Yes, That Really Happened - The Walking Dead Finally Gave Rick and Michonne a Baby
Warning! Spoilers for the latest episode of The Walking Dead ahead.
We finally see how The Walking Dead's universe moves on after the "death" of Rick Grimes, and it's a lot to take in. There are new faces along with the old and dangers still lurking around every corner. But perhaps the most heartwarming surprise is the reveal that Rick's wish to grow his little family with Michonne has come true - the two now share a 5-year-old son named Rick Jr. (also known as RJ).
RJ's existence is revealed near the end of the episode, after we get a look at the drastic changes the communities have gone through during the past six years. We witness Michonne in her new role as the leader of Alexandria's security and how she's understandably wary of the new survivors that Judith brings to the community. After discussing the newcomers with the rest of the council during the community-wide meeting, Michonne retreats to her home for the night, where her thoughts are interrupted by a little boy who runs to her, calling her "Mommy." Cue Richonne fans instantly combusting.
There is a lot to unpack surrounding Michonne and what she's been up to these last few years - especially after seeing that huge X-shaped scar on her back - but the discovery that she and Rick were actually able to make good on their desire to become parents is too bittersweet to ignore. According to showrunner Angela Kang, the idea that the two would have a child was "a sign of hopefulness."
"We wanted to show that Rick and Michonne were committed to each other, fully," Kang told The Hollywood Reporter. "It seemed like a sign of their commitment, and their optimism for the future. They believed they could bring a new child into this world and they could make the world better for that child."
The attitude is a noticeable difference from how Lori and Rick reacted when they discovered she was pregnant with Judith. But that makes complete sense since the survivors were nowhere near as established as they are now in Alexandria. "Michonne and Rick lived in a very different time, and we wanted to show that," Kang explained. "It was a fun process for us, imagining what a world with more children would look like, but also the tragedy that Rick never got to meet this child they were so excited about."
That juxtaposition is definitely obvious in "Who Are You Now?" The episode highlights how Michonne is still living with her grief while raising her children and keeping them safe. Much like Rick did after Lori's death, Michonne finds herself talking to his ghost even though she knows he won't respond. Judith seems used to hearing her mother talk to ghosts but is relatively well-adjusted considering the circumstances. When RJ interrupts his mother, she is very obviously happy to see him, but his father never leaves her thoughts - which is alluded to by the small toy sheriff she keeps that looks just like Rick.
Kang has teased that we'll be getting flashbacks of what transpired during the six-year jump, so hopefully that means we'll be able to see more of Michonne's journey as a mother of two. Until then, take a trip down memory lane and keep scrolling to see photos of the Grimes family when they began anew, way back in season three.
Why Outlander Cut These Gruesome - and Funny - Scenes From the Books in Season 4
The fourth season of Starz's Outlander pushes Claire and Jamie further into uncharted territory in colonial America and offers a chance to meet several new characters. Some of them, like the nefarious pirate Stephen Bonnet, cannot be trusted. Some, like Jamie's Aunt Jocasta, are trying to keep the peace as best they can in this new land and new set of rules. Some, like Rollo the dog, are just plain adorable.
And then there's John Quincy Myers. First introduced in season four's second episode, "Do No Harm," the character is played by Welsh actor Kyle Rees. He's a jovial, hairy delight who can both educate the new Americans on the proper way to respect the Cherokee tribespeople who already call this land home and serve as another mentor to Jamie's nephew Ian (John Bell), who must be aching to talk to someone who isn't a relative by now. Later, he'll be integral to solving a mystery that unites the two communities.
But if Myers seems a little, well, uncouth, in this series, you can trust that he's much more blatant in the books. Described by author Diana Gabaldon in Outlander book Drums of Autumn as having "loose snaky black locks" for hair with a broad smile that's "nonetheless charming for missing half its teeth," he wastes zero time propositioning Claire - not for sex, mind you, but for her to look at his inguinal hernia. He nearly removes his pants right there on the streets of Wilmington before Jamie stops him! Myers later makes the party that Jocasta throws in Jamie and Claire's honor even more memorable by drunkenly insisting she operate on him right this minute (Claire obliges; spreading her patient out on the table in Jocasta's salon and using brandy to sterilize the area, causing several lice to flee).
While that scene didn't make it into this episode, it's likely Rees has seen worse. The actor has made a habit of appearing in period dramas. He was in FX's dark and gory The Bastard Executioner, which is set in 14th-century Wales, and TNT's considerably more PG-rated Will, which was about Shakespeare's early days in London. He was also in the LGBTQ-positive film Pride, although that project was set several decades after the advent of penicillin.
