What 1 Mom Wants You to Know About the "Relentless Beast" That Is Type 1 Diabetes
Imagine that on top of everything else you do for your children each day, you also have to make countless decisions that mean the difference between their life or death. That's what it's like for parents of young children with type 1 diabetes - they are quite literally keeping their children alive every day and every night with the decisions they make about food choices and insulin levels.
Type 1 diabetes is a chronic condition in which the pancreas doesn't produce insulin, which is needed in order to get glucose (what your body uses for energy) from the bloodstream into the cells. In order to survive, people with type 1 diabetes require lifelong insulin therapy, including repeated daily blood sugar tests, constant monitoring of diet, and more.
One mom, whose oldest son, Ethan (pictured above with his continuous glucose monitor in his arm and the blue belt that holds his insulin pump), was diagnosed at age 2, took to Facebook to share the reality of managing the "relentless beast" of a disease in an eye-opening post in honor of Diabetes Awareness Month.
Stephanie's post highlights many of the misconceptions and misunderstandings people have about type 1 diabetes. Most striking is this: "Insulin is life support, not a cure. His devices help us, but we still have to be very vigilant and make countless decisions daily, without the help of a doctor."
"As a parent, I often cringe at the thought of being labeled as a helicopter parent, or being overprotective or overreactive," she told POPSUGAR. "If I lose focus for just a moment, it can make the difference between having a fun moment of play or my son lying unconscious on the ground. It's a very serious disease that can be deadly in the short term and cause devastating complications in the long term if not managed with vigilant care 24 hours a day."
"Insulin is life support, not a cure."
Stephanie added that "there are a lot of myths out there or assumptions people make. Oftentimes people offer a food or treatment they heard cures the disease, or think that feeding my child too much sugar caused it. There is no cure, and although diet can help manage it, nothing he ate caused this disease."
T1D affects about 1.25 million Americans, including Nick Jonas and former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler. While different, it's still often confused with type 2 diabetes, which is when the pancreas produces some insulin, but it's either not enough that the body needs or the body's cells are resistant to it. Symptoms for T1D can appear relatively suddenly and include:
- Increased thirst
- Frequent urination
- Bed-wetting in children who previously didn't wet the bed during the night
- Extreme hunger
- Unintended weight loss
- Fatigue and weakness
- Irritability and other mood changes
- Blurred vision
Now that her son is 5, Stephanie has gotten "better at rolling with the daily changes and making decisions on the fly," but it hasn't necessarily gotten easier. For Ethan, it's "all he has ever known," which makes him "very accepting of all the pokes and treatments he receives every day." He says of having T1D: "I can still have fun!" Homeschooling helps Stephanie keep Ethan's disease under control, but "inclusion is huge for a T1D family!" She added: "If you are unsure about how to help us be included in some activity or party, simply asking is a really big deal."

Why Didn't Anybody Tell Me: Deflated Breasts After Babies
There's no way to fully prepare for the weird ways in which your body changes after childbirth. Feet that grow a whole shoe size, hair that turns curly, hips that settle a little wider. And there's no way to predict which will happen to you once a baby (or two or three) has left your body - but it doesn't hurt to have a heads-up about the possibilities. Who needs to be blindsided by a linea negra that lingers for years? And no mom should have surprise stretch marks added to the long list of stressors that come with new motherhood. Which is why I'm giving you the real deal on breast changes after pregnancy. Whether you breastfeed or not, it's pretty much inevitable that your postpartum breasts won't resemble your prepregnancy ones. As in, be prepared to say goodbye to whatever fullness or perkiness you may have enjoyed before you got that positive pregnancy test.
Science confirms it: drooping and sagging get worse after each pregnancy.
If you start with a smaller bust, you might get excited when you grow a cup size (or two or three) during pregnancy, even if buying a new bra every month gets a little old. When your milk comes in, you could be even more thrilled by the prospect of cleavage if you previously had none to speak of. Or you could be cursing the fact that you can barely find a nursing bra that fits. Your breast size will go up and down much like the roller coaster that is postpartum hormones as you move from early pregnancy past childbirth. But eventually, the ride comes to a screeching halt at the very bottom of the track.
I'm sure some people don't experience such a dramatic change, but for me, my breast size tapered off dramatically in the months after I finished breastfeeding each of my babies. I thought I was in pretty good shape wearing some of my prepregnancy bras weeks after weaning, only to discover that a month or two later, I could barely fill an A cup. And cup size, whether you maintain your regular measurement or not, isn't even what you should be worried about - it's how the breasts seem to slowly deflate until you're left with little more than a flap of skin accentuated by an oddly shaped nipple. Motherhood is fun, right!?
Sure, you could be one of those lucky unicorns who experience larger-than-before breasts after babies, but my personal experience (and that of most of the moms I know) is the opposite. And science confirms it: drooping and sagging get worse after each pregnancy, which is probably why the majority of women report adverse changes in their breasts after they've had babies.
So along with all the other closet swaps you'll be making to accommodate your postpartum physique, you'll also have to find new bras. And don't be surprised if they resemble the sports bras you wore in middle school, because it's entirely possible your postpartum ladies will no longer fill any kind of cup. It's no wonder some women choose to undergo breast augmentation after baby! But whether you have surgery to spiff up your postpregnancy breasts or you learn to love what you've got left, I'm sure most women would agree that those little humans are absolutely worth whatever changes you endure.

