. You can do the same by choosing any of these 15 soup recipes. And the best part? They can all be thrown together in your Instant Pot!

When Starburst released an all-pink bag of its fruit chews last year, we thought we'd reached the peak of candy heaven. A $20 Cheese Advent Calendar Is Coming to Target, 'Cause Dreams Really Do Come True

Ladies and gentlemen, I have a very crucial and potentially life-changing announcement to make, so please brace yourselves. To celebrate the upcoming holiday season, Target will be selling - drumroll, please - a cheese Advent calendar! And as if that news alone wasn't incredible enough, we're delighted to inform you that it's only going to cost $20. [Insert corny quote about dreams coming true here.]

This gloriously cheesy creation is the brainchild of Annem Hobson, the British blogger behind So Wrong It's Nom. Last year, her cheese Advent calendar went wildly viral, but it was only sold at stores in the UK, much to the chagrin of cheddar addicts on the other side of the pond. Due to the calendar's popularity and a high demand of requests from around the globe, Annem worked with Norseland, a cheese manufacturer in England, to bring it stateside. This woman is truly out here doing the Lord's work, and we're forever indebted to her.

The forthcoming calendar will feature 24 individually wrapped pieces of cheese from brands like Jarlsberg, Applewood, and Ilchester and will hit shelves at 247 Target stores around the US in November. Check out a few pictures of the cheese-filled Advent calendar ahead, then do yourself a favor and locate a mop to clean up that puddle of drool that just formed on your lap.

Sally Hansen's New Crayola Line Is Like a Box of Glittery Crayons For Your Nails

Remember the days when showing up to school with the 64-pack of crayons made you feel on top of the world? You may be far past the age of ever having that kind of satisfaction again, but if you're in the mood to feel like a kid again, Sally Hansen is here to help. The brand teamed up with Crayola to add 12 new, metallic colors to its Insta-Dri nail polish collection, so now you can wear some of your favorite crayon colors on your fingertips.

Like 2017's Back to School Collection that the two brands first collaborated on, each shade in the Sally Hansen x Crayola Glam Rock range, as it's called, is inspired by a classic crayon color from the glitter pack. That means that customers interested in purchasing any of the 12 shades will find colors like Razzmic Berry, a shimmery, blue-tinged raspberry color, Big Dip O'Ruby, a sparkly red, and Metallic Seaweed, a shiny teal hue, among others. The Insta-Dri Glam Rock collection is available to shop in drugstores nationwide at $4.99 a bottle, and will be available on Amazon at the end of November. Scroll ahead to see all the gleaming colors.

Frank Body Now Has a Green Tea Scrub, and It's Selling Out Fast

Frank Body just released its Green Tease Green Tea Scrub ($20), and I, like many of Frank Body's followers, was excited to see a green-tea-based body scrub come from the brand - if you're not familiar, the brand is well-known for its scrubs made from coffee, with one even garnering a 90,000-person wait list.

I couldn't wait to test it, so as soon as I got the package, I lit some candles and hopped in the shower with it (don't worry, the pouch is totally waterproof). I began scooping handfuls and spreading it across my body, from my neck to my feet. The scrub is a gritty mixture of hydrating oils (coffee seed, avocado, and ginger root), sugar, roasted robusta grounds (which smooth and firm skin), and green tea leaves (which fight off free radicals). When I turned on the water, the crystals began to melt into a lightweight, slippery, ultracomforting oil blend that slicked across my body. It slipped off with ease and left my skin incredibly soft, without any residue.

Out of all of Frank Body's scrubs, this one is my favorite by far. Yes, it beats out the shimmer scrub (the one with the massive wait list) and even the brand's OG coffee scrub. It made my skin look incomparably brighter and tighter and left it with just the right amount of moisture. It smelled completely different from past scrubs - very earthy, but sweet like honey - which was calming.

Frank Body is predicting the scrub will sell out within the week, noting that the waiting list, which opened on Monday, had garnered over 5,000 sign-ups and that the launch is "extremely limited." But don't worry if it sells out before you nab your package - it will be launching at Ulta Beauty on Nov. 11.

These Are Meghan Markle's Best Beauty Looks From 2018 - There Are Plenty

Meghan Markle might be new to royal life, but she's certainly not a beginner when it comes to her regal take on beauty. She's easily (and quickly) mastered the royal blow out and is a pro at elegant makeup, just like sister-in-law Kate Middleton.

Since joining the royal family, she hasn't been seen sporting a bold red lip, but she has cleverly played around with her look in other ways. The duchess has always been focused on a glowing and dewy complexion, opting not to cover her freckles, but adding an understated shimmer to her lips and eyes for a little more glam.

As for hair, the duchess has been a little more adventurous and adapted her look since becoming a royal. We can't forget her famous messy bun during the first months of her engagement to Prince Harry, which has since transitioned into relaxed but elegant styles for formal occasions. She's played with straight hair, natural waves, a polished ponytail, flowers in her hair on the royal tour, and Hollywood-style waves.

We've rounded up some of our favorites, out of a very, very wide selection. Ahead are some of Meghan Markle's best beauty looks of the year so far.

Here's How to Resemble a Beautiful Glazed Doughnut Like Ariana in Her "Breathin" Video

Ariana Grande is doing things. She's releasing more songs than our souls can keep up with and teaching us to take a breath with her new song "Breathin." All with a snatched (but painful) ponytail and highlighter that can be seen from outer space. So, when we learned the highlighter she was wearing in her new music video, you better believe it was on our faces in 2.5 seconds.

Grande's makeup artist Rokael Lizama used two products to create her ethereal glow. First up was Iconic London's Illuminator ($43), which "can be added to your foundation, primer or moisturizer, or simply used on its own for a super highlighted luminosity," and to add extra intensity to the look, Lizama spritzed Iconic London's Prep-Set-Glow ($30), which can also be used to "prep the skin before applying make-up, set a finished look or add a radiant glow to a bare face." Get a closer look ahead at Grande's beautiful and elegant glazed doughnut glow.