This Crazy Reddit Theory Suggests Nagini Is Voldemort's Mother, and We're Freaking Out
Are you sitting down? Just before the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, we've stumbled upon a wild new theory courtesy of our favorite corner of the internet, Reddit. Now, as you know, the new Fantastic Beasts film will have connected threads to the Harry Potter books, even moreso than before. We're going to be a seeing young Minerva McGonagall, as well as a young and maybe slightly gay Dumbledore. But perhaps even more titillating is the mystery surrounding one of the books' great villains: Nagini.
Recently, we learned that not only would we meet the woman who will become Nagini, but we'll also get more information about her origin story. Like, for instance, the fact that she's a Maledictus. But here's where things get really interesting. According to Reddit user soupycutie, there's a lot of evidence to suggest that Nagini may be more than just Voldemort's future horcrux and snake companion. She might be his mother.
There are a few reasons why this may be so. For one, the movie takes place right around the time of Voldemort's birth. Like, within weeks of his birthday! There's also the fact that, in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, there's an interesting fact about Voldemort's mother. Mrs. Cole, who housed Tom Marvolo Riddle in her orphanage once upon a time, said those in charge wondered whether the woman had come from a circus. Just coincidence, or a decades-long secret that is about to have a huge payoff?
There are other threads as well: the fact that Nagini seems to have a very maternal relationship with Voldemort in the books, so much so that she even nursed him to health when he was in the process of being reborn. The theory even uses this as a way of justifying Voldemort's snake-like appearance. Perhaps he's just a chip off the old block. All of it's lining up, right?
As with any good theory, there are a few points of contention. For one, the actress who plays Nagini (Claudia Kim) is of Asian decent, and based solely on Tom Riddle's looks in the movies, he may not be half Asian. But that seems a bit like splitting hairs, doesn't it? Fellow Reddit users bubbled up other complaints: that Merope Gaunt (that's the name of Voldemort's mother in the book) likely wouldn't have joined the circus until after giving birth to Tom, and the movie is set in the weeks before. Then there's the fact that Mrs. Cole likely witnessed Merope's death, but hey, who knows?
Here's the theory in full for you to parse out yourself. For the record, though, plot inconsistencies do not outright nullify a theory. After all, according to the books, Minerva McGonagall's birthday is in 1935, so it's hard to figure out how she'll appear in a movie that's set to take place in 1926. Time can be a funny thing, though, can't it? We're not sure what to believe anymore.

Praise Santa! A Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Holiday Special Is on the Way
Now that you've hopefully gotten well-acquainted with Sabrina, Ambrose, Harvey, Miss Wardwell, and the rest of the gang on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, it's time to share some good news: a holiday special of the dark and twisted Netflix series is coming soon!
Thanks to the streaming giant's new push for holiday content, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: A Midwinter's Tale will debut on Dec. 14, promising plenty more hidden horror movie references, sarcastic one-liners courtesy of Aunt Zelda, and more. According to a press release from Netflix, the episode is described as such:
"The Church of Night, like all covens, celebrates the Winter Solstice - the longest night of the year - when families gather around the Yule Fire to sing pagan carols and tell ghost stories. But the holidays are also a time for guests and visitors - both welcome and unwelcome - you never know what might come down the chimney . . ."
In other words, we have a few things to look forward to, chief among them being original (and likely very creepy) carols sung by the cast and perhaps some more clues as to how Miss Wardwell's nefarious plans for Sabrina will solidify (we have a feeling she'll be giving Sabrina something much more sinister than socks this Christmas). Until the episode finally arrives, you can feast of feasts your eyes on this holiday card shared by showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, which sees Sabrina and Harvey in much better spirits than they are in the season one finale.

The Real Reason Michael B. Jordan Was on Nicki Minaj's Mind at the People's Choice Awards
Nicki Minaj took home the award for female artist of the year at the E! People's Choice Awards on Sunday night, but the rapper was apparently looking to take home a lot more than that. During her acceptance speech, Nicki thanked her team and her fans, but she decided to spice things up by getting a little - no, very - flirty with one of Hollywood's finest: Michael B. Jordan. "Shout-out to Donatella Versace for custom-making this outfit for me," she said. "And shout-out to Michael B. Jordan 'cause he's going to be taking it off of me tonight." Whoa!
Following the ceremony, Nicki explained her comment to E!'s Jason Kennedy after he asked if she and Michael were good friends. "No, I think he introduced himself to me one time, I believe at the Met Gala," Nicki responded before revealing the real reason why the actor was on her mind during the show. See what Nicki had to say in the video above before checking out some of the best Twitter reactions to her flirty comment ahead.