Thanksgiving Is the F*cking Worst With a Toddler
Thanksgiving should be the perfect holiday.
It's completely acceptable to just bring a bottle of wine and a prepackaged pie or a hastily assembled hors d'oeuvres plate. There isn't a mountain of gifts to negotiate and no one expects you to put on a red suit and pretend to be a jolly old elf. Thanksgiving is, at its heart, about eating and drinking (two things I am exceptionally good at).
However, toddlers have to go and ruin all the fun, so my love for Thanksgiving has been temporarily put on hold.
Let's talk about start times. Before having a kid, the 2 o'clock meet up time was perfect because it meant I got to have a lazy morning where I would pretend to cook aka watch the Thanksgiving parade in my sweats. As a parent, I've already lived a full day by that point, and I'd really like to count on my son getting a good nap. Being expected to meet up early for dinner means that I am bringing a not-quite-well-rested toddler into a room filled with loud people. Of course, dinner can be later, but then we're running into his bedtime and gosh darnit, I do not want to deal with a grumpy child in a relative's house.
Beyond the time, there is nothing for a toddler to do. They get to play with cousins and siblings, but they're too young to watch or play football, and there isn't anything traditional to occupy their time.
Since the holiday is largely concerned with eating and drinking, notoriously picky toddlers don't make this day easy. I can be having a nice time, but then my son's mashed potatoes touch his turkey and now the whole meal is ruined. He's not even a superpicky eater, so I can only imagine what it's like for a parent whose child can't even stand the sight of most foods.
Sure, when they're older, we can plop them down at the kids' table and let them giggle to their heart's content, but now, with a 2-year-old, I can barely sit down and enjoy my meal.
I hope I'm wrong and this holiday goes smoothly and my son learns to appreciate the beauty of this holiday. I'd love for my toddler to wake up from his car nap refreshed, play well with his cousins, and happily eat a giant meal so that I can enjoy mine. If that comes true, I know what I'll be thankful for.
Is It Just Us or Are Disneyland's Christmas Decorations More Magical Than Ever This Year?!
In case you needed any further justification to start decorating for Christmas now, Disneyland has your back. The magical theme park has fully transformed from a spooky Halloween haven into a dreamy holiday wonderland, as oversize jack-o'-lanterns and cobwebs have been swapped for festive garland, ornament-adorned wreaths, and, of course, the enormous Christmas tree on Main Street. Maybe it's the fact that 2018 marks Mickey Mouse's 90th anniversary, but this year's Christmas decorations at the California theme park look a whole lot more magical than usual, wouldn't you agree? Scroll through the glorious photos from park visitors below, and you'll certainly feel inclined to book a last-minute trip to Disneyland so you can enjoy the adorable trimmings in person.
This Is the Exact Lipstick Shade Lupita Nyong'o Wore to the 2018 Governors Awards
In case you missed it, Lupita Nyong'o arrived at the 2018 Governors Gala in a striking stark-white, 1920s-style Tom Ford gown, but what made the look even more eye-catching was the electric purple lip she paired with it.
Creating Nyong'o's lip look wasn't born from just a few sweeps of a lipstick. First, a layer of Drama Liqui-Pencil ($23) - yes, eye pencil - in Ampoule (a creamy deep purple shade) was drawn across the actress's lips as a base. Then, Rouge in Love Lipcolor ($29) in Violette Coquette (a satin plum with blue tones) was sweeped above it, topped with a L'Absolu Lacquer Gloss ($26) in Positive Energy (an electric purple gloss).
It seems simple enough, but if you wanted to take the three-step process down to a one-stepper, we've pulled together some of the most dazzling purple lipsticks to re-create the look.