American Horror Story: If This Is True, Michael Isn't the Antichrist and We've All Been HAD
As American Horror Story: Apocalypse nears its conclusion, it seems like we're finally going to get the confrontation we've been waiting all season for: the showdown between the last witches defending humanity and Michael Langdon, the powerful Antichrist. We've been assuming, since way back on Murder House, that Michael is indeed the Antichrist, born of a human woman and a ghost father. But what if we've had it wrong from the very beginning?
Reddit user zy-cray thinks so, at least. Digging deeper into the apocalyptic mythology that the season seems to be based on, this theory suggests that Michael is not, and never has been, the Antichrist. In the Bible, the Antichrist is harder to differentiate as evil at first; the whole point of his existence is that he is similar enough to the real Christ that many people believe he is the second coming of Christ. Michael, on the other hand, has been evil from day one: in his first appearance as a toddler on Murder House, he commits murder. The Antichrist is also supposed to be born of a wicked mother, and Vivien Harmon, though not exactly a saint, was a decent person. It's possible that Michael is just an evil, powerful warlock - maybe even the Alpha - who is preparing the way for the true Antichrist.
If Michael isn't the Antichrist, then who is? The Reddit-user's guess might surprise you: Mallory, the witch who has, up til now, been the only entity capable of pushing back against Michael's work. She's been painted as a savior throughout the season, a Christ-like figure if you will, making her a perfect candidate for the true definition of the Antichrist. And her name is etymologically related to "mal," the root word that means "evil" or "unlucky." If this is true, then kudos to American Horror Story for building up the world's longest-running red herring!
The Queen Ordered Charles and Diana's Divorce and More Dramatic Details You Didn't Know

The relationship between Prince Charles and Princess Diana was tumultuous, to say the least; they met after Charles first dated Diana's older sister, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, and only went on 12 dates before getting engaged in February 1981 and tying the knot five months later. By late 1992 (after collective affairs and embarrassing leaked audio conversations), Charles and Diana's 11-year marriage was a disaster - and the royal family couldn't hide it anymore.
Charles's parents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, met with the couple for an intervention of sorts. Philip and Diana exchanged heartfelt letters that Summer in which he expressed his disappointment at both her and Charles's extramarital affairs and asked her to see both of their slip-ups from the other's point of view; at one point he seemed ready to give up, writing, "I will always do my utmost to help you and Charles to the best of my ability. . . but I am quite ready to concede that I have no talent as a marriage counselor." Their attempts at reconciliation were unsuccessful, and that December, Prime Minister John Major publicly announced the pair's "amicable separation," reading an official statement from the royal family.

After their separation, more rumors of cheating emerged, and Diana conducted a tell-all interview with the BBC's Martin Bashir in which she disclosed details about her own infidelity and struggle with bulimia as well as Charles's affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, making the famous quote, "There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded." Ultimately, Elizabeth gave up too - likely fed up with doing damage control for Charles and Diana's cheating scandals and the blowback from Diana broadcasting their business, she sprung into action. On Dec. 20, 1995, Buckingham Palace announced that the queen had written separate letters to the couple ordering them to divorce ASAP, an unprecedented move at the time. "After considering the present situation, the queen wrote to both the prince and princess earlier this week and gave them her view, supported by the Duke of Edinburgh, that an early divorce is desirable," a palace statement said. It added that both Elizabeth and Philip would "continue to do all they can to help and support the Prince and Princess of Wales, and most particularly their children, in this difficult period." Charles agreed formally in writing soon after, but it took Diana until February to announce her agreement after negotiations with Charles and representatives for Elizabeth and until July for the couple to agree on the terms of their divorce.
Queen Elizabeth reportedly wanted to let Diana keep the style of her royal highness, but Charles was "adamant" that she give it up.
Their divorce was finalized in August 1996, but some drama surrounding her title ensued. Queen Elizabeth reportedly wanted to let Diana keep the style of her royal highness, but Charles was "adamant" that she give it up - instead, she was given the title Diana, Princess of Wales. The loss of the honorific separated Diana from the rest of the family in such a way that she had to curtsy to those that had it, including her own children. Heartbreakingly, a 14-year-old Prince William is said to have comforted his mother after the loss of her title by saying, "Don't worry, Mummy, I will give it back to you one day when I am king."

Diana was allowed to keep her apartment at Kensington Palace - which now serves as the official residence of William, Kate Middleton, and their two children - as "a central and secure home for The Princess and the children." She was given access to the royal family's jets and was able "to use the state apartments at St. James's Palace for entertaining," as long as asked the queen's permission first. She was also permitted to keep all the jewelry she amassed during her marriage, with the exception of the Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara, which Elizabeth gave to her as a wedding present after only wearing it once. It was lent to Kate Middleton in both 2015 and 2016.
Buckingham Palace publicly stated that as the mother of heirs to the throne, Diana would continue to be regarded as a member of the royal family and "will from time to time receive invitations to state and national public occasions" at the invitation "of the sovereign or the Government." She and Charles were granted equal access to Prince William and Prince Harry, who were 14 and 11 at the time, respectively, and the boys alternated holidays with each of their parents when they weren't attending boarding school. Things seemed to be civil between Charles and Diana as they worked together to coparent their boys after the divorce and up until Diana's death in August 1997. During an inquest into the tragedy in January 2007, Deputy Coroner of the Queen's Household Baroness Butler-Sloss said, "I am satisfied that at her death, Diana Princess of Wales continued to be considered as a member of the Royal Household."
Kelly McCreary Talks THAT Major Reveal and the Future of Jackson and Maggie on Grey's
To say that Jackson and Maggie have had a hard road on Grey's Anatomy would be an understatement. After all, they managed to survive Jackson's crumbling marriage with April, the fact that he up and ghosted (right after saying "I love you" to Maggie!), and his sudden spiritual awakening. Now, Maggie is facing something even more difficult: opening up to Jackson and letting him open up to her in return. In the season's seventh episode, which aired Nov. 8, it didn't seem like she was up to the challenge.
Luckily, it doesn't seem like everything's over for the lovebirds. Kelly McCreary sat down with POPSUGAR to talk about the ins and outs of their big emotional breakthrough and what Maggie might be working through going forward. Don't give up just yet!
POPSUGAR: So, this was a really big episode for Maggie and Jackson. Can you break down Maggie's big struggle right now?
Kelly McCreary: Basically, it's really confronting for Maggie, because it's hard for him to share with her. And as good of a person that she is, and as much as she is there for people, she doesn't share with them. And it's hard to share with somebody who doesn't share with you. I loved playing the storyline, because that's what relationships are for. They're supposed to hold up a mirror to you and go like, "You're wonderful but you have a blind spot to this," or, "You have a deficit in this. And this is how you can sort of be better."
Maggie finds out that she has had a history of running away from hard conversations and for fear of being lonely, for fear of losing the relationship. And having that realization and realizing that it's getting in the way of something that she wants . . . it forces her to have to decide what she's going to do about that.
PS: Yeah. But it also kind of seems to me like a two-pronged thing. I mean, Maggie has always struck me as someone who craves love, and who wants to be loved, and who is, I think, lonely deep down. Because she grew up being a prodigy, and being the outsider, and always not really fitting in.
KM: Right. Exactly.
"You only stay in the conversation when you really love someone. I think there are some kinks to work out."
PS: I wonder if you agree that she throws herself into relationships that might not be right for her, just because she wants to be in a relationship.
KM: I think that Maggie has gone her whole life being afraid of this kind of emotional intimacy. So she's going to come out on the other side of this a different version of herself than she was before. Right? That's inevitable. It may take time. It's not going to happen overnight. But who she finds out that she is and what kind of relationship she realizes that she wants might be different than before.
PS: Are they going to survive this storm? Do they want to survive it?
KM: I think you can only have these kinds of hard conversations when you really love someone. You only stay in the conversation when you really love someone. So yeah. I think there are some kinks to work out. And yeah. I mean, I guess I've always felt like this relationship for Maggie is the one that is really going to help her learn and grow the most.
PS: For better or worse.
KM: Yeah, for better or worse. And so I think the potential for growth is so enormous that it's hard. It is hard to predict, but I think they will survive it.
PS: Can we talk a little bit more about this April reveal?
KM: Listen, the conversation is really, really intimate and emotional, and there's profound honesty from both of these characters that's hard to say and hard to hear. And ultimately, it's about Jackson grieving the end of his marriage. He's grieving it now, which is obviously too late. April is married and moved on. But that's a natural process to go through.
PS: Maggie's obviously about to deal with a great deal of relationship trauma and stuff. And Meredith is just forging back into the dating world. I mean, are they going be bouncing things off each other?
KM: Well, it's interesting. It's kind of what comes up between Jackson and Maggie: Maggie remains steadfastly there for Meredith and vice versa. And I think that it's very much just comfortable and easy. I think the first few years that they knew each other, they were just getting to know each other and inserting each other into their lives. Now they're well-integrated. Maggie's fully a member of the family.
And there's that great moment where the two of them are just passing each other in the hallway. And Maggie's going like, "Jackson disappeared, and I got a text message." And Meredith's like, "What you're feeling right now is fury." And I love that because they just have this shorthand. They have a total understanding of each other. They can see each other, read each other, and say, "Here's what you need." So that's what I love. It's snappy. It's quick. It's a shorthand and a very comfortable dynamic.
PS: So, for months now this has been talked about as a season of love. I mean, at the end of the day, is Maggie's big journey this season more about finding self-love or about being able to let herself fall into love with someone else?