The Results Are In: These Are the Best Beauty Brands of 2018, According to Editors
You know how archeologists can identify up to 700 species of dinosaur just by looking at some fossils? Beauty editors have a similar skill set. . . except our medium is products. Within a year's time, we've all but seen, smelled, and swiped enough lipstick, face cream, and fragrance rollerballs to fill up the American Museum of Natural History, which means we can easily discern a standout brand from the rest - the Tyrannosaurus of the group, if you will.
Still, the cosmetics industry saw some big innovations throughout 2018, so we've asked editors from top publications to share the best beauty companies that were actually worth the roar this year. So all your second-guessing? Ancient history.

I Tried the Facial Device Victoria's Secret Angels Use, and My Skin Is Glowier Than Ever
If there is one thing I learned from my mom, it's the importance of skin care. I've never gone to bed without taking my makeup off; I'm always trying out new masks, getting facials, and using technology in my skin's favor. This year after attending the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, I couldn't stop thinking about how healthy the Angels' skin looked. So I decided to find out the secret behind their glow - and it was the GLOPulse ($165).
The futuristic-looking device was created by skincare expert Georgia Louise - who has worked with several VS Angels as well as Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lawrence, and Emma Stone - and is equipped with two electrode plates that rest on the cheeks that promise to boost blood circulation and soften the appearance of wrinkles without injections.
"It uses galvanic current, which pulses though the dermis, stimulating the full face in seconds, whereas a regular massage only stimulates one part of the face, and a full massage takes minutes," Louise told POPSUGAR, adding that the current also makes it easy for the ingredients of a product to penetrate "100 times deeper into the skin than a regular sheet mask."

This is What a Top Beauty Influencer Gifts For the Holidays - and We Want It All
Nicole Guerriero has gift-giving down to a science. For good reason, too: eight years of posting hair and makeup reviews and tutorials will garner some product-picking skills.
"I know way more about beauty products than I did before I started making YouTube videos," Guerriero told POPSUGAR. "I have a pretty good sense of what [my friends and family] are going to like since I know so much about products. When I'm gifting, I'll generally know what that person is into - whether it's makeup, hair, tech - and I'll always try to give them a set. That way, I know that I'm not giving them something they won't like."

This Is Exactly What Happens When You Forget to Take Your Makeup Off at Night
Whether it's a regular occurrence or once in a blue moon, we've all been guilty of forgetting to remove our makeup before going to bed at some point or another, and it could be doing harm to your skin in the long term.
If you tend to skip that important step at night, there are a few things you should know. First, the obvious: "Makeup has a tendency to clog up pores," said Dr. Tatiana Lapa, dermatologist and medical director of the Dr. Tatiana Aesthetic Clinic, adding that washing your face at the end of the day gives you the opportunity to "clear the debris sitting within them." Then, the less obvious: "Clogging these pores with oily material can cause them to enlarge, become inflamed, and potentially scar," she said. This happens because makeup can prevent the normal function of the skin. "It can block sebaceous glands and cause a buildup of excess sebum, which is inflammatory for the skin. It's important to understand that oil does not mean moisture or hydration for the skin. In fact, oil irritates the skin and increases the risk of other skin problems like acne, rosacea, and pigmentation. There is a misconception that oily skin ages better, which simply is not true."
But enlarged pores won't be your only concern. "Makeup forms an oily layer on the skin that tends to absorb pollution and bacteria," Dr. Lapa said. "Wearing your makeup at night means that your skin is smothered in this grimy layer. Your skin cells will not shed in the normal way, and the oil glands may begin to malfunction. This means that your skin will feel greasy, unhealthy, and dull." As a result, you may experience more frequent breakouts, poor skin texture, and sensitivity.
If it's glowing, blemish-free skin you're after, a good skincare routine should be your priority, and now might be the time to hop on that double-cleansing bandwagon.