KM: I think you can't have one without the other. You cannot have real love with another person without having some real love for yourself first. Maggie does not lack in self-esteem. That's for sure. And I think she does really love herself. And I think that this season is about loving herself enough to do better and step it up.
Though Not a Rule, the Queen Usually Hears Royal Baby Names First For This 1 Reason
We all know that the process of assigning names to royal babies is anything but simple (especially since they usually get three to four names). But what you might be surprised to hear is that - unlike most major royal decisions - the name doesn't necessarily need to meet the approval of the queen. Queen Elizabeth is always given the power of determining titles (even gifting Philip with a new title to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary), and though her opinion is respected when it comes to determining a new child's name, her permission isn't required.
It's understood Queen Elizabeth doesn't have to approve of royal baby names, but traditionally (and out of courtesy), she is told the name before anyone else. As royal commentator Kate Williams explained to CNN, the names chosen by royal parents must first be cleared with the queen, though ultimately the final decision rests with the parents. "Of course they have such respect for the Queen that if she says 'I really don't like that name,' they'd definitely take that into account," Williams said, but surprisingly, the queen doesn't get any final say.
Before announcing the names of any of his children, Prince William (who is close to his grandmother) waited until he and Kate Middleton had the chance to tell the queen in person first before making the names public. As with holding hands in public and closing their own car doors, royals don't rely on explicit protocol so much as implicit understanding when it comes to clearing names with the queen. Time will only tell whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle follow suit when it comes to revealing the name of their forthcoming new royal!

The Teaser Trailer For Toy Story 4 Introduces a Brand-New Character - Watch Now!
Woody and the rest of the gang are BACK!
The buzz surrounding Toy Story 4 has been building for quite some time now. As far back as March 2015, Pixar President Jim Morris described the new addition to the beloved franchise as a "love story" that will focus on the relationship between Bo Peep and Woody, but plenty of time has passed since then, and it seems the story has changed quite a bit.
In the first teaser trailer for the latest installment in the beloved animated franchise, Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the toys welcome a new addition to Bonnie's room: Forky, a spork-turned-craft-project who doesn't want to be there, played by Veep's Tony Hale. According to director Josh Cooley, "The world of Toy Story is built upon the idea that everything in the world has a purpose. A toy's purpose is to be there for its child. But what about toys that are made out of other objects? Forky is a toy that Bonnie made out of a disposable spork, so he's facing a crisis."
Well, this will be interesting! Watch the brief teaser above, and keep an eye out for the film when it hits theaters in Summer 2019.
Great Scott! Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd Had a Sweet Back to the Future Reunion
This weekend, fans of Back to the Future got a peek at the friendship that still exists between the stars of the beloved movie trilogy, years after we've actually lived through the "future" laid out in the movies (yes, we'd have to go back to their future of 2015). Christopher Lloyd, aka Doctor Emmett Brown, was among the many stars who supported Marty McFly, sorry, Michael J. Fox, at Saturday night's "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Cure Parkinson's" charity fundraiser in NYC, which benefited the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
Michael, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991 at only 29-years-old, is a fierce advocate for research into a cure for the degenerative disorder and devotes much of his time to his foundation. Many of his friends were at his side at the comedy and music event, but we couldn't help but focus on the reunion with his costar. Lloyd, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday, brought along his wife, Lisa, and the couple happily posed with Michael and his wife, Tracy Pollan. See all the sweet photos ahead.

Following in the footsteps of her elementary school principal, Dr. Joseph A. Lavizzo, Jr., Obama penned a letter to the readers of The Chicago Defender. She describes how in Dr. Lavizzo's letter, he fought not only against toxic vitriol but also against fear itself.
"As I write in my memoir, Becoming, failure is a feeling long before it is an actual result," Obama explains. "It's vulnerability that breeds with self-doubt and then is escalated, often deliberately, by fear. That's what Dr. Lavizzo and so many others in our community fought back against. It's why teachers stayed up late grading papers and summer-camp organizers dedicated themselves to kids all across South Shore. And it's why my parents invested themselves so deeply into my older brother Craig and me."
This resounding sense of hope in the face of failure is a common theme Obama strives to re-emphasize. She describes how she was shaped and raised by her Chicago neighborhood, in spite of any fear. "None of them could have known that a kid from South Shore would grow up to become First Lady of the United States - but they fought like it anyway."
While many things have changed in the neighborhood since Obama's childhood, the love from her community is still overwhelming. "That's why I can't wait to see the good that comes out of the neighborhoods all across Chicago in the years ahead," she wrote. "I can't wait to see what's next for all the young people growing up today, walking the same sidewalks and sitting in the same classrooms as I once did. There's no telling who they might become."

Why Calling It Cannabis, Not Marijuana, Is So Powerful
The following post was originally published on Miss Grass.
At the risk of patronizing you, dear reader, I implore you to never use that word again. It's "cannabis" to refer to the plant. And now, more than ever, it's important to get that much right. The bad "marijuana" juju runs deep.
For one, referring to the plant as "marijuana" is scientifically inaccurate. There's no such thing as a marijuana plant. And though "cannabis" and "marijuana" continue to be used interchangeably - even in official capacities - they are not the same thing.
The cannabis plant renders in three ways: herb, hashish, and hash oil. Marijuana refers to the herb form - the dried flowers and leaves with which you roll a joint or pack a bowl. But the more experimental you get with your cannabis consumption, the more you stray from what technically qualifies as marijuana.
But the more significant reason we don't use the word "marijuana" has nothing at all to do with science and everything to do with history, civil rights, and the case for reparations.
"Marijuana" began as a Mexican folk name for cannabis. But it was first popularized in the US by the notoriously racist publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst. You might recognize Hearst's name because it's his empire that still publishes titles like Cosmopolitan, Elle, Marie Claire, Esquire, O Magazine and many others.
At some point, Hearst saw the growing cannabis industry as a threat to his timber investments and decided to orchestrate a nationwide and categorically vicious campaign to wipe it out. His propaganda took to the pages of major American newspapers, telling hideous and wholly untrue stories about people of color committing horrific acts of violence under the influence of cannabis.
He took advantage of a predominantly held racist public opinion at the time. Ultimately, with the help of a bureaucrat named Harry Anslinger, the two men galvanized the federal prohibition of cannabis in 1937 and, eventually, its Schedule 1 classification. Then came Richard Nixon's War on Drugs, the killing of millions, the incarceration of millions more, and the families torn apart.
Throughout it all, "marijuana" became synonymous with evil. And to this day, it persists.
In 2016 alone, almost 600,000 people were arrested in the US for cannabis. That's more people than all other violent crimes combined. And the vast majority of those were for low-level possession, mostly by minorities. Despite statistics that show different races use cannabis at roughly the same rate, minorities are much more likely to be arrested and punished. In fact, between 2001 and 2010, African Americans were arrested for cannabis possession at roughly four times the rate of whites.
It is people of color who bear the burden of the War on Drugs still. The hangover from Hearst and Anslinger's campaigns continue to stymie legalization efforts. And use of the word "marijuana" only perpetuates a narrative that cannabis is a dangerous, addictive substance.
As editor-in-chief of Miss Grass, I've wondered how to tackle the racist history of cannabis. I sit on the privileged side of it all. As a white woman, the fact that I comfortably exist at the frontlines of this greenrush is not lost on me. Who am I to speak about this? And where to begin?
I can begin at the beginning. I can begin with the basics. I can read and ask questions and share what I've learned. I can be open to being told that I got it wrong and correct my mistakes. I can help to build the table and save the seats. I can embrace my civic duty to fight back against what I know to be untrue. I can stand up for the rights of those who have made this moment possible. I can shine a light on the real story, however ugly. And I can work toward a future that is both inclusive and honest.
And so can you.
If the goal is to take back the magic of this plant - and it is! - let us build this foundation of real material. And to do that, let us begin at the beginning: with the words we choose.

I Got Married on a Holiday, and I Have Zero Regrets
Wedding planning is tough. Choosing the perfect venue, dress, photographer, and more are almost always overwhelming for the bride. One giant factor can never be overlooked, either: nailing the date. Picking the right date for your big day can be just as problematic as everything else combined. We want to please our parents, Grandma, and even Aunt Mary and Uncle Bob. But we must keep in mind that that's impossible. While picking a date for our wedding, my husband and I desperately struggled with this conundrum. The venue we wanted only had one possible date that worked for us. So, after a lot of hemming and hawing, we took the plunge and decided on a holiday wedding date: the Fourth of July.
Right away, we caught the grief thrown at us for choosing a holiday for our wedding. Friends and family had the audacity to say in jest, "Way to ruin our holiday weekend!" or "I'll come only if there are fireworks." At first, I felt a little guilty. But then I simply chose not to care. It was our wedding, our big day - people should have shut their mouths. They should have simply called and said, "We are so excited to share in your day!" But no - many individuals just had to get that dig in.
I mean, how dare we ruin someone else's day off of work, for crying out loud? Honestly, I felt that it would possibly be a little upsetting that guests would have to give up their annual fireworks, but I never dreamed that our wedding bliss would cause such disgruntled behavior by those I thought I meant a lot to. But still, my husband and I didn't waver. We kept the date and scribed it in stone.