Thinking About Giving a Fragrance as a Gift For the Holidays? Read This First
Fragrance, like romantic partners or the direction in which you place toilet paper onto the holder, is based solely on personal preference - and can be just as divisive should you make the wrong decision. That's why giving a perfume as a gift is especially tricky terrain.
Still, it can be done: "Fragrance makes a great last-minute gift, and, often, stores will have pre-wrapped options for you," Linda G. Levy, the president of The Fragrance Foundation, told POPSUGAR. "It also allows you to give a thoughtful, personal present without worrying about size or if they already have one; everyone can add another fragrance to their collection."
The key to getting it right is using a few good context clues. Put down the scent strip and follow along.

From fancy face mask sets to jade rollers galore, ahead we've compiled a comprehensive guide to every skincare product an obsessive would want.
Happy shopping, ya filthy animal.

Lucy Hale Just Gave Us a Lesson in Pulling Off Blond Hair For the Holidays
Lucy Hale should change her name to professional hair switcher-upper, because it's a frequent occurrence, and guess what? It gets better every single time.
Hale posted a boomerang on her Instagram on Sunday of a blonder, choppier style with the caption "because I couldn't end the year without one more hair change." (Although, we wouldn't be surprised to see her changing it up at least once more before the new year.) This year alone, she's temporarily dyed it pink, gotten blond bangs, cut her lob even shorter, and even went full-on Fall vibes with brond.
Celebrity hairstylist Kristin Ess is behind Hale's ever-changing style, and she knows just how to create those enviable blond waves. Ess captioned her post, "That that don't kill you, can only make you blonder. 💇 Chop chop y'all." Ahead, get a look at Hale's new hair, plus some of her other best styles from the year.
Dear Grey's Anatomy, Stop Trying to Make Meredith and DeLuca Happen
Suffice to say, Grey's Anatomy dropped jaws with its intense midseason finale cliffhanger in season 15, aka the "season of love." On top of all the heartbreaking and juicy reveals, there's DeLuca, who lets Meredith know his true feelings for her - that he thinks she's amazing and that there's something between them. Of course, the two get stuck in a dark elevator together right after this when a storm kills the power at the hospital. While our intrepid heroine has been seeing a love doctor, the triangle between her, DeLuca, and Link has been setting in place like gel on hair. But despite MerLuca becoming an increasingly popular item, I have to admit that I'm not entirely sold on them . . . yet.
Maybe I have a pipe dream that Dr. Marsh will come back. Maybe I secretly have an attachment to Dr. Lincoln's actor Chris Carmack, who I'll forever lovingly associate with The O.C. (Plus we've seen a really sweet side to Link!) Mostly, I'm not boarding the MerLuca ship because DeLuca hasn't quite proven himself as a contender. Sure, his impromptu confession to Meredith is very "pick me, choose me, love me," and Giacomo Gianniotti isn't bad on the eyes, either. Plus, Meredith has even had super steamy dreams about the dude. But, even if they do get together, I'm not sure if they can last on chemistry alone.
Here's how it all starts: Meredith and DeLuca share their first sort-of romantic encounter when he drunkenly plants a smooch on her at Alex's wedding after she gives him a pep talk about heartbreak. If you recall, not too long before their kiss, Andrew festers at Meredith's house after eating one too many edibles and hallucinating about his ex-girlfriend Sam. He plays the guitar and refuses to shower until Meredith intervenes and brings in Carina. Emotionally, they just don't feel equally yoked at this point, maybe since we've just seen Mer go through so much trauma in her life. She obviously cares for him, but almost in a big sister or mentor type of way.
Then, there's the fact that DeLuca doesn't handle dating attendings well. At the beginning of season 12, he and Maggie were a hot item that eventually fizzled out when he felt uncomfortable with people seeing him date his boss. Of course, the showrunners are playing with Meredith and DeLuca's dynamic as attending and resident, throwing back to Mer's earlier relationship with Derek. It's worth mentioning that DeLuca steps into the scene right after Derek dies in season eleven, and it's like we're coming full circle. In a way, their relationship is almost a perfect inverse of Meredith's great love with McDreamy. Andrew is very similar to Derek - confident and hot as hell. It's his situation that's different.
Right now, Meredith and DeLuca's relationship feels lust-based because we haven't gotten to see a deeper side to DeLuca yet. But maybe that's just what this elevator situation will allow us to see - a deeper, more vulnerable side to him that'll speak to our drama-loving hearts. Maybe they'll talk about something meaningful and revealing. Maybe it'll just be awkward as they rush to find ways to get help. Maybe they'll do everything but hook up. After all, people can get very hot and bothered in Grey Sloan's elevators! We'll just have to wait and see when Grey's returns next year.
12 Hot Ariana Grande Collabs That Will Make You Say, "We Can Just Dance to This"
Ariana Grande just keeps dropping music on the world that gets better and better. Though some of her biggest hits have been born out of hard times, we're still loving the music nonetheless. We can't stop listening to "Thank U, Next" at the moment, but can we also talk about how many epic bangers she's collaborated on?
Grande's got so many hot collaborations, and it was hard to narrow it down to our 12 favorites, but we did it. There are several with Nicki Minaj, because let's be real, that duo is practically flawless. But there are also some songs on here that you might have forgotten even existed, or never heard at all! Scroll through to hear them all.
How to Avoid Gaining Weight Over the Holidays, According to These Dietitians
Even if you've been staying on track with your healthy eating goals all year, it's a slippery slope after Halloween: noshing on leftover Halloween candy, Thanksgiving dinner followed by pumpkin pie, not to mention all the holiday parties and cookie swaps that fill December. With chunky sweaters, leggings, and thick layers filling your wardrobe in the Winter, it's no wonder why people tend to gain weight over the holidays.
But you don't have to pack on the pounds over the holiday season. We tapped registered dietitians who reveal how to still enjoy the holidays without gaining weight and undoing all the progress you made the rest of the year. Here's how to enjoy your pumpkin pie and gingerbread cookies without going overboard.
You'd Never Guess That These Festive, Crowd-Pleasing Cocktails Are Low-Carb
It can be tricky to navigate the holidays on a low-carb plan like the ketogenic diet. Every party is packed with tempting appetizers and sugary cocktails, just begging you to veer off path. But while you may think alcohol is off-limits, there are plenty of liquors and wines - and even some beers - that are safe to drink in moderation without worrying that you'll sabotage your diet. To avoid the sugary extras, try mixing your own cocktails this season. We've rounded up five recipes ranging from a wintry Moscow mule to a delicious, dairy-free eggnog, so you can truly eat, drink, and be merry.