My husband and I, we just went with the notion that if we meant enough to our guests, they would want to be there. It shouldn't matter what day of the year we got married on. If they wanted to join us in our celebration, they would toss on a dress or suit and cheers with us. If not, they'd partake in their other, more festive, plans. And that's pretty much what happened. Coming from a big, fat Greek family, we had to invite the entire congregation. Of course. My husband's family invited many important people in their lives, too. But out of the large invite list, one-quarter of the guests checked "Unable to attend." Hey, it cut our bill down tremendously. That was one perk!
If someone truly loves you and your future spouse, they'll make it to your wedding despite the date on the calendar.
And when our big day came, I didn't think twice about the people who weren't there dancing with us on the dance floor. I didn't wonder who was missing. Instead, I mingled with the people who made the trip to our wedding - a wedding they attended even though it was on a holiday. Maybe there were times when our guests dreamt about being on the lake and roasting marshmallows with their friends while watching the fireworks. But when it came down to it, they decided they'd much rather attend one of the happiest days of our lives. I'm grateful for all of our guests who made it to our big day because I think the holiday magic made it that much more special.
If you're thinking about having a holiday wedding, go for it. Do not let a silly date stop you. If someone truly loves you and your future spouse, they'll make it to your wedding despite the date on the calendar. Your guests will drop their plans because they'd rather be raising their glass toasting you than anywhere else.

Victoria Beckham Made the Cutest Spice Girls Reference in Her Gracious Acceptance Speech
Only a true fashion icon could do justice to the first fashion icon award at the E! People's Choice Awards on Sunday, and Victoria Beckham more than fits the bill. She accepted the inaugural award in an effortlessly chic white suit, and she delivered an inspiring speech that included what fans really wanted: a nod to the Spice Girls.
While it's been confirmed Victoria will not be joining the Spice Girls reunion tour next year, the fashion designer hadn't spoken much about it until now. On stage at the award ceremony in Santa Monica, CA, Victoria said, "I hung up my microphone quite some time ago, and I get a little scared when I go on stage and see a mic." Expressing gratitude for the award, she said, "I always told myself, 'Dream big, and then dream even bigger.' And I wanted to show that if I can do it, anyone can do it. And what you can achieve really can be limitless." She added a reference to the Spice Girls' "Wannabe" with a smile and a peace sign, saying, "I can't help it - if you really, really want it, OK?"
Victoria continued to say, "If you really put your head down, and you focus, and you work hard, and you believe in yourself, what you can achieve is incredible. So many years ago, I started with girl power, and now that message is still as strong as ever. Now it's through the privilege of being able to empower women through my designs." We've officially got "Wannabe" stuck in our heads. Watch Victoria's full fashion icon award speech ahead.
Kim Kardashian's Dress at the People's Choice Awards Is Basically a Walking Optical Illusion
Kim Kardashian is no stranger to eye-catching outfits, and her dress at the 2018 E! People's Choice Awards was no exception. Joined by several members of her famous family, Kim attended the award show in a sheer ankle-length dress, which had several clashing horizontal and vertical lines printed on it. She accessorized the dress with on-trend sock boots. Kim even caught the attention of Nicki Minaj, who dedicated her win for female artist of the year to "Kim Kardashian's ass in that dress." Check out her striking look ahead, and then see what other stars wore on the red carpet.
Busy Philipps Styled Her Red Carpet Gown With the Coolest Pair of Doc Martens
Busy Philipps attended this year's E! People's Choice Awards wearing a gorgeous Christian Siriano number. She walked the red carpet wearing a black turtleneck dress that featured a voluminous tulle skirt. Instead of styling her gown with a pair of high heels, Busy brought us back to the '90s with a supercool pair of Dr. Martens ($145) that were covered with colorful flowers. She finished off her look with a statement necklace and a matching pink clutch. Read on to see all the angles of her outfit ahead.
Meghan Markle Opts For 3 Sophisticated Looks During Her First Remembrance Day
Meghan Markle recently participated in her very first Remembrance Day weekend, which included several appearances at solemn services. The Duchess of Sussex chose a variety of appropriate outfits for the royal events, including a navy blue suit dress that is reminiscent of her past fashion picks.
The duchess honored those who have suffered and died in war by dressing in all-black for most of the weekend. She chose a Stella McCartney coat for the Festival of Remembrance on Nov. 10, with a black sheath dress underneath. The following day, she wore another monochrome black coat for the Remembrance Day Sunday service at the Cenotaph, this time pairing the outfit with Vanessa Tugendhaft earrings. That same evening, Meghan opted for a deep-blue suit dress and a Stephen Jones beret for the Centenary of the Armistice, mimicking a look she has worn during other important royal outings. Throughout each event, Meghan was seen wearing red poppy pins, a traditional Remembrance Day tribute.
Meghan stepped out in a similar pink Prada suit dress earlier this year for Queen Elizabeth's Young Leader Awards. The dress features the same bateau neckline, belted waist, and button detailing as the duchess's Westminster Abbey ensemble. Her outfit also calls back to her Trooping the Colour look from June. This time around, Meghan paired the dress with matching Aquazurra heels and a Dior clutch. See more photos of her similar looks ahead, plus the other outfits she wore during the Remembrance Day weekend.
Victoria Beckham Hit the People's Choice Awards Looking Like an Icon, Because, Well Duh
Victoria Beckham had the E! People's Choice Awards red carpet buzzing before she even stepped foot on it. The designer's name is on everyone's lips as the recipient of Sunday's Fashion Icon award. And, while we're celebrating a decade of Victoria Beckham's namesake collection, Victoria's been an icon long before she ever launched her own brand. As a Spice Girl, Posh launched a legion of her own style fans and copycats, solidifying her status as a trendsetter.
Years later, she's still setting trends - not following them. While sequins and dramatic dresses dominate the awards circuit, Victoria played it cool in a crisp white suit, telling E! News, "It's a suit I custom made for myself that I'm putting in my next collection." So, if you're ready to follow Victoria's lead with this look, rest assured: you can shop it for yourself in good time. For now, get a look at the outfit from all angles.
Susan Kelechi Watson's PCAs Dress Is Like Emerald City, and We're Over the Rainbow
At the 2018 E! People's Choice Awards, Susan Kelechi Watson wore a sequin minidress we'd gladly wear to every holiday party. The This Is Us actress walked the red carpet in a green, black, and silver dress by Georges Chakra. In addition to its festive fabric, the dress also featured a feathery neckline, which nicely framed Susan's face. She accessorized the look with sparkly green earrings, a diamond ring, and silver heels with a gold chain ankle strap. See pictures of Susan's fun look ahead.

As celebrities arrived on the red carpet for the annual E! People's Choice Awards, we were quickly promised enough style inspiration to get us through the whole week - heck, all of the holiday season! This year, Victoria Beckham accepted the Fashion Icon Award, and she properly dressed in her own custom design for the occasion. That set the bar high for the evening's fashion to begin with. But so many more women, like Mila Kunis in her slinky LBD and Busy Philipps in her Dr. Martens boots, impressed. Ahead, click through to see who showed up in what, and rest assured: sequins, fringe, and tons of color await you.

Julia Roberts Has a Street Style Secret Weapon, and It's a Pair of Leather Pants
Julia Roberts may never be able to re-create an outfit as iconic as those she wore in Pretty Woman, and that's no bad thing. Her costumes were just that extraordinary, and she wore them with so much confidence that they still sprout up as Halloween costumes every year. But Julia's got her own thing going on when it comes to red carpet suits and bold power moves (remember when she famously gave up shoes at Cannes?).
We're here to focus on her street style, though, because the actress has somehow managed, with the help of her stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, to cater her off-duty ensembles to the city she's stationed in, brilliantly pairing leather skinnies with graphic tees and blazers in the Big Apple one day, then transitioning to effortless boho separates when she's in LA. Scroll to get a handle on Julia's flawless personal wardrobe, and keep your eyes peeled for even more appearances as she promotes her new TV series, Homecoming, and Ben Is Back, a film that's already garnering 2019 Oscars buzz.
J Lo Has Her Chanel Belt and Hermès Bag, but This 1 Other Accessory Ties Her to Her Man
Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are taking on the world together, one afternoon at a time. While the pair might be dressed for the gym half the time, when they're all dressed up, coordinating in their best, they look like a power couple to boot. J Lo recently shared some snaps of herself and ARod traveling for business, and while she was decked out in a tweed pencil skirt, Chanel belt, Hermès bag, and PVC pumps, and he in a suit and tie, it was their aviator sunglasses that set them in sync. Jennifer's came in a rose gold visor silhouette to draw attention to her hoops - striking, yes, but too much for J Lo? Hell no. The Striking Transformation of Victoria Beckham's Little Black Dress
In recent history, Victoria Beckham has been inclined to wear color. Perhaps the playful vibe of her new Target collaboration is swaying her in that direction, or maybe Victoria is just open to change. Change she has, since the days of Posh and the iconic "little Gucci dress" she slipped into in everybody's favorite movie Spice World.
But despite Victoria's more modern fashion sense, she has not forgotten her roots nor the power of a simple black sheath. These days, she might be sporting the look with her signature glove pumps instead of sky-high platform boots, but year after year - and as seasons change - Victoria's LBDs mean business. Scroll to track their transformation over the past decade.