8 Healthy New Year's Resolutions That Have Nothing to Do With Losing Weight
When it comes to setting up goals for a new year, weight loss is often the most common resolution, but in 2019, why not stop being so narrowly focused on the pounds on the scale and instead concentrate on being happy and well? Losing weight and fat certainly has its benefits, but health is not just about that - there are other factors in your life that can bring joy and lead to a healthy mental and physical state (and, yes, even unexpectedly weight loss).
This coming year, look to other healthy milestones that will help you feel strong and balanced in your life, no scale needed.

5 Reasons Working Out at Night Will Change Your Life
I don't like to work out in the morning. I'm not a morning person. The aroma of coffee isn't something that wakes me with a smile. The light shining through the blinds at the crack of dawn is something I avoid as much as possible. The heaviest thing I want to be lifting in the morning before work is my pillow. As I said, I'm not a morning person. But wait, we're supposed to work out in the morning, right? Actually, no. You don't have to. In fact, there are a bunch of reasons you should train at night. I do and it changed my life from the first time I tried it.
First things first: Let's put the elephant in the room to bed. You won't be kept awake by training in the evening. That's an old lie that morning people cooked up with their elaborate breakfasts while we were hitting the snooze button and getting a well-deserved rest. In fact, a National Sleep Foundation study found that there was no difference in the quality of sleep for those who exercised vigorously in the evening.

Exactly What to Eat For a Week to Lose Weight, the Healthy Way
It can be hard to know where to begin when you've decided you want to shed some weight. To put it simply, you probably already know you should eat what you know to be healthy foods, which is totally true, but there are many other things to consider when preparing yourself for a diet that will help you lose weight.
A weight-loss plan is very personal to you, so while we've put together an example of a week of meals that help you lose some pounds, it should serve as inspiration. Your first step should be to figure out what works for you and your body, and the best way to do that is to speak with a nutritionist, who can take a look at your current weight and lifestyle and craft a plan that is best suited for your goals.
What's important to remember if you're starting a new diet is to make sure you're eating enough food every day so that you're losing weight at a healthy rate. Keep reading for seven days' worth of healthy meals, and if you're on a special diet like vegan or WW, we've got meal plans for you as well.
Buh-Bye, Extra Pounds - This Is the Ultimate Workout For Weight Loss
To get the best results, you need to use the best exercises. We've got your top eight weight-loss moves, which you can add to your current workouts or put together for a full-fledged workout. Each exercise is a compound and dynamic movement so you have no doubt you're going to maximize the amount of calories burned. Since you'll be working at a higher intensity, you'll also see a short-term boost in your metabolism for up to 48 hours. Burning extra calories even when you're in your pajamas during a late-night TV binge is ideal for quick and sustainable weight loss. You only need space and a pair of light dumbbells for these moves.
These exercises for weight loss were curated by Youfit Health Club's national director of fitness, Raphael Konforti. Konforti recommends performing these moves circuit style (doing one exercise after another) for three to five rounds, resting only as needed throughout.
The magic of a circuit like this one is that you can do it whenever you're in the mood to get your sweat on. Our best advice is to do at least three rounds every day. You can do them in succession or split them up throughout the day if that makes it more convenient for you. You can also do more than five rounds every day, but be sure to get plenty of rest and hydration! Pair this circuit with a high-quality and healthy diet, and you'll be well on your way.

By simply plugging your ingredients into its website or app to figure out the SmartPoints, you can easily manage your health journey no matter what you want to eat, as long as you're staying in your SmartPoints range. If you follow a vegan diet and need some ideas to get you started on your WW path, keep reading for 16 recipes that you can use throughout your day.
Trader Joe's Released Cauliflower Latkes Just in Time For Hanukkah, and We're Drooling
Trader Joe's has a knack for taking cauliflower and transforming it into something delicious: pizza crust, gnocchi, rice, and even tempura. But the beloved grocery store upped its cauli game just in time for Hanukkah and rolled out cauliflower pancakes in the frozen section.
Instead of traditional fried potato pancakes, these latkes are made with cauliflower, Parmesan cheese, and leeks, with a mix of brown rice flour, potato starch, rice flour, and egg white powder. They are lightly fried in sunflower oil to make them crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, and they would be delicious served with applesauce or sour cream or eaten like a hash brown and topped with ketchup. Plus, they're gluten-free!
Although potato is subbed out for cauliflower, these aren't exactly low-carb: each two-pancake serving has 170 calories, seven grams of fat, 21 grams of carbs, two grams of fiber, two grams of sugar, and seven grams of protein. But if you're a cauliflower fan looking for a delicious (and slightly healthier) spin on the holiday favorite, grab a box of these cauliflower pancakes while they're still in season. Each box has six pancakes and retails for $4.
This Is How Stacy Ate 6 Meals a Day, Lost 20 Pounds, and Earned a 6-Pack
After Stacy Moon had her first child, her weight fell off pretty quickly from long-distance running and "living off chicken and broccoli." But it became much harder to lose the postpartum weight after her second child in 2015. After trying many different methods, Stacy finally found Renaissance Periodization, and the rest is history. Read below to hear her full weight-loss story.
In 2016, Stacy started her weight-loss journey with Renaissance Periodization (RP). "I was going to CrossFit five days a week and running three to four days a week and still not getting the aesthetic or performance results that I wanted," she told POPSUGAR. "I knew it had to be my nutrition. I was eating Whole30 style, which was 'healthy,' and I didn't know what else to do. I really didn't want to go back to chicken and broccoli. That's when I found RP."
So far, Stacy has lost about 21 pounds. It all started when she did a one-on-one "fat-loss phase" with an RP coach. "After that, I transitioned to using [RP] templates and did a maintenance phase, another fat-loss phase, a muscle-gain phase, and a long maintenance," Stacy explained.
"RP's templates are specific about how much to eat and when, but you're free to eat foods you like that fit the requirements," Stacy shared. "So my diet is very structured but not super strict."
She eats six meals a day, starting with a protein shake and ending with "protein and peanut butter before bed." She said, "The other four meals are pretty evenly spaced throughout the day and consist of protein, carbs, and veggies. I am such a creature of habit, so I eat a lot of the same things. It makes it easy to stick to my plan and takes all of the thought and effort out of making meals."
These are some of the foods Stacy enjoys on a regular basis: chicken, beef, ground turkey, egg whites, oatmeal, rice, bell peppers, green beans, cauliflower, and cabbage. "All of my meals taste good to me, which makes it easy to keep eating the same things," Stacy told POPSUGAR.
As for her workouts, Stacy continued to do CrossFit five to six days a week and she also used "RP's Female Physique Templates four days a week." The templates are very user-friendly, according to Stacy, and "they run 19 weeks and can be reprogrammed for a new cycle." She saw "huge physique changes" after doing a few cycles of the physique template.
Weight loss and earning ripped abs weren't Stacy's only accomplishments. "Nonscale victories in the gym are my favorite because I really do love training," she said. "I've improved in every area, especially gymnastics movements. Apparently, pull-ups are easier when you weigh less! Strict muscle-ups and bench pressing [more than my bodyweight] are some of the memorable victories."
"Another bonus is not having a muffin top," Stacy shared. "All of my clothes fit better and I feel amazing eating this way. I have more strength and energy, and my body feels healthy and efficient. It's a great feeling to know you're fueling your body properly and to physically feel the difference."
For anyone looking for some motivation, Stacy said, "I think the best advice is to not be in a hurry because small changes are much more sustainable and add up to huge changes over time. One day at a time really is the way to accomplish anything. Set a goal and when it gets hard, remember why you want it."
Stacy admits that she's not always motivated. "I don't think anyone is," she said. "I am very determined. I love the saying, 'Nothing worth having comes easy.' Seriously, if having abs was easy, everyone would have them. I think if you really want something, it's worth the hard work and powering through the times when you're not motivated. Setting goals and sticking to a plan takes the place of motivation for me."
"Everyone's journey is going to look different, so don't compare yourself to others," Stacy recommended. "Also, don't freak out about the scale. I've learned so much in the last couple of years, and a hard lesson to remember is that the scale is not the only gauge of progress. Take pictures and/or measurements and keep track of all the improvements you're making in the rest of your life. A positive outlook can make a huge difference in your success."
I Drank Celery Juice For a Week, and Here's What Happened
If you're a health-conscious individual who's been on Instagram lately, you've probably seen or heard of someone drinking celery juice. It's everywhere: influencers and holistic health gurus alike are all toting their green juices like it's 2011, and I was curious as to why. For a little bit of context, the celery juice trend was popularized by a man named Anthony William, also known as the Medical Medium. He is not a doctor, but an author of four books including Medical Medium: Secrets Behind Chronic and Mystery Illness and How to Finally Heal, and a holistic health practitioner who simply raves about how celery juice is a magical cure-all. Intrigued? I was too.
If you're going to drink celery juice, it needs to be first thing in the morning, and it needs to be juiced. I haven't been a big fan of juicing since it takes all the fiber and much of the nutrients out of the produce you're consuming, but celery is different. According to Anthony, in removing the fiber and putting celery through a juicer, you're getting access to something called cluster salts, which help flush toxins from the liver, hence why it needs to be consumed on an empty stomach. The benefits of celery juice are reportedly astounding, and include lowering blood pressure and reducing inflammation. With the way everyone raves about it, I was ready to be a brand new person by week's end. And the short version is: I do feel different. These are the three key takeaways I've learned in my week on celery juice.
Firstly, I have SO. MUCH. ENERGY! I have Hashimoto's, an autoimmune thyroid disease, and one of the side effects is that I get tired easily. I spend a lot of time exhausted, but I have to say, I've never had more energy than this past week. Those classic walls I hit three to four times a day are only coming around once, and I am so much more productive, it's crazy. I'm a skeptic, but it's literally the only thing I've changed in my routine, and I feel amazing. I also get bloated easily, and feel like I go to bed and wake up as two different people. Well, since I've been drinking celery juice, my bloating has subsided significantly. Yay! And lastly, I'm not breaking out. My skin is GLOWING. And during dry, chilly months, that's a win.
Here's the deal: I tried this trend ready to call BS. How could juice really be this magical? But after a week, I'm convinced. My increased energy, decreased pimples, and flatter stomach are all I need to say, "I'm hopping on the bandwagon!" Want to know what I'm asking for this holiday season? A juicer.
